Legend BVC! A very helpful tool

    @WellsM84 · 15/03/2016 at 18:00

I agree,he's very helpful but The Baron is certainly no tool..

Holty · 14/03/2016 at 10:32

absolute superstar Barron. This site never fails to surprise.
Now wonder if the podcast will come out today on the long weekend?

Kaarto · 14/03/2016 at 10:32

Thanks for this. Does anyone know where I can find the scores/tog of every player in the comp? It floated around last season.

    PJ8 · 14/03/2016 at 10:36

Fan footy website or in advanced stats

      Leighroy · 14/03/2016 at 10:49

Footy wire is good too. In saying that in the past there has been an excel spreadsheet of a table floating around showing all players scores and what score would have been if they played 100% game time etc. I think it usually comes out just before season starts.

    OldOcker · 14/03/2016 at 13:54

All of the links are on my website. "Ultimate Spreadsheet" you will find here on this site but the link to it is on my site too

    @footy_bec · 14/03/2016 at 14:26

Think that was on DT Talk.

    DadSmasher · 14/03/2016 at 15:06

I agree with Leighroy, Footy Wire is the easiest to use stats record and has everything you could need

hedeski · 14/03/2016 at 10:33

Cheers baron looks the goods will go over it tonight.

OldOcker · 14/03/2016 at 10:34

Nice Barron will be a very handy resource for Rookie research.

PJ8 · 14/03/2016 at 10:34

This is great!
Can this be open this on iphone somehow?

    Shannan · 14/03/2016 at 12:17

No because it is an Excel file ( microsoft ) and it's not compatible with Iphone ( I'm pretty sure) if you had one of them Microsoft phones you'd be laughing haha.. I'm like you though I had to use my computer to check lol.

    @footy_bec · 14/03/2016 at 12:59

There is an Office 365 Excel app you could try to open it with.

    DadSmasher · 14/03/2016 at 13:20

    Try this PJ

    Swans2012 · 14/03/2016 at 21:09

Download sheets app and open In That, works perfecto

Bongwaterbrawlers · 14/03/2016 at 10:34

Hey Barron, having issues with it.

When i open the spreadsheet theres no data on it other then info bar across the top.
Why would this be?

    CoachDamo · 14/03/2016 at 10:40

The first tab just includes notes – you need to click on the other tabs at the bottom of the page for players in each position.

      Bongwaterbrawlers · 14/03/2016 at 10:53

      ahhh champion
      Cheers bud.

michael · 14/03/2016 at 10:37

for the people that dont have office and cant see it can some kind person put it up in the comments please

    Bongwaterbrawlers · 14/03/2016 at 10:54

Try and work it on your mobile phone mate, its my viewing playform.

    DadSmasher · 14/03/2016 at 13:22

Google openoffice it's free and does everything Microsoft office does. Made by apache so it's safe and reputable.

Nathan · 14/03/2016 at 10:37

Very nice
Love ya work

Spartacus · 14/03/2016 at 10:38

That Ollie Tabooger looks the goods. He's a lock for mine

    hedeski · 14/03/2016 at 12:11

Still a bit green. Next year I reckon.

    DadSmasher · 14/03/2016 at 13:29

I've had him since day dot.

    Dean · 14/03/2016 at 22:49

    WTF is Ollie Tabooger

    Timmy D · 15/03/2016 at 20:22

    Clayton Oliver?

West · 14/03/2016 at 10:41

This is amazing! Well done BVC, you legend!

CoachDamo · 14/03/2016 at 10:41

Great work Barron!

It looks like there is more value in defence and the forward line compared to the midfield. I'm thinking I might have to go deeper in the middle this year so I can fit an extra rookie in defence and up forward.

James · 14/03/2016 at 10:44

How does my team look

Shaw, houli, docherty (Collins
Weitering, brown, Hartley (bonner)

Ablett, Pendlebury, Rockliff, Cripps
Libba, crouch, wells, mills
(Gore, Cunningham, Mathieson)

Nic Nat, Martin

Deledio, Zorko, Barlow
Gray, kerridge, petracca
(Kommer, grimely)

    JAYZ · 14/03/2016 at 11:04

Not bad if it was under budget

      James · 14/03/2016 at 11:07

      Yeah it is

    Jack · 14/03/2016 at 11:25

Need to do something about having Petracca on the ground. Not expected to play in the senior side straight away. Downgrade Deledio into Dusty/Dahlhaus and look at someone like Linc McCarthy maybe?

    Snuffalupagus · 15/03/2016 at 01:12

Get rid of Delidio and Zorko and strengthen you backline. Sheridan and Johanisen appear great value and you will get better returns from forward/mid rookies that are avail. Even just swapping to Toby Greene will save you some cash and he may score better than either of them. Must get Parish in your midfield!! And Brad Crouch if he is playing!

    Snuffalupagus · 15/03/2016 at 01:15

Oh yeah, Mathisen received a broken jaw on weekend I think, so he may well not front up round one??

throttlefinger · 14/03/2016 at 10:49

No better time for this…

    hedeski · 14/03/2016 at 11:23

    Ha ha nice throtts

Jack · 14/03/2016 at 10:49

Shaw, Birchall, KK
Weitering, Hartley, brown
(Bonner, broad)

Ablett, Pendlebury, rockcliff, Shiel
Wines, Libba, menadue, Gresham
(Cunningham, Mathieson, freeman)

Martin, Gawn

Martin, dalhaus, Merrett
Barlow, kerridge, grimely
(Kommer, petracca)

Any thoughts and comments please

    Jack · 14/03/2016 at 11:27

Very nice. Good spread premos, consistent mid-pricers and possible breakouts. Only concern is starting without both Goldy and Fyfe. Could pay off though.

    Jock Gaynolds · 14/03/2016 at 12:14

      DadSmasher · 14/03/2016 at 13:26

I've never seen a prettyshit so I don't think you'll get many sent to you. You can have some of mine but they're quite ugly

    Snuffalupagus · 15/03/2016 at 01:06

Actually mate, I think you are missing some valuable cash cows! You have a limp wristed backline. Trade Zorko and Martin for maybe Grimely and Simpkin. They are likely to play and will be serviceable compared to some of your backline which could be helped by trimming off a couple of doubtful cashcows (remember you are looking for 60+ points from your rookies! Upgrade to potential 90pt players who are well priced such as Tommy Sheridan and Jason Johanisen. This will also give you a couple of hundred to upgrade your midfield rookies who should score well such as Darcy Parish. Martin is expensive and a great pick, but picking up maybe Nic Nat will allow you another quality back man such as Kade Koldinaschi! I think you will be a much higher scorer if you concentrate on solid scoring midfield rookies and some Mid/fwds as they normally score better than rear end rookies!! Hope it helps!

Corey · 14/03/2016 at 10:53

And here I was watching spongebob with my 2yr old, coffee in hand thinking "I need to populate the NAB scores in a spreadsheet" and whalla! Great stuff BVC!

    DuckingTigers · 14/03/2016 at 11:36

    Voila indeed.

BKLS · 14/03/2016 at 11:04

Great work BVC! Will be very handy indeed!

Community, who is the best midfield premium around 570k? Currently have Ward and Shiel, but I didn't mind Treloar on the weekend.

Ward or Treloar or similar priced premo mid?

    Maggi · 14/03/2016 at 18:23

    Treloar mate. Gun

    Beijing · 17/03/2016 at 02:12

    Isn't Parker cheaper …

Tony · 14/03/2016 at 11:06

I'm on my iPad and i am unable to do download the NAB rookie spreadsheet, suggestions?

    Jock Gaynolds · 14/03/2016 at 12:14

    buy a laptop

    Swans2012 · 14/03/2016 at 22:44

sheets app opens it no problem

@GAVEDAY · 14/03/2016 at 11:07

Shake n bake · 14/03/2016 at 11:16

Might be a bit silly but can't get it on my iPhone. When I click on to download tells me error has occurred.

ThatDamnRascal · 14/03/2016 at 11:16

Well between BVC spreadsheet and Old Ockers my morning has been well spent. This community has gone to another level

leighkrstic · 14/03/2016 at 11:22

download it, go to open and says it cant be found :/

Rick Grimes · 14/03/2016 at 11:28

Bloody brilliant effort thanks mate. Much appreciated.

@might_be_jack · 14/03/2016 at 11:30

Some absolute gold to be made in defenders and forwards this year. It seems as though the most likely mid cash-cows are all either of inflated prices (Mills, Oliver, Parish) or injured and/or not expected to play early (Freeman, Petracca, possibly Mathieson)

Makes the loophole an easy pick this year, at least 🙂

The benchmark · 14/03/2016 at 11:36

R3. What is everyone going for?
1/Non playing cheap player for loophole
2/your grimley type player that will score but poorly

    The_Black_Mamba · 14/03/2016 at 11:50

Im going wyatt in R3 for a loophole but have grimley forward just in case. Cheers!

      The benchmark · 14/03/2016 at 11:59

      Yea that's might thought process
I'm just concerned about grimleys output. So many better options in the forward line to fatten up as cash cows
I'm probably leaning to no grimley and risk no back up in the ruck and trust my set and forget structure

        @emhoy · 14/03/2016 at 12:12

I have gone with bench ruck option for my loophole and dumped grimley there are better bench options

          The benchmark · 14/03/2016 at 12:50

          yep agreed about grimley.
Sinclair , tippet and Blicavs are your swingmen and I can't pick any of them for my mind. I'd say Sinclair if anyone but has an awkward price
I think that's why many are going grimley on the bench

            the benchmark · 14/03/2016 at 12:50

    CoachDamo · 14/03/2016 at 12:15

I'm putting Grimley on the bench in the Ruck and I'm going to choose a Ruck/Fwd in the forward line. Some players will trade out a ruckman if they miss a week or two through suspension or injury – I'd rather just be able to cover them by swinging my Fwd/Ruck into the Ruck.

The problem is I haven't worked out who it might be yet! Sinclair perhaps?

Ben · 14/03/2016 at 11:44

Cheers BVC!
The foward rooks are scarce this year…

The_Black_Mamba · 14/03/2016 at 11:48

What do people think of a defence with Shaw, Simpson, Bartel, Weitering, Hartley and Brown sound like?

    Tiges · 14/03/2016 at 12:32

Sounds solid mate, don't know if I rate Bartel this year in the forward line,. better options out there. Reckon Dea is a better pick over Weitering this year too. Will be consistent and just that $40k less.

@iliad1976 · 14/03/2016 at 11:49

Barron Von Crow
You sir an absolute gentleman! Thank you so much

james · 14/03/2016 at 11:51

542k to spend on a defender already have laird

    mick · 14/03/2016 at 13:37

    @footy_bec · 14/03/2016 at 14:29

    Like the look of McGovern

    abel · 14/03/2016 at 18:58

Like JJ and upgrade Laird to Shaw

@OldCampaignerSC · 14/03/2016 at 11:57

Great work barron!works well on the mobile!!

SC_Beast · 14/03/2016 at 12:05

Barron, this is outstanding! Extremely helpful mate, great job!

