PODCAST | The Stormclouds Gather

It’s not just above Princess Park dark stormclouds are gathering this week, they’ve also arrived to the world of fantasy football in the ominous form of the byes. While Lek sprints off to help deal with his beloved Blues, he leaves the two chuckleheads in charge of keeping the danger at bay.

Stephen Coniglio is dead (to us), long live Stephen Congilio as a valid premium midfield option… apparently? Or apparently not? Damo and Patch unpack the mystique and confusion are Steghen Gonigliog, who scores TWO HUNDRED AND SEVEN POINTS on the weekend, IF YOU DON’T MIND. Which as a matter of fact we do considering we traded him out three weeks ago.

Anyway, his big score is here to stay, but should we pick him? What do we do with Sloane, Crouch, Whitfield and co.? How do we byes? Do we downgrade, upgrade, or sidegrade, forever twirling towards freedom? Confused? We gotcha. Plug in the headphones and enjoy a sensible, rational analysis of the byes.

What are your moves this week?

  1. Lekdog says:

Cheers for stepping up for me boys, been busy briefing Juddy for footy classified

  2. Paul says:

My move are, I’m not doing anything this week. I have 21 players playing this week. Se I’m not trading in anyone who’s got a bye coming up. Seems pointless to me.

    • Holty01 says:

So you have 21 playing with the likes of Hore, Hurn, Sloane, Whitfield and a rumour of Grundy a bit sore who could miss?
      Gee I’m really jealous.☹️

      • Lazza says:

Grundy is listed as Injury / Ankle – Return / TBC … that's not promising .. but he does have till Monday … the last thing those with Grundy need is to have the big C on him and then he is a late out.

      • Paul says:

        I sure do holty.

Lloyd, Stewart, rich, Smith and Answerth in defence.

Cripps, coniglio, Bradshaw, stack, stocker and Atkins in mid.

        Goldstein and Gawn in ruck.

Kelly, Dangerfield, Heeney, Moore, petrucellue and setterfield in forward line.

I ah e 17 trades and 90k in the bank. Plus my team scores 2389 on the weekend and cognilio wasn’t my captain.
So yep happy to save my trades this week and let my best 18 infield score for me then next week go hard on the trades.

    • Rocksta_ says:

I’m in the same boat Paul, and also intend not to trade. To take Holty’s point however, I have Hore and Grundy in that 21. I also have Williams and M Crouch. As such, I can’t really make any firm decisions until the teams drop.
That said, the only 2 rookies that played on the weekend that I’d consider trading in ( Bewley and Clarke) have a bye this week, and if Hinge gets recalled, he has a bye next week.
Oh, it could be a very messy week I’m afraid with some very big decisions to be made.

    • Lazza says:

I have 19 on field plus Whitfield and Williams .. so potentially 21.
I don't have Hore, Hurn, Sloane or Grundy … will have 2 of those post byes.
But I will trade at least this one this week to build the bank for R14.

      • Derek says:

As it stands, i have 18 playing this week (and ROB on bench)

The 18 includes; Whitfield, Williams, Hore, MCrouch, Rockliff & Grundy

Doesn't look good for ROB. Jacobs killed them in the seconds last week.

Didn't plan to trade in any keepers this week prior to them having their bye, looks like i will have to.

    • Derek says:

i dream of having 21 players during a bye round.

That is like having 3 loopholes without having to loop anyone.

      3 free hits

      that is trouser stretching

    • Daz says:

Im stuggling to trade any rookies either, all got cash to maybe if hore is out this week I think he goes as it essentially means 2 weeks, but beyond that not much going on.

  3. TelescopicCox says:

Sitting on 22 players but that's including Hore, Williams, Whitfield, Grundy & M.Crouch. Is there any merit in offloading someone like Petruccelle early to Gardner, as my R13 bye is looking shaky. With 18 trades left and sitting 26K, I feel I need to be aggresive to push for a half decent rank

    • Yeahnah says:

I'm considering this too, thinking of bringing in Boak and Bewley for Constable and Shai Bolton. At the moment have 22 players playing this week, including Grundy, Hore, Williams.

    • NoLanguage96 says:

      Dont mind the strategy tbh

  4. Brn says:

Is laird a good choice to bring in for whitfield?

I trust him more than houli and he has my most favourable bye considering the upgrades I plan to make over the next few weeks.

Any other suggestions? Already have lloyd, sicily and hurn

    • Holty01 says:

Think it’s a pretty safe bet mate. Can’t go wrong……hopefully

    • Lekdog says:

He's been solid but not great this year, not a bad choice

    • Mick says:

Houli. Same bye as Whitfield and been going big

      • Brn says:

My issue with houli is a combination of injury concerns (especially the last 3 years), he just turned 31, and he has never averaged over 94. He also seems to beat up on the weaker teams and the tigers draw is getting harder.

