Supercoach 2016 midpriced forwardsG’day community Lekdog here,

This weeks cheat sheet is here for your pleasure. I’ll stress that outside of injury or really, really poor form there actually is no pressure to trade this week.

If you are set on trading we have a few downgrade options in Byrne, Wagner, Byrne-Jones and Cockatoo and as for upgrades just make sure they fit into your bye structures.

Some midfield downgrade options would be nice! All bloody defenders, Thoughts on Sumner Lek? Any JS

    Banksie700 · 20/04/2016 at 13:07

just hold off for now, freeman, mathieson, gore and even petracca are about ot make their debuts and will score pretty well

      I N Pieman · 20/04/2016 at 13:16

Not so sure about that. Already have petrecca (been a handy loophole) freeman will ping a hammy getting off the bus, gore probably needs some injuries & matho will play in the neafl for a few weeks at least. Rupert wills may get a crack this week. Have a look at him

      Jimmy · 21/04/2016 at 16:44

      Ben Keays surely

    Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 13:30

One game with a 45? Blaine Boekhorst back from a hammy in a week. Avoid.

There might be some midfield downgrade options soon but you'd want to wait for them on the bubble so probably looking at 3-6 weeks on one.

    LEKD0G · 20/04/2016 at 14:19

I think they intend to play him but I'm not holding my breath, avoid for safety

    breakevens · 20/04/2016 at 15:45

Sumner is out for the year

      BlakeyP · 20/04/2016 at 16:09

      What are you talking about?

Steeeve · 20/04/2016 at 13:05

Dropping Papley for DBJ. Any point holding Hewett?

    I N Pieman · 20/04/2016 at 13:20

I'd hang onto him for a bit. Had a great game in the NEAFL last weekend. Put his hand up for a reprieve. Also nothing really to go to.

    Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 13:24

If he's not named this week I think hewett is going to struggle to get in with McVeigh back. Also Gary Rohan only one week away so that door will probably close even further.

      Rooster · 20/04/2016 at 13:56

Not so sure Rohan is a walk up start in Syd best 22. He will definitely have to earn a spot via the NEAFL. Just a "good ordinary" player at Best is Rohan.

        Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 15:22

I know what you mean but pretty easy to dump an under performing 20 year old and play a guy who has more experience.

    ThatDamnRascal · 20/04/2016 at 15:41

Pretty sure Papley was upgraded for Rohan being on the LTI

    Adam · 21/04/2016 at 08:32

Hold Hewett this week your trades are precious,
Hold Papley if you think he can break 65,

Paul · 20/04/2016 at 13:08

I think I'm going to take a punt this week and trade out Johannisen and Papley for Byrne and Byrne-Jones. Take the money and upgrade Hartley to a premo and a midfield rookie to a keeper next week. Will be a slight hit to the team this week, but it's another week to of "form" to make sure I get the right Premo's in.

    Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 13:22

Like this strategy with a lack of clear downgrade options in other positions upcoming.

    I N Pieman · 20/04/2016 at 13:23

Big Ball. Must say I'm a fan. Make sure your upgrade selections as Lek pointed out above, suit your bye plans.

    Brook · 20/04/2016 at 13:31

my plan too … other option is to use part cash to upgrade JJ. But with a few rookies misfiring, we will need to bring in some fresh cash cows and there are 2 good options this week. For my trading plans, I need at least 5 more between R5-9 so getting two now makes good sense, despite the look ys hit this week. Great point about another week of form too … if Docherty tons up v freo he certainly goes up in my estimation (worth the $10-15k price rise)

    Anthony · 20/04/2016 at 14:14

I'm doing exactly the same double trade this week. Leaves me with $565k to mop up a couple fallen premiums in the next two-three rounds

    LEKD0G · 20/04/2016 at 14:19

    #ByrneBrothers

    SCaddict · 20/04/2016 at 17:39

    Byrne baby Byrne!!!

Actually I'll probably be doing the same thing myself.

    Jimi · 20/04/2016 at 18:01

Same, doesn't look like any significant bubble rookies will emerge for rd 6, so double downgrade for rd 5, pocket 500 large, then double upgrade for round 6.

    Pete · 20/04/2016 at 21:39

Great moves and I think the Pap Smear must GO to Byrne-Jones. Keeping the smear in the underpants will only cause a dilemma and allot more washing of clothes. WELCOME

Bruiser maaate · 20/04/2016 at 13:10

Not sure what to do with the Stef Martin situation. Want to hold him but have grimley as 3rd ruck. Have $224k in bank and am likely to trade papley out and swing AMT forward bringing in byrne-jones or wagner so will have make hewett into Tippett? Hope martin plays but i very much doubt it.

    I N Pieman · 20/04/2016 at 13:27

Munch the Donut Bruiser. Not worth trading a Ruck for 1 week. Looked excellent prior to being violated. Next time Steven May is in town just give a clip on the back of the head with a crowbar to make up for it.

      Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 13:32

lol nice. 5 weeks for May! bet the coach has already hit him with a crowbar.

      Bruiser maaate · 21/04/2016 at 11:59

Yeah not happy with May at all. Got me with rockliff last year. Cheers pal

    Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 13:27

Not sure if using a trade on tippet is wise, I'd probably just cop the donut on Martin, but then again I'm going for league wins not overall rank so my objectives are different.

    LEKD0G · 20/04/2016 at 14:20

Hold Marton, take the 0 or pick up Nankervis if totally desperate

      Rob · 21/04/2016 at 14:14

Rory Lobb F6/R3 swing man. Or will J. Cameron reduce his scores?

        Southern S · 21/04/2016 at 14:42

Geez he gets some poor scores though.

Matt · 20/04/2016 at 13:13

lol Bach a bit stiff to cop the orange

    Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 13:21

    Agreed.

    LEKD0G · 20/04/2016 at 14:21

Agreed but I just read the tweets and look at the trade outs haha

You'd be mad to trade him

Alex · 20/04/2016 at 13:23

Barlow to DBJ
And
Gresham to Ward

Thoughts community?

    Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 13:32

Hold Barlow, has appeared to stop bleeding, Be of 88 and no Mundy again this week.

    I N Pieman · 20/04/2016 at 13:34

That's not how I'd go about getting Ward

    Jonathan Camac · 20/04/2016 at 14:10

I actually don't mind the trade, personally. But tis hard to justify the Barlow trade now. Go with your gut.

murray · 20/04/2016 at 13:23

what to do with S Gray?? I can trade him to someone like Merrett or Franklin or even Zorko in the Forward line, or get Sloane or JPK in the mids. What would you do and why? what is the better option.(I would be doing the Papley to Byrne-jones trade to facilitate this)

    I N Pieman · 20/04/2016 at 13:32

Get rid of him. Sloane & JKP nice POD's. Stack the mids. Best scorers

      Minge E Lee · 20/04/2016 at 23:04

spot on..listen to higgo..i went papsmear to dbj and s gray to ward, via dpp wells…stack the mids with keepers

    Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 13:36

I like all the options you've presented there, just gotta go with your gut on one.

I feel like Sloane and JPK are sharing midfield time with a lot of other midfielders that get the ball a lot, but they are both proven scorers.

Zorko proven, Buddy proven and both are in great form.

Merrett having a breakout year with an important role in the new look dons. Can the 20 year old keep it up? I say yes but it's risky and he's not cheap.

TommyD21 · 20/04/2016 at 13:54

Rookie question boys

I want to get DBJ into my team for Papsmear

I have tippa in my FWD and Adams in my Def as DPP

Can wrap my head around how to do the DPP trade, can someone help?

    BigHaydos · 20/04/2016 at 14:06

when you select papley for trade, but before you pick your "trade in choice", it will give you the option to sub brown into the forward line and then you will notice once youve done that, your "trade in choice" will only be defenders as options

      TommyD21 · 20/04/2016 at 14:16

Ah legend worked it out now cheers

Jonathan Camac · 20/04/2016 at 13:55

Instead of picking Laird in place of Johannisen, is Suckling a good pick community? Saves me an extra $100k, just not sure if he'll be consistent in scoring. Thoughts community?

    Boltons Blues · 20/04/2016 at 14:05

with bob murphy and now JJ down for the year and atleast 6 weeks and more respectively, sucking should be that rebound defender they need

    I N Pieman · 20/04/2016 at 14:19

The suckling pig could be a good grab. Laird's bye is a pain. I plan to grab him straight after that

    One Touch Wonder · 20/04/2016 at 15:26

Forget about Laird and Suckling…….The Bont is only $27k more expensive than JJ.

      Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 15:44

Is the bont going to be a mid keeper though? No

        BlakeyP · 20/04/2016 at 16:04

Agree Southern here the Bont is no relevant in this situation because he is not top 10 on the line that he is availible. I like laird over suckling. But suckling is at a nice price

          Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 19:52

Who knows they might've been trolling with the bont comment………………..

    Neverweaken · 20/04/2016 at 19:14

Had suckling from the start. Hadn't failed but hadn't fired up. Was about to trade when Murphy went down. So I kept him and was rewarded with the 120 odd. Expecting 100s from him from now on

    Dean · 20/04/2016 at 21:50

The defence this year is more volatile then any other year. In the past years Shaw was our saving grace however this year rookies are scoring better then our premo's. I think saving the $100k on Suckling is a huge plus in defence because any number of players can end up top 6 defenders this year including maybe a rookie or two.