Is it bad to start without Ablett, Rockliff, Parker and Libba and select Pendles, Priddis, Gray and Oliver?

If I do that trade my mids would be:

Fyfe, Danger, Pendles, Priddis, Gray, Mills, Oliver, Gresham plus 3 bench rookies?

compared to

Fyfe, Danger, Ablett, Rockliff, Parker, Libba, Mills, Gresham

    The_Black_Mamba · 14/03/2016 at 12:16

Hi there beast. Personally I prefer option 1. Not completely sold on libba but hes to much of a bargain not to start with. My current midfield is Fyfe, Danger, Pendles, Rockliff, Shiel, Cripps, Libba, Mills plus 3 bench rookies. Good luck beast!

    Liam · 14/03/2016 at 13:02

I think you need gaz, libba and rocky

    @footy_bec · 14/03/2016 at 13:04

I like it, why be the same as everyone else. And the ones you have chosen all played 22, or close to last year.In the second option, 4 were injured and some re-injured, cough, Rockcliff, again fairly quickly.

      SC_Beast · 14/03/2016 at 13:10

      exactly my thoughts footy_bec

        Pete · 14/03/2016 at 19:45

I feel the locked and loaded midfield with players having interupted pre seasons and current injuries is a massive risk rather than a safe play. With the interchange cap we need really fit players that can play max % game time for max scores.

bUCKET__ · 14/03/2016 at 12:11

Phroaw get on Menegloa to reach $967,500 based on that NAB form. If only he could get on and stay on the park eh!

Ben · 14/03/2016 at 12:12

Currently my team is this:
DEF: Shaw, Laird, Bartel, Weitering, Dea, Hartley (Brown, Collins)
MID: Fyfe, Dangerfield, Ablett, Rockliff, Liberatore, B Crouch, Mills, B Kennedy (David, Hewett, Mathieson)
RUC: Goldstein, Martin (Chol)
FWD: Deledio, Barlow, Hall, Wells, Milera, Kerridge (AMT, Menadue)

Defence – My three premiums are picked as i feel they will all be top 6 in points for that category this year. Little be nerved by some of the Essendon rookies performances yesterday, however i don't feel that they will be destroyed by that amount every week.
Midfield – The 4 super premiums will provide me with huge amounts of points and i feel that none of them are too overpriced. Brad Crouch collected 40 possessions in the SANFL on Saturday so his scoring capabilities are not in doubt. Im aware that the standard is lowered but that also proves his fitness. Crows will certainly play him rd 1, as long as he doesn't go too the Royal Croquet Club in the next few weekends :'). Im also aware Mathieson will be out, just yet to hear any news about the extent to his injury.
Ruck – SET AND FORGET, using chol as the 'vc' loophole. Grimley isn't proficient enough i believe to generate cash or be of worth. So i believe the loophole will provide me with more points on the whole.
Forward – Now the big question all probably going through your head is,'WHY NO MARTIN!!', i feel the problems going on with his dad will interrupt his season. Deledio had an average of 112 last year with the exclusion of an injury that would of been 115+. I'm willing to pay a bit more for for, (115.20-22). Gold coast would be mad not to play Hall in the mid even when the guns come back, i feel he is a lock after last years end and his Nab form. With Swallow and O'Meara to be out until near mid season it should further provide scoring potential for Hall. As a whole my FWD is probably my strongest line in terms of locks with even my bench rookies to have some good scoring outlet.

I came in the 1000's last year and would like to improve on that this year, all selections are subject to RD 1 selections and injuries in the coming weeks. Any thoughts and suggestions will be handy, but please don't be too harsh!

    @emhoy · 14/03/2016 at 12:21

I have decided to go with Lids over martin as well, with the tigers needing to start well I think Lids will step up and he is more consistent than Martin. I reckon we can get martin for around 450K later.

      Tiges · 14/03/2016 at 12:44

Defence looks solid, as much as the defence rookies won't produce consistent scores this year I think having Weitering/Dea on field you'll be alright. I don't think Bartel will be a top six defender this year IMO, better options out there.

All your other lines look solid as, can't point out any negatives in them mate. Good luck in cracking the top 1k this year

        Ben · 14/03/2016 at 13:41

Cheers Tiges, any other options instead of Bartel, who do you reckon?
Bartel was probabaly my biggest worry in the whole team

          Zac · 14/03/2016 at 18:36

Bartel for me is a huge lock. Been flagged for more mid time this year and was still pumping out 100's when he did come back from injury!

    Harley · 14/03/2016 at 13:15

Team looks great but to me looks like your about 1 million over budget there. Can't see how you managed to fit all those top end players in?

If you did great, just curious

      Ben · 14/03/2016 at 13:40

      1k left 🙂

    @footy_bec · 14/03/2016 at 13:36

Looks solid but B.Crouch I heard on the radio this morning may not play round 1. Speculation but keep in mind.

      Benjamima Puddleduck · 14/03/2016 at 17:24

Ill take BCrouch even if he doesnt play Rnd 1, im ok for him to warm the bench for a game.

    Shake n bake · 14/03/2016 at 14:34

If B Crouch is named rd1 he's in my team to.

    Zac · 14/03/2016 at 18:34

LOVE your team, very… very similar to mine… 2 players different are salem for shaw in the backline as im a mad melbourne supporter and i expect him to reach premo this year and want to get shaw cheaper. I have Gawn instead of Martin, Viney instead of David and, Sam Gray instead of Lids. Lids will be one i expect to drop too

      Hondo · 16/03/2016 at 03:33

Who is this "David". Can't fine it as. Last name…cheers..:)

        Ben · 16/03/2016 at 16:16

        Davis sorry

    abel · 14/03/2016 at 18:49

Now that's a bloody nice ream Ben. Love that the onfield rookies look to be strong scorers. It looks like you may have dropped a mid prem for strong rookie (compared to many other shown teams holding 5 super premiums). The balance and scoring potential this has created is great. I'm gonna have a look at this for my team. I've decided against Bartel this year. Favouring JJ instead at the moment. He took Yeo's spot based on nab form. Be nice to have a talented eagle onboard…but i digress. Houli is another option. May need to go Martin to Gawn to achieve upgrade, but he may reap some early rewards with grigg and conca out for a few. Anyway thanks for sharing and all the best this year

    Dean · 14/03/2016 at 23:58

Your team may look good at first glance but after dissecting your team a little it looks like a disaster as you have to many mid & high priced rookies such as: Weitering 220k, Dea 183k, Hall 428k, Crouch 306, Mills 211k, B Kennedy 187k, Wells 243k, Milera 175k, Menadue 155k

Out of all those I can understand having Mills, Wells & Dea to a lesser digree but thats max.
Having all these will impact your cash generation to upgrade later big time, not to mention 50% of them will lose you cash as proven in the past.

Lastly I cannot understand why you chose B Kennedy over Gresham, the guy is 44k cheaper and a lock IMO.

If your mid priced players & high priced rookies all fire you will WIN the $50k, but the risk is high & it takes balls of steel to go with this many high priced players, its never worked in the past but you never know. Good luck mate.

      Dean · 14/03/2016 at 23:59

Oh and Hall I can understand.

      Ben · 15/03/2016 at 08:21

That is fair to indicate that i do have a lot ot mid price players. They are all chosen on performance based reasons. Regarding rookies costing 150-200k. Its really not a risk picking them. It is actually easier to upgrade an elevated in price rookiess they are already worth more.
I havent seen much off gresham, he scored poorly in the Nab, would of loved to see him vs brisbane :/

Falcon · 14/03/2016 at 12:13

Put my team together and would love some feedback

Laird docherty hurn dea brown hartley – broad adams

Danger ablett priddis gray ward shiel libba mills – petracca Mathieson davis

Nicnat gawn – wyatt

Barlow green hall wells milera kerridge – grimley tippa (ess)

Josh · 14/03/2016 at 12:18

Thoughts guys ??

Shaw, docherty, Birchall
Weitering, dea, brown

Bonner, Hartley

Ablett, Pendlebury, rocklciff, Shiel
Cripps, Libba, mills, Oliver

Cunningham, Mathieson, Clarke

Martin, Nic Nat

Lids, Barlow, gray
Wells, b. Kennedy, kerridge

Petracca, grimely

    Pete · 15/03/2016 at 13:07

    Really like your team Josh!
Only adjustments worth contemplating is having 3 essendon backmen. Maybe take out Hartley or Brown for a Rugges from Geelong & in the midfield the quartet of Rocky/Shiel/Cripps/libba. That four players probably needs a little less risk but if it comes off you will be laughing.
    Everything else solid brother

Dave · 14/03/2016 at 12:21

An unbelievable resource. WOW! Thank You!

SC_Beast · 14/03/2016 at 12:23

Mathieson has in fact got a broken cheek bone

@emhoy · 14/03/2016 at 12:27

Ok this is my latest team and yes I have decided not to go with Libba so I can generate the most cash with the best rookies across all lines. Added bonus is the DPP links which is not on purpose just how the rookies played out. Would love some feedback.

B. Houli, R. Laird, J. Lonegarn, J. Weitering, M. Dea M. Hartley (broad,Adams)

Fyfe, P. Dangerfield, S. Pendlebury, G. Ablett, D. Hannebery, Mills, Oliver, Davis (Menadue,Gresham,Petrraca)

Goldy, Gawn

Lids, M. Barlow, Hall , Wells, Kennedy S. Kerridge (McCarthy, Tippa)

    SC_Beast · 14/03/2016 at 12:31

Exactly my thoughts, I have been playing around with my structure, and by using the extra money from Libba to Oliver, I can use it to strengthen other lines. seems to have worked well for your team as well!

    @footy_bec · 14/03/2016 at 13:08

Looks pretty good to me also. I think a rookie will make more than Libba too. Davis not elevated yet though?

    Ben · 14/03/2016 at 13:43

Don't be persuaded to much by NAB performaces regarding LIbba

      @emhoy · 14/03/2016 at 14:40

Its more to do with my structure than form, I don't consider Libba top 8 mid so would rather get in a rookie and look to upgrade to a fallen premium later in year. If you consider Libba top 8 mid then yeah lock him in.

    Danners · 15/03/2016 at 10:43

I am surprised you don't consider Libba a keeper. Did average 110 in 2014. Otherwise, a different team, defence needs a bit of work, either Lonergan/Weitering should be upgraded. Both are alright midpricers but your defence might not score too well early

azza · 14/03/2016 at 12:29

c.ward or d.shiel?
and why?

    SC_Beast · 14/03/2016 at 12:32

Ward – Super consistent, not likely to get the tag, never misses games you know you will always get that 110 score from him, plays in the guts and off the half back and gets contested and uncontested possessions.

      azza · 14/03/2016 at 12:35

      My thoughts exactly. Thanks beast!