I know the additions to adelaide have meant that laird isnt getting those 40+ disposal matches (yet), but he has only scored under 80 a handful of times a year. Will have to do i guess

    • PizzaSafety says:

I'll let others take the punt on Houli but he burned me badly a few years ago and I still see him as a big injury risk. Laird is the safer pick and the one I'll be going to, we can't go to Hurn because of his injury and Stewart is probably a better pick but has that terrible bye that will inevitably cause a doughnut and negate himself as the better pick. TO LAIRD I GO! Also has some upside but I'm just expecting a 100 average from here on. Whitfield a Half decent sideways trade option when he comes back for one of the other defenders if you're so inclined but I reckon his current game style might not be suited to his skinny body. He goes in hard for such a slender man, boy needs to eat

    • Blue says:

I've got Houli so Laird for me

  5. Maverick_ says:

Whitfield has had surgery on his collarbone this morning and not available til after GWS’s Rd 14 bye

    • Yeahnah says:

Thinking of holding. Have decent enough cover in Duursma and Answerth

      • Grinter says:

GWS saying not available 'until after' the bye. That could mean 2-3 weeks after the bye, not necessarily the first week after.

        • Maverick_ says:

Yeah a collarbone you’d think would be almost 5-6 weeks minimum especially with how conservative GWS are.

          • NoLanguage96 says:

agreed six minimum – they can afford to be conservative, I'm dumping him for Houli

      • Lazza says:

A collarbone break & surgery is typically 6 weeks recovery at the earliest… often longer depending on the type of surgery..
        Get your trading shoes on…

    • Daz says:

bloody hell, been a tough few weeks in SC land

    • Lazza says:

Collarbone break & surgery is typically 6 weeks at the earliest… depending on the type of surgery it can be longer,, time to trade..

  6. cash_cows says:

GWS Twitter confirms Whitfield out, had surgery on broken collarbone.
Cameron said he expects Williams to be available.

    • Sam_01 says:

Kills us all, flicking him to laird pocket 65k get him when his break even settles could pick him back up for 520k

      • redherringfc says:

3 weeks in a row he’s been my top priority to bring in, but covering donuts on my other lines has meant he kept getting put off.

I’m cheering. I wish him a speedy recovery (round 15 for my last upgrade)

    • Derek says:

Cameron said he should be ok after the bye

      • Sana says:

How long after the bye is anyone’s guess. GWS are normally pretty shady in this department. I’ll hold him this week. Allow for further updates on his status. That said, my round 13 team might mean he gets minced…

  7. Jshch says:

Anyone had a look at Darcy Parish? Really liked his last two games – obviously, the big knock is inconsistency in his scoring.

  8. DavidC says:

Hurn likely to miss 1 to 2 weeks. His bye is next week.

  9. Stacky23 says:

Thoughts on Wayne Milera at 420k, 94 avg without injury score and suits bye structure very well

    • Stacky23 says:

also Robbie gray an option at a similar price

    • TelescopicCox says:

I don't mind Milera at his price. Going Whitfield to him pockets 150K, which could be a blessing in disguise to finish upgrades on other lines

  10. DrOetker says:

    Regarding Whitfields Clavicle.
No studies have ever been conducted by the AFL into recovery patterns for players with Clavicle fractures.
The National Hockey League in USA is the closest 'similar' contact sport to footy that has researched Clavicle fractures among players and these are the results
15 athletes were identified; 10 were treated operatively and 5 non-operatively. The average return to ice hockey was 10 weeks. If the one outlier is removed, the average is 9.1 weeks. There was one re-fracture in the non-operative group. The average time from injury to return to sport was 65 days in the operative group and 97.6 days in the non-operative group. Two patients were unable to return play during the same season.

Whitfield would have had a plate inserted I say 6-weeks minimum on sidelines and then 2-3 weeks of uncertainty and confidence issues.
Is it worth holding him? Hahahahahahahahahahaha…..yeah sure.

    • Brian Taylor says:

Brilliant analysis. I attempted a bruen manoeuvre by trading him to Fyfe after his cork injury. Looked a complete balls up when he returned with that 170. Now looking ok.

      • TOPHAWK1 says:

Spot on Dr Oetker. I had a collarbone break when I was younger. Trust me, they take time to heal. I could not play any sport for 8 weeks. And mine was a fracture and not even a clean break. Whitfield will be out for 6-8 weeks. It's time to punt his backside out of the TH side for a second time this season. See you next year buddy. One trade for me this week. OUT: Whitfield IN: Max Gawn via multiple DPP's. I got it done. BANG.πŸ’ͺπŸ’₯

        • Russty_ says:

Nice job finally getting Gawn in TH, I punted ROB last week for a rookie and Whitfield last week…yay.
          Still don't have Grundy.

    • DrOetker says:

Based on the data from USA I have to suggest that the 4-weeks stated on the latest official AFL injury list is just a cunning plan to screw those supercoaches who are considering holding Lachie.
USA ave is 65 days from break to return 65 days = 9.2 weeks. Even if whitfield recovers twice as fast as Yankee hockey players do he will still be out for more than 4 weeks.