    Never say never.

    Mick · 21/04/2016 at 02:25

Shoosh don't tell everyone. Had him from the start and will serve me well as a swing man from D6 to F6.

      Jonathan Camac · 21/04/2016 at 09:47

Thanks for the input guys! Was slightly leaning towards Suckling before this chat, but now it is a definite 😉

Gem · 20/04/2016 at 14:54

Seedsman?

    Rooster · 20/04/2016 at 15:05

Seedsman is a goat!! Borderline best 22

    Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 15:23

    No not the seed.

Knackerbags · 20/04/2016 at 15:08

I have $41,500 and Papley. Any advice on who to pick up for around $265,000. Comments and help always appreciated from the good Community.

    derek · 20/04/2016 at 15:18

    Zac Dawson

He started the year with "Fyfe-like" output – round 1. (yes they both scored 61)

    Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 15:23

    Jarryd Lyons…….maybe.

    breakevens · 20/04/2016 at 15:44

    Downgrad Papsmear to Byrne-Jones

    Northernsoul74 · 20/04/2016 at 16:23

No one. Hold and build your warchest up to someone worthwhile.

    Adam · 21/04/2016 at 06:39

DPP TRade to Byrne Jones to build up warchest and make more money.
    Lyons has no proven js
    Everyone else too expensive

    SC God · 21/04/2016 at 11:20

    K.Langford is a good option

Mike · 20/04/2016 at 15:13

If youve got Tippa and Adams down back then trade Paps, move Adams/Tippa fwd and bring in the cheap defender

    Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 15:25

    This is the best plan.

breakevens · 20/04/2016 at 15:44

Community Dayne Beams could return in round 6

BiggySc · 20/04/2016 at 15:54

Had an absolute shocker this week and with this being my first year of supercoach, I really have no clue what to do with my team now. Any suggestions would be appreciated! 🙂

Defenders:
Johannisen, J, Laird R, Adams M,
Gibson J, Weitering J, Dea M (Brown M, Ruggles T)

Midfielders:
Dangerfield P, Parker L, Fyfe N, Gray R, Liberatore T,
Priddis M, Mills C, Young A (Davis R, Hewett G, Dunkley J)

Rucks:
Gawn M, Naitanui N (Grimley S)

Forwards:
Hall A, Wells D, Kerridge S, Greene T,
Kennedy B, Barlow M (Menadue C, McDonald-Tigungwut)

$173, 500 Left over

    Wayno76 · 20/04/2016 at 19:33

your team looks good trade JJ and wait to see the team line ups

    MaccasMarvels · 20/04/2016 at 20:32

    Hey biggy,

    1. Trade Johannisen to a defender who you think will finish in the top 10 at year end, OR trade Johann to a rookie defender who has played two games, of which there are a few, and pocket plenty of $$$ for your first/next upgrade.

    That's it i reckon.

Tooserious has a stats page i find helpful.
    http://tooserious.net/forum/stats.php

      BiggySc · 20/04/2016 at 22:26

Sweet I'll check it out man thanks a lot. 🙂

    Dean · 20/04/2016 at 22:10

Biggy hit the red T on Johannisen and bring in Byrne-Jones from Port Adelaide.

Secondly hit the Trade on B Kennedy in your forward line and then you will see a grey (S) next to M Brown in defence click on that and this will then allow you to bring in Ciaron Byrne from Carlton. By making these 2 trades this will give you $676,800 in cash for the following week so then you can upgrade 2 players and bring in two elite premo's.

Your side actually looks bloody awesome to be honest as you have avoided picking the fallen premiums. Also by not choosing Ablett might actually be a great move because he looks to be playing in quite allot of pain.
It is just unfortunate that you had JJ who got injured, along with Priddis & Gibson who didn't play and also R Gray who done very little which is why you scored $hit hose this week.

How many trades do you have left?

      BiggySc · 20/04/2016 at 22:39

Ah thanks for the tips! I have 25 trades left and have been learning to be a bit less trade happy as I go. 😛 Just curious though how do you judge when to trade off players such as Kennedy, Kerridge and the like?

      Pom · 20/04/2016 at 22:42

Dont trade ben kennedy yet! His Breakeven is very achievable. Get rid of dunkley or hewitt doing nothing on your bench.

        The Ranger · 20/04/2016 at 23:39

There's no hard and fast rules Biggy but a general rule is don't trade rookies until their BE is greater than their average.
If in doubt do nowt. Trades are precious.

ThatDamnRascal · 20/04/2016 at 15:54

Chasing the car a bit on Hanley. He'd be more attractive as a def/mid. Rocky comes back in this week and Beams isn't far away which equals less midfield minutes for Hanley

    I N Pieman · 20/04/2016 at 17:02

Agree with that. Huge POD but & can go enormous

      jacko · 20/04/2016 at 21:09

hanley plays more on the wing rather than in the center square

        Paul · 21/04/2016 at 13:21

Yep, I imagine getting back Rocky and Beams would help Hanley be more consistent. He'll get loads on the outside, will have a very high disposal efficiency and will kick goals.

Jess_coach · 20/04/2016 at 16:03

First trade option is JJ to DBJ
And
Papley via DPP (Kerridge) to Tom Mitchell

Will have 567k to spend on the mid, so alternatives to getting Tom Mitchell could be: Selwood, Sloane, Zaharakis, or Josh Kennedy.

——————–'-'—————–

Trade option # 2 is papley to DBJ and JJ to Laird. This is a sideways trade strengthens my Backline.

First option would mean playing DBJ or Tippa on the field.

Sorry for the difficulty I've had explaining this. Any suggestions??

    I N Pieman · 20/04/2016 at 16:16

Don't think it's much of an issue playing Tipa on the field if the last couple of weeks are anything to go by. I like Laird but his bye round is a pain. I like your bolstering of the midfield more. Laird seems consistent & should stay around that price. The midfielders have a higher ceiling than defenders

      Jess_coach · 20/04/2016 at 16:28

Thanks. I'm leaning towards selwood, thoughts?

        I N Pieman · 20/04/2016 at 16:51

I have Selwood. He's a gun. Can go really large

        Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 21:19

Not convinced by Selwood anymore, had a an average 2015 and others have come up at the cats, not to mention Danger arriving.

        Won't be top 10.

    Dean · 20/04/2016 at 22:30

Jess just a suggestion, consider going JJ to DBJ as you stated and also Papley to either Ciaran Byrne or Wagner via DPP in either M Brown or AMT which you most likely will have one of those.

This will give you a extra cash and the following week if you dont have R Gray get him, Other option is Parker, you are allot better off bringing in elite premo midfielders rather then defenders as they are scoring all over the shot, including Shaw which is unusual.

Personally I would stay clear away from Selwood, but thats just my opinion.

Lastly Tom Mitchell concerns me as a top 10 midfield come season end, granted he is killing it at the moment however doubt that will continue, I would much prefer going Gray or Parker over him and then regarding defence later look to bring in H Shaw once he reaches around $510k

    Hope this made sense

      Jess_coach · 21/04/2016 at 01:32

Hi Dean et al. Thanks for some solid reasoning. I've decided to go with TMitch. If you take his sub affected games last year into into account, he averaged 110.Call me crazy but im certain he can improve on that. It also looks like the horse is letting him chase his own ball this year, he shouldnt be given any tagging duties, and his 70 last week was mostly due to the fact that he gave away 4 FFA.

Agreed that Selwood is too unpredictable to choose this (and last) year, so im steering clear. Although I quietly think he will be pushing the 110 average too.

Should have mentioned that I started with parker and, unfortunately Shaw. Gray is one that I cannot afford at the moment, but are hoping for a similar output from Mitchell.

Also, ranked in the top 500, so dont want to wait around with too much cash in the bank

        Jonathan Camac · 21/04/2016 at 09:50

Just depends what you're looking for. I love the look of Laird, he's a consistency beast. Low score is 90 this year, and last year he rarely dropped below 80. Ceiling is around 130 too. I think he is a great option.

Marcus · 20/04/2016 at 16:06

Barlow to merrett a solid trade or a bit of a waste?
Watched barlow this week and he only got like 13 touches im still not convinced on him

    I N Pieman · 20/04/2016 at 16:30

    Very sideways

      Marcus · 20/04/2016 at 17:56

      Yeah your probably right

      Leeds17 · 20/04/2016 at 20:10

Is a 20-25 point increase sideways? seems more like a good rookie to solid premo

    Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 20:55

It was 14 touches and 9 tackles. Without the two frees against the score would've been decent.

Rick Grimes · 20/04/2016 at 16:10

I think I'll burn a trade if Martin doesn't play. Can't take a 0 at this stage of the season. Not like he was hitting the 110+ I wanted anyway.

    I N Pieman · 20/04/2016 at 16:51

Only if your going to one of Goldy Gawn or Nic Nat

      Mac · 20/04/2016 at 17:44

not Gawn Pieman or Blicavs? I like Blicavs as there is less ruckwork done around the ground now and Blicavs may get more points as the season goes on with less interchanges?

        Tommy · 22/04/2016 at 10:48

Chris scott has said, he is being used more as a midfielder this year, with Zac Smith brought in. Also with Rhys Stanley and Nathan Vardy.

    Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 21:27

He had 95, 112 and 106. Then 63 at halftime when he got knocked out. Consistent.

Rucked against Goldy in one of those games, and rucked against Smith, Stanley and Blics vs Geelong, still got respectable scores.

    Look at Gawn's scores without the 172. 85, 95, 105. Nothing spectacular.

Not like was hitting the 110+ after 4 rounds……………..that's ridiculous he was chugging along nicely.

It's not like sauce jacobs who got a 64 in an entire game.

You bought him for a reason have a some faith he is good, his scoring this year shows he's good.

If you're gonna sideways trade like that on a good scoring player good luck in supercoach.

      Rick Grimes · 21/04/2016 at 08:17

Good luck taking a 0 and holding onto your ranking. We're not playing tiddlywinks champ.

Look, if he mans up and plays this weekend, I'll hold. Otherwise I'll probably just get Goldy in and watch him crap all over the other rucks (which I should have done from round 1).

        Rooster · 21/04/2016 at 12:02

Good luck holding your ranking when you run out of trades by Rd 16!!! Martin will miss 1 week at the most. Definitely a hold!

        Tommy · 22/04/2016 at 10:50

I don't think the fact that he needs to "man up" was a factor in his selection. I am sure he would want to play, just needed clearance from the medicos

Brook · 20/04/2016 at 16:11

This week's hot question is as follows: What did the Q&A host's/Channel 9 Sports news reader's running partner say as they sprinted the last 400 metres of The Tan?

A: Feel the Burn, Jones

    Nuggety · 20/04/2016 at 17:12

Nice one Brook…wish his name was gunrookie-jones or cow-jones..

fred nerks · 20/04/2016 at 16:20

there would be few reasons I would trade Hewett Davis Menadue or Paplet to these def cows. most of the coaches doing this will have near premium or indeed premium teams at byes but maybe 6 trades and a bunch of no name benches you see it every year. the last few rounds they have nonames on field for lyon resting players hawks a mile in front doing the same or suspension injury etc It is a must to have a good bench such as cripps stringer these just under prems.. How does one get them ask derek does it every year bet he doesn't trade hewett and davis for byrnes and byrnes.. that's why he will be like the tortoise going past all the hares who are trading for no reason yep 73000 quickly becomes 76 when you have cripps rich and hunter against jo blogs fred nerks and zac dawson on field for the last 5 rounds only my opinion but I am right

    Northernsoul74 · 20/04/2016 at 17:06

Struggling to follow your logic. You need to trade down at some point to bank money. Not every rookie is going to appreciate to >$500k for a single upgrade to a premium.
I'm also pretty sure the outright winners the last few years have traded hard and fast early and held on the end of the season.

      Derek · 20/04/2016 at 18:40

i think the point he is making is to squeeze every last dollar out of the rookies you have before jumping onto the next one. like Higgo said, it only takes one big score from a rookie to make them appreciate in value (one big score can boost their price for 3 weeks until it drops out of their rolling average), 3 price increases from 1 big score. nice.

the general rule is to hold them until their BE is greater than their average. But even then, have a look at what scores are making up their BE. there might be a poor score about to drop out of their rolling average that will give them some more cash the following weeks. have a look at the upcoming games as well.

Job Security is vital. Or at least the chance of playing games in the future. Unless long term injured HOLD them. i still have Gresham, he can be a nice midfield loophole until he gets a game. gresham is a good example, very good player, great NAB form, but found his first crack at AFL tough. he will be back and will be a very good player and i won't need to trade him in.

i'm not a big fan of trading a forward or mid rookie for a defense rookie and then stuff up the structures. if i was to trade Gresham to Byrne via double DPP's, i'll then have kerridge or kennedy on my midfield bench and paps or mcgovern on the field in the forward line.

the defence rookies are only good to downgrade other defense players to (ie JJ) not players from other lines.

defence rookies usually make less cash than other lines anyway. Seriously – hartley, ruggles & Brown! Look at the midfield rookies just over the horizon – petracca, Mathieson, hopper, keough, freeman, lovell, sumner, gore, hiscox, keays, menegola, hardwick plus others yet undiscovered. these are the kids you want, not Ruggles! these are the kids who might get to $400+ and only cost 1 rookie trade instead of 2.

trades are like gold. it is hard to understand early in the season, im already spewing i have used 2, but i had to get rid of lobbe, i'm regretting not have kept Crouch, oh well, plenty more trades where they came from 😉

        Derek · 20/04/2016 at 19:01

i did like the look of Byrne-jones, and i did say i would trade paps to him if paps wasn't named this week. i might have just talked myself out of that 😉

          fred nerks · 20/04/2016 at 21:12

exactly my point D erek Gresham a ball magnet hewett a great neafl game last week paply really only one bad one in 3 and I bet the two byrnes will burn in a couple of weeks its senseless to waste frades when they will end up the same.Like premiums have faith in rookies and give them time only trade if lti or obviously dropped with little hope of early return .Having said that horse could well do that to paps

          Youngster · 20/04/2016 at 21:30

I always enjoy your insights Derek. This time last year many took the opportunity to trade in Tarrant and Krakour who were on the bubble – I was one of them. Holding trades is critical but using them when the opportunity presents is also critical. Getting the right players in early is better than getting them in late. Turning your back on solid downgrade targets in the hope of others coming up can be risky too.

The best advice is to have a plan and execute it. Trading without a plan is what kills you. So whether we trade now or hold all comes down to team planning. And always plan for a few injuries and unexpected situations which will happen. So get a plan and follow it. The SC gods will reveal the majesty/stupidity of your plan in due course…

          Adam · 21/04/2016 at 08:13

Derek what do yo think about Sam Gray?
          Hold or Trade?

And what about if Papley depreciates? is that a big deal or is it worth the risk?

            50_Shades · 21/04/2016 at 08:39

Maybe it depends on how you're traveling with trades left. If you've used a few too many it might be better to hold papley and fingers crossed he shows us what he did in rounds 1 and 2.

Otherwise, if trades aren't a concern, a rookie who's off form, has a higher BE would normally be ripe for the cull and DBJ looks to be a good cash cow replacement.

There's justification either way depending on your situation. Leks comments about Sydney's returning talent are worth considering.

            Derek · 21/04/2016 at 09:45

If you have Sam Gray i suggest you hold him and deal with your other issues. there is always some other issues to deal with more important than an under-performing premos. You just need to hold him and give him every possible chance, you don't want to trade him out and then he scores a 120. if he keeps stinking it up he can stay as your F7 or your last upgrade in the forward line, there is usually plenty of other fallen premiums to sideways to for the run home.

If paps is named and you keep him. He only has to score 60 to hold his value, anything less than that he will drop in price, seems a 50/50 call to me based on recent form. If he smashes out a 90+ you are a genius.

      The Ranger · 20/04/2016 at 22:05

Hey Northern, it's not enough to say you're "pretty sure" the recent winners have traded hard and fast early.
Give us some data to back that up, otherwise it's just a guess/opinion yeah?
Opinions are fine but they need to be expressed as opinions not stated as fact.

        fred nerks · 20/04/2016 at 22:48

bryun ran out of tradesearly not sure about the young fella last year only buddy on the bench given him a clear run

          The Ranger · 20/04/2016 at 23:12

And Bruyn had his manoeuvre…. I want one of those.
Kerridge, Adams, BenKen all looking like possible long term keepers.

            Derek · 20/04/2016 at 23:20

You can get Cloke whenever you want 😉

    WTF · 20/04/2016 at 23:44

I call absolute Bullshite on this and wouldn't be surprised at all if "fred nerks = Derek".
You only want to upgrade your rookies to other rookies that are on high negative break evens such as Byrne-Jones, Wagner or the Ciaran Byrne its not like these rookies come up every week, taking advantage of these cash generation trades are absolutely critical in SC unless your goal is to have a full premium side by round 18.

Derek stating "I think the point he is making is to squeeze every last dollar out rof the rookies you have before jumping onto the next one"
Oh how smart while I hold on to Papley and lets say for arguments sake he goes up another $20k in 2 weeks or so, then round 7 or 8 comes around and the best rookie downgrade I have has a negative breakeven of -20 but I HAVE to now trade Papley because I need the cash to start upgrading.
So my round 7 or 8 to trade out Papley for some rookie that has a poor negative breakeven only ends up generating $40k however Burnes-Jones has appreciated over $130k

Also just totally dismiss the fact that these players such as Byrne-Jones, Wagner & C Byrne have negative break evens of -85, -61, -51 Ah yeah that makes all the sense in the world to wait and "squeeze every last dollar" to just miss out on making a extra $100+ grand by making the trade this week. UNREAL

I have been playing SC since day1 and have finished in top 1% for the past 4 or 5 years my best score being 36th overall in 2014.
This has always been the way to generate cash even when we had 24 trades as opposed to 30 now. How does one expect their cash to increase if you are not trading these rookies such as papley who I might add is only 8 points off from his average, there is a ton more risk keeping him as opposed to trading him, at best papley gains another $20k which I cannot see happening, I actually think he wont play this week.

Derek keeps comparing these rookies to P Cripps & Oxley, yeah fair enough but how many P Cripps & A Oxley's have we had over the several years of SC. Very friggin few.

