Awesome work mate. If only our beloved Blues were constantly trying to improve every week like you lads on here are finding ways to improve this site, we might be a good side.
Unfortunately we have more heart at the moment haha
Well done guys – great podcast as always. Thoughts on Mcluggage 68, 86, 88, 103, 140…… breakeven 60 price $518k ?
He is underpriced. I would think he would average 105-110 for rest of the season. Wouldn’t think he will be top 10 but having him as a M7/M8 by season’s end would be a good side.
Very cheap, I’ve never been sold on him as a Supercoach option. Can he average 105+ from here on out and be an M8?
I reckon he can. He averaged just under 102 LY. Going into his 5th year hope to get upside.
His score and if he can breakout into the 110+ club will be dependent on the success of the Lions this year. I don’t think they are a top 4 team
Thoughts on trading Hickey to Mumford and having Flynn at R3. Basically handcuffing Mummy and Flynn, one should play every week barring injury (and maybe Briggs?). Almost a strait swap. Otherwise need 2 trades to get to Grundy.
Mumford has said six games max and cameron has already said unlikely this week. Preuss you would assume comes in when fit.
Forgot about Preuss, he is still listed as 8 to 12 weeks away though. Thing is they are winning when Mumford plays. It has to be tempting to give him more games, particularly if Flynn plays this week as expected and GWS lose.
Don’t love the handcuff in classic Supercoach. Wait and see for teams this week, suggest you’ll need to target Grundy
No Mumford
Hi Team at Jock,
I love the pod, and look forward to it every week.
I is a waste of trade moving Kosi – L. Jones. I don’t have any dpp in the backline to trade any other way. I have also used 8 trades to date.
Cheers
Without seeing your team and with 8 trades already used it might be a waste. Do you have cover on the bench?
Highmore is my other bench, and I’ve just brought in Ridley last week, which I will hold.
Might not need Jones then if Highmore plays
Jordan Clark is averaging 70+, just.
Yeah, 72 so he’s kind of done his job but it’s just a bit meh
I’m keeping Campbell. Playing GC this week. Also, SC Gods love to punish and a lot of people will ship him out this week. Watch him pump a hundy.
I hope so Rick! But he also might get rested, Swans have flagged rookie rests are coming!
Yep. The staggered team releases are gonna create heartburn as rookies get rested too.
I think I will be hanging onto mid pricers longer than I planned just for their job security to help avoid donuts.
I’m not taking chances on trading rookies out before teams drop. It would be a disaster to trade out Campbell only to find out the Swans rest Warner instead.
good point, might need to adjust my trade plan
True, but at least we’ll know Friday. If he’s playing I’m keeping him.
Hopefully he’s due for a decent score, I have so many other issues at the moment I have to keep him.
Who to bring in this week… Dunkley, Grundy (for Meek) or bargain basement Neale?
Grundy if no R3
Hey Laz, Dunks is in career best form but Grundy is a must have, sooner the better I think.
Neale’s score was made in a swimming pool. although I have him and are happy with that score, how will he go next time?..at this stage I’d be happy with anything near 100 from him.
Grundy for me. I like Dunkley and Neale at his current price, but the rookie ruck situation has the potential to blow up a lot of teams.
If you are running more than one rookie ruck, and have the opportunity to move to the Gawn / Grundy combo, I think you take it.
Apparently Liam Stocker racked up 160 ‘fantasy’ points in round 1 of the VFL SC? Hopefully we see him get a game for the blues pretty soon apart from Walsh I don’t see anybody else keeping him out of the team and I need a cheap high scoring defender…….but I need one thats unlikely to break after 2 games.
Had 38 touches in the reserves playing off halfback, do I trust us to back him? No
Looking at getting in Bont and L.Jones this round. Holding the Sydney trio for now, Campbell will be the first one I trade out. Happy that I started with Oliver, Gawn, Grundy, Dunkley. Injury and suspension trades have just about ruined my season, but Danger to Walsh has worked out alright.