To help ease the pain may I suggest the Papa Guiseppe Deep Dish Firebreather

  11. Ja191 says:

In planning for the other rounds I’ve managed to only have 16 players this week. Gonna bring in baker for Scott, are there any other rookies playing not on a bye?

    • COREYSC says:

      Hatley🀞🏻

    • TOPHAWK1 says:

You might get lucky with Hately coming into the GWS side this week. On the bubble and might have decent JS with Whitfield out. Cheers Ja. TH

      • TRIGGA_HAPPY says:

Wont it be a straight swap Williams for Whitfield?

        • TOPHAWK1 says:

I kept Williams over the last 3 weeks. Thank fark for that. So I decided to punt Whitfield for Max Gawn. Incredibly, I was able to do it. I had both Answerth and Duursma in my midfield. Moved Duursma to the backline to open up a midfield spot, then moved Mundy from my forward line to the midfield to open up a forward spot, then moved Westhoff to my forward line from the ruck, which opened up a spot in the ruck. Welcome Max Gawn!! Finally have Grawndy. Thats my only trade this week. Claw back two. Leaves me with 14 trades. Going hard this year. Cheers Trigga!

          • redherringfc says:

You lost me at Westhoff. πŸ₯΄

          • Russty_ says:

Nice work TH making the Grundy thing work, at least that's a trade worth making, last week I punted ROB to get Whitfield in and now he's out and I still don't have Grundy…yay!
Will have to hang onto Goldy a little while longer and god knows who to get in for Whitfield this week.
Hope you're staying out of the wild weather…it's pretty wild and wooly at the moment down south in W.A where I am now.

        • DavidC says:

I think Cumming goes out for Williams. Hately might be a chance to come in for Whitfield, with someone like Taranto taking on Whitfield's role.

    • Sana says:

Rotham could play with Hurn out

      • Brn says:

Yeah but you risk only getting one price rise out of both rotham and hately. Be prepared for them to play onr game then get dropped for another 5+ weeks

  12. Brian Taylor says:

Had been aiming to cull Duursma, Clark and Atkins over byes but they all have money left to make. Been an odd year.

  13. Browncow says:

Very odd BT! Thanks to Baker, Atkins, Stack and Duursma etc, missing Crouch, Williams, Rocky and Moore/Hore has cost me pretty much nothing. Had my two best scores with multiple outs. The year of rucks and rookies.

  14. Tommy says:

Does anyone have any news on Grundy? If he doesn’t play I’m in trouble….

  15. Tony says:

Anyone else considering holding Whitfield? Becomes a bit of a POD if you can get by without trading him

  16. Anyone know how the drafts work during byes? Finn Gat

  17. Dash says:

Not much money 18k and 18 trades
Any trade advice for byes welcome and the Whitfield news of course.

Laird, Sicily, Whitfield, Duursma, Clark, Answerth, (Burgess, Marsh)
Macrae, Cripps, Fyfe, Neale, Libba, Walsh, Heeney, Atkins, (O Baker, Scott, Setterfield)
    Gawn, Grundy, (Bines)
Boak, T Kelly, Dunkley, Danger, J Cameron, Balta (Parker, Corbett)

  18. Gav says:

How many players are punters looking at Fielding for the Rd 13 bye. I'm going to struggle to get 16.

  19. Tommo09 says:

Houli or Laird in for Whitfield?
I’m leaning towards Houli right now but still unsure

    • redherringfc says:

      Gutsy call.

    • KSinny says:

I'm going Houli for his round 14 bye, he's a POD and cause I've already got 3 Crows in my team.

    • Lazza says:

There is Andrews and JJ as well.. both averaging over 100 in the past 5 weeks… and both at a good price.. tho JJ has the bye this week.

      • Russty_ says:

Andrews is interesting Lazza… looks very good lately, will rise in price significantly after this week too if he scores ok.
I think I like him over Houli just for the fact that he's young and good, leaves some decent money in the bank too after punting Whitfield.

        • Browncow says:

Very tempted by Andrews and like you say pocket some cash for next upgrade. Was at the Dockers / Brisbane game a week ago and he didn’t lose a contest. Heard he was even better against the Hawks but didn’t see the game.

          • Russty_ says:

He was flying last year too Browncow before he copped that whack to the head from Cameron, really looked like a top 6 defender.

            • Brn says:

Andrews has the potential to score a few 50s or 60s. Not enough of a good sample size this year to consider without taking a massive risk

  20. ojs says:

    thinking cunnington for whitfield

  21. Shake_n_bake says:

Beams out most likely for the year

  22. Justin says:

Malthouse inducted into the Hall of fame. I assume it's for the irreparable damage done to the Carlton football club!

    • Rocksta_ says:

Or for being a 3 time premiership coach, and premiership player?

    • Russty_ says:

The Coach is always the scapegoat who goes down, they should be looking at the competency of their list managers, Saints included.

