Supercoach AFL Fantasy 2016 Podcast

The good. The bad. The rookies.

How good is it to have the footy back community! This week we talk through the good, the bad and the rookies that provided us with some fantasy relevance in the first weekend of NAB Challenge clashes.

We saw many teams head out with reserves teams which was disappointing, but there was plenty of significance there for the extracting.

Enjoy the show, and remember:

What did you extract out of the weekend community?

Marry me Jock

    jockreynolds · 22/02/2016 at 13:08

Gday there SC. I'd like to think I'm married to all of you blokes. Locked together in fantasy fellowship and bretherenship. Great to have you around the place mate.

      Supercoach Central · 22/02/2016 at 13:14

      love ya maaaaate

    @jstorm311 · 22/02/2016 at 13:43

I'm shotgunning the first spoon. Nothing like a moustache tickling the back of your shoulder at night.

Jack · 22/02/2016 at 13:06

You are the reason i play Supercoach Jock Reynolds Community. An absolute pleasure to come home to this page every afternoon.

    jockreynolds · 22/02/2016 at 13:08

And it's an absolute pleasure to guide you on your path to glory Jack. You're a good egg

      Gold Rush · 23/02/2016 at 17:13

I'm with Jack Jock, you guys give it the xfactor that make it a pleasure to play!

Fox · 22/02/2016 at 13:06

Awesome jock ! I was very disappointed in Yeo , but not quite prepared scratch him after 1 nab ,,, and what everyone thoughts on Milera ? Round 1 certainty ?

    Kev · 22/02/2016 at 14:48

Same here, Fox. He could have stood up in weak eagles unit. Not ditching him yet because it's nab and he did some good things last year which excited me. Needs to put in a solid afternoon's work though

      Jambo · 23/02/2016 at 10:28

In an Eagles team without their best onballers, Yeo's performance is no surprise. He's still a great pick.

    Gold Rush · 23/02/2016 at 17:16

I've scrubbed him, as a young upcoming footy pro that he is meant to be – that effort may point to an attitude problem.

Boomers16 · 22/02/2016 at 13:12

Had Parker locked from the start – can play and still young – same goes for Quadzilla

    Patch · 22/02/2016 at 14:57

Beautiful work Boomers. I've got both as well mate – love watching the young guys burst out of the blocks.

    neil · 22/02/2016 at 15:52

    who is quadzilla

      SCaddict · 22/02/2016 at 17:16

      Ollie Wines.

Have you seen that leg development?! 🙂

    Supercoach Central · 22/02/2016 at 19:49

    got both aswell

    fatboyfat7 · 22/02/2016 at 20:00

Me too mate and now so will everyone else…!

    tophawk · 23/02/2016 at 20:14

I agree 100% with you. I have both Parker and Wines in my side. Like you say, they are both young and hungry and at a discount price. I prefer players which are young and moving into their prime. I have Sam Docherty and Dane Rampe in my backline. Both are great value with strong SC scoring upside for the coming season. Cheers

Gord29 · 22/02/2016 at 13:16

First team will be loads of changes before round one but just want to see what people think off it

BACKS – Houli Yeo Smith Malceski Asih Brown (ess) Bench- Francis Brown (wce)
MID – Ablett Shiel Rockliff Wines Liberatore Crouch Parish Kerridge
Bench – Freeman Polkinghorne Cunningham
RUCKS – Mumford Lobbe
Bench – Grimley
FWDS – Martin Bennell Westhoff Greene Anderson Simpkin
Bench – Kommer Petracca

    Keenbutclueless · 22/02/2016 at 23:49

Too many 200k players have left you one premo short in midfield. Really think Libba is M6 not M5. Playing Lobbe brings in Crouch at M7. Being one midfield premo short also means that Ablett and Rockliff are your only captain choices.

    Ethan017 · 23/02/2016 at 13:36

    Bennell for Barlow.

      Gord29 · 23/02/2016 at 14:45

I'm liking bennell at the moment he is going to be a POD and i reckon he will come out with a bang due to the offseason he has had

        poop · 23/02/2016 at 14:55

He hasnt trained with the main group all preseason so…….

          Gord29 · 23/02/2016 at 14:59

i thought he had returned to training my mistake might look at moving him on then thanks

Gaveday · 22/02/2016 at 13:18

Between Shiels and Parker for me, parker hurt me last year, not quiet to the levels of Daniel Rich, but enough for me to think twice.

    Patch · 22/02/2016 at 14:59

Both have a lot of upside Gavey. Like that you've plucked Shiel out of the mix – I've had my eye on him from day dot. A lot of Chris Judd about him.

      Gaveday · 22/02/2016 at 15:03

His scores last season say enough. I love the way parker goes about it, but I don't think I can go both without sacrificing elsewhere.

      My current starting mid is

      Ablett – shiels
      Rockliff wines gibbs
      Libba omeara crouch

Just give me the award already!

        Sana · 23/02/2016 at 14:52

    SCaddict · 22/02/2016 at 17:20

Yes I reckon Shiels, Parker and Wines are all very tough to split. All 3 could take their game to the next level in 2016.

