NAB ANALYSIS: Fremantle v Adelaide
Can Matt Crouch collect the pill or what?
We’ve all been gagging to hear news on his brother Brad who is up against it to be ready for Round 1. In the meantime Matt has emerged with consecutive NAB performances in which he’s had the thing on a string.
Fremantle: David Mundy, Hayden Ballantyne, Harley Bennell, Zac Clarke
Adelaide: Eddie Betts, Brad Crouch, Sam Jacobs, Scott Thompson, Taylor Walker
Matt Crouch MID $368K ran all day and walked off with red Sherrin stained palms. Very difficult proposition at this price and with uncertainty around where he fits in an Adelaide team with a full team on the deck. Interested in your thoughts on this one community – who has him in the crosshairs as a midpriced mid option? 26 disposals with an arousing 17 of them being kicks.
Rory Laird DEF $506K killed them across half back. Had 29 possessions at 90% efficiency and appears to have added some condition onto that torso of his. A genuine DEF premium option for mine after this performance. He is making it very difficult to lock in Brodie Smith with any confidence – Laird now looks the obvious half back running option at Adelaide. Has a well rounded complete game and was so bloody clean with his disposal today. Would not be surprised if he improves on his 2015 breakout Supercoach average of 93 last year. Consider.
Brodie Smith DEF/MID $415K had 34 Supercoach points to half time but didn’t take part in the game after that. Word is he was crook in the rooms – could have been a bit of heat stress. Not a good sign given how many whacks he copped to the scone last year. Drifting quickly off my DEF watchlist now.
Paul Seedsman DEF/MID $324K did a few nice things – looked bloody great drilling one onto Sloane’s tit for a goal at one point and drilled the ball inside the forward 50 six times. Improved as the game wore on. Have not seen enough to get me aroused. No for me at this stage. 15 disposals today.
Dean Gore MID $124K impressed me last week so was looking forward to seeing that neon red head of his trotting around today. Sat his arse on the bench till half time and only collected the 4 handballs for the game. Impressed by his brilliant tackling in the dying seconds of the game when the win was on the line. Might be just a bees dick away from best 22 at this stage.
Wayne Milera FWD $176K had 52 Supercoach points to half time and continues to impress. The kid is so clean, calm and cool under pressure. A hell of a pick up for Adelaide. Had a spell off the ground after half time but returned later on to continue on his way just how he left off. Will find himself into plenty of teams nonetheless. 9 touches and 5 marks.
Troy Menzel was quiet and won’t justify his price tag as a midpriced forward. Rory Sloane eased into the season beautifully and was as prolific as always. Can’t wait to see how he gets on without Danger in the guts. Rory Atkins put his hand up once again for some midfield time for the Crows with 24 posessions and will tempt some as a $303K Supercoach midfield option.
Nat Fyfe MID $670K was majestic. Absolutely majestic. Don’t worry about that injury cloud hanging over him – he is cherry ripe and good to go. 26 disposals and 10 clearances to this beautiful beast. I’d spoon him without thinking about it twice.
Michael Barlow FWD/MID $503K lined up in a stack of centre bounces which is what we want to see. Remains locked pretty solidly into my starting FWD line in all formats. 19 possessions including 8 tackles.
Tommy Sheridan DEF $351K continued on after a solid NAB1 with a cracking performance here today. Probably needs to hit our watch lists coming into round 1 community. A massive 28 possessions at 90% DE. Was constructive and efficient with his ball use all day. An emerging human of fantasy significance.
Zac Dawson DEF $222K had 3 telling uncontested handballs. Not hard to see why Ross has rated him so highly during his time at St. Kilda and moved heaven and earth to get him to Fremantle.
Now I’ve started hitting the piss so I’ll pass it on over to you community. What did you extract from the game?
