All right community, did you catch the pod yesterday? Make sure you let everyone know she’s up and the site is pumping again, word of mouth is the best way to keep building this community up!

What’s going on in this AFL X thing, not sure if there’s any relevance here or if it’s a gold mine. Either way, I’d rather watch the old blokes playing AFL 9’s in Ringwood I reckon, at least they care enough to create some argy-bargy or call the umpire a washed up dickhead.

I’ve attached my side but you can probably tell there’s a few holes to fill, let’s whack our teams in the comments and have a good old chin wag.

Hurley, Laird, Hibberd, Richards, Doedee, Morgan, Murray, Mirra
Dangerfield, Mitchell, Oliver, Crouch, Fyfe, Cripps, LDU, Brodie, Worpel, Kelly, Bailey
Gawn, Goldstein, Olango
Heeney, Billings, Curnow, Dawson, Rioli, Switkowski, Ahern, Ryan

Billings to Greene if he doesn't get up from his injury.

32k left and 30 trades 😉

Haven’t seen Goldsteins around name much

      BrownlowBoy · 15/02/2018 at 21:05

He's as good as any of the other options in my opinion.

        Lekdog · 15/02/2018 at 21:31

Creeping into a few more sides, I like him as an option

          BrownlowBoy · 15/02/2018 at 22:27

With Daw supposedly playing down back – I assume Preuss must play in VFL as I cannot see Daw, Goldy and Preuss playing together. Goldy apparently looking very good this pre season from reports.

            Jedders · 15/02/2018 at 22:37

If Daw plays down back I’m happt to bet the overs in the match points jesus! Will
Get lost like a toddler in a shopping centre at Xmas

      Patch · 15/02/2018 at 22:37

Pruess scaring a lot off – myself included. Can't see him being top three if Pruess plays 16+ games for mine. Can do worse, but not for mine.

        fatboyfat7 · 16/02/2018 at 11:27

Curious on your rucks this year Patch, seems like your not keen on any of them! Worries about Martin with Archie S playing, you don't like Jacobs, Pruess scaring you off Goldy, Kruezer a bit too expensive, Grundy a concern with Buckley looking at Cox…
With Ryder's early bye, he's not ideal either imo unless your prepared to take the hit…?

    TRIGGA_HAPPY · 15/02/2018 at 22:54

BB im sure you've heard this from me before.
But light on in def and fwd so pretty reliant on rookies to score well which i am wary of based on what happened last year.

On the flip side super strong midfield with kelly on the bench.
Dawson could be an astute pick.

      BrownlowBoy · 16/02/2018 at 09:06

Yeah cheers TH. I don't really like selecting mid pricers, but if rookies aren't looking promising, something will have to give.

Back – Howe, Witherden,Brayshaw, Naughton, O'Shea, Dodee (Murray, Richards)

Mid- Danger, Kelly, Crouch, Fyfe, Bont, Cripps, Brayshaw, LDU (Brodie, Ahren, Freeman)

Ruc – Gawn, Nicnat (Cameron)

Fwd – Heeney, Petracca, curnow, Lobb, Higgins, Ryan (Rioli, Kirkby)

$95,900 left

    The Flying Dutchman · 15/02/2018 at 21:33

May be the first time I have seen The Bont included in a team – as I posted in the podcast thread I have this feeling he will bounce back this year and leap into the top 10. He may be a surprising pod for you Gordo.

    Patch · 15/02/2018 at 22:38

BT would say there are too many Brashaw's in that side but I like it. Haven't looking into the Bont but PODdish. Petracca another risky one who could go KABOOM this year.

Witherden over Rich as D2 is a very, very, very, very, very wise decision.

    Stirlsy · 16/02/2018 at 00:29

Yeah im with Patch, Witherden i like the pick but cant fit in the team ATM.

      gordo29 · 16/02/2018 at 05:00

Thanks for all the feedback. No doubt it will change before round one

Only team ive seen without cripps
Everyone is backing him in would have to be close to most selected along with Gawn

    Zorko pod.

Light on in the bookends so reliant on rookie scores.

      Krups · 16/02/2018 at 06:19

      Guns and rookies team mate

        gator59 · 16/02/2018 at 16:53

What are you calling JOM a gun or rookie!!

          krups · 16/02/2018 at 17:08

          Hahaha……got me there. A guookie?

      Shake n bake · 16/02/2018 at 17:52

Im so undecided on beams or cripps Trigg!!! Only going with one atm, slightly favouring Beams.

        TRIGGA_HAPPY · 17/02/2018 at 09:12

If i started beams, rocky or b crouch it would b if i didnt start danger so to use as a stepper when/if he fell in price. Looking for them to go gang busters early before upgrade or injury.

Cripps i see as a keeper like your crouch oliver from last year.

          Shake n Bake · 17/02/2018 at 11:52

Im not starting Danger. Beams if i keep him in my side would be as a keeper. Thats where JOM comes into play Trigg! Ive got a little coin left over aswell just hoping JOM flies the gate early and with the extra coin could make up the short fall.

            TRIGGA_HAPPY · 17/02/2018 at 17:36

            Going against history there shakers.
Been awhile since beams got through a full season.- 2012.

Team changing more than my undies Lek…

D: Hurley, Yeo, Laird, Bonner, O’Shea, Doedee (Morgan, Murray);
M: Danger, Dusty, Fyfe, Cripps, Coniglio, Armitage, Davies-Uniakie, Brodie (Kelly, Spargo, Barry);
R: Gawn, Nic-Nat (Hayes);
F: Heeney, Dahlhaus, Petraca, Stringer, Rayner, J.Dawson (Higgins, Ryan).

    Imgonnalose · 15/02/2018 at 20:29

Love the Armitage pick, been thinking about slotting him in to my team but I have vivid nightmares that bogged my pants when I had him for the entire 2016 season 😩

      StevoRivo · 15/02/2018 at 20:43

      Thanks Imgonna…
Armitage is a risk just like JOM. Likely to be a stepping stone, hope he gets to the byes and makes some cash. Would love to keep him all season with a 100 average though!

    TRIGGA_HAPPY · 15/02/2018 at 22:58

Stringer the ultimate risk reward pick.
Change might be all he needs.
I like bonner as a pick but at that awkward price.

Dan · 15/02/2018 at 20:26

Backs – Laird, Simpson, Rich, Murray, Keefe, Morgan (O'shea, Doedee)

Mid- Mitchell, J.Kelly, Merret, Fyfe, Cripps, O'Meara, LDU, T.Kelly (Higgins, Barry, Holman)

Rucks- Gawn,NicNat (Olango)

Forwards- Heeney, Greene, Dalhouse, Curnow, Gartlett, Ryan (Ahern, Rioli)

Still managed to have 252k to spend, so open to any suggestions.

    BrownlowBoy · 15/02/2018 at 22:14

JOM to Danger if you can afford it.

Imgonnalose · 15/02/2018 at 20:28

Hurley, Roberton, Witherden, rookies x5
Danger, Kelly, Crouch, Fyfe, Cripps, Ldu (rookies)
Gawn, Nicnat
Heeney, Gray, Walters, Deledio (rookies)

What do we reckon?

    Dan · 15/02/2018 at 20:31

    Deledio is a brave pick

      StevoRivo · 15/02/2018 at 20:49

Don’t mind it Dan. Risk yes but his ceiling is high. Might get a role at half back this season.

        TRIGGA_HAPPY · 15/02/2018 at 23:01

Some bozo wrote a piece on lids on the fantasysc site. Its all there

    gordo29 · 15/02/2018 at 20:33

Like the lids pick with Richmond winning the flag and all but would keep an eye on what his role is in the jlt, I’m hoping he will play of halfback

      Lekdog · 15/02/2018 at 21:32

      If so, I'm arroused

Liam · 15/02/2018 at 21:05

DEF: Laird, Hibberd, Simpson, Sicily, Bonner, Doedee. (Murray, Morgan)
MID: Danger, Dusty, Fyfe, Pendles, Cripps, Dow, LDU, Kelly (Fogarty, Barry, Holman)
RUC: Gawn, Lycett (olango)
FWD: Menegola, Heeney, Smith, Curnow, Setterfield, Ahern (Rioli, Venables)

Let me know your thoughts.

    Danny · 15/02/2018 at 21:31

Lycett too risky for mine. As soon as Nic Nat is anywhere near 100% he's in. Menegola also facing stiff competition from Gaz/Danger/Selwoods for mid time. Heavy scorer when on tho.

      Liam · 15/02/2018 at 21:39

Lycett turns into Ryder at r11. Feel Lycett can average 80-90 for the first 10 rounds.

        paul · 16/02/2018 at 10:15

Lycett will make money if named round one.Nic Nat /Lycett combo has worked well in the past. However if Nic nat is not named round one or two this is a great chance to watch him when he does come in as long as Lycett is making money. Then with a couple of games under his belt trade Lycett for Nic nat before his price goes up.It may pan out that way just an option that may work.Even if they both start round one i will run with Lycett first to see how Nic Nat goes as he has had a lot of time away from footy.Lycett has too but he will make you money to get Nic nat in.