      • Timmy says:

Except for the case of the recent sacking of Bolton, definitely the coaches fault

      • Justin says:

I agree. Bolton is hopefully not the only one to go. Never did get over the Ratts to Malthouse move though.

        • Lazza says:

Nor did my wife .. she refused to support Carlton whilst Malthouse was there … though that might be more to do with the fact she had the hots for Joel Selwood… I told her that Lyon was in the mix … she said that she would be it … she will file for divorce from Carlton this time around …

    • James says:

Carlton was a mess for 10 yrs before mick went there

      • Blueseum says:

        NOT TRUE
Malthouse started at Carlton in 2013
        2007 15th (coach Dennis Pagan/Ratten)
        2008 11th (coach Ratten)
        2009 7th (coach Ratten)
        2010 8th (coach Ratten)
        2011 5th (coach Ratten)
        2012 10th (coach Ratten)
        2013 6th (Coach Malthouse)
        2014 13th (coach Malthouse)
        2015 18th (coach Malthouse)

It wasn't just that Malthouse reversed the upwards trajectory he also destroyed the confidence of the young players by selling off the experienced KPP's and HARD players thus leaving the young and less physical without support or guidance.
Touhy, Betts, Thornton, Waite, Laidler, Scotland, Henderson, Duigan were all club leaders who were deemed unrequired by Malthouse.
Mad Mick replaced them with superstars like, Kristian Jaksch, Clem Smith, Blaine Boekhurst, Mathew Dick, Mark Whiley, Tom Fields, Brad Walsh, Jaryd Cachia, Troy Menzel, Blain Johnson. You can't blame SoS for those dud picks because Mad Mick was very vocal at the time about how all player recruitment decisions were his alone.

Mick Malthouse is the Stephen Bradbury of AFL coaches, he fell into the coaches position with teams that would have won a premiership without a coach. Every time he had the task of building a team (Footscray and Carlton) he failed dismally. His coaching record for teams that weren't GF contenders before he arrived is 87 wins, 99 losses, 3 Draws
His hall of fame membership is a joke.

  23. Rocksta_ says:

    What’s Bewley’s JS like?
I want to bring him in for Will Hayes this week to generate some cash for trades over the next two weeks, but don’t want to get rid of one problem for another!

    • Brn says:

Looks to be really good JS, but there is still a considerable risk in expecting him to play all byes

      • Brn says:

How many trades do you have?
Im not sure hayes is worth a trade as you would only make $75k ish

      • JR_Damo says:

I disagree, Brn. I have a feeling he'll be one of the unlucky ones for when Stephen Hill and Harley Bennell returns.

  24. DF Swans says:

Hey fellas would appreciate some thoughts on a trade offer I received in draft. Coniglio & Oliver for Macrae and Hurn – am I crazy to consider it?

    Cheers!

    • silversovereign says:

      Hurn is out next week.

    • Derek says:

i would counter the offer with just Cogs for Hurn.

Not much between Oliver and Macrae.

Hurn is better value than Cogs because he is a top 6 defender. Be prepared to pay a premium for them in draft.

    • Derek says:

Do you have Cogs and Oliver?

      • DF Swans says:

Nah I’ve got Macrae and Hurn! Haven’t been able to watch Jmac a lot recently but caught the Eagles game, seems to be in and out of the guts at the moment

        • Derek says:

Hurn is more valuable in draft than Cogs.

I might think about Hurn for Macrae, but don’t think they would go for that.

          • Derek says:

If you trade out Hurn and get Cogs (assume Oliver and McCrae are like for like), say they score the same, but your D6 comes on field and your M7 goes to your bench. Usually your D6 is a lot worse than your M7, that is where you lose the points.

            • DF Swans says:

Think you might be right, Jonas at D6 and Brayshaw/Steele at M7. Had a frustrating week and a little filthy at myself for drafting Macrae over Grundy, think I’ll hold!

              Really appreciate the advice, cheers!

  25. Defying_Madness says:

If I plan to bring in Ryan/ Sicily as my Whitfield replacement would it be smarter to pull the trigger this week if I am good for the bye this week? Gives me an extra trade to use next week which is pretty helpful for upgrades and avoiding donuts.

  26. The Ranger says:

The lack of decent rookies options at the moment is a killer…I usually do three down or at least two down and one up the first week of the byes with the aim of then doing three further upgrades and a luxury corrective over the next two rounds.
Gonna struggle to find three downgrade options.

  27. MAD MIKE says:

    Big Move in the making.

This week trade out Balta and Setterfiled and bring in Gardener and Ham.

Next week trade out Rozee, Hore, Clark and bring in Boak, Sicily and Ryan (all who have had there byes).

Left with 12 trades in the bank and only needing to upgrade Baker to reach full premium.

Thoughts Community? Feedback strongly encouraged here please πŸ™‚

    • Lazza says:

Define Premium? To have 18 premo's in your team at this stage of the year would be an outstanding effort.