Taking Cripps instead of Walsh, Dow instead of Impey and Fantasia instead of Jiath handicapped my season before a ball was bounced. Then I had
Rowell-Danger R1
Caldwell Rnd2
Ruck Donut, two sub-30 and a sub 50 R3
Daniel, and 3 sub 50’s including Brayshaws 48 R4
Ridley and 5 players with season low scores R5
My biggest mistake was not starting Ziebell at F3, because he didn’t fit into my structure and I thought he would be one of the first to get injured. Russty did try and convince me to start him, but I was staying away from most of the 200k-300k priced players, the only one I started was H.Young and he ended up one of my injured players. R1: Danger&Rowell, R2: Caldwell, R3: H.Young, R5: Ridley, who I will be holding.
It happens mate, there’s plenty of good ones I didn’t start with this year.
Yes, you can’t have them all to start with. I was surprised that his ownership was only just over 50%, I thought I must have been about the only team without him, since every team I come up against seems to have him. It probably wouldn’t hurt so much if he wasn’t scoring so well, with four hundreds, two of them big ones in five games. The 72 he scored in round 2 is more what I was expecting from him.
Think that is my biggest regret this season as well and was only cause I started Neale. Otherwise would have had Steele and could have afforded Ziebell instead of Dow whose duel position swayed me. Guess we always get a couple wrong. Luckily i chose Impey ahead of Daniher, so got one right but how I would love to have had Ziebell in my team at the start
It is nearly a season defining decision Kat, but who knew he was going to be the 3rd top fwd at this stage and probably a keeper. I just saw him as a stepping stone that we would be moving on in round 5-6 if he lasted that long. Thought Caldwell at F3 was a better fit with rookies after that. I had a look at your team and you have a good one there, also by a quirk of fate, we are on the same number of points scored.
looking back on my preseason teams (i took screen shots) Ziebell, Laird, Grundy & Oliver where the only ones that didn’t move
Laird, Oliver, Gawn, Dusty.
ive already burnt 7 trades and haven’t really improved my team
4 sideways trades:
Danger to Dusty
Neale to Ridley
Young to Chapman
Adams to Mitchell
3 rookie trades
Jones to Campbell (only real waste of a trade)
Sharp to Jordon
Meek to Sweet
Looking at JClark this week if he isn’t named. Will have $519k to get someone who is at least an improvement.
8 trades for me and they were like for like, so my team hasn’t changed much either. 1 suspension trade, Danger, 3 injury trades, Rowell, Caldwell, H.Young, 4 non playing rookie trades. The good in’s were Walsh, Impey, L.Young, Chapman.
Like it! Bont should serve you well
Sure hope so Lek, I was about 2k short in R11 last season to trade him in and then he went on his run, so wanted him to be my first upgrade this season. I only have Dunkley F1 out of the bulldog players, so I’m not over doing it, Bont will be my M2, just behind Clarry.
Gotta love the optimism of the pies supporters, 4,200 of them already traded in Finlay Macrae on the back of his debut 41.
McCreery I get but surely you give Finlay another week he’s not an onfield option and most of the rookies have beatable breakevens
Agree David!
Whats the thoughts on clark to jones and campbell to macrae or should I go a different option in the midfield.
Can’t go wrong with Macrae. Certainty to be among top mids and a captain option every week.
Looks good if you can do it!
Which macrae?…
Jack
Still think I was better off with a rookie ruck. Grundy 593 vs MacRae 646 coupled with Flynn vs Lazarro which became M8 rookie Maths dont lie Flynn plus 2 replacements 510 M8 300 plus How i am back to the same scenario Grundy and jones vs Mumford and Duncan Buckley may use grundy forward which will damage his score Not sure
Grundy played one good qtr on the weekend. After that scored bout 60 SC points. I’m not sold on him. His score really flattered him.
I am thinking the same Rick There are a couple of rucks close to him NN and ROB but daylight to gawn.
Mitch Lewis
$199k from memory?
How is everyone’s team value looking after the first few price change weeks?
Looking at my History, i’m already $500k less than this time last year and $600k less than 2019.
In recent years i’ve been struggling to get to $13mil before the byes (usually peak round 14-15).
At say $13.5+ you can have a fairly decent team of premiums averaging about $580k (22x $580k + 8 bench)
I’m not feeling confident to get a decent value this year, so i’ll need to be shopping for players at the bottom of the bargain bin. the dream of having the top 8 on each line is over.
I’m watching players who will be fallen premiums in the next two or three weeks, like Hawkins who could be $420k; Haynes $370k, Tim Kelly $430k, Brayshaw $430k, Marshall $460k; even Charlie Dixon for under $400k.