I can probably only accommodate one in my side and at this stage it's Parks but the other two look very attractive options indeed.

      Billy · 22/02/2016 at 18:50

Can we just clarify. Are you guys talking about Liam Shiels? Or are you making a mistake with spelling Dylan Shiel?

        Gaveday · 22/02/2016 at 18:58

        Yeah Dylan Shiel.
The other one can take a long walk off a short plank.

          Billy · 22/02/2016 at 19:14

Bit harsh. Liam Shiels is incredibly underrated.

        SCaddict · 22/02/2016 at 20:21

My apology lads but I meant Dylan Shiel too. Love the way the kid attacks the game.

      Average Joe · 22/02/2016 at 18:51

What about Dylan Shiel? Saw a vid on facebook and he looks like an absolute tank

        SCaddict · 22/02/2016 at 20:23

Yes rate him highly. Will be in at least one of my various fantasy sides (Supercoach, RDT, AFL Fantasy).

'Don't Blush Babbie' · 22/02/2016 at 13:29

Love Wayno's tip of R.Conca – Its between him and Wells atm for me for that Mid Price FWD / MID

    Derek · 22/02/2016 at 15:44

it is between Simpkin and Conca for me. At the moment i have Simpkin, only becasue he is cheaper

Heath Kingham · 22/02/2016 at 13:35

hi Jock – with the sub rule gone, everyone is banging on about how previously sub-effected players will be mini cash cows. What i havent seen however is any analysis regarding the fact that due to reduced rotations, some blokes will infact spend a lot more time on the pine like the old days. Do you think it will be the rookies, or maybe back- up ruckman who will ride the pine and only get 40% TOG etc.

murray · 22/02/2016 at 13:55

Hi community, thoughts on this team please

thought would be appreciated

Sarah · 22/02/2016 at 14:11

Great Podcast guys! I'm also worried about Yeo's performance. He was lazy yesterday against the crows, but as you say there was definitely no structure to the eagles play. He did attend centre bounces, but this was dominated by the crows. Will watch closely in his next match. As a crows supporter I'm very excited about Milera's performance! He's highly likely to debut in round 1, although the squeeze will be on with Cameron and Menzel to come into the side. Very eager to see him play NAB 2.
Does anyone know where I can get he time on ground stats for the Gold Coast v Lions game? The AFL website is showing them all at 100% which is obviously incorrect!!

    Derek · 22/02/2016 at 15:47

Yeo is in my team, but i'm not convinced. I was hopeful that he would get more midfield time with mastern getting injured, so i'm happy that happened. But i would have liked he got more of the footy, will be watching close.

    Redgumwon · 22/02/2016 at 20:00

Maybe at the AFL site in the game stats section but not 100% sure if they will or not

    Redgumwon · 22/02/2016 at 20:02

Yep it is at the AFL site. Look at TG is the time spent on ground

      SCaddict · 22/02/2016 at 23:07

      No good mate.

It all reads 100% across the board as Sarah mentioned.

        Redgumwon · 23/02/2016 at 07:34

It's not up and running then. Sorry to have sent you on a goose chase. I thought the AFL would have had it up and running by now

'Don't Blush Babbie' · 22/02/2016 at 14:29

Fan Footy is also showing 100% for this game whereas every other game looks ok

mick · 22/02/2016 at 14:32

backlines a bitch h shaw is the only premium i trust but 600 grand is it to much jock iam starting to doubt it whats ur thought guru

Ethan017 · 22/02/2016 at 14:35

anyone know a rookie defender max price around 275k already have Francis and Dea

And also a forward max 450k thinking of Jack Martin. Thoughts??

    Sarah · 22/02/2016 at 14:36

If you can find another 8k, Harwood from Brisbane looks a good pick up if he can remain injury free.

    Gord29 · 22/02/2016 at 14:36

    PJ8 · 22/02/2016 at 15:04

Aish played wing in the Pies intra-club.

If he looks like he will play there come round 1 he will be in my side. $275k Defender playing wing will be a bonus.

    Patch · 22/02/2016 at 15:22

Aish probably the go, but I've got Fantasia, Luke McDonald and Daniel Howe jockeying for spots as well.

    Captain Obvious · 22/02/2016 at 16:31

    Average Joe · 22/02/2016 at 18:54

If you need a fwd under 450 go greene or stringer

Nars · 22/02/2016 at 14:38

Parker or Sloane is keeping me up at night

    mick · 22/02/2016 at 14:40

toss a coin maybe parker better side

      Nars · 22/02/2016 at 14:43

Currently have Sloane but we will wait and see. My team structure is delicately poised re Jaeger O’Mearas fitness

    Holty · 22/02/2016 at 14:45

Parker as I feel Sloane will get extra attention this year with the loss of Danger

    PJ8 · 22/02/2016 at 14:57

Parker has so many others to share points with. Hanners, JPK & Mitchell.

