PODCAST | Marsh Series 2: Electric Boogaloo wrap-up

Published by Patch on

Lek, Patch and Damo sit down and dissect all the action from the second week of the Marsh Series and what the big talking points are.

From changing teams, answering community questions and looking at mid-priced Essendon forwards, the resurgence of Kade Simpson and why West Australians are all bad people for calling potato cakes potato scallops.

The lads also make a wager over #BrayshawBreakout and assess the Tim Taranto situation.

What did you make of the second week of pre-season, community?

JR_Damo · 03/03/2020 at 23:48

You'll hear me sing Breakout on the next podcast. That Andrew Brayshaw podcast will be a full broadway stage show, get ready for it.

FozDaddy · 04/03/2020 at 00:11

Hey Community,

Going to start a cash group (not league), where the entry fee is as small or as much as you like (more or less). It gives you an opportunity to get involved in winning some cash if you like the idea of chasing overall rank, but don't seem to get close enough to get a sniff.

If you would like more details then send me a message on twitter @mattforrest29, on instagram @matt.forrest or send me an email at: [email protected]outlook.com

Alternatively, reply here with easiest way to be in contact and I'll message you.

Love you guys xx

    hedski · 04/03/2020 at 07:42

I'm keen Foz, will email you in the next few days.
How many dollarydoos are we talking, and will it be a winner takes all or tiered payouts setup?

      FozDaddy · 04/03/2020 at 08:53

easiest way to look at it would be a tiered payouts-type setup.

      Say there were 10 contestants, 3 x $10 entrants, 5 x $20 entrants, 2 x $50 entrants

1st place: $10 entrant. They would receive $10 from every entrant.
2nd place: $20 entrant. They would received up to $20 from every entrant (unless they entered less), minus what first place won. This ensures a slight payout for second, without first place losing some of their prizemoney.
3rd place: $50 entrant. They would receive up to $50 from every entrant, minus what first and second won.

If a $50 entrant won, then everyone who entered for less would pool to go to that winner.

    Lekdog · 04/03/2020 at 09:32

Fozdaddy we gotta get you an intensedebate account

    Billioux · 04/03/2020 at 19:41

Hey FozDaddy, i interested also. I will email you. Cheers.

Josh& · 04/03/2020 at 01:25

Can now put "name mentioned on Jock Reynolds Podcast" on my resume #BrayshawBreakMyTeam

    Lekdog · 04/03/2020 at 09:32

Jorg Ancrath · 04/03/2020 at 09:21

Is Naismith locked at R1 for Sydney? If so, I'm interested….veeeeery interested.

    Captain_Risky · 04/03/2020 at 10:11

He's currently my R2 as well.. I know I shouldn't but it makes the rest of my team look much better.. If he's playing he's staying!

      Jorg Ancrath · 04/03/2020 at 10:29

Yea I reckon. Should average 80 at worst. That's 40 down on Gawn, assuming hes fit and firing. I can take the $400k saving and run a 6th uber premo mid, who will make up the difference . Or 4 keepers up front, meaning I don't have 30s dropped on me by some dodgy rook im forced to play. Just gives so much more flexibility.

        RazzleDazzle · 04/03/2020 at 10:46

Naismith at R2 is so tempting if Gawn isn't fit when you can run Heeney at F4 and still go 5 deep in the mids. Someone please stop me

          DEE · 04/03/2020 at 11:49

hmmm… who is the R1 in Sydney?

            DEE · 04/03/2020 at 11:51

Sinclair… I think? He’s not injured is he?

              Jorg Ancrath · 04/03/2020 at 12:10

He's playing forward, I think. Need to see a team with both of them in there.

                Patch · 04/03/2020 at 16:21

you're all mad and Max Gawn will eat you for breakfast. Can I remind everyone of the 18 times we can VC/C Gawn and Grundy as a duo?

                  JohnDJ59 · 04/03/2020 at 18:34

If Max plays well in the Dees next game, he is a lock for me. He's been in my side from go, it would be nice to boost my other lines, but there would always be the problem of when do I get Max into my team.

