Around the Grounds – Round 6

Published by Barron Von Crow on

Hello Community and welcome to this weeks edition of Around the Grounds. Round 6 is in the books and it’s another week of headaches and decisions in Supercoach, unfortunately this time due to more injuries to the likes of Jack Hayes and Brodie Grundy who both suffered knee injuries, as well as others like Paddy McCartin, and we’ll also add in some rookies hitting their BE’s with the likes of Josh Rachele and Jason Horne-Francis looking to potentially lose money next week.

There’s a lot to go through as usual, so let’s get to it!

Victoria

Collingwood

Collingwood got the W in the big Monday Anzac Day Clash on Monday, defeating Essendon 93-82. Jack Ginnivan (FWD, $290, 600, BE 29) had an outstanding game, winning the Anzac Day Medal AND the Round 6 Rising Star nomination. He had 12 disposals, 5 marks and 5 goals with 5 clangers for 80 SCPoints. Nick Daicos (DEF/MID, $381,700, BE 80) had 23 disposals, 6 marks and 5 clangers for 71 SCPoints. His BE is getting up there this week, but he’s been getting enough disposals consistently that he can still score above that. Reef McInnes (MID, $165,100, BE 11) had 2 disposals for 17 SCPoints, Nathan Kreuger (DEF, $205,300, BE 36) had 1 tackle for 5 SCPoints in his 25% ToG and Beau McCreery (FWD, $249,200, BE 13) finished with 7 disposals, 3 marks and 2 tackles for 35 SCPoints.

Collingwood had a big win in the VFL, with a 131-73 win over Essendon. Tyler Brown (MID, $252,300) had 28 disposals, 5 marks and a goal, Harvey Harrison (MID, $117,300) had a goal with 22 disposals, Finlay Macrae (MID, $206,800) had 21 disposals, 3 marks and kicked 1.1 and Cooper Murley (MID/FWD, $117,300) had 18 disposals and 3 marks.

Carlton

A 2 goal to 6 second quarter set the tone for this one, with Carlton ending up with a 97-62 loss to Fremantle. Jordan Boyd (DEF, $138,800, BE 12) had 8 disposals, 5 marks and 3 clangers (all frees against) for 30 SCPoints, Luke Parks (DEF, $199,600, BE 32) had 9 disposals and 3 marks for 52 SCPoints and Corey Durdin (FWD, $205,200, BE 60) had 5 disposals, 3 marks and 2 tackles for 14 SCPoints.

Carlton got back in the win column in the VFL after defeating Werribee 93-74. Jack Carroll (MID, $123,900) kicked 2 goals with 27 disposals, 6 marks and 3 tackles and Tom Williamson (DEF, $244,000) had 17 disposals, 6 marks and kicked 1.1 and Alex Mikov (RUC, $123,900) had 42 hitouts with 7 disposals, 3 marks and 3 tackles.

Geelong

Geelong wasn’t really troubled in this one, ending up with a 121-61 win over North Melbourne. Oliver Dempsey (FWD, $102,400, BE -25) played his debut AFL match and had 16 disposals, 1 tackle and a goal for 65 SCPoints. Sam De Koning (DEF/FWD, $218,700, BE 13) had 15 disposals, 3 marks and 3 rebound 50’s for 66 SCPoints and Tyson Stengle (FWD, $323,900, BE 21) had 19 disposals, 2 marks, 2 tackels and kicked 2.2 for 101 SCPoints.

Geelong had the bye in the VFL.

Hawthorn

The Hawks caught Sydney by surprise out of the gate, kicking the first 5 goals of the game, but weren’t able to sustain that momentum, ending up with a 109-68 loss to Sydney. Finn Maginness (MID/FWD, $172,300, BE 11) had 14 disposals, 8 marks and 6 rebound 50’s  62 SCPoints. Connor MacDonald (MID/FWD, $183,800, BE 24) had 9 disposals, 4 marks and a goal with 3 clangers for 30 SCPoints, Max Lynch (RUC, $207,700, BE 54) had 23 hitouts with 8 disposals and 4 marks for 56 SCPoints, Josh Ward (MID, $236,800, BE 26) had 14 disposals, 2 marks and 5 tackles with 7 clangers for 46 SCPoints and Denver Grainger-Barras (DEF, $242,700, BE 42) had 10 disposals, 7 marks and 6 rebound 50’s for 64 SCPoints.

The Box Hill Hawks had their accuracy issues in the VFL, booting 8.19, but that was still enough to defeat Coburg 67-43. Jack Saunders (FWD, $123,900) had 1.2 with 20 disposals, 8 marks and 3 tackles and Jackson Callow (FWD, $123,900) kicked 1.2 with 12 disposals, 6 marks and 11 hitouts.