      Holty · 22/02/2016 at 15:24

It has been rumoured that Sydney plan on using JPK more up forward this year. This has come from both JPK and Sydney staff. Not sure as to why you would take one of the best contested footballers out of the middle but might be something to think about.

        mick · 22/02/2016 at 15:50

thatmeans parker and mitchell might be great pods

        PJ8 · 22/02/2016 at 15:50

Heard that as well. Surely playing games with everyone. JPK is far too good at contested footy. If anything you would think Mitchell and Parker may rest more forward than him.

          Derek · 22/02/2016 at 16:09

          that is just silly.

          Vinnymac · 22/02/2016 at 23:36

I'm also feeling that Titch and Parker will spend more time up forward, especially if the swans already have tall targets up forward in Franklin and Tippett

        Captain Obvious · 22/02/2016 at 16:34

That just means that instead of going to the bench for a rest he'll go forward for a few minutes. Not every time but often enough to allow those team mates with smaller engines to rotate more frequently. JPK will spend more time forward but he will also spend just as much time in the middle as he did last year

    Derek · 22/02/2016 at 15:55

Crows have a tough start to the year.

North, Port, Tigers, Swans, Hawks, Fremantle, Dogs, Cats.

I'll be looking at getting players like Sloane, Jacobes etc as an upgreade. They might even drop in price.

    Mike · 22/02/2016 at 21:45

Sloane will get tagged all year. Swans always start slow. Neither?

Holty · 22/02/2016 at 14:44

Parker or Quadzilla? This will be my final midfield spot.

    Sarah · 22/02/2016 at 14:53

That's a decision I'm grapling with as well. Hoping to fit both in.

      Holty · 22/02/2016 at 15:03

I wish I could but cant unfortunately. Already have 4 premos and Liba and not wanting to adjust that. Plus if I take a premo out from another position, it leaves those positions weak. So many choices this year. I swear by the time the season starts, I'll be bald.

        Sarah · 22/02/2016 at 15:08

I think we'll all by bald by round 1!

        Sana · 23/02/2016 at 14:58

The points aren't broken up by position mate, if you think Quadz or Parker will score more than a premo in another position, get them in!

    PJ8 · 22/02/2016 at 14:58

    murray · 22/02/2016 at 15:32

    DuckingTigers · 22/02/2016 at 16:48

If it's windy or raining I'd consider Parker, otherwise I'd prefer Wines.

    Shake n bake · 22/02/2016 at 18:19

    I have both.

    hedeski · 22/02/2016 at 22:07

Parker for me holty have wingard fwd and no other swans. He is a machine.

      Dee · 23/02/2016 at 00:22

Dice · 22/02/2016 at 15:25

Who to go between D. Wells and J. Simpkin in forward??
Would love to hear ppls thoughts on K. Tippett beside Goldstein in the ruck and loved the Malceski call.
'He needs to remember his roots……and also where he came from' HAHA
That must be all he's doing up north

    PJ8 · 22/02/2016 at 15:37

Simpkin for me, a lot have Wells but can't see him being great, has not played a lot of footy in recent years. Simpkin will love the amount of opportunity he will get at the Dons. After having a frustrating time at the Hawks.

Like Tippett, i have had him in and out of F4 for a few weeks. Just want to see what sort of role he will have. More Ruck or more Forward? Think it will be better him in forward line though. Create a DPP link with 2 premos. Then look at a Martin, Mumford, Jacobs, Nicnat, Lobbe along with Goldy.

      'Don't Blush Babbie' · 22/02/2016 at 15:56

Ruck bye schedule – Goldy,Martin,Jacobs,Sandi & Blicavs all have round 15 Byes – I've gone Goldy & Nic Nat

        PJ8 · 22/02/2016 at 16:33

        Jacobs doesn't

    MC · 22/02/2016 at 18:02

    Leeds17 · 22/02/2016 at 18:47

Here's how i see it, Simpkin pretty much guaranteed to make you 150K but also guaranteed to not be a keeper, Wells on the other hand could injury himself in the warm up before the R1 game and never be seen of again but he could also make you 200k or even do a Higgins and average 100 and be a keeper.

      hawkeye · 22/02/2016 at 19:52

when was the last time wells ave over 90?

        Leeds17 · 22/02/2016 at 19:56

2014, last season he was fit.

          Leeds17 · 22/02/2016 at 19:56

    Mike · 22/02/2016 at 21:58

Tippet was in red hot form end of last campaign. Killing them in the ruck and kicking well up forward. I think he’s better in the middle than Sinclair so will spend slightly more time there than forward I reckon. If Sinclair wasn’t there Tippet would be in a lot more teams including mine. Still it’s hard to leave him out when Leuy is the alt fwd/ruc cover.
I’m wondering if I should just go with Goldy and Lobbe with no cover except a rookie who won’t play.
What I’d REALLY like is a Goldy, Mummy ruck combo. That could go 300 on any given weekend. But Mummy is so injury prone due to his awesome style of play.

