Things get serious in NAB Week 2

They really came to play in the NAB over the weekend.

And the fantasy relevance of what transpired over the weekend’s NAB Challenge games was significant. The murky fog of uncertainty around rookies is beginning to lift. Midpriced mirages are dissolving before our very eyes. New possibilities are presenting themselves.

Important notes as discussed in the podcast;

Let’s get this discussion cranking community:

Absolutely spewing if that ends up the case he coulda been Bloody handy

    Longdrop · 29/02/2016 at 16:24

Adelaide radio reports last week were that he had pulled up "sorer than expected" so was rested for NAB 2

      @BarronVonCrow · 29/02/2016 at 17:17

Yep. He still did a training session and is supposed to be ready for NAB 3, but I suspect even if he does play he'll have limited game time.

        Benjamima Puddleduck · 29/02/2016 at 19:29

if he plays round 1, he wont be putting up the points that we are after. Ill be looking at him a few games in i think.
But we will let NAB guide us!

Josh · 29/02/2016 at 13:39

Hey Gents,

Who do you like most out of the following?

Billings, Stringer, Merrett, Greene.

Cheers.

    @OldCampaignerSC · 29/02/2016 at 13:46

Reckon Zacky Merrett now..looks like he can go through the guts now and kicks goals!buddy at f3 for me but im strongly considering Zacky now..

      Josh · 29/02/2016 at 14:01

Had buddy in at first look at my team but since booted… currently have Billings but want to see a few more games from him, like the look of Merrett,

    vchap · 29/02/2016 at 14:01

Im expecting billings to explode but in saying that i cant fit him into my starting team

      Mike · 29/02/2016 at 20:15

Are you ready for the money shot?

    TRIGGER HAPPY · 29/02/2016 at 14:19

I've gone Stringer but reckon billings could b in for a big one. But honestly they could all kick it up a gear sometimes u just have to trust ya gut.

    Ethan017 · 29/02/2016 at 15:18

Big fan of Greene ball magnet

      Redgumwon · 01/03/2016 at 13:56

I like Greene as well. I think Greene can be in the top 6 forwards by the end of the year

    Kano · 29/02/2016 at 16:06

    Stringer looks powerful.

@OldCampaignerSC · 29/02/2016 at 13:40

Will be listening very closely tonight fellas…love the podcasts!!!

Tom · 29/02/2016 at 13:48

What do people think of Matt Boyd?

    Leighroy · 29/02/2016 at 13:53

Too old won't play 22 games

      Tom · 29/02/2016 at 13:59

neither will bartel but hes locked into most sides

    vchap · 29/02/2016 at 14:05

Will prob be highest scoring aveage defender but will be managed so his ripe for finals. He will play max 18 games baring injury.

    TRIGGER HAPPY · 29/02/2016 at 14:08

Unless something dramatic happens in.the nab I'm starting him. A proven point scorer who should go a 100 avg in Def or better. Tick for me. I know bit long in the tooth but will probably b only rested 3-4 times and u do have a bench. A lad called luke hodge who everyone said was too long in the tooth was rested 5 times last year but finished top 3. History repeating in 2016? Cant see matty getting rubbed out either. I
Can't figure out besides shaw and laird who the best Def is? Bartel? McVeigh? Enright? same tooth length query here.
    Breakouts? Let me know.

As i think shaw is over priced and I can't fit him in I think I will go with the next best proven SC Scoring Defender.

      West · 29/02/2016 at 14:14

      Thinking the same Trigger.

Laird and Bartel are locked in for me. Trying to find a way to fit in Boyd. Reckon theyll all be top 8 come end of the year

        TRIGGER HAPPY · 29/02/2016 at 14:22

        Hard to argue.

Was going middles in defence but too hard to pick so changed my mind in Def to go 3-3.

Boyd, Laird, Yeo, Weithering, brown, rook *3.

          REN · 29/02/2016 at 15:39

Looking good trigger. Not sure about the Yeo pick just yet though

          Im looking at going

          Laird, KK, Bartel and Sheridan

            TRIGGER HAPPY · 29/02/2016 at 16:10

Giving yeo another chance. Priddus would have struggled to get a kick with the team wc put on the park. Hoping for a better showing and running through the mids with a stronger team around him.

            Liam · 29/02/2016 at 17:02

            same as mine REN

          West · 29/02/2016 at 15:43

I like it! Mine is looking similar at the moment

Bg G · 29/02/2016 at 13:49

Is anyone thinking of doing the unthinkable and passing on Ablett for someone like Pendels or Gray and trying to pick him up later when we know how he is going?

    Rich · 29/02/2016 at 14:11

    No

      REN · 29/02/2016 at 14:17

      No

        Holty · 29/02/2016 at 14:54

        No

    TRIGGER HAPPY · 29/02/2016 at 14:26

Massive call. If he gets through nab cup and looks the goods he picks himself IMHO.

      Bg G · 29/02/2016 at 15:20

My theory is that there is no guarantee he will average over 120 again or someone like Gray/Pendels can match him for the first few rounds? He is 31 and injury-prone and Eade has stated that GC need start to playing like a team where he is not the be all and end all.

    Benjamima Puddleduck · 29/02/2016 at 15:12

    sure am!!..

    hah, just kidding

    NO

    I N Pieman · 29/02/2016 at 15:14

    Good luck next year Bg

Tom · 29/02/2016 at 14:02

Maccaffer a good option? Wont tag this year

    I N Pieman · 29/02/2016 at 15:15

Maybe. If there aren't decent rooks in the mids keep him in mid. Think Crisp has taken the tagging torch

    Danners · 29/02/2016 at 15:51

Could save $60k by going a cheaper more reliable rookie

      Shake n bake · 29/02/2016 at 17:07

He'll be reliable, l think anyway.

    DuckingTigers · 01/03/2016 at 14:08

It would be improbable that he'd play a hard tagger when recovering from a knee injury.

Grahame Lebroy · 29/02/2016 at 14:02

Excellent podcast fellas, loving the looseness Jock brought this week courtesy of Carlton Draught

    jockreynolds · 29/02/2016 at 14:06

Thank you Grahame. Glad you enjoyed this casting of the pod mate

REN · 29/02/2016 at 14:16

What defenders you think will finish top 8 come end of year?

    I N Pieman · 29/02/2016 at 15:17

Better chance of working out the lotto numbers REN. Not even convinced Shaw will

    Vchap · 29/02/2016 at 18:20

Heres my go (in no particular order) Shaw, Mcveigh, Boyd, Bartel, Rance, Laird, Rich and Houli

      Vchap · 29/02/2016 at 18:21

Sh*t forgot simpson and murphy replace them with rich and houli

Underthepump · 29/02/2016 at 14:36

Backs – Laird, Murphy, Kolodjashnij, Sheridan, Brown (Ess), Bonner (Collins, Broad)
Mids – Dangerfield, Pendlebury, Ablett, Rockliff, Parker, Liberatore, Parish, Mathieson (Keys, Phillips, Clarke)
Rucks – Goldstein, Lobbe (Cox)
Forwards – Martin, Barlow, Stringer, Franklin, Kerridge, Petracca (Grimley, Adams)

Thoughts community?