      • Agree Lazza I have .18 prems but 5 are sub 500k including some like Danger 499k Marshall and Lobb who are arguably prems because they are forward players Players such as Williams Smith Libba Walsh , though fine players, are a tier below. Bet Hotly hasn't any at R22. I will and for League players Libba types are fine , just not prems. So I have 13 bona fide prems maybe 3 forwards that could be plus 2 pretend prems Smith and Walsh both of whom will go = just saying NDD

      • MAD MIKE says:

LLOYD, HOULI, CRISP, SMITH, HORE, CLARK – BENCH ANSWERTH, BURGESS

KELLY, FYFE, SLOANE, CRIPPS, CONIGLIO, ROCKLIFF, SIDEBOTTOM, BRAYSHAW – BENCH SCOTT, HATLEY, BEWLEY

        GRUNDY, GAWN – BENCH CLARKE

KELLY, DANGERFIELD, CAMERON, WESTHOFF, ROZEE, BAKER – BENCH BALTA, SETTERFIELD

        • JMor says:

Great effort, I'd be upgrading Smith nonetheless to maybe someone like T.Stewart after his R13 bye, plenty of trades you should be looking at getting rid of under performing Rocky/Sidebottom/Brayshaw to a uber premium.

          • MAD MIKE says:

Yeah I will look at upgrading the under performers once I hit full premium. Westhoff and Brayshaw and Smith first go go. Like the Stewart call, pretty consistent and solid down back.

            • They are the right ones even though all three can go big Westhoff and Brayshaw could improve if played in a better role and Smith is probably top 8 def I have him and will keep him Good luck MM

        • Lazza says:

I count 13… None of Smith, Rockliff, Sidebottom, Brayshaw or Westhoff could be considered premos,

        • NoLanguage96 says:

          Westhoff and Brayshaw aren't premiums

          • MAD MIKE says:

You need some PODs we will have to see I guess. You would still expect them to score better than rookies.

            • Lazza says:

The upside MM is that any of your 'PODs' can go big .. fingers crossed… only takes 3 of them to get you to a mega score. Good luck..

    • Derek says:

      Well played. That is good.

      Is Ham playing?

      • MAD MIKE says:

Playing good in the 2's but cant rely on him to play.

Thinking of bringing in Robbie Gray as a Mid/For bench loophole?

    • Rocksta_ says:

      Sounds good. Well done

  28. Shake_n_bake says:

    Hurn out hurts

  29. FlusteredWombat says:

Forgetting byes for a hit second, should I ultimately aim for T. Kelly or Dunkley in my FWD line?

  30. COREYSC says:

    Trade Whitfield to
    Laird? or Ryan?

  31. GloryDays94 says:

Alright Guys, I am a mess atm, absolutely no idea what to do over the byes and injuries are killing my team!

Hurn, Whitfield, Laird, Williams, Smith, Hore (Answerth, Burgess)

Cripps, MacRae, Fyfe, Treloar, M.Crouch, Steele, Walsh, Duursma (Baker, Scott, Bewley)

    Gawn, Goldy (Scott)

Dangerfield, Boak, Heeney, Kelly, Dunkley, Setterfield (Corbett, Young)

    15 trades left….. 54k in the bank

    • Steve says:

      It's not panic time.

Are you playing for League wins or overall Rank?
I'm in a similar position and playing for Leagues only, will only have 16 or 17 on field depending on injuries.
Chances are I am up against someone in my league in a similar position, so makes us roughly even.
I am already sitting in the top 4 of most of my leagues so happy to take a doughnut rather than waste a trade.
I'm not trading this week but looking to trade all 6 over the next two weeks to bring in more keepers.

Just my situation and not making any wild trades.

    • Streaker says:

Whitfield to either T Stewart or L Ryan and bank some cash then upgrade Steele.

      • GloryDays94 says:

Even with 15 trades left? Doing both of those won't leave me with many after I upgrade the rookies I still have on field

        • Brn says:

Not too many upgrades left for you mate. If you are playing for rank go for it and hope you come out with 5 or so trades remaining and can hold on. Otherwise assess your goals

  32. Dan says:

Who would you trade in for Whitfield out of: Sicily or Ryan?

  33. JR_Damo says:

Hey guys just want to say thanks for listening to the podcast! Apologies for the delay in responses on my behalf, we had technical issues and had to talk to each other over the phone so sometimes it was hard to each other, and it meant that most if not all of my responses were delayed somewhat as a result.

We will be better next week, and good luck for the byes!

    • Libba says:

No need to apologise Damo! Always a great podcast to listen to

      • Brn says:

You do a great job and supply the most quality podcast on a topic some of us are so very passionate about. Ranked in the top 100, and have finished top 20 overall before too. Your insights are appreciated.

