Festival of Fantasy | Day 10

Published by Patch on

Is it day 10 of this festival? I don’t know. Time is meaningless and an illusion, and I have no clue what day it is. Who’s playing today? What round is it? What’s going on? I have no answers for you.

Actually I lie, I have some answers. It’s Thursday, which means St Kilda and Gold Coast play tonight after Collingwood will towel up Sydney. It’s still round 10 – a round which finishes tomorrow night.

Also – this isn’t relevant to today’s footy but this is just a Clayton Oliver appreciation sentence. What a man.

Collingwood vs Sydney – 5.40pm

Captains

Brodie Grundy – the Swans don’t really have a ruck. I mean Callum Sinclair’s okay, but Grundy will eat him alive. The Swans don’t really have a midfield either. Enough said.

Both Adam Treloar and Taylor Adams should get a decent run at it through the middle this week if you feel lucky and want to throw caution to the winds.

Don’t captain anyone from Sydney, for the love of god.

New faces

Trey Ruscoe had the best “telling mum he’s debuting” video of all time, let’s hope he can score Supercoach points as well. Small forward Sam Wicks will debut for the Swans.

St Kilda vs Gold Coast

Captaincy options

If you captain anyone other than Jack Steele from this game, you’re an idiot. Hopefully you captained one of Clarry, Neale or Macrae and have taken that, but if you’re desperate for a late-round captain and don’t have Giants midfielder who’ll eat the Bombers alive, I guess Jack Steele will do? He’s good at football this year?

As much as I love Touk Miller, no-one else from this game should be your captain.

New faces

We finally get a look at Jeremy Sharp! The Suns moved picks around to get Sharp in, and you’d bloody hope he’ll be good considering they moved their concessions on to get him. $117,300 midfielder – one to watch.

The whole breakevens thing

Low breakevens! (That’s good)

-27 – James Bell
2 – Elijah Taylor
2 – Matthew Ling
32 – Max King
33 – Connor Budarick
34 – John Noble

Chonky breakevens (the chonk is b a d)

186 – Brodie Grundy
180 – Adam Treloar
167 – Hugh Greenwood
162 – Taylor Adams

What are you looking for tonight, community? How are you tracking so far in this bye week?

Tonight's my first week with Jade Gresham in the side, who I noticed well after we recorded the podcast this week. Hoping he can hit 105-110 from here on out. Can some Saints fans back me up here? Or have I made a terrible mistake?

Sal

also keeping a close eye on him to complete my forward line

Greshprince4

Personally I am a huge fan of his work but his disposal efficiency is usually what lets him down. If he can keep it at a reasonable level then he should be able to average close to 100 for the rest of the year. Does have a SuperCoach friendly role at the moment.

Patch

I like the last sentence there. Fingers crossed he gets a decent look at it.

Mikee

Following. Really still undecided.

Russty_

He's been going allright Patchy..until now!…I think you broke him LOL

Sal

does anyone know where i could find stats for centre bounce attendances for the season so far, i know there is some on the afl website for each round but if there was for the season so far like total, or percentage of minutes played in mid etc.

Patch

I hate using the AFL website because it's trash – I get CBAs from this twitter account – https://twitter.com/AFLstatsmate

Sal

you are a hero! cheers patch

JEL

No byes in Round 13, going to be some bye carnage in rounds 14 – 16.

Paul

So all the fun happens during the SC finals! Fantastic!

John

Going for a all or nothing approach with Grundy C forgoing Neales VC, I’m up against a worthy foe in a cash league who’s just thrown Ollies double ton at me-game before I was stoked when Simpkin matched his Duncan-how quickly things changed! Have 21 playing this week but rookies have been terrible Starc my best who will be counted, need Grundy to equal or eclipse his B/E of 186, I’m quietly confident on this one. I’m guessing by 8pm this post would of aged badly!

Patch

Huge call mate… but I don't mind it. This is the year to be taking risks!

redherringfc

All it is.

Well done.

