PODCAST: Our terrible, awful, no good, very bad first teams

Filed in Supercoach by on 24/01/2019 • views: 9745

“When it’s early in the season and you don’t care for future woes/Anything goes!”

It’s not very well known, but the 1934 Cole Porter musical Anything Goes! was actually about a sailor picking his Supercoach side early in the season, without a care in the world.

Lek and Patch haven’t quite channelled that particular musical (because they’re uncultured cretins who haven’t seen it), but they’re captured the vibe of the thing.

They’ve thrown together their first* drafts for season 2019 and have released a podcast to show you, community, how not to pick a Supercoach side.

They talk locks, speculative picks and downright awful selections – including Patch’s four mid-pricer backline – to kick it off with a bang.

And if you haven’t already – get around the Trade Planner from Community legend Chicko.

I went from a kind of decent team to a very very stupid team indeed today, with the hopes of deceiving everyone and getting a huge leg up whilst saving heaps of dosh for probably trading in decent players when all that goes horribly wrong!
It'll probably still end up as a fairly boring starting team though eventually.

    • Lekdog says:

Think they all will end up boring Rust, it's the smart move

    • GloryDays94 says:

Better being safe and more boring than going way to risky and completely ruining the season

    • Richard says:

      Guys join 392941 … Avg score 2120 plus….. 2-3 years experience preferred

  2. Godd_Toldstein says:

Feeling confident that I've got the right line up to win it all!

  3. Godd_Toldstein says:

Wondering how miles can be compared to cog. Cog was in a top team, with a top midfeild that helped around him. Miles is going to a side that will get pumped everyweek

    • Lekdog says:

Fair, Cogs had three year's of 90+ while Miles has had 3 year's of 89.9+

Cogs is better no doubt, has a higher ceiling and set himself up as a keeper going into last year. But no one thought he'd be a keeper, everyone thought he'd be a safe stepping stone, that's the similarity to Miles. He'll be a safe stepping stone, he just down't have the upside that Cogs has proven he has.

      • JohnDJ59 says:

I had Cogs down as a keeper, in that I wanted to keep him and was hoping that it would be worth it.

      • Daveh says:

Nonsense. The bloke had a 105 season to his name, there was plenty who had him as M8 planned. To say they both have had 3 90+ seasons sarcastically if extremely silly.

Miles can easily average around the 85-90 mark in which case he is a slow burn and not worth it.

  4. fcabel says:

You had me at Pixies. Cheers lads. Great pod

  5. Rivo says:

Good discussion on the POD Lek & Patch.

So many options this time of year, my brain is mush.

Starting team is taking on the Cox curse – Grundy & Gawn, πŸ”’. That means less premium across one line.

    My dimlema this presents:

    Option 1 – Simpson & Yeo?
    Option 2 – Witherden & Macrae?

    • PJ8 says:

      Mixture of each for me:
      Yeo & Witherden
      Use extra money elsewhere

    • Patch says:

Taking on the Cox Curse – don't say we didn't warn you! Such a huge cash setback as well – I can't see myself going the duo.

As someone with Witherdon and Yeo I'm a bit torn – especially how much I love Macrae – but I reckon Option 1 at this stage

      • Rivo says:

Curse will be broken Patch. I’m leaning to Option 2 but genuinely wavering. Bring on the pre season already.

        • Rivo says:

I should also add that Witherden/ Simpson are my current D3 (have Lloyd & Laird). Yeo was M4. Macrae would become M1.

    • Finnius says:

      Witherden and Macrae

  6. Sam says:

Thoughts on armitage 420k mid fwd.
    It's either him and Gawn
Or a Devon smith and goldstein

    • Rivo says:

Avoid Armitage. Low ceiling and aging body. Plenty of other options around that price – Higgins, Dahlhaus, Worpell as examples.

      • Patch says:

Agreed Rivo. Saints players in general are worrying me, even with Roberton in my side.

    • gator59 says:

Do NOT pick Armitage….. Buuurrrnnnnn man

    • Dovaas says:

Hannebery is more likely than Armitage to get back to past glories. Aviod him unless he hits surprising supercoach form

  7. Richard says:

    Hi community,
I’d just like to throw a few names out into the open and get your opinions on them and what you think they might be able to do in 2019.
Viney, Taranto, Josh J kennedy, Zac williams, Zorko, Crisp.
    Cheers community!

    • James says:

I'm just going to say yes or no..
      Viney-no
      Taranto-no
      Jjk- potentially
      Williams- yes
      Zorko – yes
Crisp – yes if taking kick ins at Collingwood (is he?)

      • PizzaSafety says:

        Viney – no
        Taranto – potentially
        JJK – potentially
        Williams – yes
        Zorko – no
Crisp – I think Howe takes their kick ins? how much he does determines the answer to that question.

      • GreendaleFC says:

Viney – possibly yes, has been training well
        Taranto – no
JJK – More no than yes
Z Williams – yes but there might be better options, such as kick in takers
        Zorko – No
Crisp – No (doesn't take kick ins)

      • Flagpies19 says:

Kick ins are taken by Howe and Maynard.

    • Lekdog says:

      Viney -No
Taranto -Number stack up for a potential breakout but we're not talking 110+ here we're talking 90+
JJK-Will score 200 in round 1 then miss 2 rounds
      Williams Yes
Zorko-wait and see, no to start
      Crisp-Need to see Pies lineup

  8. Sammy says:

if you had to pick one who would you pick out of libber, hall, Hannebery, miles or rocky

  9. Harry says:

Could andy McGrath take the next step this year? What do you think his role will be?

    • Micky Donovan says:

McGrath will def improve his ave but not enough to make him a keeper and he won't make you enough money to be a viable option IMO. Much better options out there

      • Patch says:

I reckon this is the right call. A lot of competition for spots in that Essendon midfield and I'm not willing to take a punt. I reckon he'll break out, but will he finish the season as a top eight player? I don't see it at this stage, but I'm willing to be proven wrong!

        • Phat Phuc says:

We dont need him finish top 8 Patch we just want him to make some Yuans.
He's a smart footballer and Brains beats braun

    • Phat Phuc says:

Very probable Harry. if he gets high mid minutes in JLT and does well I'll lock him in

    • Dovaas says:

Ultimately a watch preseason option. Started very well in Essendon hit out today with midfield time.

  10. The Dependable says:

    Hi All,

    First time poster and listener!!

Looking for some thoughts on the below:

    $25,400 in the bank

Def: Lloyd, Sicily, Williams, Roberton, Burgess, Hore (Answerth,McLennan)
Mid: Cripps, Fyfe, Yeo, Martin, Merrett, Constable, Valente, Hayes (O’halloran, Hind, Foley)
    Ruc: Grundy, Goldstein (Fort)
Fwd: Danger, Heeney, Dunkley, Greene, Setterfield, Corbett (Cavarra, Moore)

I'm usually a $150k and under rookie selector (provided they're named) and also looking at starting without a loophole if a bottom priced ruck is selected.

    • Phat Phuc says:

      Did they fix Robertons Heart?

      • Patch says:

        Apparently they have, yes

        • Phat Phuc says:

Big risk, I wanna see him play 80 minutes in every JLT match before sign him up.
They also reckon that they fixed Kreuzers heart problem but there's no info anywhere as to what that issue was so I'm skeptical that they could have fixed it if they don't know what it was.
Sounds a bit like my Ferrari mechanic "I don't know what the rattle noise was but we fixed it. That'll be $3,500 thanks Mr Phuc".

          • Russty_ says:

Yeah right, at $130 an hour a mechanic makes out like a bandit whatever they do to your depreciating shitbox these days lol, back on the Kreuzer issue, I'm kinda glad I haven't decided to go with him now, I forgot about his heart scare, and then I remembered his groin issues and foot issues, and now he's over 30, so is Goldy but at least he's pretty durable.

    • Patch says:

Lloyd and Sicily is a massive D1+2 combo and I like it. Goldy an astute pick this year I feel.

    • Lekdog says:

Welcome aboard mate! Piece of advice is to grab an intensedebate account for the comments, makes it easier to track responses

I think you've nailed you first draft here. Roberton the question mark but I like a team without pods for pods sake.

    • Tyruddanaut says:

It's worth mentioning that Greene, Sicily and Merrett have been set-back during pre-season via injury. All (except Sicily) are still not in training
Your team features a lot of sub-premiums (less than 500k Fwd/Def and 575k Mid/Ruck) and few uber-premiums (600k+). Goldstein, Williams, Greene, Martin and Merrett are examples of players who could be fiddled with. I have had all but Goldy in my team, but here's why I changed them.
Dusty – Will likely be played up forward more often, or at an equal rate to this year due to injury risk and midfield depth at Richmond
Goldstein – 30 years old and well past his prime. More likely to decrease in value than increase.
Williams – Never averaged as a premium, people mainly going off hunches. Had entire season off, which rarely helps and often hinders.
Greene and Merrett – Pre-season niggles

    • Dovaas says:

I wouldn't avoid high price rookies. They average more than those outside top 10 with more success over 60 "in general". Walsh this yr is a near known rookie that should get you 60+ at most conservative estimate. For me, Walsh, Setterfield, Collins are good selections. Nick Blakey starting to put hand up today and is a watch now.

If we are lucky, we get to fill rookies with cheap options but the odd top 10 draftee is worth the time.

  11. KeenButClueless says:

The great ruck dilemma! I think I agree with the many posts that say we will ultimately want to get a Grundy Gawn combo. I also agree that the potential new roles for Melbourne makes Gawn’s opening price look prohibitive.

If you take Goldy, I think you are condemning yourself to never have Gawn. You might end up with the third best Ruck, but possibly not the best combo.

If you take Kreuzer or Longer, you will probably have them as stepping stones to get to Gawn. I think that’s a better option than Goldy.

But there might be a better option again. Play Fort at R2. Many teams are showing him at R3 because it is looking like he might get game time. So the question is R2 or R3. If he plays, will he score more than other on field rookies? If he does, I would prefer that on the field rather than on the bench.

Is it too big a risk to have a rookie R2? Possibly. If do, can you mitigate? Maybe running a DPP like Westhoff or Lycett or Lobb or Vardy in your forward line with Bines at R3 mitigates it, but does it water down your team too much? Westhoff is a chance to be top 6 forward. Lycett and Lobb might be top 20 but not top 6-10. Vardy is a risk but might be a better choice as he might sit as an F7 R3 in a full premo side, whereas Lycett and Lobb are too expensive for F7 R3.

I am definitely contemplating Fort at R2. It’s definitely that time of year. It certainly makes the other lines look stronger!

    • huh says:

Not sure how you can explain that people starting gold will not be able to get gawn

      • Russty_ says:

It's more difficult than you think huh, there are always more important issues to attend to….than sideways trades, it seems..and you usually need to do 2 trades to make it happen.

    • Patch says:

The ruck line will be chopped and changed a lot this pre-season and it's painful. I'm still worried by Pruess' impact on Gawn – I reckon they both play

      • It's pretty obvious at the dees training Pruess will play forward like Cox but the biggest mover at the Dees is Hore. Coaches are mighty impressed with him A ranging beautiful kick he will find it hard to get a gig but Smiley is in my team

    • dvj says:

      Shhhhhh on Fort!

    • Godd_Toldstein says:

North have the last bye. Perfect time to bring gawn in. Start any other ruckman and you'll still need 2 trades to get gawn in. Imo goldy could close the price gap between himself and gawn

    • fatboyfat7 says:

I just saw too that if Fort does start, he first two games are potentially against Grundy and Gawn….

  12. THE says:

    Hi All

First cut prior to preseason form and injuries,

    $95,700 in bank

Def: Laird, Witherden, Williams, Burton, Logue, Scrimshaw (Wiliamson, Wigg)
Mid: Cripps, Fyfe, Kelly, Bont, McCluggage, Hanne, Liber, Walsh (Constable, Bewley, Hind)
    Ruc: Kreuzer, English, (De Koning)
For: Heeney, J Kennedy, Curnow, Greene, Wright, Rankine (Blakey, Setterfield)

    • Ja191 says:

you need to address your ruck situation. You can make a case for leaving one of grundy/gawn out but you definitely need one of them

    • Patch says:

A lot of brave picks in McCluggage, Curnow and Burton – I'd personally dial one or two of them back but this time of year is where speculation shines

  13. PizzaSafety says:

Makes sense to go 4 deep in the backline with these new rules

    • Lekdog says:

Agree but also think there's plenty of value there too…gonna be make or break

    • Worpeltinger says:

Agreed, I'm curious to see how the new rule plays out in JLT but won't be going less than 4, even contemplating 5 to bring in another kick-in specialist like Witherden. That will depend on how the rule plays out in practice.

  14. Dice_real says:

Does anyone know of a site that shows VFL, TAC, SANFL, WAFL, NEAFL supercoach scores from last season?

    • Lekdog says:

Great question…I'll tweet the world and get back to you

    • Richard says:

footywire.com.au has comprehensive stats. Not sure if it would help you but sure that it would increase your average by atleast 100 points. If you know how to mine data …. Test your game against us at 392941

  15. John says:

Thoughts on Webster for 472k? Averaged 103 for the first 12 rounds last year until he went down in Round 13, then didn't look right for the rest of the season. Sneaky POD?

    • Patch says:

Hmmmmm he could well be a sneaky one – for mine, if I'm spending that much I'd probably want a tried and tested premo, otherwise I might look at a cheaper option. But one to consider, absolutely

      • Box says:

I bought him in late last season and he burnt me big time………………………..never again.

        • Russty_ says:

          Yeah unfortunately..for me!..he's a shit player in a shit team….avoid at all costs….moa foers.