    Nars · 14/03/2016 at 13:37

Shiel. He will explode this year

    DadSmasher · 14/03/2016 at 13:46

Ward for the reasons that SCB gave plus, Shiel has the misfortune of regularly missing games through injury

    Redgumwon · 14/03/2016 at 14:37

Can we have both Ward and Shiel in our midfields? I've heard Sarah mention Ward as POD and I'm a little worried that Rocky is under done fitness wise not having played a NAB Challenge game

    Danners · 15/03/2016 at 10:44

Tough call, but Ward as he can handle a tag better and has shown he is a consistent scorer

Connor · 14/03/2016 at 12:30

Alright guys, I'm pretty happy with the team I have built here. I am a bit unsure about the amount of cash sitting on the bench in places but I've got 11 days to figure that one out. RIP IT TO SHREDS FELLAS

    @footy_bec · 14/03/2016 at 14:32

I'm not sold on KK but many are. Looks good, although not a lot of POD. But that might sit fine with you!

    Bongwaterbrawlers · 14/03/2016 at 20:08

Im not sold Kk either, swap Kk to JJ and free up some cash for first trade.
Love the mills and oliver selection, i want both but may only go with one, as i'd much prefer crouch.
    Very solid side mate.

      Swordfish mate

Tiges · 14/03/2016 at 12:39

Here's V42, any constructive criticism would be appreciated.
I've had to download my F4 (Dalhaus) to a rookie to get another cash generation in to get the better rookies (Dea, Kennedy, Oliver) who are ensured best 22 every week IMO. I've also managed to upgrade Martin to Goldy. Believe my ruck setup will both be the number #1 and #2 scorers this season.

Laird, Simpson, Murphy, Gibson, Dea, Brown (Hartley, Adams)

Ablett, Dangerfield, Rockcliff, Parker, Libba, Wells, Mills, Oliver (Menaude, Gore, Mathieson)

Goldy, Gawn, (Chol)

Dusty, Zorko, Barlow, Kennedy, Kerridge, Kommer (McCarthy, Tippa)

    neil · 14/03/2016 at 13:57

no Fyfe the adams pick is great don't think hes ready nor will he play much but better pick than Collins imo great squad

FistingAction · 14/03/2016 at 12:46

Great tool! Still waiting to see who's selected and who's fit. Lot's can happen in two weeks when it comes to pre seasons.
My team is locked in at this for now, Rookies yet to be picked.

DEF: Shaw, Rance, Laird, Rookie, Rookie, Rookie (Rookie, Rookie)
MID: Danger, Hanah's Berries, Priddis, Neale, Rockliff, Parker, Lib, Rookie (Rookie, Rookie)
Ruck: Nicanata, GAAWN (Dual eligible Rookie)
FWD: Barlow, Kennedy, Steele, Wells, Rookie, Rookie (Rookie, Rookie)

With the spots left to fill and cash remaining I can afford to spend an avg of $130k per rookie which will be more than enough. Also planning to have enough in the bank to go Neale > Ablett in case he comes out firing.

What do we think community? Am i a mad man?

    @footy_bec · 14/03/2016 at 13:33

Some of the best rookies this year are over $130k. Something to consider. Not sold on Steele but rest look ok.

      FistingAction · 14/03/2016 at 13:53

Absolutely agree. The average needs to be 130, meaning I can get the 150 rookies as long as i balance it with the 117 rookies. Easily done

    DadSmasher · 14/03/2016 at 13:42

I reckon you're mad for leaving out Kerridge

      FistingAction · 14/03/2016 at 13:53

Kerridge will almost certainly be in my team provided he is picked round 1 which he should be

        DadSmasher · 14/03/2016 at 14:45

My oversight he was obviously accounted for by one of your 'rookie'

Krups · 14/03/2016 at 12:58

Never put a team on here so please give advice. Thanks.

DEF: Shaw, Laird, JJ,Weiterling,Brown,Hartley (Collins & Ruggles

MID: Fyfe,Dangerfield,Ablett,Shiel,Rockliff,Libba,Mills,Oliver (Menadue,Gresham,Dunkley)

FWD: Zorko,Barlow,Hall,Wells,Gault,Kerridge ( Petracca & AMT)

    @footy_bec · 14/03/2016 at 13:32

Looks good, similar to a lot of teams. Zorko to watch as he may get suspended.

      Krups · 14/03/2016 at 13:57

Thanks. Dont think I have to much $$$ on MID bench?

        @footy_bec · 14/03/2016 at 14:25

The point is for them to make money, so it is important they play. No point spending 102k on a non player.

rowdz · 14/03/2016 at 13:00

Great work Barron
Anyone think that Hewett from Sydney makes best 22

    Mike · 14/03/2016 at 14:19

If he has some speed he's a real chance. Anyone know if he's quick?
We all need a cheap mid now that Cameron took out Mathieson.

      Steeeve · 15/03/2016 at 12:50

Not blistering fast but up to the pace of the game. I expect him to be on the bubble about mid season. Can play forward which will help because he's only a skinny lad still and the Swans midfield is loaded.

    Danners · 15/03/2016 at 10:45

Was a emergency many times last year, should get a few games but I'm not sure when

SC_Beast · 14/03/2016 at 13:10

Happy Birthday to Higgo!

Scrad · 14/03/2016 at 13:20

what do you think of patrick cripps. can he pump out scores of 100-110 each week..? I believe he can, but with other options such as Luke parker and Joel Selwood. Im not sold on him..

    SC_Beast · 14/03/2016 at 13:24

Yes he will definitely score 100's

Scrad · 14/03/2016 at 13:29

KK or Laird

    @footy_bec · 14/03/2016 at 13:31

I think Laird will have a great season.

      Scrad · 14/03/2016 at 13:33

im thinking laird is the better option, less of a chance to spud up maybe

    Steeeve · 15/03/2016 at 12:50

Both for me, the more who jump off KK the better

DadSmasher · 14/03/2016 at 13:40

Brilliant Thanks.
Hewett looks good value. Can anybody give a bit of info on him?

    kid · 14/03/2016 at 13:42

doubt he will break into the sydney side.. maybe after an injury

      Leeds17 · 14/03/2016 at 17:00

Surely they need to be playing these kids they stagnated last season

    Steeeve · 14/03/2016 at 22:09

He seems ready but such a strong side for a midfielder/flanker to break into. If he can't get a run this year and winds up somewhere else will be an absolute lock. This season? Probably one to jump on when he gets on the bubble later on.

      DadSmasher · 15/03/2016 at 10:56

      Thanks steeve

    DadSmasher · 15/03/2016 at 11:24

I did a bit of digging myself Apparently he's an inside midfielder and Sydney have a lot of them, what the swans need is an outside runner to replace Jetta.
Digging deeper hewett was interviewed by 10 different clubs at his draft combine, is almost ambidextrous and racked up 30plus pozzy's a few times last year in the neafl. If he's named early I'll give a seat on the pine

      Steeeve · 15/03/2016 at 12:53

Ability to kick goals as shown in nab will help his chances. Not big enough to play inside midfield at afl level yet and the Swans are loaded with those extractors. Third year and he was emergency plenty in his first season as well as last year. That's despite his first preseason being injury interrupted. Watch list for sure.

I N Pieman · 14/03/2016 at 13:41

The Jeremy Cameron sentence: 2 for the bump & 4 extra for taking out the only mid rook sub 150k that looked like he should get a gig & have some job security for a while

The_Black_Mamba · 14/03/2016 at 13:45

Cockadoodledoooooo my latest team is here. Would love thoughts and constructive comments.
DEF: Shaw, Simpson, Bartel, Weitering, Hartley, Brown

MID:Fyfe, Danger, Pendles, Shiel, Rockliff, Cripps, Libba, Mills/// Gore, Matthieson, Macpherson

Ruck: Gawn, Z.Smith/// Wyatt

Forward: Barlow, Greene, Hall, Wells, Mccarthy, Kerridge// Grimley, Petracca

    DadSmasher · 14/03/2016 at 13:52

Great team could only be better with wells at M5 instead of 4

      The_Black_Mamba · 14/03/2016 at 13:54

What would you recommend changing? Have 30k left in the kitty.

        Redgumwon · 14/03/2016 at 13:59

maybe Matthieson he's got a fractured cheek bone from the Cameron hit. Will have an op maybe tonight and will miss 2 or more weeks

        DadSmasher · 14/03/2016 at 14:44

That's a real tough question and I got my alphabet wrong in the first reply. With only 30K left it would require a few changes to get wells to F5 I seriously considering taking a punt on Garlett at F4, I think he can make Carlton supporters cry just a little bit harder by having a Betts type breakout (reasons are in Melb game summary) he certainly wont do any worse than chopstix over the first 5 and if he does as well as I reckon he will I might be able to swap him for choppy at bye time.

          The_Black_Mamba · 14/03/2016 at 15:13

          What is your current team?

            DadSmasher · 14/03/2016 at 16:52

It's in a fluid state at the moment Mamba but I'm trying to structure so that I have a minimum 12 premos for each bye, obviously that means trading up a few donkeys to thoroughbreds

    Redgumwon · 14/03/2016 at 14:01

You might also need two more on the bench in the back line 🙂

      The_Black_Mamba · 14/03/2016 at 14:05

Sorry mate, I have collins and ruggles on the bench

        Redgumwon · 14/03/2016 at 14:05

I like Ruggles and good value if they upgrade him to the main list.

Maybe Blicav to Nic Nat. I'm just not sure Blicav will a role this year allowing him to score as high as last year?

      Ethan · 14/03/2016 at 17:12

My thinking with the blicavs move is that i can swing him into the mid late season and pick up goldy

        Redgumwon · 14/03/2016 at 18:43

Cool that's fair enough. I'm just worried Blicav's not going to score as high as he did last year and might not be in the top 8 mids. If he goes to your bench then you'll have to much cash sitting on the pine?

Redgumwon · 14/03/2016 at 14:12

I've had Rocky in the side since day 1. A fallen premium from injury last year and a gun player. Trouble is I'm having doubts now on Rocky. He's not played a NAB Challenge game having missed the last one due to hamstring tightness. I'd love to know what the rest of you guys are thinking in regards to Rocky and who you might think might be a better option.

    Redgumwon · 14/03/2016 at 14:20

I thought I'd put my latest team up for feedback

Backs: Shaw, Laird, Bartel, Dea, Brown, Hartley, Broad, Adams
Mids: Fyfe, Danger, Gaz, Shiel, Rocky, Libba, Mills, Oliver, Petracca, Maithieson, Davis. Maithieson is now injured and will need replacing & I will have to wait and see on Patracca. Davis needs to be elevated off the rookie list.
    Rucks: Nic Nat, Gawn, Grimley
Forwards: Dusty, Barlow, Greene, Wells, Kennedy (Melb) Kerridge, Kommer, Tippa. Tippa will need to get off the rookie list

    Booma · 14/03/2016 at 15:12

Couple of hamstring issues for Rocky over the break. Yes he's running unders but i think a little underdone as well. Consider Ward, Cripps, Shiel, Sidebum, Gaff.