Sheridan and Stringer risky picks and rookies subject to change

    SC16 · 29/02/2016 at 15:43

looks like a very strong side, but if it was my team i would downgrade goldy to stefan martin or even blicavs (hurts to say as im a kangas supporter) which would leave you 100k and a bit then take out sherridan and parish which should leave you around 650k (assuming you had no money in the bank from your team to start) then get a cheap rookie for the midfield or defence around the 120-102 pricetag and then you should have around 550k to buy a premo for like wines or bartel in
    Good luck

    Kano · 29/02/2016 at 16:14

Leave Goldy alone. Upgrade Lobbe. Set and forget

      SC16 · 29/02/2016 at 16:34

Upgrade Stefan Martin to Goldy later in the year when he drops in price because their is no doubt he will, he is priced nearly 700k
But I do love Goldy make sure you get him at the right time

        Dillon Panthers · 29/02/2016 at 19:45

I think upgrading martin to goldy is a wasted trade tbh

          judd0 · 01/03/2016 at 00:30

Yeah if you're going to start with Martin in the ruck you can't plan to trade him up to Goldy.
Martin is the second most expensive ruck if you plan to trade up to Goldy mid season you need to start with someone that offers real value.

TRIGGER HAPPY · 29/02/2016 at 14:38

I think the riskiest pick there is Lobbe after what gawn did to him on the weekend.

@BarronVonCrow · 29/02/2016 at 14:41

42 initial CoachKings venue and 42 is the answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, The Universe, and Everything.

    Valks · 29/02/2016 at 15:44

Flip it the other way and you get 24. 24 cans of Carlton Draught in a case, 24 hors in a day!

      longdrop · 29/02/2016 at 17:15

doing real well if you can get through 24 hors in a day Valks!! lol

        Valks · 29/02/2016 at 17:56

        Hours! Ha

Soothsayer · 29/02/2016 at 14:46

Geez I feel like going to the Globe here in Deniliquin for an ice cold Carlton Draught now Jock. Only trouble is I've just come over from Adelaide and I have no idea how to order a beer properly. I liked the look of Mckay from Carlton too, any thoughts on his role at the Navy blues? I liked the way he had a few little jabs and bumps with the bomber boys during the breaks too.

    Phil · 29/02/2016 at 16:09

I also liked the way the bombers made Carlton look like the team of top ups.

      DuckingTigers · 01/03/2016 at 20:47

The battle for the spoon has begun.

Sarah · 29/02/2016 at 14:55

Awesome podcast boys! So disappointed I didn't win the tickets… I was 55… so close!!!
I think I'm starting to veer away from all the midpricers as you spoke about. Standard GnR set up… but I think I need to take a risk somewhere. The winner usually has picked at least 1 breakout player… still deciding who that might be.

    I N Pieman · 29/02/2016 at 15:22

There's no shortage of fine candidates this year Sarah. Role on the dice on a couple, but no more than you can get rid of in round 3 before price movements if they spud it. There are so many candidates this year

      Sarah · 29/02/2016 at 15:26

You're not wrong Pieman!! So many potential traps!

        I N Pieman · 29/02/2016 at 15:40

Sure is. Pulling of a TMac Lachie Neale pick is fraught with danger. But risk reward. Can think of 20 blokes that could do that this year. Pulling the right rein makes a huge difference

Holty · 29/02/2016 at 14:55

Cheers fellas. Another great Podcast. It always helps get me through work on a Monday.

@BarronVonCrow · 29/02/2016 at 15:02

Small sample size, but I think the initial difference between Smith this year and the previous two years may very well be the Crows ball movement out of the back half. 2014 when he was All-Australian, the defenders like Talia, Brown, Rutten etc all were instructed to move the ball around by hand until you could get it into the hands of Brodie Smith or Matty Jaenech. So they were the main facilitators of the offense out of the back half. Last year he still had some great performances, but he was further up field and was delivering the ball inside to the forwards.

This year there's two things the Crows are looking to do. Intercept across half back and then if possible, work the ball through from halfback and through the middle with chain possessions of handballs. But they don't look to be going to just Smith anymore, so if Smith isn't being the main outlet out of half back, that lowers his potential. BUT if he can become an intercepting player and be involved in those chains, either at the start, middle or even the end where he can finish, then he could still be a good player. Unley Oval in NAB 1 was supposedly 26m smaller than a normal oval, so it's not exactly the best for that kind of gameplay, and he was obviously off at halftime. Laird is still a great pick too, and I may be leaning towards him if the cash is there. I'd definitely give him NAB 3 before we write him off and hope Dr Modra fixed him up in the rooms when he went off crook.

Also, if this doesn't illustrate how big of a year I think he's going to have, then nothing will. I am locking Patrick Dangerfield into my midfield. M1, teamed up with Ablett as my M2.

    Sarah · 29/02/2016 at 15:24

Great analysis Barron. I'm locking in Dangerfield too. I think it will help us get over the loss by forcing us to 1. watch him play, and 2. hope he plays well.
I've also already bought my tickets to the Crows v Cats game at Adelaide Oval. I'm coming over from Melbourne for it… God I hope we win that game!!

      @BarronVonCrow · 29/02/2016 at 15:35

Great hear, Sarah. I'm not gonna boo him, but I hope we flog the pants off the Cats!

        I N Pieman · 29/02/2016 at 15:44

Will be some spice in that game

          @BarronVonCrow · 29/02/2016 at 17:18

I imagine Danger is gonna get the "Bernie Vince Treatment" when he gets here.

            Sarah · 01/03/2016 at 09:54

I sure hope so. I won't boo him either, but I will cry if we lose that game!!!

              DuckingTigers · 01/03/2016 at 20:54

Hell hath no fury like an Adelaide club scorned.

TRIGGER HAPPY · 29/02/2016 at 15:14

Was my first picked defender when the higginator was released and is locked in.

    REN · 29/02/2016 at 15:54

    No fyfe barron?

      @BarronVonCrow · 29/02/2016 at 17:17

Not to begin with. Someone else from Perth who is slightly cheaper in mind.

        LuskinStar · 29/02/2016 at 23:14

Danger and Gaz M1 and 2 for me as well. Think fyfe more likely to drop in price than Danger.

simon · 29/02/2016 at 15:15

Which one
1. Nic nat and parker
2. Zac smith and pendlebury

    ben · 29/02/2016 at 15:21

    both shit options

      SC_Beast · 29/02/2016 at 15:34

How is option 1 shit? Please tell me about your supercoach knowledge? Option 1 is good.

        TRIGGER HAPPY · 29/02/2016 at 15:40

        Yep 1 for me.

        ben · 29/02/2016 at 15:47

both players extremely risky, a lot better options in both positions available with similar prices

          SC_Beast · 29/02/2016 at 15:51

          Parker risky?

    Sheldon · 29/02/2016 at 15:22

if your considering zac smith, you know nothing about supercoach. A lot better mid options available than Parker

    Sarah · 29/02/2016 at 15:27

I like Parker as an option. Injury effected last year. Has loads of potential. Nic Nat could also be in for a huge year!!
Option 1 for me. Don't mess about with the rucks.

      Sheldon · 29/02/2016 at 15:46

agree that you need 2 gun rucks!, i just cant see parker averaging more than 110+ which you want from premium mid's. Hannebery would be the only Sydney mid i'd consider.

      Redgumwon · 01/03/2016 at 14:04

Agree Sarah I've now down graded Martin to Nic Nat and upgraded Lobbe for Gawn. They'll be my starting ruckmen. I've also gone for Parker & Rocky now in the midfield and done away with Pendles. My side looks like this now

Backs: Laird, Bartel, Rosa, Sheridan, Brown (Ess) Hartley, Byrne-Jones, Broad
Mids: Fyfe, Danger, GAJ, Rocky, Parker, Libba, Mills, Kerridge, Gore, Keays, Mathieson
      Ruck: Nic Nat, Gawn, Cox
Fwd: Dusty, Barlow, Greene, De Goey, Kennedy (Melb) Milera, Petracca, Grimley

      What do you think?

