Happy Ending – 3rd Week of the AFL Finals
This weekend was do or die, no second chance anymore. If you can’t stand the heat then maybe you are better off planning Mad Monday.
Demons v Hawthorn
The old proven finals contender up against the young up and comer. This game like most was decided by opportunity. Hawks had plenty of chances especially in the 2nd when then kicked 6 points and even late in the game when Gunston smashed the ball into the post but just didn’t make the most of their chances.
The demons on the other hand took their chances whether that be a torpedo that went so far it had frost on it that resulted in Tmac goal or big Maxy defying the time off ground bench management system and using his nouse to stay on that big longer going up against roughead giving the demons an easy clearance that gave them another goal. This team is all about pressure, risk and reward.
Umps didn’t help with some howlers on both sides but the taking the knees has to take the cake. Surely this should only apply if the guy going for the ball slides into the legs of a player going for the ball (so second to the ball) and not when a guy is on the ground with the ball and a player falls over the top of them??
The Demons were the eventual winner and travel to WA to take on WC next week – this has left many asking “Why not us”? Anywhere, anytime.
As for the hawks well we know there will be something in the pipeline (there always is) so we will wait and see….
Pies v GWS.
Memo GWS this is a final you have to turn up from the first bounce. Pies kicked away first quarter (should have been a lot further ahead if they had a better conversion rate), this would prove decisive, GWS never really recovered – Game over.
Shout out to Maynard who did is best take on a Michael Jackson impression with a twist as he wore his green glove all game.
Not sure why Victorian teams are so keen on Shiel ? Again he had a so so game with an ordinary disposal efficiency they should look at his mate in Whitfield – electric in the back half.
Pies won the game and now set up an AFL promoters dream with a final against the reigning premiers on Friday night. Good luck getting a ticket to that one.
Borealis joined the winners circle taking out week 2. His team finished with a score of 1,347 for the round which was 15 points ahead of Finnius in second place. Lucky that the team was locked out and you couldn’t swap out Treloar eh?
The table for the top 5 scorers for Round 2 can be found below:
Nice to see Lek in there with some left field selections. To see how your team performed be sure to check the graph and table in the Round 2 spreadsheet.
Similar tale this week – those teams that didn’t have Green who bombed with a 27 finished up the top of the leader board. Why do we suckered in by Tobias?
Best captain pick was Max Gawn with the Capt Obvious team nailing this selection. Lachie Whtifield was the highest scorer for the round – no one had the captain Guernsey on Lachie.
Well we are half way – how is your happy ending looking?
The leaders at this stage are:
Must say hats off to team Borealis who not only took out week 2 but is leading the way with a score of 3,030 after two rounds. Borealis is the only team over 3,000 points after two rounds which when taking the captain into account is an average of 100 points per player. Considering some of the scores the players have put up that is an amazing effort.
It is gonna take some serious strategic thinking to catch Borealis from here.
Again if you want to know how your team is going overall look in the spreadsheet under the graph and table in the TOTAL SC SCORES tab.
Unfortunately this week we had 3 teams who didn’t submit a team and other teams who either didn’t put in a captain or selected a captain in a position that has already been used. A couple of other teams still had JOM in their team, gotta make sure you check those final teams!
We all should know the rules by now so I am not going to post them again, if you need to check back in the last article for a run-down of the rules.
Week 3 of Finals: (From 4 Teams participating – Maximum of 3 players from each team):

I have created a new spreadsheet for week 3 of the finals which can be found on the link below.
You have until the first bounce on Friday to submit you teams.
Please enter your team in the same spot as the graphs are linked to each team.
Please ensure you select your captain from an area of the ground that you have not used before. I have made a note on each team the captain choice used in the first two games.
A couple of mottos for this weeks finals:
Tiges V Pies – “If it bleeds it can be killed”
Demons v Eagles – “Esprit de Corps”
Gone to my happy place back in a few….