      Redgumwon · 14/03/2016 at 15:18

Thanks Booma I was thinking the same. I've got Shiel in the side now. I was toying with going with Ward as Sarah has pointed out he's very reliable and can be a good POD player. Then there is the guys you've mentioned and Parker & Wines. Maybe I can down grade Jimmy Bartel for a Sheridan or Lonergran and get the cash to upgrade to Priddis?

      Zambo · 15/03/2016 at 17:11

Rocky doesn't run fast enough to risk pinging a 'string, he'll be fine

    Nars · 14/03/2016 at 16:06

Hes priced at 101 but should average over 120. I advise you not to miss the boat

      Beagz · 14/03/2016 at 20:35

But is it worth having a guy that averages 115 for 10 games?

Average Joe · 14/03/2016 at 14:27

Best trade:

Shiel to Fyfe
Mills to B Crouch
S Gray to D Martin
Hall to Bennell

    Average Joe · 14/03/2016 at 14:28

    And JJ to Laird

      I N Pieman · 14/03/2016 at 15:43

Sheil to Fyfe Yes No reason required
Mills to Crouch No. Neither are keepers & Mills will make more money & more likely to play 2 weeks in a row
S Gray to Dusty: Good dusty is brilliant. Who knows which one plays this year. Tough call. Like Gray. Lineball call
Hall to Bennell: If Bennell has a full preseason for sure. Still think Hall requires a trade at some point. Not going near either
JJ to Laird: Is the winner here. Just think that makes the most sense. Think teams will target JJ & he wont be hard to spot

Knackerbags · 14/03/2016 at 14:36

Great stuff By the Baron. It gives us all a little more to go on. However I agree with many others in the Community, it's a very tough year for picking rookies. You just cant load up on Essendon players. 2 or 3 max.
My team has changed again, always ready for comments.

Backs: Shaw, Birchall, Sheridan, Lonergan (GC), Brown, Collins and on the bench Hartley& Broad (or Adams WB if upgraded)

Mids: Danger, Ablett, Fyfe, Rockliff, Libber, Mills, Oliver (impressive), Menadue and Bench is Petracca, Mathieson and Hibberd (NM)

Rucks: Martin and Gawn Bench Chol

Forwards: Martin, Zorko, Barlow, Steele (GWS) , Wells, Kerridge and on the Bench: Paply (SS) and Grimley

I have $184,500 in the Bank. Comments PLEASE

    Kev · 14/03/2016 at 14:56

184k is too much to have in the bank. Maybe turn one of Sheridan, Lonergan, or Steele into a keeper.

Adams is already on the senior list

      Knackerbags · 14/03/2016 at 16:02

Paply out and Adams into the forward line.
Steele looks as of he will get time in the midfield and so does Lonergan for the Suns. That leaves Sheridan??
Many in the Community rate him highly. If I take him out that leaves me $528,200 to spend. I think Rich will be in the midfield all year and he is DPP or I can get Rance and/anyone below him?????

I think he is better value than weitering

    WoodySpoon · 14/03/2016 at 20:42

Only if you like the idea of raising money to upgrade to premiums.

    Danners · 15/03/2016 at 10:47

No, won't average as well as he did in the NAB challenge

    DadSmasher · 15/03/2016 at 11:12

Tough one Azza Wietering has never played the real stuff and Dea couldn't make it at the tigers
Wietering is more likely to hold his place for the whole season but he might be susceptible to injury like a lot of gangly rookies. Dea is obviously a harder body that's more used to the physicality of AFL football but he could make way later for rooks who are valuable to the clubs future.
Wietering's extra price means that he'll be easier to swap before price changes if he bombs or breaks.
If wietering is your D4 Dea is a good D5 at this stage.

Michael · 14/03/2016 at 14:58

DEF: Shaw, Laird, KK, Dea, Hartley, Broad (AMT, M.Brown)

MID: Fyfe, Dangerfield, Hannebery, Sidebottom, Shiel, Libba, Mills, Oliver (B.Kennedy, Petracca, Keays)

RUCK: Gawn, Z.Smith (Cox)

FWD: Martin, Wingard, Barlow, Wells, Menadue, Kerridge (Grimley, McCarthy)

Nathan · 14/03/2016 at 15:00

Hey Community – what's your thoughts on this side, I know its skinny in the forward line but there is a lot of value there I believe

DEF: H.Shaw, R. Laird, J. Gibson, L. Mcdonald, J. Weitering, M. Dea (K. Collins, A. McDonald-Tipungwuti)

MID : N. Fyfe, P. Dangerfield, G. Abblett, T. Rockcliff, L.Parker, O. Wines, T. Liberatore, C. Mills (Gore, Hewett, Davis)

Ruck, Goldstien, Gawn

Forwards: Barlow, Wells, B. Kennedy, W. Milera, C. Menadue, S. Kerridge (Petrecca, McCarthy)

its the best I could come up with that gives a decent spread of talent that will also generate cash. Thoughts?

    Booma · 14/03/2016 at 15:39

With how skinny your FWD line is i would want more premiums in the MID. You're banking on a few too many mid pricers to have BIG seasons. But if it pays off you'll be laughing

      Nathan · 14/03/2016 at 15:55

Thanks Mate, with the rookies at basement prices (102K) extremely hard to come by (then they have to score), I think you will find most teams running around with 11-12 MAYBE 13 Premo's because you have to pay extra for quality scoring rookies that have job security.
I can count 11 keepers in my side with wines, Parker, Libba all potentially have really good seasons (wont be a disaster).
so I think I have really strong defence (Luke Mcdonald is my breakout)
      strong Middle
      Extremely strong rucks
Average FWD with a potential strategy that could breakout for me.

I with you Booma, lets hope it pays off!!!

        Tiges · 14/03/2016 at 16:53

As crazy as your team structure is, I actually don't mind it at all. I think getting rid of Parker would be a good move though, getting sucked into the trap. JPK/Parker/Haneberry all getting rotated around the forward line, all taking possessions off each other like last year… Pass. Not enough reward for risk.

        Tiges · 14/03/2016 at 16:54

Also trade out Hewett for Gresham, trade out Gore, swap Menaude into your mids and then get Mitch Brown so you have a FWD/DEF swing for early trades between him and Tippa.

Hewett and Gore both won't play early

          Nathan · 14/03/2016 at 17:42

          Great call mate, will do

        Benjamima Puddleduck · 14/03/2016 at 19:42

        Liking this side very much.
I count 12 Possible Premos in your side, which is solid.
All sides are going to get hurt somewhere by rookies.
Only thing i caution is what if a couple to many of those fwd rooks get laid of early.

          Nathan · 14/03/2016 at 20:44

That's the risk I have to take mate- willing to go there though- thinking it will either ruin my season or I will go straight to the top

George · 14/03/2016 at 15:02

Is it worth downgrading a midpricer in the fwd line to a rookie to enable me to get the better rookie players? Currently have De Goey F3 and Wells F4, but if I swap de goey with Ben Kennedy I would be able to go after McCarthy, Menadue and Gresham. The only rookies over the standard 123/117k that I have are Weitering, Dea, Mills and Kerridge.
Rookies currently are:
Weitering, Dea, Hartley, Brown, Ruggles
Mills, Petracca, Mathieson, Davis
Kerridge, Adams, AMT, Grimely

    Booma · 14/03/2016 at 15:41

I like Oliver over B. Kennedy

Either one, however Kennedy has dual status and is a reasonable f5 or 6.

    DadSmasher · 14/03/2016 at 17:27

Hi George, I had a similar dilemma so I downgraded Mills and moved Barlow into the middle. My current Fwd is Robbo, Greene, Hall, Wells, Kennedy, Kerridge and I have Libba as M8. But I'm keen on getting Jeff Garlett so I might drop greene move Barlow back to fwd and put Kerridge at M8. aaarrrrgggghhhhh

    Derek · 14/03/2016 at 18:44

Starting players are either Keepers or cash creators.

Dasha · 14/03/2016 at 15:04

excellent spreadsheet barron, would love some thoughts and criticism on my team community, dont hold back

    Kev · 14/03/2016 at 16:37

Good spread, dasha. Hoping Wingard gets midfield minutes or you relying on him to kick a few each week?

You are lousy in bed and your breath smells of elderberries.

Sarah · 14/03/2016 at 15:05

Curious how anyone can have a 'set n forget' ruck combination without Goldstein? I'll be shocked if he isn't the number 1 ruck again (both average and total score) and there's no way of trading him into your team. If he's too expensive for you, you'll be better off starting with a mid-price to upgrade to him not 2 premiums.

    Chill · 14/03/2016 at 15:11

You can have a set and forget ruck combo without the best ruckman. It's not like successful supercoachers have the top 8 mids by the end of the year. They usually have 8 of the top 15 or so mids. I think the same can happen for rucks. Pick 2nd and 3rd best rucks. Lock them in. Focus $$ elsewhere. It is possible.

      Sarah · 14/03/2016 at 15:50

Using last year's stats, Goldstein was a clear number 1 ruck and there's no reason that he can't back it up, averaging 18 more points than the next best and 438 more than the 2nd best over the season.

The difference in picking Jacobs over Goldstein last year would have been roughly the same as picking Boak over Pendlebury or Taylor Adams over Fyfe.

The points lost, you would've needed an almost a perfect team to make it up.

        Sarah · 14/03/2016 at 15:55

Meant to say Ebert not Boak

        Sam · 14/03/2016 at 15:56

Wise words Sarah. The extra $100K would be useful for my forward six, but I'm sticking with Goldy and NitNat.

        Paul · 14/03/2016 at 16:02

That's true, but at his price if he has 1 bad game/knock to the head/hamstring tightness/shoulder knock/etc and his price will plummet.

On top of that, Goldstein's first 4 games will be against Jacobs, Martin, Gawn and Sandilands. That's 4 tough games in a row, so it's not out of the question that his output will be significantly lower than his average from last year even without an injury over those 4 games, which could drop his value significantly as well.

          Sarah · 14/03/2016 at 16:20

          Very good point:
          Goldstein vs Jacobs: 100
          Sandilands: 80
          Gawn: 155
Martin 140.5 [Leunberger played both games]

He still averaged 116 for the 6 games when he played against those 4 ruck, but with those games earlier in the season, would you have the money to pick him up when all the rookies aren't at max price. From rounds 5-13, he does not play an elite ruck so when his price and average both increase, it'll be hard to trade for him.

Injuries can happen to anyone, anytime. It's a risk for all players. Goldstein's healthy at the moment and has played 20+ games in the last 6 seasons.

            George · 14/03/2016 at 16:25

I know he is the best, I currently have Goldstein in as R1, but is he worth 700k? Would it be wiser to leave him out altogether, instead choosing Martin/Jacobs/NicNat to save 100k? How many points do you believe he will average more than the next best?

            Chill · 14/03/2016 at 16:39

Sarah – do you have the same argument for Shaw? Just interested..

              Sarah · 14/03/2016 at 17:01

Like Goldstein, I think Shaw's a must have but very tentatively and I can understand people not picking him.

In the last 8 seasons, Shaw has only played 20 or more games once which was last year (all 22). My main concern is not his output but how many games he'll play.

