Around the Grounds – Round 7

Published by Barron Von Crow on

Hello community and welcome to another edition of Around the Grounds. We had another busy week in Supercoach with some MASSIVE scores being pumped out in Round 7, with 8 players produce a score of 150+, but more importantly than that, we also had a new crop of rookies play their first games and show some real promise, with Greg Clark producing a 104, as well as Jack Carroll, Maurice Rioli, Aiden Begg and Cooper Hamilton produce quality scores. And they’re coming along at the exact right time for us give we’re getting at the point where we may want to be moving on from our initial rookie selections who have or are close to peaking like Nick Daicos, Jason Horne-Francis, Joshua Rachele and that dang Nathan O’Driscoll. So long fellas, this may be a goodbye for 2022, but I’m sure we will be seeing you all much more in the future!

That’s enough of that for this week though, lets go see what happened in Round 7!

Victoria

Collingwood

Collingwood sits just in the 8 after their 115-90 win over the Gold Coast on Sunday. Jack Ginnivan (FWD, $319,300, BE 12) again did some damage up forward, booting 3 goals with 11 disposals and 2 tackles for 93 SCPoints. Richmond made easy work of the Eagles on Friday night, running away with a 165-56 win. Maurice Rioli (MID/FWD, $123,900, BE -43) had 14 disposals, 3 marks, 4 tackles and 3 goals for 92 SCPoints. Can’t expect 3 goals a week from him, but a nice start nonetheless. Joshua Gibcus (DEF, $293,300, BE -11) was again started worthy with 12 disposals, 6 marks and 3 tackles for 79 SCPoints.

Richmond had a bye in the VFL.

St Kilda

With a shooting accuracy of 18% the Saints rivalled my 3pt shooting accuracy in basketball, which lead to a 43-42 loss to Port Adelaide. Marcus Windhager (MID/FWD, $172,600, BE -5) had 13 disposals and 3 tackles for 54 SCPoints, Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera (DEF/MID, $230,100, BE 9) had a solid game with 18 disposals, 4 marks and 4 tackles for 85 SCPoints and Ben Long (DEF/FWD, $328,800, BE 53) finished with 16 disposals, 4 marks and 3 tackles for 76 SCPoints.

Probably had a chance at a higher score with the stat line, but the clangers and a 52.4% DE would have caused a score hit there. He’s on the bubble this week and will be another popular downgrade target. Mitch Wallis (FWD, $213,500, BE 23) hit the scoreboard early and finished with 11 disposals, 5 marks and 2 goals for 60 SCPoints and Lachlan McNeil (FWD, $246,400, BE 44) had 6 disposals, 1 mark and 3 goals with 5 tackles for 59 SCPoints.

It was again Robbie Gray who managed to sink the Saints, although this time he only managed to kick a behind to do it, but it lead to a 43-42 win for Port Adelaide over St Kilda. Sam Hayes (RUC, $191,000, BE -36) had 7 disposals, 2 marks, 2 tackles and 12 hitouts for 53 SCPoints.

West Coast

West Coast moved to the bottom of the ladder after their 165-56 smashing at the hands of Richmond. Greg Clark (MID, $117,300, BE -58) was the big surprise here, scoring 104 SCPoints from 24 disposals, 6 marks and 6 tackles. A great result, only producing 1 clanger really helped keep his score at a high level and I imagine he’ll be heavily traded in this week. Luke Strnadica (RUC, $102,400, BE -73) had 10 disposals, 10 hitouts and a goal for 76 SCPoints. Unfortunately he has already been ruled out for Round 8 due to Health & Safety Protocols. Hugh Dixon (RUC/FWD, $246,000, BE 47) had 7 disposals, 3 marks and 5 hitouts for 42 SCPoints, Xavier O’Neill (MID/FWD, $265,300, BE 78) had 10 disposals, 2 marks and 4 inside 50’s for 34 SCPoints and Willie Rioli (MID/FWD, $27,700, BE 91) finished with 7 disposals and 2 marks for 34 SCPoints.

Sydney

The Swans struggled in the first half, only kicking 2 goals, which put them far enough behind it lead to a 113-89 loss to Brisbane. Ben Ronke (FWD, $298,200, BE 47) had 9 disposals, 2 marks and 3 tackles for 49 SCPoints and James Bell (FWD, $200,000, BE 82) played 6% ToG and had 2 disposals for -1 SCPoints

A narrow win for the Suns in their VFL match, defeating Werribee 91-89. And if all that wasn’t enough, Ned Moyle (RUC, $123,900) also added 54 hitouts with 17 disposals and Joel Jeffrey (FWD, $127,400) kicked 3.1 with 14 disposals and 3 marks. Maybe they should swap their AFL and VFL teams this week?

Not a big surprise to see Greg Clark so heavily traded in after his first week and rock bottom price. Luke Parker has been a popular upgrade option this week, having the dual eligibility in both the midfield and forward line is a big plus for him as I think he’ll make a terrific forward line keeper. We’ve also got people buying low on the lies of Patrick Cripps, Touk Miller and Jayden Short, all who are underpriced this week based on what we know they can produce. Also not a surprise to see Rachele and Horne-Francis as the #1 and #2 traded out players this week, followed by O’Driscoll. All 3 have scored below what they have in the past for us and with a few bargains available it makes sense to sell them now.

And that’s it for me this week. As usual you can find me on the Twitters @BarronVonCrow or leave a question/comment in the section below. Also don’t forget to give the weekly Podcast as listen to with Lek, Patch and Damo as well as the upcoming Jock’s Mailbag with Damo and Clarky. See you all next week!

Great reading as usual Barron. We will have a few rookies to choose from next week, I like the look of Rioli with his mid/fwd.