                    Russty_ · 06/03/2020 at 11:59

Yeah John good to see him named, hope he's good to go and gets plenty of time on ground..I've had English up until now but Grawndy is the ultimate combo!

                  Russty_ · 06/03/2020 at 12:09

Not to mention the 5 scores in a row last season of 144 and higher, and his 212 in round 23.

                    Patch · 06/03/2020 at 18:01

                    Exhibits A-F right there

    Russty_ · 10/03/2020 at 02:13

Locked but probably doing a good amount of sharing Jorgy..he looks pretty keen to have a crack this season though.

DEE · 04/03/2020 at 11:54

Neale or Fyfe higher average for 2020?!

    Derek · 04/03/2020 at 12:07

Fyfe is in his declining years. Still don’t think is elbow is 100%. Neale can improve on last year.

      NoLanguage96 · 05/03/2020 at 22:15

He just won a Brownlow. He's not declining. LOCK

    Jorg Ancrath · 04/03/2020 at 13:02

Fyfe just recorded his best year, SC wise. Played 20 games. Not sure he's in decline.

      Jorg Ancrath · 04/03/2020 at 13:03

Best in 5 years, I should say.

        Derek · 04/03/2020 at 13:38

        How old is Fyfe?

          Derek · 04/03/2020 at 13:42

28, thought be was already 29.

His best years were 2015 & 2014, a while ago now.

          dontblushbaby · 04/03/2020 at 13:42

          28 , 29 on September 18

          Jorg Ancrath · 04/03/2020 at 13:44

Not too long turned28. I know it's not in the so called sweet spot of 25 to 27, but Dangermouse had his best season at a similar age. Special players tend to break the mould.

            Derek · 04/03/2020 at 14:14

Agree. The question was to split Fyfe and Neale? I think the age thing is the decider

I think both will be top 8

              Jorg Ancrath · 04/03/2020 at 14:27

Oh, in a two horse race I agree. Neale could even go bigger this year I think.

On another note, what do you think of Tom Mitchell. I keep coming back to him despite the risk. Even going at 50% intensity in the JLT, the ball seemed perpetually attracted to his hands. Reckon he knocks out a 120 without trying most days.

                Derek · 04/03/2020 at 17:19

I am happily picking him up second round in my draft leagues. Gift from heaven. In Classic I’m in the wait and see group. See how his kick to handball is and his TOG. Have a feeling we will see the Chad in the guts early while tich gets going.

      Patch · 04/03/2020 at 16:22

I'm team Neale, Jorg. Fyfe's always been a bit touch and go to get to 22 games and has flagged stepping back from the crash and bash of the midfield this year. Lachie's the safer bet for mine

        Jorg Ancrath · 04/03/2020 at 17:43

I've got both in my team. Figure if he floats forward he'll just kick and extra 2-3 goals. #fyfeisstilllife

    Russty_ · 06/03/2020 at 11:38

I'm gonna start Neale and hopefully be able to bring in Fyfe a bit later..after I see how much forward time he plays and how he's scoring.

dontblushbaby · 04/03/2020 at 13:38

With Taranto sidelined 4 -5 months surely Cogs gets his Mid minutes now and not in the FWD line as the coach muted not long ago?

    Jorg Ancrath · 04/03/2020 at 13:45

Seems a decent punt. He's captain too, isn't he. Shouldn't be short of motivation to turn those 60 point quarters into a full game.

      Derek · 04/03/2020 at 14:18

He is now too much value to ignore.

    Cotchinator · 04/03/2020 at 15:25

GWS have a VERY high internal rating of Tom Green so he may be given the opportunity, although we know how difficult it is to break into their side (and stay there).

      dontblushbaby · 04/03/2020 at 18:22

Its between Green & Hately I believe

        Russty_ · 04/03/2020 at 20:50

As good as Green was, Hately was better and has paid more dues, I think he deserves the chance more.

    EndoftheWorld · 04/03/2020 at 19:49

Not like they don't have 4 high first round picks in wait for that spot.

FearTheBeard · 04/03/2020 at 14:28

Doherty/Sicily & Tracca

Lloyd & J. Steven

Also would you go Cogs or Oliver for M5?