Average wise, Shaw will be the top defender, I can't see anyone who can challenge him. It won't surprise me if he's 10 points better than the next best. Total points, I have no idea who will be the best. Popular picks from reading teams such as Laird, Bartel, Birchall, KK, JJ, Gibson, SImpson, Rance, Houli etc. I can make a good case not to pick them and the cons outweigh the pro's.
Even though Shaw is peak priced, there's no one to replace him at D1 so i'm willing to risk and hope he doesn't miss many games.

                Chill · 14/03/2016 at 17:51

So with Shaw and Goldy of your lines must be looking a little lean. I mean compared to others who are loading up their mids etc. how are you combatting that? Mid pricers or hoping that the rookies pull through?

              Tylo · 14/03/2016 at 22:11

The difference is if you don't start with Shaw it's not likely you would be starting with 6 backline keepers. You don't set and forget your whole backline

          Kev · 14/03/2016 at 16:35

Goldy logged one bad game last year, 44 in round 8. His price at that time was 571k. By the time it was out of his 3 week rolling average, he was 512k. A "plummet" of 59k.

I didn't have Goldy at all last year and had the exact same reasoning I'm reading now: too expensive, I'll pick him up after his price drops. I was right on the latter, but SC ruins even the best laid plans. You will have more pressing problems to deal with. Pay the price now, look for value elsewhere

            TRIGGER HAPPY · 14/03/2016 at 18:06

That 44 was because he got a kick in the face. Unlikely to happen again.

        Booma · 14/03/2016 at 18:53

I have Goldy in atm, but still subject to change.. It's funny that we will happily fork out $700K for an Ablett or Fyfe but not for a ruck man that has just as high average point per game..

          @Nars76 · 14/03/2016 at 20:24

Ablett has always been a must have. Goldy in the same boat

      Derek · 14/03/2016 at 18:48

No. The top players have the best 8 at the end of the year.

That is why you MUST make cash early. If you stuff around with mid pricers who score ok, your rank will look good until about week 10.

    Booma · 14/03/2016 at 15:46

I agree with Chill, the $ saved by not having Goldy can upgrade a player elsewhere to gain the missed points. However if you are captaining Goldy then that is an extra 50-60 points you need to come up with from the other upgraded player/ players. Both plans have merit.

    I N Pieman · 14/03/2016 at 15:52

I agree Sarah. If you going set & forget Goldy is a must. He is a must at some point & trying to get blokes in at 600k+ is bloody tough. I can understand the Mid pricer to try to get up to him. But it doesn't always work. You may find you need 200k plus to get him. That money could be used for to 2 upgrades. He's also good for captain scores against weaker rucks

      Benjamima Puddleduck · 14/03/2016 at 16:11

Sorry can someone remind me how many years its been since the No. 1 ruckman has backed up the following year to be No.1 again? Ive forgotten..
Im not saying he wont back it up and im not saying he will.

I think there are better value options than spending $700k on the Giant.

Does anyone think the new interchange rule will have a effect on the output of the rucks?? more point/less points??

        Derek · 14/03/2016 at 18:55

I'm with Ben. Not sure what the interchange rule will have but more so the sub vest change. Until the season starts I'm not sure

        hedski · 14/03/2016 at 19:14

I don't think it will affect the likes of goldy who will just run all game puddles

    TRIGGER HAPPY · 14/03/2016 at 17:59

Hey Sarah i am looking at taking a bit of a different tact with my rucks. Probably going to start gawn and nic nat. The cash saved in going down to nic nat from goldy allows me to upgrade to priddus in my mids and shaw in def. Then around rd 7 i plan to upgrade whichever ruck has scored less probably nic nat to goldy. The difference i am hoping to upgrade will be about $100k and one of my rooks should have gone up by that much by then. This plans gives me:

Fyfe, danger, ablett, priddus, gray, rocky and libba as starting mids which should account for the difference in point from goldy to nic nat.

      Chill · 14/03/2016 at 18:30

I'm going the same route Trigger. I have faith.

      Bottoms blues · 14/03/2016 at 20:41

So if neither of the 3 players drop in price/drop very little, you'll be wasting 2 trades to get goldy into your team?
      1 trade downgrading a player
2nd trade, trading your already premo ruckman for an extra 10-30 points per round give or take?

        TRIGGER HAPPY · 14/03/2016 at 21:01

I wouldn't call it wasting. If i get two more premos that i would have to trade into my team anyway and the trade down from a rookie to a rookie would have been done anyway then i am only technically using one trade to go from nic nat to goldy whereas i would have had to use 2 trades to get priddus and shaw from a mid pricer.

    Matt · 14/03/2016 at 19:13

Hi Sarah, who would you pick out of Parker, wines, Shiel and Cripps? Having a tough time deciding between them

      Sarah · 14/03/2016 at 21:28

You can't go wrong with any of them. I like Shiel the most, Parker the least out of the 4

You beat me to it Pieman.

I love Sam. But he has had 30+ over 100 times but 40+ once. When the job is done he sits down and instead of turning his 110 3/4 time score into 150, he rests.

If you read the intro it's tomorrow as the boys have gone fishing for swordfish

Benjamima Puddleduck · 14/03/2016 at 16:25

This is the best week for seeing how peoples teams are forming up, and how much teams evolved over the three weeks just past. I love seeing less cookie cutter teams rolling around and slightly different set ups coming through!

How many 'keepers' should we be aiming to have in our starting line up?

Why did Ablett and Rockcliff have to miss the entire preseason! Why did they have to be put at a sexy price too.
How many are nervous about putting them in??

I think we should be able to slot Selwood in there too with the sexy price and no preseason champion.

Wells Wells Wells… think he might turn into the Lumumba trap from last year?
The nightmares!

A question or thought that doesnt get thrown around too much, who is thinking about what players are going to pick up DPP mid year? Swan/Gray/Hodge/JPK/Rockliff???

So much still to consider.

    Fox · 14/03/2016 at 16:35

        Benjamima Puddleduck · 14/03/2016 at 17:49

I was certain SC did last year.. I must be losing my mind!

    Tiges · 14/03/2016 at 17:00

I'd say most teams should be aiming for 14 keepers. I had 15 until the amount of cheap rookies who looked decent started to drastically deteriorate. Downgraded Dalhaus so I could afford the Oliver/Dea/Kennedy types.

      Benjamima Puddleduck · 14/03/2016 at 19:32

Ouch, im at 10 could work out to be 11/12 with wishful thinking.

    Booma · 14/03/2016 at 18:58

Yep no DPP changes during the year for SC, sorry Duck

    Average Joe · 14/03/2016 at 19:58

The amount of keepers per team depends on your team structure and style. If you are going with midprice madness, you obviously aren't going to have 15 keepers in your team. A good number to aim for is 12, as most teams have mostly guns n rookies with the occasional mid-pricer in there

      Benjamima Puddleduck · 14/03/2016 at 20:49

This is true, its just the rookies this year… the ones likely playing games early and holding a position in the best 22 are so damn expensive.

Libba/Crouch/Hall are mids im starting with and will definitely get traded up at some point.

Im at 11, i didnt count Gawn before. I feel he might get traded up before the seasons end though.

There are so many players this year that could be called 'Keepers' especially through the mids.

      neil · 14/03/2016 at 21:16

does that mean 20 trades to full premium…i.e 22less your 12prems by 2 trades each no IMO you need 13

        Benjamima Puddleduck · 14/03/2016 at 21:45

Not quite, the few mid pricers will be a direct trade to a fallen premo.
another 6 trades to other rooks and 6 trades to premos.
        So roughly 16.
14 trades to fix up injury and my dodgy selection of players =D

Paul · 14/03/2016 at 16:33

Which team is better?

Team 1:

Shaw, Laird, JJ, Weitering, Brown, Hartley, Collins, Adams
Fyfe, Danger, Pendles, Priddis, Gray, Mills, Oliver, Petracca, Mathieson, Davis
Goldstien, Gawn, Cox
Martin, Barlow, Hall, Wells, Kennedy, Kerridge, Grimley, Tipunwunti

Team 2:

Shaw, Gibson, JJ, Weitering, Brown Hartley – rookies
Fyfe, Danger, Pendles, Ablett, Priddis, M.Crouch, Libba, Parish – rookies
Gawn, Z.Smith – rookies
Martin, Barlow, Hall, Wells, Menadue, Kerridge – rookies

    nickv · 14/03/2016 at 16:38

team 1 is the exact same as my team exept for one player…

    SC_Beast · 14/03/2016 at 16:47

    Practically is
    Laird vs Gibson
    Mills vs Libba
    Oliver vs M.Crouch
    Goldy vs Smith
    Gray vs Ablett
Team 1 is guns and rookies with the use of Mills and Oliver as cash cows. Team 2 has M.Crouch and Libba which are stepping stones, but won't make as much cash. If you want Crouch, I suggest going Brad Crouch. I prefer Laird to Gibo, as he won't be playing that lose man role this year with Lake retiring and I like Goldy better than Smith just by a little… – set and forget ruck. Team 2 has Gaz, and we all know what he is capable of. Gray is no doubt a gun, but a fit Gaz is no match although Gaz is in a race for round 1.

    Hope this helps.

    Tiges · 14/03/2016 at 17:02

I'm not sure if I missed this abbreviation but who is JJ?
I prefer team one, even without Ablett.
    Goldy's a shoe in.
Don't rate the Hall pick at all, if you weren't considering him pre-NAB, you shouldn't be considering him now.

      SC_Beast · 14/03/2016 at 17:05

      JJ is Johannisen

    Molly m · 14/03/2016 at 17:03

I like the look of team 2

    Bernie · 14/03/2016 at 17:16

Personally like the look of team 2. Midfield is stronger, and i like the risk of crouch and zac smith both have performed well in the nab challenge. Gibson in the backline as well not many people have looked at gibbo but still and elite sc scorer and this nab has looked really solid

      SC_Beast · 14/03/2016 at 17:31

I'm sorry Bernie but I disagree. Gibo will be a KPP for the Hawks whereas Laird provides run and drive off the half back. If you want crouch, get Brad Crouch, just had 40 possessions in a practice game. Goldy is a must IMO. Team 1 is very similar to mine.

    jamesfern · 14/03/2016 at 17:33

Gibson is a solid performer, week in and week out, as he has shown in this NAB cup. Laird for team 1 is a good choice, but is certianly no Gibson on their days. Also questioning weitering who is in both teams, with his job security looking a bit too thin to trust. Both midfields are strong, but I have got to hand it to team 2. Team 2 has a solid midfield consisting of a large amount of premos. Team 1's midfield is also strong but a midfield should be a midfield, minimal POD's who are risky. Ruck contest goes to team 1, marginally. Team 1 has a solid ruck whereas team 2 is lacking a bit. For the fowardline, team 2 is looking to edge it. I don't know the rookies of both teams, but team 1 choosing kerridge and tipunwunti, I'm not sure about that. Overall, team 2 takes the winners choice for me but only just.