100% agree with you with the Lycett pick Liam. Lycett to Ryder is a great move!

    Zoomer · 16/02/2018 at 17:42

Liam. I like Lycett-he's in my team at the moment but it's a long way to round 1.It's a bit risky but I'm really happy with the rest of my team with him in. Lycett to Ryder after the port bye is my thoughts too.

Any and all feedback is not only appreciated but advised. I think you should gain more out of it than me(not really). I’m lacking forward point gen so tell me a forward and I will probably shut it down (I’m not even sure if I’m joking now)

Burton, Morrison, Bonner, Graham, Ahern…gonna need you to sell me on all these guys

      Russty_ · 15/02/2018 at 23:28

Burton's gonna be a gun I reckon this year, he could step up a few notches, Bonner could be good too, he just needs a chance, Graham is already good, just needs to stay in the side.

      fatboyfat7 · 16/02/2018 at 11:29

Morrison would be a good pick up if he was just a little cheaper, too awkwardly priced…

        gator59 · 16/02/2018 at 17:05

Morrision wont play going by my sources

      Tyruddanaut · 16/02/2018 at 16:41

Ahern is a rookie and I have no idea atm
Graham scored high during finals and is only priced at half his potential
Bonner looked great during AFLX with only about 1 or 2 bad kicks.
Morrison, idk really just a hunch
Burton was getting 80%+ Disposal efficiency at the end of the season with most coming from kicks. Now that he develops he will get 5 more touches a game or so, so around 10 points

Witts is interesting, left field, I like it. Solid everywhere else, but I would try and squeeze in one more guaranteed uber premium in the mids (Mitchell / Oliver / Zerrett type).

Playing a loophole mid/fwd as M10. Without a ruck/fwd DPP, we must have cover at R3. Derek feels Pittonet will play. Good enough for me.

I know LDU is expensive to have on the bench, but outside of Kelly (thanks Trigga) I am not feeling the bench rookies can generate cash.

Mid-price madness on the forward line, but I think the only true premo that I want is Heeney, and I hear is pre-season has been interrupted by an ankle issue, so will plan to upgrade to him later.

I suppose you have to at the price if he gets a game but that is a big if.

      The Ranger · 16/02/2018 at 10:30

He'd have to be in the mix for a half back slot wouldn't he Tibor?
Worth keeping an eye on him.

This weeks team…
DEF: Roberton, Lloyd, Witherden + rookies
MID: Danger, Ablett, Titch, Sloane, Fyfe, JOM + rookies
RUK: Ryder, Gawn + English
FWD: Menegola, Heeney, Petracca + rookies

    Tibor · 16/02/2018 at 08:51

Can you explain the Menegola pick to me. I'm not having a crack at you here I just don't know much about him and his high price puts me off unless I'm convinced he's the real deal. Is he really that good obviously numbers from last year justify the price but he seems to have slipped under a lot of people's radar. What chance he continues to deliver in a deep midfield at Geelong where higher profile blokes will be spending time forward and rotating through the middle??

      The Ranger · 16/02/2018 at 10:34

He's been in and out of my side mate but there's a bit of me that thinks that perhaps him or Duncan might thrive this year with all the attention being on the three big Cats.
Of course it could also go the other way and his scoring could go down as a result of Ablett being there….I'll be watching the JLT to see how he goes.

        The Ranger · 16/02/2018 at 10:55

Check out his numbers from last year too Tibor. He's pretty consistent.

          Derek · 16/02/2018 at 17:44

he ticks alot of boxes, genuine midfielder with forward status, plays in a good team.

          it is the Ablett factor………

            Tibor · 16/02/2018 at 19:57

I've seen a little bit and certainly would not have called him a spud but I was a bit surprised by the numbers and the price does he fade into the background given how high profile some of the cats are if you blokes are Geelong savvy what do you think about harry if he gets to play settled in the back line DPP on a mid price bloke with a proven history appeals

Danger not featuring in many teams at all…

      liamphillips35 · 16/02/2018 at 12:19

I like Longer as this years' Witts.
Took sole control of the number 1 ruck spot by the end of the year, finished with three 108+ scores in his last four games, and was 4th in tackles per game out of ruckman who played 10+ games
Also, 24 years old and a former top 10 draft pick.
He may burn me, but he fits the profile and I've got cash sitting there to upgrade to natanui or nank if it bombs

Ah mate that's really your call, I'm not really big on rocky this year, only because its a new club and we don't know what his role is just yet. Saying that, he could end up killing it! I'd be looking at taking out him or Adams but its personal preference…

McLean is a big risk too imo but its your team after all.

RUC: Gawn, Sandy (Amartley)

Thoughts, obviously rookies subject to change. Structure is what I'm concerned with atm. I count between 12-14 that are potential keepers pending on the year. I see upside in Boner, Sicily & Armitage all likely stepping stones. Lots of injury risks but I have based on pre-seasons. Which I believe most of these blokes have done.

    fatboyfat7 · 16/02/2018 at 11:49

Not massively gone on Hurley, no doubt if he's fit he'll be up there as a top defender but a big outlay for someone who's had some wrist issues lately. I'd monitor his preseason closely, you don't want him missing games early.

Sandy is another risk, I would expect him to be rested an awful lot and Sean Darcy to become a bit more involved in the main ruck duties, a changing of the guard season so to speak.

As for the structure, I don't mind it but you absolutely need a DDP in the midfield to give you cover…

rosy · 16/02/2018 at 11:10

One of the big questions of 2018: To JOM or not to JOM?

His 2017 was a stinking pile of crap but he's only 316k and SURELY he can't get any worse. SURELY, if he plays at least 12 games he'll have to even out at 450ish.

Thoughts?

    fatboyfat7 · 16/02/2018 at 11:58

Is 134k enough cash to make to warrant selection? I dunno, i'd want a minimum of 150k from anyone not a keeper and then you have to factor in his injury risk…
I'll keep an eye on him over preseason but as of now, its a no for mine. I see why he's a consideration though…

Honestly I'm tinkering every 2nd day, but I will say as of right now I'm quite happy, except for one thing… I'm questioning myself about is my left over funds.

I have $247k left in the bank and I feel like I have 15 keepers (if all goes well). My riskiest selection admittedly is Mitch Robinson but he's going nowhere, he's my POD of sorts this year and I can't see him loosing value.

I feel anymore keepers in my line up will damage future cash generation but am concerned that it's just too much to have sitting in the bank. I've selected Fyfe, Beams and Cripps because of their value, I know I could upgrade to Kelly/Crouch but the value is too good…

Def: Laird, Howe, Simpson, Shaw, Doedee, Morgan, Murray, Mirra
Mid: Martin, Mitchell, Fyfe, Beams, Cripps, LDU, Kelly, Barry, Aherne, Worpel, Holman
Rucks: Gawn, Goldy, Lavender

Rookies obviously subject to some change…

    15 keepers ur dreaming

    liamphillips35 · 16/02/2018 at 13:11

There's no point in selecting value for your keepers, you don't need them to generate cash, just spend a few extra $ to make them a sure thing.
Shaw into Hurley, Beams into Kelly, Cripps into Bont

      Fatboyfat7 · 16/02/2018 at 13:22

Waiting on Hurley to see how his wrist is, I'll watch shaw over the preseason but with wilson traded and Williams injured he maybe relevant again. Maybe…

Point taken on the cash generation. 2017 showed Beams and Cripps could both make top 10 IF they can avoid injury. Maybe starting both isn't ideal, may look at that… thanks for the feedback.

    GloryDays90 · 16/02/2018 at 14:24

Should look to have 50 to 100k in bank
    Don't like Boak
Not much point in having Danger and Ablett this early until they have proven to play well together, downgrade him to Fyfe.

      gordo29 · 16/02/2018 at 17:54

I like the Ablett pick. Good pod and he isn’t going to get as much attention as what he did at the suns with danger

    Derek · 16/02/2018 at 17:39

i'd like to know why you left Heeney out?

    Tibor · 16/02/2018 at 20:58

you know what you're getting with Boak and it's ok but hardly special maybe take Petracca for 30 k or so less and a very strong break out chance

Feedback on things I can change

B- Laird, Simpson, McGovern, O'Shea, Doedee, Goddard (Murray, Johnson)
M- Dangerfield, Martin, Mitchell, Crouch, Neale, Fyfe, LDU, Freeman (Garlett, Kelly, Holman)
R- Gawn, Naitanui (Jeffries)
F- Heeny, Greene, Smith, Rayner, Higgins, Starcevich (Ahern, Ryan)

korza · 16/02/2018 at 15:08

I'm thinking taking both of the following combos, will be unique, though taking only the 1 may not.
Rich/Witherden
Kelly/Coniglio
Fyfe/Neale or Blakely
Greene/Lobb
Franklin/Heeney
Anyone think of any others

Dave G · 16/02/2018 at 15:16

Def: Hurley, Laird, LLoyd, Mcgrath, Murray, Morgan, Hibberd, Doedee
Mid: Mitchell, J. Kelly, M. Crouch, Merrett, Fyfe, Ah Chee, Davies-Uniacke, Ahern, W Brodie, Fogarty, T.Kelly
Rucks: Gawn, Nankervis, M.Lynch
Forwards: Heeney, Greene (still undecided with the risks this brings!), Stringer, Keefe, Garlett, Ryan, English, Higgins

Thoughts community?