  16. Shake_n_bake says:

    • Finnius says:

Hi shake – I was Lloyd Pope last year but my team name has changed. Finnius’ frothies are happy to join :). We killed it as a league last year so hopefully can do it again.

      • Shake_n_bake says:

Great Finnius. Hope to get everyone back

      • It was one of my strongest leagues Finn From my memory you beat Shake by about 180 in the G/F I finished on top but tradeless Bombed out quick Not this year good luck Finn

        • Finnius says:

It was a great league NDD. My GF score was my best for the year so lucky to get up in that regard.

      • Russty_ says:

Aren't you still a bit young to be drinking frothies Finn?…need to change your profile line too mate.

      • Russty_ says:

What are these 7 mythical reasons why Trig..7 Reasons Why…what? πŸ™‚

        • TRIGGA_HAPPY says:

Why I fell off the pace last year but wont this year

          Macrae
          Grundy
          Whitfield
          Dunkley
          Brayshaw
          Zerrett
          Roberton

          • How many were in the same boat TRIGG Really thinking about Brayshaw Don't think two dees will hurt in the mids

            • Russty_ says:

I think he could go premo this year Neil, he showed the signs last year, was only head injuries and silly helmets holding him back the year before.

            • TRIGGA_HAPPY says:

Yep this year started with who i wanted but missed on last year and built from there.

          • Russty_ says:

Ah ok, I wasn't able to obtain Macrae last year, that's something peeps don't realise, if you don't start with a certain player and they go nuts, they remain unaffordable.
I didn't have most of those guys last year either, got Grundy in when I could, had Whitfield to start but got rid of him right before he started improving his scores haha

            • Rick says:

Its all in first 2 rounds. If your team shapes well you end up well but if you are forced to shuffle your cards in first 2 rounds thats how the season ends.

          • Shake_n_bake says:

Had some great games last year Trigg! In hindsight so many things we all could av done differently players we started with, when to pull the trigger on players, ones to get in and ones you just miss out on. Im hoping to just limit that this year!! Good luck πŸ€πŸ˜‰

Hey Gator, I read an article in the Herald Sun that said right now it's between Fort and Stanley for the Cats, and considering Stanley started out as a fwd he could be more suited down there, hopefully the Cats will give Darcy a go and he does well, if he starts round 1, I might start him R2 and whack another big gun on another line.

      • gator59 says:

Yeah i'm thinking along the same line Russty with Fort,, But would you be game enough to start Grundy and Gawn and them having the same bye round and fork out $1.4 mill and set and forget

        • I am GAT with SWEET It is a lot of coin but think of the lost points

        • Russty_ says:

Absolutely mate, we only need the best 18 scores on the park for that week, and so what if ya only lose one bye round if it doesn't work out?
The rest of the year will work out with the 2 best rucks in you corner..but other lines would obviously suffer…I was set on Kreuzer, but am unsure about that now, and opted for Grundy / Goldy for now.

          • gator59 says:

I was looking at Kruez but the two big G's might have to be the go and the other big G will be third

          • Holty01 says:

Hi mate. How have you been? Great to see you still around the site

            • gator59 says:

Hi Holty good to see you back .. Now get stuck into your side and have fun

    • Rick Grimes says:

I don't see Gawn scoring the same as last year. Think he'll still be top 2 ruck, but about 10 points shaved off his ave. So around 115-120. I see Goldy increasing his ave by 5-10, so around 110-115. Ergo, similar output for $150k less. Grundy my clear no1 pick and happy to stump up for him.

      • Hi Rick JLT will have a huge impact on where the dees see Pruess. The saints and cats would love to have him wouldn.t be dismissing the all aust. no. 1 ruckman just yet NDD

    • Phat Phuc says:

By 2 big guns do you mean Grundy and NicNat?

  22. Daniel says:

Looking for cash leagues to join. NO BS please. Cheers community

  23. Holty01 says:

Hey all. SuperCoach is open. You little beauty. Now to spend the next few months changing my side a couple of hundred times.

    • Russty_ says:

Hi Holty, good to see you mate, keep a spot open cause I'll try to slot you in to one of my two leagues, if anyone's not interested but if not I'll start a new one, cheers bud, don't be so bloody late next year lol.

      • Holty01 says:

All good mate. Been a hectic few months for me so finally had the opportunity to log on to see how the community is going. Seems all the regulars are back which is great to see.

        • Russty_ says:

Hope everything's ok with you mate, yeah the JR Site's looking like it has good attendance again, was dead before SC opened but then fired up, had a few problems with spam and quite a few people not being able to post when they want to but hopefully admin are sorting that stuff out.
The flog factor has reduced this year, and there are some great new posters around the traps with some great info.., if you have any issues posting, email me and I'll let Lek know about it.

          • Holty01 says:

Cheers mate. Will probably start my research on the rookies next few weeks as I think I know who I want as my promos. Will probably leave Gawn out if a rookie is playing 1st round as Preuss playing now scares me off Gawn a bit

            • Good to see you back again Hotly. I have been to many dees training and Pruess is being groomed to be a big cox. I don't think it will dramatically effect Gawn and it may not even work. The new rules will help Brayshaw more than any other demon .I am so tempted to make him M5 instead of Harmes cheers mate NDD

              • gator59 says:

That's why I asked you about Harmes Neil… Just interested on how he's tracking and whether he's worth gambling on

    • Rakesh Mohan says:

come and have a go at 488616. Last year average was 2100+

  24. The ruck debate will continue but a few years back when Gawn went down Pederson Watts and Tom McDonald took over with success. The first two are no longer dees but McDonald is. With the grooming of Weideman as a ruckman progressing. and his undoubted forward talent coupled with the proven relief ruckwork of McDonald I cannot see Pruess taking over from Weideman They are trialing it but really he will be a Casey Ruckman – however Gawn will be rested interstate games Only my observation

    • gator59 says:

What !!!!! Watts is gone !!!! How !!!! When !!!! Why !!!! The number 1 draft pick that's as handy as a hip pocket in a pair of undies…. Ahh I see now why Port got him to take over the no 1 ruck roll after Ryder, Lycett and The Hoff retire

    • gator59 says:

On another one Neil it's great to see Shelley Scott sharing the Captains roll with Daisy…. She's the daughter of one of my mates Peter that I grew up and played footy with….. The little dairy farmer from Gerangamete about 10 minutes south east of Colac who would've ever thunked that hey

      • Did you see your other mate on the cricket === Hodgey. They reckon he could have made it.Daisy wont play she is having a baby and good luck to Shelley.might get a gig at saints with the other girls

        • gator59 says:

No I didn't see Hodgey.. But he was lightning with the ball.. He'd still trundle around mid to high 130's now… He has such a graceful action and runs in like Michael Holding

    • Phat Phuc says:

I doubt that Preuss would have knocked back offers from 4 or more AFL clubs to play VFL Neil. I know you love Max and want him to be #2 most selected supercoach ruck but it's more likely he'll be 4 or 5.

  25. Rick Grimes says:

Seems the trend is picking a bunch of mid price defenders with the expectation that rule changes will bump up their output. What happens if that doesn't pan out?

    • gator59 says:

Iv'e made the same observation Rick … I'm still looking at pure guns down back.. In fact i'm going pure Guns'n' Rooks all over

    • Holty01 says:

Yeah Rick seems to be the case. My back premos consist of any of the top 12 from last year who took the most kick ins. I’m even considering Short as well. I think the new kickin rule might benefit him the most. Hurn could be a big winner as well with the new rule

      • gator59 says:

Hard to say who's going to benefit the most on this one Holty… there are so many that play on from the kick in

    • you will run out of coin though Gator. Its confusing when discussing prems and mid pricers/ Derek said he had 12 but I counted less Triggs version is best up to 250 rookie 500 midprice over that are prem Was cogniglio a prem last year? no — a mid pricer to start. Also I notice people saying I am counting so and so as a prem Rubbish either above 500 and a prem or not Yeo was 499 early doors —a mid pricer So Rick and Gator will you make it with guns n rooks ?

      • Rick Grimes says:

I'm looking at Lloyd, Laird and Whitfield in dec at this stage. 5 x uber premium Mids. Grundy and Goldy. 3 x $500+ forwards. Rest rookies. Have coin to buy a couple of pricier rooks if they look value. Overall happy with 13 definite keepers and few question marks.

      • Derek says:

I think Keepers instead of Guns.

Witho is a keeper in my opinion, someone you expect to start and finish the year with.

Everyone else is a cash cow.

ZWilliams is a keeper. He isn’t a cash cow, not cheap enough.

Green is a keeper if he starts

        Kruzer I’m not sure about

    • Godd_Toldstein says:

What price do you consider a mid price defender to be?

      • Rick Grimes says:

Witherden would be prime example. Mid priced to average 85. Could go to 100 average this year, maybe. But it's a punt and you might be stuck with mid priced output.

        • Phat Phuc says:

Thats a bit harsh on Alex Rick he's only played 30 games and has a career ave of 16 kicks p/game. I'll be picking him before Laird who's best season ave for kicks is also 16 (2018) but a career ave of only 10.5.
Third year breakout for Alex. Laird increased his ave by 34 in his 3rd year Witherden could do the same just by playing on at every kick-in.

        • Godd_Toldstein says:

Yeah I don't know about that as fatty said it's withers 3rd year. To have an 85 avg that early on is pretty good. Doesn't need to do too much more to get into the top 6 spot

    • TOPHAWK1 says:

I agree Rick. That to me is a risky business. For me, it is simply keeping the rule changes in mind, and yet still selecting players purely on merit. If you are down to 2-3 players who you are tossing up over to fill a spot and one of those 3 has the most to benefit from a rule change, then perhaps then do you take that into consideration and select that player who gets most benefit. By wildly selecting mid pricers solely because they could benefit from rule changes is absolute madness. Cheers Rick.

    • GloryDays94 says:

Thinking Blakely, Witherden and Williams are the 3 mid pricers to consider

    • BomTellchambers says:

Remember a guy kicking in is only as good as they players he has to kick to….Look for the clubs with great ruckmen to kick it to. Howe & Hibberd are 2 nobody seems to talk about

  26. TOPHAWK1 says:

G day community! My first post for 2019 and I want to throw a challenge out.

The challenge is this: "Which 10 premo defenders ($450K ) have a history of doing a large bulk of the kick ins (After a behind) WHICH DO NOT kick it to themselves but simply kick it out directly."

One such defender which comes to mind is Luke Ryan. He does a lot of kicking in without kicking it to himself and playing on. Can we find the other 9 and rank them in order with #1 being the premo defender who never or rarely kicks it to himself first but yet takes a lot of kick ins. (Direct)

Lets see who we can come up with. Cheers community!

    • Holty01 says:

Lloyd Hurn Short and Witherden are the most prolific with the kickin duties. What surprised me more was Hurn kicked in 61% of the time

      • _Kyle says:

Was taking a look at who had the kick in duties last year and hurn took a blody big chunk of them (151) and 41% of those he kicked to himself. That alone put him into my first drafted side

    • Crisp and Salem rarely but lewis does

    • Shake_n_bake says:

Glad to see you back in hawk!

  27. Richard says:

Gray vs Dunkley. What are the pros and cons of both and who is more likely to do better.
    Cheers community

    • Ja191 says:

Hey Richard, It's all role for those two. Both shown they can tear it up if given midfield time and will be ones to monitor in regards to where their respective coaches play them. Gray is likely to do better if both given the midfield role but dunkley has shown great scoring ability averaging 115.7 from round 15 onwards last year and is in my team right now + may be a bit of a pod

  28. Xman says:

    Patch / Lek / Community

    Any love for jack Steele?

    Upside
    – he is 23 -he will play in the guts and only the guts -averaged a massive 111.7 in his last 9 games – possesses from my quick research most of the statistics in Jocks “next supercoach beast” except for disposals but his tackling makes up for those points – $515k

    Downside
    – was used in a tagging role a couple of times which generally isn’t supercoach friendly but actually helped him I believe because he got more tackles – had a poor start to the year

    • no plays for saints who are poorly coached anything can happen down there

    • Rick Grimes says:

Hadnt considered him xman but those last 9 game stats are impressive. Wait and see prospect I think, especially being a Saint.

    • Phat Phuc says:

      Nice point-out Xman
      2017 he ave 90.5 for 1st 7-games (only 2x Sub-80) and 95 over last 7-games
      2018 he ave 82.7 for 1st 7-games (4x sub-80) and 117 over last 7-games
Not on my starting team radar because he costs 512k and might drop by 50-100k early but, he averages 7.5 tackles a game at the saints as a tagger so as long as the saints continue their abstract midfield strategy of losing clearances he could be worth a look after the byes.

    • GloryDays94 says:

Will be an interesting one to watch early. If he plays a proper MID role then could be a decent POD

    • Holty01 says:

He is on my watch list Xman. I have always been big on him and have mentioned him on several occasions. A tackling machine who gets plenty of the contested ball. Problem is, I don’t trust the Saints. He was dropped last year after he was leading the Saints tackling and won more contested ball then any other Saint. I think it has something to do with his engine as he spends a lot of time on the bench. I’ll watch him in the JLT but I guess that doesn’t mean a lot as he smashed out a 170 sc points against Sydney and then started the proper season with more of a run with role. It sucked me in last year as I started him

      • Xman says:

I believe he finished top 10 in the 3k a couple of weeks back and he’s tracking well. Again it’s gonna be the question if it’s worth the risk, could have a similar average to this year or he could explode.

        • Holty01 says:

I think if he was 400k he would be worth the risk but at his price, you would be hoping for him to be a keeper

    • Lekdog says:

      Phantom rates him I believe

  29. _Kyle says:

Welcome back to the new years ladies and gents. Iv finally had my first look at supercoach for the year and there are some tantalising prospects.