Thoughts on team

Laird, Simpson, Kolo, Weitering, Dea, Collins (Brown, Hartley)
Fyfe, Pendlebury, Ablett, Shiel, Rockliff, Liberatore, Mills, Kennedy (Gresham, Keays, Davis)
Goldstein, Gawn (Chol)
Wingard, Barlow, Hall, Wells, Kerridge, Menadue (Petracca, McDonald Tipungwuti)

$35,800 in the bank

    Tiges · 15/03/2016 at 11:26

Looks pretty solid John, defence and forward bit weak for my liking. Unsure of the defence rookies scoring potential to be able to give you a decent score week in/week out. Midfield and ruck is locked and loaded.

    CoachDamo · 15/03/2016 at 12:29

Rawkus11 · 14/03/2016 at 17:49

Team number 1,722

Mid: Fyfe, Pendles, Gaz, Shiel, Rocky, Libba, Mills, Oliver (Gresham, Keays, Davis)
Ruc: Goldy, Gawn (King)

Like it a lot. Balanced the books well there

Crowmagnon · 14/03/2016 at 17:54

You are a Legend Barron!
Outstanding work.

Norgy · 14/03/2016 at 17:56

Which two out of Dea, Hartley and Brown for Defence.

    Dan · 14/03/2016 at 18:19

    Dea and Hartley

    Bongwaterbrawlers · 14/03/2016 at 20:13

    Dea and Brown.

    Gaveday · 15/03/2016 at 07:20

You could play brown up fwd.

SC_Beast · 14/03/2016 at 18:10

Thoughts community? After this weeks NAB performances, made a few changes:

Heater, Laird, Johannasen, Dea, Brown, Hartley, AMT, Collins
Fyfe, Danger, Ablett, Priddis, Gray, Liberatore, Gresham, Gore, MacPherson, Davis
Goldstein, Gawn, Chol
Chopsticks, Barlow, Hall, Steele, Menadue, Kerridge, Mccarthy, Grimley

8k left in the kitty.

Was consdiering dropping Liberatore but he is too cheap to pass up on. Ablett will turn into Hanners if he doesn't play round 1. Rookies will be selected once round 1 teams come out

    Eric_the_Red · 14/03/2016 at 19:26

No Wells, Beast? I really like Steele, but don't want to miss out if Wells dominates. Overall I really like your team mate. Good luck this year.

      Benjamima Puddleduck · 14/03/2016 at 21:12

I bet Wells points drop like flys once Higgo is playing back in Rnd 1

    Booma · 14/03/2016 at 19:28

Lots of bombers in that back line beast, i'd be hesitant after yesterday drumming.. Think Steele is an interesting choice over Wells. Best of luck this year.

      Redgumwon · 14/03/2016 at 19:53

I don't think they'll be there to long. They look like the money making machine for upgrades. Most will be gone before or during the bye rounds

    Aye · 14/03/2016 at 20:01

What do you think dea will average ?

    Benjamima Puddleduck · 14/03/2016 at 20:54

Im scared for your Bombers team down back.

    magpie4ver · 14/03/2016 at 21:33

I have Dea, M. Brown and Hartley in my D 4, 5, and 6 to……glad to see I'm not the only one not sure if I should but its hard not to based on rookies in the back field?

    Side looks good Mate!

    'Don't Blush Babbie' · 14/03/2016 at 21:36

Priddis in for Rocky, I like it, very consistent that man, always bangs out 100's plus

    'Don't Blush Babbie' · 14/03/2016 at 21:39

How many do you believe are keepers ? 12 -13 ?

      Benjamima Puddleduck · 14/03/2016 at 22:35

      12 if you include JJ

Dan · 14/03/2016 at 18:18

Any Sydeney folk around? Or people in the know, please tell me, will Hewett from the swannies get a game, how many you think and when in the season you think? NAB output is very notable.

    Steeeve · 14/03/2016 at 22:21

Definitely put his hand up, still unlikely for round one at this stage. Proving he can make an impact up forward will have helped his cause. I'm thinking he might be on the bubble around round 8-12

Hawks · 14/03/2016 at 18:22

Doing my first Supercoach draft tonight.
8 team league, 3 x def, 3x mid, 1 x ruck, 3 x fwd, 5 x bench

Any tips which positions I should select first?
Importance of DPP's

    Derek · 14/03/2016 at 19:07

    Shaw or Goldy

    abel · 14/03/2016 at 19:07

Ruck first for me, based on the limited number of high scoring rucks. Order will depend greatly on how each position is scored.

    Phil · 14/03/2016 at 19:38

Try to get a good midfielder early, I'm talking Pendles, Ablett, Fyfe, Danger or Rocky. After them 5 don't bother getting another midfielder till your last pick cos there is so many of them.

      Pete · 15/03/2016 at 23:20

My premiums that im starting with are:
DEF: Laird, R Murphy, Rich I believe will finish top 10 defenders
MID: Fyfe, Danger, Pendles, GAJ, Priddis, Rocky – Also have Libba, cannot count him as a premo, but just hoping he has a season like 2014 then he will be.
      RUCK: Martin, Nit Nat
FWD: Barlow, I wouldn't consider Hall a Premo, but has the potential.

So that gives me 12 Premo's including Rich many will disagree but I'm positive he will play a shit load in the mid especially now with Beams injured.

Big balls · 14/03/2016 at 18:22

Your a legend Barron .

Brett · 14/03/2016 at 18:24

What sort of possible projection figures have people got, out of curiosity ?

    Hawks · 14/03/2016 at 18:29

1816 projected 1st round, but don't really take much notice of it, rarely accurate.

    I N Pieman · 14/03/2016 at 18:34

Projections are irelevant. They calculate rookie scores based on current price. So it's way out. Don't take any notice

Cookie Cutter · 14/03/2016 at 18:52

I swear I'm seeing the exact same team in every comment I scroll past. There's no fun in having the exact same team as everyone else besides maybe 2 players at best. Take some risks and find a few PODs, it will make SuperCoach a whole lot more fun.

    Average Joe · 14/03/2016 at 20:32

People don't just play supercoach for fun. Who doesn't want to win some prizes, beat all your mates and try to be one of the best coaches in Australia (and the rest of the world)

      Cookie Cutter · 14/03/2016 at 21:18

I'm pretty sure the main reason people play SuperCoach is because it's fun. Yes there's prizes involved, but you wont win many prizes if your team is identical to others. You have to take risks, find a couple unique players to put you ahead of the pack. Same goes with beating your mates. You won't be one of the best coaches in Australia if your team is just like the rest of Australia.

abel · 14/03/2016 at 18:54

Love the libba to gray upgrade. Been trying to get him in. I think he's a strong 110 scorer at worst if ports winning. Feel it may be this year he jumps up to the highest level.

Brett · 14/03/2016 at 18:54

Yeh agreed it's going to be way off , just wanted to see some rough numbers !

Team currently

H shaw , rance , jj , weitering , dea , hartley ( Brown ruggles)

Fyfe , ablett , danger , Rocky , crouch x 2 , Libba mills
( marcon , kennedy davis)

Nic nat , gawn (grimley)

Barlow , s gray , hall , de goey , wells , kerridge ( petracca, mc-tip)

Any suggestions ? Thank god for a reserve button

Maybe rance to a mid pricer , cull a crouch and inject another premium mid

    Kev · 14/03/2016 at 19:47

Agree Brett. With both Crouches and Libba in your mids it looks to midpriced

Wouldn't think Marcon will play early

    Dean · 15/03/2016 at 23:27

I only count 9 solid Premo's, I would want 11 minimum. Can't class JJ, Crouch, S Gray & Hall as premo's even though they have the potential to be Premo's.

So that gives me 12 Premo's including Rich many will disagree but I'm positive he will play a shit load in the mid especially now with Beams injured and be a top 10 defender come season end.

Thoughts on Tom Keough?

    Derek · 14/03/2016 at 19:09

Yes. Him and Davis on my bench

    Danners · 15/03/2016 at 10:32

Needs to get upgraded from the rookie list, only one spot left on their list so it is either Davis, Keough, or MacPherson

      Derek · 15/03/2016 at 10:44

i just saw that, i'm keeping davis on bench and brought in Gore for now, who knows until teams are announced.

@RogerRammstein · 14/03/2016 at 19:23

Adrian · 14/03/2016 at 19:26

Any thoughts community?

DEF: Shaw, Laird, Weitering, Dea, Brown, Hartley (Collins, Bonner)
MID: Danger, Pendles, GAJ, Priddis, Rocky, Libba, Mills, Kennedy (Macaffer, Gore, Matheison)
RUCK: Goldy, Martin (Cox)
FWD: Dusty, Barlow, Hall, Wells, Kerridge, Kommer (Ellis, Grimely)

Ledge Reynolds · 14/03/2016 at 19:36

Which midfielder should i pick thats inbetween $500 and $620K thanks

    Cookie Cutter · 14/03/2016 at 19:40

Gaff, Sam Mitchell, Miles. Pick someone you haven't seen in more than 2 teams in this comments section.

    Kev · 14/03/2016 at 19:50

There's probably a dozen blokes you could make a case for. Do a bit of research mate and narrow it down a bit

David · 14/03/2016 at 19:39

Is anyone considering old Stevie J?…..57 points and 3 goals from half a game on the weekend……Think he might have a point to prove to Geelong heir achy for dumping him.

    George · 14/03/2016 at 19:45

He will be rested regularly throughout the season, but he does have a good goal sense and goals = points. If you are game and do take a punt, make sure you have decent bench coverage

      CaPtKaOs · 14/03/2016 at 20:01

more likely to get rested by the mrp

Jobesbrownlow · 14/03/2016 at 20:03

Defenders: Shaw, Boyd, Laird, Weitering, Broad, Adams (K. Collins, McDonald-Tipungwati)

Midfielders: Fyfe, Dangerfield, Ablett, Gray, Liberatore, Mills, Oliver, B. Kennedy (Gresham, Gore, Davis)

Rucks: Goldstein, Gawn (Korcheck)

Forwards: Deledio, Martin, Barlow, Milera, Menadue, Kerridge (McCarthy, Petracca)

Holty · 14/03/2016 at 20:03

noticed there are a few not mentioned on the rookie sheet but not hard to add them to the list. 95% already done. fantastic work barron.

Bongwaterbrawlers · 14/03/2016 at 20:11

couple of questions guys

i want to squeeze both Oliver and mills but feel i may have drop one, But who?

The other is Steele (GWS) or Crows Milera??

    Phil · 14/03/2016 at 21:18

I'd drop Oliver out of the 2. If Oliver is named Round 1 and Petracca and/or Brayshaw are not I'd be extremely nervous about his job security as both of these guys are older than him and higher draft picks. Mills I feel is best 22.