John

Oh well, gave it a crack 144 pre scaling, must admit though 55 at HT was concerning.

dontblushbaby

** Reminder – Collingwood V Swans game starts at 5.40pm AEST

Also does anyone have any intel on Trey RUSCOE Def/Mid 117k ? makes his debut today and could be handy with DPP and byes

Shake_n_bake

Will play a fwd role with Elliot playing more in the midfield as Pendles not there and no Degoey to swing between both. Same size as Elliot will play a similar role to Aarts

hedski

He looks good in the first half Shake.
(So do the Swans๐Ÿ˜)

ST1974

I have used two trades so far and not sure whether to use a third to get rid of Darcy Cameron and bring in either Bell from Sydney or Draper from Essendon (I won't know if he is playing until after the Pies-Swans game has started which is frustrating). It will leave me with a bit more cash for next week but only leaves me with 17 trades. In terms of my cash league, it won't make much of a difference since we both have Neale as captain and he has Oliver (and I don't – that's another story) and even if I had 18 more players it may not make much difference to the overall result. Keen to get your thoughts.

cogs94

Woosha said that Draper is playing

ST1974

Thanks cogs. Do you think it is worth bringing him in in place of Cameron who still has cash to make if I already have 20 players on the field playing this round?

Paul

I think so. Cameron can't make any cash if he isn't playing.

Derek

With rounds 12 and 13 with no byes, having Draper at R3 sounds a good idea

Lekdog

We are live again talking #supercoach again and watching #AFLPiesSwans

Shake_n_bake

Congratulations Lloyd 11 of his 1st qtr touches were 6 kick ins from behinds 1 from on the full should they really be that rewarded for really 7 from 11 touches basically kick is ๐Ÿค”

hedski

I don't know Shake, but as someone who has never owned and has serious Lloyd envy, NO.
Until I have him.

Shake_n_bake

Only have to have a game like the Pies just keep kicking behinds!!

redherringfc

60% of the kick ins. If his opponents kick 40 behinds a game he is going to kill it with 24 gifts.

TPh

Brought in the mighty Trey Ruscoe! Mainly for mid/def swing factor and to free up cash…but theres a lot to like.

Pman

He's looked pretty good and I reckon his Mum will be happy with his effort too after sledging him on the phone when he called to let her know he was picked!

JugHead

……………………….**comment deleted about Collingwood mums**…..

Holty01

Gee, Patch is going huge this round as well. Have him in the Happy Place. Not sure if you planned the round this way but only having the 1 premo missing this round is gold. Keep moving up mate. Think you will be pushing the top 100 after this round.

Holty01

Oops, sorry Patch. As soon as I wrote this Treloar went off with a Hammy. ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿผ‍โ™‚๏ธ

Shake_n_bake

How the $&@? Did Noble get -6 that qtr!! No frees against 2 handballs and a tackle that qtr. I’m finished bye ๐Ÿ‘‹

Russty_

Young Daicos looked a lot like the old man with that spectacular goal…also looks like Grundy's back to his best ๐Ÿ™‚

Pman

It brought a tear to my eye…his Dad pretty much invented that goal! Whilst he's not SC relevant he's just about Collingwood's most improved player this year and is making a name in hos own right. Can't wait until we get his younger brother Nick who is meant to be even better.

The Ranger

Nick will be a top five pick Pman, he's a rippa.

Russty_

How far away is Nick Pman?…I was considering Josh in the pre-season, he played well in those games, but he was awkwardly priced.

Pman

Next years Draft I believe.

Kangaz

Hope trelor will be back soon. Just finished my mids ๐Ÿ™

Russty_

Yeah bad luck there Kangaz, hope it's not a serious hammy for him..with his history and all.

TelescopicCox

Bucks has said 3-4 weeks. He was on track for a big score but he’s a must trade now

Pman

Appalling night all round on the injury frony, Quaynor in particular looked bad.

MagicGnome97

Grade 1 hamstring strains or whatever the technical term is are usually 3 weeks. Bucks said 3-4 probably as well. I'm very frustrated about it as a pies fan. Howe, De Goey, Pendles and Treloar are all part of our best 4-8 players, I'd say along with Adams, Sidey, Grundy and this season, Maynard. Honourable mentions to Crisp, Moore and Mihocek.

Anyway, from a supercoach point of view I was planning to trade him in next round, if you have him you have to trade him out now. Treloar was on track for 150+ today

Kangaz

Shows how good my week is. Close will be part of my best 18 due to ling and skinner

MagicGnome97

yikes

JugHead

C'mon you King boys…….. combined -1 SC at QT?………

TelescopicCox

Treloar looking at a month out. No more injury riddled mids next season after copping Treloar, Fyfe, Dunkley and Kelly injuries.

I’ll look at finally getting in Neale, or farming Treloar for value in Mitchell or a WCE mid

MagicGnome97

I think Neale and Macrae are the only locks next season in midfield.

Cripps and Bont disappointing.