        Sarah · 01/03/2016 at 14:39

I like it!! Good solid backline! I do think people are jumping on De Goey a bit quick. It was one good NAB game, no Pendles or Treloar, and he's a second year player. Not for me. Maybe next year or the year after.

          Redgumwon · 01/03/2016 at 14:55

Thanks Sarah. I'm finding the forward harder to pick this year. I'll just keep my eye on how De Goey goes in the next NAB Cup game. I was thinking similar to you when the Collingwood guns return what effect it'll have on De Goey. The same think could be said about Mills in the midfield. When McVeigh returns how will it effect Mills and his role in the Sydney side.

I did like Vandenberg's game for Melbourne on the weekend. He did play forward but I think that was more for team balance and another tall option. If he goes and spends more time midfield and goes forward he could be in for some handy scores.

    dannyyboyy · 29/02/2016 at 15:44

    1 is much better

    REN · 29/02/2016 at 15:48

    1.

Zac Smith is way too risky. Always shows promise in NAB but struggles especially when he isnt number 1 ruck.

    SC16 · 29/02/2016 at 15:52

both good options, zac smith showed he can score well but might not get to play full games depending on rhys stanley and pendles even though he might not play the same role as past years but should still put out very consistent scores

I think Nic nat could have a very big year this one and would be a much better option then zac smith imo. so you should ask yourself this question, is Pendles going to score that much more than parker? if you think so maybe go option 2 but i would go #1

judd0 · 29/02/2016 at 15:34

Gawn vs Nic Nat?
Who averages more?

    I N Pieman · 29/02/2016 at 15:42

Trying to work that out as well. A good case for both

      SC_Beast · 29/02/2016 at 15:45

Thats my dilemma. Between them 2 for my R2.

        judd0 · 29/02/2016 at 15:59

        Yeah also my dilemma Beast.
Gawn sitting there currently and it might stay that way at this stage I think.

    TRIGGER HAPPY · 29/02/2016 at 15:45

Haven't seen nic nat so far this year will see how he goes in nab 3. But gawn was mighty impressive on the weekend looks to have built up his tank and was getting to contest after contest around the ground. Nic nat although great to watch is not a big possession gatherer so I think the better option is gawn but would like nic nat to prove me wrong.

    Danners · 29/02/2016 at 16:02

Tough call, Nic Nat has a better chance of averaging more as he has averaged well for a few years now, Gawn was only good late last season

    Gaveday · 29/02/2016 at 17:00

    I'm thinking both

    LuskinStar · 29/02/2016 at 23:16

Going with Nic Nat because i feel he has scoring potential away from hit outs.

SC_Beast · 29/02/2016 at 15:48

Thoughts on my team! Feedback is appreciated.

Shaw, Laird, KK, Aish, Broad, Tucker, Collins, McDonald-Tipungwuti,
Fyfe, Danger, Ablett, Rockliff, Parker, Libba, Mills, Gresham, Keays, Mathieson, MacPherson
Goldstein, Gawn, Wyatt
Martin, Zorko, Barlow, Kerridge, Petracca, Brown, Grimley, Adams.

    Danners · 29/02/2016 at 16:08

Good team, although having set reliable premos means there are more rookies which if don't go well round 1, could mean the use of a few early trades

      SC_Beast · 29/02/2016 at 16:19

So what suggestions do you suggest?

        SC_Beast · 29/02/2016 at 16:21

        if that makes sense

      neil · 29/02/2016 at 19:22

what does that mean please explain

    hedeski · 29/02/2016 at 21:43

I like it beast very similar to mine atm besides a couple defs.

    Rance Laird McGovern (2dads Jones)
    Weitering Brown (ess) K.Collins (Hartley)

    Danger Fyfe GAJ (Mathieson)
    Rocky Parker Libba (Petracca)
    Gresham Kerridge (Phillips)

    Goldy Gawn (Cox)

Choppies Z t Mag Winky (McCarthy)
    Simpkin Milera Menananandue (Filthy Grimey)

I think McGovern is a smokey POD/breakout with a few big boys back for the eagles.

Great podcast fellas few frothies in the shed after work Mondays is a must now cheers

Dave · 29/02/2016 at 15:49

Is there a good argument for putting a midpriced ruckman like Kreuzer or Z.Smith in your starting lineup with the view to upgrade to Goldstein when the price is right.

You might burn a trade, but could potentially save up to $200k.

    Danners · 29/02/2016 at 15:59

Could be a good plan, but there is no rucks around that would make quick cash and it will be a while till Goldstein falls below $600k

    I N Pieman · 29/02/2016 at 16:01

The reasons against far outweigh the reasons for. I'd can that idea

    Swans2012 · 29/02/2016 at 16:45

Definately considering it as I can't justify the goldy spend, considering Sinclair,Nicholls, smith and kreuzer I guess (though a bit pricey). If Sinclair can do a little in the next couple nabs and looks like averaging 85-90+ he might be the one, would make a handy f6-7 ruck cover later in the season. And means your not wasting a trade as he is slipped into the forward line. Just doubting his scoring potential but we'll see…. I think he'll ruck 65-70% over Tippett so that might be enough….

      Leeds17 · 29/02/2016 at 18:55

Couple Swans members i know reckon they'll share rucks duties if not Sinclair spending a touch more time forward.

        Swans2012 · 29/02/2016 at 19:55

Could be right, time will tell I guess, i just remember horse saying something about getting Tippett playing more time in "his" position this year. Then again he has been doin well in the ruck and he is a big bastard (203cm) Sinclair is 200. Interesting…. Hmmmmm

          Mike · 29/02/2016 at 20:28

Tippet was an absolute gun over the later part of last year, I think they’ll want his presence around the ground, he seems like he’d been watching Mummy’s game and reacting well after the taps, getting involved.
Swans are real chance for the flag this year I reckon.

    Gaveday · 29/02/2016 at 17:09

absolutely. Many here will tell you otherwise, but if you go for Gawn instead of goldy you're saving 140k odd already and got yourself a ruck who'll score. That 140 could upgrade your r2 from a lobbe type to a nic nat type (give or take a few 10ks) but you catch my drift. You can have 2 solid ruckman for a mill or goldy and martin for 1.29mill.
The funds can be used elsewhere! Rookies generate cash and if you really really need 2 you can goldy it up later.

A question for the ages is has any number one priced player every significantly increased? Will goldy go above 700k????

    Surely not.

    LuskinStar · 29/02/2016 at 23:48

I think the gap in price between Goldy and a midprice ruck will always be too great for that plan to work.

    Steeeve · 01/03/2016 at 00:31

I have decided it will be impossible for a mid pricer to upgrade to goldy.gap is just too big. I am however toying with goldy and a mid pricer (like lobbe). That way I can save some cash initially and upgrade to a fawn/nic Nat/ jacobs, whoever has bottomed out.

Danners · 29/02/2016 at 15:50

Great podcast guys! Got my eye on Viney and Z.Merrett after their performances. Sheridan is also an interesting pick. Thoughts community?

    SC_Beast · 29/02/2016 at 15:59

Sheridan is an interesting pick. Not sure I trust Ross Lyon in which what role Sheridan will play. Viney looked good, but will he tag?

      Danners · 29/02/2016 at 16:05

That is the only problem I have with Viney at the moment, he hasn't yet though. Sheridan looks like he may get midfield time or provide run off half back with his speed

    lostlarrikin · 29/02/2016 at 17:59

I'm all over Sheets. Per my comments in the Freo/Crows game thread.
Sheets finished last yr with an 85avg from last 9.
    Looks like similar role.