Question for @trig. Any chance your making trigs happy place again this year? Would love the chance to defend my title from last year againa you blokes. Cheers

    • welcome back Kyle That was an epic win for the tradies Moustaccio has been one of if not the best Jr coach with apologies to addicts,.2679 was a massive total . I for one want to take your title See you in the HAPPY PLACE I hope NDD

      • _Kyle says:

Cheers mate! Had one of those years where everything sorta just fell in to place haha

Came out of the byes like a man posessed averaging over 2500 to years end!

  30. Might have to rethink Gawn Melbourne just trialled Gawn as a forward with Pruess rucking Both starred with Gawn's marking a highlight. Took a ripper over Frost. They are tinkering with a forward line of Joel Smith McDonald Weideman and Gawn with Pruess now rucking enough for me, you guys appear to be right , welcome Goldy NDD

    • Godd_Toldstein says:

Do you watch all of their training?

      • Yes and for those that have him Tracca went off with a lower leg maybe an ankle all hush hush no one talking about it Looked bad and was heavily strapped Give him a miss

    • GloryDays94 says:

So you think Gawn is not a good pick then? If that is the case I might go Martin, Goldy

    • Xman says:

When was this? Melbourne didn’t train today

    • TOPHAWK1 says:

Thanks for the intel Neil. I am not starting Gawn this year. Its Grundy and Goldstein for me at this stage. As you know, Goldy has no Pruess and Daw to deal with and should do the bulk of the rucking for North. He is super consistent and great value at $548K. Set and forget! Will never touch Petracca again after he shat all over me last year. The fact that he has injury issues means I can just forget him. Cheers mate.

      • TOPHAWK1 says:

Have you given Westhoff any thought? He is an interesting one. He has RUC/FWD eligibility. He will do very little ruck work with Lycett and Paddy Ryder sharing those duties. Westhoff could play that roaming type role where he collects pozzies around the ground and kick a few goals as well. He could easily average 100+ and may be a very strategic R2 option. Same price as Goldy. He is on my watchlist to see what role he has during the JLT.

  31. Phat Phuc says:

We are all aware of the snide comment 'Points Chaser' that is leveled at people who trade in players that start with a bang, personally I think it's just sour grapes from those who don't have the courage to make the same move.

If you look at it equitably anybody who starts the #1 to #6 player in any position is also technically 'Points Chasing' only they're doing so based on performances 6-months ago rather than performances from 3-weeks ago.

Maybe cut back on the insults this year guys unless none of your starting squad is top 10 in their position.

    • GloryDays94 says:

Golden rule: never go chasing points. If you missed the boat dont try and catch up to it πŸ‘

      • GloryDays94 says:

Not what I am saying at all.

I mean dont go chasing points from rookies who you have missed out on if they have gone up in price dramatically, see it happen every year.

Dont sideways trade premo players for others just because others are tearing it up at that time, also see that happen every year

        • GloryDays94 says:

Sorry man… Was just having an opinion on something I have seen ruin SC seasons… no need to get so narky. πŸ‘

    • Russty_ says:

It's a sensitive subject because sometimes we all have to do it when we realise we've chosen the wrong guy and the guy we didn't choose is going nuts on the scoreboard.
I've done it before and I'll do it again if it means I can acquire the guy who's gonna get me the points I need going forward, even if it means sacrificing 50 or 100 grand sometimes.
Obviously it's not ideal and we'd all like to make the right calls from the start but we don't sometimes, and have to take the money loss up the keister…lol

      • TOPHAWK1 says:

Spot on Russty. I did not start with Sicily last year but with Petracca instead. Became very clear after the first few rounds I had a serious problem. I realised I had to get rid of Petracca and secure Sicily as soon as I could. I think Sicily was in my team by round 6 and Petracca was punted soon thereafter. That move saved my season and ensured i remained competitive in most leagues and seeing some finals action. That is not points chasing, that is team management. Chasing in form players that you do not have to boost your point scoring is a crucial part of this wonderful game.

        • Russty_ says:

I think you did the right thing there mate, I think the point chasing issue, or debate stems around rookies, do you bring the 117k rookie in after he has 3 good weeks in a row and jumps to 195k?…maybe not cause they can fall in a heap after that, their high initial scores being attributed to excitement of their debut and adrenaline.
I've done that before, but won't do it again..can really damage your year.

  32. BomTellchambers says:

There's some intense debate going with you fellas about ruckmen…..Sure you haven't forgotten anyone?

  33. Lazza says:

When it comes to twitter I am a twit… it’s all gooblydook to me .. so I only read what is presented in a single tweet.. no idea how to share this so just copied .. the credit to Paige Córdona .. has me thinking seriously …
    #FunFactFriday
@Richmond_FC won the clearance rate 56% of the time that Jack Higgins attended a centre bounce – that is the highest percentage differential in the AFL. On top of averaging 96.5 #SuperCoach points during the finals series, Higgins is a serious breakout contenderπŸ’―

    • well done very useful indeed

    • Kevan63 says:

Hi Lazza, checked Higgins out. I used to be fond of finding one breakout player per line in the early days of SC, have gone pure G&R last few years, Higgins might sway me back to yester-years. Thanks for the heads-up.

  34. RoyWetard says:

How much of your salary cap are you looking to have spare to start the season?

    • Lekdog says:

I don't keep any spare, no need IMO, rookies generate quickly

    • Holty01 says:

I try to have 80000 to 100000. This is more of a just in case one of my premos go down in the early going. The extra money will allow me to do a direct swap with another premium

    • GloryDays94 says:

I usually look to have 70k or more

    • Phat Phuc says:

I'm with Lek on this one money in the kitty doesn't score points.

    • The Ranger says:

      50-100K for me Roy.
Just to cover any early correctives/injuries.

    • Russty_ says:

I like around 50K, just in case.

Shame to not see Pieman around for so long Gator, hope he hasn't chosen somewhere else and everything's ok with him, I miss his posts.
Not sure about the other guys but John's around, johnDJ59's on Twitter too I think. Nicholas always starts late from memory.

  37. Rivo says:

A couple of options being considered. Thoughts appreciated…

    1. Witherden D3 & Walsh M6
    2. De Goey F4 & any $123k Rookie mid M8?

    • Godd_Toldstein says:

Withers looks good. Personally I wouldn't pick a 200k rookie. They might make a few extra points to start off with but the cheaper ones will make you more cash and allow you to upgrade quicker offsetting those early points

      • Rivo says:

Agree Gods. Walsh is a bit risky but almost guaranteed to play. I can see him putting up decent scores around 75+ & be good on field cover. Not a keeper but I do have enough rooks to make the cash for the culling time.

  38. Josh says:

Is there a Jock Reynolds group code

  39. Josh says:

    I have a league it’s open to anyone 384092

  40. Josh says:

    Thank you

  41. Josh says:

What’s everyone’s thoughts on de goey and j Kennedy this year

    • Peter says:

      Josh
Are they keepers – if not, you will use up two trades. You need to find a forward keeper and a rookie to replace them imo

    • Godd_Toldstein says:

Not sure d goey gets much mid time

  42. Godd_Toldstein says:

Just gotta say what's the point in playing if you're not going for overall. Push yourself, don't just play for 'bragging' league wins.

    • Russty_ says:

Nothing wrong with going for overall rank, but ultimately 99.999 % of us will be more concerned about how we go in or leagues, against people we know..because that's ultimately more fun, when the whole overall rank thing hits us in the face with reality.
Personally I'm an, enjoying the journey kinda guy as opposed to , the final result…except for Leagues, when it can go up until the final game.
There's plenty of point playing for whatever you want to play for…why exactly are you making a point of only playing for rank?….you sound like someone familiar from last year.

      • Godd_Toldstein says:

Well $50k sounds a lot better than saying I beat some scrubby Jr member in a weekly score. I personally thing overall players are far superior to those who are solely invested in league

        • Russty_ says:

Good for you then I guess, overall is like winning Lotto, it only happens to one of many, if your sole enjoyment depends on that then good luck to you I guess, that's a lot of expectation for 6 months of work with very little reward for all but one.
I think the players who are "far superior"…are the ones who enjoy their season the most, regardless of overall ranking, which more often than not, pales into comparison to the enjoyment they got from winning a League full of competitive players completing the whole season.

You are reminding me disturbingly of the exact same attitude from Sc Wow and Sc-Sixty 6 from last year…where everything regarding rank mattered, and everything else didn't, and then they proved how delusional they were by their final failure ranks..from their flawed trading strategy, which advocated trading aggressively, and running out of trades early..6 weeks early to be precise.
Both crashed and burned badly…after all their rank boasting.

          • Godd_Toldstein says:

I was around last year from what I remember they still finished quite high regardless of their drop off.

Leagues is just a different mindset not offence

            • Russty_ says:

One finished 3000th plus and the other 10000 plus…after bragging all year about rank and crapping all over players playing for leagues…I think i've seen enough now, you just can't help exposing yourselves, you're booted from my League, not sure who the other one is yet but I'll figure it out soon enough….you weren't around last year at all, I would've remembered…not under this name anyway.

              • Godd_Toldstein says:

                Yeah I didnt post…?
                OK kick me πŸ‘

                • Russty_ says:

Oh you were here but didn't post?…just a humble observer…with how humble you are.?.hahah you're a Liar, you know you are.
You're too dumb to fool anyone, if you were smarter you'd have waited until half way through the season before you released your views on overall rank and Leagues, which are quite clear!..because that's all that matters to you and your sidekick….that's a big empty result if it goes wrong.
Anyways…enough drama, now that i've exposed you…I'm ready to go back to chillout Summer mode.
You two can't help but reveal your true natures because they're toxic…maybe go study Political science?

        • CuriousGeorge says:

          Is that you WOW?

    • Russty_ says:

Just for the record, I have a record with these serial instigators, they've both gone after me in the past, and lost the battle.
I'm just pointing out that they are the only people in the past, ever who have brought attention to their view that only going for overall rank matters, and that everything else doesn't.
If they had more brains, they'd have stayed more hidden until the season was well underway.
They're just here under different names this year, probably with vpn's so their identities can't be blocked.
Their goal is to disrupt the site, annoy and infuriate people, and make people not want to post because of all their drama…which upsets people and makes them think this is a drama filled site, when it usually isn't.
Most people who are here are really good people with good input to contribute, these guys are not here for that.

    • TOPHAWK1 says:

Thanks for your input SC WOW. Let me know when you win this thing.

    • Good for you Russty .This is a fun site and most are league players anyway. Good you exposed both early and get back to our teams. .NDD

    • TRIGGA_HAPPY says:

      Rusty rusty.

While i love your passion always remember the "fire" analogy.

On league v Rank there was a great article on this in the JR mag a couple of years back written by the doyian Jock himself.

Make as call which one you are as there are different strategies for each.

Have a read. It is all there.

      • Holty01 says:

hi Trigga. This is true. 2 completely different strategies. But this was one of the main reasons why we had all the problems last year on the site. You had 2 blokes getting stuck into people saying how more superior they were because their ranks were better when probably 90% of us were playing for leagues. It is impossible to compare yet these 2 would constantly do this in a way it was trying to belittle people and damage this great site. If they do return, we as a community just have to be better then them and not get sucked in with their nonsense.

    • Derek says:

If you want to win leagues, you keep a lot of trades going into the last few weeks.

      • I try to do both Last year I was in the top 3 after the byes in most leagues with a top side but down to 4 trades. Bombed out quick. Better as you say to keep trades for leagues, but for rank you must grab them as they appear like MacRae last year .I have an idea that fallen midpricers might be the key this year. plenty of prems are overs

        • Holty01 says:

Hi Neil. I think after about 4 weeks We have a rough idea if you can compete for overall. My team selection for round 1 isn’t any different but depending where I’m sitting after those first 4 weeks ultimately decides what direction I take for the rest of the season

  43. RoyWetard says:

    Looking at a few scenarios
1.Fyfe, Whitfield, Blakely, Witherden, DEF rook and 40k
2.Lloyd/Sicily, Whitfield, Blakely, Witherden, MID rook and 55 or 85k
3.Lloyd, Sicily, Whitfield, Roberton, MID rook and 105k
4.Lloyd/Sicily, Whitfield, WItherden, Roberton, MID rook and 225 or 255k
5.Lloyd/Sicily, Whitfield, WItherden, Roberton, Miles and 5 or 35k
    How would you rank these?

    • Russty_ says:

Hi Roy, I don't actually rate Whitfield that highly, he's still a bit inconsistent…everyone wants to end up with Lloyd but he's damn expensive.
Defenders I like this year are Hurn, Witherden, Williams, maybe even Roberton depending on how his pre-season goes…he can at least deliver 80 + if he's back to his old self.
Blakely is one to watch in the pre-season too I think.

  44. Russty_ says:

Call out to BrowlowBoy, PizzaSafety and TommyC99, for entry into JR 18 MEGA-LEAGUE 381946.
Jump in guys if you're interested otherwise let me know, cheers fellas.

I'll start contacting alternates if i don't hear from you by next week, but I'd really like you guys to be part of it….cheers.

  45. Russty_ says:

Hi Holty, get in on League 848493,…I've had a withdrawl..go for it mate, please confirm with me.

  46. Blueth says:

One of McCluggage or Berry will go large this year.
    I'm leaning towards jarrod

    • Godd_Toldstein says:

      Non are premo

      • Blueth says:

That is correct. Some players move up to premium status from mid-pricers to premiums during a season.
Jarrod Berry will average 95-100 IMO

  47. Russty_ says:

Hi Nick, SC Team Scandiand fc, what's your Jock Reynolds name please?…You need to let me know your team name and JR name 1st before jumping in…cheers

    • PJ8 says:

This is me. Was in the leagues last year and got the direct email to re-join

      • Russty_ says:

No worries PJ, Didn't send out any email as this is a new League but happy to have you in …I've seen you around the traps for a few years and you always do well, plus Derek recommends you :), welcome mate.