Thanks people πŸ™‚

    FearTheBeard · 04/03/2020 at 14:30

Sorry could even go Stewart/Laird with Tracca? just short on lloyd.

    Patch · 04/03/2020 at 16:23

Oliver for M5 every day of the week, and Sicily and Petracca for mine

      Derek · 04/03/2020 at 17:25

      Oliver M4, Cogs M5

Both are too much value to ignore

    Holty01 · 04/03/2020 at 16:42

Cogs for me Beard. No DeBoer tag.

    Tibor · 04/03/2020 at 21:26

Hard to go against Oliver. I reckon his 2019 was a fair bit short of his 2018, yet he just seems to smash out big scores. Looks fitter and better than ever and more likely to go up a level than fall back. Gets pinged for a few frees against sometimes hangs on a tick too long to his tackles, g3ts called for throwing a bit when replays show he has quick hands @nd handballs are legit. Look for his frees against stat and therefore scores to get a bump…

    JEL · 06/03/2020 at 15:51

Split the difference pricewise and take Zerrett as M5?

Derek · 04/03/2020 at 17:24

Hardwick takes a lot of the Hawks kick ins.
At least 50/50 with Sicily.

Hardwick is likely to miss 3 months.

Boost for Sicily.

    dontblushbaby · 04/03/2020 at 21:19

Damon Grieves 124k – could he replace Hardwick ? his game against the Saints was serviceable, played 90% – 17 disposals for 77 SC points

A watch at least v Melbourne this Friday

      Patch · 06/03/2020 at 18:02

Apparently Jaith more likely to get first run at it – would love to see Greaves in there, mind you

        Russty_ · 06/03/2020 at 23:55

Why didn't Grieves play Patcheroo?…CJ looks like a keen kid who could be good in the future but Grieves looked like he might be ready now…barring the odd rookie mistake.

    Russty_ · 06/03/2020 at 23:59

Sicily looked ok but still made some silly mistakes, just rust probably…at least he didn't turn into an angry backlashing flog like in past times. I reckon he's a decent choice for this year, I just don't have room for him.
Ceglar really benefitted from Bigboy mostly playing back.

Captain_Risky · 04/03/2020 at 17:58

Acres out,…. Brayshaw in …. I feel like I'm sinking into Mid priced madness. Just need a few more rookies in the Fwd line to save me!

Marvin · 04/03/2020 at 19:12

I got a few guys from the site last year to fill a SC keeper league so just wanted to hunt them down again and check they are keen to claim their team and go around again and also get some details to confirm a draft time. As draft is such a shitshow most of the teams have already been assigned to the original owner where they have registered for supercoach 2020. So can the following guys if they see this either a) jump in the chat part of the supercoach league and post a comment to confirm or reply below letting me know if you aren’t going around again. Cheers
– Colin the instigator
– Neil – gaffs whack
– king Lear
– Ethan – coffee black
– Jon – telescopic Cox

I’ve already got you down misty pieman

Cheers if you could let us know ASAP that would be great

EndoftheWorld · 04/03/2020 at 20:03

Damo – you were spot on about potato scallops. NSW agrees with you and we all know that's all that matters in Australia – cause the harbour and the opera house.

    Patch · 06/03/2020 at 18:03

you're on a one-way street to BANville, population: The Stupid States. #Vicxit #TateyCakes4Lyf

EndoftheWorld · 04/03/2020 at 20:17

Cameron – so good the Swans went and got Knoll in the midseason draft last year. Is Dean Cox this bad a judge of talent?
Gould – uphill battle to make round 1. With Mills, Rampe and Jordan Dawson playing that role, might only get in if Dawson goes forward with Buddy and maybe Reid out.

    Derek · 04/03/2020 at 22:06

Or Mills goes into the guts

hedski · 04/03/2020 at 20:38

I've gotta say that was the most unenjoyable time on sc I've ever spent.
Around 170 picks went in 30 minutes.
I didn't even have a chance to scroll through any players before I chose (since we didn't know beforehand who had been dropped from other teams from last year), seemed like we had 10 seconds per pick, I think I actually selected 3 players out of the 10 picks I got.
Not sure if every one else had a pre draft order but last year I had time to choose
Rant over, now I'll just have to kill McEvoy, Cruiser and a few other shit picks that I didn't select.
Peace out.