Lastly have a look at the top 50 players after round 5 is completed, im betting 75% of them will have at least one of the following upgrade rookies in Byrne-Jones, Wagner or Ciaran Byrnes.

Good luck to all, just beware is ALL im saying.

      The Ranger · 21/04/2016 at 00:10

Hi WTF, where have you been for the last few years?!
My record is nowhere near as impressive as yours but surely you'd have to agree that there's no hard and fast rules on how to do well at this game?
Derek and others here are just expressing an opinion and occasionally sharing some stats.
Are you suggesting that getting in these defensive rookies is a must?
      If so then why?

        The Ranger · 21/04/2016 at 00:14

        Lovin this thread.
Maybe there's one way to cook a goose eh?
        Good luck to all

      Derek · 21/04/2016 at 09:36

WTF makes some very good points. I guess i place a very high value on holding trades.

I've seen plenty of people ask "what is a trade worth?" according to WTF it is about $110k! from his example above, holding Paps to make an extra $20k or trading to Byrne-Jones to make $130k.

WTF is a very good player and should know that you need to get your team value to $14.5+ million to be able to say you are at Full premium. Burning trades for $110k is not going to get you there.

Lets wait to see who gets a game this week before deciding what to do.

        Northernsoul74 · 21/04/2016 at 10:26

This site is so much better when you get a number of replies like this to a specific conundrum. Much more useful than 300 single posts asking the same trade questions over and over.

        Southern S · 21/04/2016 at 11:05

That's all good to say, but you don't know how much Byrne Jones could make, it could be 300k and you would've missed the boat.

Then it's worth the trade. I'm not saying you're wrong, and holding trades might work most of the time, but then other times there's moves to be made for profit, and therefore finishing with a premo team.

The way you play there's a lot less chance to finish with a full premo side.

          Derek · 21/04/2016 at 11:57

i agree with that logic. I do like the look of Bryne-Jones and with him scoring a 97 last week, if he can back that up this week, i can see him making $250k. If paps or menadue isn't named this week i'll be trading in BJ.

        WTF · 21/04/2016 at 22:06

I'm stating Byrne-Jones appreciates $130k by round 7-8 but by round 13-15 he is projected to appreciate $300k

It's not rocket science however when you have a rookie on the bubble with a breakeven of -85 and a player such as Papley on +62 yet is only averaging 70
All I am stating is those who don't take advantage of these rookies with such high negative breakevens to generate cash as early as possible in order to upgrade to premiums means one thing and one thing only.

These players will take allot longer to reach a Full premium side which in effect means forget about playing for overall because it's mathematically imposable to win overall by not bringing in a player such as Byrne-Jones for someone like Papley, The only way players like this have a sniff of a chance at winning is IF come round 16 or so comes and 5 or more players end up injured and 90% of the top 10,000 all have these players but if you don't, then you might have a chance at winning this, a bit like winning the lotto.

Or the Steven Bradbury of SC.

Chances are it will NOT wont happen.

          Derek · 22/04/2016 at 00:47

Defence rookies rarely appreciate $300k. As you said Oxley was an exception. Most you are lucky to get $150k out of.

Most good midfield rookies will give you $300k, they are the ones I'm saving up for.

I already have enough defence rookies I don't need anymore messing up my structure. Defence rookies won't get me to $14.5mil.

You might be happy getting a second rate "premium" team for $13.5mil and no trades left, but I won't be.

      youngster · 21/04/2016 at 12:30

And for what it's worth, Mick the Mad Irishman made a corrective trade after round 2 to offload Gresham and bring in Mitch McGovern to generate some cash. I'm not saying it's good or bad but Mick has a habit of ranking very well year after year and I know he trades aggressively to get full premo ASAP which requires CASH and lots of it! Despite running out of trades by round 20 last year, he still finished 493rd overall. I believe Derek actually finished higher. As I said earlier, if you have a solid plan, then you can do well. Every trade has its pros and cons but I agree with you WTF, sometimes the $20k you don't squeeze out of one rookie, you make up on by downgrading at the right time.

@winterjames5 · 20/04/2016 at 16:29

Lekdog and community have no idea what to do with my team i have a couple of mid pricers who have stuffed me up so here is my lineup from last week i have 96k in the bank and ranked 6000

DEF: Houli 59, Laird 95, Adams 72, Weitering 73, Dea 73, Sheridan 55- Bench: Cutler 97, Ruggles 40

MID: Danger 99, Ablett 109 (c), Hannebery 129, Gray 74, Shiel 108, Adams 88, Parish 83, Davis 37- Bench: Priddis, Hewett, Gresham

RUC: Gawn 105, Nic Nat 100- Bench: Lorensch

FWD: Hall 114, Wells 98, Kerridge 78, BKenedy 64, AMT 106, De Goey 68- Bench: Menadue 58, Loophole Rookie

All input would be Helpful, so what trades should i make. do i need to get rid of my midpricers?

    One Touch Wonder · 20/04/2016 at 17:38

Paint the fence with Sheridan and Degoey

Cameron Ling · 20/04/2016 at 16:37

Would you condone the trading out of Milera after getting him in round 3 (first week of trades)? I had to bring him in early as I had too many doughnuts in my team such as wyatt. The only reason I would trade him out is because he has a break even in the 60's and he has a very small likely hood of getting this. Trading him out would mean I could DPP AMT to the forward line and then bring in Byrne-Jones down back, making cash and promising money off of his low ass break even of -67. Please let me know ya thoughts

    Youngster · 20/04/2016 at 21:37

It all depends on how many trades you've used and why you traded Milera in instead of another rookie. As long as Milera is playing, he's a chance to make cash. If you believe Byrne-Jones is a must have, maybe there's other options? If everything was looking good in my team and I'd used 1-2 trades so far, I'd consider it but wouldn't be falling over myself to do it either.

      Cameron Ling · 20/04/2016 at 21:56

Originally brought in milera because he was playing and had most other viable forward options rookie wise. It seems his output is shocking and is soon to be losing money (as soon as this round)

Stewie Dew · 20/04/2016 at 16:38

Merret to Barlow?

    Stewie Dew · 20/04/2016 at 16:47

no, hold barlow

Trent · 20/04/2016 at 17:10

Milera is gone for DBJ.
Will hold papley.
With close to 400k let from this, do I upgrade a rookie with minimal cash generation left (ben kennedy) to a super premo such as mitchell?

    Trent · 20/04/2016 at 17:11

I am looking to increase scoring output of my team this week so mitchell seems vital imo.

      Derek · 20/04/2016 at 17:31

SMitchell is a great player and as a hawks fan i Love him. but he is not an Ultra premo Supercoacher.

i had him last year and would watch him score 100 up to 3/4 time and then have a rest on the bench for the last quarter once the job was done. this year has seen him have to play the whole 4 quarters because the hawks have found themselve in a bit of trouble, as a result he scores big. but mark my works, in games that the hawks have got in the bag, he will be rested.

        Derek · 20/04/2016 at 17:35

not sure where you find quarter by quarter stats, but i bet you will see his first and second quarters far greater than his last.

get someone like Selwood who is a junk time king 😉

        Trent · 20/04/2016 at 17:35

Fair enough, good call. What do you suggest I do with the left over trade. Should I hold or trade in some one.

          Derek · 20/04/2016 at 18:56

wait for them to fully appreciate in value. hold other trades

Grant · 20/04/2016 at 17:12

Not a world beater by any means, so any suggestions or advise would be greatly appreciated. Have plenty in the bank and think that forward line needs to be priority,

Laird, Shaw, Burgoyne, Johannisen, Adams, Weitering, Dea, Hartley,
Danger, Ablett, Hall, Gray, Liberatore, Parish, Mills, Oliver, Hewitt, Dunkley, Gresham
Goldstein, Gawn, Grimley
Wells, Kerridge, Greene, Kennedy, McD-Tip, Brown, Milera, Papley
$735k in the kitty

Thinking of Johannisen for Byrne-Jones and Papley for Zach Merrett

    One Touch Wonder · 20/04/2016 at 17:24

that is alot in the kitty, i would look at spending some of it and getting Fyfe in now.

      Derek · 20/04/2016 at 18:54

Fyfe aint going to get much cheaper

    Tommo09 · 20/04/2016 at 18:36

Great team but if I had to fault it I would say a little thin in the forward line.
Maybe look to upgrade some of your rookies in the coming weeks.

Great ruck combo and I love Burgoyne in the Backline.
    Good job

      Grant · 21/04/2016 at 10:34

Are there any rookies that I have missed….

    Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 19:07

The Beard · 20/04/2016 at 17:32

Lads Merrett or Zarharkas?

    Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 21:17

Those ships may have sailed in the eyes of many.

I still think Merrett is good in a forward line with not many midfielders to choose from there.

      The Beard · 21/04/2016 at 14:27

How do you figure? Zarharkas is at 500k with an avg well above that.

        Southern S · 21/04/2016 at 14:36

In the eyes of many, not quite sailed in my eyes.

I locked Zaha in for 415k but am a little reluctant to say LOCK! LOCK! to others based on 4 rounds and at 500k.

        Southern S · 21/04/2016 at 14:41

Reason being is I see Merret being a top 6 and at worst 10 forward with the lack of forward/midfield players this year.

