Around the Grounds – Round 10

Published by Barron Von Crow on

Hello community and welcome to another week of Around the Grounds. We’re reaching the halfway point of the 2022 AFL season, which means we’re getting super close to the bye rounds starting, with the first scheduled in Round 12. That means this week may be one of your last opportunities to prepare for the fun that they bring and to make sure you have ample coverage for each round so you don’t have to trade just to field a team. We’ve got plenty to cover this week, including all the Round 10 results from the AFL, VFL, SANFL and WAFL action, as well as the trade goings on around the Supercoach lands. So let’s get into it!

Victoria

Collingwood

The poor conditions and being on the road wasn’t enough to stop Collingwood, who had a 80-44 win over Fremantle. Jack Ginnivan (FWD, $336,000, BE 88) had 12 disposals, 2 marks, 3 tackles and 2 goals for 66 SCPoints, Beau McCreery (FWD, $224,300, BE 77) had 12 disposals, 3 tackles and 4 clangers for his 42 SCPoints, Nathan Murphy (MID, $243,300, BE 57) scored 41 SCPoints from 7 disposals, 7 1%ers and 3 clangers, Oliver Henry (FWD, $263,200, BE 26) finished with 13 disposals, 5 marks and 4 goals for 83 SCPoints and Nick Daicos (DEF/MID, $376,600, BE 88) had 23 disposals, 4 marks, 3 clearances and 65 SCPoints. He hasn’t scored above 88 SCPoints since Round 4, so may be on the hook for his 3rd price decrease in a row, though, the previous two price losses was a combined $5,000.

Collingwood had the bye in Round 9 of the VFL season.

Carlton

Carlton managed to hold off a second half surge from Sydney to win 102-87 on Friday Night. Jack Carroll (MID, $183,000, BE 42) had 10 disposals, 7 marks and 38 SCPoints, Corey Durdin (FWD, $269,900, BE 9) hit the scoreboard with 2.1 with 12 disposals, 2 marks and 3 tackles and 74 SCPoints and Jesse Motlop (FWD, $117,300, BE -5) had 12 disposals, 2 marks, 3 tackles and kicked 1.3 for 40 SCPoints.

Neither side in this one kicked particularly straight in Carltons VFL match up with Sandringham and it led to a 69-65 loss for the Blues. Tom Williamson (DEF, $244,000) had 26 disposals, 5 marks and a goal, Jordan Boyd (DEF, $161,200) had 24 disposals, 3 marks, 3 tackles and a goal and Brodie Kemp (DEF, $156,80) finished with 19 disposals, 7 marks and 3 tackles.

Essendon

Another loss for the Bombers, this time going down to Richmond 80-48. Tex Wanganeen (FWD, $102,400, BE 38) had just 8% ToG for 1 disposals and 2 SCPoints, Nick Bryan (RUC, $186,600, BE 17) had 10 disposals, 4 tackles and 6 hitouts with 5 clangers for 59 SCPoints, Zach Reid (DEF, $224,500, BE 2) finished with 12 disposals, 3 marks and 3 tackles for 64 SCPoints and Ben Hobbs (MID, $266,800, BE 9) continued his solid scoring and had 10 disposals, 2 marks, 3 tackles and 2 goals for 73 SCPoints and Nic Martin (FWD, $379,300, BE 116) had 19 (17 uncontested) disposals, 4 marks and 49 SCPoints, He’s got a BIG BE this week and is currently running on a 3 round average of 65.3 SCPoints.

Essendon remain winless in the VFL after a 79-46 loss to Richmond. Cody Brand (DEF, $123,900) had 24 disposals, 9 marks and 2 tackles, Brayden Ham (MID/FWD, $236,900) had 20 disposals, 7 marks, 3 tackles and a goal, Cian McBride (RUC/FWD, $123,900) had 20 disposals, 11 marks and 4 tackles with 9 hitouts and Garrett McDonagh (DEF, $117,300) had 20 ddisposals, 4 marks, 3 tackles and a goal.

