BarronRd8

Howdy folks, Barron Von Crow here with our Round 7 Supercoach Scout Report. Round 7 was a weird old one, with every lower ranked team on the ladder defeating their higher placed opponents.

In the Supercoach world, we got some mixed results, with some very poor scores from rookie players like Otten, Vickers-Willis, Hanann, while the Carlton rookies gave hope to thousands of their fans, with quality performances from Sam Petrevski-Seton and Caleb Marchbank.

There’s quite a few rookies who are sitting in the high BE point at this stage of the year, so there could be some serious trade action going on. So let’s go take a look at the rookie landscape for this week.

ROUND 8 PODCAST IS HERE: JOCK, CROUCHING & HIGGO LIVE FROM CHINA!

St Kilda VS GWS

Tim Taranto

MID/FWD | SC Price: $295,700

Round 7 Stats: 12 disposals, 2 marks, 6 tackles, 1 goal, 66 SCPoints, 62 CKPoints

Matthew Kennedy

FWD | SC Price: $299,500

Round 7 Stats: 22 disposals, 2 5 marks, 5 tackles, 82 SCPoints, 90 CKPoints

Tim Taranto has continued his solid play, a score in the 60’s from just 12 disposals is a pretty good return. His BE still sits at 21, so he has a few more weeks of cash generation left in him. Matthew Kennedy has been solid with his 3 round average at 71. He’s only owned by 0.5% of teams, so not many people would be reaping the rewards from his patch of good play. With Adam Kennedy going down with an ACL injury, both players should continue to keep their places in the side for the moment.

North Melbourne VS Adelaide

Ed Vickers-Willis

DEF | SC Price: $155,800

Round 7 Stats: 12 disposals, 1 mark, 4 tackles, 4 clangers, 35 SCPoints, 39 CKPoints

Kayne Turner

FWD | SC Price: $262,400

Round 7 Stats: 18 disposals, 2 marks, 5 tackles, 6 inside 50’s, 1 goal, 86 SCPoints, 78 CKPoints

Corey Wagner

FWD | SC Price: $206,700

Round 7 Stats: 2 disposals, 1 mark, 9 SCPoints, 13 CKPoints

Andy Otten

DEF | SC Price: $376,400

Round 7 Stats: 16 disposals, 6 marks, 5 tackles, 69 SCPoints, 70 CKPoints

Curtly Hampton

DEF | SC Price: $305,500

Round 7 Stats: 14 disposals, 3 tackles, 47 SCPoints, 45 CKPoints

Jake Kelly

DEF | SC Price: $254,400

Round 7 Stats: 12 disposals, 2 marks, 40 SCPoints, 33 CKPoints

Riley Knight

FWD | SC Price: $288,900

Round 7 Stats: 8 disposals, 2 tackles, 30 SCPoints, 27 CKPoints

Not a good game for many here, with the Crows just flat out sucking, while Corey Wagner was hurt early in the first quarter. Both Andy Otten and Curtly Hampton have BE’s in the 90’s, which probably puts them in line for a price decrease this week. There are several players such as Heath Shaw who are only a short hop up for someone like Otten, so they may be priorities for most this week.

Riley Knight was a late inclusion for Wayne Milera and didn’t perform at all, so his spot could be in jeopardy this week.

Collingwood VS Carlton

Will Hoskin-Elliot

FWD | SC Price: $366,500

Round 7 Stats: 11 disposals, 5 marks, 3 tackles, 65 SCPoints, 53 CKPoints

Tim Broomhead

FWD | SC Price: $294,200

Round 7 Stats: 11 disposals, 1 mark, 2 tackles, 30 SCPoints, 35 CKPoints

Caleb Marchbank

DEF | SC Price: $356,700

Round 7 Stats: 21 disposals, 9 marks, 108 SCPoints, 84 CKPoints

Tom Williamson

DEF | SC Price: $251,700

Round 7 Stats: 11 disposals, 4 marks, 2 tackles, 48 SCPoints, 48 CKPoints

Sam Petrevski-Seton

MID | SC Price: $337,200

Round 7 Stats: 21 disposals, 4 marks, 3 tackles, 2 goals, 134 SCPoints, 93 CKPoints

Great performances were on display here by two Blues in Caleb Marchbank and Sam Petrevski-Seton. Both are potentially looking to hit the $400K mark if they have another decent game in the next week or two and both should keep for at least another fortnight and probably until the bye round if they can continue some good form.