SammyC · 22/02/2016 at 15:27

jock higgo and crouching i love your podcasts every week. the first round of beers are on me gentlemen. top stuff 🙂

    jockreynolds · 22/02/2016 at 15:44

Thanks Sammy! Great to have you here mate

Tom · 22/02/2016 at 15:33

So who do we think are the must have midfield rookies at the moment?

    PJ8 · 22/02/2016 at 15:53

    My opinion:

    Gresham and Mathieson atm.

Other i'm still up in the air – Gore, Keays, Jansen???

      David · 22/02/2016 at 18:20

      Not jenson.

      Valks · 22/02/2016 at 21:12

    Derek · 22/02/2016 at 16:07

Kerridge & Petracca are both FWD eligible, they will be starting in my team.

    Mathieson seems a likely selection.

I'm keen on having a look at Maccaffer who is rookie priced at $177k.

      SCaddict · 22/02/2016 at 21:16

If Caff can be released from his previous tagging role he could turn into a nice little earner with good JS.

Seems keen to play more of an attacking forward role this season, from what I've heard, but it really comes down to how Bucks wants to use him. Also not the most durable player out there.

But regardless one to keep a close eye on over the next month at his rookie price.

    LuskinStar · 23/02/2016 at 00:09

    Clarke fro North

Seps Champs · 22/02/2016 at 15:37

We love you Jock, Higgo & Crouching!
My trousers are stretched and my gooch is saturated.

PJ8 · 22/02/2016 at 15:47

Thoughts on R. Laird???

Seems a POD and had a very impressive year last year. Currently have him D2, going for a different pick than Bartel as plenty have him and think Laird can outscore him and play more games obviously.

    Stirlsy · 22/02/2016 at 16:17

Like it PJ8, he seemed to be the guy running off h/back in the first half yesterday, Smith took that over more after half time but his disposal was poor compared to Laird's.
Got Laird in my option 2 backline and im liking the look of that more then my option 1

      PJ8 · 22/02/2016 at 16:22

Yeah i will be still selecting B. Smith as well as Laird so I'm going to look closely at both of their roles.

        Marcus · 22/02/2016 at 17:36

Been in my team since the start

    fatboyfat7 · 22/02/2016 at 20:08

My biggest POD this year is Johannisen. Haven't seen him mentioned ANYWHERE at all. Good year 2015 and there's some aging boys around which might mean his young legs get more responsibility. At 23/24 I reckon he could be in a significant year… I was going to go with B Smith but I have to back myself in here. If I was right about JJ and didn't select him I'd be furious with myself. Fingers crossed.

    Danners · 22/02/2016 at 21:23

Looked good, considering him if he plays the same role when the best team is out there

Patrick · 22/02/2016 at 16:10

Jacobs and Liberatore OR Lobbe and Bontempelli. Lobbe and Liberatore are both bound to raise in price but I reckon Bontempelli will take things to a new level this year. With liberatore returning it will bolster him even more and eleviate the tag that was laid upon him. I still remember us discussing that picking liberatore was a huge mistake (before he got injured), because he couldnt handle a tag. Once he returns and bangs out a couple 100+ scores other teams will start putting a tagger on him and limit his scoring, allowing the buffonted one to run around freely. Thoughts community?

    Stirlsy · 22/02/2016 at 16:51

Agree with PJ8 Patrick Jacobs and Libba, iv gone off the Lobbe bandwagon…

    Holty · 22/02/2016 at 16:55

Agree with PJ8. with your first choice, you are potentially locking in 2 keepers for the rest of the season. Although I see the Bonts having a great year, neither he or Lobbe have ever had a premo year.

PJ8 · 22/02/2016 at 16:19

Jacobs and Libba. Can't see Libba being a mistake, he's proven. Average of 110 previously.
Also don't think Lobbe will be great, still not proven with the new ruck point allocation

Tom · 22/02/2016 at 16:41

How many out of Ablett, Pendles, Danger and Fyfe should we be selecting?

I currently have 3 in pendles, fyfe and gazza but not sure if I should go for someone else like wines/parker or not

    Mac · 22/02/2016 at 16:48

If it helps my current mid is Fyfe, Pendles, Ablett, Rockliff, Wines

      Tom · 22/02/2016 at 16:50

      Yeah mines similar Mac.

I cant decide between wines, parker and shiel so I'm trying to fit 2 in. Not sure if I should sacrifice a proven uber premium like pendles though

        Mac · 22/02/2016 at 16:54

yeah look, I've gone for players who in my eyes will end as a top 10 midfielder, and I honestly believe with a bit of luck, Wines will be at 600k by the end of the year.

    Holty · 22/02/2016 at 17:20

Would love all of them Tom as they will all potentially be top8 come seasons end. I have 2 of them but may have the 3rd if some extra defensive rookies appear on the radar. My order is with reasons:
    Ablett (Need I say more)
Fyfe (Could potentially average 10 points more than the 2 players below)
Pendles (With the addition to a few players to strengthen Collingwoods midfield, he may spend more time elsewhere)
Danger (May take a few games to get settled at new club)
Only my opinion but it may help you select/not select these players.
    Good luck

    SCaddict · 22/02/2016 at 18:00

You're better off sticking with the proven elites if you can afford them.