Geelong

Not the most accurate goal kicking by Geelong, but their 11.16 was enough to beat Port Adealide 82-47. Sam De Koning (DEF/FWD, $334,300, BE 43) had 16 disposals and 5 marks for 85 SCPoints while Tyson Stengle (FWD, $396,500, BE 133) had 12 disposals, 2 marks and 3 goals for 65 SCPoints. Francis Evans (FWD, $131,900, BE 9) had 11 disposals, 3 marks and 2 tackles for 34 SCPoints and Cooper Stephens (MID, $123,900, BE -57) had 16 disposals, 5 marks and 6 inside 50’s for 64 SCPoints.

Geelong had a win in their Round 9 VFL match, defeating the Northern Bullants 98-85. Oliver Dempsey (FWD, $102,400) had 24 disposals, 2 marks, 2 tackles and 2 goals (should have gotten 22 disposals then I could have tchew for twenty-chew’d it like the 12th Man) and Shannon Neale (FWD, $123,900) kicked 5 goals with 9 disposals, 4 marks and 4 hitouts.

Hawthorn

Hawthorn had a great win on the weekend, knocking off a top 4 side in Brisbane 117-112. Sam Butler (MID/FWD, $117,300, BE 2) had 9 disposals, 1 mark, 2 tackles and 2 goals for 49 SCPoints, Denver Grainger-Barras (DEF, $231,600, BE 25) had 11 disposals, 2 marks, 4 tackles and 4 rebound 50’s for 78 SCPoints and Max Lynch (RUC, $308,400, BE 64) finished with 9 disposals, 21 hitouts and a goal for 67 SCPoints.

The Box Hill Hawks had the bye in the VFL.

Melbourne

Melbourne ran away with this game in the 2nd half with a 100-53 win over North Melbourne. Toby Bedford (FWD, $151,600, BE 0) had 7 disposals, 2 marks, 3 tackles and a goal for 37 SCPoints.

Casey had the bye in the VFL.

North Melbourne

North Melbourne kept up with the Dees for a half but ran out of steam in the 2nd and ended up with a 100-53 loss to Melbourne. Kayne Turner (DEF/FWD, $239,300, BE 14) had 17 disposals, 7 marks and 5 tackles with 4 rebound 50’s for 83 SCPoints. Paul Curtis (FWD, $175,900, BE 31) had 6 disposals and 2 marks for 33 SCPoints, Kyron Hayden (DEF, $199,600, BE 15) had 11 disposals, 4 marks and 4 rebound 50’s for 57 SCPoints and Flynn Perez (DEF, $213,400, BE 32) had 16 disposals, 4 marks and 2 tackles for 64 SCPoints. Curtis Taylor (MID/FWD, $237,900, BE 17) had 12 disposals and 6 marks for 46 SCPoints, Tristian Xerri (RUC/FWD, $363,100, BE 75)) returned to the side and had 2 disposals and 15 hitouts for 71 SCPoints and Jason Horne-Francis (MID, $315,500, BE 56) had 17 disposals, 4 marks, 3 tackles and a goal with 6 clangers for 64 SCPoints.

No VFL action for North Melbourne last week due to the bye.

Richmond

Richmond didn’t have much trouble with Essendon after the 1st quarter and had a 80-48 win over the Bombers. Maurice Rioli (MID/FWD, $188,700, BE 37) provided a better score this week with 10 disposals, 2 marks, 5 tackles and 2 goals for 67 SCPoints. His BE will look to drop once that poor score in Round 9 rolls out of his average, so nothing to panic about here. Jake Aarts (MID/FWD, $179,900, BE 83) was the sub and had 4 disposals and 2 tackles for 18 SCPoints and Josh Gibcus (DEF, $332,600, BE 70) had 12 disposals, 3 marks and 3 tackles for 60 SCPoints.

Richmond didn’t have much trouble in the VFL either, with a 79-46 win over Essendon. Hugo Ralphsmith (MID/FWD, $275,900) had a game high 28 disposals with 4 marks, Thomson Dow (MID/FWD, $283,300) had 23 disposals and 4 marks and Noah Cumberland (MID/FWD, $123,900) kicked 3.3 with 16 disposals and 6 marks.