    Dave G · 16/02/2018 at 15:18

$236k for upgrades/corrections once season starts

    Tibor · 16/02/2018 at 21:04

Toby Greene AND Jake Stringer …..you certainly are well served for Flog Factor

Kule · 16/02/2018 at 15:29

Gone for a bit of a POD side this year with the likes of Neale over Fyfe and surprisingly even the Bont. Surprised hes not in more sides than he is. Also between a rock and a hard place choosing between dahl and petracca. Dahl should bounce back after a below average year but petrecca could go whooshka. Think the same potentially with burton

Hurley Laird Burton O’Shea Doedee Murray – Keefe Mirra

Danger Mitchell Zerrett Neale Bont Cripps Dow LDU – ahern kelly brown

Grundy Gawn – Hayes

Heeney Greene Dahl/Petracca Higgins W. Riolo Garlett – Spargo Ryan

CheekyNandos7 · 16/02/2018 at 18:27

Hey lads, here's the team, rip it apart.

DEF: Laird, Hibberd, Hanley, O'Shea, Doedee, Mirra (Murray, Keeffe)

MID: Danger, Titch, Zerrett, Fyfe, Cripps, Coniglio, LDU, Kelly (Coffield, Worpel, Holman)

RUC: Gawn, NicNat (Lavender)

FWD: Heeney, Billings, Dahl, Lobb, Higgins, Ryan (Garlett, Spargo)

Got 50k left but if Lobb and Billings dont get up im thinking of going Lobb ->Petracca, Billings -> Greene and Hanley -> Maynard which would leave me with 29k but would be able to get more dollars by downgrading Coffield.

TIA for your help

Derek · 16/02/2018 at 18:28

who is the top 8 midfielders? by total points.

Danger, Dusty, TMitch, Kelly, Fyfe – i think are almost certainties.

there are at least 10 fellas capable to filling the other 3 places. but MCrouch, Neale & Merrett, are my three selections. Oliver & Pendles on the bench.

    CheekyNandos7 · 16/02/2018 at 18:36

Bont on the rebound could be a cheeky POD

      Derek · 17/02/2018 at 00:19

I can’t see him doing it every week

    Shake n Bake · 16/02/2018 at 20:19

    Ablett maybe??!!

      Derek · 17/02/2018 at 00:18

Ablett will be too 4 for average, but not thinking he will play all games

        Shake n Bake · 17/02/2018 at 11:45

It will a wait n see thing you could be right but then again he is back at the catery!

            TommyC99 · 17/02/2018 at 17:33

Scored all his points before he was being tagged

              Derek · 17/02/2018 at 19:06

He is close. It’s just that tag

    liamphillips35 · 16/02/2018 at 23:39

Zorko – almost a lock for 110/week and doesn't miss games

      Highly considering.

JohnDJ59 · 16/02/2018 at 18:30

Keep changing things around, but keep coming back to this line up. Def; Hibberd, Witherden, Burton, Coffield, Naughton, Doedee, [Cumming, Mirra ] Mid; Danger Titch, Oliver, Crouch, Fyfe, Adams, Brodie, O'Brien, [Bailey, Kelly, Barry] Rucks; Ryder, Gawn, [Cameron] Fwds; Smith, Pertracca, Curnow, Stephenson, Ahern, Fritson, [Higgins, Ryan] Still tossing up between Titch and Dusty for M2.

    Derek · 17/02/2018 at 00:16

What will you do round 10 to covers Ryder

I would have dusty and TMitch ahead of Oliver

      JohnDJ59 · 17/02/2018 at 14:51

I'm happy to take that hit at the moment,if another Ruck comes along that I think might be better before the start I'll consider changing him.I did look at having both Dusty and Titch, but not sure I can afford both with Danger as well, plus I like the look of my second line with Oliver,Crouch,Fyfe, those three along with Ryder&Gawn are the only ones that have remained constant in my team from the start.

Defying_Madness · 16/02/2018 at 19:41

DEF: Laird, Hibberd, Houli, Burton, Doedee, Murray (Keeffe, Mirra)

MID: Titch, Oliver, Crouch, Fyfe, Cripps, O'Meara, Rayner, Kelly (Garlett, Worpel, Holman)

RUC: Gawn, NicNat (Pittonet)

FWD: Heeney, Billings, Curnow, Sicily, Ahern, Ryan (Higgins, Venables)

Got 17k left in the bank. Considering Billings to Tracca and NicNat to Ryder depending on JLT matches and the fitness of NicNat and Billings. Not really sure on the rookies so I am waiting on the JLT to assess. Starting without Danger is a bit risky but I am hoping he drops in price so I can pick him up later. Also considering swapping Oliver or Crouch to Kelly.

Thanks for the feedback community.

    Tibor · 16/02/2018 at 20:11

As a Demon last year I was very up about Oliver from the start. Copped a fair bit of stick for it before the season started too. Not taking him this year because the ship has sailed. As A demon I hope he backs up but who knows…. If I was 8 of 10 sure about Oliver last year I'm 12 out of ten certain on Petracca. This bloke is an absolute gun…

KMax · 16/02/2018 at 19:42

Playing around with a few teams at the moment.
Just some thoughts on this setup.

Def: Hurley, Laird, Hibberd, O’Shea, Murray, Doedee (Morgan, Cummings)
Mid: Danger, Mitchell, Fyfe, Bont, Cripps, Coniglio, LDU, Brodie (Barry, Kelly, Holman)
Ruck: Jacobs, Gawn. (Olango)
Fwd: Heeney, Greene, Dahlhaus, Setterfield, Higgins, Garlett, (Ahern, Ryan)

Rookies will change as we get closer to the R1.
3 expensive rookies in at the moment, in case cheaper ones pop up.
Greene sitting there, could become Curnow if money is required elsewhere.
Team works well with byes too.
Feedback welcomed.

    Western L's · 19/02/2018 at 11:58

    Like it a lot
Just because its very similar to my team 🙂
I want hurley but I'm waiting till JLT to see if his wrist injury is past him, also so surprised to see hibberd in so many teams for some reason I just don't think he will do well and that he is injury prone. I checked his stats however and he only missed 4 games and averaged 99 I'm 40k off him so instead I have laird, rich Lloyd as my defense premiums
ive got Zerrett instead of Bont and Parker instead of Coniglio in the midfield
same rucks and in the FWD ive got the same premiums except Menegola instead of Greene
Most likely his going to become either Curnow or Petracca, I will use the spare cash to do Rich to Hurley.
Ive got O'Shea, Coffield, LDU and Rayner as my expensive rookies

      KMax · 19/02/2018 at 21:05

Funny enough players you have different to me, I’m keeping an eye during the JLT games.
Looks like we are in the right path. We’ll be fighting it out for 1st and 2nd placing. Lol.

Damo · 16/02/2018 at 20:42

Hey community,

Rookies are obviously subject to change massively, but any thoughts are appreciated 🙂
Not overly sold on the ruck combo, but if I do decide to start with Danger I'm likely to go with something like this.

B: Laird, Hibbered, Witherden, Byrne, Murray, Keefe (Doedee, Goddard)
M: Danger, Martin, Mitchell, Pendles, Cripps, Coniglio, Brayshaw, Dow (Garlett, Kelly, Worpel)
R: Grundy, Gawn (Cameron)
F: Heeney, Walters, McLean, Stephenson, Ahern, Venables (Rioli, Murphy)

4k left

Crimewave · 16/02/2018 at 20:51

Looking for any and all advice.

Defence: Hurley, Laird, Ellis, O'Shea, Doedee, Murray (Cumming, Morgan)
Midfield: Dangerfield, Mitchell, Martin, Fyfe, Cripps, Bontempelli, Holman, Davies-Uniacke (Dawson, Kelly, Barry)
Rucks: Gawn, Naitanui (Hayes)
Forward: Heeney, Billings, Barlow, Higgins, Ahern, Garlett (Ryan, Venabels)

    liamphillips35 · 16/02/2018 at 23:40

Looks good but have a backup plan for if natanui isn't ready to go

    Derek · 17/02/2018 at 00:09

Don’t think Hurley will do what he did last year.

Goddard will be playing mostly in defence this year and along with McGrath they will be getting a lot of the ball. I can see Hurley closer to goal, he might even struggle to finish top 6 defender

    Derek · 17/02/2018 at 00:11

You will need to do something about F4, F5 & F6, I cant see any of them playing round 1

Whitey · 16/02/2018 at 21:12

Not going to post whole team but would like people's opinions. At the moment I have

Def: Laird, Simpson, Hibberd. + rookies

Fwd: Heeney, Greene, D Smith, + rookies

My question to the community is I have the choice of running Cripps at M6 with very little cash left or running JOM at M6 and improving either D4 or F4.

