Jock’s Supercoach 2017 Notebook. Week 1.
Those of us serious about a crack at Supercoach 2017 domination start their preseason this week.
How good’s the smell of a fresh Supercoach research notebook? A clean slate. New life. New opportunity. A fresh start. I’ve filled a couple of pages already and I’ll be updating you on my progress as the weeks go by here on a Wednesday.
Remember friends, the podcast is rolling on throughout the off season. We started to “unpack” some of the trade rumours floating around the joint this week, and I’ve been able to let you in on some disturbing untold developments at the Brisbane Lions.
Likely 2017 position: MID | Estimated 2017 price: $576,000 | My assessment: Consider
Get off the gear All Australian selection panel. You mad pricks.
Patrick Cripps outperformed my expectations this season by that much it’s not funny. Finished the season with the most clearances in a season since Brett Rattan in 1999. Fair effort for a 21 year old carrying the load in the guts in an average midfield.
I was discussing this with a group of kids at a clinic down at Hastings just yesterday. You want to look for a nice, natural and consistent progression towards fantasy elitehood with your premium bulls.
I like the look of the Cripps progression. Average of 39 in a handful of games in his first season. 96 last year and showing signs. 107 this year. Like it. Like it a lot.
What we need to ask ourselves when considering him next year is this: can he go to the next level? The back end of his season suggests he can. He backed out an average of 132 in his last 6 games.
It will be a matter of weighing Cripps up against the likes of Dangerfield, Lachie Neale, The Bont, Pendlebury, Hanno, Treloar. Will be a bloody interesting premium midfield selection discussion over the preseason.
Finished up 4474 overall in #Supercoach & still had 1 trade left! Never going with the mid price def again! Bont & Cripps are locks in 2017

Likely position: MID | Estimated 2017 price: $??? | My assessment: Consider
It was the last round of the season. It was the kid’s second game of AFL footy. 125 Supercoach points later the name Brayden Fiorini was scrawled into the old 2017 Supercoach research notebook.
Mark my words. This performance was no flash in the pan. Rocket knows what he has on his hands here. He locked him in with a contract extension in June despite the kid having not played a senior game and having a stuffed knee.
Was plucked in the first round of the 2015 draft as a slick outside midfielder. Rocket and I have added some testicle to his game and he’s now able to do mix it with the big bastards on the inside.
And do you reckon Gold Coast might be a bit thin in the midfield in 2017? Prestia won’t be there. Jaeger’s pissing off. Swallow wants out. It’s all clicking into place for Braydo next year.
It’s all about starting price. Thanks to Pieman for this one – it looks as if he might start with an elevated pricetag despite just the two games.
Brayden Fiorini averaged 109.5 DT in his debut year (of two games). Just pipped by Michael Barlow’s 109.8 (from 13) in 2010. #AFLSunsPower

Likely position: MID | Estimated 2017 price: $598,000 | My assessment: Upgrade target
There’s been talk that he could pick up some forward DPP eligibility. If that’s the case I’d put some serious thought into starting him next year. I’m not sure that will happen though folks, he’s spent a hell of a lot of game time in the guts especially in the back half of the season
The thing with Luke, and I’ve been at him about this for some time, is that he WILL have a flat run during the season. For that reason and at this price I’d recommend we lay off him early doors and look for that drop in price. It will come. Don’t worry about that. At this stage he’ll be an early to mid season upgrade target for JR Brumby FC.