St Kilda

A good win on the road for St. Kilda, taking care of Adelaide in Adelaide with a 90-69 win. Marcus Windhager (MID/FWD, $200,400, BE -5) had 15 disposals, 3 marks and 5 clangers for 60 SCPoints, Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera (DEF/FWD, $248,200, BE 74) had 11 disposals, 5 marks, 2 tackles and 4 clangers for 37 SCPoints and Ben Long (DEF/FWD, $310,000, BE 84) had 4 disposals and 3 clangers for 22 SCPoints.

St Kilda find themselves 5th on the AFL ladder and the Sandringham Zebras find themselves in the same position in the VFL after their 69-65 win over Carlton. Mitch Owens (MID, $117,300) had 24 disposals, 3 marks, 2 tackles and 2 goals, Leo Connolly (DEF, $228,600) had 18 disposals and 6 marks and Matthew Allison (DEF, $123,900) kicked 2 goals with 11 disposals, 8 marks and 3 tackles.

Western Bulldogs

The Bulldogs were too strong for the Suns at Mars Stadium with a 106-87 win. Luke Cleary (DEF, $117,300, BE -67) had 16 disposals, 5 marks and 75 SCPoints. Robbie McComb (MID, $227,100, BE 15) had 16 disposals and 2 goals for 78 SCPoints, Rhylee West (FWD, $187,700, BE -41) had 15 disposals and 4 tackles for 79 SCPoints, Jordon Sweet (RUC, $255,200, BE -24) had 4 disposals, 6 tackles and 27 hitouts for 76 SCPoints and Buku Khamis (DEF, $147,000, BE 9) had 5 disposals, 2 marks and 1 tackle for 12 SCPoints.

Over in the VFL, Footscray had a 97-72 loss to the Gold Coast. Charlie Parker (MID/FWD, $102,400) had 21 disposals, 3 marks and a goal and Cody Raak (DEF, $102,400) had 16 disposals, 6 marks and 1 tackle.

South Australia

Adelaide

Adelaide again was hurt by inaccurate goal kicking, booting 9.15 on their way to a 90-69 loss to St. Kilda. Jake Soligo (MID, $168,800, BE -58) had a great game with 19 disposals, 2 marks, 3 tackles and a goal for 96 SCPoints. He’s still at a reasonable price and while I don’t expect that level of scoring to continue he’s shown he has a decent enough role to the point he should be able to generate some cash if you did trade him in. Joshua Rachele (MID/FWD, $243,100, BE 56) had 11 disposals, 1 tackle and 1 goal for 49 SCPoints. He was subbed out of the game with a hip injury and looks set for a rest this week, so probably time to trade him if you still have him. Will Hamill (DEF, $253,000, BE 32) had 16 disposals, 2 marks and 70 SCPoints, Kieran Strachan (RUC, $273,500, BE 25) had 17 disposals, 4 marks, 5 tackles, 2 behinds and 17 hitouts for 84 SCPoints, though faces stiff competition to keep his spot after ROB’s big game in the SANFL. Mitchell Hinge (DEF, $273,900, BE 48) had 11 disposals, 44 marks and 58 SCPoints, Jackson Hately (MID, $295,100, BE -24) finished with 18 disposals, 2 marks, 4 clearances and 8 tackles for 88 SCPoints, though just played 63% ToG and Sam Berry (FWD, $369,400 BE 57) had 17 disposals, 4 marks and 9 tackles for 79 SCPoints and is currently ranked 1st in the AFL for tackles per game.

In the SANFL, Adelaide remained on-top of the ladder after their 106-73 win over Woodville-West Torrens. Luke Pedlar (MID/FWD, $123,900) had 21 disposals, 4 marks, 7 tackles and 3 clearances, Lachlan Gollant (FWD, $183,800) had 18 disposals, 4 marks, 4 tackles and a goal and Tariek Newchurch (FWD, $123,900) had 11 disposals, 3 marks, 3 tackles and kicked 2.1.

Port Adelaide

Port Adelaide struggled in the 2nd half with just 2 goals, which lead to a 82-47 loss to Geelong at GMHBA stadium. Sam Hayes (RUC, $304,400, BE 52) had 10 disposals, 2 marks, 5 clearances and 35 hitouts for 72 SCPoints.