Timothy Broomhead had 11 disposals, but 10 of them were handballs, which would be the cause for his poor score. He was a late inclusion for Daniel Wells, so he might be out of the side this week.

Will Hoskin-Elliot wasn’t able to put together another great game, but still has the 125 score in his rolling average, so his BE won’t jump back up to over his season average until next week.

Port Adelaide VS West Coast

Sam Powell-Pepper

DEF | SC Price: $285,700

Round 7 Stats: 10 disposals, 3 marks, 6 tackles, 60 SCPoints, 59 CKPoints

Dan Houston

FWD | SC Price: $288,900

Round 7 Stats: 12 disposals, 5 marks, 3 tackles, 56 SCPoints, 56 CKPoints

Kurt Mutimer

MID | SC Price: $123,900

Round 7 Stats: 10 disposals, 3 marks, 3 tackles, 1 goal, 58 SCPoints, 47 CKPoints

Nathan Vardy

RUC | SC Price: $246,200

Round 7 Stats: 6 disposals, 1 mark, 12 hitouts, 47 SCPoints, 49 CKPoints

SPP did OK to produce a score of 60 from just the 10 touches, but the dreaded China game and then bye round is coming up, something that could mean we see youngsters like SPP and Dan Houston given an extended rest. Houston has a season average of 67 and his BE is sitting at 62, so he may be getting near the stage where he’s ready to cash in.

Western Bulldogs VS Richmond

Ivan Soldo

RUC | SC Price: $123,900

Round 7 Stats: 9 disposals, 3 marks, 42 hitouts, 62 SCPoints, 75 CKPoints

Daniel Butler

FWD | SC Price: $285,000

Round 7 Stats: 13 disposals, 4 tackles, 1 goal, 57 SCPoints, 50 CKPoints

Ivan Soldo put in a quality performance in his first AFL game, getting the better of the Bulldogs in the ruck department. Toby Nankervis is back this week, so there is every chance he gets dropped, but there’s also the possibility that the Tigers drop someone like Todd Elton and leave Soldo up forward and as the backup ruckman instead of using Shaun Grigg there.

Daniel Butler has found his BE hit 52, while his 3 round average is 58, so he may be getting near his time also.

Gold Coast VS Geelong

Brad Scheer

MID | SC Price: $413,700

Round 7 Stats: 8 disposals, 1 mark, 5 tackles, 45 SCPoints, 44 CKPoints

Jarrod Witts

RUC | SC Price: $413,700

Round 7 Stats: 18 disposals, 4 tackles, 43 hitouts, 115 SCPoints, 121 CKPoints

James Parsons

FWD | SC Price: $152,300

Round 7 Stats: 9 disposals, 2 marks, 19 SCPoints, 27 CKPoints

Aaron Black

FWD | SC Price: $198,700

Round 7 Stats: 15 disposals, 5 marks, 2 goals, 69 SCPoints, 73 CKPoints

Jarrod Witts was back in the winner’s circle this week, producing a standout score of 115. James Parsons was crap and he picked a poor time to decide to be crap considering 16.1% of sides that brought him into their sides, while Aaron Black was a bit kinder to the 6.4% of sides that brought him in, knocking out a decent rookie level score.