I’m thinking i might need to jump on a couple of them instead of going the obvious Macrae, Gawn, Steele etc
anyone else have a watchlist for the bargain boys?
Agree Derek, I have a fallens list ( some have & some will lose $ ) in no particular order that I don’t have in my team – D – LLoyd, Ryan ,Maynard, Crisp, M – Tracca, Mitchell,Kelly, Andy Brayshaw, Fwd – Danger , Zorko, Marshall , Bruest , Hawkins – not saying I will trade any of these in, need to identify why they have fallen and the ones that will increase will be skill but more luck
My team value is 11,346m, the leader is sitting at 11,987m
Houston is projected to get down to around 480k in a couple of weeks. Not super cheap, but assuming he is fit, would take some pressure off the backline rookie situation.
My teams value is currently at 11,045,200 Rank 24,031. Last season after round 5 the value was 11,845,300 Rank 5,151. Value 800,100 less. Rank 18,880 worse.
Apologies , I haven’t listened to the POD yet, —– Steeel Sidebottom @ 493K is one I’m looking at bringing in this week, has dropped 95k, still has a BE – 116k, with the Anzac Day game this week and the draw opens a bit for the Pies, I just see him as value , he will be in most FWD lines anyway by year end barring injury, why not get him now while he i only is 2% teams.
Sidebottom is now on the watch list
He was in the pod!
Team value is $11.67million, ranked at 7.8k after being around 60k after round 1 (left Gulden and Rowes tons on the bench and had Rowell).
I’ve used 7 trades though (Rowell, Danger, Heeney, Daniel and rookie corrections).
Copped a donut from Clark last week which sucks, might cop another this week depending on def rookies.
My value’s garbage after picking players like Adams, T.Kelly and A.Brashaw losing tons of cash, not to mention Neale.
Team value 10.99mil rank about 3000. Have made no cash, not Ziebell or Impey hurts that too
Leon Cameron quote – Mumford is more ‘unlikely than likely’ Flynny and Briggs are a huge chance to play next week
They need to put Mummy back in his Sarcophagus so Flynn can make us some sweet sweet moolah 🙂
Flynn is in!
As a D5 replacement for J Clark and potentially D6 keeper
Sholl or Hunter-Clark?
Both very similar except scholl has played against Roos already
HC 3 times 100+ and two times sub 80 ave 93.4
Sholl 2 times 100+ and two times sub 80 ave 99.0 (160vRoos)
Who is more likely to maintain a 90+ average?
I think Clark David, he seems to have found some consistency, hey what do you think of Caleb Daniel at a reduced price?…I was considering him.
Sholls scoring has spiked considerably since Sloanes eye injury, I’d have a look at his first 3 rounds first to gauge his finishing average.
I have some issues with my defenders and forwards… 3 forward rookies (Rowe, Brockman and Scott) on the field with Dow and De Goey on the bench currently, and in defense I have Kosi, Highmore and N Murray (played one game). Scored 2,210 last week, so not super stressed, but feel like I got lucky.
I’m thinking of trading Dow to McCreary and then I’d have $280,000 (total) to get Murray out for Fantasia or Butts? Or should I instead try and upgrade Dow…
Dow to McCreery and DeGoey to Dunkley is about the best move you can make but if you have Dunks already the next best fwd that you don’t have.
I’d fix the Dow Goey problem first unles you’re staring at a donut in defence
Don’t get Fantasia he’s a nightmare to own Chapman is more reliable and cheaper or even young who is on the bubble at 199k
You could even just swap Murray for Mansell who is also on the bubble
Okay cheers mate, appreciate it. You think getting De Goey out is that pressing of an issue? I may have a donut if Kosi and Highmore don’t play…
Sorry I don’t think I explained correctly, I’ll have 280k left including N Murray’s 102k, so unfortunately not enough for Dunkley.
I think Degoey is a big problem at F4 particularly when four players still under 430k have a 3 round ave above 100 (top 10 past 3 rounds) and season averages above 90 (top 20). they have all played every game and they are all averaging more than 25 pts p/game than JDG.
Plus there’s Tex, Ziebell, Toby and Impey who are averaging 40-60 points p/game more than him
And he uses his phone during a game and costs his club 20k
This is the trade! 100%
Danger to miss
Yep, maybe 2 weeks or more, ankle injury worse than first thought
i guess you don’t want him back in the Jungle Draft league Shake?