However if the $100K in savings in 'downgrading' to say a Parker really makes a MAJOR difference elsewhere in your team then you should definitely consider that.

But until the rookie/midpricer picture fully shakes out over the next month you can drive yourself crazy thinking too much about these sorts of nuances right now.

      TRIGGER HAPPY · 22/02/2016 at 22:51

      Going big in the mids.

As it stands after the weekend :

Fyfe, danger, abs, gray, rocky, libba, crouch and mills.

      Pending form/injuries of course.

Tempted to go parker, wines or adams but who do you drop?

Like em all so cant fit the breakouts in.

        SCaddict · 22/02/2016 at 23:01

Yes Trigger loading up with elite mids (and perhaps rucks too) looks the way to go this season subject to final rookie distribution.

          TRIGGER HAPPY · 22/02/2016 at 23:09

Yep got the 2 big boys in the ruck as well.

Plenty of value up fwd and middys in def ie smith and yeo etc.
cooled on malceski, i think salem could b the one this year.

    @t_woof · 22/02/2016 at 19:23

    Two, Fyfe and Ablett.

Sitting on Fyfe, Ablett, Rockliff, Joel Selwood, Parker, Liberatore, Rook, Rook right now.

      Holty · 23/02/2016 at 08:57

similar to mine t woof. liba is my m6. i feel if you load up to heavily in the mids, you will be chasing your tail trying to get to full premo.

    Titan · 22/02/2016 at 20:52

    Ive gone similar
I have pendles ablett jpk shiel rocky and libba and my main mids
I think if you can get as many of yhe best of the best in you have to do it
But i was looking at downgrading jpk for parker/wines so i can use elsewhere
    Not sure yet

    Danners · 22/02/2016 at 21:27

You will get Dangerfield and Fyfe under $600k when you need to upgrade, both are risky picks

      @t_woof · 22/02/2016 at 21:29

      You could be right Danners.

Dangerfield is definitely an upgrade target for me. Want to see how he fits into Geelong.

Fyfe, i'm happy to pay a premium. Gives me 3 man weave of captain choice each week having him, Gaz & Goldstein in starting squad.

        The Ranger · 22/02/2016 at 23:39

Currently have Ablett, Danger, Pendles, Priddis, Libba, Crouch, Rookie
I really wanna get Fyfe in but can't decide how to do it yet…I'd have to lose one of the other big guns to make it happen and can't pinpoint which one yet.

      Holty · 23/02/2016 at 09:02

great in theory but how will you come up with the money? if your plan is to wait til the bye rounds then yes, i like it. everything needs to line up perfectly to do this though if we are planning to get them both before then.

    Rawkus11 · 23/02/2016 at 16:01

I've got three (Fyfe, Gaz, Pendles) along with Rocky, Parker and libba with 2 rooks filling the last 2 spots. Hopefully can set and forget the majority of my midfield and my rucks (Goldy and Nic Nat) and concentrate on getting my bookends up to premo by the byes

Captain Obvious · 22/02/2016 at 16:44

I don't remember anybody at this site has ever suggesting that Libba couldn't handle a tag.
In 2013 (his 3rd season) he averaged 107 and was the 11th top scorer in supercoach. The following year the tag moved from Boyd to Libba and Libbas average went to 110 and he was the 7th top scorer in supercoach.
Seems that he performed better after attracting the tag and is probably the only midfielder to ever accomplish that feat

Mac · 22/02/2016 at 16:47

Whens the next cheat sheet out?

    Krups · 22/02/2016 at 17:58

Gee ease up sunshine. Next one may be after nab round 2 or even round 3. Not a lot to get out of the round just gone so probably wouldn't be much to change.

      Mac · 22/02/2016 at 19:03

Just keen mate! Surely nothing wrong with being eager?

        jockreynolds · 22/02/2016 at 21:00

Nothing wrong with a bit of trouser swellage! Probably next week matye

Ewing · 22/02/2016 at 17:09

Bontempelli, Parker , Wines. I cant keep all 3 I need to get rid of 1. Thoughts community?

    Holty · 22/02/2016 at 17:38

ive selected wines in my team but they all have massive potential. i think wines and parker will average more but they are both coming off injury affected seasons. i honestly believe you will be happy whatever choice you decide.

    Ethan017 · 22/02/2016 at 17:55

    Bontempelli out

    Danners · 22/02/2016 at 21:24

Bont, too big of a risk

      Dee · 23/02/2016 at 00:23

      the Bont….

Mac · 22/02/2016 at 17:47

Thoughts on my team?

KK, Bartel, Smith, Yeo, Broad, S.Collins, K.Collins, Brown
Ablett, Pendles, Fyfe, Rockliff, Wines, Libba, Hopper, Gresham, Cuningham, Keays, Mathieson
Goldstein, Nic Nat, Wyatt
Martin, Zorko, Barlow, Kennedy, Petracca, Kerridge, Grimley, Adams

5k left in the bank.

