Around the Grounds – Round 12

Published by Barron Von Crow on

Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Around the Grounds. It’s an interesting week, one that may have thrown many people’s early season bye round planning out the window due to the moving of games. On the plus side we have been given some extra trades as compensation, so if you’ve been like I have and have been “trading ass off” as Crouching One would say, you could be giving a few high fives out over having some extra trades to perhaps save for the end of the year.

We actually had some VFL games to cover this week, with a few games being played outside of Victoria between the NSW and QLD sides. Normal games continued in Western Australia and South Australia. OK, enough jibber jabber, let’s go see what’s what.

Victoria

Collingwood

The Pies had a quality win in Adelaide, defeating the Crows 78-73. Caleb Poulter (MID/FWD, $296,300, BE 22) was good with 20 disposals, 10 marks, 3 tackles and a 1.1 for 89 SCPoints. Trent Bianco (DEF/MID, $123,900, BE -84) had 16 disposals, 4 marks, 4 tackles and a goal for 75 SCPoints. Max Lynch (RUC/FWD, $123,900, BE 5) was OK in the ruck and had 8 disposals, 4 marks and 18 hitouts for 46 SCPoints, Nathan Murphy (DEF, $197,200, BE 33) had 9 disposals and 2 marks for 37 SCPoints and Jay Rantall (MID, $123,900, BE 35) finished with 9 disposals and 2 marks for 14 SCPoints.

Carlton

Not a home game for either side, but Carlton lost to the Eagles 95-73 at the SCG. Liam Stocker (DEF, $243,400, BE 24) had 16 disposals, 6 marks and 4 rebound 50’s for 71 SCPoints. Paddy Dow (MID/FWD, $198,200, BE 31) had a score more along the lines of what people would have hoped for at the start of the year, finishing with 19 disposals and 6 clearances for 71 SCPoints. Matthew Owies (FWD, $229,400, BE 37) had 8 disposals, 5 marks, 4 tackles and kicked 2.1 for 55 SCPoints and Matthew Cottrell (MID, $228,000, BE 74) had 13 disposals, 4 marks and kicked 1.1, but had 8 clangers to drop his score down to 31 SCPoints.

Essendon

The Bombers hit the lead in the 4th quarter, but Richmond went into another gear and took this one 123-84. Nikolas Cox (DEF/FWD, $292,900, BE 40) won the Rising Star nomination with a fantastic performance in which he had 23 disposals, 9 marks, 2 tackles, 4 clearances and kicked 1.1 for 95 SCPoints. Alec Waterman (FWD, $202,700, BE 10) had 7 disposals, 3 marks and kicked 2.1 for 57 SCPoints, Archie Perkins (MID/FWD, $253,400, BE 48) had 13 disposals, 3 marks and 2 tackles for 38 SCPoints, while Patrick Ambrose (DEF, $217,800, BE 67) finished with 5 disposals and 2 tackles for 22 SCPoints. Lastly, Harrison Jones (FWD, $258,700, BE 59) had 4 disposals and 2 marks for 17 SCPoints.

Geelong

Geelong had the bye in Round 12.

Hawthorn

Hawthorn had the bye in Round 12.

Melbourne

It was a back-and-forth game, but Melbourne were too much for the Lions to handle, winning 97-75. James Jordon (MID, $367,000, BE 52) had a fine game with 20 disposals and 3 marks. No tackles like he normally gets, but still managed 82 SCPoints, which now puts his 5-round average at 79.0 SCPoints. He’s in a tough position as he’s still scoring well and holding his value, but you’ve also got an obvious downgrade target who is on the bubble in Trent Bianco. Gut says you gotta make that move as you can’t guarantee you’ll get the opportunity to trade down to another guy like Bianco again at this point of the year.

North Melbourne

North Melbourne had the bye in Round 12.

Richmond

Richmond proved too much for the Bombers to handle when the game was on the line, winning 123-84. Callum Coleman-Jones (RUC/FWD, $161,200, BE -102) had another good game with 11 disposals, 2 marks, 10 hitouts and kicked 2.1 for 86 SCPoints. There’s still a chance to get him in at a reasonable price and he will be a popular addition again due to his dual ruck/forward eligibility. Riley Collier-Dawkins (MID, $237,900, BE 59) had 9 disposals, 1 mark and 1 tackle for just 27 SCPoints. His 3 round average is 44.3 SCPoints, he has the ability to hit his BE this week but has probably been a bit of a disappointment Supercoach wise overall the last 3 weeks based on his scores in the first 3 games he played.

