PODCAST | Post-Bye Shopping Spree

One down, two to go – we’re getting through these byes, community.

However, having one down means we have six teams full of players who are bye-free, who have had their bye and have got it out of the way. We’re primed to snaffle these blokes who are rip-roaring ready to go and punch our way through the rest of the bye weeks, in particular this horrible, no good, very bad bye.

So we’re ignoring everything else. We’re ignoring Jack Ziebell being a VERY valid option because he has a bye coming up, we’re ignoring Jake Lloyd because he has a bye coming up, we’re not talking about … you get the picture. We want one thing and one thing only – post bye gems.

And boy have we got them. Patch, Damo and Lek run through the thing line-by-line, step-by-step, for good, solid, wonderful, cheap and yolo options who will* (should) play each and every game from here on out. There’s only one problem… where the rookies at?

  1. Patch says:

Alright, come on – which one of youse is most stuffed for this week? How few have you got playing post-trades? Can I hear 16? Anyone want to start the bidding at 16?

    • TRIGGA_HAPPY says:

Not too bad this week patchy.

Bigger problems next week as giants and crows are pretty prominent.

Without looking into my crystal ball wont know until rooks named/not named.

But looking like 17 before trades, maybe 19 after. Stocker to fyfe love that one! 😁

    • Jake says:

I'm looking at 13-15 depending who is named. 13 or 14 most likely 😀

    • JohnDJ59 says:

Only 14 on field at the moment, I will probably trade Clark to Naish to free up some cash and have 15 on field. I know what I'm in for, no league wins and all my good gains in the rankings from the last three weeks will come crashing down. Most years I've been able to get 18 on the field each bye round, but I've used more trades than usual this year, so I need to back off.

    • Rick Grimes says:

13-14 decent players and 4-5 kitten litter.

    • Derek says:

Round 12 ended up being my weakest, Hurn and Sticker out meant only 18.

I’ve got 19 this week and looking at getting Sicily and Gardner. That makes 21 (swing Hoff to rucks). That includes Corbett, Young, Parker, Gardner and Stocker. Need 2 of those 5 to do something decent.

    • KSinny says:

Actually surprisingly have 18 playing this week before doing any trades.

    • Holty01 says:

19, maybe 20 if I decide to bring in a Naish type.

    • The Ranger says:

My team has a bye this week.

    • Sam_01 says:

19 for me currently with the likes of burgess/Gardner/bewley/Parker infield sweating on Mr Greene
Get to play a power mid this round though
      Kelly/Fyfe/Cripps/macrae/bont/crouch/Walsh/bewley or stocker

    • GameOver says:

I'm rolling with 15 this week including Balta,Young,Gardner.
Predicted score of 1528 with Jelly as Captain

    • Eddie says:

I’ve got 12 but that’s including young and Corbett who might get dropped, f the byes

    • Cpt says:

20 on field (14 Premos) – I’m licking my chops at what might be! Well until teams drop. That always does my head in.

    • Lazza says:

I’ll be fielding 18 but scoring SFA with Gardner, Burgess, Corbett, Setterfield and Parker currently on field… probably trade 1 of them out for an on field premo though…

    • Swans2012 says:

I think I’ll have 20, but that’ll include burgess young Setterfield Bewley Gardner and Duursma

  2. Lazza says:

I have 19 eligible, but that includes Stocker and non-player Scott.. so 17 likely of which I have SC duds like Parker and Corbett.. will trade in 2 players to cover .. probably Marshall and Clarke… possibly Bewley too..

  3. GreendaleFC says:

Should have 19 or 20 available this week depending on Naish and Bewley. Blakely and Merrett are in the team this week, with Neale coming in next week. Will be two off full premo with Stack and Duursma as my two on field rookies.

  4. Round 13 Bye says:

I'm coming after your sides and I'm not stopping there I'm coming after your captain choices and causing glitches on the sc app on Thursday Night hahahahahahaahahaaha muuuu hahahahahah muuuu hahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaa

  5. Streaker says:

13 Premo's plus Duursma and a handful of rookies. Should field a full side but trades this week will depend on teams named as we may need to pull the trigger early on a couple. Looking to bring in Marshall and Blakely this week and have enough coin left over to trade Smith to Lloyd next week and be 1 short of full Premo. Neale and Treloar as a POD going cheap in next few weeks.

