Around the Grounds – Round 15

Published by Barron Von Crow on

Round 15 is in the books and what a way it was to kick off the post bye rounds, with some huge scores being pumped out. Unfortunately we’re back into muddied waters with COVID lockdowns and restrictions taking place, which has seen teams fly into Victoria to avoid any matches being cancelled

Hopefully we’re not at a worst case scenario and things clear up from here, but all we can do at this stage is set our teams up and hope for the best! So let’s go look at what options we may have for us based on last weeks goings-on.

VICTORIA

COLLINGWOOD

The Pies had their first match under new interim senior coach Robert Harvey which resulted in a 91-79 loss to Fremantle. Nathan Murphy (DEF, $192,400, BE 29) was the top scorer for the Pies rookie wise with 15 disposals and 8 marks for 72 SCPoints. Trent Bianco (DEF/MID, $194,000, BE 36) had 12 disposals, 5 marks and kicked 2.1 for 55 SCPoints and Caleb Poulter (MID/FWD, $320,300, BE 77) had 9 disposals, 2 marks and 4 tackles for 51 SCPoints.

In the VFL the Pies had a 104-65 win over the Frankston Dolphins. Liam McMahon (FWD, $117,300) kicked 4.1 with 9 disposals, 3 marks and 2 tackles, Jack Ginnivan (MID/FWD, $102,400) kicked 3 goals with 10 disposals, 3 marks and 3 tackles and Jay Rantall (MID, $113,200) had 25 disposals, 6 marks and 5 tackles.

CARLTON

The Blues did their damage in the 2nd quarter, booting 8 goals which lead to a 83-73 win over Adelaide. Matthew Owies (FWD, $275,200, BE 2) could have had an even better game, but kicked 1.3 with 17 disposals and 8 marks, but still scored 95 SCPoints. Paddy Dow (MID/FWD, $254,700, BE 1) had 20 disposals, 4 marks and 3 tackles with a goal for 88 SCPoints. He’s started to turn the corner a bit since his recall and is now on a 3-round average of 73.3 SCPoints. Lastly, Liam Stocker (DEF, $293,300, BE 27) had 17 disposals and 7 marks for 73 SCPoints.

In the VFL it was the battle of the past and present with the Northern Bullants getting their first VFL win of the year after they defeated Carlton 100-68. Sam Ramsey (MID, $123,900) led the Blues with 28 disposals, 2 marks and 4 tackles, Matthew Cottrell (MID, $228,000) had 16 disposals, 4 marks, 5 tackles and a goal and Josh Honey (MID/FWD, $123,900) kicked 3 behinds with 14 disposals, 3 marks and 2 tackles.

ESSENDON

The Bombers came as close as anyone to defeating the top of the ladder Demons last week, but fell just short with a 68-57 loss. Archie Perkins (MID/FWD, $230,300, BE 64) had 16 disposals, 4 marks and 3 clangers for 46 SCPoints, Nikolas Cox (DEF/FWD, $294,800, BE 94) finished with 7 disposals, 4 marks and 5 tackles for 43 SCPoints, Harrison Jones (FWD, $275,900, BE 21) had 4 disposals, 1 mark and 2 goals for 41 SCPoints and Alec Waterman (FWD, $213,600, BE 36) had 13 disposals, 5 marks but 6 clangers to take his score down to 33 SCPoints. Of that group Perkins and Cox are the two to look at trading out this week or soon due to their higher BE’s. All aren’t scoring well, but Jones and Waterman will last a bit longer as bench fodder.

The result wasn’t quite as good in the VFL with Essendon losing 92-44 to the Casey Demons. Ned Cahill (FWD, $163,200) had 14 disposals, 5 marks, 4 tackles and kicked 2.1, Tom Hird (MID, $123,900) had 18 disposals, 5 marks, 4 tackles and kicked 1.1 and Nick Bryan (RUC, $123,900) had 9 disposals, 5 marks and 34 hitouts.

GEELONG

A goalless first quarter put the Cats behind from the start and they ended up with a 94-50 loss to Brisbane last Thursday night. The Cats did not feature any rookie priced players in their lineup.

Over in the VFL the Cats flipped the script with an absolute thumping of the Lions, defeating Brisbane 172-54. Oscar Brownless (FWD, $123,900) had 30 disposals, 3 marks and 3 tackles, Max Holmes (MID/FWD, $121,800) had 23 disposals, 6 marks, 3 tackles and 2 behinds, Francis Evans (FWD, $123,900) kicked 4.2 with 18 disposals and 6 marks, Shannon Neale (RUC/FWD, $117,300) had 10 disposals, 4 marks, 2 tackles and kicked 4.1 and Ben Jarvis (DEF/FWD, $139,200) kicked 3.2 with 17 disposals and 8 marks.

