Cancel your plans and get working on that butt groove, community. From Wednesday, the AFL will unleash 33 games in 19 days across 4 states (no points for guessing which state isn’t included). It means things that smarter people than me have analysed, and it also means the dreaded bye rounds will return. But, BUT, it also means MORE TRADES. Woo-hoo! Until then, we’ve got round 8 to sink our teeth into (which started last night, but ya know…) so let’s hook in!
Newz you can Uze
Toby Greene is back tonight as the Giants take on the Tigers and Sam Jacobs has won a reprieve with Shane Mumford being useless / injured. Pat Naish replaces the injured Josh Caddy.
North have made four changes for Saturday afternoon, the most pertinent being Jack Ziebell after he pinged his hamstring again in his return last week. LDU will line up for his first game of the year. Carlton have named an unchanged lineup. The Swans have done one better and named five changes, handing a debut to their 2017 first round pick in Matthew Ling. Their other changes won’t hurt you or your SC team
Hawthorn will debut former Sun and Eagle Keegan Brooksby for the game. Rejoice if you’ve still got Mitch Georgiades gathering dust on your forward bench, he’s back in this week as Port have dropped the Hoff for their game against the Saints on Saturday evening. Ryan Byrnes is straight out again for the Saints after debuting last week.
On Sunday, veteran Bryce Gibbs has been added to Adelaide’s 26 man squad. Essendon have again swapped Andrew Phillips and Tom Bellchambers. Former Lion Tom Cutler is also in the squad as the Bombers seek to replace Cale Hooker (calf). There will be at least one change at the Eagles with Brendon Ah Chee hurting his back. New faces Nic Reid, Harry Edwards, and Bailey Williams could debut alongside Luke Shuey. The Pies have lost Travis Varcoe and Jordan De Goey to injury Matt Scharenberg and Darcy Cameron are among the inclusions. Stefan Martin is out injured giving a green light for Max Gawn to score eleventy billion on Sunday night. The forgotten Alex Witherden has been included in the squad, and well as possible debuts for Connor Ballenden and Keidean Coleman. The Dees have added TMac and Nathan Jones to their squad.
Squads for Monday’s game between the Dockers and the Cats will be named tonight and finalised Saturday arvo.
These players come with free frogurt! (that’s good)
These players come with Potassium Benzoate! (that’s bad)
Smooth Kevy’s Lock of the Week
The buzz has been for Bailey Smith this week, but given that he played last night we’ll need to look elsewhere.
We’ll be given an extra four trades to get through the upcoming footy bonanza, so should we just get Big Maxy if you don’t already have him? He’ll set you back a few dollary-doos (776.7 dollary-doos to be exact), but his lowest score since the restart is 141. Worth it.
If you’re a bit tight for cash, a pair of Giants stand out this week. Lachie Whitfield (470.9k) has shed close to 135k from his starting price. He hasn’t quite hit his form of 2019 as yet, however take out his injury affected 8 and his average jumps to 99.5. His MID/FWD eligibility is also handy. Stephen Coniglio (501.5k) has only one score under 87 so far this year and smashed out a 141 last week against Brisbane. He faces the tager-less Tigers tonight. Is he back?