Can easily get rid of Smith/Yeo/Bartel for Aish and upgrade a fwd rookie to Simpkin.

    Ethan017 · 22/02/2016 at 17:55

Downgrade Fyfe or Pendles to Parker/Selwood/Cripps. Use cash to upgrade rookie to Brad Crouch

      Mac · 22/02/2016 at 18:07

Thanks for the feedback Ethan, but as I said above, I'm trying to pick mids who will finish top 10. Parker and Cripps don't fit that bracket in my eyes but Selwood will come close but is under an injury cloud. Thanks for the feedback though 🙂

    Kev · 22/02/2016 at 18:04

Love the structure of this team, Mac. Keays didn't do much yesterday and probably won't get a gig round 1. Hopefully we see Cuningham next week. Fingers crossed your backline premiums start showing something!

Ethan017 · 22/02/2016 at 17:57

Forward option under 350k?? Already have Simpkin and Kerridge

    SCaddict · 22/02/2016 at 18:06

Wells, Conca, Petracca and Leuey (if healthy) would be on my short list.

    Shake n bake · 22/02/2016 at 18:25

    Danners · 22/02/2016 at 21:24

Dump Simpkin to a rookie and get Greene

Tom · 22/02/2016 at 18:08

Going BIG in the midfield this year

Let me know what you think!

KK, Bartel, B.Smith, Wigg, Brown, Hartley (broad, 102k)

Fyfe, Pendles, GAJ, Rockliff, Wines, Parker, Libba, Gore (mathieson, freeman, macpherson)

Goldy, Martin (grimley)

Dusty, Barlow, Franklin, Wells, Kerridge, Petracca (Kommer, Galucci)

rookies are subject to change and only about 8k left in the kitty

what are we thinking??

    Shake n bake · 22/02/2016 at 18:29

Not bad Tom, I'd change kk to Birchall & freeman won't start.

      Tom · 22/02/2016 at 21:38

Cheers mate. Might wait to see what KK can deliver in nab2 but yeah Birchall is definitely on my watchlist.

    CoachDamo · 22/02/2016 at 18:55

I'd look at changing one of KK or Brodie Smith. Both speculative – if neither of them fire your backline will struggle.

      Tom · 22/02/2016 at 21:40

Was thinking the same thing Damo. Cheers mate!

    Holty · 22/02/2016 at 19:46

gee tom, im amazed you managed to get all those mids in and still look strong in other positions. Looks a strong side. i guess the only problem is generating enough cash from the rookies as there arent many in the mids. apart from that, looks great

      'Don't Blush Babbie' · 22/02/2016 at 20:35

Goldy & Martin have the same bye, you might need Nic Nac or Jacobs

      Tom · 22/02/2016 at 21:17

Yeah I was suprised too. Think its because I went a bit cheaper on the rookies. I'll be relying on 3 onfeild 123k or below players to do the job so its a big risk.

      Derek · 22/02/2016 at 21:34

I agree, you need to generate cash in this game.

        Tom · 22/02/2016 at 21:44

Im only fielding one rookie on field in the midfield which means I only need one upgrade there so I dont think I need to have a heap of cash generation in there. As long as the rookies I have in the midfield at the moment all can get to atleast 250-350k i think ill be fine.

My defensive rookies are worrying me though. If there arent looking to be many solid defensive rookies come end of NAB then I might have to change my structure.

        thats my thinking anyway

          TRIGGER HAPPY · 23/02/2016 at 09:44

Looking at everyone's team including mine that is the main problem we face. We r fielding two rook backs. But who? Brown? Collins? Broad? Bonner? Hibberd? Most r kpp or will struggle to get a game. If u go a bit higher to hipwood or Francis stil dpp and will they score any better than the cheaper rooks? Anyone with any ideas love to hear them as can't work this one out.

            Keenbutclueless · 23/02/2016 at 10:22

I'm looking at downgrading Yeo at D3 and running L McDonald, Fantasia and Aish at D3 to D5, leaving only 1 rookie on field. Only other hope is Cowan, but he's had an interrupted pre season and no certainty for best 22

Nick Leach · 22/02/2016 at 18:08

Marry me Jock

'Don't Blush Babbie' · 22/02/2016 at 18:10

If you could name 1 player this year who you believe will have breakout year ? who would it be ? I'm banking on M.Duncan @ 493k – I reckon he can be up around 590k at years end. Thoughts anyone ?

    Tom · 22/02/2016 at 18:14

If you want a P.O.D, Im liking Zac Williams and Tommy Sheridan

    Leeds17 · 22/02/2016 at 18:37

    Big Duncan fan right here.

Can't give you just one but Bird, Hutchings, Z Merrett all in for BIG seasons! probably only going to be able to fit one in my team.

Like Tom's Zac Williams too, class.

      'Don't Blush Babbie' · 22/02/2016 at 19:38

      like Z.Merrett,

    Grahame Lebroy · 22/02/2016 at 19:10

Dom Tyson is discounted this year his average could jump by 15 -20 pts. Not sure he is the break out type your after though .