HAWTHORN

The Hawks had a quality win on Sunday, defeating GWS 90-72. Jai Newcombe (MID, $143,000, BE 7) had 12 disposals, 5 marks, 4 tackles and a goal, but unfortunately added 5 clangers to take his score to 53 SCPoints. Lachlan Bramble (MID, $102,400, BE -39) had 11 disposals, 4 marks and 6 inside 50’s for 45 SCPoints, Jacob Koschitzke (DEF, $259,000, BE 47) finished with 6 disposals, 2 marks, 3 tackles and 2 behinds for 33 SCPoints and Denver Grainger-Barras (DEF, $184,800, BE 42) made his AFL debut and had 7 disposals and 4 marks for 33 SCPoints. Unfortunately he suffered a concussion in this match, so will be out this week.

The Box Hill Hawks had a 109-47 win over Aspley in the VFL. Emerson Jeka (FWD, $123,900) kicked 4.2 with 20 disposals and 11 marks, Keegan Brooksby (RUC/FWD, $206,900) kicked 2 goals with 18 disposals, 9 marks, 4 tackles and 12 hitouts, Ned Reeves (RUC, $123,900) had 12 disposals, 3 marks, 5 tackles, 35 hitouts and kicked 1.2 and Conor Nash (FWD, $193,400) had 28 disposals, 3 marks, 6 tackles and a goal.

MELBOURNE

Melbourne were inaccurate in front of goal kicking 9.14, but they did enough to get the win, defeating Essendon 68-57. James Jordon (MID, $404,400, BE 53) had 21 disposals, 5 marks, 4 tackles and kicked 2.1 for 86 SCPoints. He’s now added $280,500 to his pricetag for the year, but with a 3-round average of 89.0 SCPoints he’s still got a tiny bit of life in him yet. Still, at this point in the year if you can move him to complete some upgrades I would still consider it even with his scores still being useable.

In the VFL the Casey Demons had a 92-44 win over Essendon. Jake Bowey (MID/FWD, $117,300) had 26 disposals, 7 marks and 4 tackles, Sam Weideman (FWD, $240,200) kicked 1.3 with 21 disposals, 11 marks, 2 tackles and 10 hitouts and Kade Chandler (FWD, $161,200) had 14 disposals, 7 marks and 2 tackles.

NORTH MELBOURNE

The Roos had their 2nd win of the season after a 72-63 defeat of the Gold Coast Suns. Will Phillips (MID, $197,800, BE 48) had 12 disposals, 4 marks, 4 tackles and 2 behinds for 65 SCPoints and Lachie Young (DEF/MID, $215,100, BE 54) had 10 disposals and 1 mark for 44 SCPoints.

North Melbourne had a narrow in in the VFL, defeating Werribee 88-83. Bailey Scott (MID/FWD, $243,300) had 31 disposals, 6 marks, 6 tackles and kicked 1.1. Tom Campell (RUC/FWD, $333,100) had 19 disposals, 6 marks, 2 tackles, 49 hitouts and a goal and Eddie Ford (FWD, $117,300) had 16 disposals, 5 marks and kicked 2.1.

RICHMOND

The Tigers just couldn’t ever get going in this one, losing 62-22 to St Kilda. Callum Coleman-Jones (RUC/FWD, $281,900, BE 18) had 12 disposals, 5 marks and 8 hitouts for 67 SCPoints, Rhyan Mansell (DEF, $160,900, BE 70) had 2 disposals for 2 SCPoints from 18% ToG and Samson Ryan (RUC, $117,300, BE 48) made his AFL debut, but finished with just 1 hitout and 1 clanger for -1 SCPoints.

Richmond had a 96-66 loss to Sandringham in their VFL matchup. Patrick Naish (MID, $155,600) had 21 disposals, 8 marks and 2 goals, Riley Collier-Dawkins (MID, $237,900) had 27 disposals, 4 marks and 2 goals, Ben Miller (DEF, $123,900) had 16 disposals, 8 marks, 5 tackles and 8 rebound 50’s and Thomson Dow (MID, $146,100) had 22 disposals, 3 marks, 5 tackles and a goal.