Nathan · 29/02/2016 at 16:20

My Balance looks way better if I have Nic Nat and Gawn as my 2 ruckman – Arhhh the dilemmas of Ruckman.

not sure if I big enough brass balls to go it though.

    magpie4ver · 29/02/2016 at 16:52

I'm dealing with the same issue…….Its tough…..remember NicNat and Gawn have same bye week.

      'Paulie Walnuts' · 29/02/2016 at 16:59

Yes,I had Goldy & Martin until i realised they had the same bye, now gone Goldy & Gawn – haha Goldstein & Gawn – sounds like a Law Firm

        Westy · 29/02/2016 at 20:31

Why not Goldy and Smith or Lobbe?

SC_Beast · 29/02/2016 at 16:21

Would you go Aish or Weitering at D4?

    REN · 29/02/2016 at 16:26

Weitering IMO. Save the cash and could end up having similar output

      Liam · 29/02/2016 at 16:31

What does evryone see him averaging, stronly considering now.

        Holty · 29/02/2016 at 17:25

id say 65-75 is what you should expect. cant see him averaging less then 65 but as a key position defender, cant expect him to average more. im locking him in based on the fact that he will be the most likely rookie defender to play all year.

          LuskinStar · 29/02/2016 at 23:52

If he averages less than 75 he will not be worth having as he wont make you enough. Im trying to decide if i think he can average 80? Wont have him if i dont.

    DuckingTigers · 01/03/2016 at 14:14

Can see Weitering being very inconsistent. How do you think he'll go against Cloke or Hawkins? Aish can run around and try to accumulate. It's reactive versus proactive.

REN · 29/02/2016 at 16:21

Boyd and Weitering

OR

KK and Sheridan

    SC_Beast · 29/02/2016 at 16:25

KK and Sheridan at this stage. But if you can swap Boyd for someone like Laird I would do that.

    SC16 · 29/02/2016 at 16:28

Byod and Weitering but instead of Byod i would personally go Mcveigh

      TRIGGER HAPPY · 29/02/2016 at 16:30

      why?

        REN · 29/02/2016 at 16:37

Doubt McVeigh will be ready round 1

        SC16 · 29/02/2016 at 16:38

I feel Mcveigh is just a bit more reliable
But i agree with SC_Beast, I would go Laird and Weiterang though
Laird is locked in my team

          SC16 · 29/02/2016 at 16:39

Forgot about Laird for a second haha

Thoughts on Sam Gray?

played really well on the weekend

    Swans2012 · 29/02/2016 at 16:52

Yeah I really like him, I think he could well be top 10 forward but just awkward price. I'm leaning to a hall at the moment but we'll see what next couple of nabs bring.

      ben · 29/02/2016 at 22:45

top 10 forward means shit. doubt he'll be a top 6 forward

        Swans2012 · 01/03/2016 at 06:31

Your better than I am if you think you can nail all 6 of the top 6 forwards, if you can slot someone in out of the top ten for 480k at the start of the season you do it every time…..

    Jambo · 29/02/2016 at 19:42

If named in Round 1, pick him. At the very least, place him upon your watch list. If he plays most games this year, then he could average over 100.

Liam · 29/02/2016 at 16:53

Thoughts on my team.
DEF: Laird, KK, Bartel, Sheridan, Brown, Hartley (Byrne-Jones, Broad)
MID: Fyfe, Danger, GAJ, Rocky, Parker, Libba, Gresham, Mathieson (Keays, Clarke, Phillips)
RUC:Goldy, Gawn (Wyatt)
FWD: Montagna, Dusty, Barlow, Kennedy, Kerridge, Petracca (Grimley, Adams)
Rookies could change depending if named and NAB cup form.
Still unsure on Montagna, could downgrade him to upgrade Parker to Pendles.

    Holty · 29/02/2016 at 17:32

i like the Montagna pick Liam. Big POD. if he stays injury free, i see him possibly averaging 110+ based on he wont get tagged anymore. I lime this team.

      Liam · 29/02/2016 at 20:01

Cheers Holty, I'm hopping Montagna fires early and gets me some points.

SC16 · 29/02/2016 at 17:00

still can't bloody decide. can someone please help….
which one out of
Parker Wines Sidebum
I feel like Sidebottom would be the best because he is a pod but im really not sure
thanks

    Swans2012 · 29/02/2016 at 17:20

I'm personally avoiding the pies midfield other than Pendle for now just to see how the treloars etc dust settles. Had wines from the start but found the cash to turn him into Fyfe. I think Parker is probly your man, but i wouldn't take any, don't think they are in the top 8 mids and I'm being ruthless this year. Or at least trying to…

      SC16 · 29/02/2016 at 17:38

cheers mate any reccomendations for a mid between 570-500k already got fyfe danger ablet pendles libba and rocky

        Swans2012 · 29/02/2016 at 19:46

Parker could be the one, or find some cash for gray? But you've got 6 quality midfielders and that should be enough, maybe spend the $$ on other lines?

        BKW · 29/02/2016 at 19:54

        Bont $557

    CoachDamo · 29/02/2016 at 19:16

Parker for me. I love Ollie Wines – I'm tempted to have both but leaning towards Parker at this stage.

    hedeski · 29/02/2016 at 21:54

Out of the 3 I'd say Parker.
Arguements for all but I just reckon he's most rounded/toughest player out of the 3.

3.votes · 29/02/2016 at 17:09

Need some help lads- first Tom Sherridan or James Aish as D4? Which of these 2 ruckman should I consider? Blicavs, Nic Mac, Gawn, Sam Jacobs, Mumford? Jordan degoey as a f4? And best rookies?

    Kev · 29/02/2016 at 18:10

    Sheridan.
    Jacobs, Gawn.
Not a bad option, but I think he's awkwardly priced.
Look at some of teams the community is posting for rookie ideas.

Mitch Duncan or Luke Parker as m5

    magpie4ver · 29/02/2016 at 17:29

    Grahame Lebroy · 29/02/2016 at 17:42

    Parker

    Leeds17 · 29/02/2016 at 18:58

Parker is a safer bet to go 110, But Duncan could go huge

      ben · 29/02/2016 at 22:45

      neither will go 110

        SC_Beast · 01/03/2016 at 07:22

Parker could easily go 110 he will never get tagged, can kick goals and collect contested and uncontested possessions.

you must have a lot in the bank .I have an almost identical side except goldy for gawn and a couple of rooks.I follow Melbourne and when they got gawn I was rapt 208 cms only 1cm shorter than sandi and has got better each year.his preseason has been spectacular melbournes best. going to take me a lot not to take him but its goldy good luck

      Rawkus11 · 01/03/2016 at 15:49

I think i just have a couple more High priced rookies to you Neil. All that can and probably will change before rd1 meaning Goldy is a big chance to come back into my side

    wombatsfc · 29/02/2016 at 20:53

Collins, broad, Mills, might struggle to play round 1 and McCarthy is still at home in WA I think.
Remember that Gresham, Cunningham, Mathieson, broad and Mills all need to replace somebody from the relevant teams best 22 to get a game round 1, no sub position to wean them in this year. Historically Swans don't play academy kids in the seniors round 1 no matter how good they are, as per heeney l/y.

