Around the Grounds – Round 3

Published by Barron Von Crow on

Hello Community and welcome to another week of Around the Grounds. It feels like this sort of time of the year where we’ve gotten over the first hurdle of selecting the correct rookie selections that the trade market tends to slow down, but it seems to have done a 180 this year, with the likes of Tim English, Tom Green and even Stephen Coniglio still being moved into sides. The extra trades certainly seem to have created an extra flurry of activity! We’ll be going through all that today, so let’s go see what’s going on around the grounds!

VICTORIA

Carlton could only manage to score 1.2 in the final quarter, but it was just enough to get the job done, taking a 74-73 win over Hawthorn. North Melbourne

Not a good day for the Roos who struggled to score after half time and had a 156-48 loss to Brisbane. Tristian Xerri (FWD, $278,000, BE -36) was a popular trade in last week and repaid the faith people put in him somewhat with 11 disposals, 8 tackles, 5 clearances and 25 hitouts for 81 SCPoints. He also had 5 clangers (3 frees against) that would have knocked his score down a bit as well. Richmond

Richmond had a 2-goal lead headed into half-time, but struggled after that, kicking just 3 more goals for the game to end up with a 117-84 loss to St. Kilda. Lastly, Ben Long (DEF/FWD, $243,000, BE 8) had 10 disposals, 2 tackles and 2 goals for 91 SCPoints.

In the VFL the Sandringham Zebras didn’t have many issues with the Tigers, defeating Richmond 94-40. Marcus Windhager (MID/FWD, $117,300) had a team high 31 disposals with 5 marks, 2 tackles, 11 clearances and 2 goals. An outstanding effort there. Leo Connolly (DEF, $228,600) had 23 disposals and 6 marks, Mitch Owens (MID, $117,300) booted 2 goals with 20 disposals, 7 tackles and 6 clearances, Jack Perris (MID/FWD, $102,400) finished with 14 disposals, 3 marks and 4 tackles and Josiah Kyle (FWD, $102,400) added 2 goals with 8 disposals.

Western Bulldogs

The Bulldogs could have won by more, but inaccurate kicking kept this one close, with the Bulldogs defeating Sydney 71-60. Mitch Wallis (FWD, $223,700, BE 46) had 6 disposals, 1 mark and 1 goal for 45 SCPoints, Ryan Gardner (DEF, $228,600, BE 9) finished with 9 disposals, 4 marks and 5 rebound 50’s for 56 SCPoints and Jamarra Ugle-Hagan (FWD, $230,200, BE 48) had 7 disposals, 2 marks, 4 tackles and kicked 1.2 for 69 SCPoints.

Sam Skinner (DEF/FWD, $123,900, BE -20) had 8 disposals, 3 marks and 2 tackles in 48 SCPoints though he was subbed out of the game after 66% ToG. NEW SOUTH WALES

GWS

The Giants had a 4 goal lead from the end of the 1st quarter and it stayed that way for the majority of the game, with GWS taking a 83-57 win over the Gold Coast. Jake Stein (DEF, $176,400, BE 8) had 64 SCPoints from 10 disposals, 5 marks and 3 tackles with 9 1%ers, James Peatling (DEF, $242,400, BE 53) had 9 disposals, 3 marks and 3 tackles for 46 SCPoints and Braydon Preuss (RUC, $204,700, BE -26) played his first game and had 16 disposals, 5 marks, 5 tackles, 7 clearances and 34 hitouts for 109 SCPoints. He’ll certainly be a popular trade in target this week I imagine.

It was a low scoring affair, but the Giants didn’t have many problems in the VFL, defeating Frankston 57-30. Cooper Hamilton (MID/FWD, $102,400) had 24 disposals, 5 marks, 2 tackles and a goal, Finn Callaghan (MID, $198,300) finished with 20 disposals, 6 tackles, 4 clearances and 2 goals, Jacob Wehr (DEF, $123,900) had 20 disposals, 6 marks and 3 tackles and Leek Aleer (DEF, $144,300) had 10 disposals, 5 marks and a goal.

