Goodbye, farewell and amen.
That’s what we’ll be saying to a bunch of players over the coming weeks as we look to boost our sides to full premo status through the bye rounds.
We’ve been with some of these rookies for 7 weeks now and some of them have served us well, but it’s now time to give some of them a Donald Trump-esque “You’re fired” and move them on from their current positions.
It’s a cutthroat business this fantasy football caper, but this won’t be the end for these kids. Guys like Callum Mills, Clayton Oiver, Darcy Parish and Marcus Adams, these guys may be gone from our sides soon this year, but I guarantee you that we will be picking them again in the future.
Callum MillsSC Price: $335,900 | AF Price: $314,000 | CoachKings Price: $6,600 Featured CoachKings Contest: Saturday, Richmond VS Sydney Round 7 Stats: 16 disposals, 4 marks, 2 inside 50’s, 36 SCPoints, 46 AFPoints, 33 CKPoints
Just the $200 price rise for Mills and now with a projected BE of 94, this may be the week we look to upgrade/downgrade Mills. He had the 16 disposals, which was about his season average, but didn’t do a lot with it and also had 5 clangers. Might be a bit iffy in CoachKings at his current price.
Clayton OliverSC Price: $294,900 | AF Price: $309,000 | CoachKings Price: $5,800 Featured CoachKings Contest: Sunday, Melbourne VS Western Bulldogs Round 7 Stats: 23 disposals, 3 marks, 6 tackles, 2 inside 50’s, 4 clearances, 83 SCPoints, 77 AFPoints, 80 CKPoints
Oliver had a couple of weeks off and it seems to have not had any real impact on him. He was quiet in the Round 4 game against Collingwood, so it looks like the break was good for him. His BE is 51, so if you held on to him, it looks like he still has several more weeks left. He’s a big ‘ol padlock for CoachKings on Sunday, capable of a big score and still at a decent price.
Christian PetraccaSC Price: $123,900 | AF Price: $262,000 | CoachKings Price: $4,500 Featured CoachKings Contest: Sunday, Melbourne VS Western Bulldogs Round 7 Stats: 24 disposals, 2 marks, 4 tackles, 4 inside 50’s, 2 goals 86 SCPoints, 86 AFPoints, 127 CKPoints
On the bubble this week and has a BE of -75, easy guess says he’ll be the most traded in player this week and makes an absolutely perfect downgrade option if you’re looking to move out Callum Mills. Nice timing for us in fantasy football! Get him in in CoachKings as well, pair him up with Clayton Oliver and you’ll save yourself big dollars to pick other high price players.
Josh SmithSC Price: $171,500 | AF Price: $245,000 | CoachKings Price: $5,100 Round 7 Stats: 18 disposals, 4 marks, 1 tackle, 49 SCPoints, 61 AFPoints, 55CKPoints
Not a single contested possession recorded for Smith, which would explain his slightly lower SC score. He was probably heavily started last week after scoring 96 the week before, so a score of 49 would be a bit disappointing. Still, we most likely brought him in for cash generation, so he just rose by 69K and has another 51K projected with a BE of -43 on the cards this week.
Darcy ParishSC Price: $331,100 | AF Price: $359,000 | CoachKings Price: $5,100 Round 7 Stats: N/A
Had his workload managed by the Bombers, and didn’t play any football last week. Probably a good thing for him long term, but his BE is currently 78, so he might be coming near the end of his time for us.
Connor MenadueFeatured CoachKings Contest: Saturday, Richmond VS Sydney SC Price: $225,300 | AF Price: $244,000 | CoachKings Price: $3,800 Round 7 Stats: 11 disposals, 2 marks, 3 tackles, 54 SCPoints, 47 AFPoints, 52 CKPoints
Looked like he was going to put up a good score with 41 first half Supercoach Points, but ended the game on just 54 SCPoints. Still, that was good enough to earn him a $4.8K price rise and now has an achievable BE of 28. That puts him on the bottom of the trade priority list, but judging from his current scoring output, you’re only likely to cost yourself 10-15K if you trade him out now.