Weitering played one practice game against a b-team and he's already in a lot of sides… Been playing SC too long for fall for that. Massive no, especially when there are cheaper, non KPP rookies that don't play for Carlton putting their hands up

    BigHaydos · 29/02/2016 at 18:23

can you give some reasoning as to why you wouldnt pick him? number one draft pick, and slots straight into a depleted carlton line up. Clean hands and loves an intercept mark. Also interested to see who you think the value defender rookies are? Cheers Kev

      Gord29 · 29/02/2016 at 18:36

has to be watched the next game looked good though and the way he plays its only going to help the ball been down there so much

      Kev · 29/02/2016 at 19:28

G'day BigHaydos, seeing you a bit around the forums, loving your contribution to the site.

Few reasons I'm not selecting him. Firstly, KPP is the big one. Even our big gun KPP's struggle for consistency, tough ask to expect that from a first year rookie.

Secondly, using history as a guide, big number 1 draft picks have rarely faired well in their first season. McCartin, Boyd, Patton, Watts, NRoo have gone at number 1 since 2000. In their first year they've only played a handful of games. Blues will play him because they've got not much else in cupboard, but they'll manage his playing load carefully.

Thirdly, what's his role at Carlton and in your SC team? That footy nous to know when to leave your opponent for the ball doesn't happen at 18 years old, and in SC, he's 220k. Which is a hell of a lot. I've used the salary calculator over at a rival site (sorry Jock!). If he averages 70 (which is generous) up until his round 13 bye he'll be 336k. A 60-65 average has him at 293k-313k

All that said I'm excited to see him out there, just he won't be making an appearance in my team

        Franklin · 29/02/2016 at 21:42

GDay Kev just wondering what site you can calculate salary on???

    tophawk · 29/02/2016 at 19:36

Weitering still worth keeping a close eye on in NAB 3. If he backs it up, then he should be worth considering. He is certainly not in my side at this stage, but that could change. In any case, the footy should be down Carlton's defensive end A LOT this season. That should bring opportunities for him. Cheers

    derek · 29/02/2016 at 21:17

Kev is right. Selecting Weitering breaks at least 4 of my 10 Supercoach rules.

The only thing he has going for him is that he is in the defence of a poor team.

      Tom · 29/02/2016 at 21:30

If not weitering then who? Not many good rookie options back there

        Holty · 29/02/2016 at 22:40

agree Tom. i think a lot of people are getting ahead of themselves without thinking what is on offer. Weitering is expensive for a rookie but he is guaranteed to play. Apart from Brown (ess) and maybe Hartley, can anyone honestly pick another rookie who you think will still be playing after 3 rounds? it may change the next few weeks and some cheap rookies might emerge but id rather pay that extra money then risk having that dreaded donut or waste 1 of those valuable trades early on.

        Derek · 01/03/2016 at 09:59

dont be surprised to see Whitecross line up round 1.

    Jambo · 29/02/2016 at 21:34

The ball will probably be spending a lot of time in the Carlton backline this year. Weitering may play quarterback role with his clean ball use and ability to grab intercept marks makes him quite fantasy relevant.

      Dean · 01/03/2016 at 23:51

I prefer HOWE over Weitering & Whitecross

        Luke · 06/03/2016 at 20:06

    Holty · 29/02/2016 at 22:43

Shak · 29/02/2016 at 19:16

Thoughts on Daniel Menzel?

    SC_Beast · 29/02/2016 at 19:34

Quality player, could be anything if he gets a fair crack at it. Not sure what his pricetag is, but he is a good selection IMO.

    tophawk · 29/02/2016 at 19:41

I have picked Menzel over Simpkin at this stage. Menzel is a gun. At 260K he is 37K more expensive than Simpkin. But after what I saw this weekend, the extra cash to get Menzel is worth it. He is obviously more injury prone, but if I he can stay on the park for a few months he would have pumped out some very big scores and done his job. A calculated risk worth taking. Cheers

      Shak · 01/03/2016 at 22:43

      Cheers guys!

Marco_Polo94 · 29/02/2016 at 19:24

Quality review as always, interesting the De gooey mention – looked dynamite the other night, but i agree that with so many players to come back in his role in the midfield is uncertain. Don't think theres been a time while I've played super coach seriously where we had so many ruck rookie options!! Love the look of Cox but again look who comes back in – moore, cloke, and then there is the fact that corey Gault played an absolute rip snorter of a half of football!! Based on my picks last season I'm backing in my gut feelings as I missed out early rounds, so personally I'm feeling big seasons from both Mitch Robinson and Jack Viney.

    Marco_Polo94 · 29/02/2016 at 19:31

Also, some advice I received on this page a while back that helped me out a lot when it came to initial team selections.. STRUCTURES! Get that down pat and it really does simplify a lot of super coach. Then it is just a matter of working out whether you want a Fyfe or a Danger… or BOTH!!

Adam · 29/02/2016 at 19:26

Thoughts and advice wanted for my team!
keeping rookies to myself 😉
B: Laird, KK, Doc, Burgoyne, Weitering, M. Brown (ess) (2 rookies)
M: Danger, Pendles, GAJ, Rockliff, Libba, Mills, Parish, Menadue (3 Rookies)
R: Goldy, Nic Nat (M.Cox)
F: Martin, Barlow, Cyril, Simpkin, Milera, Kerridge (2 Rookies)

I know the forward line is weak and that will be the first thing upgraded in season if this is my team. Thank in advance

    Marco_Polo94 · 29/02/2016 at 19:31

Not bad, personally wouldn't touch Cyril for the life of me.

    SC_Beast · 29/02/2016 at 19:36

Burgoyne is interesting, haven't seen him in many teams. Seems super consistent, the only problem is he plays in a team who share the ball around a lot and hence doesn't get those monster scores. I see burgoyne averaging 80-90.

    Adam · 29/02/2016 at 19:40

trying to go for a bit of POD with both of the mentioned players here, still having doubts on both of them.

not sure if a bartel or a rich would be better for Burgoyne
or maybe a chad wingard for Cyril?
still a few decisions before the season!
    Thanks guys 🙂

    @grayson_lowee · 29/02/2016 at 20:18

I'd honestly pick someone like a Bartel over Burgoyne, but if you're going for a POD then the best of luck of to you.

      AverageAdsy · 29/02/2016 at 20:23

Yeah I am starting to think that will be that safer option! thanks 🙂

    derek · 29/02/2016 at 21:20

If Mitchell, Lewis or Hodge gets injured, then you should consider the silky one. He doesn't really play in the guts much anymore. last year whenever one of the other three didn't play, Burgoynes numbers were outstanding, otherwise he will be 65-70 this year.

      AverageAdsy · 29/02/2016 at 21:25

and Lewis does get reported atleast 7 times a year 😉 haha

lolattack · 29/02/2016 at 19:30

Def: Laird, Bartel, Yeo, B. Smith, Malceski, M. Brown (Ess), (M. Brown (WC), Hartley)

Mid: Fyfe, Ablett, Rockliff, Parker, Liberatore, B. Crouch, Parish, Gresham (Gore, Cuningham, Mathieson)

Ruck: Martin, Naitanui (Cox)

For: Martin, Barlow, Greene, Wells, Simpkin, Kerridge (Petracca, Grimley)

Any suggestions are welcome 🙂

    SC_Beast · 29/02/2016 at 19:37

I wouldn't touch Smith at this stage, hasn't proven anything this pre season.

      lolattack · 29/02/2016 at 20:55

surely he will bounce back at some stage, mate?

        AverageAdsy · 29/02/2016 at 21:02

I thought the same, but just doesn't seem to be getting that running half back role anymore we were used too.
seems to be playing up the ground a lot more and not helping us Supercoaches 🙁

        DuckingTigers · 01/03/2016 at 21:42

That was a common and frustrating theme last year.