But if I tell people to lock Zaha in for 500k and he doesn't even make top 20 then it might cost people two trades.

He's doing everything right at the moment if you feel it will last then lock him in and don't look back, don't let others make the decision for you.

Def: Johanissen, Laird, Marcus Adams, Heath Shaw, Jacob Weitering, Daniel Rich – Bench, Mitch Brown, Ruggles

Mid: Sam Mitchell, Danger, Ablett, Zaharakis, Pendles, Libba, Marcus Wright, Matt Crouch – Bench, Ryan Davis, George Hewett, Jordan Snadden

Ruck: Gawn, Naitanui – Bench, Sam Grimley

Fwd: Aaron Hall, Daniel Wells, Suckling, Kerridge, Mcdonald-Tipungwuti, De Goey – Bench, Tom Papley, Connor Menadue

Thoughts on Pittard?

    SCaddict · 20/04/2016 at 19:14

Well he's certainly been getting it done early in the season, 3 scores in the high 80s and then the 118 against GWS. He also started 2015 with a flurry too with 3 tons in the first 5 rounds but then petered out after that.

But ultimately do you really want to spend over $450K on the guy which is pretty much premo dollars for a player that averaged 80 last season? I also have some concerns about Port who is a team in turmoil and one thing they are looking for answers with is their defensive structures so not sure how that will impact on Pittard's scoring.

    Marco_Polo94 · 21/04/2016 at 09:08

Avoid is my advice! I've been sucked in by this bloke 2 seasons in a row. When he's on scores really well running off half back. But both times I brought him in I regretted it – you're better off spending a little more to bring in a top 10 defender.

Tommo09 · 20/04/2016 at 18:19

JJ to Byrne-Jones and Gresham to Byrne via DPP

This leaves me with $464k left in the bank and a paper thin defence for a couple of weeks with only 2 premiums.

Is this a good move or should I change it???

    Derek · 20/04/2016 at 18:49

    i would hold Gresham

      Tommo09 · 20/04/2016 at 19:01

      Should I trade Dunkley instead??

      Tommo09 · 20/04/2016 at 19:13

Fred Nerk made a good point but I see both sides.

    Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 19:56

I don't mind it because Gresham is expensive and has a positive BE. With poor scores and now not getting a gig he's cooked.

      SCaddict · 20/04/2016 at 20:54

I'd go with one of the Zs. I reckon we will be able to pick up Dusty a little cheaper soon whereas the other two guys look like their price will rise at least in the foreseeable future.

        Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 21:16

Agreed. Dusty might be 500k soon.

        Marco_Polo94 · 21/04/2016 at 09:06

Cannot wait for a bottomed out Dusty and Shaw… BANG BANG

oliver · 20/04/2016 at 18:35

eddie betts anyone?

    Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 21:14

    Sailed.

Has 4 tough rounds ahead, he'll probably throw it in my face and carve up though.

    Hawks, Freo, Dogs, Geelong.

james · 20/04/2016 at 18:37

can afford anyone in the fwd line who do i get?

fwd pemos are hall and wells

    Derek · 20/04/2016 at 18:48

If you wait a week or two, Wingard will be under $450k. Then will have Lions, Carlton, WCE, melb, Collingwood.

dusty will be good value soon as well.

      HOLLA · 20/04/2016 at 19:33

Thinkin of ditching the chad myself

Steven May · 20/04/2016 at 19:02

Papley to Zaharakis, thoughts ? Cheers community

    Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 21:37

If you think he can dominate all year then go for it. I took the risk weeks ago, not sure if I would now but hard to deny the stats.

siri · 20/04/2016 at 19:02

Everyone keeps talking about structure.

If u trade out JJ to a rookie, trade PAPS to a premo via BEN KENN dpp how is that gonna effect??? Ur loosing a good player but getting a premo in. Why are most coaches worried about structure!!

james · 20/04/2016 at 19:17

community i am starting to really consider westhoff as a POD in the FWD line priced at $442k in 0.8% of teams, if you take out that poor score of 24 against the crows where they got hammered his avg this year would be 97, he has averaged 90+ laast three seasons, i feel like this move could be one that pushes me up that ranks and seperates me from the pack of people getting buddy zerret or zorko

    Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 19:46

    Big Plums.

      Budstar · 21/04/2016 at 05:30

Lol…big plums….looking at your side and having 22 trades left!! I wouldn't be commenting too much about others sides and picks!! Your team is woeful…just a thought 😉

    Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 21:36

Or it could be that move that pushes you down from the pack.

I suppose you can take that poor score where they got hammered by the crows out, but then again why would you? It happened, and it's not like he was injured.

Simon · 20/04/2016 at 19:22

Do I get parked or Hanley into my side

    Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 19:45

Hanley is good but don't chase points. Parker is also good but he's fairly expensive right now.

    I'd choose parker I suppose.

Jackson · 20/04/2016 at 19:35

J. Gresham and L. McCarthy – which is the highest priority to trade out if neither are named?
I have Papley so will trade for DBJ as per just about everyone this week it seems.

If Gresham and McCarthy not named is it worth getting another of the DEF bubble boys?
Would be looking at probably Byrne.

OR if both are named, should I hold both??
Just believe there will be a stronger crop of rookies emerge.

Thoughts community?

    Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 20:06

One has a negative BE one has a positive BE.

    Derek · 20/04/2016 at 20:29

    McCarthy will play for sure

      Jackson · 21/04/2016 at 09:58

So Gresham to Byrne worthy of a trade?

        Southern S · 21/04/2016 at 14:15

Hard to say, Gresham could come back and get a decent score and start making profit again.

If you really don't want to risk what ifs and try to make some profit on one of the bubble boys then Gresham is the trade to do instead of McCarthy.

McCarthy will be playing this week according to Chris Scott.

Phil · 20/04/2016 at 20:21

Lek i admire the fact that you standup and say Gray isn't the best pick I was wrong, yet you don't gloat about the fact that is what you who picked Hall pre-NAB cup (putting him on my and many other radars) and now everyone is reeping the benefits of it…..Even the big fella Jock, who's copped a bit for leaving out Gaz, was talking up Big Maxy Gawn well before the solid 3 NAB Cup games. Not to forget Patch sticking JJ and Zac Merrett in his Febuary team.

if there's anyone out there that's thinks they can get better advice on another website, I say good luck! I'm pretty happy with Merrett at F1, Hall at F2, and Maxy Gawn at R2….Good job fellas

    Southern S · 21/04/2016 at 14:18

Agree with the whole post but after last year was it really hard to predict Max Gawn was going to have a good year?

Sorry to take that credit from Jock. Still respect you and love your views and podcasts!

magpie4ver · 20/04/2016 at 20:22

What are the communities thoughts on Jarryd Lyons? Thinking of downgrading to him?

    Tophawk · 20/04/2016 at 20:34

I am looking at him very closely. I still have B. Crouch sitting on my bench in the hope he will be back this week.

That said, Lyons has not put a step wrong to date and depending on team selections this week, he could be come very relevant. Milera is out also…..which is likely to secure him a full time job. In form midfielders are in high demand at Adelaide after Paddy's departure.

    High on my watchlist.

      magpie4ver · 20/04/2016 at 20:37

Mine to….just not sure about his JS?

        Tophawk · 20/04/2016 at 20:51

That is my concern also. Especially with b. crouch back in calculations. Mind you, worth watching like hawk over the next few weeks.

          Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 20:52

Kinda have to make a decision on him this week though, in a few weeks the boat would've well and truly sailed.

            magpie4ver · 20/04/2016 at 20:59

Yup….he comes in this week or doesn't?

              Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 21:12

If Crouch is back and Lyons is still in the team it could be a good move to take a punt, being only slightly more expensive than a few of this year's rookies.

    jacko · 20/04/2016 at 21:20

I downgraded De Gooey to him last week turned out to be a great decision.
I also had him a couple of years ago in his rookie season and he was a very good scorer when he actually played always in the 70 – 100 bracket

    the armchair critic · 20/04/2016 at 22:14

Not a premo. Not a rookie. Not a good trade.

    The Ranger · 20/04/2016 at 22:32

    Downgrading from who Maggie?
I watched him at the weekend and he did some good things but it's a tricky price.
With not much if anything available in the mids this week he has to be an option but personally I wouldn't trade him in unless I had to trade this week.

      magpie4ver · 21/04/2016 at 09:06

      Sam Gray

    CapTkaOs · 20/04/2016 at 22:51

I was pretty keen on him for a while and did some research. The thing that put me off was how many games he plays. Previous years, and then games (in brackets) as follows- 2015 (12), 2014 (10), 2013 (9), 2012 (3). I think he has abilty, but the last thing I want is a 300k+ non playing benchie at the pointy end of the season

breakevens · 20/04/2016 at 20:38

Community as lots of people have, I have a dilemma facing me

Option 1: JJ to Docherty leaving me with 86k the bank

Option 2: JJ to Byrne-Jones leaving me with 445k and then over next few weeks upgrade Mills/Kennedy to a super premo and a fallen premo

    SCaddict · 20/04/2016 at 20:49

I'll be downgrading JJ to DBJ and spending the resulting bank balance next week on at least 1 if not 2 upgrades.

    So I'd go option 2.