    Keenbutclueless · 22/02/2016 at 23:07

Taylor Adams for me. Second half of 2015 was awesome. Just seems to be coming into his own. Thinking Dane Rampe also

    The Ranger · 22/02/2016 at 23:25

I had Duncan in my team for a long time as I watched him towards the end of last year and was really impressed.
And with Danger and Selwood getting all the attention you would think some of the other Geelong mids might get some room to play.
Sadly I can't quite squeeze him in to my structure at the moment but I'll be kicking myself if he comes out and kills it!

    TRIGGER HAPPY · 23/02/2016 at 09:46

    See my post above:

    Players I like:

    Parker, Adams, wines and Duncan.

    Aish Ventura · 23/02/2016 at 10:31

Mitch Robinson anyone? Have the feeling he could go big this year.

      'Don't Blush Babbie' · 23/02/2016 at 11:09

he's my F3,seems settled now,and must be showing leadership qualities as he was captain on the weekend

Ethan017 · 22/02/2016 at 18:16

Thoughts on my team
Yeo, Bartel, KK, Aish (50-50 on), Dea, Francis (Boner, Broad)
Pendles (50-50 on), Ablett, Rockliff, Wines, Parker, Libba, Crouch, O'Meara (Jansen, Petracca, Freeman)
Mumford, Lobbe (Cox)
Chopsticks, Barlow, T.Greene, Simpkin, Conca, Kerridge (Komner, M.Brown)

    Kev · 22/02/2016 at 19:17

Not bad, Ethan. Mid rookies will emerge mate, when they do drop one or both of Crouch and JOM and use the cash to fix up your rucks. Neither of them inspire a whole lot of confidence

Jackson · 22/02/2016 at 18:39

What do people think of Big Roughie as a D4 provided who gets the number 1 ruck role at Bulldogs?

    Ethan017 · 22/02/2016 at 19:02

Not on my watch list at all at the moment. At 347k there are much better options around. Maybe later in the season though

    Vinnymac · 22/02/2016 at 23:49

Nah even if he rucks, he won't rack up anywhere near as much as lobbe I reckon.

JSS · 22/02/2016 at 19:50

Thoughts on my team
Birchall yeo smith rich bonner m.brown Ess (hibbered k collins)
Danger Pendles abblett Rockliff wines Libba crouch parish (d.gore j.long d. Macpherson)
Nic Nat lobbe (wyatt)
Zorko wingard Barlow Greene petracca kerridge (kommer m.cox)

    Keenbutclueless · 22/02/2016 at 23:04

Good side. You are effectively running 7 mid pricers. The two in the midfield don't hurt you. Even the Defence, whilst risky, can be overcome as I suspect other mid pricers or fallen premiums will be plentiful in Defence throughout the year. But Lobbe, in my opinion, is an all or nothing play. Many think he's worth the risk. Personally, whilst I can see the upside, the downside risk is too high for me

tim · 22/02/2016 at 20:07

i don't think i have missed to many of your podcasts and that was easily the best one

Saalih · 22/02/2016 at 20:51

My Team is very midfield heavy but the only reason is because i believe these guys are at bargains prices or are going to improve.

DEF: bartel, kk, yeo, brown (dons), hartley, bonner (hibberd, broad)
MID: Pendles, gazza, rocky, sloane, selwood, parker, gibbs, libba (gore, mathieson, macpherson)
RUC: nic nat, lobbe (wyatt)
FWD: gunston, barlow, dusty, wells, kerridge, petracca (grimley, M. Adams)

only have 3.6k left in the bank but i may will probably downgrade one of the mids to milera (through petracca) and upgrade defence but atm im happy with it because i think all of them will improve and some are to cheap like gibbs and libba.

thoughts greatly appreciated 🙂

    Keenbutclueless · 22/02/2016 at 22:48

By spreading it like that, do you think you have enough captain choices? Defence does seem light. My concern with 3 def rookies is they don't traditionally score well, so delays the upgrade to full premo.

      Saalih · 22/02/2016 at 23:18

I agree keenbutclueless with the defense and may get rid of Parker and Sloan and get wines and a rook and upgrade Hartley to maybe Simpson. Though I like my mids because I think out of the 8 at least 4 will be top 10. But whole team subject to change.

Mike · 22/02/2016 at 20:52

For anyone jumping on Parker, Mills and even Buddy, remember the Swans invariably start pretty slow.

Tom · 22/02/2016 at 21:20

Thoughts on Roberton from STK?

    West · 22/02/2016 at 21:30

Hasnt really shown he can consistently do it. I think there are better options for value but he will be a big POD so your choice

    Keenbutclueless · 22/02/2016 at 22:55

I think he is injured atm.

    Tim · 23/02/2016 at 20:27

Robertson did his ankle (don't know how serious) in the intra club match and I can't remember how long he's out for

Big ball · 22/02/2016 at 21:26

Anyone else currently got Francis in mid , I'm seeing him in a lot of backlines ? Great mid def swing considering there are barely any relevant defence/mid options.

