Supercoach Rd 18 : Rookie Scout Report

Published by Barron Von Crow on

Hello everybody and welcome to the Round 18 Supercoach Scout Report. It’s another round and another week where the Supercoach Gods decided to be a bunch of jerks and go around messing about with everyone’s side.

“Hey, let’s go injure Pendlebury and take Elliot Yeo out at the last minute!” said one SC God.

“I’ve got an even better idea! It’s not enough Sloane gets tagged, lets concuss him too!” said the other

“Pffft, that’s amateur hour,” said the third “I’m gonna take Patrick Dangerfield, I’m gonna break his foot and I’m gonna make everyone suffer!” (the lesson here is not even the Supercoach Gods can stop Patrick Dangerfield).

Anyway, I’m sure we’ve all got our little gripes, but we’ll all have to work together as a community to get through it the best we can. Now, on to the scout report!

St Kilda VS Essendon

Josh Battle (8 SCPoints) made his AFL debut here, but only registered the 5 disposals and a goal. He’ll probably be back out of the side sooner rather than later, and obviously still needs some development, but I’m sure it was a nice reward for him for a seasons worth of work in the VFL.

Ben Long (45 SCPoints) played his 4th AFL game, but again didn’t trouble the scorers too much, with just 2 kicks from his 11 disposals.

For the Bombers, Andrew McGrath (81 SCPoints) continued to push his case for the Rising Star award, with a 23 disposal, 5 mark game. He had a quiet patch between Round 8-14 where he averaged just 64 SCPoints, but is now running on a 3 round average of 84 SCPoints.

James Stewart (83 SCPoints) could have done some real damage in Supercoach if he converted his shots, but unfortunately he booted 4 behinds. Thankfully he managed to add 21 disposals and 7 marks to that, so he didn’t bomb out at all. David Myers (67 SCPoints) had his usual game, he scored just 69 from 31 disposals in Round 16, so he probably did better to score 67 from 20 disposals this week.

Geelong VS Hawthorn

Two late changes saw both Zach Guthrie (46 SCPoints) and Sam Simpson (54 SCPoints) included for Andrew Mackie and Scott Selwood. Both will continue to have questionable job security from here.

Brandan Parfitt (53 SCPoints) and James Parsons (32 SCPoints) both have relatively quiet games, with Parfitt finishing with 11 disposals and Parsons 8.

Ryan Burton (57 SCPoints) was pretty quiet Supercoach wise, despite the 19 touches. He’s now running on a two week average of just 60 SCPoints and with a BE of 113, it might be time for the 7% of teams that own him to think about moving him on.

Blake Hardwick (55 SCPoints) only had the 10 touches, like Burton, he’s running on a pretty low two week average of 52 SCPoints, after some decent form prior and is averaging just 9.5 disposals over that period, whereas he averaged 14 disposals over his first 11 games.

Port Adelaide VS North Melbourne

Sam Powell-Pepper (83 SCPoints) was big here with 26 disposals and 2 goals, but he couldn’t match the heights of his other teammates (S.Gray, Westhoff, Wingard, Ebert and Wines all got 25+ possies and scored 114+), but that was likely due to his 7 turnovers and 53% disposal efficiency. Still a decent score, though he’ll need a repeat of that sort of game with his BE at 84 this week.

Matthew White (69 SCPoints) has looked to firmly settle in that 60-70 SCPoints range, with 3 of his 5 games being in that bracket. Joe Atley (31 SCPoints) again was handball heavy, 10 of his 13 disposals came this way and that impacted him there and Dan Houston (55 SCPoints) only had the 10 disposals, but he’s had scores of 90, 92 and 91 in his last 5 weeks.

In bad news for 30% of Supercoachers, Mitch Hibberd (7 SCPoints) injured his shoulder early in the game and had just 2 disposals. Daniel Nielson (42 SCPoints), Corey Wagner (61 SCPoints), Jy Simpkin (55 SCPoints) and Cameron Zurhaar (30 SCPoints) all played for North and had mixed results. I imagine they will continue to play as the losses mount for North however.

Gold Coast VS Collingwood

Jarrod Witts (86 SCPoints) had 42 hitouts and 16 disposals, but still couldn’t crack the ton in Supercoach, while Trent McKenzie (71 SCPoints) scored well after having just 13 disposals. Likewise, Ben Ainsworth (69 SCPoints) scored well from just 12 possessions, thanks to adding 2 goals to his stat sheet and Jack Bowes (47 SCPoints) finished with just the 9 disposals.