Are my def and fwd's strong enough or do I need to find the money to improve them.

Thanks in advance guys.

    dontblushbaby · 16/02/2018 at 21:57

If JOM is named for R 1, lock him in as I will we be , if all going well he should average 85 – 95's imo

      gordo29 · 17/02/2018 at 01:26

Would go JOM pending on his JLT, if you don’t like what you see stay as is with Cripps. Like the Smith pick

Big G · 17/02/2018 at 13:22

My first Go(Rookies subject to change).

Hurley, Laird, Simpson, O'Shea, Doedoe, S Murray, L Keefe, H Goddard
Danger, Dusty, Z Merrett, Zorko, Fyfe, Cripps, LDU, Barry, Ahern, Garlett, Kelly
Sauce Jacobs, Gawn, Olongo
Heeney, Toby Greene, Dahl, Jack Higgins, Ryan, Spargo, Rookies x 2

Positions I am most debating (D3, M3 and M4, R1, F2 and F3).

Anyone think I have missed a must have? Thoughts.

    JohnDJ59 · 18/02/2018 at 00:39

Hi Big G,the ones that you have identified as up for debating are spot on.I would be having Hibberd at D3,either Titch,Oliver,Crouch for M3,I don't mind Zorko at M4,if the rookies turn up I would only be going with five premo mids,Bailey from Bris might be worth a look.I would be looking at someone to replace Higgins at F4,not sure he will be playing come round one.

      Big G · 18/02/2018 at 01:20

Thanks John. I actually just put in Hibberd for Hurley. My thoughts on Old Man Simpson is he may be getting long in the tooth, but he is always guaranteed to get plenty of ball and always reliably averages over 90. My thoughts on Z Merrett is I think he can average 105 easy and Titch early on last year scored a lot of low 100s due to over hand balling, so I thought to pick him up later but I will re-think it. I like having 6 premos in the midfield because that is where the big scores come from. I am actually having a bit of cold feet about Cripps. I am re-thinking Greene for someone that plays more in the guts and Higgins can always be replaced with another rookie. Thanks again. Do you have any interesting PODs?

        JohnDJ59 · 18/02/2018 at 02:39

Not sure if they are interesting Big G,but I have Witherden 5%,Burton 4% in defence, Oliver 7%,Crouch 10% in the mids, Curnow 5% in the fwds.I know three of them are midprices, but I think they can get the job done, hoping they can end up being my D5,D6,F6 once I am full premo as they call it.I got to full premo in the mids and Ruck last year, but in defence and forwards I was one off in each, but both were scoring alright so it didn't matter.Funny you should say that about Cripps, that's why I said maybe go with just the five mids,I also had six mids up until today,I did like Adams 2% at M6,since I had him in defence last year, but found the other lines look better now after dropping him.

          Big G · 18/02/2018 at 13:47

I think Witherden, Burton and Curnow all have good chances of having break-out year's but I am not sure if I would go with all 3 players with potential. One of the best advice with SC I was given and I am sure the great man Jock would agree is that if a player has averaged over 100 for over 5 years, chances are they will do it again. There is a reason players like Simpson, Sloane, JPK and Pendels average high year in and year out… That is why I try to stick with proven players. I am beginning to think Titch is a must-have this year from the start.

            Big G · 18/02/2018 at 14:00

Also one thing I have learnt from SC is because a good score for a defender is 80-90, as compared to 110-120 for midfielders it is less risky to go with 3 on-field rookies down back from the start.

Gav · 17/02/2018 at 13:28

Does anyone think Andrew Mcgrath could go close to a 90 average this year.

    Whitey · 17/02/2018 at 13:38

I am really considering him at D4, if he has moved more into the midfield I don't think 85-90 is out of the question at all. Others will get the focus such as Merrett in the mids and Saad sown back. Just hope he doesn't get the second year blues. Watch the JLT to see where he plays most of his footy, he is class. Slight warning though, I am a one eyed bombers supporter.

      Gav · 17/02/2018 at 13:47

Just been reading about him. Full preseason, training solely for midfield. Thinking he might be a good D4 also. If he can average within 5 to 10 of Simpson I might be better off using the money saved to juice up my forward line

Westy · 17/02/2018 at 13:42

If this looks bizarre, I'm reverse engineering my team at the moment – starting with rookies and working up from there (just for the fun of it). Have taken no notice of byes or injuries.
B – O'Shea, Murray, Doedee, J Smith, Keeffe H Goddard, Rice, Mirra
M – Martin, Mitchell, Zorko, Fyfe, Cripps, Trengove, T Kelly, Barry, Fogarty, Freeman, Holman
R – Z Smith, Natanui, English
F – Heeney, Barlow, Deledio, J Higgins, Ahern, Ryan, Garlett, Naish.

$2.081M left. I'll plug in some more premo grunt closer to the start, when we find out if the rookies are close to playing.

    Big G · 18/02/2018 at 13:55

    Trengrove. Are you serious?

      Westy · 24/02/2018 at 22:14

Having fun Big G. I’ve had little chance to check out early season form and he’s played before so I thought POD. I’m guessing from your comment -MAJOR POD! 🙂

Dogs · 17/02/2018 at 14:59

Pretty much cookie cutter team, picked before jock got up and running again but haven’t changed anything yet

Def- laird, Hibberd, Lloyd , rookies x 5

Mid- danger, dusty, titch, Merrett, Fyfe, Cripps, rookies x 5

Ruck- Gawn, nic nat , rookie

Fwd- Heeney , Gray, Pederson , rookies x 5

Have a few higher priced rookies in there with about $60k change, so plenty to play around with as rookies drop in and out.

dontblushbaby · 17/02/2018 at 15:01

Any love for Pearce Hanley Def / Mid @ 428k? I know he's had his injury issues but the coach says he's going well and will play more midfield

Thoughts on how much money in the war chest we should start with?

    ToughBretts · 17/02/2018 at 18:56

    I'd say 40k is a good number.
You want to have invested your cash in your round 1 side so it can build but a a little 40-50k cushion to correct anything you got wrong by round 3.

    Finnius123 · 18/02/2018 at 11:23

I have 500k – but thats because I'm not sure how anyone in the forwards/back will do this year. Planning to use it early once guys start setting it alight.

dontblushbaby · 17/02/2018 at 16:21

I try and have 100k, but last minute changes of rookies when teams are announced usually dwindles it down

TommyC99 · 17/02/2018 at 17:16

Thought on going in with 6 rolled gold premos in the guts? Should get me nice scores early but i don't wanna miss out when you can grab them at a bargain later on. Bite the bullet and start with 6 or go for 5 premos and a mid pricer?

    JohnDJ59 · 17/02/2018 at 17:25

I have six at the moment, have right from the start actually, but am now starting to waver a bit, since by cutting one of my six for a midpricer or even a rookie, I might be able to bolster my fwds a bit. PS my team is down the page a few places.

      Derek · 17/02/2018 at 19:12

If you go 6 deep, the M5 and M6 are usually a little hopeful and usually end in tears. Ie Rocky, Hanners, wines etc to make the money stretch.

Starting keepers need to be solid gold, not gold plated.

        TommyC99 · 17/02/2018 at 19:43

Yeah my midfield was looking like: Danger, Titch, Oliver, Fyfe, Pendles, Cripps + 2 rookies.
If i only wanted the 5 keepers, i would slot tracca in at M6 and i would take out Oliver or Pendles. If Tracca is averaging high enough to be a forward premo, switch him around.
        What do ya reckon?

          Derek · 17/02/2018 at 20:23

Pendles and Cripps best 8 mids? Few ahead of them

            TommyC99 · 18/02/2018 at 15:41

Yeah true, i'm just bias as i want a collingwood player in my side!
Would you go for the 6 premos in the mids or the 5 + Tracca?

    ToughBretts · 17/02/2018 at 18:58

I think this year the only rock solid, sure things are in the midfield, so lock in as many guaranteed keepers as you can.
In my opinion the forward line top 6 picture won't become clear until 7-8 rounds in, so spending 400-450k on these speculative mid-pricers is how seasons collapse.

Crackers · 17/02/2018 at 17:20

Gday community, you beautiful specimens. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

DEF: R.Laird, K.Simpson, A.Rance, E.Richards, T.Doedee, A.Morgan (N.Murphy, D.Mirra)
MID: P.Dangerfield, T.Mitchell, N.Fyfe, S.Pendlebury, J.Kennedy, D.Beams, W.Brodie, T.Kelly (J.Garlett, J.Worpel, D.Barry)

12.2k remaining.

    Derek · 17/02/2018 at 19:14

    Good team.

What are your plans with Ryder and round 10

      Big G · 18/02/2018 at 01:08

Good point Derek. I would go for Paddy Ryder (and perhaps Bobby Gray) in a heartbeat if it was not for that stupid Shanghai game. What are people's thoughts on the ruck options other than Gawn and NicNat? I am currently going with Sauce and Gawn with strong considerations given to Kreuzer and Stefan 'why the Dees ever trade me?'Martin.