    Adam · 29/02/2016 at 19:46

You have spent a lot of money in the backline, id suggest downgrading Malceski to a rookie.
This will allow you to upgrade maybe a Greene to a full Premo forward, Unless you are happy with Greene that is 😉 ive had him in and out of my team but thought to go with the Premo option.
    Good team though 🙂

      lolattack · 29/02/2016 at 21:08

i've thought that too mate, but there don't seem to be too many good rookies in the backline so i'd rather field more mid and forward rookies who are more likely to score well

    Holty · 29/02/2016 at 22:51

i like your team but i question the backline. Yeo Smith and Malceski are risks. They could have great years but doubtful all will. Id select 1, maybe 2 because if they all fail to fire, you will struggle for the rest of the year trying to correct it.

Luke · 29/02/2016 at 19:43

Any advice much appreciated. Stuff all cash left.

D: Shaw, laird, bartel, aish, byrne-jones, brown (ess). Hibberd, broad.
M: fyfe, Dangerfield, Ablett, rockliff, parker, libba, mills, parish. Keays, mathieson, McPherson.
R: goldy, gawn. Grimley.
F: Barlow, zmerrett, Greene, wells, kerridge, petracca. Cox, mcdonald-tip.

Do I downgrade Shaw to to someone like simpson and upgrade a merrett or Greene to a dusty? Like the merrett selection as a bit of POD and he has been in my team since the first draft.

    'Don't Blush Babbie' · 29/02/2016 at 20:10

Agree Luke, Shaw downgrade to get Dusty , I also have Merret & Kerridge but Wells,Aish,Mills,Parish,Greene, I think too many mid pricers, cheers mate

Jambo · 29/02/2016 at 19:58

My evaluation of this year's SuperCoach crop is as follows:
1. Midfield will likely look similar for most teams but a plethora of options to score well. So it'll be easy to pick.
2. Defence could make-or-break our seasons. So, we may have to stay with the tried-and-true.
3. The Forward line has enough value available to maintain interest but enough traps to separate the good from the great players.
4. Like the Ruck, could make or break our seasons. There are a dearth of value so, the set and forget may be best. A saying comes to mind that just because somethings good doesn't mean it is better or best for us. For example, just because Lobbe's gonna play doesn't mean we should pick him over Goldstein.
If we use our common sense, we shall do well.

    AverageAdsy · 29/02/2016 at 20:05

POD players will be huge this year, like you said a lot of mids will look the same, so getting those POD will separate the good from the best!
avoiding those traps and picking the correct PODs is whats its about this year in my opinion!

    Ethan017 · 29/02/2016 at 20:42

    Love ya work buddy

@grayson_lowee · 29/02/2016 at 20:13

Thoughts on my team? Any comments would be appreciated 🙂

Def:
KK, J.Bartel, B.Smith, M.Brown (WCE) , S.Collins, R.Bonner, (M.Hartley, K.Collins)

Mid:
P.Dangerfield, G.Ablett, S.Pendelbury, T.Rockliff, O.Wines, E.Yeo, T.Liberatore, S.Kerridge, (D.Gore, C.Petracca, D.Cuningham)

Ruck:
T.Goldstein, M.Gawn, (S.Grimley)

Fwd:
H.Bennell, C.Wingard, M.Barlow, D.Wells, W.Milera, M.Brown (ESS), (N.Kommer, M.Cox)

18.7k left in the bank, am kinda feeling like im going to miss out on both the crouch brothers and J.O'Meara, but i feel like this team should do alright, and im hoping D.Wells can prove to be a bit of a POD, and ill probably upgrade him later in the year.

    AverageAdsy · 29/02/2016 at 20:20

I think you've spent a bit too much $$ in the mids, id downgrade Yeo to a rookie and spend a bit more in the back line.
id also put petracca in the FWD, there is better options in the mid to replace him.
also swap grimley with cox to strengen the forward line as grimley will probably have a better chance at round 1.
that's only my opinion so take it as you please 🙂

      @grayson_lowee · 29/02/2016 at 20:33

Thanks adsy 🙂 what midfield rookies did you have in mind to replace petracca?

        SC_Beast · 29/02/2016 at 20:39

        Mathieson, lock him in.

        AverageAdsy · 29/02/2016 at 20:40

well you could go Parish who will more than likely play round 1 due to the Essendon scandal that's if you have the $$, or you could go a cheaper option ive liked Menadue, Gresham, Mathieson and Macpherson over the NAB, just keep watching the rookies over the rest of the NAB and choose a player that you like that features in the round 1 line ups 🙂

          @grayson_lowee · 29/02/2016 at 20:50

Changed around some players, this is the new lineup, anything else you can suggest?

          Def:
          KK, R.Laird, E.Yeo, M.Brown (WCE) , S.Collins, R.Bonner, (M.Hartley, K.Collins)

          Mid:
          P.Dangerfield, G.Ablett, S.Pendelbury, T.Rockliff, O.Wines, L.Parker, T.Liberatore, S.Kerridge, (D.Gore, R.Mathieson, D.Cuningham)

          Ruck:
          T.Goldstein, M.Gawn, (S.Grimley)

          Fwd:
          H.Bennell, C.Wingard, M.Barlow, C.Petracca, M.Adams, M.Brown (ESS), (N.Kommer, M.Cox)

            AverageAdsy · 29/02/2016 at 20:59

I still think there is abit too much spent in the middle, id downgrade either parker or wines to another rookie and spend a little bit more in backline or forward line.

M.Brown (W/C) he will play games but he wont have much effect on a SC side. change him.

your premium players are good selections but maybe change a few rookies after NAB and round 1 teams are out.
            watch Bennell closely.

don't forget to swap grimley and Cox to have another scoring player at FWD
you wont need a scoring emergency ruck with that combination.

              @grayson_lowee · 29/02/2016 at 23:34

Thanks again adsy, switched brown (WC) to Weitering, although im very unsure, as i dont think he is worth the 220k, im still toying around with my team as we speak, i also switched barlow to Z.Merret and goldstein to S.Martin, with the idea that ill sideways trade him to goldstein when his price drops. Im also very conflicted as to whether i downgrade L.Parker or O.Wines, both look very good this year, who would you recommend?

    Ethan017 · 29/02/2016 at 20:39

for me too much spent in the midfield with Danger, Ablett and pendles downgrade one of them for a Parker and Yeo is an awkward midfielder much rather rate him as a defender

Liam · 29/02/2016 at 20:35

Need some help community.
Pendles and Merrett/Franklin
or
Parker and Montagna.
Leaning towards option 2, but not sure if Parker is going to be a top 10 mid.

    SC_Beast · 29/02/2016 at 20:39

Well will Merret/Franklin be a top 10 forward?

      Liam · 29/02/2016 at 20:52

I'm not sure, I can see them averaging 90-100 but not sure if they will get there.
      What are your thoughts?

    Ethan017 · 29/02/2016 at 20:41

    Not a fan of Montagna
personal view Pendles and Merrett but there are much better options out
I'm assuming one is forward and other midfield. How about a bit of Dusty and Parker which generates cash for an upgrade somewhere else
    Good luck buddy

      Liam · 29/02/2016 at 20:51

Already have Dusty. ho do you suggest then, you have 1,135,000 to choose to players.
I have Danger, Fyfe, rocky, Gaj in the mids, then Dusty and Barlow in the forward line.

wombatsfc · 29/02/2016 at 20:42

Lobb?
Lobbe is obviously a trap but what about Rory?
McCarthy is still at home in WA, Cameron has a young Jack Riewaldt attitude and is consistently breaking down and, Giants need a permanent structure up front, Rory is the current and obvious choice. Add his ruck capacity when mummy is busted or resting and his Team High 105 SC points in NAB1 and suddenly the next giants game has significant supercoach relevance.

