Who’s Your Captain? – Round 9

Published by Damo on

I really hope you have a non-playing rookie this week that isn’t Patrick Bines because the Eagles playing on Friday night really puts you in a tight spot.

Top VICE CAPTAIN Options –

Max Gawn

Friday Night vs West Coast – AVG vs Team: 100.8

Averaging 132.3 over his last three games against the Eagles, and 100.8 over his career, Maxy is a good vice captaincy option this week. Whether he comes up against Hickey or Vardy shouldn’t be an issue, and neither should the impending the return of Brayden Preuss. Scored 156 last time these two teams met, in the actual season, we won’t mention the preliminary final.

Brodie Grundy

Early Saturday vs St Kilda – AVG vs Team: 104.0

You could almost call Brodie a captaincy option as well. Gawn into Grundy might be a popular combo this week, but what if I told you his average against the Saints isn’t actually that great? Most of Grundy’s scores against the Saints have been in the 95-115 range. You’d need a higher score than even the higher end of that scale to even consider him. A good VC option though, gives you the option to flick the switch if he goes big.

Lachie Neale

Saturday vs Adelaide – AVG vs Team: 80.0

Has never scored more than 110 against the Crows in his career, but if you put the royal blue armband on him you might get a nice surprise. Crows don’t usually tag, you have to back in that he’ll more than likely get first use at the centre bounces with Stefan Martin going up against the Crows inexperienced, in comparison, ruck department.

Elliot Yeo

Friday Night vs Melbourne – AVG vs Team: 72.4

Has lived up to his nickname this year, but appears to be getting back on track with four of his past five scores 114 or better with a 132 in that mix. The Yo-Yo is a guy who can go big on his day and is a decent chance to pump out a massive score against the Dees on the Eagles homedeck.

Patrick Dangerfield

Saturday vs Western Bulldogs – AVG vs Team: 108.1

For those with SuperCoach Gold, you may have noticed that Dangerfield is projected to score 88 this week for whatever reason. I don’t really understand how score projections work, but I think that projection is wrong. This is a guy who bullies the Bulldogs in recent times. 118, 173, 151 in his last three games. Could the Danger we all hoped to be gracing our forward lines this year return with another monster score?

Nat Fyfe

Saturday Night vs Essendon – AVG vs Team: 113.2

If it wasn’t for his injury affected score, Fyfe would have the 2nd highest average in SuperCoach this year. Has been super consistent with most of his scores 124+ A solid captain option which you can rely on week in/week out.

Travis Boak

Sunday vs Gold Coast – AVG vs Team: 104.6

Had a down game in the Showdown last week and will want to atone for his poor performance. The Suns don’t traditionally play well at the Adelaide Oval, and so Boak could be in for a very good, captain worthy score. Scored a 125 in Port’s only encounter last year.

Josh Kelly

Sunday Twilight vs Carlton – AVG vs Team: 118.2

Kelly scored a 205 against Carlton last year. I don’t know if I need to say much else.

Patrick Cripps

Sunday Twilight vs Greater Western Sydney – AVG vs Team: 90.8

If I didn’t mention him specifically for the second week in a row there would be some serious questions asked of me by the inner sanctum. He’s playing GWS, a team he doesn’t usually play all that well against. Does he get tagged by Matt de Boer? Probably. Does it bother him? Who knows. Scored 122 last time these two teams met. His highest ever score against the Giants. Scored 70 and 69 in his two games against the Giants before that.

CAPTAIN Smokey –

Tim Kelly

Saturday vs Western Bulldogs – AVG vs Team: 102.5

If you don’t go with Patrick Dangerfield, maybe the new go-to man in the middle for the Cats is your answer. Looks to be entering a rich vein of form and has a three round average of 122.7.

Gawn into Fyfe for me

Nick · 15/05/2019 at 17:35

Grundy into T.Kelly or Boak for me.

TommyC99 · 15/05/2019 at 17:37

Danger or Grundy into fyfe for me. Surely grundy monsters Marshall in the ruck? Although this could be the week danger gets back into form.

Nick · 15/05/2019 at 17:47

Hope your right about Danger Tommy but not game enough to take that risk.

ThatsGoldJerry · 15/05/2019 at 18:35

Gawn into J Kelly for me 🙂

COREYSC · 15/05/2019 at 19:11

Grundy into Fyfe this week

MajorWeakness · 15/05/2019 at 19:25

I think Max is a bit risky after the way that the eagles rucks totally dismantled him late last year.
grundy to fyffe for me

Daniel · 15/05/2019 at 19:28

DESPERATION!!! Do i need cash or players? Help wanted
Comments are much appreciated

Option 2: same as above except bring in Dunkley instead of Macrae, bank will then be $63,100,
Option 3: ask for help from the community.
Thanks in advance gang

    Daniel · 15/05/2019 at 19:31

Oh, Grundy into Fyfe for me. Safe as houses

    redherringfc · 15/05/2019 at 21:33

You probably need the mid, so option 1.

    Russty_ · 15/05/2019 at 21:40

Maybe trade Angus out for Dunkley, then you'll have a mid/fwd swinger.
Maybe someone out for Stocker also.
Doubt if Taylor keeps his spot for long if at all.

Rocksta_ · 15/05/2019 at 19:34

Don’t think we need to go further than Grundy this week. I’m putting the VC on him and totally expect him to monster the Saints.

    JR_Damo · 15/05/2019 at 21:13

I agree. I think Grundy should be a safe bet, but VC Grundy into C Fyfe for me this week. I can use Chris Burgess if I need to.