  6. Blue says:

If Bewley & Gardner aren't picked and theres no other downgrade options, should we get them anyway?

    • Derek says:

No. If they don’t play what is point.

If you want a non-playing loophole, get one with DPP

  7. Blue says:

    Best FWD under $470K?
Marshall, Mundy, Robbie Gray or Dahlhaus

    • KSinny says:

Well Mundy's 550k so not him, personally I'd go with Marshall.

    • Derek says:

      Marshall is a great pick.

He has a great draw, except for Max in round 19, he has it pretty easy.

    • Jace says:

I'm looking at Ziebell for $474k seems to be playing more midfield time as off lately, But he does have the bye next week.

    • redherringfc says:

Robbie has potential and is damn cheap. If you’re after a hail mary, he’s your man.

  8. iLoveNMFC says:

    Marshall or Daniel F6?

  9. Derek says:

the final 4 will battle it out in Round 22 to see who will be the ULTIMATE SURVIVOR.

    Good luck everyone

  10. Shake_n_bake says:

Im out of here fellas be back in 2 months. Hopefully l don’t slide to much 🤞🙏

  11. Nathan says:

I'm going Balta, Corbett and Answerth out for Boak, Naish and Gardner this week with the intention of shipping ROB, Gibbons and Setterfield next week. After that, I'll still have one more premo to get in the Mids, Defence and Forwards but 13 trades to do so and provided all my rookies get games, I should field 18 both weeks.

  12. Steeeve says:

14 trades left for me after 3 this week. How about y'all?

    • The Ranger says:

14 for me after two this week.

    • COREYSC says:

19 left but 16 after this week

    • Finnius says:

      10 after this week.

    • Lazza says:

Have 14, will use at least two this round.. depends on rookies and generating my Grundy bank .. but I will also rethink getting Grundy next week.. with a sus ankle and a BE of 195 I might just wait another week..

    • Tommy says:

18, but will have 15 after this week.

    • JohnDJ59 says:

Might as well be 0, since I can't see my team getting to full premo without using most of what I have left.

      • Russty_ says:

Feeling a bit the same Johhny, might have to hang onto guys like Walsh, Smith and Duursma for now…see how it goes.
Might make half my League finals hopefully but long way to go yet.

        • JohnDJ59 says:

I was thinking the same Russty, I thought a while back if Walsh could average around the 90-95 mark he would end up my M8, Hore is now going to be my D5 and I will be keeping one of B.Smith or Duursma as my D6, the other will turn into Ryan or Laird down the track. I've completely stuffed my season with too many sideways and injury trades. The correction trades at the start had to be done, but the others, not so much, I normally just put the injured players on the bench, but this year I thought I would be more aggressive, but using up six trades on injured players was just silly, at least I came to my senses and put Williams and M.Crouch on the bench while they were out.

          • Russty_ says:

It's a learning experience every year mate, no matter how long you've been playing for…being aggressive is fine but not if it leaves you a broken wreck at the end when it counts which I was last year, had Ryan Rockliff and Hogan out all in my grand final week and no trades left, had to depend on 3 rookies on field.
Sometimes it's better to take it up the keister a bit during the season and lose a few games and ranking spots…for the greater good. and the greater good is having trades left at the end.
Can't be effective in a war without any ammo.

            • JohnDJ59 says:

You are spot on Russty, next year I will go back to being conservative with my trades and if the injured player is a keeper, I'll just put him on the bench and save trades. I have improved ranking wise from the start of 68k to 21k now and moved up the ladder in most of my leagues, but I think I might struggle to make the finals now, even though I'm in the top eight in 5/9 leagues it's really tight. So yes we need to always be thinking ahead and not just what is in front of us at that moment.

  13. Rick Grimes says:

Anyone think Parish will continue his role in the guts? Back to back 130s, looked at home there.

    • Jace says:

I was looking at him also but 1 off those games was with Shiel out.
And the other game was when Shiel got injured

    • Blue says:

I was also looking at Parish
      BE of 5 and scores of 137 & 129
If he stays in the guts then why not

  14. KSinny says:

Thoughts on Answerth/Lockhart, Balta and Petrucelle out for Luke Ryan, Gardner and Naish? Thoughts.

  15. Twilightingale says:

With Gardner looking to be a highly popular trade in if he gets named, do you guys see value in keeping Moore as bench cover rest of season. Can swing with Gardner to cover both lines.