    Liam · 29/02/2016 at 21:08

Too many mid-pricers for me, I would personally look at downgrading and upgrading a couple.

    @grayson_lowee · 29/02/2016 at 23:22

Not sure about parish and weitering, just statistically most number 1 draft picks havent been very good for SC, and i cant see them scoring any better than a rookie, id downgrade them both to 100-125k rookies and upgrade z.smith if possible, just tthought id help you out as well considering you helped on mine 🙂

who would be the better pick:
De Goey or Menzel

    gator59 · 29/02/2016 at 21:46

    IMO De Goey

    AverageAdsy · 29/02/2016 at 21:51

I loved the look of de goey on friday night! Will be a great player in a few years! The question is can he score that big and play that much midfield time with treloar and pendles in the team?

    tophawk · 29/02/2016 at 22:06

Daniel Menzel (260k) is a very special player. When fit, he can crack massive SC scores. After his performance last weekend, you have to take notice.

De Goey- (318K) is ticking all the boxes. He has DPP status. His form in the Collingwood midfield after last weekend you have to a take serious notice.

For my side, I am leaning towards Menzel and is currently in. (Over Simpkin) De Goey is out of reach pricewise for my team. Hopefully, either pick will be a good pick. Cheers.

    'Paulie Walnuts' · 29/02/2016 at 22:31

De Goey, but I don't have either atm

    Im liking this team

Im thinking your mid is a little too strong which is sacrificing your backline

Id downgrade one of your premo mids to a rookie to upgrade suckling to a premo back like kk and should leave you with alot of cash, you might be able to upgrade merrett or stringer to another premo fwd 🙂 y

Thanks , SC Beast have upgraded backline to Boyd,, Laird ,, Rance

    Bramigan · 02/03/2016 at 17:43

Bartel, burgoyne, birchall, rich or yeo?

    hedeski · 29/02/2016 at 22:24

I'm looking at McGovern as a bit of a pod James. Eagles have a few big boys back and he can play a bit more of a utility role. Proven scorer when not locking down an opponent not sure of any current injury concerns?

    Silkysaints · 02/03/2016 at 07:44

Suckling looks pretty good and i think the dogs will want the pill in his hands a lot $396,500 represents value for mine will average 80-85 i imagine.

    Suckling, Sheridan

    Keenbutclueless · 29/02/2016 at 23:43

I just put him. Same as you been considering him. I have looked at all the teams posted here and they are all so similar. So Viney is my POD. If only because I want to be different

Pops "Nut Sack" Kelly!

Steeeve · 01/03/2016 at 00:33

Not sold on any defenders to be honest. Downgraded B Smith to Weitering. Thinking he will at least make more cash since I get the feeling I'd have to upgrade Smith later on anyway. So now I have KK, Barrel, Birchall, Weitering. Too light on?

    Kev · 01/03/2016 at 07:49

How much you hoping weitering will make?

    Holty · 01/03/2016 at 08:58

not to light on Steeeve. Just make sure you have another 2 rookies in your team you feel confident will play all season otherwise i see a lot of donuts early for you.

at your M8 possie…. B crouch in for O'meara (as omeara isnt 100% fit and likely still injured)

possible watch list for your F4 possie is:
B kennedy from melbourne, couldnt get a run at pies and a vfl beast when in 2's. also scored 90 for melb other day in nab. also, milera for crows as other possible option – looks the goods, scored well for a rookie.

gives you some possible changes to tweak in the F4 role 🙂

      Big Azz · 01/03/2016 at 06:57

oh ya and if u have the change in $$$ wells could be an option there as well.

      Brandon Stainton · 01/03/2016 at 07:56

Would have Silvagni out for Weitering?
      and Houli out for Rance?
      Omeara out for De goey?
      Simpkin out for Menzel?

And another 2 questions should i take out franklin for someone else?

        Big Azz · 01/03/2016 at 08:03

        yes for weitering
possibly laird or KK instead of rance or houli
dont pick degoey.. although he scored well, he has to contend with an established and deep midfield at pies. he will likely run through there when the main mid selections are resting up forward. So it wont be big scores. whereas B crouch, well he's taking dangers spot as the contested ball magnet so he has higher ceiling in my opinion.
Simpkin over menzel. if you are tinkering look at b kennedy or milera or just keep simpkin.

        good luck!

          Big Azz · 01/03/2016 at 08:05

I spent the weekend doing a Team tracker spreadsheet, for the first 10 weeks at least. By week 10, most teams will be close to set.

I took into consideration, home or away, interstate travel, where opposition finished on ladder last year, Teams with only 5 day breaks, Corresponding game result last year, and also factored in where i think they will finish this year and came up with a game ranking out of a possible 10. (although there was 1 game where where a team scored 11/10).

A high ranking will indicate a high likelihood of victory. How this converts to Supercoach points will depend on the each team, but it is a good starting point.

I can't post the spreadsheet, but i will tray and show the results below.

There were some significant findings………vv

    Derek · 01/03/2016 at 10:35

Each Game max points is 10 (although there is no certainly in football).

I will show first, each team's score for the whole 10 games (Score will be out of 100), ranked in order.

I will then break this into the first 5 games and the second 5 games. I thought this would be significant to indicate possible cash-cows and good times to buy and sell certain players.

i tried to be as independent as possible, and based it on fairly simple variables. I have been working on the spreadsheet where the variables can be changed easily, so if someone disagrees they could easily make changes. If i get it finished i'll email it to Higgo.

          Marco_Polo94 · 09/03/2016 at 14:12

These findings make me feel even more confident in Hall. Trade him out when his draw gets tougher/players come back from injury for hopefully a big jump in price.

that is probably the only reason Lobbe is still in my team

            Marco_Polo94 · 09/03/2016 at 14:10

is that the reason you have Wingard too or do you genuinely think he is taking the next step this season?

On my watchlist too. I have even trailed a few teams with him as F3, but that's too keen.
I am confident he will improve his scoring/average this
year, but his consistency worries me. He could be a great way to upgrade to Lids.

      Benjamima Puddleduck · 01/03/2016 at 17:56

I want him, i am just not sure if he will be on for game 1.

    tophawk · 01/03/2016 at 10:56

That is very interesting. So should you be looking to get premo players into your team from those sides that score highly in the first 10 weeks? Such as Port Adelaide, Bulldogs, etc? For example, I am tossing up between Zorko and Wingard in my forward line. As Brisbane obviously have a tough start to the year, it might be strategically smarter to pick Wingard as Port are likely to score more wins early, and thus boosting the likelyhood that Wingard will score heavily? Cheers Derek

      TRIGGER HAPPY · 01/03/2016 at 11:00

That's the way I have gone. Wingard and gray and stringer and Boyd.

        tophawk · 01/03/2016 at 11:05

Did you go Sam Gray or Robbie Gray?

          TRIGGER HAPPY · 01/03/2016 at 11:10

          Robbie all the way

      Derek · 01/03/2016 at 11:07

that is what i'm thinking. Plus look at getting players later from teams like Adelaide who may have dropped in value.