    Russty_ · 04/03/2020 at 20:48

I know what ya mean mate, it was all a bit rushy, most guys weren't picking anyone cause they just kept their team from last year, I thought we had to dump 10 so I did last week, anyways, I think I ended up with a better team than I started with, you can swap Cruizer etc out now for a waiver wire pick or wait till the free agents come up.
What was up with the order too?…I kept having to do 2 picks in a row.

      hedski · 04/03/2020 at 20:58

Yeah I dumped 10 also, didn't end up to bad really just venting a bit, already hit the waiver trades.

        gator59 · 04/03/2020 at 21:18

I actually dumped 12 from last year that's how crap my team was

    gator59 · 04/03/2020 at 21:12

I think the actual keeper league in Jocks Jungleland was not a great spectical.. I'm sorry Hedski but we all had a minute to pick.. I had a rough list to work from but they mostly went pretty quick.. Next year I think I'll make a new side from scratch and no keeper League which I think makes more sense.. Actually your team looks ok with about 16 to 17 keepers compared to mine with about 14 keepers

      hedski · 04/03/2020 at 22:17

All good Gator, was just shitty I didn't really get to pick properly, maybe cos I was using my phone.
My sides not all bad, please don't think I'm bitchin at you, just seemed like we had a bit more time last year.
Cheers for running it again, plenty of time to trade spuds out πŸ‘πŸ»

        gator59 · 04/03/2020 at 22:25

All good Hedski..I'm sure we'll all be trading.. I might get rid of my ruckman

          hedski · 05/03/2020 at 04:18

Ha, got the bite from NDD.

    Derek · 04/03/2020 at 22:16

I thought it was ok. I had dumped about 8 players this afternoon, but when the draft started they were still in my team, but in the 3 mins countdown they all dropped to the free agent list.

60 seconds isn’t long. You need to use your filter buttons quickly.

I’ve ended up with a half decent team if it was 5 years ago. Ablett, Selwood, Cotchin, Heppell, Franklin, Hurn, Simpson, JPK, Westhoff, NicNat, RGray just to name a few.

Hope there is some good fair trading done

      gator59 · 04/03/2020 at 22:26

Hi Derek you've ended up with a very handy side

        Russty_ · 04/03/2020 at 22:30

He's certainly ended up with a very old side haha

          Derek · 04/03/2020 at 22:41

I might have to see who can trade me Heath Shaw

They don’t need to play every week in draft

    Derek · 04/03/2020 at 22:25

    When did you get Titch?

      hedski · 05/03/2020 at 04:20

Had him last year and kept him.

Rocksta_ · 04/03/2020 at 21:59

Ok All, almost happy with my team aside from Rookie finalisation of course. I cannot however decide on this one backline position: Houston or Dawson. I’m thinking they will average much the same. Currently have Houston.

    Derek · 04/03/2020 at 22:19

Houston playing mainly midfield. That’s what you want from a defender.

      Rocksta_ · 04/03/2020 at 22:21

      Yep, agreed.

        Derek · 04/03/2020 at 22:35

However, Houston now has a round 11 bye since the China game called off. Something to consider

    Russty_ · 04/03/2020 at 22:28

I'm taking both Rocksta but if I had to pick, Houston, for the mid time.

      Rocksta_ · 04/03/2020 at 22:31

      Cheers Russty.
Here’s to looking forward to another enthralling year of SC.

dontblushbaby · 04/03/2020 at 22:07

Swans play Norf on Monday, hopefully LLoyd & Dawson play so we can get a read on their roles

I have Lloyd ,no Houston atm ,however he is another we need to get a gauge on his role when Port plays the Bulldogs on Saturday, with Wines out I could easily bring him in

    Rocksta_ · 04/03/2020 at 22:13

Yep, hopefully it becomes clearer over the long weekend. I’m pretty confident they will both be around the $500-$510K mark come seasons end, given they are both on the up and have talent.

Russty_ · 04/03/2020 at 22:20

Yeah he was my guy Neil, the one I didn't really want to get rid of lol..swap ya T-Mac for him?