Plan was to upgrade Moore to Sicily, however think I prefer to upgrade Balta to him instead. Will hurt this week, likely field 17 but long-term might be better off.

    • Derek says:

Good plan, but Moore (despite the hype from the commentators) just isn’t scoring that well.

  16. The experts including BT got it wrong when they said Grundy was last years on field all australian ruck Could be wrong but wasn't it Max. Only winner for us but he sure smashed Grundy NDD

  17. Ktfg says:

What's people's thoughts on bringing in Rowan marshal or Robbie Gray?

    • TOPHAWK1 says:

I am seriously considering Marshall. I have cooled on Robbie Gray. With Wines coming back there is a risk Gray will spend more time up forward again. Cheers. TH

  18. JohnDJ59 says:

Anyone watch the Pies v Dees game, I was wondering what happened to Pendles, he usually scores low against us, but a 67 !, was Harmes on him ? he's done the job on a few players this season.

    • TelescopicCox says:

I was at the game and didn't notice a tag; he just didn't get enough of the ball. Dees dominated out of the middle which limited his impact and around the ground it was Sidebottom & Treloar racking up the touches, not Pendles.

I'd back him to bounce back

      • Sam_01 says:

agree with cox bloke just didn’t get near it, was a fast paced game favoured the runners like treloar and bum
Game wasn’t really played through the middle where he normally is our chief distributor and when it was the dees and gawny had it all covered

  19. TelescopicCox says:

Currently fielding 18 before trades, but that includes going early on Bewley & Gardner, as well as relying on Robbie Young, Burgess & Begley to hold their spots.

Early moves are Answerth, Moore & Balta out for Naish, Sicily & Boak, holding Hore as D6 for now

  20. Longy says:

I'm a bit baffled as to what moves I can make to improve my team. I feel like it is a good team on paper but cant seem to string together some solid scores to push up the rankings.

DEF: Hurn, Lloyd, Stewart, Sicily, Hore, Smith (Clark, Young)
MID: Fyfe, Neale, Cunnington, Cripps, Macrae, Sheed, Duursma, Baker (Answerth, Stocker, B.Scott)
    RUC: Gawn, Goldy
FWD: Kelly, Danger, Boak, Marshall, Heeney, Setters (Corbett, Young)

120K in the bank with 15 trades

    • Tony says:

      Upgrade sheed

      • Longy says:

Think i will be focusing on getting people like Setters, Smith, Duursma, Baker upgraded first.
At least Sheed is still averaging 95…

    • Russty_ says:

Hi Longy, with 15 trades left maybe go a double cash grab this week to beef up your bank…so you can get Grundy in a few weeks or whoever.
Maybe Clark to Naish and Answerth , Stocker or Scott to Bewley or Clarke.
Reckon Duursma and Hore could be some of the last rookies to go.
Good side though, Josh Kelly would help and getting rid of Setterfield in a week or 2.

      • Longy says:

        Thanks Russty.
I was definitely thinking Clark to Naish (especially now he has been named again this week)
Will probably go Stocker to Garnder (via DPP)
Looking at throwing in a nice little upgrade from Corbett to Dunkley this week as well.
Just working through the numbers to see whether I will be able to scrape together enough to get Jelly & Grundy. If not Dunkley may end up just being Daniels.

    • joe says:

Unfortunately, Longy, I don't think you've paid close enough attention to the byes. As far as I can see, you only have 11 scoring players this round ….

      2 defenders (Sicily, Smith),
5 midfielders (Fyfe, Cripps, Macrae, Duursma, Baker),
      1 ruck (Goldstein)
      3 forwards (Boak, Marshall, Setterfield)

You need to field at least 18, although some of us are stomaching going down to 17.

      • Longy says:

Thank Joe. I actually have 14 available this week after making a couple of trades. Obviously the two Youngs being dropped has impacted my available players this week but luckily I was already planning to drop this round.

I thought I would try something different this year and planned to tank one of the bye rounds (R13). Will see how that works out form me

  21. NoLanguage96 says:

Need a rookie downgrade this week guys for Atkins who has reached his ceiling and ripe, who do we think is the best bet?

Bewley, Gardner, Dylan Clarke….. any others?