Port had their 2nd win of the SANFL season after defeating West Adelaide 105-81. Taj Schofield (MID/FWD, $123,900) had 31 disposals, 3 marks, 6 clearances and a goal, Martin Frederick (DEF, $224,500) had 30 disposals, 5 marks and a goal, Jackson Mead (MID/FWD, $203,300) had 28 disposals, 4 marks, 6 tackles, 5 clearances and a goal and Dylan Williams (FWD, $123,900) kicked 4.3 with 10 disposals and 7 marks.

Western Australia

Fremantle

Fremantle had trouble scoring in the wet with 3 goals in as many quarters and it led to a 80-44 loss to Collingwood. Bailey Banfield (FWD, $240,300, BE 66) had 8 disposals and 2 marks for 36 SCPoints.

The Peel Thunder had their Round 5 WAFL match against South Fremantle which ended with a 89-63 loss. Connor Blakely (MID, $239,000) had 26 disposals, 5 marks and 3 tackles, Mitch Crowden (FWD, $257,300) had 25 disposals, 6 marks and 9 tackles and Sam Sturt (FWD, $201,400) kicked 3 goals with 9 disposals while Jye Amiss (FWD, $175,800) added 2.2 with 7 disposals.

West Coast

West Coast were no match for GWS and lost 138-86. Brady Hough (MID, $149,500, BE 36) played just 7% ToG and had 1 disposals and 1 mark for 3 SCPoints. Isiah Winder (MID/FWD, $153,700, BE -9) had 10 disposals, 1 mark, 3 tackles and kicked 3 goals 77 SCPoints, Greg Clark (MID, $185,000, BE -8) had 14 disposals, 4 marks, 2 tackles and a goal for 55 SCPoints, Callum Jamieson (RUC, $187,100, BE 11) finished with 13 disposals, 2 marks, 3 tackles, 4 clearances and 12 hitouts for 66 SCPoints. West Coast had a big loss in their WAFL match, losing 119-39 to West Perth, though to be fair (anyone who’s see Letterkenny will know how I said that) most of their players were numbered between 50 and 75, which tells you the number of top-ups that were in the side. Zane Trew (MID, $123,900) had 22 disposals, 3 marks and 4 tackles

New South Wales

GWS

GWS kicked off the Mark McVeigh era with a big 138-86 win over West Coast. Jacob Wehr (DEF, $123,900, BE -1) made his AFL debut and had 13 disposals, 5 marks and a goal for 51 SCPoints, Bobby Hill (FWD, $199,600, BE 50) had 10 disposals, 3 marks, 3 tackles and kicked 1.1 for 62 SCPoints, Jake Riccardi (MID/FWD, $235,400, BE 19) had 11 disposals, 8 marks, 2 tackles and kicked 1.1 for 69 SCPoints and lastly, James Peatling (DEF, $267,500, BE 5) had 23 disposals, 11 marks, 2 tackles, 5 inside 50’s and 3 goals for 132 SCPoints.

Sydney

Sydney had to put in some hard yards in the 2nd half, kicking 6 goals to 1, but still left them short with a 102-87 loss to Carlton. Patrick McCartin (DEF/FWD, $341,400, BE 41) had 16 disposals and 9 marks for 85 SCPoints. Colin O’Riordan (DEF, $198,100, BE 38) had 9 disposals for 43 SCPoints and James Bell (FWD, $178,900, BE 19) finished with 9 disposals and 3 marks for 22 SCPoints.

Sydney had a win in their VFL match with a 115-86 win over Coburg. Dylan Stephens (MID, $202,300) had 30 disposals, 6 marks and a goal, Lewis Taylor (MID/FWD, $188,400) had 28 disposals, 4 marks, 2 tackles and a goal, Matty Roberts (MID, $117,300) had 26 disposals, 5 marks and 2 behinds and Lachlan McAndrew (RUC, $123,900) kicked 2 goals with 4 disposals, 4 tackles and 27 hitouts.

It’s not a surprise to see the likes of Daicos, Gubcus, De Koning and McCartin being moved out either as the cash Martin is providing would allow plenty of upgrades to occur this week. They’ve been good players, but they were never going to be keepers this year, so bringing in premo’s is what you’ve got to do!

And that’ll be it for me this week, as usual you can reach me on the Twitter @BarronVonCrow or you can leave a question/comment in the section below. See you all next week!