      Browncow · 15/05/2019 at 23:38

Yep. Grundy into perma cap Lachlan Schultz or the other Docker.

MajorWeakness · 15/05/2019 at 19:50

Don't forget that Bines is useless for loopholing this week. Maybe keep Ross for a week if you want to loophole

LordDeb · 15/05/2019 at 20:22

Groundy into Kelly is fix<img src="https://s04.flagcounter.com/mini/rzN/bg_FFFFFF/txt_dddddd/border_ffffff/flags_0/" width="1"/>

Lazza · 15/05/2019 at 20:48

At this point I’m going with Fyfe into Cripps

Cats2019 · 15/05/2019 at 20:52

Bontempelli, Macrae or Fyfe?

    Cats2019 · 15/05/2019 at 20:53

Which would you trade in this week?

      Lazza · 15/05/2019 at 20:59

Bont, cos I already have the other two.. 😁 .. my order off selection was Macrae -> Fyfe -> Bont if that helps..

      JR_Damo · 15/05/2019 at 21:14

      Macrae or Fyfe

Derek · 15/05/2019 at 21:26

The only non player I have to loop is Bines, and he plays the first game, so unless Scrimshaw or MCrouch don’t play, I might not have a VC option this week.

    Russty_ · 15/05/2019 at 21:33

Hey mate, I've read Scrimshaw had a headache and Crouch should be good to go…who will you whack it on if it's C only?

      Derek · 15/05/2019 at 23:42

      Grundy is the safe bet.

I do like Merrett vs Fremantle and Rocky against Suns. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Hurn put up a half decent VC option on Friday night against a very poor kicking Melbourne

        silversovereign · 16/05/2019 at 12:01

I am seriously contemplating Grundy into rocky Derek. Everyone is going big against the suns but knowing rocky he will probably get concussed on 14.

        Russty_ · 16/05/2019 at 12:59

Looks like Crouch is in doubt now, wait and see if he gets on the plane to Brissy.

          Lazza · 16/05/2019 at 13:31

Oh no !!… I already have 2 Mids who wont be playing – Ross and Scott and possibly Atkins too … might not have MID bench cover this week

            Russty_ · 16/05/2019 at 21:11

Can't you trade your way out of it Lazza?…no sense keeping Ross.

COREYSC · 15/05/2019 at 22:01

Advice on my team community?
Not sure if I need to paint the fence, double downgrade or just hold trades?
26 Trades and 233K In Bank
Lloyd, Z.Williams, B.Smith, Hore, Duursma, Clark (Answeth, Burgess)
Cripps, Neale, Fyfe, Macrae, M.Crouch, B.Crouch, Walsh, Gibbons (Atkins, Hayes, Scott)
Grundy, Gawn (Bines)
Dangerfield, T.Kelly, Dunkley, Heeney, Drew, Setterfield (Parker, Corbett)

redherringfc · 16/05/2019 at 06:32

Parker has a break even of 55. I don’t think he’ll make that. To fix that you need to go one up and one down.

I’d look at Atkins for Stocker and Parker to Laird, by swinging Burgess forward.

    COREYSC · 17/05/2019 at 20:19

    Cheers mate

redherringfc · 16/05/2019 at 06:41

Do the dogs have anyone that can stop Hawkins?

Playing at GMHBABCDEFG stadium, bucket loads of “positive affirmation” down there.

Throwing the C on him is risky, but I can VC him into Cripps (which in itself is not ideal)

Holty01 · 16/05/2019 at 06:56

Grundy is the sensible vc choice but I keep going back to Neale. Hmmmm🤔

Trades · 16/05/2019 at 08:44

Rocky or Dunkley in?

Hey Damo or Lekdog what time will the cheat sheet drop boys?

    JR_Damo · 16/05/2019 at 20:44

Did you get to it?! Statty Matty dropped it this morning!

Ken · 16/05/2019 at 12:54

Who would you get in josh Kelly or Macrae first ?

The Ranger · 16/05/2019 at 15:16

Grundy into Fyfe for me.

TOPHAWK1 · 16/05/2019 at 15:52

Tom Rockliff into Josh Kelly for me.💪👊

Binga · 16/05/2019 at 15:53

Thoughts on Walsh out Sloane in?

    Russty_ · 16/05/2019 at 21:10

Sounds all right Binga although I'll be keeping Walsh a bit longer.

Placey · 16/05/2019 at 17:22

VC Grundy/Danger into C Merrett

Lekdog · 16/05/2019 at 19:00

    Casper · 16/05/2019 at 19:47

any news on how long cogs will be sidelined???

      Russty_ · 16/05/2019 at 21:10

In selection night they said "it hasn't gotten any better in the last 2 weeks and he isn't certain for next week either"

Russty_ · 16/05/2019 at 19:25

Gawn with no Preuss against Vardy and no Hickey, he's my VC lock, hopefully all I'll need this week 🙂

    Russty_ · 16/05/2019 at 21:08

Still a bit of a worry they've both included Hickey and Preuss on their E lists though Neil, could be playing Possum with eachother?

Lenny · 16/05/2019 at 23:32

Binga · 17/05/2019 at 09:55

Thoughts pls Walsh and Cogs out to Rocky and Sloane??

    Lenny · 18/05/2019 at 12:13

    Walsh to T Kelly/Sloane/Dunkley

josh · 17/05/2019 at 18:50

Hickey comes into the west coast team to play duel ruck with vardy.
Does this affect the Gawn VC????