Melbourne

The score was close in this one, but Melbourne made it that way after kicking 9.22. It was still enough for the win however, with the Dees defeating Richmond 76-54. Joel Smith (DEF, $223,600, BE 19) had 9 disposals, 2 marks and 2 tackles for 47 SCPoints while Sam Weideman (FWD, $229,700, BE 32) had 9 disposals, 1 mark and 3 goals for 58 SCPoints.

The Casey Demons remain the only undefeated team in both the AFL and the VFL as well after their 88-64 win over Richmond in their Round 5 VFL match. North Melbourne

Another loss for North Melbourne, this time losing 121-61 to Geelong. Paul Curtis (FWD, $117,300, BE -12) made his AFL debut and had 11 disposals, 4 marks and kicked 1.3 for 58 SCPoints. Flynn Perez (DEF, $164,800, BE 3) had 11 disposals, 3 marks and 5 inside 50’s for 52 SCPoints, while Jason Horne-Francis (MID, $322,200, BE 83) finished with 19 disposals, 4 tackles, 8 clearances and 5 clangers for 65 SCPoints. His BE is now at 83 for the week, a score he has only beaten twice this year, so could be in for a bit of a price dip this week. Shouldn’t be anything major though and will gain a bit more cash once that round 5 score of 39 rolls out his average (provided he doesn’t have another stinker). Lastly, Tristian Xerri (RUC/FWD, $346,200, BE 30) had 12 disposals, 2 marks and 19 hitouts for 68 SCPoints.

North Melbourne had a 104-60 loss against Frankston in the VFL. Charlie Lazzaro (MID/FWD, $201,400) had 20 disposals and 5 tackles and Josh Goater (MID, $117,300) had 17 disposals and 2 marks,

Richmond

A game that could have been a blowout, the Tigers were still a chance in this one, but ended up with a 76-54 loss to Melbourne. Joshua Gibcus (DEF, $257,100, BE -2) had a great game with 18 disposals, 12 marks and 7 rebound 50’s for 102 SCPoints. For those that kept him that is a nice return and should earn him some decent cash over the next few weeks. Thomson Dow (MID/FWD, $283,300, BE 97) had 7 disposals and 3 clangers for just 12 SCPoints.

Richmond moved to 3-2 in their VFL season after a 88-64 loss to the Casey Demons. St Kilda

St Kilda put on a 5 goal to 1 second half to end up winners in their Friday Night matchup, defeating GWS 77-60. The unfortunate news out of this game was Jack Hayes (RUC/FWD, $258,800, BE 29), who suffered a torn ACL and will be out for the rest of the year. He had 2 disposals, 2 marks, 1 goal and 16 SCPoints in this one, but will now be a must-trade out option this week. Marcus Windhager (MID/FWD, $143,700, BE -11) had 9 disposals, 4 marks and 7 tackles with 3 clangers for 51 SCPoints, Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera (DEF/MID, $208,700, BE 37) finished with 11 disposals, 2 marks, 2 tackles and 3 clangers for 40 SCPoints and Ben Long (DEF/FWD, $308,800, BE 31) had 14 disposals, 6 marks and 5 clangers for 62 SCPoints. Obviously expected to see Hayes and Grundy as the top 2 traded out players this week, Hayes has been the most popular trade in for Hayes as a nice little downgrade to free up some cash, combined with a downgrade from Grundy to Preuss, that looks to be freeing up some cash for people bringing Clayton Oliver in.

And that’ll be it for me this week, as usual you can reach me on the Twitter @BarronVonCrow or you can leave a question/comment in the section below. See you all next week!

Where would we be without you top stuff B NDD

derek

Garrett McDonagh must be close to a game

derek

not sure why so many are trading out McCartin. Before being subbed out he was playing well and has been all year. He is a 70 ave type player and will be useful as a DPP this year.

even this week, he will be a very useful loophole option on Two lines with Swans playing last.

gator59

Hi Derek I’ve just spoken to Paddy’s old man Matt and he tells me Paddy will miss this week which is protocol.. He passed all tests on the weekend and the doctors wouldn’t let him back on given his history..Matt says he’s already to go and there’s no problems with him

Russty_

I reckon I’ll keep Paddy and DeKoning all year as they’re good backup and swing with eachother, Gibcus looks like he has good JS too, hopefully Clark in the mids will be solid.

Kat

I’m keen to see Cooper Hamilton play for GWS this week Russty. Young player that went through the juniors, along with his twin brother who is at Carlton in reserves, at my local country football club. Very talented and has great sporting bloodlines. Hoping he does well for his family and the local community
