SCBBL | Ashes and Aus A Squad Selected

Published by Damo on

Australian selectors announced the Test and Australia A squad today which has ramifications for SuperCoach BBL teams.

Popular selections Mitch Marsh, Josh Inglis and Matt Renshaw have been selected in the Australia A squad, ruling them out for the first 2 rounds of the SuperCoach BBL season.

FULL AUS A SQUAD: Sean Abbott, Ashton Agar, Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Henry Hunt, Josh Inglis, Nic Maddinson, Mitchell Marsh, Matt Renshaw, Mark Steketee, Bryce Street

AUS A SQUAD MEMBERS SHOULD BECOME AVAILABLE FOR THEIR BBL TEAMS IN TIME FOR ROUND 3

While for the Ashes squad Travis Head, Usman Khawaja, Michael Neser, Jhye Richardson and Mitch Swepson have all been named, likely ruling them out for most of the season.

FULL ASHES SQUAD: Tim Paine (capt), Pat Cummins, Cameron Green, Marcus Harris, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Michael Neser, Jhye Richardson, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Swepson, David Warner

ASHES SQUAD MEMBERS COULD MISS THE ENTIRE SEASON, OR ONLY BE AVAILABLE FOR THE FINALS SHOULD THEIR RESPECTIVE TEAMS QUALIFY.

WHO MISSED OUT?

Jack Wildermuth, Matthew Wade, Ben McDermott, Marcus Stoinis and Moises Henriques weren’t named in either squad. Wildermuth and Henriques will prove to be popular selections now with the Sixers and Heat both having the Round 1 double game.

Matthew Wade and Marcus Stoinis will both be popular as well given their BBL pedigree.

CHEAPIES IN THE SPOTLIGHT

With Josh Inglis, Mitch Marsh and Jhye Richardson unavailable early on, the latter likely for most of the tournament, all eyes turn to Lance Morris (BWL $62,500) who could now regularly bowl 4 overs a game in key moments, while Cam Bancroft (BAT/WKP $92,200) could be asked to keep for the Scorchers in the absence of Inglis.

Harry Nielsen (BAT/WKP $76,200) will likely take the gloves with Alex Carey to miss the Strikers first 3 games, including their round 2 double.

Other openings include Oliver Davies (BAT $74,200) who could now even open with Khawaja unavailable and Cal Ferguson no longer there, while Matthew Gilkes (BAT/WKP $62,500) must now come under serious consideration.

No Neser, Swepson, Labuschagne and Steketee for the Brisbane Heat thrusts the likes of Xavier Bartlett (BWL $97,900) and perhaps one of their cheapies in Connor Sully (BWL $42,000) into the spotlight as well.

Thanks for the article. I don’t think I’ll be picking too many Heat players. I reckon they’ll struggle again and 2nd round blank is awkward. Sixers look better option for loading up round 1.

Yep, agree Rick with Heat, I have Lynn & Wildermuth only at this stage
