Cheat Sheet – Round 8

Published by Statty Matty on

Good morning you beautiful super coaches. And I mean that because you play Supercoach, but also you’re all ‘super’. It’s nice to have a week where I’m not scrambling to fix multiple injuries in my team, while checking who is under H&S Protocol, or having an injury test. I don’t think I could handle that every week.

This round should be pretty straight forward, keep your upgrade momentum moving, look for fallen premos and players trending towards top 6-8 in their position ‘for the rest of the season’. It doesn’t matter to your team what they scored before you get them. Just what you think they’ll score from now.

Just stick with your plan. I know I say it every week, but it’s a pretty simple game. Buy low, sell high, choose the highest scoring players.

Planning for byes is absolutely crucial now. Make sure any trades you make this week are helping your team score well around the byes (especially in cash leagues, where good bye planning can almost guarantee you 3 wins).

I think it’s also good to recognise how great the changes to trades (5 extras, and the Trade Boost) have been this season. Trade Boost has allowed some coaches to jump start their upgrades and be very close to “full premo” already. Some have claimed this will be boring, all the teams “will look the same” after the byes, but I disagree. If you were wise enough to start MPRs who have turned into keepers (Hewett* and Brodie for instance) and been lucky with rucks and injuries, well played. Enjoy your weeks of 2600 points.

Anyway, that’s enough for me. Good luck this week. And may the Fantasy Footy Gods shine their light upon you.

Russty_

Thanks Matty great stuff mate, so what trades are you doing this week Lads and Ladies?
I was thinking of bringing a rookie or 2 in early but it’s not urgent or necessary that I do, I could just do nothing and hang onto my trades for a change lol

TommyC99

Hey russty, for me trades are shaping pretty nicely. Bringing Crisp and carroll in but its which 2 to jump off out of NOD, JHF and Mccartin. Tough one!

Russty_

hi Tommy, for me I’m keeping Paddy, just keeping fingers crossed he doesn’t put his head in the path of someone’s knee again, offloaded JHF a few weeks back, wasn’t really scoring as well as I thought he would. Noddy will be one of the next ones on my hit list but I’m looping him this week against North, he’s handy for the swing but I have Daicos/Hewett there also.

JohnDJ59.Black Flag

Dow and Rachele will be going, just not sure who to bring in. Not mad about either Curtis or McComb, who are on the bubble. I like Carroll and Hamilton more, but do I dare to go early.

Russty_

Always a hard choice John, Gator did it with Clark last week and got some extra wins but now Clark’s out this week. Only Covid but imagine if he did a knee or something in his first or second game.

JohnDJ59.Black Flag

I’ve decided I’m getting Curtis in for Rachele, just have to decide if I bother trading Dow to either Carroll or Hamilton. It’s either one trade this week and three next week, or two each round.

JohnDJ59.Black Flag

Going with Dow>McComb and Rachele>Curtis. Not going early on any rookie, no matter how good they look. Carroll and Hamilton can wait until next week.

SchittSangers

It is a risk to go early John but sometime the Risk V. Reward and potential opportunity cost of not going early can be high.
I didn’t go early on Preuss because it would have closed my fwd/ruck swing at the time and I ‘had a plan’ that included English. Then had I team complications, again including English, that prevented me getting him after 2nd game or 3rd game, in hindsight if I’d passed on Hayes & taken Preuss early I’d be better off in points and dollars.

JohnDJ59.Black Flag

I’m with you there regarding Preuss, SS, I stuffed up big time not getting him in round 6, was thinking about going J.Hayes to him, but J.Hayes still had cash to make and had the fwd/ruck swing, then he went and got injured and after a 93k price rise I didn’t want to pay up the next round for Preuss.

Rick Grimes

Thanks Matty, great work.

Rick Grimes

Daicos to be a late out? I’m thinking of chopping him so I can just do two trades. Also may do a very naughty thing and go Hamilton early. I mean, we can trust him to get a good run at GWS, right…right?

SchittSangers

Kane Farrell was worth a look as well, 2 game ave of 80+ m/f and a similar price to Coleman but Covid said ‘Hi’

Rick Grimes

I noticed him, but is it a flash in the pan? His career record is middling. Probably wrong time of the year for a $260k punt.

SchittSangers

Perhaps but statistically he’s a much better option than Coleman. Any player that has been on AFL list for 5 years is a talented player and when they are sub-280k and averaging 81 after 2 games they deserve a closer look. He’s averaging 4.5 tackles and a goal p/game
if he scores 80 next game he’ll be 305k = 43k increase
then if he then scores
70 he will be 332k
+
75 he will be349k
+
80 he will be 363k
I did that calculation before covid intervened and he looked like a safe bet to make 100k and provide bench cover until his bye, he still could do that but he would have to continue his 2 game average

SchittSangers

If this year has taught us anything it is that concentrating too much on past seasons and disregarding the present isn’t a great plan

demonsdelight

Farrell is out

SchittSangers

Hence the use of the word ‘was’ instead of ‘is’

Nifty

Just read Vlastuin out this week..

SchittSangers

I think there might be some very high predicted scores for this round, mine is 2585 without a Gawn, Hewett on the bench and 3 rookies on field

ST1974

Great work Matty. I am in a position where I don’t have to trade, however, I am wondering whether this is the week to upgrade or downgrade rookies. I am think of downgrading Daicos to McComb or Carroll and upgrading Bowey to a fallen premium defender (such as Lloyd). The other option is to trade MacDonald to McComb and Daicos to Parker (would only leave me $11k).

Keep for your thoughts and any advice.

K.Sinny

I definitely wouldn’t be getting in Lloyd because he’s not in form at all. I like the Parker trade though.

The Ranger

Well I was hoping to not trade this week but with English and Hewett still on the bench I feel the need to paint the fence.
Daicos and Rachelle out gives me $790K to spend and I’m leaning toward Short and Rioli leaving me $133K.
I like the look of Short running thru the midfield, not sure about Riolis JS tho.
Thoughts?

JohnDJ59.Black Flag

Rachele has to go and Short will be a top eight defender. I wouldn’t be going early on M.Rioli.

The Ranger

Gotta pick a downgrade to make the trades work. Who would you pick?

JohnDJ59.Black Flag

I’m going Rachele to Curtis, since I have him in the fwd line, if you have him in the midfield, just get McComb in. I’m not going early on any of the rookies. Will look at Carroll and Hamilton next week.

demonsdelight

which Rioli ranger? Short is a must get

The Ranger

Maurice

Adam Farrelly

I’m currently trading out Hewett, Daicos, JHF for T.Stewart, Parker & McComb