Matthew Scharenberg (70 SCPoints) again found the ball a bit, but again had mostly uncontested possessions, which will always have a big impact in Supercoach. Will Hoskin-Elliot (82 SCPoints) again scored 82 SCPoints and has a 5 round average of 75 SCPoints.

GWS VS Sydney

Harry Perryman (81 SCPoints) had the best game of his short career, putting in a career high 20 disposals and 6 tackles. He’s hitting some decent form over the past fortnight with scores of 70 and 81 to his name.

Nic Newman (64 SCPoints) had a bit of a quiet one, with his 2nd lowest score of his career, with just 16 disposals, which is his 2nd lowest tally for the year. Lewis Melican (58 SCPoints) had one of his lowest scores in a few months, but still finds his 5 round average at 67 SCPoints.

Melbourne VS Adelaide

Jay Kennedy-Harris (88 SCPoints) continued his strong form from the VFL, finding the ball 28 times, which was a new career high for him. Might be one to watch out for as a cheap downgrade option who could have strong potential while the Demons have a few injuries.

Mitch Hannan (26 SCPoints) was impacted by his clanger count of 6, which took a big chunk out of his 13 disposal game. Joel Smith (47 SCPoints) continued his return from his previous injury, though didn’t gain all that much cash from his first price rise, so still sits at $132K.

Hugh Greenwood (71 SCPoints) probably did well considering he only played 64% ToG, he had the highest amount of pressure acts from any player in the game (only injured players in Kent, Sloane and Lever had les ToG than him) with 16 disposals and 7 tackles. Still some cash to be made from him yet.

Riley Knight (72 SCPoints) had just the 13 disposals, but made up for it with a goal and 6 tackles, while Andy Otten (46 SCPoints) and Jake Kelly (53 SCPoints) were more subdued after scores of 94 SCPoints and 104 SCPoints last week.

Richmond VS Brisbane

Ivan Soldo (50 SCPoints) played his 3rd game and finished with 50 SCPoints from 8 disposals and 21 hitouts. Probably a good result since in his debut he had 42 hitouts and only scored 62 SCPoints. Dan Butler (97 SCPoints) booted 3 goals and had his highest SC score of the year. He’s now scored 76, 71, 36 and 97 over the past month.

The hottest rookie on the market came through again for us, Alex Witherden (109 SCPoints) had a big 28 disposal game and is now averaging 87 SCPoints. At this time of year you might not be starting him if you have him, but if he can keep that scoring rate up he’ll be an excellent emergency option every week.

Hugh McCluggage (67 SCPoints) continued his solid form with a 14 disposal, 1 goal game. If he started off at a normal 123K price instead of an inflated 200K he might have been a good starting option. Jarrod Berry (66 SCPoints) had his lowest disposal tally (12) since Round 10, but with 7 marks and 7 tackles he still managed to pull something out of the game. Cedric Cox (54 SCPoints) returned for his first AFL action since Round 5, but still looks a bit off from being ready for full time action.

Carlton VS Western Bulldogs

Sam Petrevski-Seton (54 SCPoints) couldn’t match the brilliance of his Round 16 effort, though he had slightly less contested ball and was also less effective when he did have it. He has been a very up and down player at times, but that could just mean he’ll be in for a big score this week.

Zac Fisher (41 SCPoints) had 13 disposals and 4 tackles.

Fremantle VS West Coast

Luke Ryan (67 SCPoints) had a career high in disposals, but it didn’t equal massive Supercoach success thanks to a career high 6 clangers in there too. He was averaging just 1.6 prior to Round 17, so hopefully that’s just an off day for him.

Brennan Cox (46 SCPoints) had about the usual output we expect from him, while Sean Darcy (67 SCPoints) had 32 hitouts and 11 disposals. That score of 99 in Round 15 may just be an outlier at this point and Ryan Nyhius (48 SCPoints) played his 2nd game, he had just 10 disposals, but didn’t kick 4 goals, so obviously his score suffered.

For the Eagles, Nathan Vardy (46 SCPoints) had another poor week, with just the 4 disposals. He’s been in single digits the past 2 games now while averaging 55 SCPoints. after having a hot 6 week period where he averaged 91 SCPoints.

Comprehensive as usual.Interesting Dawson Simpson had a big day who did he ruck against was it Tippett if so a fine effort particularly if MUMMY gets injured/suspended Thanks BVC your efforts are really appreciated

neil Demons Delight

thanks Baron still a good effort from Simpson

Nothing on josh thomas ?