    • Derek says:

He is a good player mate

  48. Good for you Russty We don't need that this year.

  49. Godd_Toldstein says:

Afl app has released some info on how players are tracking in pre season

  50. BrownlowBoy says:

    Hey TopHawk,

    Just saw your post.

If you'd like to open a spot I'd appreciate that in your league, but if not don't stress mate I'm sure we'll bump into one another in a different league.

  51. Holty01 says:

Just started a league. Code is 541440. All welcome but would love many of the regular posters in this league.

  52. sc tragic says:

Last time I joined a league I was tossed, is it boys only, if not I'm interested. team- Penske file

    • Holty01 says:

Yeah mate all good. All welcome. There are a few leagues that will kick you as some have had the same teams in it for years. Don’t take it personally as same happened to me last year.

  53. Richard says:

Thoughts on my team community, V2 after hanging around the forums and taking in people’s advice.
DEF: Lloyd, Sicily, Witherden, Williams, Rook, Rook/ Rook,Rook
Mid: Cripps, Neale, Martin, Merret, Taranto, Liberatore, Rook, Rook// Rook rook rook
    Ruck: Grundy, Goldstein// Loophole
Fwd: Danger, Heeney, Gray, Rook, Rook, Rook// Rook, Rook.
    Cheers community, rip into it!

    • BrownlowBoy says:

I like it. Like the Taranto selection a lot.

      • Richard says:

It’s ballsy, but I don’t want to miss out when he takes the step to elite status.

        • Holty01 says:

And with no more Shiels, possibly will be now playing more midfield time. Brave move but can’t really knock your decision if you start him.

  54. Shake_n_bake says:

Kreuzer under the knife again for a knee clean out hoping to be ready for rd 1 πŸ€”

    • Godd_Toldstein says:

      Source?

    • gator59 says:

Well it's back to the ACME drawing board for me then

    • BrownlowBoy says:

      Cross him off the list

    • TOPHAWK1 says:

Thanks Russty. I was just talking about Kreuzer yesterday about the high injury risk he is. And now he has gone under the knife again. Just not worth risking, and that goes for Mumford as well. I am prepared to fork out the coin and go Goldy at R2. Not touching guys like Longer. Way too risky for mine.

      • TRIGGA_HAPPY says:

I whacked in fort at r2 last night just for fun.

        Boy does that improve things!

Blakey, williams and green become lloyd, laird and smith.

        Quite an upgrade.

        • gator59 says:

Hi Trigga are you going to have your league running again that really did well last year.. cheers mate

          • TRIGGA_HAPPY says:

Yep Happy Place will go around again but not till Feb.
            Jan is just too early

I normally start league around stsrt of JLT.

Titch to Scratch will have to be scratched as Titch is sitting 2019 out.

Never fear though I will come up with a replacement.

        • gator59 says:

Have been toying with the same idea about fort .. Neil and I discussed this plan over the phone yesterday

        • TOPHAWK says:

I love playing around with my team like that. By whacking Fort into R2 it frees up a bloody fortune of cash! Starting Fort at R2 would require a serious strategy and luck to pull it off. Let's say you are planning to get Mumford in going into round 3,4, or 5 (Suspended Rd 1 and 2) Mummy is doing all the right things and is fit to play. Do you run Fort at R2 for the first 5 weeks and grab his points and use him as a short term cash cow? Then when Mummy returns in round 3 have a look at him and if he looks good do the big switch going into round 5? Fort out at 250-300K and Mummy in at 320K? Lots needs to go right like Fort producing reasonable scores 60+, not getting dropped and Mummy staying on the park producing 90+ scores. If it comes off you are laughing with all those extra points generated by the 3 extra premos. Not sure I have the fortitude to do that, but it's a potential SHARK MOVE!πŸ˜‚πŸ¦ˆ

          • skindog says:

Exactly, and a large pair of stones, what could go wrong? here, hold my beer:)

            • TOPHAWK1 says:

Its just a pipe dream. There are just too many if and buts, and variables in play. If Fort gets dropped in round 2 or Mummy does not play round 3 you are pretty much screwed. There are smarter moves. Just thought it was a bit of fun throwing it out there.

              • Skindog says:

Of course mate, look like a champion if you pull it off, but mainly a fool for anyone who gives it a go! But I’ve decided, for the moment at least, to go a cheaper option, 🀷‍♂️

      • skindog says:

Hey Tophawk1, waqs just toying with the Mummy idea, if Fort gets a call up for the first two games mummy could be a little money maker, then a sideways with a bit coin??

        • skindog says:

Or Fort at R2, but its looks wrong, and both scare the shit outta me?

  55. Dylan says:

    Hi community,
    Here's a first draft
DEF: Lloyd, Laird, Sicily, Whitfield, S. Collins, Wilkie, (Hore, Wigg)
MID: Cripps, Fyfe, Kelly, D. Martin, B. Smith (WB), Setterfield, Constable, Bewley, (E. Smith, Hind, Hayes)
    RUC: Grundy, Gawn, (Sweet)
FWD: Dangerfield, Dunkley, Wingard, Blakey, Corbett, Cavarra, (M. Parker, Wilkinson)

Thoughts? Would love to find a way to get in D. Smith, Heeney, Blakely and Miles but not sure how.

    Cheers

    • Dice_real says:

      Bloody good side Dylan.
Get Heeney in for Wingard and if that's Hayes from bulldogs he'll score well if he gets a game…so will Smith

      • Dylan says:

Hey mate, heard good things about hayes and smith from the dogs so they're in for the time being, hopefully they can make us some good cash!

    • TOPHAWK1 says:

Hi Dylan. That is a decent side.

The only thing that concerns me is your high spend in the back line which has exposed your depth (lack of) in your midfield. You have 4 premos back there. For me that is 2-3 too many. Perhaps look to start with Lloyd and Whitfield, and aim to grab Laird and Sicily as the season progresses. I really think you need to spend more $ and secure one more uber premo mid. (Eg Oliver, Z Merrett, M Crouch, Macrae-expensive etc). Most points come from the midfielders and you need to be strong there to get your season off to a strong start point scoring wise.

Perhaps you will then still have enough dough left to grab a bargain price premo potential player such as A Miles, B Smith (Adelaide) or a Zac Williams type for either the back line or midfield. I think that if you tinker it right, your side would become even more balanced. Just my take Dylan. Good luck this season!

      • Dylan says:

Thanks for the feedback tophawk1! I think you might be on to something there, I'm thinking sicily can wait as you said and I will downgrade to get one of those mids you are talking about. Good luck this season to you too!

      • GOAT___23 says:

Hey Dylan. I really like your team mate. I wouldnt reduce your defensive premos to 2 though. I myself am running with Lloyd, Sicily, Witherden and Williams. Defence is going to be huge this year, especially with the new kick in rule, and someone like Sicily who already takes a lot of kick ins will benefit even further from that. He will only improve this year and I can see him averaging 105+ again. You dont want to be left behind the pack in terms of point scoring after only the second round.

        • Dylan says:

I'm now running with Lloyd, Laird, Sicily and Blakely with only 4 mid premos and 3 fwds as I cant bring myself to move on any of the first three and i like the look of blakely as a pod. Agree the defence could be really strong this year!

    • Rivo says:

Ripping team Dylan. Agree with a few comments here that the backs look too loaded for now. Consider swapping out Sicily or Whitfield for an undervalued mid promo like Merrett, Crouch or Dusty.

      • Dylan says:

I've currently swapped whitfield for blakely, but im still not sure i would be able to get a uber premo if i now swap blakely to a rookie. Had merrett in and out of side but his susceptability to a tag is worrying… any other options you would suggest around that price? already have dusty

  56. Whitey says:

Hi guys, been a great start to the year for the community, a lot of positive criticism when people put teams up which is great to hear. I feel my team is lacking a bit of edge or creativity, like to hear what people think.

    Def: Lloyd, Simpson, Andrews, Williams

Mid: McRae, Cripps, Kelly, Neale, Merrett

    Ruck: Grundy, Naismith

    Fwd: Danger, Heeney, Smith,

Rest rookies, have allowed for a 160k rookie on each line, understand Naismith is an unknown but we will know more come JLT.

    Cheers in advance.

  57. I cant access my team Do I have to pay the fee. Russty had a similar problem last year

      Mills is still an unknown

Ill see how they go threw the JLT matches ablett is the biggest risk but i have faith

        • Brutal pups says:

I really think hall is going to absolutely kill it for north melbourne

          • Holty01 says:

For me it’s between Hall Liba and Miles for that mid pricer. I won’t have more then 1

            • Brutal pups says:

This year ill be going 2 mid pricers, i really believe all 3 will score well and make lots of cash

              • Brutal pups says:

Libba might push dunkly foward might swap dunks for heeney

              • Derek says:

A rookie will make more cash. A mid priced player is there to score premium like points.

  61. De Goets says:

Already have but don't tell anyone……………….

    • Derek says:

You just have Westhoff out of position

    • Godd_Toldstein says:

This team is really not that impressive considering fort is at d2. Sloane cops a tag he's done, and miles won't outscore a solid r2 ruckman. Your defence is fine but you could still have it with a better d2. Nothing amazing in the forward line either. Not sure where all your money went

  62. Skindog says:

Fasolo and Wines down, fasolo for maybe year, clown about πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  65. RoyWetard says:

I wonder what the ownership % of premo MIDS and FWDS would've been had Mitchell not gotten injured and Danger not get FWD status?

  66. Bob says:

Your laird point on losing points by not gaining marks from kick ins makes no sense at all, the ball travels 15m to a player then they are rewarded a mark regardless if inside or outside square. You're saying all ppl that kick in won't change their game plan, may be so but as soon as their foot touches or goes over the line they gain that possession.

Ryan doesn't need to carry the ball 10m then kick to gain the points, as I said he only needs a foot on/over the line and the stat counts.

    • Bob says:

I'm predicting your prediction is wrong. New kick in rule will be huge for some players. A matter of picking the right ones.

    • Holty01 says:

b4 you start pointing the finger about trolling, you should probably log back on to your account because all I can see from this is your the troll trying to pose as someone else. Very hard to take you seriously when this happens

        • Russty_ says:

Yep, the similarities with the 2 are hard to ignore Neil, and then he comes out with a beastiality comment, pretty disgusting, no wonder it was deleted…as he probably will be soon.

    • Holty01 says:

Cheers Russty. All good mate. I saw the response but can’t be bothered responding to the nonsense. They just want us to bite. However, Im not exactly sure whether to laugh at skinny’s response or feel sorry for him. To spend that amount of time to post that response to the simple request of ‘logging in so we know it’s you’ is strange, if not psychotic.

      • Holty01 says:

Lol. I think they did last year didn’t they? Or was it just agreeing with one another? Either way, I’m pumped for the season and SuperCoach season.

finished top 1% ended up winning a couple of trigs leagues in trigs happy place and i think maybe titch to scratch aswell but that leages a bit hazy

  69. Xman says:

Can anyone convince me to pick gray over heeney?

    • BrownlowBoy says:

If Wines shoulder is serious then Gray will get more mid time.

      • Xman says:

Yes but that doesn’t convince me, Heeney should up his average again due to experience/age where as gray you would expect him to slow down. “Gray will get more mid time” could mean anything really. Not trying to be rude I’m just curious if anyone can put together a good case for it.

        • Holty01 says:

Gray for me. Has proven in the past he can be elite. Heeney still to prove that. Age hasn’t slowed Gray down yet plus he is a smart player so will find the ball irrelevant of age.

          • BrownlowBoy says:

Gray has less to contend with in the Power midfield as well. He is arguably their best mid.

Sydney has Heeney, Kennedy, Parker, and then the likes of Mills, Hewett, Florent, Papley going through their and now maybe even Clarke who they got from North.

        • BomTellchambers says:

Gray is one of the best players in the competition. Heeney has the potential to be one of the best players in the competition, but it won't happen in 2019……Only thing that holds back Gray (as far as SC goes) is playing deep forward, as a mid only he would average 110+

  70. Graham says:

Can anyone tell me how to find precious years ranking history? I know last years but can't find earlier than that

    • Ja191 says:

On the supercoach app on the my team page at the top there is field, list and history – hit history then the drag down box to select which year

      • Graham says:

Thanks for answering Ja but for some reason I still can't find it that way

        • SC_Kev7 says:

Make sure you have the ‘my team’ page open in the app. Tap on history at the top which will open a new page. You can select which year history from a drop down menu top right

    • Russty_ says:

Oh the precious years…for the saints were 1966, fluked a GF, then 2009 and 10 where they could've won 2 but failed due to poxy kicking skills.

        • BrownlowBoy says:

He will get more mid time now that's for sure. I think Cerra and Brayshaw will also spend a lot more time in the middle.

Maybe Luke Ryan is relevant again?

          • TOPHAWK1 says:

I like Luke Ryan. He should hold that Freo back line together like a general this season. He is coming into his prime physically, is a good intercept mark, great by foot (kick) AND always does most of the kicking in duties. With the new kicking in rules, it should help him score significantly more SC points as he always kicks out directly. He should be seriously considered IMO.

            • _Kyle says:

Even with the kick in rule changes that wont affect ryan much. Based on last years numbers of the 107 kick ins he took, only 1 time did he kick it to himself

              • Ja191 says:

You’ve got it the wrong way round Kyle. Kick ins without kicking to yourself don’t reward points, providing Ryan now plays on those 107 kick ins will now be disposals and be a big boost to his average providing he keeps his kick in duties

    • Skindog says:

No way, might as well get Billing’s, Rich and Greene

  73. Bombers56 says:

KB's Always Right is a league I have been in the last few years, I have changed my email address this year and would like to go around again. Does that league belong to anyone on here?