Sydney VS Brisbane

Lewis Melican

DEF | SC Price: $175,900

Round 7 Stats: 16 disposals, 5 marks, 3 tackles, 67 SCPoints, 69 CKPoints

Oliver Florent

MID/FWD | SC Price: $200,400

Round 7 Stats: 10 disposals, 1 mark, 1 tackles, 33 SCPoints, 31 CKPoints

Will Hayward

FWD | SC Price: $200,600

Round 7 Stats: 9 disposals, 1 mark, 2 tackles, 2 goals, 55 SCPoints, 48 CKPoints

Jarrod Berry

DEF/MID | SC Price: $170,000

Round 7 Stats: 11 disposals, 1 goal, 4 tackles, 60 SCPoints, 55 CKPoints

Jake Barrett

MID | SC Price: $208,200

Round 7 Stats: 13 disposals, 1 goal, 5 tackles, 60 SCPoints, 69 CKPoints

Hugh McCluggage

MID/FWD | SC Price: $217,700

Round 7 Stats: 1.5 disposals, 5 marks, 65 SCPoints, 62 CKPoints

Both Lewis Melican and Jarrod Berry are looking like decent downgrade options this week in the event you want to trade Hampton or Otten, with both having played a series of games now, but both are still under $200K. Jake Barrett returned, but he might only be around as long as Dayne Beams is out.

Fremantle VS Essendon

Harley Balic

MID/FWD | SC Price: $215,500

Round 7 Stats: 10 disposals, 2 marks, 1 goal, 41 SCPoints, 41 CKPoints

Cam McCarthy

FWD | SC Price: $329,700

Round 7 Stats: 12 disposals, 7 marks, 2 goals, 73 SCPoints, 79 CKPoints

Aaron Francis

DEF | SC Price: $259,700

Round 7 Stats: 13 disposals, 4 marks, 3 tackles, 43 SCPoints, 56 CKPoints

David Myers

MID | SC Price: $133,700

Round 7 Stats: 13 disposals, 4 marks, 46 SCPoints, 41 CKPoints

Cam McCarthy has quietly been one of the better rookie options lately, producing a 5 round average of 75 SCPoints after a very slow start to the year. Harley Balic was a bit disappointing, but rookies will do that to you occasionally, while David Myers didn’t show a heck of a lot in his first game to get us super excited for potentially trading him in once he’s on the bubble.

Aaron Francis had 3 behinds, if he can nail those goals then that’ll go a long way towards helping him put up a quality score.

Melbourne VS Hawthorn

Mitch Hannan

FWD | SC Price: $199,700

Round 7 Stats: 9 disposals, 6 tackles, 34 SCPoints, 50 CKPoints

Jay Kennedy-Harris

FWD | SC Price: $162,400

Round 7 Stats: 13 disposals, 3 marks, 24 SCPoints, 42 CKPoints

Ryan Burton

DEF/FWD | SC Price: $376,100

Round 7 Stats: 23 disposals, 6 marks, 4 tackles, 112 SCPoints, 94 CKPoints

Blake Hardwick

FWD | SC Price: $237,600

Round 7 Stats: 18 disposals, 7 marks, 74 SCPoints, 66 CKPoints

Mitch Hannan couldn’t take advantage of his shots in front of goal, but his BE is still at 30, so he should hold for a little while longer. Ryan Burton put up his 2nd triple digit score of 2017, with his 3 round average sitting at 89 SCPoints. If he can keep up this level of scoring he’s gonna be the last guy you look at potentially upgrading if you own him.

Blake Hardwick has been very solid in his 4 games, he’s only owned by 4% of teams, but you’ve probably missed the boat if you didn’t grab him.

Thoughts community?

Hampton to McNiece
AND
Stewart to Heeney via DPP

    Saundo · 09/05/2017 at 15:51

    Is McNeice injured?

      iLoveNMFC · 09/05/2017 at 16:02

Nah, I think he was rested or managed.

      BarronVonCrow · 09/05/2017 at 16:02

He was "rested" last week, but who knows if he'll be back in the main side again soon.

