Cheat Sheet | Round 17
Good morning Community. Round 17 is upon us, and the top scorers in each line are becoming very apparent (except maybe the forward line). Reading comments from Twitter and Facebook, many of the questions “fix my team” or “what do I do here” are coming from people who have either blown trades or seem a fair way off full premo.
With that in mind, I’ve identified some obvious players (Ridley, Danger for instance), but also identified some players who are a little cheaper, but should provide good value for money. Obviously if you’re already full premo, or close enough in the next few trades then not all these picks will be for you, but if you’re struggling at this stage of the season take a look at these.
Highmore and Jordan have been great for significant parts of the season, but rookies who have financially matured, but are only averaging 70-75 aren’t going to cut it at this stage of the season. There aren’t a lot of players on the bubble at this stage, Jeremy Sharp has looked … sharp. 76 and 79 in GCs last 2 outings. Lachie Bramble has played 3 games, and already jumped in price, but is a $155k warm body, averaging 60. Riley Garcia is another player who has played 3 games already, but could provide a downgrade option to extract the cash, while keeping an active player on the bench. Garcia was injured in his debut, scoring 7pts. This score will roll out of his average, so his price will spike if he repeats last weeks’s 74 points.

That’s all I have for this week. We’re fast approaching the end of the season, 3 rounds to go before Finals.
Good luck to everyone.
What about Tim Kelly at 394k for m8?
Heβs that price for a reason. Only reason I ever go near a fallen premo is because of 1 bad game or an injury caused them to drop in price, not when someoneβs only got over 100 four times this season. Would maybe consider him for a M9 loophole later in the season if you had the trades and cash.
7 trades left and 123k in the bank. Looking to upgrade Jordon and my options are Selwood, Pendles, Bailey and Taranto although he won’t leave much cash in the bank.
I may also need to trade Tex if he is not named my options are Dale, Bailey and Toby.
Don’t think I will have enough cash to do both so which should be the priority.
Appreciate any thoughts or advice.
How many upgrades you still need to make?
Hi Holty01 I think I have about 5-6 upgrades to make. My team is as follows:
B: Lloyd, Laird, Ridley, May, Stewart, Bianco, Briggs, Sharp
M: Mcrae, Oliver, Merritt, Wines, J Kelly, Brayshaw (Free), Jordon, Byrnes, Edwards, Newcombe, A Fyfe
R: Gawn, Grundy, Reeves
F: Zorko, Ziebel, Danger, Martin, Hawkins, Walker, Waterman, Brockman
I have given up on upgrading Sharp, A Fyfe and Brockman unless I use one of my trades this week to downgrade one of them and bring in Sharp (GC) and leave upgrading Jordon to next week and just trade Walker out instead.
Brockman is playing.
I see. This is why you are after value. As value options your choices are all sound. Maybe Taranto out of that lot.
Tex out for Friday night according to the AFL website.
Thanks Jughead. Would you trade Tex out or leave him on the bench in the hope that he comes back next week and play Waterman at F6.
Play Brockman. Rest Tex. Save a trade.
Just caught up with this thread. I agree with Hugh. I’d play Brockman and see if Tex comes back next week. He didn’t look good straight after the game last week.
I would trade Tex this week to Dale since heβs not a keeper anyways and wonβt be playing, then downgrade a rookie and upgrade Jordon next week to a better mid than the ones you named. Whoever you donβt have out of Macrae, Bont, Steele, Oliver, Walsh, Merret, Mitchell etc.
Thanks G Train. I could go Tex to Dale and Byrnes to Sharp (GC) leaves around $200k next week. Already have Macrae, Oliver and Merritt. Bont and Steele are going to be out of reach but I might be able to get Walsh or Mitchell. Thoughts?
Apologies for the Late response but I wouldnβt bother with sharp unless youβre going to need to bench coverage or another future downgrade. I would just go for a non playing 100k rookie with DDP at this stage and pocket the extra 40k. Canβt go wrong with either of those 2, id probably lean towards Walsh slightly.
No problems G Train, no apology necessary. I decided to save a trade and keep Tex and play Waterman on the field which turned out ok. I have Edwards, Newcombe and A Fyfe on the bench and was going to bring in Sharp to generate enough cash to bring in Walsh, Mitchell or Neale next week for Jordon.
Newman or Haynes?
Newman with Docherty out helps hugely and a nice ceiling. Haynes seems the more durable and reliable. HELP !!
Might chuck a sneaky VC on Quadzilla tonight, good luck for this round fellas.
I’ve done the same Hedski so fingers crossed. Goo luck to all as well
Don’t underestimate Emerson Jeka (Hawks $123k on bubble). The football almost never entered Hawthorn Forward Line during his first 2 games. Absolute gun.
Any idea what his job security is like?
Iβm at the point of the season where Iβm thinking cheapest player with dpp to downgrade unless a rookie actually has good js and,if possible, might score ok.
Iβve only considered F Macrae (@112k) or a 102k non playing dpp. I wouldnβt mind a player who might actually get a few points if needed.
he’ll get a few games to show his wares. if his wares look great he’ll likely play until round 23, Jeka regularly kicks 4 or 5 goals, has 20-odd disposals at VFL level
On TRAC tonight. π
you bet Trig Trac
You must be pretty excited NDD. Demons lift and play there best football against the better teams/teams in the 8. Very handy trait to have come finals time. π
Very much so Trac and we still have Majac up our sleeve
Good to see Benny Brown back out there Neil, had a pretty decent game I thought.
Did ok one of my favourites
Finally had a 4 quarter game
who said they had never selected Tracca nor would crickey that was me. No wonder i’m crap this year. Tracca is just a bull and slowly catching the Bont To think your mob could have had him Russty teaming up with Steele Hannebury and Kent
Saints hardly ever secure any decent midfielders mate, it’s a miracle we got Steele, we’d rather choose duds like Hannebery instead.
Did you VC him Trig?
Thought long and hard about it but didnt go through with it. π₯ Vc on your boy steele this week.
In a neat summation of my year so far I took the VC off Trac 3mins before the start of the game.
He appears to be reliable now Feel your sorrow Ranger NDD
Feel your pain Ranger. I tossed up btw Oliver and Tracca for VC and as usual, chose the wrong one but nice to have a big score to start the round Relying on Bont now as my C
Still a nice solid start to the weekend for ya π
Just checked my league matches, only one opponent also has him. Good start in a few must win games.
I hope no one went early on butters slatty.
Terrible luck for the port future star.
i had him sitting on my bench all year in 3 of my draft teams
It’s tough to watch things like that happen, the game is better for fans with the better players on the park. Too many bloody injuries this season in general, something has to change.
Yeah kid is a gun
You could see the disappointment written all over his face
Hope not an ACL.
In my draft league, who should i put on field; Williams or Newman?
Holty can’t answer
newman
What is Jeremy Sharp’s job security like? I am thinking of trading Byrnes for him to help me upgrade Jordon next week. Is it worth it at this stage of the season.
Needing to upgrade CCJ to complete my FWD line. Which one out of Dale, DeGoey or Bailey?
Dale for me
Thanks Russty_