        Derek · 18/02/2018 at 15:14

Ryder is a great option, will score very well. I think he will improve from last year.

He will be a big POD because of the round 10 bye, makes him even more attractive.

        Options are:

        1) hope a rookie, Cameron, English, pittonet, start round 1 so get them in, and they hold their place for round 10. Long shot.

        2) hope some other rookie ruck emerges, and use a trade to get them in prior to round 10.

        3) trade Ryder out round 10 to another premium, thank Patrick for his service and get a Darcy type to come home with.

        4) trade Ryder out. Then trade him back in. 2 valuable trades.

        5) do nothing and take a donut

          JohnDJ59 · 18/02/2018 at 15:47

I think you nailed about every option for us Derek,I'm still keeping him for the start at the moment, had him last year and was happy with the result,a bit of a POD then as well.I did look at other options, like Kreuz, who I also had last year, but he's a bit pricey for my liking.

            Derek · 18/02/2018 at 18:53

Another option is Dawson Simpson at R3. Expensive but might play a fair bit this year. Have him on bench until round 10 slow burning and make a few dollars plus gives cover if Gawn or Ryder miss a game or two. Ceglar might be similar option.

Expensive bench and $150k that could be used elsewhere.

Another option is to have a cheap DPP at R3, then trade in a playing DPP, Cox, Peterson, English (not much available) but they should be cheaper by then

              Crackers · 20/02/2018 at 01:53

At this stage I'm hoping a rookie looks like getting games early to cover the round 10 bye. Additions of Rockliff, Motlop and expected improvement from Wingard, SPP, Wines (even Gray maybe spending more time in the mids) has some serious H2A potential at his feet.

If this doesn't look likely, might have to settle for a Jacobs type. Lycett or Simpson might be options at R2 but prefer not to mess about in the ruck department. Very unlikely to run with such an expensive R3. Still hurting after the Lobb R/F DPP snub. Serious lack of DPP cover this year unfortunately.

    Finnius123 · 18/02/2018 at 12:58

    you need some more cash

      Crackers · 20/02/2018 at 01:58

Agree the warchest is looking rather bare, but satisfied with the team that feels balanced and reliable. Any specific moves you think could benefit the team whilst freeing up cash?

    Shake n Bake · 20/02/2018 at 16:00

Talks of Cripps playing forward this year. Is anyone starting to go a bit cold on him?

    KMax · 17/02/2018 at 20:21

Better resting in the forward then on the bench. Equals more SuperCoach points if he nails a goal or two.
    In my team.

      Big G · 17/02/2018 at 20:35

Is everyone certain he can average 110, when proven performers such as Beams, JPK and Pendels are not much more in price and Coniglio could be equal as good M6?.

    Derek · 17/02/2018 at 21:48

I heard the coach talking about giving curnow a bit of a run in the guts and said they were looking at switching Cripps and curnow on occasion. Can’t see it happening much.

    Finnius123 · 18/02/2018 at 12:58

Not enough of a POD for me at his price, injury history and scoring past

    Travo · 19/02/2018 at 09:13

Cripps will definitely be spending most time in the mid.

TOPHAWK1 · 18/02/2018 at 00:23

Pre JLT and some injury clouds, but here is my side as it sits right now.

DEF- Laird, Howe, B Ellis, O'Shea, Doedee, H Goddard. (Murray, Mirra)

MID- Dangerfield, D Martin, T Mitchell, Z Merrett, Fyfe, P Cripps, Rayner, LDU. (J Garlett, T Kelly, Worpel)

RUC- Gawn, Lycett (Cameron)

FWD- Heeney, Billings, Petracca, Stringer, J.Higgins, Venables. (L Keefe, L Ryan wce)

Cheers

    gordo29 · 18/02/2018 at 01:26

Liking the mids and the Ellis pick, all though I’m not sure if I would have the balls to run with lycett.

    Finnius123 · 18/02/2018 at 12:58

Going 6 premo mids might not pay out as it means you can't pick up as many bargains later on.

      TOPHAWK1 · 18/02/2018 at 13:05

Yes, you have a very valid point. Also there are many great midfield rookies which should be the main cash cows this season. My team will change another 300 times before the season starts, but I am now leaning to starting with 5 uber midfield premos only. Cheers mate!

        Derek · 18/02/2018 at 15:04

I’m going 5 in guts plus JOM.

Stringer? Don’t believe he will be playing midfield.

Surely Vardy is ahead of Lycett?

          TOPHAWK1 · 18/02/2018 at 18:05

Hi Derek. I heard that JOM is tearing the track apart at the moment. He seems to be in really good nick and is finally fully fit again. If he stays fit he could go 95+ this year. Seriously looking at him. Stringer has been ditched. Just wanted to put an indicative side out there for the community. Still have much work to do!

    TRIGGA_HAPPY · 18/02/2018 at 17:51

Bit of a head scratcher on lycett hawk?

      TOPHAWK1 · 18/02/2018 at 18:11

Hi Trigger. Lycett probably wont make the cut come round 1. Every year, I always like to save a few pennies on a R2. What do you think of Dawson Simpson or even a Billy Longer at $429K? His form was looking great at the end of last season and was rucking on his own, and is only 24 years old. Don't worry, Stringer has been scrapped already. Must have been the beer last night. LOL Cheers mate.

        TRIGGA_HAPPY · 18/02/2018 at 18:52

Ahh the good old beer goggles
If Lobb doesnt get over his groin then dawson will b in the box seat otherwise i think lobb will get first crack at # 1 ruck spot.

Dont know much about Billy but if he was going ok at year end then no reason he cant continue that this year

One i was big on for a long time was Darcy but then read Sandi is raring to go and wants to play as many games as possible in his final year.

So cooled a bit on him. But Rosco says no reason darcy cant play alongside Sandi.

        But.

        It is Ross Lyin. 😉

          Derek · 18/02/2018 at 18:58

I heard interview with saints coach who said, “right now, if team was to be picked today, Hicky would be ahead of Longer, but that could change”

    JohnDJ59 · 18/02/2018 at 22:13

Hi Hawk I like your first pick for defence in Laird,no room for Hibberd though, four of your top five mids are guns and the top three fwds look solid. We all keep working at it till we are happy,I've rearranged mine at least ten times, started with six mid guns and two rookies, but now I've gone five guns, one midpricer and two rookies,so always evolving.

James · 18/02/2018 at 04:21

Been more ins and outs than on valentine's day so far. Big $186,600 left
Not 100% convinced by Sauce, Houli, Hibberd, or Rayner
Feel good at the moment without Danger or Martin but will see how long that lasts
If Billings gets up by season start might have to slot him in

DEF: R.Laird, M.Hibberd, B.Houli, C.O'Shea, T.Doedee, D.Mirra (A.Naughton, S.Murray)

MID: T.Mitchell, J.Kelly, C.Oliver, Z.Merrett, N.Fyfe, P.Cripps, LDU, T.Kelly (N. Freeman, J.Dawson, N. Hofman)

RUCK: Sauce, M.Gawn (D.Cameron)

FWD: I.Heeney, D.Smith, C.Curnow, C.Rayner, J.Higgins, P.Ahern (J.Garlett, L.Ryan)

    Big G · 18/02/2018 at 13:52

I don't see the reason for the love for Devon Smith. Houli is hot and cold, I still have nightmares of his start to 2016 when he got 50 one week and 150 the next.

      Derek · 18/02/2018 at 14:56

Coach has said that Goddard will be playing mainly in defence this year. Watson has retired. Leaves an opening for either Smith, Parish or McGrath. Coach said that all will get time in guts, but my feeling is Devon will get the bulk of the time, he is a bit more mature and harder than the other two.

He is similar to Petracca with Lewis set to play mainly in defence this year, my tossing up

RightSaidFred · 18/02/2018 at 08:26

What are thoughts on Mitch Duncan? Flew under the radar last year and not convinced he'll dip despite arrival of GAJ.

Def: Hurley Laird Hibberd 5xrookie
Mid: Danger Mitchell M.Crouch Duncan Fyfe 6xrookie
Rucks: Ryder Gawn 1xloophole
Fwd: Heeney Walters Robinson Lobb 4xrookie

    Jam · 18/02/2018 at 08:52

    I’m keeping away from him.
4th in line. Means if there is a centre bounce then most likely there going to use Gaj, Selwood & Danger

      RightSaid Fred · 18/02/2018 at 09:00

Yeah, possibly, but think he'll spend at least as much time in the middle as GAJ and possibly Danger. Cats are looking for new paths to goal. Struggled to score in 2/3 finals.

      Finnius123 · 18/02/2018 at 12:57

      agreed

    Derek · 18/02/2018 at 14:48

Duncan not top 10. If you spend that much in round 1 you need to get a top 10 player.

      RightSaidFred · 18/02/2018 at 14:55

Had 10th best midfield average last year.

    ToughBretts · 18/02/2018 at 16:24

    He's locked into my team.
Finished the year with a 122 average from his last 10 games, and he's not one of the players that will be rotated forward with Gaz.
He also is extremely suited to the uncontested mark and chip game that Gary does so well.