    Dianna · 10/05/2017 at 18:53

How can you do the Stewart Def to Heeney Fwd trade via DPP.
    I am still learning SC

      Daniel Z · 11/05/2017 at 10:16

      Trade Stewart out.
Then on the left-hand side on the trade page, there is an "S."
Click that, and it'll switch that player back to defense (presumably from forward if you're looking at Heeney).
There is now an open forward spot, so trade Heeney in there.

(This will only work if a player has dual-position and can be switched to defense).

We can only hope some of these potentially juicy cows get a run sometime soon as the rookie cupboard is starting to look mighty bare!

    BarronVonCrow · 09/05/2017 at 16:03

We bloody need 'em! I've wasted so many trades chasing my tail on rookie picks I've barely had any time or cash to upgrade players.

    BarronVonCrow · 09/05/2017 at 16:05

My general rule is if you're playing league it's better to tank 1 round completely, rather than try and trade your way through to get an even number spread.

It depends on your cover though. If you're confident you can field 18 still with Pendles, then go for it.

ewoks8stormtroopers · 09/05/2017 at 14:54

Getting rid of Otten & Hampton, getting Adams, but with lack of quality DEF downgrade options, is there any love out there in the community for getting on Scharenberg early on the assumption that he will get a game sometime soon?

    INPieman · 09/05/2017 at 15:08

No way I'd be doing that. Enough rookie burns this year already

    PJ King · 09/05/2017 at 16:01

I'm thinking of doing the same trade for TAdams, but looking at Berry, Melican, and EVW at this stage. There is no way I'd bring in Scharenberg @$164K on the hope that he might get a game.

May the Force be with you…

      Holmes_Heroes · 09/05/2017 at 19:24

With Stewart and EVW on the bench I decided I need to turn Hampton into someone who can play on the ground so I've gone Berry too

hedski · 09/05/2017 at 14:57

Need Lukey Ryan to get a gig soon.
Cheers BVC.

    BarronVonCrow · 09/05/2017 at 16:05

We can only hope he gets a gig (and keeps his spot too!)

      SCDamien · 10/05/2017 at 17:10

Ross Lyon is a huge fan of his work, but he and Spurr are competing the same spot, which is unfortunate. He's in the frame if someone like Ethan Hughes gets injured/omitted though and considering Ross compared Hughes to Fyfe, I'd assume Hughes won't lose his place that easily.

TRIGGER HAPPY · 09/05/2017 at 14:59

3 * CAPITAL B!

Bloody Brilliant Baron.

    BarronVonCrow · 09/05/2017 at 16:05

    Cheers, Triggy!

ThatDamnRascal · 09/05/2017 at 15:03

Anyone have any news on Robbie Fox?

    INPieman · 09/05/2017 at 15:07

Back on the rookie list last time I heard

    BarronVonCrow · 09/05/2017 at 16:05

He played on the weekend, but had a fairly "meh" match with 15 odd touches.

INPieman · 09/05/2017 at 15:07

Awesome Baron. Scharenberg had quite a game. I'm sure he's coming in soon. Just not ideally priced. And I'm with Hedski….. Ross! Give us Lukey Ryan!!!

    hedski · 09/05/2017 at 15:31

I think we'll probably be waiting a few weeks at least Pie, coming back from injuries and the Ross/Toss factor.

      INPieman · 09/05/2017 at 15:44

Yeah. He's had 2 injuries this season already. Hoping he starts hitting 30+ & demands selection. He is a Gun

Rivo · 09/05/2017 at 15:21

Great work Baron. Lots to consider as always.

With great Community feedback yesterday, I have narrowed it down to 3 options. Have 21 trades and $308k. Currently premo set up as 3,7,2,3 (M.Crouch at M7).