He’s dirt cheap in CoachKings, but that’s for a reason, but if you really need to save some dollars he’s an option. Worst case scenario, pick him at the start and leave a tiny bit of cash left. If he stinks up the joint you can rotate him out for another player in the $4,500 range.
Sam KerridgeSC Price: $371,500 | AF Price: $425,000 | CoachKings Price: $6,100 Round 7 Stats: 24 disposals, 3 marks, 5 tackles, 3 clearances, 1 goal, 82 SCPoints, 89 AFPoints, 68 CKPoints Featured CoachKings Contest: Sunday, Carlton VS Port Adelaide (SA Venues ONLY)
4 clangers for Kerridge, which hit his scores a bit, but still a solid effort overall, but we’re hitting the tricky point of the year now with the Kedge. His BE is 74, which is achievable, but he’s also scored lower than that on 2 occasions this year, and scores of 86, 78 and 82 would mean he wouldn’t earn much cash either if he scored at that level this week. If you didn’t have any other issues to deal with, I’d consider downgrading him, but it’s not a definite need this week.
Ben KennedySC Price: $312,000 | AF Price: $333,000 | CoachKings Price: $5,900 Featured CoachKings Contest: Sunday, Melbourne VS Western Bulldogs Round 7 Stats: 16 disposals, 2 marks, 9 tackles, 2 goals, 89 SCPoints, 93 AFPoints, 119 CKPoints
Probably typical that he scored his 3rd highest score of the year after a lot of people traded him out, but he’s still owned by 42.1% of teams, so there’s plenty still with him. His BE is now 27, which gives him a few more weeks to earn some cash, as long as he doesn’t have another dud game. He scored very well in CoachKings last week, so he is an option to consider this week, especially at a sub $6,000 price.
Tom PapleySC Price: $281,000 | AF Price: $304,000 | CoachKings Price: $5,700 Featured CoachKings Contest: Saturday, Richmond VS Sydney Round 7 Stats: 14 disposals, 3 marks, 7 tackles, 2 goals, 85 SCPoints, 89 AFPoints, 100 CKPoints
Another good game from Papley, who has now had 3 solid weeks in a row. He earned another 36K last week and has a BE of 18 for this week, so he’s likely to pop over the 300K mark. He’ll most likely hold for another fortnight. Worth a buy in CoachKings this week, especially against a poorer side in Richmond.
Mitch McGovernSC Price: $265,500 | AF Price: $266,000 | CoachKings Price: $6,300 Featured CoachKings Contest: Friday, Adelaide VS Geelong Round 7 Stats: 8 disposals, 3 marks, 2 tackles, 45 SCPoints, 39 AFPoints, 67 CKPoints
With Josh Jenkins dominating the goals last week, there wasn’t much left for McGovern, who missed an easy shot in front of goal. His BE is 67 this week, a score he’s beaten just twice this year. Consider moving him on this week. He’ll be an OK pick in CoachKings, but hasn’t shown the ability to pump out a big score yet, so I’d likely avoid at this price point.
Lincoln McCarthySC Price: $269,300 | AF Price: $238,000 | CoachKings Price: $5,400 Round 7 Stats: 3 disposals, 1 tackles, 1 behind, 15 SCPoints, 14 AFPoints, 13 CKPoints
Just 15 SCPoints from McCarthy, who only played about 15 minutes of footy after suffering an ankle injury in the first quarter of the Cats game against West Coast. That has absolutely blown his BE up and pushed it out to 101. His injury doesn’t look serious, but given his injury history I’d suggest the Cats will rest him for at least next week, though they have said he’ll be a game time decision. If that’s the case you can wait one more week before moving him out, but scores of 44 and 15 over the last fortnight mean it’s time to move him on.
Matthew DeaSC Price: $289,200 | AF Price: $307,000 | CoachKings Price: $5,200 Round 7 Stats: 18 disposals, 9 marks, 3 tackles, 79 SCPoints, 85 AFPoints, 75 CKPoints
A decent game from Dea, he missed his BE, but dropped just 7.7K, money he should be able to regain this week with a BE of 54. His BE next week is projected to be 33 off of a score of 62 this week, so he might hold for another week or so.