Treloar, Fyfe and Dunkley with their injuries.

Kelly…why does anyone ever pick him? Hes been injury riddled for years now, after last season he was on my never again list.

Dangerfield underwhelming and potentially getting on a bit now ( > 30 in age)

Tom Mitchell??? hes been okay this season but underwhelming like danger tbh. a bit more consistent though and no age concerns.

I'm not convinced Oliver is a lock. 110 average before his 177 and yes he has a 177 and 205 in his last 3 games but in a normal season he is not at the same level as Neale or Macrae in supercoach.

Next season starting premos in supercoach:

Defenders: Lloyd

Mids: Neale Macrae

Ruck: Grundy Gawn

Forward: whichever premo mids are forwards next year, theres usually 1 or 2. eg. this year whitfield and walters.

TelescopicCox

Well said! I'm definitely taking notes to learn form this season. I've pretty much locked all the above in for next year

TOPHAWK1

Greenwood is back to doing his thing. Tough contested pozzies. Keep going son.

Russty_

Yeah he stalled a bit TH, could still ton up in the last though.

MagicGnome97

unfortunately he did nothing in the 3rd quarter which ultimately messed up his score. 68 at half time I think he was on.

Russty_

Sharp isn't Warwick Cappa's illegitimate son is he?…looks like him, he's got that mullet goin on!

Holty01

Lol, very true

NDD

Thinking the same looks a wee bit lost though

NDD

Those King boys look good. Hope they play in the same side one day Both teams are worthy top 8

JugHead

Games like this show why nobody should listen to talking head footy journalists.
A week in from the re-start they were saying the game is stuffed.
Each week since they have been saying rule changes are needed.
Each week since, the umpires have adjusted their interpretation of the rules under pressure from coaches / AFL / Journalists
Not EVERY game and umpiring decision is perfect. Just let them play footy. Good games like tonight happen all the time.
Fact- There are more AFL accredited sports journalists than Canberra press gallery journalists.
when there is no news / changes required, they just make sh!t up that isn't needed…….rant over.

Connor

Hearing Gawn may miss a couple weeks now, was told to miss 2 games prior to Adelaide but decided to play due to pressure on the club!

Russty_

Ow that's not good, guess I'll have to get Draper now.

JohnDJ59

The reason Taylor to Draper was my first trade this week, we need the cover.

Russty_

Yeah I probs should've done it last week John but I wanted to spend some money and do a few upgrades and a sideways-grade lol

JohnDJ59

It is a problem when there are so many things we need to get done to our teams, even with three trades, we just have to decide what to do first. I'm looking at three downgrades tonight, won't be getting in any premos till they've had their byes.

Mitch is back

Going to be interesting trading after tonight's game, and we don't have that much time to work it out.

Not many rookies worth downgrading to, unless I have missed something. Wicks for Syd scored OK, but will have the bye this week, Tobe Watson from WCE off the bye, but not much else.

Interested to hear which rookies others are bringing in.

JohnDJ59

I'm looking at doing three downgrades, out, Brander, Rivers, Green, in, Watson, Ruscoe, Schoenberg.

Mitch is back

Worked it out.

I'm going –

OUT – C.Taylor, Brander & Pickett

IN – Wick, T.Watson, T.Mitchell

Appreciate the thoughts of the community.

JugHead

There are much higher ranked coaches here than me, but I like it.
Two players coming in with fresh legs. And one who should come back fresh after his bye next round.
I have a feeling there will be quite a few people who find they are stuck with too many players having byes during league finals.

NDD

wicks has a bye next week Watson and Tich look good might do both

Jorg Ancrath

I'm enjoying these quick fire rounds. Less time to think about the hopeless trades I've made, can rage them straight out.

Russty_

Yep I was just looking at my pathetic side and realised, there's no way I'm getting close to full premo lol

Jorg Ancrath

This is a Yolo season. Might start making some outrageous moves. Every premo I buy turns to dust, so may as well go far, far outside the box.

Mitch is back

Whats a good score this round ?

I have 3 premos to play tonight in Whitfield, Coniglio & Haynes, and my top 15 scores (incl Capt.) have 1588 SC points.

Looking at 1900ish

Mitch is back

God stuffed that up, my top 15 including capt have 1724 points. (DEDUCTED TOO MANY SCORES)

Looking at 2020-2050 range.

JohnDJ59

That looks about par.

redherringfc

Absolute cracker of a first half for my team. 338 points from 5 players.