1: Otten & Hampton to Simpson & Rance, leaves only $3k but D1-5 premo;

2: Treloar & Otten to Bont & T. Adams. Leaves $61k, adds premo to D4, correction trade on Treloar;

3: Otten & Houston to Simpson & Heeney. Leaves $5k, adds premo to D4 and F4.

Otten the consistent trade out prospect because of his price. Byes aside, which path is best?

    BarronVonCrow · 09/05/2017 at 16:06

Might have to do 2 if Treloar is out. But I probably like 3,1,2

      Rivo · 09/05/2017 at 18:53

Thanks Baron. Will keep an eye on selections. Any help is good, having a shocker so far this season. Terrible mid premo performances so far.

    Dean · 10/05/2017 at 19:48

If you have cover for Treloar – Then go option 3 that looks bloody good. At least you know Treloar wont lose you cash this week seeing he isn't playing, then trade him out next week.

James · 09/05/2017 at 15:23

Can go Houston to Black then WHE to Yeo, or Otten to Jake Lloyd?

    BarronVonCrow · 09/05/2017 at 16:08

I'd trade Otten first since he's likely to start losing cash. WHE will last another week.

      Kyle · 10/05/2017 at 00:42

Need to also take into consideration the players being brought in, BVC. Yeo will rise more in price than otten will fall, meaning it will cost you extra cash next week. Some food for thought

Pom · 09/05/2017 at 15:28

Great work BVC. Here's to hoping at least 1 rookie for each line comes up soon!
Slim pickings has led The Goonies going Hampton to Berry (Mcneice if named). And pending injury / spudability, Treloar to Yeo.
With the plan being to move Yeo to fwd line when possible.
Thoughts?

    BarronVonCrow · 09/05/2017 at 16:08

I went Hampton to Berry too. Not a thrilling move, but might be the best of a bad situation.

      Pom · 10/05/2017 at 11:04

I dream of making a "Thrilling" move! Maybe when the rookies start looking like cash cows and not 10 cent potatoes.

The Ranger · 09/05/2017 at 15:40

Thanks Barron, top work as usual.

    BarronVonCrow · 09/05/2017 at 16:08

    Thanks Ranger.

Tommo09 · 09/05/2017 at 15:42

Hampton/Newman and Houston to Heeney and Pendles

Thoughts?

Will leave me about 150-200k left

Next week, Rocky in

    LoganJosh7 · 09/05/2017 at 15:49

    hampton over newman easily.

rocky next week is the dream thats for sure!!

      Tommo09 · 10/05/2017 at 16:01

Will only trade Newman if he or Tom Stewart or Hibberd don't get named as I will need one of them to play on field

    BarronVonCrow · 09/05/2017 at 16:08

    I like it.

LoganJosh7 · 09/05/2017 at 16:13

For me its now come down to

Option 1: Get Dusty this week, which means i have an extra trade next week to get rocky and one of scheer/myers.

option 2: Save a trade and get dusty next and run the risk of missing out on a good rookie bubble…

option 3: get a second rookie instead of dusty (say melican) and go big next week with 800k in the bank.

Mark · 09/05/2017 at 16:46

Hey guys is it worth trading otten to berry/Melican and upgrading treloar to Bont. This will probably be my last chance to get Bont and treloar is in doubt. Worth it or hold?

    Jack · 09/05/2017 at 17:01

Contemplating the same thing mate.. Treloar has been so frustrating. Averaging 30 a game and 95 points. Seems Champion Data have tightened the screws on a few key point scoring areas. Just wish they would give us a heads up when such changes are going to be made to the scoring system..

VARC · 09/05/2017 at 16:58

Thoughts on the below for two week trading plan:

1. Hampton to Berry/Melican and Beams to Rocky

2. JOM to Myers and either Butler or SPP to fwd/mid at about 510k

Means that I'd have to play Berry/Melican on-field this week (assuming Stewart and Newman not named) and have to hold JOM for another week – if he plays he starts, if not it's Barrett on-field.

