PODCAST: THE VINDICATION OF LEKDOG
Podcast: Play in new window | Download
Nic Naitanui has done his ACL, which is devastating news for the big man, and for football in general. Unfortunately for the whole bunch of Supercoachers, that means a trade. Who to trade him to? Well, are we glad that you asked.
Lekdog also has a big old discussion about how good he is, Patch has a bit of a rant, we discuss some surprise packets from the year and talk a lot – A LOT – of fluff. We know you love fluff, so we absolutely stuffed the pod full of it. Enjoy.
Dear everyone tweeting about potentially massive #Supercoach scores on Saturday,
Why must you tempt fate like this? Why?
Regards,
Patch— Patch (@PatchToTheMax) July 15, 2018

Cheers mate <3
Thanks Corey
Was out all day Sunday so I didn't make any comments about getting a big score lol, hoping they maybe up the trades to 32 next year?
It'd be helpful, the game has changed and there are more injuries than ever these days.
We should all campaign to make that happen Rusty. 32 still means you aren't guaranteed 2 a week, which is good, but it does provide more insurance given the heightened amount of injuries in today's game. I think we all feel more struck by injury than we have before and I personally wouldn't have got to full premo with 4 injury trades left right now and survived the byes had I not had luck with the likes of Richards and Ronke making much more cash than I envisioned.
I reckon we should have 20trades only. That would mean use wisely and all the sides would not have extremely similar sides making it more of a challange
agree, should have less trades, not more. 24 would be about right.
When I first started playing it was 24, and there's a reason why they upped it to 30, there would've been too many dropping off and giving up 3/4 though the season if it was a bad injury year, I'm ok with 30 but 2 extra shouldn't offend the purists too much, because the game has changed , there are more injuries per week than ever now.
I like 30, people need to hold their injuries sometimes now. It is part of being disciplined and at the end of the season those players who have held off get the reward. I say that with only 3 trades left though lol..
Same here Boysh!…lol
Agreed. I still have 7 left at full premo with premo cover across forward and mid lines. Have to be conservative. Don't chase points. All the things that separate the good players from the bad ones.
Mate I would be super keen to see your side and trades history.
I'm happy with 30 but I'd like to see them add 3 trades that can only be used for LTI's i.e if someone is out for more than 4wks.
No
Normal trades can be used for LTI's… Why add an unnecessary restriction?
Its not restrictive to add trades.
You'd be able to use those LTI trades in addition to the two you would normally have in a round.
With 20 trades you'd have about 10 trades to upgrade your team with the rest spent on injury, you'd upgrade about 3-4 spots and be stuck with a player who failed to be a premium.
I like the 30 trades Russty. You start increasing it and it becomes far less about skill and more like fantasy where u trade 2 every week. Ive been hit hard with injuries this year like most of us but am now sitting at full premo with limited trades left. I think too many of us start trading when short term injury happens. Just need to hold trades and be patient as i would say there are a lot of us (myself included) who have made trades where really we didnt need too.
i like the idea of only best 18. same amount of players, more on bench less on field.
I'm clearly the outlier who thinks we should go back to 24….. I liked the discipline it brought. 30 is trade central.
In SuperCoach has there only been 2 trade amounts 24 and 30?
As long as I've known it which is like about 11 or 12 years.
Back in the day with 24 trades you needed to be real frugal. Lets say you start with 14 keepers. You need another 8 keepers, so each rookie upgrade has to be strictly a 1 up and 1 down, that's 16 trades leaving you 8 for injuries, say about 1 every 3 weeks. Back then there wasn't the bye round issues like we have now, so I don't mind a few extra. 24 trades really makes it more important to chose reliable players and to also have the fortitude to stick good players on the bench for a few weeks when injured/suspended. Alternatively, just give us a bigger squad (like IRL teams) (more bench) to manage the bye rounds better and get rid of the best 18 business. If you want to trade each week play fantasy.
So annoyed robbie gray was knocked out. That cost me a win i lost by 25 points.