      Derek · 18/02/2018 at 19:00

      Good info

Jim · 18/02/2018 at 08:48

What do people think?

Def: Hibberd, Simpson, Shaw, Sicily, Doedee, Mirra (Dawson, Murray)

Mid: Danger, Martin, Titchell, Fyfe, J.Selwood, Coniglio, O’Meara, Worpel (Ahern, Garlett, Kelly)

Ruck: Gawn, Lycett (English)

Fwd: Gray, Walters, D.Smith, Christensen, Higgins, W.Rioli (Ryan, Keefe)

    The_Blacksheep · 18/02/2018 at 10:55

First team I have seen without Cripps. Walters potentially set for more midfield time makes him very tempting. The only fwd selection I don't agree with is Shaw, reckon his SC days are over even with Williams injured. I am a tad bias though as he burnt me bad last year.

      Big G · 18/02/2018 at 13:53

Selwood an interesting POD, but he has never let me down.

        Derek · 18/02/2018 at 14:46

Selwood won’t improve. Players at that stage of their career don’t. I’d be looking at a younger version who has upside.

          Big G · 18/02/2018 at 21:53

As a M5 can he average 100-105 with his eyes closed though?

            TommyC99 · 23/02/2018 at 21:18

You can also grab him at 450k just after the byes

Tdevil · 18/02/2018 at 11:00

This is my lineup, probably gonna go less risky later, but wanted to know what people think. I can see all the 400k players in my team being top 6 in their respected positions.

DEF: Laird, Hibberd, Witherden, Hanley, O'Shea, Doedee (Murray, Morgan)

MID: Titch, Kelly, M Crouch, Cripps, Dow, LDU, Worpel (Wigg, Kelly, Barry)

FWD: Heeney, Gray, Petrecca, Curnow, Higgins, Venables (Ahern, Garlett)

Still got $103,500k for a possible upgrade from some of the lower priced premos.

    Tdevil · 18/02/2018 at 11:02

Sorry forget rucks, going Gawn and Nicnat

    Finnius123 · 18/02/2018 at 12:56

Witherden seriously risky. Only in his second year – not backing his durability or experience to continue the scoring. I reckon will average 85 which isn't good enough for a premo backman.

Finnius123 · 18/02/2018 at 11:19

This is my team – gone hard on the POD's. THe rookies are obviously pretty rough as I have no clue who will play at this stage.

DEF: Laird, Simpson, Sicily, M Hibberd (rookie north melbourne), O'Shea, Keefe (Smith, Ridley)

MID: Danger, Titch, Oliver, Zorko, Neale, Brayshaw, Brodie, Willsmore (LDU, Clarke, Freeman)

RUCK: Gawn, Dawson Simpson (English)

FWD: Heeney, Green, Walters, Higgins, Rose, Rioli (ballen, Ryan)

A huge 500k in the kitty so could get another premo if I wanted

    TOPHAWK1 · 18/02/2018 at 12:06

An interesting side Finnius. I like your Sicily and Neale picks. Neale is a genuine premo POD and always seems to fly under the radar. Not sure about Greene and Walters. Greene, despite his talent and class, will inevitably have a brain fade or two and spend some time on the pine. Walters is coached by Ross Lyon and knowing him, he could well be given a new role this year. (Watch this very closely before selecting him)

Dawson Simpson selection is ballsy in the ruck, but I am considering the same move with either him or Scott Lycett. I always like saving some cash in the rucks to spend in the midfield. Good luck!!

      Finnius123 · 18/02/2018 at 12:15

Cheers TopHawk – surely Green will have worked on his aggression in the off season. GWS need him at half-forward, and the leadership group will have had strong words with him about not doing stupid stuff – like punching people! As the forward line is a mess I am giving him the benefit of the doubt at this stage.

Walters is very high risk/high reward. Looking at his numbers from the back half of last year if he continues that way in the JLT I will find it almost impossible not to pick him. However if he begins to spend too much time in the forward pocket for my liking I will shift him on… Probably bring sicily forward and chuck another premo in the back line.

        TOPHAWK1 · 18/02/2018 at 12:32

I agree 100%. I will be watching Walters like a hawk as well in the JLT. If he runs alongside Fyfe, Neale, Blakely, and Bradley Hill in the midfield, its game on. (I will probably pick him too then) Just watch Rosco to see what he does with his new prized mid recruit Andrew Brayshaw. If he spends a lot of time in the midfield, and Walters fluffs around in the forward line, then beware.

          Derek · 18/02/2018 at 17:49

I have heard really good reports about Brayshaw

What prompted Walters move to midfield last year? Did someone get injured?

            Derek · 18/02/2018 at 17:52

Did Langdon or Blakey do a shoulder? Or both. I’d be weary of Walters role.

            Browncow · 18/02/2018 at 18:17

Likewise re Brayshaw. Walters move was more necessity after early drubbings. Fyfe and Mundy spent more time forward (injury / pace) and Walters and some of the kids stepped up.

Krups · 18/02/2018 at 11:59

Jordon De Goey in trouble for drink driving

Baggy Pants · 18/02/2018 at 12:33

Not hearing many comments on the round 10 bye situation. Are people not putting Suns or Port players until after the round 10 and if they are what is their backup plan.

    Finnius123 · 18/02/2018 at 12:55

Literally just not considering them. They will need to average 4-5 ppg higher than their counterparts to make up for the doughnut/rookie score in round ten. Good premo upgrades after the bye to get you through rounds 12, 13 and 24.

      Baggy Pants · 18/02/2018 at 13:14

I think thats the way to go as well, just hope Rocky doesn't have a blinder start to the season.

    Derek · 18/02/2018 at 14:00

It is doing my head in. I want Ryder at R1, but I don’t have a solution to round 10

Have Barlow as well, should be able to cover him

Big G · 18/02/2018 at 13:38

What are people's thoughts on Menegola? I hear people say GAJ will affect his scoring, but remember he averaged 100 last year with Dnger, Selwood and Duncan on fire each week. Is anyone considering Pendels as a nice POD?

    Derek · 18/02/2018 at 14:04

Most people are thinking that $550 is a lot. Considering you can get Beams, rocky, Parker Cripps for same or cheaper.

Thinking Ablett will play centre and forward a fair bit contest with Menagola for points.

If billings has hammy problems, I’ll think about Menagola

      Big G · 18/02/2018 at 14:22

I would only consider him as a forward.

        Derek · 18/02/2018 at 17:25

I would too, but you still have to compare his value to others, he seems overpriced even factoring in a premium for him being a forward

redgumwon · 18/02/2018 at 15:14

Thoughts on Kane Lambert or Michael Walters as an F2? Tossing up between those 2 along with Billings and Toby Greene

    Tibor · 18/02/2018 at 17:31

Save yourself 40k and take Petracca instead

      paul · 20/02/2018 at 20:52

      Got Lambert as F2 POD

    Derek · 18/02/2018 at 17:46

    Billings only has to kick straight. Kicked 23 – 36 last year (6 – 13 in 2016).

If it was 36 – 23 instead he would be $560k this year.

Of course, we hear he will be getting more idfield time this year.

      TommyC99 · 18/02/2018 at 18:08

So you would take him regardless of the recent injury news?

        Derek · 18/02/2018 at 19:05

I read he was back running 3 days later.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a way to get him out of the AFLX. He was one of the players at their big launch and for him not to play wasn’t a great look. You never know.

Plenty of time before round one to see him run flat out

    David C · 20/02/2018 at 15:43

With Matera on board and Fyfe playing forward Walters is a good option. He can go big too.

Tibor · 18/02/2018 at 17:10

Any thoughts on Jesse Hogan at 383 k. Has had a run of bad luck especially last, year and if he gets a decent run he may score heavily. I wouldn't normally touch a young key fwd but at this price he might make some handy coin…

    Derek · 18/02/2018 at 17:40

I would love him to do well, even if he won’t be in my team.

He is good value, but won’t be top 6 forward and can’t see him making a lot of cash.

Hoping to get him late in a draft team

Shake n bake · 18/02/2018 at 17:33

Seeing alot of teams going cold on nic nat, which l think might be a good idea. Does lose Mitchell & Priddas in the guts not much there in my eyes to ruck to! Will have to do alot around the ground to generate pts. Price still very awkward thought he might have been cheeper being out for the yr. And is injury prone. For now im starting Ryder & Gawn.

    Derek · 18/02/2018 at 17:59

i Expected him to be cheaper, under $400k, then he would be good value and maybe worth the risk.

Without any R3 DPP option this year, to risky for me.

      Shake n bake · 18/02/2018 at 18:04

Definitely worth the risk if he was under that $400k mark. But as it stands l wont be starting him Derek.

        Derek · 18/02/2018 at 19:08

This is coming from someone who has started TBC, Lobbe & Sandi at R2 the last 3 years. Maybe I’ve learnt my lesson.

          Shake n bake · 18/02/2018 at 19:17

I bet when the season starts you will stick with Ryder!!