Marcus AdamsSC Price: $349,700 | AF Price: $324,000 | CoachKings Price: $8,400 Featured CoachKings Contest: Sunday, Melbourne VS Western Bulldogs Round 7 Stats: 20 disposals, 3 marks, 1 tackle, 77 SCPoints, 59 AFPoints, 105 CKPoints
Adams just managed to hit his BE and gained 7.3K for the week and has another reachable BE of 68 this week. Latest word is he fractured his finger against the Crows and will miss this week’s game against Melbourne. His time appears to be near, but with him missing a week with injury we don’t need to worry about him losing cash for the moment.
Darcy Byrne-JonesSC Price: $322,200 | AF Price: $281,000 | CoachKings Price: $6,600 Featured CoachKings Contest: Sunday, Carlton VS Port Adelaide (SA Venues ONLY) Round 7 Stats: 22 disposals, 3 marks, 2 tackles, 100 SCPoints, 68 AFPoints, 90 CKPoints
A great game from Byrne-Jones, who had 10 contested possessions in his 22 and also had 422 metres gained for the day. He has now gained nearly 200K and has a BE of 21, which you’d expect him to smash. He’s been a great pickup for a lot of us and if he continues this pace he could be in our sides for a long time.
Anthony McDonald-TipungwutiSC Price: $318,400 | AF Price: $302,000 | CoachKings Price: $6,000 Round 7 Stats: 18 disposals, 7 marks, 2 tackles, 86 SCPoints, 80 AFPoints, 83 CKPoints
Another Bomber who was on the chopping block who may have bought himself another week or two, Walla managed a 8.9K price rise and now has a BE of 50 for this week. The Bombers have North Melbourne this week, which will be a tough game for them, but you’d hope he could score a 50 at a minimum. He should keep for a little bit longer.
Mason CoxSC Price: $159,900 | AF Price: $192,000 | CoachKings Price: $4,500 Round 7 Stats: 7 disposals, 1 mark, 10 hitouts, 24 SCPoints, 38 AFPoints, 24 CKPoints
Not much going for Cox last week, who was unable to hit kick a goal for the first time this year. That poor score has put his BE at 4, so if you traded him in, don’t worry. He’ll still earn plenty of cash from here.
THE BEST OF THE REST…
Mitch Brown – Brown’s second good game in a row with a score of 96. He’s priced at $279K and has pushed back into negative BE territory at -18. Should push into the $350K range at this rate.
Peter Wright – Just the score of 47 in his third game. Scored 142 SCPoints in his first game and has managed just 91 in his next two.
Daniel Currie – Has had solid hitout numbers, but managed to get a bit more involved around the ground this week with 14 disposals. Has risen to 214.9K, so not much of a downgrade option, but could be an injury replacement if the worst happened to one of your rucks.
George Hewett – Had a score of 57 last week, but still a low BE of 21 this week. Keep him on your bench for a bit longer.
Danny MacPherson – A solid debut for MacPherson, he only had 10 disposals, but worked hard to also get 9 tackles and scored 77 SCPoints. Just his first game, so give him another week to evaluate in Supercoach.
Mason Redman – Just 45 SCPoints for Redman. Probably better options out there.
Ben Crocker – Played his first game and had just the 8 disposals. Could be given a taste, but not sure if he has enough long term potential to make a decent amount of cash.
Liam Sumner – Could give him props for being consistent, I guess, even if it is just consistently shit in fantasy football terms. He’s playing his role for the Blues though, it’s just not one that’s beneficial for Supercoach or AFL Fantasy.
Josh Wagner – Bounced back with a score of 96 SCPoints after a poor showing the week before. If you have him then you’d be happy with what he’s providing. BE is just 18.
Nakia Cockatoo – Dealt with a calf injury last week, but still expected to play on Friday night.
Michael Hartley – 62 SCPoints on the weekend and has a BE of 16, so still plenty of cash left in him.
Ciaran Byrne – Usual score in the 60’s for Byrne, who has been solid, though is currently lacking the ability of Byrne-Jones to pump out a big score.
Jason Castagna – On the bubble, but hasn’t scored that well in his two games. I’d probably avoid, he might be another Menadue who doesn’t score well enough to play, or generate any cash.