  34. NoLanguage96 says:

Whitfield to Houli – I'm not thinking about it too heavily I'm just gonna pull the trigger on the bloke – he's racking them up like they are going out of fashion. Leaves me with this team…

B – Houli, WIlliams, Laird, Sicily, Salem, Smith (Answerth, Lockhart)
M – Neale, Macrae, Cripps, Oliver, M Crouch, Libba, Stack, Duursma (Atkins, Scott, Hayes)
    R – Gawn, Goldy (Sweet)
F – Kelly, Danger, Marshall, Heeney, Baker, Moore (Setterfield, Young)

    16 trades, 30k bank

Thinking of going Libba to Cunnington and Moore up to Walters but need some rookies to downgrade to (Dylan Clarke etc). Any feedback or thoughts would be great community!

Hope you're all ready for the byes xo

  35. TommyC99 says:

Hey lads, so have to offload whitfield this week. I still don't have Lloyd so that would have been the ideal switch but with only 15 playing next week i dont think its an option (haven't included hayes or ROB but have included Burgess and young even though they are a good chance of missing).

Do i trade in someone with this bye ie Sicily or Ryan which leaves me with 18 this week but i'll be at 16 players playing before i bring in the likes of bewley and Bont next week? or do i trade in someone who has the round 14 bye i.e cogs, Houli, Dusty? Feel like only 18 this week is quite light on but long term i see sicily and Ryan being better picks

    • Ja191 says:

I’d go sic and you may want to go early on the likes of a Bewely/gardner eg this week to give you more trades next week if needed

      • Brn says:

Second going early, probably on Bewley. He is ready built so its now or never for his afl career – they will want games into him.

Moreover, Ryan is the best choice if your backline is in need of a gamble. With his ceiling he could easily have a purple patch run of 130+ scores. Sicily will consistently average the ton for you, and is the choice I have gone for.
        How lucky do you feel?

        • Brn says:

And yes 18 on field this week is good enough considering the premium outs. Whitfield to sicily, ryan or laird (?) would be my move

  36. Rocksta_ says:

How many weeks is Hurn expected to miss? Is Rotham a chance to replace him?

  37. Rocksta_ says:

Why is it that everybody feels Bewley’s JS is good? He hasn’t exactly set the world on fire, has he

  38. Brn says:

Mitch Duncan so underrated in comparison to Dangerfield.
Gets the job done and have had him all year. Where's his fishing show?

  39. Holty01 says:

If Sloane doesn’t play this week I’m very tempted to trade him out. Last time the Crows said someone is 50/50 to play they ended up missing 3 weeks and might even miss this week again. But the scariest thing is the rd14 bye which I would think if Sloane doesn’t play, there is a fair chance he will miss next week as well which means we don’t see him until rd15. It could be a long waitπŸ€”

    • dontblushbaby says:

IMO, with your rank I would be trading , some who are playing for leagues will keep him though

      • Holty01 says:

I know. I’m in some money leagues this year and normally holding is exactly what I’d do but thinking I’m happy to sacrifice the cash leagues to give myself a chance for overall. Guess I’ll wait and see the damage with team selections tomorrow night.

    • TOPHAWK1 says:

Hi Holty. I think you need to make some moves mate IMO. (Not that my advice counts for much with my mediocre ranking). However, if I was ranked 27th, you have to go all out and play very aggressively in order to push for the $50K. You have Whitfield and Sloane. Both need to be punted this week. Get it over and done with. You have Hurn also which really complicates things for you. I reckon you could turn Whitfield into Sicily/Laird/Ryan or even Andrews type and Sloane needs to turn into Josh Kelly or Stephen Coniglio. It would take enormous pressure off your team as Hurn will still be sitting on your bench this week which is then backed up with his bye. I guess you could pick the premo defender based around your bye structure to help get through round 13 and 14. Whatever you choose to do Holty, hope you you make all the right moves and snaffle the cash!! Cheers mate. TH

      • silversovereign says:

Agree with TH. Whitfield has to go. Although Sicily and Ryan both have the bye this week. Laird would be a same bye swap. Or Houli is you don’t have him. Sloane is a wait and see.

      • Holty01 says:

Thanks Hawk. Radio today said Sloane still a chance of playing. Not exactly sure how that is possible but will wait and see.
Those trades you mentioned are identical to what I was thinking but Laird suits my bye structure better as I have my side ready for the byes and replacing those 2 with other rd14 bye players makes sense.

  40. Blue says:

I'm $5k short for a Whitfield to Lloyd trade.
Should I settle for a trade down to Laird or trade down to a second rate rookie to get Lloyd?

  41. Taz says:

Anyone heard about M Hore at all? Please tell me he's going to be playing this week.

    • silversovereign says:

Saw him having kick to kick with Hannan outside the main group but looks ok. He’s a chance, but Melbourne likely to bring May back this week as well.

    • silversovereign says:

Latest afl article re lever says Salem and Hore are set to return! πŸ˜ƒ

    • DavidC says:

Can Hore, Lever and May play in the same backline? Salem to come back in as well. Will they make that many changes?

      • Holty01 says:

Hore has arguably been one of their best players so think he would be very unfortunate to be dropped.