When Fyfe went down I had him as Captain and went down by 1 point. :'(
Yeh I had Gray and josh Kennedy! Lost by 40 odd
Have 5 trades left 108 k holding bont, going for rank more than leagues. Do I trade him this week to Mccrae/ Cripps or keep holding till he's back then upgrade a Parker instead? Ranked 3000 so not great but would love to get another top 1000 finish
have 5 trades and 170k in the bank, do i go nic nat to grundy and use 3 trades to get final premo mid so i can move rocky to bench or go to stef martin and only use the 2 trades to get final mid, saving 2 for finals, am confirmed top 4 in my league.
Grundy has a tough run home and Steph's going great at the moment. Conserve the trades and go Steph or even Goldy.
Agree with David, Stacky. Blokes will start falling like flies now. Trades are golden at this point
Have a look at who you might be playing come finals and then decide.
Goldy has a good run thru finals.
Should I trade out savage for lloyd ? Who will average more ?
no, Webster out will only help him
Wait and see on Sicily, under an injury cloud.
I think Lloyd will average more but it's a luxury trade so you'd want to make sure that's the worst of your problems.
And that you have enough trades left to cover injuries.
Sicily possibly out this week with a broken wrist
is it a bit risky to have no trades for the rest of the season – lol
Community,
I have a massive decision ahead…
My trade outs are Doedee & Nic Nat.
Which option:
OPTION 1
Trade in:
Webster & Grundy
(Not including Webster’s injury affected Round 13 score of 13, his season avg is 99)
OPTION 2
Tom McDonald & Stef Martin
Option 1. Easy.
Webster out with groin. I have him and he keeps breaking down. Saints won’t make finals so I would avoid him as they might just rest him at years end.
Sicily getting scans to check for a fractured wrist
Could be six weeks if it's fractured, including a little break like a scaphoid.
I might finally get Lloyd into my team!
Laird missed only a week I think with a broken wrist so fingers crossed it's low grade
Laird missed 2 weeks + the bye, so even low grade could be 2-3
Ah crap
Oh please No, I don’t have any cover in defence! I have Ridley and Mirra on the bench
Mirra could be his replacement? Ridley close, always named on extended bench so is an outside chance to return fingers crossed
That's a wrap for me boys, Nic Nat with no cover and no trades. Good luck, see you all next year!
Bad luck Mac, I'll be probably joining you soon with 3 trades and still 2 rookies on field, this years been a tough one
Same mate. Now have to cover Sicily with Boak and Ahern loop
Bad luck mate. See ya next year.
Why would you rely on Nic Nat lmfao…
Oh you're all heart ain't ya?…he's had a great year…more high scores than low ones, maybe he kept him because he was performing for him, and having him enabled him to strengthen all his other lines.
Is it just me or is my bench the ugliest thing I've seen in awhile? Where is the cover!!
Confirmed Sicily 6 weeks
Source? And that sucks!
It's confirmed. Stick a fork in him if you've got trades left
Kade Simpson here I come!
Goodbye to my last trade
Lloyd, Simpson, Savage, Yeo, Sicily and Laird.
Who do I get in for Sicily?
Webster
Hurley or Luke Ryan.
I’m going hunt. Don’t get Webster, he’s out again and unreliable
Hurn
F#ck you Supercoach. More injuries!!! Players going down left, right and center….
I've got Sicily JPK & Gray. It's only Tuesday FFS
Same 🙁
Sicily, JPK and NicNat for me…someone out there has all four…
How many trades left Ranger?
5 before trading this week. You?
Might have a look at Sicily – Brayshaw, should get more mid minutes with Viney out.
5 also. Looking for more news on JPK. If he's cooked I'll go back to Macrae more than likely
i'm looking at Macrea as Rocky's replacment. Just worried about the games he has to play and the likely taggers.
Huthchings, Steele, Jacobs, Curnow, all waiting for him
My plan was to go Cogs – Macrae for finals but Cogs looks like he's staying now.
Hoping JPk is just out for a week.
That is a concern Derek
Personally, I am doubtful that JAcobs will be back this year. 4 games now North have named him and replaced at last minute. Not looking good.
Sicily, Nic Nat, JPK and Gray.
Nasty Hedski
Yikes hedski that's some rotten luck mate, Gray could play this week, not sure about JPK but Sic and Nic have to go.
Yep you win rnd 17 hedski
That's about all I won this round RC.
same
I have sicily in my forward and no dpp. I already have Gray, Heeney, Hogan, Devon smith and Gunston.
Who should i bring in?
Any suggestions appreciated!