Thoughts community, is there a better option out there? I have Bont and Pendles in the mids, along with Danger, Fyfe and Hannebery. Really like Rockliff's point scoring ability, even if at 590k

TRIGGER HAPPY · 09/05/2017 at 17:37

With swallow and others missing this weekend Brodie must move to front of the queue.
Although dearish it would be perfect timing for the byes.
On the bubble rd 11 – bring him in for a fat cow and covers each of the bye rounds.

With little else on offer I will be bringing him in,

Changed tact a bit.
Was going to bring in Rocky/pendles next week but this leave a spud fwd rookie on the ground and more importantly on the ground right up to about Rd 12-13.
So gonna bring in another premo fwd next week so I have 6 reliable fwds.
I think a myers/barratt/brodie at M7-M8 is going to score better than the rabble fwds. – parsons/eddy/hannan etc

If all goes to plan (big if) I will have 2 rookies on the ground to upgrade to premos Rd 13.
Scharenberg in defence and myers/brodie in the middle.
one down one up and I should be able to afford rocky/pendles /Sloane – one of these guys around $550-$600k.

So maybe before brining in a gun premo mid have a look at your other lines to make sure you are not robbing Peter to pay Paul.

might just pay to see what best works for you.

Must say it is nice to have the cash to splash. almost makes me forget about last week 🙂

BlueBoy · 09/05/2017 at 17:41

After looking at breakevens I'm not sure whether to go

Treloar to Yeo
Hampton to Z Jones

or

Teloar to Yeo
Otten to Bont (Adams from mid to def)

Treloar is playing injured and I feel like the Bont will go up by less than Jones (assuming they hit anywhere near their averages). Then I can get the Bont in next week.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Cheers guys.

    Mich · 09/05/2017 at 18:32

Has it been confirmed that treloar is playing inhured or just heresay?

      Top Gun · 09/05/2017 at 19:11

Pies are keeping his "mystery" injury a secret atm

    JohndJames · 09/05/2017 at 22:26

I don't think you can go wrong with either of those trades, they both work.I would prefer Bont in my team, but if you are going to get them both, then go with the Jones option first since he is due to go up the most.

Sellars1220 · 09/05/2017 at 18:05

Trading out SPP and Zac fisher this week

Leaves me with 500k

Who to bring in?

    lok · 09/05/2017 at 18:42

Depends on your team and structure. The general trade ideas this week are Bont, Macrae, Adams, Simpson, Shaw, Zerrett and McNeice.

      Sellars1220 · 09/05/2017 at 18:55

DEF: Docherty, Laird, Hurley, McGrath, Newman, EVW ( Stewart, Scharenburg )
MID : Danger, Ablett, Bont, Rockcliff, Pendles, Fyfe, SPP, Fisher ( Bolton, Jarman, Bayok )
      RUC : Grundy, Sandilands ( Cameron )
FWD : Dahl, JJK, Nank, Ryder, Steele, Hanan ( Eddy, Smith )

        Top Gun · 09/05/2017 at 19:16

You have four non playing rookies atm with SPP only on a breakeven of 11. Would you not trade a back instead?

bob the builder · 09/05/2017 at 20:19

Upgrade Otten and Hold Hampton or
downgrade Hampton and hold Otten??

    hedski · 09/05/2017 at 20:41

If your choosing I'd hold Otten.
I plan to paint the fence with them both pending team selections Bob.

SF4 · 09/05/2017 at 21:21

Dusty or Cripps?

    Dee · 11/05/2017 at 00:42

    Dusty

Dee · 11/05/2017 at 00:43

Good Work Barron….

JustaMug · 11/05/2017 at 21:09

What's happened to Ainsworth (Bris)?
Sorry if I missed something but can't see him on an injury list.

Jocka · 11/05/2017 at 22:33

Heeney for Florent or Hannan? Of course if Florent isn't in final 22 he will be traded.