    Russty_ · 04/03/2020 at 23:05

Cool propose it if you wanna do it, cheers mate

Hart attack · 05/03/2020 at 23:05

Looking for a competitive league or 2 to join

Alternativley this is one you could join 656454

Derek · 06/03/2020 at 08:36

Teams for this week look like proper footy teams.

Really looking forward to this weekend.

So many decisions to make.

    Russty_ · 06/03/2020 at 11:06

Yeah Derek, this weekend will answer a lot of questions about who's for real and who's fool's gold.
My team looks like a dog's brekky at the moment, I need some guidance!…lol
Does Rivers not playing again mean that he isn't in consideration for best 22?
I've had English in my team for the last 2 weeks, now Gawn is playing he's back in..hope he goes well and plays most of the game.

      Derek · 06/03/2020 at 13:04

Docherty and Petracca are the two I’ll be watching close. I can fit one of them in.

I also want to see Lloyd and Whitfield justify their price

I’ll be looking at centre bounce attendees

      And rookies. Lots of rookies…..,

My team has surprisingly stayed same. Houston took Sicily’s place a few weeks ago

        Russty_ · 06/03/2020 at 14:06

I reckon Doch's a lock regardless, he might start slow but should come good, Petracca needs another look though and needs to back up what he did last week, otherwise there are other options.
I'm leaving Lloyd and Whit out of my starting squads for now..reckon they could be acquired later on.

JEL · 06/03/2020 at 15:58

Is there a JR group this year?

    hedski · 07/03/2020 at 13:52

    707848 πŸ‘

      JEL · 09/03/2020 at 12:21

      Thanks hedski

Russty_ · 06/03/2020 at 20:49

Looks like Gawny and Titch are just fine…68 and 63 at half time.
No worries mate!

    Russty_ · 06/03/2020 at 21:17

Looks like they're resting Gawn for the 2nd half,..will he be right for round 1 Neil?

      Russty_ · 06/03/2020 at 21:48

Yeah he looks like a good young Ruckman, might not get a chance for 3 or 4 years though, do you think he'll hang around to find out?

    Shake n bake · 07/03/2020 at 00:12

Didn’t think Titch was worth his 111 from his 24 touches. Just got to look out for champion data’s love child.

Matze · 07/03/2020 at 18:44

Macpherson or Dev Smith at F3 with Whitfield and Dawson F1/2? Thoughts?

    Lekdog · 08/03/2020 at 18:03

    I like MacPhearseome

silversovereign · 08/03/2020 at 15:12

Does anybody know how the saints and power bye in round 11 will be treated for SuperCoach purposes?

    Lekdog · 08/03/2020 at 18:03

I suspect it'll just be a normal round

      silversovereign · 08/03/2020 at 18:29

      I’m guessing the same Lek.

    Russty_ · 09/03/2020 at 01:59

Hi SS, it's best 22 and no extra trades for round 11, you'll need to cover any outs with your bench.

      silversovereign · 09/03/2020 at 18:19

      Cheers rus

FearTheBeard · 10/03/2020 at 12:13

Lads what ya reckon :

Laird, Houson (can go Sic), Docherty, BZT, Brander, Gould, Greaves/Keane, had to take 102k as im 3k short of a 117 player lol to make this squad work only annoying thing.

Neale, Cripps, Bont, Cogs, Brayshaw, Rowell, Greene, Pickett, Robertson, Mahony, Budarick

Grundy, Gawn, Cameron

Whitfield, Dusty, MacPherson, Steven, D Smith, Taylor, Rankine, King.

Pretty happy besides that d8 that I can't get a rookie likely to get a go.

Tossing up not starting gawn for jacobs and then 300k into another mid premium but brayshaw could be worth it to lock the key on Grundy&Gawn.

Only other option was maybe Bont down to Oliver to allow that d8 to become starvic

JayTee · 11/03/2020 at 15:53

Hey community,

Doing my head in with no rookies (like everyone else) and can't see any other options but to go mid-price mad this year.

Would love thoughts on this team:

D: Crisp, Houston, Docherty, B-Zerk, Starcevich, Brander (Worrell, Gould)