  74. Blueth says:

Anyone got the info on 2018 U18 Championship SC scores?

  75. AuroraBorealis?! says:

Thoughts on Blakely (syd) and Setterfield as rookie starters in the fwd line? I think setterfield is a bit of a no-brainer but im unsure about Blakely. Cheers

    • hedski says:

An article on AFL live app came out today in relation to all clubs last year's draft selections and how they are traveling AB, it says Blakey is the most likely at Swans to push for a round one debut, currently in my side but may be pushed out for a cheaper rookie closer to the season starting.

    • Michael says:

Your decision just got a bit easier as Blakely is injured.

  76. Bombers52 says:

Thanks, I will ask over there.

  77. JohnDJ59 says:

This is my team until we know a bit more about the rookies. Def: Lloyd, Laird, Witherden, Williams, Clark, Hore. (Rookie,Rookie) Mids: Cripps, Oliver, Fyfe, Cogs, M.Crouch, Caldwell, Constable, Bewley. ( Smith, Valente, Hind ) Rucks: Grundy, Nank. ( Rookie ) Fwd: Danger, Smith, Wingard, Setterfield, McAdam, Corbett. ( Parker, Cavarra ). I am still open to having Fort as my R2 if he is going to be the Cats main ruckman.

    • gator59 says:

Looks a solid enough side mate… I don't trust Wingard and i'm leaning towards not having M.Crouch after last year when he burnt me

      • JohnDJ59 says:

Yeah gator, I only just put Wingard in, I also didn't trust him, but then I looked at his second half from last year, looked alright. I started with Heeney, then Dunkley and settled on Wingard. I did have Bont at M5, but M.Crouch looks good value if he can stay on the park, I'll see how they both go preseason before I settle that one.

        • Russty_ says:

Hey John, if you can afford to, Heeney will pay off better than Wingard this year I reckon, he's gonna go to premo this year I think.

          • JohnDJ59 says:

Hi Russty, yes I would prefer Heeney, but at the moment I only have $3,000 left in cash, a lot will depend on what rookies show up come round one.

      • JohnDJ59 says:

Hey gator, I had a good look at my team and if I want to get the GG combo all I have to do is swap Lloyd for Mills. So it's Lloyd/Nank v Mills/Gawn.

        • good move too john as mills will get mid time Sorry I cant join also saving the last one for Trigg s apologies mate good luck itsa great league

          • JohnDJ59 says:

OK thanks for letting me know Neil, I'm getting a bit of that. It does look a good move on paper but still a bit concerned about Big Max and what his role will be, paying top dollar as well and then we have Mills who is always going to play in the midfield, but ends in the backline because he is so good back there. I have a bit of thinking to do.

            • gator59 says:

Hi JD if I decide to downgrade Gawn it will be to Kreuz and hope he holds up because I reckon he's the one that'll make the most cash for upgrading… I can't see Goldy or Martin exploding price wise and you may get stuck with them all season and same applies with the Nank

              • JohnDJ59 says:

Have to admit the Rucks or at least R2 is doing my head in this year, not really sure what to do.

              • JohnDJ59 says:

I've just put Gawn in at R2 by trading out Williams from defence for a rookie, just means I now have three rookies on each of def/mid/fwd lines, so will need the rookies to turn up come round one, only have $800 left in the kitty.

              • Shake_n_bake says:

Kreuzer will be touch & go rd 1. Risk vs reward.

                • JohnDJ59 says:

Hey Shake_n_bake I noticed you were in my 'Holy Grail' League last year, code 461265, are you joining up again ? it's been a no show so far, so I'm looking for some of the regulars here to join.

                  • Shake_n_bake says:

Hey John like most im waiting for Triggs league to fall. Finished 9th in Happy place last 2 yrs burning to make the 8!!

  78. Juzzy says:

    G'Day Community.
Haven't posted here in a while as things got a bit weird last year. Still been an avid reader of the comments and fan of the podcast.

I have never put up a team before so ……

    D: J Lloyd R.Laird Z.Williams D.Roberton G.Birchall G.Logue B.McKay H.Wigg
    M: J. Macrae P.Cripps C.Oliver N.Fyfe J.Kelly G.Horlin-Smith H.Bennell L.Stocker C.Constable. N.Hind. I Mosquito
    R: B.Grundy B.Longer
    F: P.Dangerfield T.McLean T.Greene P.McCartin W.Setterfield J.Petuccelle C.Ballenden J.Corbett

Watcha think ?? I know I have around 5 injury prone mid pricers. I know I have Longer as R2. But it's January …..

Good luck to you all this season. Jus.

    • Ja191 says:

Hey mate nice to see you! The rucks are interesting could get you a big advantage over everyone else providing everything goes to plan. I like the team particularly the horlin smith pod pick he can definitely rack up the pill. A few things I wouldn’t touch Bennell with a barge pole and one other thing I’d suggest would be Dunkley instead of mclean provided he keeps the midfield role he had the late stretch last year. Hope to see you posting more!

  79. Russty_ says:

"Firstly, a player can't play on until the goal umpire has waved the flag and put it away so it wont be a matter of just grabbing the ball as soon as it crosses the line and running out for a kick"

This isn't correct, they can kick or handball it in as soon as the Goal Umpire has finished his hand signal, doesn't have to be flag waving or putting them away.

  80. TOPHAWK1 says:

    Hi Community.

Any love for Luke Ryan? Now with Connor Blakely gone as the defender/midfield player, does that put Ryan back in the picture?

    Let's have a look at the facts;
1- Averaged 90 last year with most kick in duties. (Most were direct kick ins= 0 SC points)
2- Coming into his playing prime physically and age wise.
    3- Excellent intercept mark.
    4- Great kick.
    5- Fierce tackler.
6- Played 20 games last season. (Low injury risk)

With the new kick in rules, Ryan will start scoring SC points whether he kicks out direct or plays to himself first. Makes no difference now. As he often hits targets from the kick ins, it is highly likely his SC output should increase substantially in 2019. I would not be surprised if he can build his average from 90 in 2018 to 100-105 this coming season. At $489K, he potentially represents fantastic value also.

    Thoughts ?

    • Dice_real says:

I like it Hawk. Just will he be a top 6 defender? I think he'll be in the top dozen.
I'm a big fan of Ryan and hopefully he takes most kick ins again this year, i just think they'll go with Wilson.
In saying that, Ryan i think will score very well anyway.
He's a good kick and if these rules are anything to go by, there should be more space in the back half for his precision kicks

    • JohnDJ59 says:

I don't mind Ryan, he was one of my upgrades last year, he's in the mix for me, but is competing with Witherden and Williams for a place in my team.

    • Shake_n_bake says:

And will see alot action down back!

  81. TRIGGA_HAPPY says:

So if we start Grawndy we need to cut corners somewhere???

The more i think about it these r the two rucks who will benefit most from the new ruck rules.

So may as well just lock them in because the way the scored last year imagine a rule change which may infact improve their point scoring.

So where do we save the $?
I looked in the fwd line and apart from green who has massive red flags who else as a middie screams pick me? No one jumping out? 3 rooks r a bridge too far unless they dominate JLT.

There is value in the mids and def.

I think def is the best value. But might need to miss out on lloyd, laird to get grawndy first off.

Just hope the new rules for def dont bite too hard.

With blakey now out Bewley and valente move to the front of the cue.

I'll leave u with this one.

    What about the galloping lampost?
He must benefit from the new rules. First hands on the pill.
I know he is injury prone but probably only need 6-7 games out if him to upgrade to gawn. More likely to upgrade sandi than goldy.

Leave it with you guys ….

    • _Kyle says:

Fair call trig. I have my doubts over gawn with old mate coming over from the roos. Cant imagine anyone would come across from the reserves just to play in the reserves again. I would hold off on gawn atleast until we see how the dees play their rucks in the JLT. We all remember how it affected goldy being a duo ruck. At this point in time im saving 150k and starting goldy now that he has no comp for top ruck spot. Certainly makes my other lines look that bit stronger. And if i really have to i can upgrade to gawn once hes dropped a but from that monster 700k price tag

      • skindog says:

Too much of a spend for me boys, ill try upgrade when their prices drop or stay with who im going in with, helps my other lines magnificently, looks like a shitty year already, going with my gut,,

      • TRIGGA_HAPPY says:

        Sure does
Grawndy is a stack of cash and salary cap

        Gawn and Newman
        V
        Goldy and Lloyd/laird

Just makes it look alot better

    • Russty_ says:

Giday Trigga, I reckon if you want to start Gawn and Grundy you could save money going for a few defenders who might benefit from the new kick in rules, with a few midpriced defenders like Smith or Francis, Williams, Witherden.
Also could go the so called rookie messiah Walsh who'll start round 1 and kick ass in the mids. Could be a learning experience if he flops badly, the lesson being, never start highly hyped expensive rookies again…lol
Setterfield could also be a good leg up player.
Could also try Greene, or Daniher in the fwds if they're ok to go.
I think Miles is also a pretty safe pick, not sure about Libba or Hanners.

      • TRIGGA_HAPPY says:

At the moment Rust with Grawndy can only afford williams and newman.
Slot in sandi and lloyd/laird becomes available.

I think Walsh will be worth the spend he just has the complete game.
But Walsh at M5 seems abit light on.
Reckon mids will be where the rooks r this year so giving them 3 spots on field with Walsh would be 4.

Setterfield sitting in the fwd line at F5.

Not sure how Green is going but has had a limited pre season so far and read daniher unlikely for Rd 1.

        • Russty_ says:

Yeah it's a hard one to pick this year, I think 2 rooks in the defence, 3 in the mids and 2 fwd could be the way to go this year, if any of them fail, that's when the panic sets in though, Reckon I'm going with Grundy/ Goldy too, Goldy was still going through some bad stuff last year and still averaged over 100…and he's durable which is important.
Could improve on that this year being a bit lighter and in a better place mentally.

    • Holty01 says:

Hi Trigga. I think I’ve been away with the fairies this offseason as this is the 1st I’ve heard about the new ruck rules. What are they?

      • Russty_ says:

Hey Holty, I think it's 5 points for hitout to advantage and 2 points for a straight possession after bounce down.

    • JohnDJ59 says:

Good write up Trigga, I started with Grundy/Gawn, but my def and fwd lines were too weak to justify it. Then looked at Grundy/Martin, but am now considering Grundy/Nank. I am actually hoping that Fort gets a go at Geelong so I can put him at R2, even if it's only for 6 rounds, it would give me a chance to see how Maxy is going and my def and fwds would start out a lot better.

    • gator59 says:

Hi Trigga You Can run Gawndry like I am atm….I'm running the premo backs with who should benefit with the new kick in rules… LLoyd,, Simmo and Witherden… My premo structure atm is 3, 5, 2, 3 and I like what I see

      • JohnDJ59 says:

Holy shit gator, you did well, I tried GG, but couldn't get to that amount of premo, you did well.

        • gator59 says:

Hi JD ,, I'm counting Withers as a premo but consider the rest as ubers.. ie the three down back .. LLoyd , Simmo, Witherden … mids, Macrae, Cripps, Fyfe, Neale and Yeo.. Rucks Gawndry.. Fwds ,, Danger Smith, Dunkley

          • JohnDJ59 says:

Good looking main players gator, I haven't gone with Macrae, which will probably hurt me, but I like the ones I have. My team is further down the page.

    • derek says:

it wouldn't be Supercoach if i didn't start with a dodgy R2 (TBC, Lobbe, Sandilands, Lycett last 4 years)…. with limited success. oh well, maybe this year.

Kruzer if he is ok, otherwise Fort if named or even Longer if he looks like he strong enough to compete. Mmmmmm Mummy even.

      • Lazza says:

Kreuzer is not OK, Mummy is injured too with a hammy (has been for the past 3 weeks, doesn't auger well for season longevity) … and is out for the first couple of rounds anyway through suspension. .

    • derek says:

Grundy only in 45% of teams. gawn in 35%

  82. JohnDJ59 says:

Hi Guys, I've had a non showing in one of my leagues 'Holy Grail' code 461265. I am inviting any of the teams from Gator59 and Russty leagues to join, ie Finnius, Hedski, Trigga, Tophawk, Bundeena Bunnies/Derek, Demons Delight, Rick Grimes, Keenbutclueless, Raw Tiger/Lazza plus Gator59 and Russty themselves and anyone that I have forgotten. If you are not one of the people/teams from those leagues you will be omitted so don't bother entering.

    • Holty01 says:

Hi John. Give it til tomorrow but I’m keen if none of the above mentioned enters

    • _Kyle says:

Same as holty, iv missed all the jock leages thus far so would be keen to get in a few again this year.

    • Russty_ says:

Hey John I can't mate, too committed this year…make sure it's someone who'll see it through though, cheers mate.

      • JohnDJ59 says:

No worries Russty, I'm the same, I probably left it a bit late, everyone seems to have started fairly early this year.

    • skindog says:

joined if ok DJ59, if not boot me,

    • Lazza says:

Hey John, thx for the invite πŸ‘ .. i’m In … looking forward to another great challenge.. cheers… Raw Tiger

      • JohnDJ59 says:

Happy for you to join Lazza, you kicked my butt last year, hope I can do a bit better this year, looks challenging already though.

    • gator59 says:

Have joined your Holy Grail league JD.. Cheers mate

    • TOPHAWK1 says:

Hi John. Id love to join but I am already competing in 10 leagues! Thanks for inviting me mate. Hope the "holy grail" league kicks butt this year. Cheers, TH.