    • Russty_ says:

I'm telling you he's going to be playing this week Taz πŸ™‚

  42. DavidC says:

Astbury and Ellis out for the tigers. Could be a debut on the cards for Naish.

  43. KSinny says:

Anyone know what happened to Lockhart? Havnt heard anything about him.

  44. silversovereign says:

    Grundy will play πŸ˜ƒ

  45. Lekdog says:

Matt Owies to play for the Blues $102K Fwd/Mid

    • freeadvice says:

That competes with the front bar Lek. I admire your gumption but taking them on is like the flea fighting the rottwieler. I reckon that you'd probably double your audience if you went up against a softer target. Post front Bar is the perfect time

  47. silversovereign says:

Stocker out. I don’t have him but plenty will be relying on him you’d think.

  48. KSinny says:

Sloane not out atm so fingers crossed he isnt a late out.

  49. Russty_ says:

Sloane and Crouch playing..happy days but Stocker out injured.
Make that Sloane…maybe playing lol, could still be a late out apparently., for Greenwood.

    • TBone_9 says:

Not as much carnage as I thought phew… still sweating on Sunday teams tomorrow though. Looks like a lot of possible ins for Melbourne too

      • Russty_ says:

Hey TBone, at least Hore's named on the field, that helps me πŸ™‚
        Who you sweating on mate?

        • TBone_9 says:

Yeah didn’t notice that before mate! With him and Baker being named on field I feel a lot better about final team selections. Was nervous about Baker after I saw that Stocker was out, but it looks like I will be able to field 19 this week. How many you got on field this week right now Russty?

  50. Brn says:

Hayes worth trading. Only 15 trades left

    • redherringfc says:

Im still holding, but only because I can’t get enough out of him to make it worthwhile.

Pretty sure next week I’ll trade out Hayes, Scott and any other spud, non-playing rookie so I can bring in 3 replicas (or god forbid, 2 new spuds and the Hoff)

  51. Ja191 says:

Stocker the only week I actually need you

  52. TommyC99 says:

Stocker out hurts as i now only have 17 playing, so even if i get 18 i'm gonna have to take Burgess' score *shudder.*

So i have Whitfield and Hurn warming the pine, was thinking hold Hurn and trade Whtfield. But only options i like (excluding round 13 bye players) are Bont, Ryan, Sicily and Merett, who are all not playing this week. I could just go for a Lloyd or T Kelly but i am already struggling next week with 15 (including young and Burgess who could get dropped, but im not including Bewley and possibly Gardner)

That leaves me the following options: Cogs, Sloane, Cunnington.

Are there any rookies worth bringing in that are playing this week? Cunnington looks the only decent pick out of those 3.

Any help would be great. Suggestions of round 14 bye players also would be great (currently have Crouch, Laird, Cameron and Williams). As i mentioned above i could just bite the bullet and grab Lloyd but i could be struggling next week.

    • Russty_ says:

I'd probs go for Sicily Tommy.

      • TommyC99 says:

Hey Russty! so you would basically sacrifice a zero this week? If i want 18 this week its either Lloyd or Cunnington i think.

        • Russty_ says:

Yeah probably Tommy cause you said you were struggling with maybe 15 next week?
If you have 17 this week, chances are many other guys will have 20…so you'll lose anyway.
Reckon you need to try and get 18 on next week.

    • blues says:

If you trade Whitfield out, you’ll end up trading him back jn

      • Russty_ says:

Is it worth holding 565k for 6 to 8 weeks though?

        • COREYSC says:

Yeah exactly if he can somehow cover yeah but surely not I think it’s a must trade you can’t afford to have him on your bench for 6-8 weeks maybe more who knows with GWS

  53. hedski says:

The byes can get fckd, I thought I kept an eye on them but looks like they'll screw me over again.
Stuff it might just fill my team with cats, tempted to bring in the two Toms this week and next week be damned.

    • Russty_ says:

Just make you, me and your Dog some Beer Martinis mate and everything will be ok πŸ˜‰

    • Dingus says:

I hear ya man, planned well and backfired hard…. filled my team with cats now also, all 5 of em, cant make it any worse lol

    • TRIGGA_HAPPY says:

I planned last year and got injuries – got screwed.

So this year I went with "stuff the byes"! 😜

    • The Ranger says:

Yeah you can add me to the fck the byes crew.
I'm just giving Rd.13 away and concentrating on the other two.

  54. Bells says:

Thanks to whoever it was that recommended I trade out Lachie Whitfield as he was going to lose 150k.
    He didn't.
    Traded him back in.
    Broken collarbone.
    Ruinous season carries on.

    • Rick Grimes says:

I suggested that. And did it. Got Fyfe in at a very cheap price. Missed that 170 but have avoided the carnage. Mistake was trading him back in. This game is about sell high buy low

  55. GloryDays94 says:

Do I trade Whitfield to someone like Lloyd or Hold?
I have 15 trades left And 4 rookies on field to upgrade.
Bye structure is fine, should have 18 all 3 weeks.