    TOPHAWK1 · 18/02/2018 at 18:19

Hi Shake, Not a snow ball's chance in hell I am starting with Nic Nat. I heard whispers from West Coast that he is still being eased into things very gently. It will take him time to get back to full confidence in his body, and match hardened. Look at Fyfe last year. After that leg break in 2016, it took him till the later rounds of 2017 to really find his mojo again. Same will be the case with Nic Nat I reckon. Dont have any real high expectations for him in 2018.

    David C · 20/02/2018 at 15:40

Are you going to take a donut in round 9 or trade Ryder?

Shake n bake · 18/02/2018 at 18:29

Your right hawk, might not even see him in the pre season. You still going with Lycett?

    TOPHAWK1 · 18/02/2018 at 20:00

    Who? Hahahaha

Still possible, picking up 250K to spend on other lines is very tempting. Lycett is very capable of producing decent scores, but Vardy is there as well. Right now, I will probably change my mind. Gotta think about winning the big prize, but want to help win one of my leagues as well. Look out for my "Guns and Rookies" league. Will post details tonight. Cheers

      Shake n bake · 18/02/2018 at 20:14

Definitely look out for that hawk. Still a few spots in my league aswell would like if you jumped in hawk 212948.

    Derek · 18/02/2018 at 23:52

Hanners has had no pre season. Is struggling to even play round 1.

Plays too much on wing now to get back to Uber

    Russty_ · 19/02/2018 at 03:24

Pendles could I guess, but at 30 years old (how time flies!) , might be getting a bit tired of carrying his struggling Team, coached by someone who probably should've been replaced already by someone with some new ideas.

    ProTravo · 19/02/2018 at 09:22

Hanners is still relatively young, if he can stay fit I think he will be a great option.

Macca · 18/02/2018 at 20:11

Hi Community
The more I work team the more midprice it becomes.
Do the same every year.
As the rookies appear will work them in.
Team at moment

DEF Yeo Witherden TMac Seeds Bonner Naughton ( Doedee Mirra )

MID Danger Titch Fyfe Beams Cripps JOM LDU Wigg ( Smith Ahern Holman )

RUC Jacobs Gawn ( Cameron )

FWD Heeney Petracca Curnow Crameri Balic Starcevich ( Rioli Ryan )

Finish top 1% most years with this plan of attack but always 2/3 wrong midpricers.
What do people think.

    TOPHAWK1 · 18/02/2018 at 21:22

    Hi Macca,

I hate to have to say this, but I am not a fan of this team. Your midfield and rucks are OK, BUT your back and forward lines need some serious work IMO. Way too many mid pricers there. Seedsman, Bonner, Crameri, and Balic are the 4 dudes you seriously need to have another look at. Just my take though. Good luck mate.

      Macca · 18/02/2018 at 21:44

      Thanks Tophawk

I know its risky but served me well last 5/6 years.
Generate enough cash to get to full premo week after byes.
But nearly impossible to nail to right midpricers.
My league games are always interesting with atleast 10 unique

Good mate of mine went into last season more midpriced than i ever have
      and finished top 200.
There is no proven secret to success in this game it's just good to hear
      other peoples thoughts.

    Tibor · 19/02/2018 at 07:49

I tend to do much the same Macca and just keep finding mid price blokes I really like. Overall Tophawks advice will be right most likely but it is handy when you pick the right mid price. Clayton Oliver from round one last year was criticised at this time of year but worked out very nicely and their will be others this year. Throughout last year we started to see a changing of the guard with the fall of long term premos like heater and even Pendles and mid prices made the leap. There are real opportunities for more of this with Carlton starting to improve, The demons really emerging and a very new west coast midfield. Hawthorn have had a refresh and throw up some interesting opportunities. Better clubs introduce their rookies slowly with development in mind and this makes finding one that tears out of the blocks with big sc scores harder than ever.

I say back yourself and go the mid price madness option… just make sure you get the right ones…

      neil Demons Delight · 19/02/2018 at 11:10

    TommyC99 · 18/02/2018 at 22:15

What rank do you need to have been in past years to join Toppa?

      TOPHAWK1 · 18/02/2018 at 23:04

Top 10K or better is an indication, but not necessarily the rule. Cheers

Cheers Toppa! I'm in. Name is "If It Ain't Boak" which is definitely subject to change. Last year, i recovered from a slow start to finish around 3k. Got a full pre season under my belt so looking to finish higher this year!

Welcome to the Guns and Rookies league mate. Your final ranking in 2017 was VERY impressive!! Be confident and bold! You beat me last year. Cheers John

Think we where in a couple leagues together last year ( Macca's Magic )

      TOPHAWK1 · 18/02/2018 at 23:11

Not necessarily. I believe in mid priced players/PODS, but only ones with real strategic relevance IMO. You have a lot of mid pricers in your side right now. Cheers

Birchall will be struggling to make round 1, if he doesn’t Mirra will fill that role, all going well Birchall won’t be far away. He is great value, but if not named round 1 and unlikely for round 2 will have pass.

Sandi may become Gawn.
Zerrett may become Ross / Fyfe.

Thoughts / Comments welcome.

    Tibor · 19/02/2018 at 11:50

Witherden is big cash for a nine game veteran. Impressive nine game effort but not enough revealed form to justify that money imo. Stef Martin is ok but not if Archie Smith gets a gig. Big Max might be the better bet. I assume it's a typo and you mean Walters. I've seen quite a few teams with him but personally can't work out why anyone would pick him over Petracca. To each there own and good luck. If nothing else my suggestions save you some coin. Even more if you get Harry Taylor instead of Witherden.

      Blaknight · 19/02/2018 at 12:06

      Tanks for your comments.

Totally agree that Witherden is big cash. Originally I had McGrath in. My D4 will most likely change.

I really like Martin however he is a big IF, if Archie Smith plays and yes that Walters.

Thoughts on JOM? Was an instant cross off my list at the start of pre season but i am starting to see a lot of people picking him. I had Tracca at M6 but this new found interest in JOM has got me curious. If i go with JOM, i can get Kruezer instead of Jacobs, but it means i can only pick 1 of Tracca or Dev Smith.

    Derek · 19/02/2018 at 22:30

JOM was in my first draft team, hasn’t budged from M6.

TOPHAWK1 · 19/02/2018 at 20:49

Hi Community.

What about Toby McLean from the doggies?

He has forward status in SC in 2018 and is priced at $470K. Played 19 games last season with an average of 86 SC. He has very high ceiling potential with a high score last season of 129 SC points. Given his age is only 22, is this kid ready to break out in 2018, especially with the likelihood of him spending plenty of time in the midfield? Could he push his average close to the 95-100 mark this season?

Thoughts appreciated.

    TOPHAWK1 · 19/02/2018 at 20:51

    Correction- McLean has Forward/Mid status.

    Liam · 19/02/2018 at 22:31

The bulldogs rotate their mids so much it’s hard to choose any of them.

I saw some stat that Bont had the highest amount of midfield time last year for the dogs and it was around 55-60%.

      Chooka · 19/02/2018 at 22:41

Probably expains why The Bont had dropped off last year, was heavily considering him this season.

      TOPHAWK1 · 19/02/2018 at 23:04

That high paced mid rotation strategy worked great in 2016, but it is not sustainable in the long term. (As we found out last year)

I expect the Bulldogs to introduce a new game plan in 2018.

A combination of speed and man on man accountability combined. I see an opportunity for Toby McLean within that structure.

Gazza · 20/02/2018 at 07:22

    Gazza · 20/02/2018 at 20:22

Mate i person think longer would burn you bad be for abit more cash you could go a safer option look at the moment i have Gawn and not show Sandilands/NicNat

    Dex_ · 21/02/2018 at 14:08

Longer may be a risk – Hickey can take his sopt, or points…
Sandi is done and NicNat's knee is cooked.

in the end though, go with your gut!

Tibor · 21/02/2018 at 07:37

Defenders: Laird. Salem. Harry Taylor. McGrath. Angus Brayshaw. Cam O'Shea. Rookie bench

Mids. Mitchell. Fyfe. Cripps. Whitfield Heeny. JOM. Rayner. LDU. More rookies inc Jack Trengove if picked

Rucks. Big Max with Sauce. English

Fwd. Dev Smith, Petracca. Sicily. Hogan. Plus rookies f5. F 6. And bench. Seriously considering Archie Smith re dpp with English

Any thoughts

    Gazza · 21/02/2018 at 07:42

Salem Hogan and Whitfield ??? risky

      Tibor · 21/02/2018 at 09:27

Thanks for the reply Gazza. You're right but I'm happy take a risk so long as I'm happy with those risky players progressing through the pre season not injured. Keep a close eye on roles played in JLT etc, hopefully it's a bit better than pure guess work. Having Whitfield instead of the Bont allows me to have Titch instead of Josh Kelly but I could easily change my mind on that. I really like some of Melbourne's mid price offerings and Brayshaw and Salem are my best bets here. I took Oliver at this time last year and copped some ridicule for it but it turned out very nicely. Hogan is the one I'll likely lose in favour of better cash cow alternatives.
As for Petracca I'm a huge wrap and he will be a superstar imo.