Not sure about the other 1 as Steele is the better player but is also more expensive. I have neither

K.Willy29 · 14/03/2016 at 20:41

any solid locks for a D3? i already have Shaw, Laird, Weitering and Dea
got around $470k to put towards it

    Derek · 14/03/2016 at 20:45

      K.Willy29 · 14/03/2016 at 20:52

yeah I'm looking at him as well as Birchall and Docherty, but idk which to go with
i was also thinking i could go cheaper to maybe Mckenzie and upgrade somwhere else maybe??

        Swans2012 · 14/03/2016 at 21:52

        Rich perhaps?

          Derek · 14/03/2016 at 22:49

Ive got rich at D4 and really like him there. Beams out, Zorko to miss a few, rocky going forward, Rich will get good midfield time. Was at 17 centre bounces in NAB3

Sarah says he might get the tag!

    Phil · 14/03/2016 at 21:20

I like Danger, Priddis, Mills and Gresham if named.
I don't like the rest, although Treloar could be a nice one.

    Swans2012 · 14/03/2016 at 21:59

Be careful of taking pods for the sake of having pods, plenty of time during the season to differentiate your team

    Danners · 15/03/2016 at 10:35

Guthrie is going to be tagging again, Mundy won't average anywhere near what he did last year. The others could be good PODs though

Laird, Yeo, Johannisen, Dea, Collins, Byrne-Jones (Tipungwuti, Hartley)

Fyfe, Danger, Ablett,, Shiel, Rocky, Parker, Libba, Mills (Mathieson, Phillips, Davis)

Nic Nat, Gawn (Cox)

Martin, Barlow, Hall, Wells, Kerridge, Petracca (McCarthy, Brown)

All feedback welcome, cheers

Phil · 14/03/2016 at 21:25

Anyone looking at Leunenberger for a POD? Or B.Crouch? I'm considering both

    Derek · 14/03/2016 at 21:49

    Leuy at R2 or F5?

Maybe at R2 with Grimley at R3

    Swans2012 · 14/03/2016 at 22:02

I can't quite shake the thought of luenhamandeggenberger returning. I mean he's made of glass but if he happens to stay on the park is a clear number 1, but I don't think I've got the fortitude after the Bellchambers debacle last year.
I'll be taking a crouch brother, just not sure which

    Phil · 14/03/2016 at 22:56

It would be F4 Derek, I'd be happy to have a few ruckmen at R2 so I can't fit him in there.
I'm hearing you about Bellchambers last year Swans and the thoughts crossed my mind, but I just think someone's gotta average well in that Essendon team even if they do struggle.

Ben · 14/03/2016 at 21:27

Love this site! Great help always. First RMT post, so feel free to go nuts and pick it to pieces: I'm aware my backline is horrid, but so are most and I'll fix it once we have a better idea of who's stepping up this year.

Johanneson, Lonergan, Weitering, Dea, Hartley, Tippa (Brown, Ruggles)

Fyfe, Dangerfield, Gaz, RobbieG, Treloar, Rockliff, Libba, BKennedy (Kerridge, Davis, Hewitt)

Goldstein, Gawn (Wyatt)

Barlow, SGray, Hall, DeGoey, Wells, Menzel (Petrucca, Papley)

    Derek · 14/03/2016 at 21:51

I only see 8 keepers. Unless we have 46 trades now I can't see you getting enough premiums into your team

todd · 14/03/2016 at 21:27

Thoughts people
def shaw houli johannisen dea broad McDonald tipungwurti (brown Collins)
mid fyfe danger god priddis shiel libba mills kennedy(melb) ( hewett keays davis)
ruck martin dawes (cox)

    Keenbutclueless · 14/03/2016 at 23:12

7 in Defence. Don't think Dawes is a ruck man? 3 rookies in Defence is a worry imo. Rest is solid. No Rocky is a bit of a growing trend. Personally I think that if we have doubts about Rocky, we should have the same with Ablett. Is older, has missed more games with injury in the last two years and hasn't really been discounted

Sean · 14/03/2016 at 21:29

H. Shaw, R. Laird,J. Bartel, M. Brown, M. Hartley, S. Collins, (N. Broad, K. Collins)
Fyfe, Dangerfield, Ablett, Sheil, Rockliff, Cripps Liberatore, Mills (Petraca, Mathieson, Davis)
Barlow, Hall, De Goey, Wells, McCarthy, Kerridge, (Cox, AMT)

only have $700 left, I am wondering if I should downgrade Cripps to B. Crouch to free up some cash for some better on field rookies as im a bit worried about the rookies this year.

also does anyone think there will be three 125k and under rookies starting round one if so who?

    sean · 14/03/2016 at 22:24

completely forgot my rucks – Golstein and Natinui

      Keenbutclueless · 14/03/2016 at 23:05

I think 3 rooks in Defence is a worry. Consider dropping one of Sheil or Cripps and turning them into 2 mid pricers in Defence, or a decent D4 plus Dea/Weitering. Gresham or Menadue for your M8

    Hey Ben,

    Welcome. Ballsy team.

As you're well aware, that backline is skinny. No point having a guy like kerridge, who can score, sit on your bench. Mids are generally where the cash cows are, so you want to get some more cows in there.

    Good luck for the season

Jordan · 14/03/2016 at 21:36

Gresham or menadue?

    Keenbutclueless · 14/03/2016 at 23:38

Steeeve · 14/03/2016 at 22:19

I have to choose my final midfield premo, can afford anyone. Already have Ryder, Danger and Gaz. Considering Pendles and Gray mostly, but open to any suggestions (especially if you have a good reason)!

    Cozza · 14/03/2016 at 22:25

    Assuming Ryder is Rocky??

      Steeeve · 15/03/2016 at 08:37

Haha yep either auto correct or just too tired

Tom · 14/03/2016 at 22:22

Barron, you are a champ. As are all of the JR writers. Particularly enjoying Patch's work this NAB Cup.

As for team selection – I think the FWD structure will be the deciding factor this season.
We're seeing fairly standard defence selections, 3 prem and 5 rookies with the occasional D4 mid pricer. Mids are mostly stacked with Libba at M6-7; although some doubts over Ablett and Rockliff are surfacing. Rucks, majority set and forget.
Then we have the forwards… Plenty of rookie potential there, do we load up and lock in only 2 premiums? Wells is in, what about Simpkin and De Goey? Will Hall maintain the mid minutes once Gaz, Prestia and Lonegran are back? Is Greene's disposal efficiency something that limit his scoring potential? Who's game to get on the Buddy roller coaster? Was Dusty's poor NAB3 just an abnormality? So many questions, so many potential structures…

Andrew · 14/03/2016 at 22:25

Shaw & Zaharakis (Like Zac to upgrade because I think he is unders)

Houli & Parker

Thanks in advance

Derek · 14/03/2016 at 22:37

My earlier teams was Fyfe, Gaz, Pendles, JPK, Rocky, Libba etc

I don't think I can afford to leave Dangerfield out.

Who do I drop?

My head says Pendles but my gut says JPK

    Keenbutclueless · 14/03/2016 at 22:48

hi Derek. Maybe head and gut are both correct. Consider Hanners and Danger? I am seriously considering Hanners for Ablett. I am worried about having two of my top 4 midfielders under injury cloud. At least Rockliff is discounted, and there is plenty around his price to choose from.

      magpie4ver · 14/03/2016 at 23:54

I say Rocky? I don't like hearing Rocky has hammie issue and its happen 3 times in preseason and we are hearing about it now? If he comes up lame during a game he will most likely be out for 3 weeks or longer? I'm also considering culling Abs to…….maybe??? Not sure why people wanna cull Pendels reliable and consistent!

        hedski · 15/03/2016 at 00:19

I cannot bring myself to put gaz or rocky back in after I fiddled round a bit other day. Just doesn't feel right which is weird when you think about it. Bloody gaz and rocky? !?!

    Danners · 15/03/2016 at 10:53

You can afford to have Dangerfield out, he will fall below $600k when you need to upgrade. Besides, no one knows how he will go with Selwood in the midfield

    Grahame Lebroy · 15/03/2016 at 11:25

I'd leave Pendles out this year Derek, even though his output SC wise has been outstanding for years now. Just think the pies midfield is deeper than ever with the likes of Adams, Treloar, Sidebottom, Crisp etc coming through and this might decrease Pendles scores this year

    Marco_Polo94 · 15/03/2016 at 12:02

I dislike selecting premium players who haven't had a full pre season, or had one with any injury concerns.. so as it stands atm I don't have Rocky or Ablett. This could very well change by R1 when Ablett is named as I fear the backlash of not selecting him, but I suppose last year has shaken my resolve a bit. I agree you need Danger in, Geelong look like serious flag contenders and I see Danger only improving on last season. No correct answer for your question, much like selecting the right rookies, knowing which premiums to select is a coin toss sometimes. So i guess go with your gut!

      Wattsieesq · 15/03/2016 at 14:56

I went without Ablett last year and while it was a different senario, I was happy in the end. I did get thumped by injuries to other mids, but that's another story.

    Wattsieesq · 15/03/2016 at 14:56

First year in SC, I've gone without Penddles. Welcome to Bling Hoodie FC, Mr Danger.

    Redgumwon · 15/03/2016 at 15:11

Hi Derek I'd be leaving out Pendle and pick him up later. He could end up playing anywhere filling holes for Collingwood after watching him in the NAB games.

What do you guys think about playing wells at F3? a heap of value up forward this year and uncertainty with the forward premos, is it a risky move doing this?

Keenbutclueless · 14/03/2016 at 22:58

Wow! No cookie cutter around here! No Ablett, Rockliff or Libba! Feeling like Menzel plus 2 x 200k rookies is a bit much. I feel like 3 rookies in Defence is also too much. Consider Menzel to Wilson or McDonald at D4. Bring Kerridge onto the field. Loophole R3. Upgrade MacPherson to Gresham, if you can get there, or Keays if you can't. I don't think you can hold 2 102k rooks both from GC. Think only one will get upgraded.

        Greg · 15/03/2016 at 16:25

        Thanks for the opinions.
I am currently running with option one as I think Goldy and Fyfe will score about the same but Rockliff has a greater upside that Naitanui but the niggling doubts about Rockliff's fitness has me re-assessing and now my head is just spinning.
I worryl it will be like being at airport customs where you always pick the wrong queue.

Dan · 15/03/2016 at 00:55

Really made my night a stress but loving your work thanks Barron, not bad for a scummy crows supporter [not that I'm a spiteful port man ;)].

I am still changing structures this late, I'm going crazy. Give me some insight into my current.

Shaw, Laird, Johannisen
Weitering, Dea, Broad | Collins, Hartley

Dangerfield, The Messiah, Rockliff, Parker, Wines, Liberatore, B Crouch, Mills | Oliver, Menadue, Hewett

Naitanui, Gawn | Grimley

Barlow, Robinson, Hall, Wells
Kennedy, Kerridge | Petracca, McDonald-Tipungwuti

I feel D1-3, M1-M7, R1-3, and F1-3 are all keepers. Wells and Crouch may not be but will make great stepping stones to fallen premiums if that's the case through the byes. I'm a little uncertain with Robinson and Johannisen. I feel they have fantastic POD value, JJ is in some form and rebounding, Robinson is unpredictable but always works hard and contests, he's in a new role at a new club, one that's missing Zorko and Beams, at least to start the year. What are your thoughts community, considering the likes of Sam Gray, De Goey and DEF 400-550k options. Cheers

    Derek · 15/03/2016 at 09:17

my theory is that your starting team is made up of keepers and cash-generators.

the keepers are the top 8 in each line (not top 15). the ones that you are happy to have all year. Sarah makes a great point, too many people judge the top 8 on their "average" without looking at their overall score that takes into account how many games they play.

the cash-generators are the rest. their only purpose is to increase in value.