IE: i am dreaming of a straight swap from Lobbe to Jacobes in round 10.

    neil · 01/03/2016 at 13:46

based on available data and dedicated algorithms I did a similar trial to place the teams in order. The problem is the data changes quickly round by round as teams and players improve such as bulldogs and the bont. Its all relevant to your data. is babe ruth a better hitter than the cheat barrie bonds not according to relevant data.. I bet Melbournes thrashing of port has relevance now .

Shaun · 01/03/2016 at 10:50

whats everyone's thoughts on Sam gray from port as a f3/4 480k forward/mid . Finished off with three big tonnes last year and an 89 in nab ??

    Swans2012 · 01/03/2016 at 11:31

I like him, working on a way to get him in I think(pending nab role in next couple) , plus it feels so much better to have a gray in the forward line, even if it isn't the one we are used to….

    PJ8 · 01/03/2016 at 11:33

Not sold on him just yet. He has great potential and looks to be a future SC premo but I want to see more before locking in at that price. I would rather see which giant will get more mid time out of Greene and D. Smith in that price range. Both have scored better over a longer period of time so some what more proven than Gray.

    John · 01/03/2016 at 11:42

is in my side, had him before nab
looks to have lifted his work rate since at a crossroads mid last year, coaches showed faith and gave him another chance
came out to average 111 over the the last 8 games after returning to the side,
has been said in PAFC interviews the coaches want to play him 80/20 as a midfielder,
good enough reasons for me, tucked away as my f3!

      DuckingTigers · 01/03/2016 at 22:08

Did he replace someone based on superior form or was he covering an injury?

        John · 02/03/2016 at 00:06

Came into ports side replacing monfries (omitted) rd18 after strong form in sanfl

played as a junior in the mid and in sanfl, he wants to be a port starting mid
knows how to win a free kick, kick to hand ball is pretty much 1:1
monfries out and form in nab is strong indication he will play more mid than fwd
pretty much played in a full port mid on the weekend and looked good

Davo · 01/03/2016 at 11:07

Is 7 Essendon players too many?…. I have Hartley, Dea, Brown, Parish Grimley Simpkin and Kommer…they are spread across all 4 lines….How many do others have??????

    Big Ballsd · 01/03/2016 at 11:11

    Currently got 5 , I think 7 is a bit much . 5 max imo

    PJ8 · 01/03/2016 at 11:27

I have 3 currently but that number has changed every day. I think 7 is too much as well

    Bg G · 01/03/2016 at 13:16

I suppose if they are just cash cows you can trade them out come bye time.

    Derek · 01/03/2016 at 13:56

i don't think it matters much. I try and limit me Keepers to only max two per team, but the rookies and mid-pricers doesn't matter as long as they make you cash!

Thoughts on Laird and Atkins from Adelaide please

    Holty · 01/03/2016 at 13:21

Laird is now locked in my side. I think he will be the go to person coming out of the backline now that Smith has started so poorly. I think Atkins though will be a miss for me. Much better value out there.

Holty · 01/03/2016 at 13:29

Danger or Pendlebury? And why

    Ethan017 · 01/03/2016 at 13:33

Danger, kicks more goals and can go massive

    Grahame Lebroy · 01/03/2016 at 13:48

Danger. Think he is in for a big year. Pendles is a gun, but my thoughts are that his average could dip slightly this year

    Derek · 01/03/2016 at 13:53

i've had Pendlebury in my team all year. he was just one of the first ones i picked based on his past seasons. This year he is fitter than any of the past 3 years when he has been carrying an injury.

I've always considered him one of the Ultra premiums of Supercoach (Gaz, fyfe, Selwood the others)

Dangerfield was in the next bracket, with Priddis, JPK & Rocky.

That will be my final team if all works out.

there are others who are in the next bracket, Parker, Beams, Hanners, Gray, Sloane and one of them may take the next step to Ultra premiumhood.

Dangerfield was a maybe starter in my team, new club etc, but after the weekend he is now locked. as well as pendlebury!

You can't go wrong with either, but i would suggest you get both.

      Mighty_Hondo · 03/03/2016 at 01:21

Great advice Derek. If you had to choose between Jelwood and Sloane, which way would you go?

      Cheers

    Bg G · 01/03/2016 at 14:22

Pendels more reliable to get to 100 week in and week out, but Danger more chance to go big and win you a game

    TRIGGER HAPPY · 01/03/2016 at 14:32

I have danger simply because he torched me a couple of times last year not being in my team so made a vow this year he's in. Pendles will probably find his way in after the bye as pies r first up. Can't afford Em all. Both quality can't go wrong with either IMHO.

If you have sc gold what is your proj score for rd1?

Ewing · 01/03/2016 at 14:39

Thoughts on my team
DEF: Shaw, Laird, Mcveigh, Aish, Brown Hartley./// Collins, Bonner

Mid: Danger, Pendles, Ablett, Rockliff, Cripps, Parish, Gresham,Kerridge/// Matthieson, Cunningham Gore

Ruck: Stefan martin, Z.smith/// Wyatt

Forward: Martin, Wingard, Barlow, Greene, Millera, Cockatoo/// Petracca, Grimley

Every year there are tempting mid priced options, and nearly always none of them work out. I have gotten guns and rookies as it is proven. Although I have 3 midpricers in Greene, Z smith, Aish. Im hoping one of greene and smith is a keeper and then I can upgrade the latter one to a premium for a couple extra k. Aish will generate at least around 180k for me and should be good. Id love some thoughts and I only have 12k left. Cheers community

    Derek · 01/03/2016 at 14:55

first team i've seen without Libba? What is your reason there?

      Ewing · 01/03/2016 at 14:58

Although Libba represents tremendous value. I cant see him missing a whole year and coming back and getting back to his high average, I reckon parish represents better value with a projected 75-85 average. Unless liberatore plays 1 of the nab matches and scores 90+ I wont be putting him in.

    Holty · 01/03/2016 at 16:26

do you think Aish will average 85?

hedeski · 01/03/2016 at 14:42

most of my setups have been 1750 – 1810.

Peter · 01/03/2016 at 14:58

Is Andy Otten, Adelaide defender in the frame to play early this season?

    Shane · 02/03/2016 at 13:15

Otten, following a knee reconstruction during 2015 resumed training but suffered a further setback and will miss the start of the 2016 season. Bad luck for him and for Supercoachers as he was cheaply priced at $148K. Let us hope Libba's comeback is OK.

Nic Nat vs Gawn for R2? What're peoples thoughts?

Peter · 02/03/2016 at 10:04

Absolute toss of the coin. Gawn's demolition of Lobbe verses Nit Nat's wonderful Summer preparation. The latter, because he is part of a much stronger team. However, Goldy is a must so either one because they both have the round 14 bye.

Robert · 02/03/2016 at 13:21

Well put Peter. I am now going Goldy and Nit Nat – expensive but definite keepers so that is one line I can forget about.

murray · 02/03/2016 at 13:49

here is my revised team

def Laird, Bartel, Birchall, McGovern, MBrown(ess), S Collins (KCollins Hewett)

mid Pendles, Ablett, Fyfe, Dangerfield, Rockliff, Libba, Parish, Petracca (Mathieson, Hibberd, McPherson)

Ruck Nicnat, Gawn (Wyatt)

fwd Zorko, Barlow, Z Merrett, DeGoey, Kerridge, Cox (Phillips, Tipungwuti)

I have tried to go 4 keepers in backline, 5 keepers in mids, 2 keepers in rucks and 4 keepers in fwds (assuming degoey plays to the level I expect). That makes 15 keepers with the rest to make cash. The theory behind this team is to minimise trades and pick keepers that I think will excel and play the full season.

Please leave your honest appraisal on this team. Let me know what you think