Looking at Westhoff or Greene. Greene will be cheap next week.
I like Westy with his extra ruck duties with Ryder down for weeks.
Trading Sicily, can either go to straight to Crisp or anyone priced lower, or trade Fyfe to Sloane and get Lloyd? 4 trades left
Lloyd or Heeney for Sicily? $123k difference..
I have DDP cover.
Maybe Hurley
Don't mind Fyfe to Sloane and getting Lloyd, and then hang on by your toenails with 2 left and hopefully you have a decent rookie bench.
If you could only choose one….
Heeney or Gray?
Heeney
heeney by 5 streets
Has Gray woken up yet?
He's meant to be travelling ok after his knockout mate, they're saying he could play but probably not with the caution they show these days.
Hurley, McDonald or Brayshaw for Sicily? Got Witherden at D7 but no point holding SIc.
Besides the top 4 defenders, you can throw a blanket over everyone
Hurley for me from those 3, Brayshaw's a bit risky with his concussion issues and T-Mac seems a bit low on form, Hurley seems to be coming good.
Thinking the same. Got Laird, Lloyd, Simpson, Yeo, Howe on field, think Hurley's the safest option available
Crisp
Crisp in a rich vein of form
Best Ruck in the league silver spoon feeding Brayshaw is very tempting.
Nic and Sic out……
My options are –
A) Grundy and Rance
B) Goldy and Hurley
C) Stef and Brayshaw/Hurley/Howe.
Goddammit this is my last 2 trades, Hurley and Howe worry me, a bit injury prone, Rance is a flog and Brayshaw a bit unknown.
I like Goldy's run home during finals.
Bloody injuries have killed me but that can't be helped.
Any ideas which combo?
I like Stef and Brayshaw
Last 2 bullets Hedski! That's going to be a long 5 weeks. With that in mind I'd steer clear of Brayshaw. That concussion risk is too great with your last trades. Probably option A. Both durable
Rance always ends up in my team by the end of the year. not sure how it happens
Just checked I'm $3k short of the Grundy/Rance trade. FCK me.
I like Stef and Brayshaw/Howe
Goldy and Rance
Same boat hedski, as of now im going Stef and Brayshaw, but Brayshaw could turn into Crisp or Hurley
I'd go Stef/Crisp preferably AB but short on cash.
I don't mind C Hed, Stef has a better av and 3 round av than Goldy and is cheaper, by C I mean Stef and Hurley, hes going ok the last few weeks too.
Cheers everyone, I'll suss it out in depth a bit later. I wonder if north go out of finals contention is there a chance Goldy gets rested during sc finals and Preuss gets a gig?
I like stef and Hurley
Appreciate its your opinion Hedski, but why is Rance a flog?
Is it Sicily/Greene flog-like or something else?
Just those couple of staging acts he pulls out each year Lazza, don't get me wrong, fantastic player and he ends up in my team most years, I'm just a bit salty I've gotta use my last trade mate!
Stef Martin or Todd Goldstein???
Martin.
Because I've had Goldy from the start and it took him ages to repay the faith and now I'll be grumpy if everyone else jumps on
Gawn and Grundy
Does Sicily going down mean Gunston moves down back? Could be a good replacement if you have sic in the forward line
Like the thinking
Gunston will go to defence for hawks. Get him
Tossing up between Chadley Wingard and Westhoff. How does the Hoff score when Ryder is not playing?
Very well I believe. That’s why I’m going Sicily to the Hoff.
Read that Westy will be sharing Ruck duties with Dixon so that should up his output from just being fwd.
I'd go Wingard, 4th ranked fwd on 5 round averages. Been dominating since moving to the mids
I just don't trust Hinkley to throw him back deep FWD, think Rockliff in that last qtr vs Freo, cost my opponent the game
The Hoff without Ryder
R2 111 v Swans
R3 82 v Lions
R4 88 v Bombers
R5 106 v Cats
R6 147 v Roos
Awesome. Cheers!
Had enough of this game see ya'll next year
Okay, c ya next year.
sicily and guelfi to the chad and the hoff
thoughts?