Ben Keays – Another rookie on the bubble and will likely be heavily traded in. Early BE of -53. Kicking 0.4 last week was a disappointment, but he’s shown the ability to stick a tackle, averaging 7 for the year.
Connor Blakely – Averaging just 50 SCPoints in his two games and has a slightly inflated starting price of 159K. Would rather go for Keays instead.
Jayden Short – Richmond are throwing around lineups a lot, so I’m not sure how long Short will be in the side. He was out for a month and then scored a 67 on return. Could still be a buy at $159K, but JS might be iffy.
Kaiden Brand – 65 SCPoints for his first game, which isn’t the worst. We have another week to watch him, if he even plays this week.
AROUND THE GROUNDS…
Eli Templeton – Has played 2 games for the Saints, so he’s right on the bubble, but had a big game for the Zebras on Saturday with 36 disposals, 15 marks, 5 tackles and kicked 1.1
Wayne Milera – Milera didn’t play SANFL on Sunday due to travelling to Melbourne as the emergency on Saturday. With Mackay out there is a chance he’s brought back this week if the Crows look to add some speed to the side.
Tom Lee – Back in the VFL and doing OK with 20 disposals, 12 marks and 3 tackles.
Tom Curren – Curren had 22 disposals, with 14 of them being handballs, 4 marks and 4 tackles in Sandringham’s big 114 to 47 win over the Collingwood VFL side.
Josh Dunkley – Just 19 disposals, 7 tackles and 5 tackles for Dunkley in Footscrays massive 105 point win over North Ballarat in the VFL.
Sam Weirderman – The #9 pick from this years draft, he kicked 4 goals in the Casey Scorpions demolishion job over the Northern Blues. The Blues team as a whole kicked 2.6, so Weiderman outscored an entire team by himself. He has kicked 13 goals over his 4 VFL matches.
Dougal Howard – Was originally named in the Power side, but dropped later, he had 14 disposals, 7 marks, 9 hitouts and kkicked 2.2 in the Magpies 27 point win over West Adelaide in the SANFL.
Sam Grimley – Back to the VFL for Grimley, who kicked 2 goals and had 8 disposals and 5 marks in the Bombers VFL win over Geelong.
Ryan Davis – Responded to his AFL axing in a big way, gathering 38 disposals, 9 marks, 3 tackles and kicked 1.1 in the Gold Coast reservers 65 point loss to Sydney in the NEAFL.
Darcy Tucker – He had 21 disposals, 2 marks, 4 tackles and 2 rebound 50’s in the Peel Thunder’s 17 point loss to West Perth.
Adam Marcon – On the Tigers rookie list, but mature ager at 23. He led the Tigers in the VFL with 29 disposals, 7 marks, 6 tackles and 4 inside 50’s in the Tigers 43 point loss to Port Melbourne.
Liam McBean – Only the 1 goal and 10 disposals for McBean on the weekend
Mabor Chol – Chol had just the 7 disposals, to go along with 2 marks, 5 tackles and 8 hitouts.
Harrison Wigg – 2nd round draft pick from last year who has a booming left boot. He led the way for the SANFL Crows on Sunday with 25 disposals, 4 marks and 4 tackles.
Hugh Greenwood – A bit wasteful in front of goals kicking 2.4, but also had 18 disposals and 6 marks. Gets better every week as he adjusts to football from basketball.
Jack Trengove – Continues to get it done in the VFL, with another 30 possession game, along with 10 tackles.
Tom Doedee – Still a bit raw, but held his own in an undersized Crows defence on the weekend and had 16 disposals, 4 marks and 2 tackles.
Sam Collins – 15 disposals, 8 marks and a goal for Sam Collins in the WAFL. You’d think he might be given a chance at some point with the Dockeres continuing to lose games.
Anthony Moribito – Continues to plug along, but prospects looking grimmer by the week after suffering a hamstring injury on the weekend. He had 19 disposals, 2 marks and 3 rebound 50’s for the Peel Thunder.
Rhys Mathieson – Brisbane had a bye in the NEAFL this week.
Jacob Hopper, Jake Barrett, Harrison Himmelberg – UWS Giants also had the bye in the NEAFL this weekend, so no footy action for the Giant trio.