For the 51% of us without Adams – 460k and no Pendles. Like it.

If your picking him up Kev close your eyes when he's about to kick it

As a Treloar owner all year I tend to do that anyway when a Collingwood player is in possession :p

You wouldnt want to be anywhere near Treloar & Adams playing golf. Shank brothers

neil Demons Delight

good to get a laugh Mr pies

He also may cop some more attention – both him and treleor now that pendles is out.

Any chance Sloane will get up this week?
This has been a terrible SC season for many.

5 trades left and dealing with Pendles, Danger also. Add to that the spud outputs of Gawn, Stef Martin, Dahlhaus, Lynch, Rance. Ughhh.

Sounds like it. Stains everywhere. So Pendles to Selwood seems to fix one issue. What about Sloane? He has been terrible for the past 6 weeks. Do I burn another trade and replace him with Bont?

Stick with sloane with the minimal trades i rekon.

smh, if i drop marks its your fault

Have $530k to spend by trading out Pendles. Bring in Oliver or Fyfe?

Clayton the man

Fyfe looks to have a higher ceiling, also a bit cheaper.

Have had Oliver from the start, genus like Macrae and will be ultra consistent. 100-110 every week almost.

Just* not genus wtf

My season is officially over .

Thank you

7 trades left $130K in kitty. Who is a bigger priority to upgrade, Newman my D6, of Lynch from GCS my F6.

Lynch. Newman doesn't score 30's

Skinny McThin

Is it time to trade Spud Pendlebury? He was once the greatest seagull in the AFL whilst also ave 6 contested a game but, he hasn't won a hard ball since round 21 last year and now he's talking about taking the rest of the year off because of a sore finger. He is softer than melted ice cream and has a heart the size of a dehydrated pea.

Bit rough considering he's one of the best midfielders we've seen this decade

neil Demons Delight

Don't know what you are talking about cobber.HE IS AN ABSOLUTE CHAMP.particularly at S C Very welcome at the dees

James T

Cheers Barron, this is my most anticipated article each week! Did James Cousins not play for Box Hill in the VFL this week?

He is injured for the season

James T

Oh damn, that's annoying to hear! Cheers for the info guys

He;s out for the season.

I'm one of this few without Docherty but have orchestrated a plan to get him in next week for either Newman or shaw.

Pendles to Selwood
Parsons out, swap bolton to fwd, swap witherden to mid and got Oscar Junker in for $$$ and allow def/mid (I have ryan as emergency and if needed witherden through the DPP.) This allows me to only have Greenwood as my non premium player as of yet and leaves me with 5 trades and 270k in the bank – 4 trades left after getting Docherty on next week. Bank could also be a straight swap for gawn at this rate provided gawn shows something!

What do people think of Connor Blakely as a POD for Pendles? Really need a POD that not many people have at all.

I like his game!!

and plus no one has him

Yeah thats why i was thinking about it, no one has him and he does everything stat wise

Hey BVC great report as usual. You left witherden out of the rookie be list

neil Demons Delight

in the top 3 in most of my leagues but only 11th in TRIGGS HAPPY PLACE. Either I am in some really poor leagues or Trigg has assembled an elite league. The latter no doubt.I play SHAKE IN 10 TH and Paul 9 th plays Jock 12th The two winners are still in it.. To put in in perspective Shake n Bake is leading in one of my leagues with me close up but neither of us are good enough to be in TRIGGS top 8 THIS IS WHY I PLAY THIS GAME

Shake n bake

That game l lost to freekickhawthorn by 17pts when l had Higgins on the field and he was a late out will prob keep me out of the finals in Triggs league. In my league up there cazaly your 8th Neil l really hope you can hang on there!! Ive got 8 trades left with $275k in the kitty. I might bring in beams as bench cover in my mids.

neil Demons Delight

sorry mate been checking your team and you are right mid cover weak .. I will be making one change and you have him Going to be close Time for a shake n fake Good luck mate just maybe not this week Cheers

1 game can make a massive difference come the end of the season. i need to win both games, hope Neil loses both Plus make up big % on him. Ain't going to happen. But if i was only 1 game behind, there is still plenty of hope. looking back at the close games……..

Shake n bake

Would only be half a game out of the 8 if it weren't for that game Derek!! Always look back on that game in Triggs league!! Ohwell. Still a little hope.

who should i sitch pendles and sloane to, maybe neale, or even blakely as a pod as he has hit great form
already have zerret, titch, kelly, treloar, jelwood and fyfe