Sydney

The Bulldogs had 11 more scoring shots than Sydney in this one, but it was close right up to the final siren with the Western Bulldogs winning 71-60 on Thursday Night Footy. Ben Ronke (FWD, $186,200, BE 58) had 3 disposals, 1 mark and 1 goal for 18 SCPoints in 31% ToG. Patrick McCartin (DEF/FWD, $210,200, BE -17) was again solid with 12 disposals, 5 marks and 61 SCPoints. Lastly, Dylan Stephens (MID, $202,300, BE 2) was quiet with 10 disposals, 5 marks and 3 clangers for 23 SCPoints. He’s still got a low-ish BE due to the 95 he scored in Round 2, but that’ll pop out of his rolling average and his BE has the potential to jump up to the 50-60 range next week, which puts him in a money losing potential situation for Round 5.

It was a very tight contest in the Swans VFL matchup last week, but they suffered a narrow loss to the Gold Coast Suns, losing 103-101. Matt Roberts (MID, $117,300) had 31 disposals, 2 marks and 5 tackles with 5 clearances, James Bell (FWD, $227,300) finished with 29 disposals, 2 marks and 4 tackles, Angus Sheldrick (MID, $130,800) had 23 disposals, 7 tackles and 5 clearances, Lewis Taylor (MID/FWD, $188,400) kicked 1.1 with 22 disposals, 5 marks and 3 tackles and Will Gould (DEF, $123,900) is still alive, he had 18 disposals, 4 marks and 2 tackles.

Not much on offer from the Suns this week.

It was a close one for the Suns in the VFL, but they managed to hold on for a 103-101 win over Sydney. Malcom Rosas (FWD, $130,600) had 18 disposals, 3 marks, 4 tackles and 4 goals, Jez McLennan (DEF, $123,900) had 17 disposals, 4 marks and 8 tackles and the Suns latest 1st round draft pick Mac Andrew (RUC, $189,300) finished with 7 disposals, 1 mark and 2 tackles.

No suprise to see Nic Martin coming in this week, he’s on the bubble so it’ll be your last chance to grab him at this bargain basement price. Tim English has been hot hot hot the first 3 weeks, having the dual eligibility in both the ruck and forward lines only makes him hotter.

And that’s it for me this week, as usual you can whack and comments or questions in the comment section below or hit me up on the Twitter @BarronVonCrow. See you all next week!

Top write-up BVC

Lekdog

He’s simply the best

Grimekervis

Awesome effort and much appreciated BVC!

Lekdog

He’s better than all the rest

Russty_

Better than anyone, anyone I’ve ever met.

JohnDJ59.Black Flag

Why would people be getting Preuss in when he’s not on the bubble and I wouldn’t be trading out Rachele to get him either.

demonsdelight

They would only if he is R2 At R3 it is a waste. Rachele is probably their only way to get him

joe444

Because of itchy trigger fingers and the endorphin rush of making a trade? Some of last week’s common trades (e.g. Whitfield out, Gawn out) were madness

Rick Grimes

Gawn out felt good.

trev

I read that one of last years top 10 has traded in 6 premiums already however to finance that he traded Gawn Grundy and Whitfield plus 3 rookies In came Hall Cripps Hewett Green dunkley and neale so I think he is smart .He is backing against covid and a change of thought by Andrews re close contacts

Lekdog

199% waiting on both!

Jason1111

I have Marshall stinking up R2 so my hand is just about forced to go early on big Preuss.
Also, trade arse off is fun

The Ranger

Love ya work Barron, thanks.

Russty_

Thanks Baz much appreciated as always, does Gollant get left out for The big Texan this week? Also, does Mark O’Connor comes into the Cats to tag the crap out of Neale again?

WTF

My bet is Fogarty, Russty. He looks lost on field right now.

Jason1111

Crows announced that Tex comes in for Fogarty. So at least 1 more week for Gollant

demonsdelight

He;s in so the c is off neale