      • JohnDJ59 says:

No worries TOPHAWK1 thanks for letting me know, I have a feeling I'm going to get a bit off that, I probably left it a bit late, but I wanted to give the others time over the weekend to join up and got nothing.

    • hedski says:

Cheers for the invite John, I'm in the same boat as others, only have 1 league left, I'm in a couple of leagues with you already so all good πŸ‘

      • JohnDJ59 says:

Thanks for getting back to me hedski, I have a feeling this could become a theme.

      • JohnDJ59 says:

I might have to let some others in if most of the ones I was hoping to join are already committed.

P.S, Please don't enter if you don't intend to complete the full season with full effort…otherwise, it lets everyone down, thanks.

  85. Are THE SCARY FARIES going around this year

  86. derek says:

my take on the new rule is 99.9% of the time the player will 'play-on'. the reason is the man on the mark being 10+ metres away, the kicker will almost always take one or two extra steps over the line to kick the ball. probably more to the side, run to the pocket before kicking it to the wings.

its going to be interesting to see if some players annoyingly stay just behind the line or not

i'm sure i have seen some statistics on who kicks in the most without playing on, was it Ryan and Witherton?

    • derek says:

having a look at the kick in numbers; Lloyd (56%), Hurn (62%), Witherden (51%), Short (54%), Ryan (41%) are the main men.

Although Simpson was only 37% carlton had many more kick ins.

Harbrow only had 25% but without May who took 30% his numbers could jump

      • derek says:

        Laird, Whitfield vs LLoyd, Hurn?

        • gator59 says:

In 2018, Champion Data recorded 25 per cent of kick-ins to self across the AFL, with Sydney's Jake Lloyd totalling 157 kick-ins ahead of West Coast captain Shannon Hurn (151) and Brisbane's Alex Witherden (126)._Lloyd played onto himself 28 per cent of the time, while Hurn (41.7 per cent) and Witherden (41.3) used the tactic more frequently._Only Carlton's Kade Simpson (50 per cent) kicked the ball to himself to play on more than Hurn among the top-10 kick-in players from last season._There is an overwhelming feeling among the League office and AFL clubs that players will utilise the extra space between the man on the mark to run out of the square and hit longer targets in 2019._Therefore, there is likely to be a distinct spike in the percentage of players 'playing-on' from the goal square which the AFL believes could add a new element to the game._For AFL Fantasy players, defenders who take kick-ins could be more valuable with the potential for the player to run out of the square and get an easy kick stat.

        • gator59 says:

          LLoyd and Hurn Derek

          • gator59 says:

I have put up stats from last year and waiting approval by the admins for some reason

LLoyd, Hurn, Witherden and simmo are your boys by the look

          • The Ranger says:

I'm intrigued to see what Whitfields role will be.
Someone has to take more midfield minutes with Shiel gone and with Williams back does Whitfield push into the mids more?
Or do Hopper and Taranto take up the slack?

        • Shake_n_bake says:

Derek For me its the 1st 2. Laird is rock solid in his role and l definitely think Whitfield ceiling this year will be alot higher this year due to being a mid and l can see him going fwd as an attacking mid getting on the score sheet.

last year a kick to self would have got SC points. those points are already in his average.

someone like Ryan, if he kicks the ball exactly the same as last year, but decides to run a meter out of the goal sqaure, that will could as a kick…. wow. will old habits die hard?

    • Tyruddanaut says:

It was actually Lloyd, then Ryan. Although very few of the statistics are shown, Witherden is no higher than 6th. Short, Brown and Wilson also get the nod.

Hey Derek, still hanging onto the last spot for u in my league! Just hope ur in. Let me know buddy 😊

Hi Skindog would you like to join one of my leagues called… The Rat Pack .. Code is 322190 .. Cheers mate … Just let me know your team name if interested

    • JohnDJ59 says:

Hi Skindog when you say m&m do you mean Martin and Mumford ?

      • skindog says:

Hey DJ, no mate, Martin and McEvoy, bigboy had the 4th best average and missed 5 games with a broken cheekbone, just a thought, could do some wonderful things with the little extra cash,,,

        • JohnDJ59 says:

I know what you mean, that extra cash makes the other lines look so much better. I think who we start in the rucks will shape our whole season. Not really sure which way to go. I've tried three ruck combos so far Grundy/Gawn, Grundy/Martin, Grundy/Nank, even thought about Grundy/Fort, if Fort starts round one, but that could be a problem waiting to happen the way Geelong are with their rucks.

          • skindog says:

Exactly mate, will most likely settle with the big spend, set and forget,

i have played in one draft for the last 3 years and really loved it. You really own each player. i'm still trying to master the strategy. A 'keeper' league is another level again, worry about next year, when this year is hard enough.

I'm keen if there is enough interest

    • gator59 says:

A draft league hmm count me in Fin .. should be fun… When will you know the draft league code

    • JohnDJ59 says:

Hi Finnius, sounds interesting, I've never played in a draft league before,I'll have to look up how it works. If you don't mind a rookie being in the league, I will give it a go.

      • gator59 says:

It's not as bad as you think it is JD.. You get to choose your players and no one in the league can have the same as the players that you have.. ie that's why they call it a draft side but there's a strategy behind on how to pick your players

        • JohnDJ59 says:

OK so it's a bit like the AFL draft, each has a pick per round till we have a team ?

          • Finnius says:

Yeah, so its pretty much like the AFL draft – but you have the option to keep the players for future years as well. So buying young guns could be key for years to come, as well as picking the obvious jets as well.

You can then trade with other players in the league if you want.

            • JohnDJ59 says:

Thanks Finnius, slowly getting the idea. One other thing, we still have to have players in position or is it a free for all.

    • TOPHAWK says:

Count me in Finnius! I am a bit of a novice in draft, but it is good fun. Cheers. TH

    • hedski says:

Never done draft before but I'll give it a crack, cheers Fin.

    • Shake_n_bake says:

Definitely give it a go. Novice at best but looks looks like fun.

    • Thanks for the invite Finn I am in also Gator will fill me in how it works cheers mate NDD

    • Finnius says:

I'm glad there is enough interest. League code is 766812 πŸ™‚

    • TRIGGA_HAPPY says:

Seems like Novice is the flavour of this draft

Happy to add to the flavour

Thanks for the invite Fin πŸ‘

Sure u will work out my team name. 😁

    • gator59 says:

It won't let me in either Fin..I'm already registered into one draft league and that's all I can do… I click on create or join a league and nothing happens… When I put the cursor onto create or join it stays as an arrow and won't convert to the finger sign… It's got me stuffed… Have logged out and logged back I and still no go

    • Russty_ says:

Hi Finn, I'll give it a go mate, never played it before but it should be fun..I've played the other one for several years but just set it on auto trade usually lol. I'll do some research to see how it all works.

    • JohnDJ59 says:

Hey Finn, I just had a look at the league and there are two 'Blakes Hard Wick' teams by Tom.

    • Maverick_ says:

Let me Know if a spot pops up Finnius would love to join in am a huge fan of the draft.

  89. Tyruddanaut says:

If you look at the supercoach field as a whole instead of breaking it up into positions, Grundy and Gawn make a lot of sense in the same way that Titch, Dusty and Danger did last year. Fork out a lot of money for a couple of superstars and then raise your team value and average points-dollar ratio with extra rookies.

For the same reason why we don't make our team full of mid-pricers, uber-premiums are important to our team, but rookies are more important. For this example, let's say 102k rookies average 50, mid-pricers average 10 over their price, premiums average at their price and uber premiums average 5 below their price.
If you spend 3 million on 12 players, you can do 3 700k players and 9 rookies, scoring you 815. If you get 4 500k premiums, 1 300k mid-pricer and 7 rookies, you score 770. a 45 point difference give or take a few.

For an exact example, say Gawn scores 115-125 and Grundy 120-130, which is their likely output. Spend the money on a 102k rookie (Wigg?) who will score 40-60, that's 1.5m and 275-315 points.
Now choose McEvoy (90-105 points), Martin (95-110 points) and Greene (Anywhere from 70-105 but let's say 85-95) and you have 270-310 points, 5 lower than Gawn and Grundy per round. Equals to 110 points difference for the season

    • gator59 says:

Love all this that you have done here.. I'm still running with G'n Rooks atm which includes Grundy and Gawn.. The only thing that worries me is that other big bloke being Pruess and his roll… Hopefully we'll have more of an idea from the JLT

    • derek says:

it is when Picketts, Simpkin, venables, menapoo types score 15 each……..

      • Ja191 says:

true but in saying that there's always the kelly/fritsch types which average well above 50 which evens it out

      • BomTellchambers says:

Also, once you start trading it changes everything that's when the big boys come out on top….Also Grundy is a captain option every week so double score

    • JohnDJ59 says:

Hi Tyruddanaut, I like that, we need to look at our team as a whole not just what position they play in. If Titch had been playing this year, I wouldn't have worried about how much he cost, you just had to have him in your team.I usually try to have 12 premos, so it really shouldn't matter what position they are in as long as I have around that number.

    • Finnius says:

But also all 3 of those players you mentioned dropped significantlyy in price throughout the season – Even Titch was cheap in about round 6. You can save a lot of coin whilst also investing in OTHER uber premos if you have a look at Gawn in particular. You aren't 'losing' points because you gain them in other areas of the field. I.e. Grundyy (120-130), Macrae (similar price to Gawn and average 115-130) + Wigg (40-60) is the same as Gawn, Grundy and the rookie. You get a lock mid and ruckman whilst also having a look at who the #2 ruck will be.

If you believe Gawn will be top 2 then don't worry about it, but it isn't as black and white if not.

Indeed, without Gawn I have 12 uber premos in my side + Williams: Lloyd, Laird, Whitfield, Macrae, Oliver, Cripps, Kelly, Neale, Grundy, Danger, Heeney, Dunkley.

    • Russty_ says:

      How's the Doppelganger business going?…very flattering, thanks…lol

  90. Bombers56 says:

We are all saying how the rule changes are going to give more points to Defenders and Rucks. My understanding is that there is still the 3300? points per game?
So the big question is who is going to lose points?
I personally think that the midfield will be the big losers as the ruckman will be grabbing the ball and kicking it without passing it to a midfielder to kick forward?

    • BomTellchambers says:

This is a good question and one that I haven't seen asked. Apparently defenders are going to gain appt from kick ins, key forwards will Excel with 6-6-6 and ruckmen will improve too…wtf.

Imo I don't think the defenders will improve like some are implying. For starters they can't start as a +1 at a centre bounce which will result in less intercept possessions (which are big points)

    • TRIGGA_HAPPY says:

Will be really interesting to see where the points go under new rules.
I think mids will benefit as much as any.
      Especially the receiver.

As now have to start 6 – 6 – 6 wont have the guy coming hard off the square

Ruck tap to a mid who flicks it to the outside, now with time and space he can hit up a target inside 50.

      The game has changed …

    • fatboyfat7 says:

If the rucks do that though,it stands to reason that they'll also see a reduction in their hit out to advantage scoring… Might level itself out?

I also agree with Bom Tellchambers on the defenders. I don't see the scores going up that much at all. I've posted about it before but a lot of these players taking kick-ins already played on quite a bit, the extra few times times now isn't going to make enormous difference.

  91. skindog says:

I see a lot of people on the facebook pages going with the 4 premos in def, counting on the new rule and scoring, favouring the ones who kick in most % wise, leaving their mid looking weak, a new trend or ballsy or outright insane???

    • skindog says:

Exactly how i think, more in the engine room, but are the rule changes and the scoring changes going to change how we play this wicked game of our actual even better game gets played? are we going to having to krrp looking at it differently evedrytime a rule changes etc??

    • fatboyfat7 says:

I think the available rookies on each line should be a bigger factor that the rule change at this stage.

      • JohnDJ59 says:

Spot on fatboy, we need the rookies to turn up on all lines.I will need at least three playing rookies on each of the def/mid/fwd lines. If there are more on one line and less on the other,I will have to mould my team around that.

      • TRIGGA_HAPPY says:

        Agree.
I see more in the mids at this stage so where there should be more on ground.

    • skindog says:

Spot on boys, was just noticing a little trend, thought id share, was interested on peoples opinions too

    • derek says:

      I am looking at locking in 12 keepers. 3 – 5 – 1 – 3

Then having one keeper on each line as my 'stand-by'. one of them will be included depending on where the rookies are. At the moment im thinking the forwards might be short on rookies. The Chad might get a start in the bunnies.

  92. Ktfg says:

Hey fellas let us know what you think.

Def: Lloyd, Sicily, witherden, Williams, rozee, logue, hore, with

Mids: cripps, j.kelly, Neale, Martin, merger, setterfield, stocker, bewely, e.smith, hind, Atkins

    Rucks: Grundy, goody, bines

Fwds: danger, heeney, dunkley, Parker, young, cavarra, corbet, Burgess

  93. AuroraBorealis?! says:

I wonder if Pieman is coming back this year? Haven't seen him posting in ages, did he end up getting banned over the whole Wow and 66 fiasco? @lek

  94. JohnDJ59 says:

Thought I would just put this out there, since we have been talking about the rucks quite a bit. If Fort gets picked round one, put him in at R2 but have Kreuzer at R3 since it looks like he will be struggling to make round one.Could end up making a bit of cash with both, then down the track upgrade to Gawn or whoever is the best ruckman to get in.

    • gator59 says:

You could also do that with Mummy JD.. But I think Kruez has more upside

      • JohnDJ59 says:

Have a feeling both are going to have injury issues, but it could work if Fort gets a go. I tried Grundy/Gawn today, I managed to get my 12 keepers, but just about all the rookies had to be 117,300 to 123,900 rookies and I can't see that happening, only had $300 left, so no wriggle room so to speak.