      Boltons blues · 20/04/2016 at 20:54

Is the double downgrade a good option for this week?
Both the Byrne boys trading out Papley and JJ

Both lines will be 2 keepers and 4 rookies (shaw and laird// hall and wells), with wells playing so well, hard to not classify him as a keeper

Backline rookies are weitering dea Byrne boys
Forward line rookies are Adams Kerridge benken and AMT/menadue

        Boltons blues · 20/04/2016 at 20:55

Also leaves 600k in the bank for 2 possible 3 upgrades in the coming rounds

          SCaddict · 20/04/2016 at 21:06

I'd have no fear in doing that and in fact will probably be doing a double downgrade myself.

Barlow and De Goey are on notice in my team and if they don't produce the goods this weekend one or both will be upgraded next week. Also looking at upgrading Weitering to Shaw either next week or the following one. Also planning to get Fyfe in soon. So have plenty of ideas on how to spend that war chest over the next fortnight.

            Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 21:10

Weitering next week? Not likely with his negative BE. You predicting a poor showing against Freo?

              SCaddict · 20/04/2016 at 21:38

It's only -6 because he has that 129 still floating in his pricing for one more week. Once that drops out and say he has another 70 odd against Freo his BE will suddenly shoot up to around 70ish.

Of course if he pumps out another ton I'll let him fatten further but if he has a quietish game at Subi don't be too surprised if he becomes a culling topic next week especially for those who don't have Shaw like myself. There may only be not much more than $150K difference between the pair next week where they started nearly $400K apart.

But anyway let's see how this weekend unfolds, I'm only mentioning the Weitering to Shaw thing is a possibility I'll be exploring over the next fortnight along with a plethora of other potential upgrades.

                Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 21:57

Yep over the next couple we will see a lot of guys reaching their peak I think. Guess I'm just hoping Weiter isn't one of them.

        Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 21:02

they are going to be thin lines but there's some guys almost to their trading time like Brown, Menadue, and Kennedy that could be upgraded shortly.

          50_Shades · 21/04/2016 at 08:45

          God I hope not.

I think we all need a few of them to kick on for a while longer so that we can have an orderly flow to the firing squad rather than a crowd all at once.

Footy · 20/04/2016 at 20:47

If I get rid of johannisen I have 500k left, I have no idea who I should get and idk if should do another trade

    Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 20:58

Well you could get a defender like Docherty or you could downgrade to a rookie to make some cash for an upgrade elsewhere.

We don't know if you should do another trade either, as we have no idea who else is in your team. You can't except good answers with such a vague post.

      Footy · 20/04/2016 at 21:24

I posted my whole team further up before, nobody gave me an answer, my name is the same

        Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 21:52

Ah ok, like the looks of your team. You don't have a heck of a lot of growth going on with hewett and snadden not playing. That saying Hewett being a mid, and with only a 29 BE if he comes back he can make more coin.

You have a fair amount of guns and decent mid pricers scoring well so I reckon you can get away with a double downgrade to generate some cash.

Thinking the Byrne brothers here. (Byrne-Jones port/Byrne carlton both defenders)

I think Papley will be dumped by sydney this week so you could trade him out and swing adams forward, resulting in a trade for a byrne boy. JJ obviously straight out for the other byrne.

Now you should end up with a decent forwardline with De Goey F6, then you'll have a choice to run a Byrne boy in D6 or swing Tippa back for Brown and play him in that spot.

Then over the next few weeks you can make some upgardes with that cash, maybe get rid of De Goey, Weitering, Crouch or anyone else that looks like their growth is slowing. Need to really lock in premos at that stage.

        Good luck

          50_Shades · 21/04/2016 at 08:47

I agree. Double downgrade should keep the cash flow ticking in therefore direction. Papley and JJ look to be the right outs.

Fevolution25 · 20/04/2016 at 20:57

Menadue to DBJ
De goey to Merrett or Docherty, Rance
or hold?/
is there anyway to see the starting prices from the start of the season so I can work out who I think will be top 6 def and fwd at seasons end

    Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 21:06

Both of those players could still grow in value.

Every player has a plus/minus and amount of cash next to their value don't they?

      Fevolution25 · 20/04/2016 at 21:08

yes but in an easier way to see every player in order

    Danners · 20/04/2016 at 21:15

Fevolution25 · 20/04/2016 at 21:11

who does everyone think the top 10 defenders will be at seasons end??

    jacko · 20/04/2016 at 21:16

Gibson, Docherty, Houli, Rance then throw a blanket over the rest

    Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 21:29

Laird, Docherty, Simpson, Gibson, Houli, Rance, Shaw. Don't need a top ten there's enough there for your backline.

    SCaddict · 20/04/2016 at 21:44

I also expect the forgotten man McVeigh to be around the mark too once he's found some match fitness. The past 4 weeks no longer really matter as it's really how much will they score from here that we need to concern ourselves with.

      Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 21:55

True. KK could be an option I forgot about too.

        Leeds17 · 20/04/2016 at 22:03

Is Docherty over priceed at the moment.?

Biggs looks to be breaking out like Laird did last season, similar style of players too

          Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 22:26

No Docherty is priced reasonably for his performance so far and has a low BE of 69.

Compare him to houli for example, doch has scored 414 for the season, and Houli has scored 404. Yet Doch is 50k cheaper.

JJ on bench this week, Papley to Byrne-Jones and J. Lonergan (the thorn in my side) to C. Byrne
Pocket the extra cash and next week trade JJ to Docherty and M.Crouch to C.Ward

Thanks in advance

    Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 21:31

Makes no sense, why not keep a player like Lonergan or Papley who is actually playing and trade JJ this week instead?

his BE is low and he should meet it if he doesn't I'll trade him out later?

Tommo09 · 20/04/2016 at 21:27

Thoughts community????
When Rockliff bottoms out in a few weeks are we going to get him at a really cheap price say $450k???
Would this be a good option as his BE is really high???
Rockliff is a proven gun and can go huge. We thought $550k was a good price but at sub $500k, what are we thinking???
Thank you

    Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 21:39

I've already traded him out this year so won't be going on that rollercoaster ride, happy to get him back in just before finals for a higher price if he is smashing out big scores.

His body has been too unreliable.

    SCaddict · 20/04/2016 at 22:07

He will have to be looked at by some coaches if he drops to $450K as we know how high his ceiling can be be when fit and firing but it will be hard for me to go back to that particular well after starting with him.

As SS says durability now seems a major concern for Rocky. So for me personally he would now need to show me a good patch of both form and fitness before I would even consider him again this season.

    Hawks · 20/04/2016 at 22:58

Burnt by Rockliff twice in 2015, and once again in 2016.

    Not going near him again

as soon as he bottoms out i will be getting him

    its a must take risk

    rocky is a gun

Nicholas · 20/04/2016 at 21:39

Hey community running low on trades already with 25 left so I could not have too many donuts a bad start for me here is my team:
Defenders: laird, Bartel, B Smith, Weitering, JJ, Dea (Brown, Hartley)
Midfielders: Fyfe, Danger, Ablett, R Gray, O Wines, Rich, Libba, Mills ( B Ken, Menadue, Davis)
Rucks: Nic Nat, Gawn ( M Cox)
Forwards: Hall, Barlow, Wells, Adams, Kerridge, Tippa ( Papley, McCarthy)
Most likely going to go JJ to DBJ however I am thinking of keeping Papley because of my limited trades remaining and 1 game is all it takes to save his BE. Just wondering your thoughts on what I should do this week and how I can save my trades in the coming weeks with a few rookies peeking in 1-3 weeks.

    Derek · 20/04/2016 at 23:26

How much cash do you have. If you have $100k I would go JJ to JPK and swing Rich to defence.

      Nicholas · 20/04/2016 at 23:39

      I have 46.3k

Sam · 20/04/2016 at 22:07

I have Seedsman DEF, Papley FWD, Hewitt MID. Have 37k. I guess I have to wait until teams come out, but what'is your best advice for trade.

    SCaddict · 20/04/2016 at 22:24

Yes best wait for teams and ask again on Friday. But if Seedsman doesn't play I'd be tempted to downgrade him to a rookie bubble boy as he's only made you $20K after two price changes which isn't really good enough for a supposed midpriced cash cow / stepping stone.

I'm in virtually the identical boat with De Goey and probably would've upgraded him if he missed this week but will give him one last chance against the Dons on Monday.

But another disappointing score and that will likely be the end of the experiment unless I have other more pressing issues next week to deal with, which I'm not anticipating, but you never know.

Swanny · 20/04/2016 at 22:13

JJ and Papley out do I go either
Parker and Byrne-jones
Or Mitchell and ruggles

    BKW · 20/04/2016 at 22:32

    Option 1

    Hawks · 20/04/2016 at 22:42

Parker, Mitchell will be rested for at least 2-3 weeks throughout the season in addition to the bye.

Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 22:21

Laird, Shaw, Weitering, Dea, Sheridan, DBJ, – Hartley/Byrne

Danger, Ablett, Zaharakis, Libbe, Crouch, Kennedy, Barlow, Lyons – Mills/Menadue/Davis

Gawn, Nic Nat – King

Hall, Wells, Adams, Kerridge, Tippa, De Goey – Brown/McCarthy

1,315, 900 in the bank.

