Around the Grounds – Round 14

Published by Barron Von Crow on

Hello Community and welcome to another edition of Around the Grounds. Well the bye rounds are finally over and it feels like the carnage is only just starting as we head into the final stretch before finals. Rucks in particular are hitting hard, with Max Gawn getting hurt last week, we can also add injuries to Tim English and popular trade in Brynn Teakle, as well as injury and suspension to Braydon Preuss and just a plain old suspension to Peter Ladhams. That’s to go along with Zak Butters hurting his knee and Jeremy McGovern going out with a rib injury., Sam Durdin with a knee injury, Will Powell suffering a horrific broken leg, Ryan Angwin fracturing his tibia in his first AFL hitout, it was not a fun round for a lot of footballers.

They say every cloud has a silver lining, but the people who say that probably haven’t spent 3 trades on ruckmen in the last 6 weeks and looking at having to spend a 4th, so I’m probably just going to ignore them for now. But we’ll just have to keep on pushing on, so we’ll do the usual here, review what happened in Round 14 and then go look at the trade winds to see how we navigate Round 15 and onwards. So let’s go!

Rucks the obvious heavy hitters trade wise, with Preuss and Gawn taking up 21% of all trades out, and Witts, Jackson, and Darcy accounting for almost 13% of players traded in. It’s understandable so many are going to Jackson, especially if you have Preuss and not the cash to upgrade to a Witts or Darcy. A few also trading in Tim English, but he’ll be missing this week in concussion protocols, so I expect those trades will probably get reversed by Thursday evening. Clarke, Parnell and D’Ambrossio look like the sensible downgrade options this week, with Bont and Parker also looking like popular trade in options for the forward line.

And that’ll be it for me this week, as usual you can reach me on the Twitter @BarronVonCrow or you can leave a question/comment in the section below. See you all next week!
