Melbourne VS Brisbane: JLT Review

Filed in Supercoach by on 09/03/2019 • views: 7230

It was almost similar scenes in the second JLT match of today, with a busy first half with 18 goals scored, but then the second half went in opposite quarters, with the Lions locking down the Demons and scoring well in the third, and the Demons doing the same to the Lions in the fourth. In the end the Lions came away with the close win, kicking 16.8 104 to Melbourne’s 15.7 97.

Notable absentees

Melbourne: Jack Viney, Nathan Jones, Jeff Garlett, Jake Lever, Jake Melksham

Brisbane: Dayne Zorko, Marcus Adams

INJURIES: Jay Kennedy-Harris (leg/knee), James Harmes (finger), Archie Smith (throat)

Max Gawn – RUC – $692,100 – 15 hitouts with 12 disposals and 3 marks in the first half. Finished with 22 disposals and 32 hitouts. Looks like he’s got the solo ruck spot on lockdown for now, so grab him if you can afford him.

Michael Hibberd – DEF – $398,700 – 13 disposals and 5 rebound 50’s to start the first half and finished with 23 disposals and 9 rebound 50’s. Interesting prospect, he averaged 99.2 SCPoints in 2017, if he can get back to that sort of scoring then he’s a bargain.

Christian Petracca – MID/FWD – $442,600 – Led the Demons at the half with 16 disposals, also had 4 tackles and a goal. Quiet second half to finish with 20 disposals, 3 marks, 6 tackles and a goal.

Angus Brayshaw – MID – $526,900 – Kicked a goal in the first half with 13 disposals, 2 clearances and 6 tackles. Kicked 2 more goals in the second half, including one on the 4th quarter siren to finish with 3 goals, 26 disposals, 4 marks, 11 tackles and 3 clearances.

Clayton Oliver – MID – $622,600 – Handball heavy again, 15 first half disposals with 10 handballs, along with 4 clearances. Had a game high 32 disposals (21 handballs), 4 marks, 5 tackles and 7 clearances.

Tom McDonald – FWD – $529,800 – Booted 1.1 in the first half, along with 7 disposals, 2 clearances and 3 hitouts. Only added 1 behind in the second half to have 15 disposals, 2 marks and 3 tackles. Not huge on this pick at this price.

Marty Hore – DEF – $117,300 – Just 5 disposals at the half, better in the second half to finish with 16 disposals, 2 marks and 6 1%eres. 92% ToG is an encouraging sign.

Sam Weideman – FWD – $242,900 – Kicked a goal in the first half, along with 5 disposals and 3 marks. Ended with 12 disposals and 6 marks along with his goal.

Lachie Neale – MID – $607,300 – Led the ground with 18 disposals in the first half with 5 clearances. Kicked the ball even less than Oliver, with just 2 kicks for the game (one a shot at goal) to finish with a team high 27 disposals, 3 tackles and 5 clearances.

Jarryd Lyons – MID – $502,000 – Showed his skills up forward with 2 first half goals, along with 13 disposals, 3 tackles and 2 clearances. Added 2 goals in succession in the third quarter to end up with 4 goals for the game, along with 26 disposals, 6 clearances and 5 tackles. Intriguing option I went for last year that didn’t pan out, but a change of scenery might give him that little boost he needs.

Alex Witherden – DEF – $455,000 – 12 disposals with 4 rebound 50’s in the first half and ended with 21 disposals for the day.

Harris Andrews – DEF – $480,100 – Had 10 disposals with 7 intercept possessions in the first half with 8 1%ers. Ended with 21 disposals, 10 intercept possessions, 8 marks and 12 1%ers. Had a real purple patch last year prior to getting injured, will be a POD if you go in that direction and take another gamble on him

Lincoln McCarthy – FWD – $247,500 – 9 disposals and 4 inside 50’s in the first half and finished with 19 disposals, 2 marks and 9 inside 50’s.

Stef Martin – RUC – $573,700 – With Archie Smith out battled against Gawn most of the day. Had 23 disposals, 3 marks, 6 clearances and 16 hitouts.

Rhys Mathieson – MID/FWD – $365,000 – Played up forward a bit and kicked 1.2 in the first half with 13 disposals and 3 clearances. Didn’t add to the scoreboard in the second half but ended with 23 disposals, 4 clearances and 5 tackles. Still loves throwing the head back.

There were a few tempting options on display for me in this one, Community, anyone from Melbourne or Brisbane that caught your eye?

Liking Harris Andrews if he stays as a defender, could be a top 6, Angus Brayshaw looks great so far this year too.

    • Patch says:

I love the kid and am fanging to get him in. Not entirely sure he'll be top six – top 10 likely, but I reckon he'd need to be taking some kick-ins to boost him to a top six average.

What a jet brayshaw. Looking to continue his form from second half of 2018 season.

Do you often wonder .. watch a game of footy and think … gee that kid played a top game … and you go to SC and he was shit …
anyway… I’m now reorganising my team with Gawn as a ,ist have and seriously considering Brayshaw…
looks like Preuss is out and anyone who didn’t see Viney walk (limp) off the ground … forget him … he has unresolved issues..

  5. JohnDJ59 says:

Vandemberg $283,400 might be an option for my fwd line.

  6. Redd says:

Ive had brayshaw in sll season n love the kid but 1 B Crouch has really put some pressure on for that m5 spot!

    • Russty_ says:

I'd still stay with Angus Redd, B.Crouch has the injury history nightmare.