  22. Dash says:

16 Trades – 65K – I need some trade advice for this coming round.
Which 3 priorities to turn into rookies and premium or fallen premium.
Would really appreciate some trade strategies. Thanks,

Laird, Sicily, Houli, Duursma, Burgess, Marsh, (Clark, Answerth)
Macrae, Cripps, Fyfe, Libba, Walsh, Hately, Setterfield, Atkins, (Heeney, O Baker, Neale)
    Gawn, Grundy, (Bines)
Boak, Dunkley, J Cameron, Parker, Balta, Corbett (Danger, T Kelly)

  23. Billy says:

Hey community Thoughts on These Trades if players are selected to play

    Atkins Hore and Answerth Out

    Boak, Ryan, Gardner In

Leaves me with 14 Trades Left and 2K, Which leaves me with just one mid rookie to upgrade (then i will upgrade Crouch and SMith)

    Team is
DEF: Lloyd, Stewart, Ryan, Sicily, Williams, Smith (Gardner Burgess)

MID: Cripps, Neale, Macrae, Fyfe, Oliver Treloar, Tim Kelly, Crouch (Bewley, Baker, Setterfield)

    Ruck: Gawn Grundy (Sweet)

FWD: Danger, Dunkley, Daniel, Boak, Heeney, Parker (Ham, Young)

  24. Dan says:

I just read that Stocker is set to miss the next month with a bone stress in his foot.

  25. JohnDJ59 says:

Ryan or Walters, who would you pick ? Ryan would be my second last or last upgrade in defence and Walters my last upgrade in the fwd line.

    • Russty_ says:

I'd say Ryan JD but I'm still dirty on the prick for letting me down in my grand final last year getting injured when I needed him.

      • JohnDJ59 says:

I think Ryan would be the better quality pick, but at the moment my defence rookies are holding their own and I have Drew sitting on the fwd bench not getting a game, meaning I have to play one of Parker or Petruccelle on field, so I will be going Walters and at least my fwd line will be complete.I thought about Ziebell, but I don't know all that much about him.

  26. Rocksta_ says:

I have 13 keepers playing this week, and can field 18 (provided that Young and Bewley don’t get dropped), but am only projected to score 1707. Anybody else experiencing a similar dilemma?
I’ve assumed Stocker is out or I’d have 19 ( bloody injuries have ruined my season)

    • Russty_ says:

Yeah Rocksta Stocker is out for 3 weeks to a month, I'm similar..predicted about a lousy 1600..will need to trade I think.

    • Derek says:

Some of the projections are a bit light. MCrouch projected to get 84

  27. Tommy says:

Was going to trade smith to Sicily, but that leaves me with 18 playing. Should I hold smith and go Lockhart to Gardner to give me 19 playing, or get Sicily in? If I hold Smith he will lose heaps of cash this week…

  28. Bored says:

What actually happened to jock, higgo and crouching? Are these guys doing it now?

    • Russty_ says:

Unfortunately they were on the same plane that went down as Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and the Big Boppa…
      Rip fellas.

  29. Russty_ says:

Positive news for Saints fans, ( I know there's one or two others here lol)
Rowan Marshall signs on the dotted line for 3 more years.
Jack Steven hung out with the boys today and did a bit of light training. (still has a bad bogan haircut)
Jake Carlisle nearing a return to Footy after his back issues and an operation.
Max King could be getting a start soon.
Super Gun recruit, Dan Hannebery (LOL) is almost ready to go and could be back in the big show soon.
Watch out top 8, here we come!..at some point maybe in the future.

  30. Tony says:

Do we think Dunkley will get cheaper at some point?

Want Daniel this week but I fear it might be the cheapest we see dunks for the rest of the season.

    • Russty_ says:

Not if he stays in the mids, he'll probably appreciate in value and could continue to knock out 130's.
I'd make the call based on who you want the most for the remainder of the season.

    • TRIGGA_HAPPY says:

      1 of the 7

  31. Franky says:

Thoughts on naish? Does he have js? Or will he get dropped once Ellis/lambert are back

    • Russty_ says:

Not sure Franky…Ellis is back and Lambert is 1 to 2 weeks away, see if he's named I guess.

    • Lazza says:

He did better than many of his team mates.. nonetheless Lambert likely to replace him eventually.. unless they give Butler and Higgins a stint in the twos and move him forward Higgins has gone ‘off’ the last few weeks and Butler is way off his 2017 form..

  32. DavidC says:

Lol, I'm playing someone in DT that only has 9 players available before trades. 16 out due the bye plus other non playing players.