        • gator59 says:

The premos I showed to you yesty and with the rookies that I think will play still leaves me 68k for wriggle room

          • JohnDJ59 says:

Had another go, moved things around a bit, added $22,500 to the kitty. So it might work out, now we just have to see how Gawn goes preseason and if Preuss has an impact.

    • fatboyfat7 says:

And if Sweet and Fort both start?

      • fatboyfat7 says:

And just to add, there's no guarantee that just because he starts that'll he'll score well… Darcy Cameron is a good example, only played a handful of games but still never scored well. It's very risky imo.

        • JohnDJ59 says:

Hi fatboy, I have no intention of having either Fort or Kreuzer at R2 myself I just thought since so many people were thinking of Kreuzer as a R2 but were then turned off by his injury that a Fort R2/Kreuzer R3 combo might be a thought, just until they can upgrade to Gawn.

  95. Saalih Soliman says:

hey fellas, this is my first team for the year and ive put quite a bit of thought into it but still struggling with a couple selections and players. regardless here it is:

DEF: lloyd, laird, witherden, collins, wilkie, hore (burgess, wigg)
MID: cripps, oliver, kelly, neale, martin, miles, setterfield, stocker (bewley, valente, hind)
    RUC: Grundy, Goldstein (sweet)
FWD: dangerfield, wingard, de goey, mcadam, corbett, cavarra (parker, wilkinson)

still have 105.6k left. I want to fit in dunkley and heeney but may struggle with that but im not sure how to go about it, i may have to downgrade miles to a rookie and i am still not set on my d3 because there are so many options like whitfield, newman, smith, ryan, williams and so many more. Also, not sure about starting with macrae or not and i want to get in a pod like yeo or merrett but not sure whether to drop kelly or oliver but leaning towards kelly due to injury but still iffy about it. lots to think about aye.

    • JohnDJ59 says:

Hi Saalih, nice team, I would be downgrading Miles to a rookie, I'm expecting enough mid rookies to turn up to have three on the ground. I don't mind your top three defenders, the only other one I would look at is Williams.I think you need either Smith, Dunkley or Heeney in your fwd line.

      • Saalih Soliman says:

agreed about dunkley heeney or smith, but personally i prefer either dunkley or heeney but not sure which one, leaning slightly to dunkley.

  96. Rick Grimes says:

    *tumbleweeds*

  97. Dylan says:

    Hi community,
Here's an initial draft of my team. Any help would be awesome.

DEF: Lloyd, Laird, Sicily, Witherden, S. Collins, Quaynor, (Hore, Wigg)
MID: Cripps, Fyfe, Kelly, D. Martin, B. Smith (WB), Setterfield, Constable, Bewley, (E. Smith, Hind, Hayes)
    RUC: Grundy, Gawn, (Sweet)
FWD: Dangerfield, Heeney, Wingard, Blakey, McAdam, Cavarra, (Corbett, M. Parker)

    Thoughts? Cheers

    • skindog says:

Too much spend in the defs for mine mate, might want to think about dropping one of Lloyd, Sicily, Laird or witherden, and get another premo un your mids,,

    • GloryDays94 says:

Be careful with Laird this year. His output may not be as big as last year with the new kick in rules

      • gator59 says:

I agree with you GD .. Fu%$en new rules every year.. I can't think of any other sport where there is so many rule changes .. All to try and make the game quicker

  98. RoyWetard says:

    Macrae or Gawn?

  99. skindog says:

Tommy Mitchell back at training this morning,,,,,

  100. gator59 says:

Been thinking about the new rule changes and which club will adapt quicker and I will say the Swans,,, Because if there's a loophole anywhere they'll exploit it to the max and do it better than any other club… Maybe we should load up with Swans players

  101. Ralph says:

Roberton D4, Dunkley F3 (2 fwd rooks on field) and 3 mid rookies onfield

    OR

Newman D4, Miles M6 (2 mid rookies on field) and 3 fwd rookies on field.

And yes I understand that we will need to look at JLT roles before making decisions but what are the community’s first impressions?

  102. derek says:

I'll set up a Cash League. Nothing too rich. $20 per player should add a bit of interest. Winner take all.

  103. TRIGGA_HAPPY says:

    NDD

How is KK going at dees training so far?

  104. Wally Brando says:

    Grundy / Sloane

    or

    Goldy / Macrae

    ??

    • Tyruddanaut says:

Don’t love Sloane but you can grab Macrae if he dips and you can’t do the same with Grundy. Option 1

    • RoyWetard says:

I've been thinking about this same question but with Gawn in place of Grundy. I suggest option 1 as a ruck scoring 130 is more valuable than a mid scoring 130.

  105. skindog says:

Wine's out for 8-10 weeks, Gray's ownership % just went up,,,

  106. GloryDays94 says:

So who is going Fyfe to start?
I am a bit 50/50 atm since he usually doesnt play a whole season

    • Rick Grimes says:

Been burnt a couple times. He'll get a lot of attention. Think I'll wait and see if there's any life left.

    • skindog says:

Hey Gator, i was going him at the start but pulled him for that reason, never a full season, one less hassle,

    • skindog says:

Sorry Glory, my bad, didnt realise i typed Gator, brain fade, sorry

    • derek says:

he is a really good pick

      • Lazza says:

Derek, yours was reply # 666… I'm now steering clear of Fyfe … πŸ™‚

    • Ralph says:

Fyfe's first 3 rounds are against North, GC and the Saints. He could almost be averaging 150 going into round 4…

      • skindog says:

Thanks Ralph, now im second guessing myself, will go up in price too! shit,,,

      • Matt says:

But fyfe will be tagged round one by jacobs

        • Ralph says:

Last time Freo played North Fyfe scored 163 so I don't see why you would be concerned about the tag

          • DavidC says:

Jacobs only played 13 games last year, not sure if he played against Freo. Was Fyfe tagged that game?

            • Ralph says:

Jacobs played and scored 111. Not sure if he was tagging or not, would need to find a north supporter with a good memory πŸ˜‰

    • skindog says:

Cheers Glory, yeah will miss some scores but he'll miss games, not a headache i want!!

  107. The mighty wokkas says:

    Thoughts on my team-

Def- Simmo, Witherden, Williams, Roberton, Williamson, Hore, (Kelly), (Wigg)
Mids- Macrae, Crippa, Fyfe, Neale, Martin, Miles, Setterfield, Stocker, (Constable), (Bewley), (Valente)
    Rucs- Grundy, Fort, (Bines)
Fwds- Danger, Heeney, Dunkley, Wingard, Burgess, Mosquito, (Corbett), (Cavarra)

Also what do you guys think about owning Roberton due to his injury, and Fyfe and Miles. Also let me know what you think about having fort as r2 and possibly trading in Greene. Cheers

    • Rick Grimes says:

You think Fort starts? I've been playing around with him in there, certainly makes things fun.

  108. JohnDJ59 says:

Hey finn there are two 'Blakes Hard Wick' teams by Tom in our Draft league.

    • BrownlowBoy says:

Not sure what happened John but I removed myself

      • JohnDJ59 says:

OK thanks for letting me know BB.By the way if you haven't maxed out in your leagues I have the Holy Grail, code 421265 if you were interested.

        • BrownlowBoy says:

          Thanks mate I'll jump in!

Edit: league code doesn't seem to work?

          • JohnDJ59 says:

Sorry BB I hit the wrong number and didn't check, the right one is 461265

  109. _Kyle says:

Havnt heard much about sicily yet. Anyone keen on the bloke? Bit of a loose cannon but when hes on the park hes a bloody pearler. Also another year in and theres chance we may see him a bit more mature. Currently sitting at D2 for me behind lloyd but theres still every chance that changes

    • AuroraBorealis?! says:

I think he'll be cheaper later on in the season, so im gonna wait until a bit later on and get him as an upgrade

    • KeenButClueless says:

I am also considering whether the new 6-6-6 starting structure might impact on intercept marking players. Maybe I am overthinking it, but at his high starting price, plus the fact that those with kick in duties might benefit more, I am not sure he is worth it to begin. Probably an upgrade target during the season, but I don’t think I will start with him

  110. Sharkmove_King says:

Hi guys I'm back again! You probably remember as the guy who told everyone to get on Josh Dunkley mid season last year!

I've got a couple of guys I'm looking at this year for the ultimate SHARKMOVE of 2019. It would be too early to name them now because we all need to see how the JLT pans out….However I have 2 mid priced players nobody is talking about. 1 you would keep all year and the other you would trade at his bye week (Rnd 14)

Good luck to all and make sure you stick around for the SHARKMOVE release only on this site (thank me later Jock)

  111. KeenButClueless says:

I am finding when I try to respond to a comment that I get a message that says my comment needs to be cleared by the administrator. Then it never appears? Am I on some sort of banned list? I know suggesting Fort as R2 was out there, but I didn’t think it was bad enough to get banned!

    • Holty01 says:

LoI. Well I might be in trouble to as he is currently my r2 as well

    • skindog says:

      You guys are craaaaaaaazy

      • KeenButClueless says:

Probably. I just remember how crazy Sandi-Witts sounded a couple of years ago. Until it wasn’t crazy and was a winning move. Maybe because I missed it that I am trying too hard to duplicate it, but it’s January! And I do think there is a germ of an idea there, which this community might take to another level

        • Holty01 says:

It really depends how many rookies are named rd1 as well. If we are short in the forward line, maybe we will have to go an extra premo there and the fort at R2 won’t seem that silly. We won’t know for sure until those rd1 teams are named. But it is exciting of the possibility of having a rookie ruckman playing rd1. Can’t remember the last time we had that option

    • Lazza says:

It’s happened to me few times KBC … no idea why

    • hedski says:

I'd make an intense debate account keen, seems to make things easier and no-one can write crap with your handle.

    • Lekdog says:

This setting won't stay off, I think once I've ticked you off once though you'll be sweet

  112. Rakesh Mohan says:

488616 for 2100+ and 807210 for freshers. We play for fun and get sucked in by arm chair experts. End up spending money like Carlton on rejects who either get injured or run us out of trades. Whether you call it Mangrook Magic or Footy ….. it is the game we wait immediately after GF. And those Champions with 2300 plus record, please stay away and allow us to have fun.

  113. Amicrazy says:

Is any one else crazy enough that they’re considering Mummy at R1 and Fort at R2, and having Sweet at R3 to cover the first couple of rounds while Mummy is out? It sure makes my other lines look good…

    • skindog says:

      nope, just you

    • Whitey says:

Yes you are crazy but a couple of years ago I started with a cheap Sandilands and Witts and that worked out pretty good.

    • Tyruddanaut says:

That’s too crazy because Mumford won’t play the first 3 rounds and Fort might not even play a round. Let alone Sweet who won’t play early, youre gone mate

    • Sharkmove_King says:

I'm crazy myself but I'd even say that's a stretch. Assuming Sweet & Fort are named Round 1 take them both with a big boy (Grundy or Gawn). If Mumford smashes it, trade one of the rookies for him Round 5.

  114. Tyruddanaut says:

I’m considering Zac Fisher. Explosive, having a great preseason and likely to get midfield time early.

    • GloryDays94 says:

One to watch in JLT for sure.

    • Sharkmove_King says:

I'm sensing you have the SHARKMOVE blood too. I like Fisher, I like him alot….however AFL.com.au says he is currently injured (only short term) and also I don't like the fact Pickett is injured and Carlton have drafted some midfielders. I forecast Fishers midtime could decrease in 2019 due to a needs basis.

    • Holty01 says:

I grabbed him last year. Maybe one year too early

    • Lekdog says:

Great for draft, don't see a massive spike from him this year but understand the thought process

  115. Michael says:

thoughts on T Adams? Average like 111 for the second half on the season including a big finals series?

    • Ja191 says:

Only worry is their number of good midfielders similar to geelong, hard to see one of them averaging high

    • fatboyfat7 says:

In my team at M5 Michael and have been keeping it quiet.

As you pointed out, when moved back into the guts from half back last year he scored brilliantly. Even go back one season further, a 107.5 average. At 523k, def worth a crack.

  116. TOPHAWK1 says:

Hi Community. Does anyone have some up to date intel on the progress of Grant Birchall?

Is he running again? Is he still on a modified program? Is he training with the main group now? Will be be ready to play some JLT? He is a bloke I am keeping a close eye on. If he finally gets over his right knee issues, and is named to play round one, he surely must be a LOCK at $205K. His experience and ability is unquestioned and at 30 years of age still has some decent footy left in him.

    • SW Roosters says:

Birchall gets a bit of a mention in this article: https://www.afl.com.au/news/2019-01-30/troublesom

Back running and doing some change of direction work after a setback and knee surgery in December.

    • derek says:

Put a line through him mate.

'Grant Birchall also moving towards returning to training with the main group in the next month. Birchall is tracking towards being able to return in May or loosely anywhere from about round four through to eight. Birchall did not play a game last year and only managed five matches in 2017.

He is expected to join in ball work in the next month after he had further surgery pre-Christmas to clean up his knee following the posterior cruciate surgery last year.

“He is going as well as we hoped after he went back in pre-Christmas for a clean up.

“I would expect he will join back in ball work but not full training in the next week or so. He has been running for two weeks before the recent four-day break.“

Hawthorn typically requires players to be in full training with the group for 10 weeks before being available to play. Birchall is still several weeks from resuming full training with the group.

“He will join in some skills but he might be another month away from full training, it might be sooner but we will not be pushing him. He is tracking where we thought he would be after he had his surgery pre-Christmas,” Wright said.