If Guelfi's getting a game I'd hang onto him!
my last upgrade though
Depends on how many trades I guess mate..if you've got 5 or more?
i got 7
Yes if you have good cover…players are dropping left right and centre and up and down and all around the cosmos
Howe or Crisp for Sicily?
crisp
Howe
Howe good value and can go huge but injury prone
Perhaps all the carnage has gotten to me. But I was thinking about how Supercoach could introduce some measures to give home ground advantage during the finals. One option could be for the away team not to be able to see the VC, C and predicted scores for the home team. Community, any other thoughts on potential options for this?
I like it
Every defender upgrade I've made all year has been (someone) v Lloyd. I have always taken (someone). Sicily out means I finally have to bite th ebullet. I don't care about the price or the breakeven. Welcome my team, finally, LLLLLlllllooooooyd.
Same here Steeeve, may as well do it!…what could possibly go wrong?….LOL
Exactly! Just because every other time I have traded in someone expensive rather than going for value it has backfired (including Fyfe to Josh Kelly only a fortnight ago) that doesn't mean the exact same thing will happen yet again.
Sicily to Brayshaw this week for me. 4 trades left. 33,800 left over. Was thinking maybe Hurley but Brayshaw's DPP will allow me to have some more flexibility if I need to by swinging him to midfield if required. (J. Smith is the link) Hopefully others in the top 100 (currently 99 here) are out of trades and I can capitalize:)
I'm feeling pretty good. In addition to my above comment.
Def: Lloyd, Simpson, Yeo, Laird, Brayshaw, Webster (Austin, Keefe)
Mid: Mitchell, Cripps, Dangerfield, Merrett, Oliver, Kelly, Coniglio, Rockliff (Ahern, Giro, J.Smith)
Ruck: Gawn, Martin (McInerney)
Fwd: Wingard, Heeney, Smith, McDonald, Hogan, McLean (Gray, T.Smith)
4 trades left after Sicily to McDonald and emergencies on all lines (hopefully) and plenty of DPP links.
Great team. Hoff will outscore McDonald from hereon in IMO
Oh my mistake then rusty, just assumed as he clicked on my comment to reply
Any thoughts on Sicily replacements? Have Heeney, Westhoff, Mclean, Billings and Smith
Option 1- Sicily to Franklin
Option 2- Sicily to Greene next week
Greene has a bigger payoff, but much higher risk I think
Gunston will take over Sicily’s role in the Hawks defence.
Proven to increase his scoring when he plays in defence
Sicily has to go, but what about JPK & Gray? Any news yet?
Or do I just make the Sicily trade for now given 4 trades only?
Hold JPK and Gray mate, punt the Sic.
Thanks hedski. May need to rely on tools to get me through the round, though I imagine plenty will be in the same boat.
Apologies, *rooks, not tools!
Yeah Rivo, I'll loop Phillips and Ahern/Gyro for JPK and play Guelfi for Gray if he doesn't get up.
Bloody tools..ha.
Hold if you can cover them. Both will be a week at worst..
Hey Rivo, Gray obviously has to pass concussion tests but apparently pulled up pretty well, read in 'in the mix' that JPK will probably miss this week. Gray's got until Sunday so he could possibly get up.
Thanks Rusty. Might go with Sicily to Brayshaw and open another swing set. One trade might be enough for the week then.
Sicily is in my backline so I can't trade him to a forward. I Still don't have Lloyd and at 595k I'm 31k short of getting him and with Laird, Simpson and Yeo already in my side I will be going for Crisp instead. T-mac has a tough draw coming up and I already have enough inconsistency with Buddy, Howe, Walters and J Selwood in my side, so I won't pick him. Brayshaw is one to consider but I don't like the fact that all his scores have been against poorer opposition and a couple of his worst scores in recent times have been against the pies and port. His draw for the rest of the year is very tough and with the amount of uncontested disposals he's been racking up, that might take a turn. I also don't like Hurn's inconsistency and scoring history. Crisp is a bit of a pod at 4.9% ownership and has averaged 107 in his past 9 games and he will be the one I turn to (also hasn't scored under 90 in that time). Although the pies have a tough draw coming up his role in the backline makes me think that won't affect his scoring. Final backline will be Laird, Simpson, Yeo, Crisp, Hurley, Howe. Hopefully my last 3 trades can see me through.
I like the Crisp selection, and that backline looks strong.
Best of luck on the trades front
Cheers mate, it would be a lot nicer with Lloyd in for Howe but you can't always have the perfect team 🙂
Crisp or Brayshaw??