    • TRIGGA_HAPPY says:

Sounds like the ol chestnut of:

Whack a team together at the start of the season.

Get off to a rough start…

Ahh this is too hard forget it.

  33. Brn says:

So i have 18 on field this week, but with a lot of spuds my projected score is only 1650. Playing for rank so do I change up my trades (eg hore out) or do i keep to the plan?

  34. Lazza says:

if you had to pick one, who would you choose out of Marshall, Sicily, Laird, or Johannisen ?

  35. ROB14 says:

Marshall, Daniel or Ziebell? Who scores better for rest of season?

    • Benjiherb says:

    • Yeahnah says:

All will be about the same, I'm going Daniel though. Can see Marshall getting tired late in the season and Ziebell's role can change from game to game.

    • Russty_ says:

I like Marshall of those 3 ROB, I also have Daniel though, Ziebell can deliver the odd stinker score depending on his role that week.

    • ROB14 says:

Thanks for replying guys… Think I'm leaning towards Marshall seeing I'm a Saints man, reckon he will be pumped after signing that contract extension haha

      • Russty_ says:

Nice one ROB, I reckon he could be as good as Grundy in a year or 2, he's really grabbed his opportunity with both hands in his first year as Ruck…and he does similar things, racks up stats all over the ground.
Longer is a spud and Pierce isn't ready to challenge for the spot.
Just gotta hope our illustrious list managers don't trade him away like McEvoy.

        • ROB14 says:

Yeah he has really stepped up this season, if he could win some more hitouts he would dominate!

    • Swans2012 says:

  36. Lekdog says:

We are going LIVE in the next 5-10 minutes, get into chat and let's talk some #supercoach rubbish https://www.twitch.tv/lekdoggames

  37. Eddie says:

    Daniel, Dunkley or ziebell?

  38. Benjiherb says:

Jack ziebell produces another 100+ should be a lock in now that he is playing in the mid. Racks up the tackles to I can't afford him but can afford dahlhaus but want ziebell .thoughts ??

  39. GarryGOAT says:

    Could use the help 🙁
    17 trades 10k

DEF: Hurn Sicily Williams Smith Rozee Duursma (Answerth Clark)

MID: Cripps Fyfe Macrae Treloar Oliver TKelly MCrouch Walsh (setterfield atkins Scott)

    RUCK; Gawn ROB (bines)

FWD: Danger Cameron Dunkley Marshall Heeney Larkey (Lewis Burgess)

I have no cash and huge holes in my team.
    HELP 🙁

  40. KSinny says:

Hey community would really appreciate some advice on my team. I've got 15 trades and $101k in the bank. Think I need to strengthen my backline but not sure what to do. Thoughts?

DEF: Sicily, Houli, Smith, Duursma, Answerth, Hore (Burgess, Lockhart)

MID: Macrae, Cripps, Gaff, Sloane, M. Crouch, Fyfe, Jelly, Walsh
    (Bewly, Scott, Gibbons)

    RUC: Gawn, Grundy (Bines)

FWD: Danger, Heeney, Kelly, Boak, Marshell, Petruccelle (Balta, Young)

    • Cam_H says:

Just thoughts with bye-friendliness in mind and assumes Ryan Gardner's a relatively safe pick …

If you're prepared to trade out Marty Hore, then Hore + Lockhart/Answerth to Ryan + Gardner + $40K-ish
If you want to keep Marty Hore, then Lockhart + Answerth + 85K to Johannisen/Houston + Gardner

Best of luck with whatever you choose.

  41. manolaki says:

Hi community, would love some advice on my team if possible.
12 trades and 400k in the bank.
Def: Lloyd, Laird, Houli, Smith, Rozee, Hore (Naish, Duursma)
Mid: Macrae, Fyfe, J Kelly, Oliver, Dusty, Cripps, Walsh, Stack (Baker, Stocker, Scott)
    Ruc: Grundy, Gawn (Bines)
For: Danger, Kelly, Boak, Heeney, Worpel, Baker (Setterfield, Young)

I cannot make a decision on plan for this week.
I want Ryan or Sicily and Dunkley or Daniel.
I also want Gardner and Bewley.
I want to trade out Stocker and Scott but will not bring me much cash and cost me too much to go to one of the upgrades also.
I am not sure if I should upgrade Hore yet. Also Walsh or Stack to Neale maybe next week as well as the premium I don't take this week in forward for Baker.

    Any advice or suggestions please?