Have I completely lost my marbles? have I taken my greed for profit too far?

I only count 9 keepers (11 with Libbe and Barlow). Is it worth going these bubble boys for JJ and Papley?

    Hawks · 20/04/2016 at 22:49

Yes, you have lost your marbles

      Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 22:53

I knew it. Just needed to hear it from others. I am going for league wins only but I know I've gone to far. Gonna go check myself in to SC rehab.

        The Ranger · 20/04/2016 at 22:56

That's a shit load of money!
        How many trades left mate?

          Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 23:12

Only 22. Been trading hard. Had Crouch, Rocky and JJ which didn't help.

            The Ranger · 20/04/2016 at 23:32

            22! Jeez mate that's low.
Spend that money on players who have a good chance of lasting out the season,
Have you planned for the byes? I plan for nine over the byes. I may be wrong but you you could be in trouble come finals time if you've traded that hard already.

              Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 23:44

I'm not too worried about the byes just worried about hitting full premo and having injury trades for finals.

          Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 23:23

And JJ cost me 2 of my 8 used………………………

            50_Shades · 20/04/2016 at 23:37

22 trades is not a great position to be in, but I wouldn't underestimate Adams or Weitering. Either one of those could see you through to the pointy end of the season.

I haven't yet given up hope on Barlow averaging say 90-100 (which would be reasonable to park on the fwd line)

              Southern S · 20/04/2016 at 23:47

Yep hoping those two and even Dea and Crouch can be held till later rounds. Holding Barlow hopefully the whole way through can't count on it though.

                The Ranger · 20/04/2016 at 23:56

Injuries are the killer if you're low on trades. Loads of us will tell you how that screwed us up last season, Getting to full premo quick is one thing but if those premos then get injured ya buugered without trades. Then again, if you can avoid the injury trades you could be in a really strong position. Good luck Southern.

                  Southern S · 21/04/2016 at 10:31

Yep I'm going to need some luck that's for sure. If a few of my premos go down early (As JJ and Rocky already have) then I'm in a bit of trouble.

What about Micheal Barlow lads? Thinking about trading Suckling and Hanley in, with a bit of moving around for Johanissen and Barlow. Any thought?

    SCaddict · 20/04/2016 at 22:38

I think most of us Barlow owners are looking to give him at least one more run around against the Blues.

But he definitely isn't looking great out there and with the Sandi injury and Freo's struggles in general I think you are well within your rights to trade him before he leaks further cash if you really feel that is best for your team. He does have a gettable BE of 87 though.

    Hawks · 20/04/2016 at 22:53

I think you should retain Barlow for at least another week or two.

When Freo start playing better, I expect Barlow to get more of the ball, and start scoring 100+

    Adam · 21/04/2016 at 08:19

HOLD BARLOW, can't emphasize this enough

    @wheels_1987 · 21/04/2016 at 13:09

    im holding barlow mate

why do you have him in your team?

    remember that before trading

4 weeks is not a season

Hawks · 20/04/2016 at 22:39

Papley to Byrne-Jones (via swing)
JJ to either Rance or Docherty

I'm leaning towards Rance, because I already have 2 Carlton defenders in Simpson & Weitering. I intend to pick-up Shaw in 2-3 weeks.

Thoughts on Rance vs Docherty?

    Marco_Polo94 · 21/04/2016 at 09:13

Personally prefer Rance, others will say Docherty – can't go wrong with either. I just like Rance because i know he will get the job done.

Chris · 21/04/2016 at 00:24

Papley to zorko
and
JJ to DBJ

or

Papley to DBJ
and
hold JJ for a week or so (going for league win and have cover) and then trade to dusty when he drops in price

    Chris · 21/04/2016 at 00:32

    Or Papley to DBJ
    and
    JJ to rance/docherty

      Abracadabra · 21/04/2016 at 01:14

I'm doing papley and JJ out for DBJ and Zorko myself..feel like Zorkos form is much better than Dusty so far

    Adam · 21/04/2016 at 08:21

    i like it.

No extra defensive players, but be wary of one less def premo

Adam · 21/04/2016 at 08:18

What do people think of Sam Gray to Byrne Jones?

    50_Shades · 21/04/2016 at 08:34

Sure. It builds a war chest to grab a fallen premium in the next couple of rounds.

You know what will happen though. Gray will have a beast mode game – ignore it, just the SC gods trying to mess with your mind.

      Jock Reynolds = Trap · 21/04/2016 at 10:47

I know, His draw is good too. 🙁

      Southern S · 21/04/2016 at 11:31

Port's draw isn't as good as it looks. The next 4 teams they play all beat them in 2015.

Jock Reynolds = Trap · 21/04/2016 at 08:34

I unfortunately had fallen in the trap called Jock Reynolds and did the following:

– B.Kennedy and Parish to Simpkin and Gresham
– Papley to McCarthy
– Merrett to S.Gray
– Martin to Barlow

He almost convinced me to take out Weitering and Adams
I knew i should've listened to Lek and Patch

I know its my fault for listening but STILL it infuriates me so

    Kev · 21/04/2016 at 08:48

"I know its my fault" pretty much sums up this comment.

    Marco_Polo94 · 21/04/2016 at 09:00

Maybe this will teach you not to just copy other people's teams/advice and go your own way. At the end of the day the guys on this website are here to discuss possible solutions and scenarios – they've never claimed to make the correct moves all the time.

With any coaching in sport a player has to pick and choose what suits their style and their gameplay, same for Supercoach – pick and choose the advice from the community that suits you and follow your HEART. 🙂

    Derek · 21/04/2016 at 09:50

    did you start with Ablett?

      Jock Reynolds = Trap · 21/04/2016 at 10:48

      I knew i forgot one
      Pendlebury instead of Ablett 🙁

        Southern S · 21/04/2016 at 11:26

Jock was sick of so many people with a team like his, so he sabotaged the sheep of the community. This exposed the cookie cutters from the real coaches.

Now he's killed off a large chunk of people from the supercoach race this year and made it easier to win for people who think for themselves.

        Good luck in 2017.

    Budstar · 21/04/2016 at 09:58

Suck it up princess!! You selected your team, don't blame others!! Maybe it's time for a hot milo to calm yourself down!!

    PPolitican · 21/04/2016 at 10:04

I don't pay much attention to what spews out of Jock's mouth – even when I can comprehend what he is saying. However his site is great for Supercoachers because of feedback from experienced Supercoachers like Sarah, Derek, Pieman etc.

    Southern S · 21/04/2016 at 10:29

First swaps are pretty bad, but nobody was to know.

McCarthy will end up making more than Papley, and will play more games this year.

You locked in an unproven 'premo' player. Fail.

Martin has bled almost as much as Barlow and has a 155 BE, he's only a better pick by a whisker both are bad right now.

Kev · 21/04/2016 at 08:40

Every time I hit the T on Sam Gray I get a feeling in my gut, a little niggle, a voice creeps into my head that just says hold. His raw stats are okay, averaging 23 disposals (8 contested), 3 marks, and 3 tackles a game. He just can't hit the side of a barn door! Went at 75% last week which was positive, just with Port getting smashed his touches counted for zilch.

At 420k he's not far away from bottoming out so I'm leaning towards grinding it out rather than blowing 100-150k of my funds to get in Merrett/Hall/Zorko

    Marco_Polo94 · 21/04/2016 at 09:01

    Shark

    Southern S · 21/04/2016 at 10:22

On average it loos ok, but that's because of one big game in round one. The last three weeks stats paint a different picture.

    Keithy · 21/04/2016 at 11:03

Hi Kev, I am in the same boat with Gray. I am going to hold as you stated I can't justify the spend to trade him up. It basically means that the money made trading Papley to DBJ is gone. I don't know if holding will work but if it does we will be two of the few to benefit.

    @wheels_1987 · 21/04/2016 at 13:06

    Hold him mate

    you wont regret it

Marco_Polo94 · 21/04/2016 at 08:56

Houli, Bartel, Smith, Weitering, Dea, Adams (Brown, AMT)
Danger, Ablett, Gray, Pendles, Selwood, Liba, Parker, Parish (Davis, Menadue, Petracca)
Nic Nat, Gawn (Grimley)
Riewoldt (Jack), Hall, Wells, Kennedy, Lyons (McCarthy, Papley)

Considering Papley for Byrne-Jones, thoughts? If Papley is named I would like to keep him, however Byrne Jones will make a lot of cash… not sure what the play is this week. Would appreciate some wisdom

    Rick Grimes · 21/04/2016 at 09:27

If you hold Papsmear you'll need 60 odd to just breakeven. It seems like that is about his cap at the moment. Those tons from the first two rounds are an anomaly. I think you have to take the $100k you made an move on.

      Marco_Polo94 · 21/04/2016 at 09:30

Yeah, West Coast this weekend I don't see him scoring much more than 60, however Brisbane and Essendon after that hmmmm. Sydney could run riot. Guess teams tonight will decide for me – I suspect Paps will be dropped

        Chill · 21/04/2016 at 10:11

Marco I agree the Essendon and Brisbane games are tempting to hold Paps for BUT what if he is named this week… plays terribly again and gets dropped? Then he never gets to play brisbane and essendon Then you lost money on him, you have to trade him the following week but you missed the train on DBJ, Byrne, Wagner etc.