Hi Toppa I just rang a mate that's in the know down at the hawks and says Birchall is on a modified program and looking for him to be named come round 4 to 6

    • skindog says:

Had some cartilage cleaned out just before Chrissy, he'll be a while yet TopHawk

    • The Ranger says:

Too much of an injury risk to put in from the start methinks

If Preuss plays what are the expectation as to what Gawn will average?

  118. AFL Blues says:

    Here's my team… A response would be nice! πŸ˜€

  119. JohnDJ59 says:

Is anyone thinking about Weideman $242,900 as an F4, priced as an expensive rookie, could av 80-85 this year no worries.

    • BrownlowBoy says:

I believe Damo was writing an article about him!

    • derek says:

that is a very awkward price. however i think forward rookies might be very hard to find this year, so as a 'expensive rookie' he might be worth a look.

i'm looking at Greene at $110k more if he is fit, if not probably go with 4 guns in forward line, plus Setterfield and one rookie (if we can find even one)

      • JohnDJ59 says:

Hi derek, I did have Wingard at F4 for a while, but I decided to go with Smith at D4 instead of a rookie, so couldn't afford a good F4, but I'm still not prone to having three genuine rookies in the fwd line, so looking for someone who should be a regular in their team, but not cost more than $250,000

  120. derek says:

    Dusty VS Fyfe?

    save $55k

Had Fyfe is team from start, but just seeing people talking about his injury history. Dusty missed just 5 games in whole career – 9 seasons.

Can't see Dusty going back to 2017 average, but should look at his 2015, 2016 average of $107ish

    • The Ranger says:

I'm sticking with Fyfe in the hope he'll get more mid time than ever.

    • hedski says:

I have both ATM but considering Neale/Kelly for Fyfe, I'm a bit scared to leave Fyfe out in case he goes gangbusters at the start.
Dusty is a steal for that price.

      • derek says:

i'm looking at a team with Grundy and Gawn in the rucks, to find the extra cash; Fyfe becomes Dusty, Kelly becomes MCrouch, Greene becomes a rookie.

        team doesn't look too bad:

Lloyd, Witherden, Williams, Quaynor, Logue, Scrimshaw (Wilkie, Wigg)

Cripps, Oliver, Dusty, MCrouch, Merrett, Stocker, Constable, Hind (Collier-dawkins, Bewley, Valente)

        Grundy, Gawn (Fort)

Dangerfield, DSmith, Heeney, Wingard, Setterfield, Cavarra (Mosquito, Koschitzke)

        • JohnDJ59 says:

I like it derek, your top three defenders are the same as mine, I did have Laird but swapped him for a rookie so I could bolster my fwd line which is also very close to yours.I also have three of your top four mids. I did have Gawn as my R2 but I'm going to wait and see on that one, I just replaced him with a player I have never had in my team before, Goldy. I'm currently mulling over my M4, either Cogs, Bont or Dusty, who would you recommend derek.

          • derek says:

i doubt very much i will start with Gawn at R2, just not in my DNA

I was thinking Kruzer, but read he had a bit of a setback.

of the three you mentioned, Dusty has shown he has the most upside. Bont will spend most of his time as a forward this year, so many doggy midfielders and i think Cogs will get attention without Shields

            • JohnDJ59 says:

Thanks for the reply derek, when you spell it out like that, Dusty does seem the obvious choice. I really would like to have Gawn in my team again, I've started with him the last three years, so it's going to be strange him not being there, but his price is just so huge when there is a ? over what roll Preuss is going to play.

        • TOPHAWK1 says:

Nice Derek. Not a big spend down back. I like that. Zerrett and Crouch picks are terrific. Both great value. Gawn might be a bit pricey with Pruess now hovering about. I am sticking with the non Pruess beneficiary. (Goldy). Wingard is carrying an injury. I was starting him but I am weary now, but a sneaky replacement option…..James Worpel. Cheers

      • agree Hedski Dusty is too much value to leave out but cant ignore Fyfe I hate to say it but Clarry will go. Merrett fyfe neale dusty and Harmes for NDD and if Gawn goes Cripps gets a gig

        • derek says:

i do like Oliver, but there is now a slight injury question over his shoulders. Viney will be back this year might take some of the inside points away, same price as fyfe and Kelly. I had all three about a week ago, tough call.

        • TOPHAWK1 says:

I am another coach watching Harmes. He could have a huge year!! Bargain at $453K

    • Bombers56 says:

Won't go near Dusty especially after last year.
Hearing that Fyfe is training well and I am hoping he gets off to a flyer.
But my sneaky pick is Hunter from the Bulldogs, I had him for the last 5 rounds last year and I was very happy with him.

    • TRIGGA_HAPPY says:

No fyfe or oliver for Mr Trigga to start

Read Dusty was just going through the motions last year thinking anither flag was just a case kf when.

      Got himself superfit and hungry.

      Im on him.

      • TOPHAWK1 says:

Big call Trigga!! I would start with at least one of Oliver or Fyfe. Dusty is growing on me as a starter. At that price you have to have serious reasons to leave a guy like that on the shelf. Absolute bargain. Knowing Dusty, he probably feels guilty after a mediocre 2018 and blames himself a bit for that Prelim defeat against the pies. "If only I had have worked and trained a bit harder, things could have been different". He could come out smoking in 2019. Cheers mate.

    • Lazza says:

Dusty is in my team.. my 2nd lock after rips. Dusty is rated #1 player by Champion Data for good reason. .. was carrying an injury for most of last year and will give you 22 games this year with much more time mid field.. Fyfe is a gun, but toss a coin on his full season contribution… Fyfe will also have max opposition cover this year without Neale

  121. JohnDJ59 says:

A call out to BrownlowBoy The correct code for Holy Grail league is 461265.

  122. Yoo says:

hey community this is my first team suggestions will help πŸ™‚ 47k in the bank

DEF: Loyd, laird, williams, witherdern, wigg, rozee, /hoore, watson
MID: cripps, kelly, martin, merret, neale, stocer, setterfield, bewerly/ hind, atkins, smith
    Ruck: Grundy, Goldy/ bines
Fwd: Dangerfield, heeney, dunkley, parker, cavarra, young/ corbett, burgess.

    • derek says:

thats solid for a Grundy/Gawn team.

depends where the rookies land, you may have to switch a Laird to a DSmith

      • gator59 says:

You might need glasses Derek… It says Grundy/Goldy

        • derek says:

why is there no edit button anymore?

          • hedski says:

I don't think you can edit if somebody replies to your post.
Could you please flick me an email or just post here to confirm my cash league payment went through Derek? Cheers.

  123. Such is Fyfe says:

Hey guys, there's a handful of spots in a $100 cash league I'm organising. I'm just posting this to gauge if there's any interest from the Jock Reynolds community, if there is comment below and I'll put my email down with the steps to add you to the FB group/league.

    18 entrants x $100 fee = $1,800 prize pool as follows.

    Champion – $625
    Runners up – $300

    Minor premier – $100
Highest score of the year – $100
Consolidation award (Winner of Bottom 8) – $100

$25 weekly to the highest score of the week, in the unlikely event the highest score of the week is tied both will be paid $25 and the latter comes off the champion’s prize end of season = $25 x 23 = $575

Aiming and expecting to fill all 18 spots, but it is my first year running my own cash league so unsure if all spots will if they don’t: back up plan would be in the event a non-paying floater wins any of these awards would go to the next best paying player in the league.

Let the best man (or woman) win!

  124. Finnius says:

What do we all think Williams could average this year? He is a value pick only as a keeper, and I can’t see him going more than 90-95. He’ll be a top 10 defender, but not sure if he can become top 6.

    • The Ranger says:

I'm starting him at D3 and if he ends up as my D6 av95 I'll be pretty happy with that.
I don't aim to get the top six as that's pretty unlikely, just six of the top ten.

      • JohnDJ59 says:

He's my D3 as well Ranger, was my D4 but I had to trade Laird out due to a weak fwd line, so he moved up one.

    • derek says:

lock him in to your starting team. he will outscore BSmith and DRich

      • hedski says:

I have Burn Man Smith at D4…….

        • Skindog says:

I’ve had him in and out but I have a rule, no burnmen and no midpricers, him and Libby coming back from injuries, granted Smith got back for a couple at the end last year, but then he’s had holidays, won’t touch em

    • Lazza says:

ZWilliams is priced @ 74 pts… starting price of Top 10 is 90 pts and for Top 6 is 95 pts..
      whilst he didn’t play in 2018 his starting price was $516,200 / 94 pts…he finished 2017 with an average of 93.9 pts…
Based on his past performance he will be Top 10 easy and more than likely Top 6. Either way he is the cheapest DEF keeper you will get .

    • TOPHAWK1 says:

I am starting with Zac Williams at this point. If he is in the groove during the JLT, he is a LOCK come round 1.

  125. JohnDJ59 says:

I hate to say it, but I'm thinking of not starting with both Oliver and Gawn due to their price and putting Brayshaw and Goldy in their place. What do people think of this move. Will be hard to do since both have been the bedrock of my team the last two and three years.

    • Yes me too jd. and your replacements are spot on Going to be difficult but I would look at Harmes as well NDD

    • Lazza says:

Agree… I’m not starting with Oliver, not because of his price but because of the nature of his ops and his managed pre-season.. I’ll watch him till his bye and pick him up then if travelling ok. Gawn is a wait and see as well… … whilst he got through last year that was only his 2nd out of 8 that he managed 22 games.. I also think Weideman will have a huge impact this year, and will take some of Gawn’s load, esnpecially up fwd. And tm not even considering any impact from Preuss…
Actually, as my team stands, I have no Melb players..

      • JohnDJ59 says:

Hi Lazza, when you put it that way, with Oliver's managed pr-season and the fact the Dees are looking to spread Gawns load, which I was also worried about and the reason I thought their price was a bit on the high side, it makes sense to wait and see. I'm also considering Weiderman as a F4/F5 if the rookies don't turn up, come round one.

    • TOPHAWK1 says:

Hi John. I like it. There are points and cash upside in Goldy. (No Pruess and he is $150K cheaper). The exact opposite applies for Gawn. Rational calculated decision: Todd Goldstein at R2.

Clayton Oliver is a beast yet pricey. Remember Angus Brayshaw is one serious head knock away from retirement. James Harmes is one not to overlook. Could be in for a big season.

      Cheers

      • JohnDJ59 says:

Hi TOPHAWK1 I really did want to start with the Grundy/Gawn combo, in fact I still have it, but the more I looked at the rest of my side, I could see it just wasn't going to work, not at the start anyway. On the Brayshaw pick, which I haven't set in stone yet, I thought as long as he wore the helmet he was OK.

  126. Skindog says:

I’ve gone the WORPEDO in the fwdline, had spare cash, averaged 79 last season off 9 games, Mitchell down, he’ll step up, maybe not a keeper, but if he can average 85-95 for $395k, I’m in, he has to step up, simple?

    What you guys think??

  127. gator59 says:

Is Walsh that good that we should be starting him.. A big spend to put him in or should we be looking for better value else where with the rookies in the midfield

    • Skindog says:

Hey gator, ( got it right this time, saw you laughing haha) they always get hyped, I don’t over priced rookies, maybe Setterfield if he’s fit? That’s tops for me, most of the time don’t make enough cash or don’t score well, you get the odd one bit I’d rather miss out the odd one and get ones that fatten fast for the slaughter, in saying that, Rankine has me interested a little, kid can play, that’s going to be a last minute call that one,??

      • gator59 says:

Thanks Skinny.. I was just wanting other peoples thoughts on him.. It's just how the media are pumping him up and saying he's a must have… The way I look at it is you can make more cash off a 123k player than the top end rookies

        • JohnDJ59 says:

Hi Skindog and gator, I have him at M6 just for now, I'm hoping I don't have to use him, that enough 117,300 – 123,900 rookies turn up.

    • The Ranger says:

Can't see myself stumping up 200K for him gator.
Unless he pumps out 4 tons over the JLT and the first two rounds.
      I'll jump on then.

  128. SHU says:

brayshaw, bont, yeo or merret? i want to have pods but am struggling. not sure who to fit for who.

current midfield is macrae, cripps, neale, yeo, martin, setterfield, stocker, bewley (atley, ling, hind)

also thinking about starting with fyfe because freos first 3 games are insane but still not sure about his longterm fitness.

also, who is thinking a bit crazy and is tempted by lobb…?

  129. Maverick_ says:

How do we feel about Miles, Libba & hanners? do we start one? two?
last year i started Coniglio (you beauty!) & libba (buuuuuurrrnnn)
currently have miles locked in but tempted by libba again… oozes so much class when his up n going

    • The Ranger says:

I have Miles too at the moment but Libba is tempting eh Mav?
Where's Northernsoul74? He's good for inside info on the Dogs so I wonder if he's starting him?

  130. Mark says:

My first draft, open to all constructive feedback –

DEF: Laird, Whitfield, Witherden, Mills, Scrimshaw, Burgess (Hore, Wigg)
MID: Macrae, Cripps, Kelly, Fyfe, M.Crouch, Stocker, Hind, Bewley (Valente, Smith, Hayes)
    RUC: Grundy, Fort (Sweet)
FWD: Danger, Heeney, Dunkley, Wingard, Setterfield, Cavarra (Parker, Corbett)

Reports are that Geelong are trialling Fort as ruckman and Stanley up forward so that frees up a lot of cash elsewhere. Also like the look of McCluggage but unsure how to fit him in.

    • The Ranger says:

A few people seem to be toying with Fort at R2 Mark…if looks good now but what's the plan if he only gets two or three games?
You can't trust a Geelong ruckman as far as you can throw one.

  131. NoLanguage96 says:

Robbie Gray instead of Dunkley? No Wines or Wingard, surely Hinkley unleashes him in the guts to start the year.

  132. Bells says:

LOVE the intro music. Spot on.