When it's all said and done they're all risks aren't they….

    Dex_ · 21/02/2018 at 14:05

    Hi Tibor,
No 1 rule for SC – follow your gut.

Salem/Whitfiled/Hogan – maybe 1 risk too many, but like your testicular fortitude to run them mate!

Taylor is a good pick – if he plays defense, not forward.
Heeny should be in fwd, your DPP swings should come from rooks (at start of season at least).
Like the Sauce pick, always plays – consistent.
like the Petracca pick, i'm waiting for JLT to decide on Smith and Sicily myself.

Sam · 21/02/2018 at 13:52

Very rough first draft:

DEF: Laird, Lloyd, Mills, Birchall, Doedee, Murray, Naughton, O'Shea

MID: Dangerfield, Martin, Mitchell, Fyfe, Griffen, Brayshaw, Davies-Uniacke, Kelly, Barry, Higgins, O'Brien

RUCK: Gawn, Naitanui, English

FWD: Heeney, Gray, Dahlhaus, Boak, Christensen, Fogarty, Ahern, Garlett

Any feedback much appreciated !

    Dex_ · 21/02/2018 at 14:00

    Hi Sam,
Like the Birch pick, dirt cheap – only need 70-75 a week to make coin.
I feel the big 3 in the middle is a bit much, you could probably drop one to a cripps to free up some coin.
Griff is interesting, if he can get on park and be selected could be good – risky for mine.
Nic Nat a firm no – he is likely to miss season opener and his knee is cooked.
Like the Gray selection, but adding Boak as well may cause you grief in round 9 when they dont play.

      Sam · 21/02/2018 at 17:52

      Cheers mate

    Derek · 22/02/2018 at 14:14

I like the team. I have Birchall but waiting on news if he will play.

    I’d swap Griffen to JOM.

If you are playing for rank, I’d go an extra premium in the midfield rather than a safe Mills or Boak. You need to nail an extra big gun who scores big to start season, Mills and Boak will get you 80’s.

If short cash, even Coniglio a good option

      hedski · 22/02/2018 at 16:15

Birchall won't start the season, article on afl.com, knee still playing up.

        Derek · 22/02/2018 at 16:38

        Bunnies need a reshuffle.

          hedski · 22/02/2018 at 16:58

Morrison for you guys could be worth a look, similar price but one played 1 game, Clarko big wraps on him.
Oh yeah only played one game.

            Derek · 22/02/2018 at 17:06

I think Mirra is a lock for round 1 now.

TommyC99 · 21/02/2018 at 16:27

Kruezer, Goldy or Jacobs?

Billings, Greene or Menegola?

Baggy Pants · 21/02/2018 at 20:26

The rucks are doing my head in Nic Nat is looking less likely for round 1. Cant make a convincing case for other rucks for a variety of reasons. Any love out there for a cheap option like Dawson Simpson and see how the others perform once the season gets going.
With Lobb on modified program, not a deffinite for round 1. Could we maybe carry Simpson until Ryder has his bye.

    Derek · 22/02/2018 at 14:07

Simpson has to get selected first.

If he plays there will be a lot look at him on the back of Witts doing so well last year.

I started Lobbe a couple of years ago, he was #1 ruck at Port and was hopeless. If it wasn’t for Witts, no one would be thinking about him.

      baggy Pants · 22/02/2018 at 15:18

I agree Derek, but not sure who Greater Sydney will use in the ruck if Lobb doesn't get up. It will be interesting to see if Simpson gets a game in the JLT series.

    Sam · 23/02/2018 at 12:57

Why's no one talking about Brodie Grundy? Have I missed somehting

      Shake n bake · 23/02/2018 at 15:30

      Cox

Jamie · 21/02/2018 at 20:32

I think I must be missing something but why is noone considering boak in the forward line? Especially considering the lack of options, he is a proven supercoach scorer and his move to the forward line should only entice us. Thoughts?

Also Parish looks like a breakout contender in an essendon side who looks set to go into the top 4, whats the risk with him?

    Mr.Brightside · 21/02/2018 at 22:10

IMO Boak has missed the boat as far SC relevance and I'm not sure about D.Parish however I believe that A.McGrath will have a breakout season in 18

      Harrison · 22/02/2018 at 10:30

      Agree with McGrath

        Derek · 22/02/2018 at 14:02

Goddard will be playing as the sweeping defender this year. A job I thought McGrath might do. If they put McGrath into the guts, get him, if they don’t, Goddard will take his points. JLT close watch.

If Birchall doesn’t play, will consider McGrath if he is getting mid time in JLT

    Derek · 22/02/2018 at 13:57

Boak is a solid option and should score similar to last year. 85’s. If that is what you want, good option.

I prefer my forwards to be midfielders with upside from last year. I’d look at Barlow or Robinson who you know will be pure mids.

Parish is still building his strength. I think Devon will be the one who gets more midfield time. Parish should improve, but not enough to make good cash or to become a keeper.

Warblegarble · 21/02/2018 at 23:19

My 2018 team, first edition. Thoughts?

DEF – Yeo, Laird, Hibberd, O'Shea, Doedee, Murray (Keefe, Mirra)

MID – Dangerfield, Martin, Fyfe, Macrae, Cripps, Petracca, Dow, Davies-Uniacke (Ahern, Kelly, Worpel)

RUC – Gawn, Jacobs (Hayes)

FWD – Heeney, Billings, Dahlhaus, Fogarty, Higgins, Garlett (Dawson, Ryan)

$64,700 in the bank.

    Derek · 22/02/2018 at 13:50

Yeo could be a master stroke, especially with WCE having to restructure there team a bit this year.

Yeo is at his best at half back, running out of defenders, taking intercept marks. If he plays that role again he will be worth his big starting price.

If he is pushed up the ground into a forward role, forget him.

Even if he is given a midfield role, can’t see him doing that well, he isn’t that type of player.

Is role in the team is everything.

Has had a interrupted pre season as well

HaRRy · 22/02/2018 at 00:21

Great to be back for 2018! lets have some feedback please community

DEF: Laird, Simpson, Shaw, Brayshaw, O'shea, Doedee (murray, morgan)

MID: Danger, Dusty, Titch, Fyfe, Beams, Dow, A.Brayshaw, LDU (kelly, spargo, Holman)

RUCK: Jacobs, Gawn (Cameron)

FWD: Heeney, Smith, Petracca, Christensen, Higgins, Ahern (venables, ryan)

Am i too light in the midfield? are Dow LDU & Brayshaw all going to make enough cash & points to start with all 3…

    Derek · 23/02/2018 at 09:30

pretty solid team. F2 a bit weak.

Having 3 expensive rookies in guts will slow your cash generation, I would pick just one or maybe two and use extra cash to upgrade Smith or Petracca to Billings

Simpson and Shaw. This is your 2018?

TheGreatBozza · 22/02/2018 at 17:47

It’s good to be back. Here’s my first crack without too much research:

D – Laird, Hibberd, Sicily, Maynard, O’Shea, Cumming (Murray, Morgan)
M – Danger, Mitchell, Fyfe, Beams, Cripps, Coniglio, LDU, Kelly (Ahern, Holman, Worpel)
R – Gawn, Lycett (Cameron)
F – Heeney, Walters, Petracca, Christensen, Garlett, Higgins (Rioli, Spargo)

300k spare while I consider my ruck options

I’m thinking mid pricers are the way to go in the FWD line, with the top end of the mids and back men so strong. It’s hard to pass on the likes of the Pendles, Bont etc at $550-600k but I think the top end talent in the mids is elite

Loo · 23/02/2018 at 00:50

Played around with something a little different

Def – Simpson, Houli, TMac, Seedsman, O’Shea, keeffe (Doedee, Mirra)

Mids – Titch, Danger, Zerrett, Kelly, Zaharakis, Conigs, Armitage, LDU (Wigg, Powell, Kelly)

Rucks – Big Ben, Gawn (Cameron)

Fwds – McLean, Lambert, Robinson, Gallucci, Setterfield, Rioli (Venables, Fritsch)

All rooks subject to change obviously.

All thoughts welcome, keep in mind that I know it’s different and am therefore keen to hear people’s pros and cons to the unusual picks.

Cheers guys

Having Witherdon, Rockliff, Lycett, Smith and Lobb could be a problem, too much of a gamble. 2/3 of them could be alright, gambles can pay off though

RDT

Def – Laird, Simpson, Hibberd (Melb), Seedsman, Pearce, Doedee (Murray, Mirra)

Mid – Titch, Danger, Zerrett, Dusty, Kelly, Conigs, Dow, Brayshaw (LDU, Wigg, Kelly)

Rucks – Big, Ben, Gawn (Cameron)

Fwd – McLean, Acres, Robinson, Stephenson, Keeffe, Rioli (Powell, Fritsch)

Thoughts? Not thrilled with the forwards but waiting to see how Heeney and Billings are going closer to round 1.

Cheers Guys

I'm sure this is the wrong thread – but has anybody seen an Old Ocker 2017 complete stats spreadsheet anywhere? (or something similar?). Cheers