Crisp easily.
Brayshaw has been getting so much outside ball in games where Melbourne dominated the clearances against bad teams. The one time they were beaten badly in that area he scored terribly (against Collingwood). Their run coming up is very very tough. Could just be a coincidence but that fact combined with his concussion history and the low amount of trades I have left makes me prefer Crisp. I do hope for Angus's sake that he avoids concussion for the rest of his career.
Brayshaw easily..😛
Hurn
Sicily out of my team but who do I trade in? I want a defender and can afford anyone
This is how my backline is set up:
Simpson, Yeo, Laird, Hurley, Savage, Sicily (R Smith, B Lynch)
I'm considering getting either Lloyd, Crisp, Hurn or Howe. Any thoughts?
It has to be Lloyd
Lloyd without a doubt
Lloyd or Heeney for Sicily? $123k difference.. May go Heeney which will allow Bont to Macrae next week followed by Nank to Grundy.. (been trying to the Nank trade since the byes – every effin week there’s an injury trade that gets in the way).
Meant to add .. TMac goes back for Sicily.
If you have the trades to make those moves definitely go Heeney. Macrae will probably outscore Bont by more than 20 a game and Grundy will easily outscore Nank by more than 20 per game. Lloyd has been in fine form but his massive scoring run was in an 8 week hot patch and he hasn't been scoring as high for as long as Macrae (since R16 last year) and Grundy (all year) and he might potentially score the same as Heeney. That said he will probably outscore Heeney by about 10-15 per game from now onwards.
So I've got one more upgrade to go…
160k in the bank with Ahern in the midfield.
Leave him for another week to cash up or trade to the likes of Shuey, Mundy…?
Wow had planned to get Macrae BUT
Gray, Bont, NicNat and Sicily with 3 trades left and fwd bench (FWD ONLY) of T.Smith + Battle so the season is officially over!
Cant even swing Ahern or Spargo (MID bench) to FWD line without trading T.Smith or Battle.
Battle a chance to play this week Gaz, trade nic and Sicily, be happy you have a trade left after that!
Jon cellar as pAtcholorette no.5, solo ruckman at the hawks
Jono ceglar is who I meant
i Won’t be surprised if Pittonet gets a game this week. O’Brien just not working as a second ruckman and will be omitted.
Sicily out will mean Gunston will play in defence and they will need Ceglar in forward line. Unless shoenmaker comes in.
Question lads.
I can either play Ahern in the forwards for Sicily and get in Macrae.
OR
Do I look at Gunston/Westhoff/Greene and keep Ahern on the bench?
Or even Hurley?
I like Gunston’s chances of scoring well with Sicily out. He will take the intercepting roll and has shown he can score big.
McCrae has some fixtures coming up where he will get a close tag. Hutchings, Steele, Jacobs and Curnow all waiting for him
Gunston or westhoff now Ryder out?
He already has a 142 v West Coast, a 120 v GWS and a 141 v Carlton
He has a low score of 98.
Can't see Gunston outscoring Macrae for the rest of the year.
So, I have Nic Nat and Sicily. 5 trades left. I also have JPK and Gray.
If I get Grundy the only decent defender I can afford is Houli. Good move or should I go Goldy/Ryan?
I would avoid Houli if you can.
I am a recent Grundy owner, but looking at Goldy’s run home, I think he might score just as well as Grundy.
I had a similar dilemma, gone with Goldy.
Yeah forget about Grundy, get 2 good players if you can.
Houli not named
What happened this weekend?
Just logged on as popped out of the wilderness of alaska and snagged some wifi.
JPK, Gray and Nic nat!!
Now i read sicily is also done himself a mischief.
😱
Geez looks like it is time to use the old emergency trade button. Good thing i had a couple in reserve.
Sheesh.
Harsh game.
Nasty end to the home and away for many Trigga.
Hibberd out too.
Donuts will be on someones menu this week.
Got the 4 of them Trigger…Happy days!
Hey Trigs, yeah carnage galore this week, did you bag me that Bearskin rug with your Elephant gun?…lol
That time of year again.
Wait until we see the players going for early opperations in the next few weeks as well.
Out of Bellchambers and the Nank who do we think will finish the strongest? Both have very favourable fixtures in terms of ruckmen.
