Who’s Your Captain? – Round 9
I really hope you have a non-playing rookie this week that isn’t Patrick Bines because the Eagles playing on Friday night really puts you in a tight spot.
Top VICE CAPTAIN Options –
Friday Night vs West Coast – AVG vs Team: 100.8
Averaging 132.3 over his last three games against the Eagles, and 100.8 over his career, Maxy is a good vice captaincy option this week. Whether he comes up against Hickey or Vardy shouldn’t be an issue, and neither should the impending the return of Brayden Preuss. Scored 156 last time these two teams met, in the actual season, we won’t mention the preliminary final.
Early Saturday vs St Kilda – AVG vs Team: 104.0
You could almost call Brodie a captaincy option as well. Gawn into Grundy might be a popular combo this week, but what if I told you his average against the Saints isn’t actually that great? Most of Grundy’s scores against the Saints have been in the 95-115 range. You’d need a higher score than even the higher end of that scale to even consider him. A good VC option though, gives you the option to flick the switch if he goes big.
Saturday vs Adelaide – AVG vs Team: 80.0
Has never scored more than 110 against the Crows in his career, but if you put the royal blue armband on him you might get a nice surprise. Crows don’t usually tag, you have to back in that he’ll more than likely get first use at the centre bounces with Stefan Martin going up against the Crows inexperienced, in comparison, ruck department.
VICE CAPTAIN Smokey –
Friday Night vs Melbourne – AVG vs Team: 72.4
Has lived up to his nickname this year, but appears to be getting back on track with four of his past five scores 114 or better with a 132 in that mix. The Yo-Yo is a guy who can go big on his day and is a decent chance to pump out a massive score against the Dees on the Eagles homedeck.
TOP CAPTAIN Options –
Saturday vs Western Bulldogs – AVG vs Team: 108.1
For those with SuperCoach Gold, you may have noticed that Dangerfield is projected to score 88 this week for whatever reason. I don’t really understand how score projections work, but I think that projection is wrong. This is a guy who bullies the Bulldogs in recent times. 118, 173, 151 in his last three games. Could the Danger we all hoped to be gracing our forward lines this year return with another monster score?
Saturday Night vs Essendon – AVG vs Team: 113.2
If it wasn’t for his injury affected score, Fyfe would have the 2nd highest average in SuperCoach this year. Has been super consistent with most of his scores 124+ A solid captain option which you can rely on week in/week out.
Sunday vs Gold Coast – AVG vs Team: 104.6
Had a down game in the Showdown last week and will want to atone for his poor performance. The Suns don’t traditionally play well at the Adelaide Oval, and so Boak could be in for a very good, captain worthy score. Scored a 125 in Port’s only encounter last year.
Sunday Twilight vs Carlton – AVG vs Team: 118.2
Kelly scored a 205 against Carlton last year. I don’t know if I need to say much else.
Sunday Twilight vs Greater Western Sydney – AVG vs Team: 90.8
If I didn’t mention him specifically for the second week in a row there would be some serious questions asked of me by the inner sanctum. He’s playing GWS, a team he doesn’t usually play all that well against. Does he get tagged by Matt de Boer? Probably. Does it bother him? Who knows. Scored 122 last time these two teams met. His highest ever score against the Giants. Scored 70 and 69 in his two games against the Giants before that.
CAPTAIN Smokey –
Saturday vs Western Bulldogs – AVG vs Team: 102.5
If you don’t go with Patrick Dangerfield, maybe the new go-to man in the middle for the Cats is your answer. Looks to be entering a rich vein of form and has a three round average of 122.7.