    • Saritz says:

Its an interesting one. On one hand 15 trades left with just 4 premo's to get in is plenty. However, because of the byes, a Whitfield 4 week injury is essentially just 3 games he'll be missing for. So given you have set yourself up to get through the byes with 18 each week, I would lean towards a hold and save the trade. With everyone feverishly rushing to finish their teams, Whitfield will be traded out heavily and could be a POD for you in the later part of the year!

      • GloryDays94 says:

The problem is will it be only 4 weeks… GWS love to hold their players back.

        • Tony says:

I’d say not, generally takes 6 weeks to heal from surgery let alone how long it will take to build strength back up. He’s more likely to miss 8 weeks than 4

          • Russty_ says:

True dat!…how many times when you're looking on the injury list each week, the same guy with the same amount of weeks to go as the week before?
            I'd trade him out.

  56. Bells says:

Patch – Herculean effort from you on this POD. Most improved AFL broadcaster 2019 is in the bag.
    Hats off.

  57. TRIGGA_HAPPY says:

Naish gets a gig 2mrw night.

Hopefully he can bring his VFL form to the big stage.

  58. Daz says:

So why is Houli scoring so big? Any tigs fans fill me in, is he taking all the kick ins? hes avg'd 85 his for like 8 seasons and now hes busting out 20 ppg extra?

  59. Lekdog says:

We are live! Let's chat #supercoach byes! https://www.twitch.tv/lekdoggames

  60. Stacky23 says:

thoughts on JJ as a sneaky pod, less than 0.5% of teams and has proven that he can score pretty well in the past , worried my team is too generic and with 20 trades can afford to take a risk on a defender, also considering Blakely or Milera

  61. Dan says:

I had planned to cash ROB in this week to fund my bye trades. Do you think this is still the way to go? Or hold now and hope he plays next week (currently 17 playing next week if Stocker misses again)?

  62. Sharkmove_King says:

I'm 3 short before trading (damn you Hurn & Whitfield). I can make 3 trades to get 18 on the park but I'll have to bring in a rookie which is pretty bare.

I think Rotham will be named (with Hurn out) but good chance will be gone when Hurns back.

So should I go blind on Naish? Or go with Rotham? (assuming named)

    • silversovereign says:

Depends how many trades you have and how much you need the $60k odd that Rotham will increase. I probably wouldn’t go for it and definitely wouldn’t go blind on naish.

    • DavidC says:

Both might only play 1 week. Naish might go back out for Ellis next week. Did you get Baker? I decided to go him even though he has had a price rise.

    • Russty_ says:

Maybe you just need to take your medicine this week Sharkmove, not worth bringing in rookies with no js

    • BomberKnighta says:

Had same Qs and undecided too. Looking for other options if i can as need JS more than points right now.

    • Sharkmove_King says:

Yes fellas I wouldn't usually get a rookie before he has played but Richmonds rookies have been awesome this year and this kids been carving up the Magoo's.

Also, I reckon in the back half of the season JS of rookies becomes less important and starting price more important. As your team becomes full premo your less likely to need rookies and you're more unlikely to cash them in as trades from here on in are injury trades.

Just my take fellas, anyway I went Baker haha Good luck all!

  63. NoLanguage96 says:

Whitfield to Cunnington via Duursma DPP

    • Ktfg says:

How's that trade work? You trading out dursma too?

      • NoLanguage96 says:

I had Duursma in the mids. Swapped him to the backline and went Whitfield to Cunnington

        • Ktfg says:

How though? I don't understand. Whitfield is defender. And cunnington is a mid. I'm sorry I'm confused lol

          • Ja191 says:

When you trade someone you can switch dual position players into their other position by clicking the s on the team page. Eg Duursma has dpp defender/midfield – by trading whitfield you can fill whitfields vacant spot by switching duursma to defence with the s(switch) and trade whitfield to someone in the midfield if that makes any sense lol

  64. DavidC says:

To all those bringing in Houli, Richmond dropped Broad and have Astbury out injured. Geelong have quite a tall forward line. Houli might get a different role this week.

  65. DavidC says:

Yeo didn't board the plane to Sydney, might miss with a calf injury.

  66. Pete says:

Anyone know why Bailey Scott is not getting a game

    • hedski says:

Because he hangs on the opposite side of the ground as far away from the ball as possible.
I'm trying to work out the best way to punt him.

    • demonspud says:

Was concussed a few weeks back and been trying to recover, stats say he is a bit ball shy currently. He might become DLarke for me next week if his VFL form continues, just really want good bench cover from now on.

  67. ojs says:

rothams been named. should i be trading him in due to total lack of other options i know his js is terrible

  68. manolaki says:

Option 1 – O'Brien to Bines and Libba to J Kelly
Option 2 – O'Brien to Bines and Scott (North) to Bewley

    Thoughts?

  69. Emily says:

To use the VC loophole can you use a bye round player?

  70. sick dog says:

Thoughts on Connor Blakely as an extremely sneaky pod