The faster you can make cash, the quicker you get to full premium and the more points you will score sooner.

So when you look at a non-keeper, you have to ask "how much cash will he make and how quick will he do it?" This is where a good understanding of how a players price will increase helps. Factors include who they are playing (Port, Melb, gcs, geelong, norf all have good starts to the season), their current price and their rolling 3 game average. Study this and you will be able to predict how much a player will increase.

people worry about the early scoring of their players. if your players are making money, the score will look after itself, over time, especially the second half of the year, if you have good team value and mostly premiums you will soon catch up to those teams that havn't been able to reach the full premium.

last year i was ranked 19,000th after 5 rounds and finished up 76th.

Is Sam Gray and DeGoey keepers? If not, how much cash will they make and when will they peak?

      Cozza · 15/03/2016 at 09:56

Absolutely agree Derek. I think too many teams are getting sucked into the mid-range players thinking they are cheap for their potential point generation. That is all well and good, but only helps in the short term. These guys may only generate $100k or so over the year, which means you need more trades to get to a full premo team.

I'm one who's toyed with players like Yeo, Rosa, Hall (still in my team), Sheridan, Menzel, McKenzie, BCrouch, etc. I doubt any of these players will be top 10-15 in their respective lines, so why pick them up? I'm thinking a max of 2, possibly 3 of these players to try and pick the 'breakout' player, but it won't happen for all of them. The rest for me will be pure guns and rookies. As you say, it will probably affect scoring early in the game, but I should get to full premo a lot quicker and not run out of trades as early as I have in previous years.

        Cozza · 15/03/2016 at 10:03

One counter argument to the comment that you need more trades to get to a full premo team is that is should be easier to get to premo because it costs less to upgrade someone who is $400k-500k than it is to upgrade a $250k – $400k player. That is true, but if you are starting with premo/rookie strategy, you will have less upgrades to do over the year. If you are starting with 14 genuine keepers, you only need to upgrade 8 rookies – should be able to do that in 16-20 trades if you pick your rookies right.

        Derek · 15/03/2016 at 10:04

what does your team look like Cozza?

          Derek · 15/03/2016 at 10:10

my structure i'm allowing 1 mid-pricer on each line.

i'm going with Wells, Libba, Rich & Lobbe as my only mid-pricers. They all have their risks, especially Lobbe, but they all have some cash to be made.

Even if Lobbe doesn't make much cash, i think Goldy might drop in price a bit so it is the same as Lobbe increasing. sort of. maybe.

        Dan · 15/03/2016 at 14:56

I think Crouch will come very close this year. He's a gun ready to fire in a Crows midfield without Dangermouse.

Shaq · 15/03/2016 at 04:44

What's everyone's diagnosis on Pendles? Bucks had him playing loose in def for quite the majority of the game against the Bulldogs and periods against North Melb also. Disposal count was down on what it usually is (even though it was only NAB games) My query is, if this is how bucks is intending to use his captain this season, as a loose down back and the target man to launch there attacks, will this effect his scoring output or not?

    Holty · 15/03/2016 at 10:07

if this is where he plays this year, it will affect his scoring output. Collingwoods midfield is strong this year but would hate to think that they sacrifice their best midfielder to play this role.

    Marco_Polo94 · 15/03/2016 at 12:04

Don't read too much into nab is my tip, he will still be collingwood's number 1 scorer.

      Swans2012 · 15/03/2016 at 12:39

Agreed, it's nab, trade after round 2 if still playing ridiculous half back style role

Bevan Connelly · 15/03/2016 at 05:00

Anyone up for a real Supercoach challenge.

I have created a very deep Supercoach Draft league, details here.
16 teams, play each other once, plus finals (dont play during the bye rounds)
22 players per team, so a total of 352 players will be drafted, you will need to know your stuff to compete.
22 players consist of – 5 x def, 7 x mid, 1 x ruck, 5 x fwd, 4 x bench
LIVE draft Sunday, March 20th @ 1pm

League code 702156

If you know your footy and want a real challenge, this is it.

Weitering or Dea at d4?

    Swans2012 · 15/03/2016 at 12:33

Dea, cheaper, more potential to score, lesser chance of being rested, but it's close

Derek · 15/03/2016 at 12:23

Laird & Simpson OR Shaw and BSmith?

    Swans2012 · 15/03/2016 at 12:36

Not particularly keen on smith or Simpson derek so that is corrupting my decision. But I'd give it to smith and shaw still just. Prefer rich or even a lonergan/Sheridan to smith though until we see how his position settles

      Derek · 15/03/2016 at 12:59

thanks swans, i think you are right, neither Smith or Simpson gets me to excited. Currently have Shaw, Laird, Bartel, Rich, Brown & Collins.

just looking at combinations to get Weitering or Dea at D5

    Brook · 15/03/2016 at 13:05

hi Derek … I have been thinking about the same dilemma … basically, I have around $1m to spend on D1 & D3. There are some D3 options (Rich, JJ, Smith) but all have risk. I am tempted to lock in two 500k players (along with laird) and try to pick up shaw later. The 600k price tag means u have to compromise elsewhere.

    Wattsieesq · 15/03/2016 at 15:09

I don't mind Simpson, he's consistent and durable. I'd go for him and laird over b smith and shaw.

      Derek · 15/03/2016 at 15:20

i had Simpson from start to finish last year. Was ok.

        Wattsieesq · 15/03/2016 at 15:51

He's the modern (just) day Enright. Durable and will give you 90s. Nothing fancy.

          Derek · 15/03/2016 at 17:32

i think i need to have keeper at D3. If i start with Shaw, that means i have Smith & rich at D3&D4. not sure they are keeper material.

            Wattsieesq · 15/03/2016 at 17:47

I agree, I generally have a keeper at D3, but I have the Gov in there at the moment. I'm not totally sold on him. Defense will be tricky this year. Smith may be a keeper. If he can remain injury free and get back to his 2014 AA level, he'll definaely be a keeper.

              brook · 15/03/2016 at 19:06

I generally think of D3 as speculative keeper … someone a bit cheaper who may end up a keeper, eg. newnes from last year. same goes for M5, R2 and F3. If I get 2 out of 4 I am happy. currently have rich, parker, gawn and ahall in those positions. I define keeper as number of positions on field x 1.5, eg top 12 mid, top 9 def

Josh · 15/03/2016 at 12:28

Robbie gray or Josh Kennedy?

    Derek · 15/03/2016 at 13:05

i would say JPK. but i wouldn't be surprised to see Gray do just as well if not better to start the year as Port have a very good draw.

I still have JPK in the top 10 with gray in the next group.

JPK wins so much contested ball, his Supercoach numbers are always very good.

      Wattsieesq · 15/03/2016 at 15:09

      Agree. JPK

    Steeeve · 15/03/2016 at 14:17

I'm wondering the same thing but can also afford Pendles. At this stage I'm going Gray. Port has a soft draw early, and last year Kennedy was poor until halfway through when some people got him bargain basement and he went ballistic. I'm hoping to get him cheap later this year.

    @grayson_lowee · 15/03/2016 at 16:39

I quite like it, mostly because of how different it is to most peoples, lots of POD's here, although i think you have one too many midpricers, look at downgrading de goey and possibly upgrading one of your defenders.

Steeeve · 15/03/2016 at 16:17

        Big G · 16/03/2016 at 10:12

Yes, I understood – my point is that the likelihood of him playing is very low anyway. So I wouldn't worry about it.

          Mighty_Hondo · 21/03/2016 at 02:23

@grayson_lowee · 15/03/2016 at 16:30

Now i was so keen to start with Zorko because i was sure he was going to have a 105-110+ average, and normally i go for league wins, so i was going to bench him for the first round, however i have decided now that i want to go for rankings and make it into the top 1k this year. How badly would it affect me if i keep him on the bench for round 1? His replacement for that round would be Ben Kennedy. Cheers

Jess · 15/03/2016 at 16:58

We need to talk about Joel Selwood. I'm seriously considering him as a pod. He's playing a practice match this week and is likely to line up round one. Am I right in thinking that Dangerfield will get the tag and, if Selwood returns to his 2014 form (where he averaged 120ish), he could very well aveage similarly? His last half of the season was respectable, and it does seem funny that proven champions such as ablett and rockliffe are being considered without a NAB showing, while Selwood isn't on anyones radar. All we need is a 110 average from him to be well worth the $ at that price. Thoughts?

    Jess · 15/03/2016 at 17:15

In fact, he averaged 112 for the last 11 games of the season, which includes a whooping score of 170 and a low one of 50. Since one of the key reasons for his low scores was having the tag, I'm more than excited of what he could produce without as much attention.

he's in my team…some concern about the foot, but got to take some chances in this game…all the best!

    Derek · 15/03/2016 at 17:26

he is still in my top 8 midfielders and usually at his price he would have been locked into my team. His injury is a worry and therefore i was thinking he might be a wait and see.

    Holty · 15/03/2016 at 17:29

    Agree Jess.
He has been in my side since the beginning. This will all depend if he lines up round 1 obviously.
People are reluctant as they think he will miss games due to injuries. I think all you need to do is look back over his career. He doesnt miss many games and he more often then not plays through niggles.

Do we see S.Gray and Hall as keepers ?
Or will they need upgrading later on ?

    Derek · 15/03/2016 at 17:24

they shouldn't be regarded as keepers. they won't be bad options to have in your team for most of the year though and upgrade as one of the later ones if you still have coin and trades.

      Liam · 15/03/2016 at 17:58

Hall should still make some money anyway as well as get some great scores.

    Shake n bake · 15/03/2016 at 17:25

I have both in my side. I only have them because I'm hopeing there keepers if you don't think they are, look for someone else.

    Holty · 15/03/2016 at 17:26

    Hi Liam
Dont select them unless you see them as keepers. Im starting Hall as I think he will do enough to warrent being a keeper.

      Liam · 15/03/2016 at 17:57

I think Hall will do enough to be a F6 keeper, but i'm not sure.

    Wattsieesq · 15/03/2016 at 17:52

I don't think Hall will be a keeper. When JOM, Presita, Gaz, Swallow et al return, his mid time and sc output will decrease.

      Liam · 15/03/2016 at 17:57

i'm thinking the same, but not sure.

      Holty · 15/03/2016 at 18:57

thats the big question. when they return? last year i wouldnt touch him but with the restrictions of the interchance cap this year, all mids will be rotated. I think Hall will still play good time in the middle irrelevant.