My team now with 2 more injuries is so depleted Derek. Im nearly going to give up on it.
Just do what I do Shake, trade 3 new players in every week.
Out for 2 months!
Wow…hope that helps Clark to play
We are not going to get to what we want team wise. I say start looking at players that have bottomed out ex Brayshaw 480k. Who you think can still be a keeper come yrs end
Agree Shake, gotta scout for bargains now…is Caleb Daniel still a keeper?
I’m really liking him Russty. Been a bit up and down this year so i need to see a ton from him before making the move but approx 400k for a bloke who averaged a ton last year is very very hard to ignore
I like him as an option this week, means I can hold the Swans boys too
Brodie Smith. 3 round average of 114. What’s the deal?
Kick in duties
Based on total points I currently have
5 of the top 6 fwds (traded in Dunks for Danger, Walker for Rowell)
1 of the top 2 rucks
3 of the top 8 mids (5 of the top 11, 6 of top 25)- traded in Boak for Caldwell
The top 2 defenders (3 of the top 15) – traded in Jiath for Daniel
I have never had more than 3 rookies on field
My team looks pretty good on paper but it is actually quite crap.
My team value is 11.36m
My Rank is 22,120
I also trade out Brodie Smith after round 2 to get Darcy moore
That turned out cruelly for you, Smith starts going great and Moore turns a bit crappish.
Is that because Moore’s been playing fwd?
Nah Moore hurt his achilles in round 2 and they didn’t tell anybody until after round 3 then 2 weeks after that they moved him fwd
So Braeden Campbell has to go this week. Who’s the best downgrade option ? McCreery from the Pies ? Doesn’t seem to be much on offer out there.
Can downgrade somewhere else and then upgrade Campbell ?
🤔 Neale or Walsh this week?
Walsh.
That’s my debate!
So if Ridley averages 125 from his 2 games when he returns, he will drop approx $55k. Is that worth trading him out just to bring him back in?
No.
No
Hey Holty, not sure how many trades you have left mate but I know you’re ranked right up there so if you have plenty left and can afford to burn a couple then maybe?
I considered the same but it’s out of the question for me, even if I trade twice this week I could still eat a donut.
24 mate. No donut on the weekend but had 5 that didn’t play so may also need warm bodies.
Hey community.
My side is going alright, moved into 355 this week but my rucks are a nightmare. Fielding Treacy as r2 while Flynn is out has been atrocious!
Assuming Flynn is back this week any thoughts on where I’m best to upgrqde this week?
Used 6 trades so far and have 107,800 in the bank.
I was thinking J Clark in def to Jones from port.
And then Warner to Neale via dpp. But any other thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
Def. Lloyd laird Stewart Doch Jiath Chapman (Clark, highmoore)
Mid. Macrae, Oliver, Fyfe, Walsh, Kelly, Gulden, Powell, Campbell (Jordan, Scott, Berry)
Ruck. Gawn, Flynn (Treacy)
Fwd. Dunkley, Dusty, Ziebell, Daniher, Warner, Rowe (bergman, waterman)
I’d be keeping Warner a bit longer. He is a gun and will get good scores. Should be one of the last forwards to upgrade
Yeh i agree, just using warner is the only way i can get to Neale if that’s the one i go for. I’m just short with Gulden
Might have one of the Swans rested and your decision made for you
Been lucky with injuries and still had 24 trades in the kitty, so thinking Campbell to Mcreery then cripps to neale this week. Feel like im gonna have to trade cripps at some point and it should be the lowest price neale gets too? Unless he decides to be crap again. Other mids im considering are Walsh and Boak, and if I decide on Boak I’ll possibly wait another week.
Hi Nicky, well done having 24 trades left!…in regards to Neale, it’s his back injury that’s been the worry affecting his earlier scores. I held him from the start and was well rewarded last game but it was a rain-soaked game so it’s all still a bit of an unknown, how his injury is / how he’ll score going fwd.
I think bottom line is, you’re gonna want to have him in your side at the end so it may as well be now. I traded out Cripps for Andy Brayshaw…that went well!, so just make sure it’s to someone good so you don’t regret it. 🙂
Exactly, I know I’ll need Neale at one point or another, and need to get rid of Cripps, still gonna take some willpower to pull the trigger and think its a high risk high reward move given Neales start to the season. Other options like Oliver are probably safer, they just don’t seem to have as good an upside.