        Southern S · 21/04/2016 at 10:17

Brisbane is at the Gabba and they will have all their mids back (except beams)

Essendon aren't even that bad. Even if Sydney destroy them both doesn't mean some kid rookie is going to score well.

Anyway watch him get omitted tonight when teams drop.

          BlakeyP · 21/04/2016 at 10:54

I hope he is not omitted cause that will make some fools keep him. He will play WC get a -40 and loose money. But if he is omitted every man and his dog will ttade him

Paulie Walnuts · 21/04/2016 at 09:11

My concern is similar to other seasons we might have rookies peaking at the same time, I'm culling Papley to DBJ this week to start the process

    CapTkaOs · 21/04/2016 at 10:09

Thats why we shouldnt panic too much when a player gets dropped but we know they will be back- e.g. McCarthy.

PPolitican · 21/04/2016 at 09:27

Is it worth while to hold O. McDonald, Melbourne defender who got injured in his first game and has a BE of 27 or trade him to Byrne-Jones?
Incidentally, I personally found the earlier debate regarding the pros and cons of rookie trading most interesting. Thanks to WFT and Frednerks/Derek. I was hoping that wise Sarah would enter 'the debate' because I value her imput.

    Loop · 21/04/2016 at 10:53

I still have him. This week I traded Papley to DBJ and Milera to Byrne. I have Byrne on the ground, DBJ on the bench and will use O Mc to take DBJs score if its OK. Could come unstuck if he gets named but we'll see what happens when we hear the teams. I'm going to hold him for a while longer I think and hope that he gets another go and I can make some money from him. I feel like I needed to trade as I need to build up some cash.

Alex · 21/04/2016 at 09:53

BenKen to Ward? Leaves me with no cash.

Cheers community

    Southern S · 21/04/2016 at 10:14

Nope, still capable of making money, no point trading people out before they have maxed out cash generation.

EdCavey · 21/04/2016 at 09:56

Community. I need some help.

I am trading JJ for DBJ this week.
And I am also planning on trading out either Papely or Callum Sinclair to Bryne or Cockatoo.
What are your thoughts? Callum will drop in price and I would like to get rid of him, papely has a lot of dislike at the moment but could still come out and score another 100 and go up in price for a trade off to a premo with the money I make. I can make an Andrew Tipo switch to bring in bryne or take cockatoo.
Thoughts?

    Marco_Polo94 · 21/04/2016 at 10:25

Unlikely Callum Sinclair will drop in price – BE of 76

    Marco_Polo94 · 21/04/2016 at 10:26

See whether Papley is named tonight – most will be trading him for Byrne Jones regardless. Really just gotta go with your gut whether you keep the Papsmear or not

    Southern S · 21/04/2016 at 10:34

Agree, Callum will most likely get you more points than the smear this week too.

Tofor · 21/04/2016 at 10:05

Hey there community.
De Goey or Kennedy for Zac Merett? Yes or No? I'm on 25 trades and comfortable with how everything else is going.
Do Goey has a B.E of 42 and projected score of 65 and Kennedy has a B.E of 56 and Projected score of 74..
Both these guys and Merrett are projected to rise about 10-20k this week.

    Marco_Polo94 · 21/04/2016 at 10:29

Wouldn't be trading Kennedy. De Goey, unsure. He's looked pretty rubbish so far, but then again so has all of collingwood. I picked Taylor Adams last season who started poorly so i traded him out. then about 3 weeks after i traded him he clicked into another gear and I regretted the trade. Only promising thing with De Goey is he is getting plenty of time in midfield – so still has potential to increase his scoring significantly.

    Southern S · 21/04/2016 at 10:36

Don't like the De Goey trade, with a BE of 42. Don't like either trade.

    Tofor · 21/04/2016 at 11:27

Thanks for your thoughts.. I reckon I'll just hold off for now.

Gotta be JPK or Zach mate, I have Selwood and I am not impressed with his numbers so far. Easy games and he ain't getting a hard rag now but still could be on the up.
Sloan will struggle this year and while he will score well like he did against Sydney he will also score -90 most weeks I think.

Davonaise · 21/04/2016 at 10:51

Serious question here guys in relation to who do you think will score the most out of these 450k-530k mids

Duncan
Cripps
Scully
Griffin
Zaha
Ziebell

I want to grab one of these as a POD but the ultimate reason for doing this, I can grab Shaw a fallen Premium and (Pendlebury?) another fallen premium next week.
This round my trades are JJ to BJ and Paps to my 450k-530k option
Need some insight from this beautiful community

    Southern S · 21/04/2016 at 11:14

    My guess would be………..

Zaha, Duncan, Cripps, Ziebell, Griffen, Scully.

    SC God · 21/04/2016 at 11:15

Scully now that the inchanges are reduced

    Leeds17 · 21/04/2016 at 11:27

Hunter should be in the picture

      Southern S · 21/04/2016 at 11:29

      True, he's a gun.

    The Mountian · 21/04/2016 at 11:48

I would say Duncan, however they way North are playing Ziebell seems like a great option if he can keep up the scoreing however im no so sure he can. Same goes for Zaha.

      Southern S · 21/04/2016 at 12:03

Not so sure about your view on Zaha, he is really relishing the no.1 on baller position at the bombers with no Stanton, Watson and Heppell in his way.

Had an awesome preseason and is physically (and I assume mentally) A1.

Sometimes it takes a poor season and a new door to open to really allow someone to flourish and he seems to be a great example of that, he's a very athletic midfielder of which these types seem to be excelling in the modern game and he can run a full game out.

He actually paid for his own trip to america to do high altitude training, that's dedication. He's 26 and ticks all boxes to have a huge season, bar injury of course.

    Derek · 21/04/2016 at 12:14

would you put Bont on the list, or is he out of form?

      Southern S · 21/04/2016 at 12:57

He's an interesting one Derek, he's had rough patches during his career and he seems to bounce back.

Has a 138 BE atm so wouldn't jump on him now but could be an interesting POD in a couple of weeks for people. Only a midfielder though no forward eligibility which doesn't make him very appealing unlike last year.

Personally I wouldn't put someone like that in my team until the end of the year and budget forced me to settle on mid premo-ish player.

But yeah he could be on that list although he'd probably be down the bottom for me.

      Northernsoul74 · 21/04/2016 at 13:06

The Bont had very minimal pre-season hence the slow start. I wold the be going near him yet.

is everyone taking hanely very serious i have the option to bring him in but not she what he will do in the next few weeks

    Southern S · 21/04/2016 at 11:17

Not really, I'll see if he's a premo later in the season, not interested in what if's at this stage.

    CapTkaOs · 21/04/2016 at 11:29

He has a high ceiling and I can see the attraction, but I'm bypassing him, mainly because I don't need another injury prone player.
I've got Pendles (playing sore), Rocky (coming back from a calf), Priddis (returning from a niggle), Wells, Menzel, McCarthy, B Crouch (all with injury histories). As well as that, I'm running with no ruck cover. Its all going OK at the moment. But there is no way I expect all those last 4 to play out the season. When I cull them, I'll be trying to bring in players with a history of fully functioning arms and legs after round 15.

        Southern S · 21/04/2016 at 14:33

Zaharakis – Great preseason, fit as a fiddle and the no.1 experienced midfielder at the bombers.

Merret – Has progressively improved his output over his last two seasons, more important role at the club and taking it to the next level. Is only 20 years old, but has been playing AFL for 40 odd games now.

Sorry can't help you pick one, summon the SC gods for advice and go with your gut.

    judd0 · 21/04/2016 at 20:42

Although I like Merrett better I think Zaha is a better option this year at the bombers, Merrett will be a better option in years to come.

Southern S · 21/04/2016 at 11:40

Enright and McCarthy back this week.

Enright was managed, and McCarthy rested due to having a history of foot problems.

"We'll definitely name both of them (Enright and McCarthy) in our squad, and barring any unforeseen circumstances they'll both play," Scott said.

    Big G · 21/04/2016 at 11:42

    Will that affect ruggles?

      Southern S · 21/04/2016 at 11:47

It could, they left out Lonergan the other week when ruggles first played, that could've been a structural swap. (ie opposition had a smaller forward line)

Not sure if they'll play tall vs Port Adelaide have to wait and see. Ruggles may miss out.

      CapTkaOs · 21/04/2016 at 11:54

Chris Scott was on SEN last week and pretty much said that he doesn't look at "the best 22" so much as "the best 25-26 to rotate through the team". Ruggles may get dropped, but if he does I think he has just taken Thurlows spot in the rotations and will be back. Wouldn't be surprised to see Menzel (another cat that needs to be carefully managed due to his injury history) rested this week to make way for McCarthy.
Plenty of people on here are wary of Geelong players for this reason.
I've got Menzel and McCarthy on the basis that at least one of them should play each week and they have scoring ability.

EDM · 21/04/2016 at 11:44

1) Lonergan to DBJ and Pap to Buddy or other fwd under $500k.
2) Pap to DBJ (via AMT but means that I lose the ability to swap with Adams in the future) and Lonergan to Zorko (via swap with Yeo) in the mid.
3) Pap to DJB and Lonergan to Docherty or Suckling.

Any thoughts from the community much appreciated as always.