St Kilda

A close game and on in which the Saints fell just short on, losing to Sydney 92-83. Ryan Byrnes (MID, $251,100, BE 29) had 13 disposals, 4 marks and 2 goals for just 48 SCPoints. Oscar Clavarino (DEF, $123,900, BE -8) had 9 disposals and 1 mark for 45 SCPoints. He’s on the bubble this week but doesn’t look to have great upside in the short term. Tom Highmore (DEF, $186,900, BE 58) had 5 disposals and 2 marks for 17 SCPoints and Mason Wood (FWD, $246,000, BE 18) had 2 disposals and a goal 16 SCPoints from 20% ToG.

Western Bulldogs

The Bulldogs put on 5 goals to 2 in the final quarter to take this one 93-65. Cody Weightman (FWD, $269,400, BE 28) hit the scoreboard with 11 disposals, 2 marks, 4 tacklse and 2 goals for 80 SCPoints, Anthony Scott (MID/FWD, $273,800, BE 70) had 9 disposals, 3 marks, 2 tackles and a goal for 75 SCPoints and Ryan Gardner (DEF, $207,100, BE 93) had 3 disposals and 2 marks for 30 SCPoints.

South Australia

Adelaide

Wayward kicking cost the Crows, booting 10.13 to 12.6 which resulted in a 78-73 loss to Collingwood. Riley Thilthorpe (RUC/FWD, $276,700, BE 27) had 9 disposals, 4 marks, 4 hitouts and kicked 1.2 for his 76 SCPoints. Ned McHenry (FWD, $262,100, BE 18) had 14 disposals, 2 marks, 7 tackles and a goal for 74 SCPoints. He’s now on a bit of a hot streak with a 3 round average of 73.0 SCPoints. Chayce Jones (MID, $232,200, BE 18) had 15 disposals and 3 tackles with 4 clangers for 45 SCPoints while Jordon Butts (DEF, $284,300, BE 87) had 7 disposals and 2 tackles for 43 SCPoints. He’s hit a cold patch with a 3-round average of 43.3 SCPoints and looks like someone to move out before he loses more cash. Speaking of cold streaks, James Rowe (FWD, $295,600, BE 90) had 11 disposals and 2 marks for 32 SCPoints. His 3-round average is now at 52.3 SCPoints so is looking like a popular trade out target this week. Will Hamill (DEF, $177,100, BE 78) had 7 disposals for 21 SCPoints and Ronin O’Connor (MID, $123,900, BE 12) had plenty of time in the midfield, but finished with 9 disposals, 2 marks and 4 clangers for 15 SCPoints.

Adelaide were never really in their match against North Adelaide, losing 85-45. Luke Pedlar (MID, $162,300) had 23 disposals, 6 marks, 5 tackles and 2 clearances, Kieran Strachan (RUC/FWD, $146,700) had 20 disposals, 8 marks, 3 tackles and a goal and Tariek Newchurch (MID/FWD, $102,400) finished with 17 disposals and 4 marks.

Port Adelaide

Port had the bye in Round 12.

Port Adelaide had a bye round in the SANFL as well.

Western Australia

Fremantle

It was close headed into the last, but the Bulldogs proved too much for the Dockers, losing 93-65. Josh Treacy (RUC/FWD, $161,900, BE -32) had 10 disposals, 4 marks, 2 tackles and kicked 3.1 for 88 SCPoints and Liam Henry (FWD, $206,100, BE 24) finished with 9 disposals, 2 tackles and a goal for 57 SCPoints.

Wayward kicking cost the Peel Thunder in their match against the Swan Districts, kicking 7.17 which resulted in a 67-59 loss. Luke Valente (MID, $123,900) had 21 disposals, 5 marks and 3 tackles, Nathan O’Driscoll (MID, $117,300) had 20 disposals and 8 marks and Lloyd Meek (RUC, $213,000) had 13 disposals, 3 marks, 4 tackles, 34 hitouts and 2 goals.