Who wants to go for a drive?
Adelaide – The utilitarian jeep. Had to transverse a few bumps along the way but travelling along ok
Brisbane – Been in the workshop. A few tinkers under the hood, now starting to hum along
Carlton – Community Bus. Picks up and are carrying some passengers so who don’t have a ticket and are getting a free ride
Collingwood – stopped on the side of the road, just repaired a flat tyre, start again get another flat tyre and starting to overheat
Geelong – A flashy car but once you drive it off the lot it looses value, struggling to adapt to the new road rules
Gold Coast Suns – Who is driving the car? Broken GPS. Heading in lots of different directions.
GWS – The Ferrari as had something stuck in its exhaust, it seems to have cleared the last couple of weeks, starting to drive like a ferrarri.
Hawthorn – Only a 4 cylinder engine struggles to climb some big hills
Port Adelaide – Amazing car when bits are broken you can just replace them with bits that do the same job, a really well put together vehicle.
Richmond – the street sweeper – cleans up anything in its path
St Kilda – Nice and shiny on the sellers lot but when you start to drive it were we sold a lemon?
Sydney – Still feels and drives like a new car but once you get some kms on the clock how will it go with wear and tear?
Essendon – Struggling to get parts to replace the ones that were sold last year
Fremantle – putting along, really needs the driver sitting in the driver seat
Melbourne – a lot of work done over summer in the workshop, have hotted it up with all parts now working together, credit to the mechanic purring along
North Melbourne – released too soon, more work needed at the design phase, captain cant drive the whole car from the back seat
West Coast Eagles – A large semi that is going to cause some damage locally, big front end that could terrorise some smaller cars
Western Bulldogs – the drag racer, catch us is you can, have now added a fuel injector paid for by another business
nice trigg no Harleys?
not this time mate
that one is reserved for Mr Bennell who has hung up his leather jacket.
Collingwoods sound familiar even the passengers Jed Clampetts relic T model driven by Bucks BODENE
What about Charlie Cameron?
Chopper Charlie? 😉
Great read Trig, love the analogies, yep you got Stkilda right this year, flashy looking in the used car lot, then you realise the engine’s been stuffed full of anti oil burner and the diff had banana skins shoved in there to hide the inevitable whine and breakdown.
🙂
Very clever, surprisingly accurate, let’s hope the Pies get four new tyres soon.
Amazing
Excellent
Great work Trigga 😂
Flynn definitely back
Yeb Leon confirmed that and added this little gem
“I’d like to think the round one game was the true Matty Flynn. He had a fantastic debut in that St Kilda game, and we had 68 inside 50s.”
I think he scored 140 in the first game so lets hope that ‘the true Matty Flynn’ turns up against the doggies
Hey Shake, as a very knowledgeable pies man, what are your thoughts on Mccreery?
Tex to Dunkley?
No
Bruyan Manoeuvre
Mccreery community. Are we jumping on? I think macrae next week will definitely be a better option. As a pies fan JS is a tad shaky but looked good in a fairly poor forward line last week. Pies have a nice little draw with dons, norf and suns to come, but he does heavily rely on goals and we’ve already got the likes of waterman and rowe in our fwd lines who are the same.
So would ya do campbell – Mccreery this week or hold and do campbell – Macrae next week?
Got a feeling campbell will be rested this week..
Macrae next week, like you said we already have Rowe and Waterman.
I tend to agree John! Although if i get both in (macrae next week) ill have the funds to bring neale in with my second trade next week if he performs. Does that change your answer?
Only a maybe, I’m not sold on Neale just yet, I’m looking at bringing in Bont around the same price.
100 short on the bont so welcome back NEALE always the way
I might have to look at him now Tommy with L.Jones out for 4 weeks.
Are CJ or Impey keepers. Pretty darn close , this year both looked to have improved big time
Not sure about CJ as there are lots of options in backline but with fwds dropping lile flies impey firming every week. 😮
Both could be keepers, Impey more likely to be a top-8 in his position
Players who come back after a year off usually tire in second half of year.
Impey did have a full preseason though
If you have him he might be one of your last upgrades
Is Kade Simpson the missing link at Melbourne? Imagine what he could teach these young players about preparation He left with the guage not quite empty
As a Coach or a player mate?