ST KILDA

The Saints kept the Tigers to one of their lowest scores in decades, defeating Richmond 62-22. Mason Wood (FWD, $302,800, BE -24) had 18 disposals, 5 marks, 3 tackles and a goal for 108 SCPoints, Thomas Highmore (DEF, $251,900, BE -54) continued his strong form with 18 disposals, 5 marks and 91 SCPoints. He’s now on a 3-round average of 73.0 SCPoints (scores of 111 and 91 in his last 2) and is projected to go up another $100,000 in the next fortnight. Ryan Byrnes (MID, $276,000, BE 32) had 20 disposals, 3 marks and 2 tackles for 67 SCPoints and Leo Connolly (DEF/MID, $123,900, BE 27) made his AFL debut and had 11 disposals (only 1 contested) and 7 marks for 23 SCPoints from 30% ToG.

In the VFL the Sandringham Zebras defeated Richmond 96-66. Darragh Joyce (DEF, $186,400) had 22 disposals, 10 marks and 7 rebound 50’s and Paul Hunter (RUC, $153,300) had 18 disposals, 2 marks, 8 tackles, 42 hitouts and a goal.

WESTERN BULLDOGS

The Bulldogs were having trouble hitting the side of a barn at one point when it came to goal kicking, finishing with 13.20 for the game, but still took an easy 98-43 win over West Coast at Optus Stadium. Cody Weightman (FWD, $291,400, BE 71) had 10 disposals, 4 marks and kicked 1.1 for 41 SCPoints. His BE is starting to get to the area we’d think about moving him on, with his 3-round average at 60.3 SCPoints. Riley Garcia (MID, $123,900, BE 30) had 13 disposals, 1 goal and 5 clangers for 36 SCPoints, Anthony Scott (MID/FWD, $278,600, BE 67) had 8 disposals for 31 SCPoints. He’s at the same stage as Weightman, with his 5 round average now at 49.4 SCPoints. Ryan Gardner (DEF, $188,400, BE 33) had just 1 handball, but added 11% ers to take his score to 26 SCPoints. He unfortunately suffered a shoulder injury and is back on the injured list now.

Footscray remained on top of the VFL ladder after their 84-52 win over Coburg. Will Hayes (MID, $249,300) had 25 disposals and 4 marks, Ben Cavarra (FWD, $194,900) had 19 disposals, 4 marks, 2 tackles and kicked 2.1 and Jamarra Ugle-Hagan (FWD, $207,300) had 12 disposals, 4 marks and kicked a goal.

ADELAIDE

The Crows were terrible in the 2nd quarter, giving up 8 goals to 3 and it proved the difference, losing 83-73 to Carlton. James Rowe (FWD, $288,300, BE 26) had 13 disposals, 2 marks, 5 tackles and a goal for 78 SCPoints. Still clinging to a bit more life, but is getting near time to sell him off if you still have him. Chayce Jones (MID, $241,700, BE 22) had 15 disposals, 6 marks and 3 tackles for 69 SCPoints, Riley Thillthorpe (RUC/FWD, $335,100, BE 38) had 12 disposals, 3 marks and 2 tackles for 49 SCPoints and Will Hamill (DEF, $176,100, BE 6) had 7 disposals, 2 marks and 3 tackles for 43 SCPoints. Ned McHenry (FWD, $262,800, BE 84) had his issues giving away frees, with 3 of his 4 clangers coming that way. He also had 11 disposals, 4 marks, 2 tackles and kicked 1.1 for 37 SCPoints. PORT ADELAIDE

Miles Bergman (FWD, $311,600, BE -6) had 16 disposals, 7 marks and kicked 1.1 for 74 SCPoints. He’s now running on a 3 round average of 84.3 SCPoints, though the 115 he scored against the Suns rolls out of his average next week, so his BE will likely be back in the 60’s next week, but you can hold him for one more week if you’re one of the 6% of teams that own him. Martin Frederick (DEF, $170,600, BE 21) had 12 disposals, 2 marks and 2 tackles for 65 SCPoints and Dylan Williams (MID/FWD, $123,900, BE 20) made his AFL debut and had 7 disposals and 3 tackles for 30 SCPoints.

Western Australia

Patrick Dangerfield is the popular man this week, with a sub $500K pricetag, that’s a nice addition to your forward line. He’s running on a 5-round average of just 85.0 SCPoints, but teams will be hoping he can get back to some good form. Bramble, Briggs and Sharp are popular downgrade options this week which isn’t a surprise, with Zorko and Grundy being the big premo options this week, with another cheaper forward option in Sidebottom (3-round average of 102.0) rounding out the top 10

Impey is out injured, so no surprise to see him featured heavily here. Same with Lachlan Jones. Poulter and Weightman hav epeaked, while Flynn being traded out would likely be the cause of Brodie Grundy featuring in the top 10 for traded in this week.