West Coast

West Coast were too much for the Blues after half-time, kicking 6 goals to 4 to take a 95-73 win over Carlton. Zac Langdon (FWD, $241,600, BE -2) had 20 disposals, 4 marks, 2 tackles and a goal for 94 SCPoints. Harry Edwards (DEF, $203,400, BE -23) had 15 disposals and 9 marks for 84 SCPoints, Luke Foley (DEF, $127,900, BE 6) finished with 16 disposals, 5 marks and a goal for 67 SCPoints. Luke Edwards (MID, $117,300, BE -15) had his AFL debut and had 15 disposals, 3 marks and 2 tackles for 63 SCPoints, Xavier O’Neill (MID/FWD, $220,400, BE 32) had 14 disposals, 5 marks and kicked 1.1 for 50 SCPoints, Jack Petruccelle (FWD, $293,400, BE 85) had 9 disposals and 3 marks for 32 SCPoints and Bailey J. Williams (RUC/FWD, $207,800, BE 68) finished with 6 disposals, 5 hitouts and 6 clangers for 11 SCPoints

West Coast had a 93-66 loss to Claremont in Round 9 of the WAFL season. Connor West (MID, $102,400) had 31 disposals, 6 marks, 7 tackles and a goal, Mark Hutchings (MID/FWD, $157,600) had 25 disposals, 5 marks and 2 tackles and Ben Johnson (DEF, $123,900) had 20 disposals, 3 marks and 3 tackles.

New South Wales

GWS

GWS had the bye in Round 12.

Sydney

Sydney moved to 6th on the ladder after their 92-83 win over St. Kilda. Joel Amartey (RUC/FWD, $195,600, BE 15) finished with 14 disposals, 6 marks, 2 tackles and 9 hitouts for 66 SCPoints. Not the worst effort for him, but there’s a few other guys ahead of him that will be a bit more appealing to trade in. Logan McDonald (FWD, $227,700, BE 79) had 6 disposals, 3 marks and 2 goals for 42 SCPoints and Chad Warner (FWD, $300,800, BE 77) had 12 disposals, 2 marks and had 5 clangers for 39 SCPoints. His 3 round average is now 53.7 SCPoints, so is a likely trade out target this week.

Sydney was able to play their VFL match this week against Southport, which they lost 88-73. Nick Blakey (MID/FWD, $238,600) had 28 disposals, 4 marks and 3 tackles, Marc Sheather (FWD, $102,400) kicked 3.1 with 21 disposals, 6 marks and 5 tackles and Will Gould (DEF, $123,900) had 20 disposals, 2 marks and 1 tackle.

Queensland

Brisbane

Brisbane had the lead at one point, but couldn’t beat the Demons in the end, losing 97-75. Deven Robertson (MID/FWD, $328,500, BE 35) had 12 disposals, 5 marks and 8 tackles for 76 SCPoints while Jaxon Prior (DEF, $245,800, BE 26) had 14 disposals and 4 marks for 61 SCPoints.

It was tight as tight could be for the Lions in their VFL match against Aspley, taking home a 98-97 win. Tom Joyce (MID/FWD, $123,900) had 24 disposals, 3 marks and 2 tackles, Connor McFadyen (FWD, $123,900) kicked 3 goals with 19 disposals, 3 marks and 5 tackles and James Madden (DEF/FWD, $176,100) had 16 disposals, 2 marks and 5 tackles.

Gold Coast

Gold Coast had the bye in Round 12.

Not a whole lot on offer this week and the Eagles defensive options would be iffy at best currently due to the host of returning players coming back over the next few weeks for them. CCJ, Ned Reeves and Trent Bianco are all on the bubble this week, so should probably be the first ones you look if you don’t have them.

And that’s it from me this week. Don’t forget to check out Lek and Damo on this weeks Jock Reynolds Podcast available here. We’ll also have the Cheat Sheet, Captains Corner, the Panic Room and all sorts of other good stuff coming out for the rest of the week, so make sure you check all that out too!

As usual you can whack any comments or questions in the section below, or hit me up on the Twitter machine @BarronVonCrow and hopefully we’ll see you all here again next week!

Traded in Bianco last week for Highmore. This week will be looking at Flynn to Reeves and Rowe to CCJ and maybe Warner to Hall. I don’t have RCD, I traded in Poulter and Byrnes when everyone was getting RCD.

Corey

Toby Greene or Aaron Hall as last forwardline upgrade I’m saving a spot for Dangerfield in a few weeks

MAYhem

My initial plan was to bring in Hall, but I am bringing in Whitfield too so don’t quite have the cash for Hall. Am thinking either Toby or Robbie Gray.

TRIGGA HAPPY

Beside Reeves there are simply no non rd 14 bye rookies to trade in.
Shame but will be bringing in ccj to sit on the bench next week.
Holmes already been dropped and with rowell back expect the same fate for rosas.
Maybe hawks may come to the rescue and bring in downie just in time?