'Don't Blush Babbie' · 22/02/2016 at 21:45

I'm going Aish Def/Mid @ 276k ,as far as a Rookie goes Francis @ 198k might in the trade window for mine only, not doubting he can't play though. M.Hibberd @ 117k is a Mid /Def also, he should play this week for Norf

Holty · 22/02/2016 at 21:54

does anyone know which teams have the most sunday matches this year? i guess its always handy to know for the loophole

    Cpt Pugwash · 22/02/2016 at 22:35

Not the doggies Holty… Yip yeh!

    SCaddict · 22/02/2016 at 22:53

It's not just Sundays but Saturday evenings as well. Both the Blues and Dees are reasonable options so a lot of coaches are considering one of the King's for R3.

    Keenbutclueless · 22/02/2016 at 22:56

Someone previously said Melbourne has a lot early doors

    Holty · 22/02/2016 at 23:30

cheers all. The doggies were great last year for the loophole. i was looking at gold coast and melbourne but i think with your help ill go with melbourne.

    PJ8 · 23/02/2016 at 08:43

I'm going with Read from Geelong.

6 of Geelong's first 9 games are either Sat night, Sun or Mon. By then everyone will have other options for loophole due to injuries, omissions or resting.

Benjamima Puddleduck · 22/02/2016 at 22:31

Here she is lads

My first pass team, plenty of changes to be made depending on starting rookies and injuries over the next couple of weeks.
Mids are locked/ Defenders possible change/ Fwd and Ruck looking at options still.

DEF: K.Kolo; J.Thurlow; T.Cutler; L.McDonald; J.Aish; M.Brown
(D.Tucker; R.Bonner)
MID: G.Ablett; D.Armitage; O.Wines; D.Shiel; T.Rockliff; P.Cripps; T.Libatore; B.Crouch
(C.Mills; R.Mathieson; D.Macpherson)
RUCK: S.Mumford; N.Naitanui (C.Loersch)
FWD: S.Gray; L.Franklin; R.Stanley; D.Wells; C.Kerridge; C.Petracca
(D.Hamilton; N.Kommer)

Biggest change im currently looking at is taking out Mumford putting Stanley up there and putting Choppstix in.

    Keenbutclueless · 22/02/2016 at 23:14

A team unlike any posted here. So used to all the teams looking remarkably similar. Congrats on going completely against the shoal.

      Holty · 22/02/2016 at 23:37

      agreed. nice change of scenery

    PJ8 · 23/02/2016 at 08:39

Well done on the different team. Not for me though

    Rosy · 23/02/2016 at 10:50

I think you've started too far behind the pack in terms of premiums (especially in your backline) and have therefore left yourself with a lot of trading to do. You may find yourself having to burn many trades early on just to keep up with other teams that started with the right players.

On the upside, you probably have a fair amount of cash in the bank? And at least your team looks different.

    Derek · 23/02/2016 at 15:11

i really like the Cutler pick. He has been on my watch list all preseason. I wouldn't have him at D3 though, more likely D4 or D5.

    Benjamima Puddleduck · 23/02/2016 at 18:03

I just dont see any value what so ever in the premium Defenders. KK being the exception and maybe Bartel, though we dont know how he will be played this year.
I feel like every year that comes and goes, the higher paid for defenders always drop in price big time for mediocre starts to the year.

The only other premo Mid i would want atm is Fyfe. Though im pretty content for what i have.

Glad to have a different team than everyone else, the herd is where i went wrong last year 😉

$143k left in the kitty, but still first build.

Josh · 22/02/2016 at 22:31

What's people thoughts on Daniel Menzel?

    SCaddict · 22/02/2016 at 22:41

We need to see his NAB campaign first as he still is somewhat of an unknown quantity having barely played any footy in the past 5 years.

Was impressive in his return game late last season with 119 SC pts but there is a lot of competition at the <$300K price range for forwards. Injury susceptibility is also a major drawback.

Probably a smokey option at best but let's see. Expected to play this Friday I believe.

      Gord29 · 23/02/2016 at 14:44

thanks do you think for around that price wells is a better option or just go down to a rookie to play on field

    Danners · 23/02/2016 at 13:16

    Rather have a rookie

Pete · 22/02/2016 at 23:18

Anyone heard about Andrew Walker from Carlton?
Is he injured?

    Holty · 22/02/2016 at 23:32

no but he probably will be at some point. he would be a great pickup if he reaches that form of a few years ago though.

    PJ8 · 23/02/2016 at 08:38

    SCaddict · 23/02/2016 at 18:13

A lot of Blues suffered fantasy wise under the Mick regime and 1AW is certainly one candidate that could experience a scoring hike, depending on his form and how he is used under Bolts.

But durability concerns does make him a fairly risky midpricer for the money even if he is selected for Rd1.

So I would probably look elsewhere unless you're happy to take a punt on him and potentially burn a trade if things go pear shaped.

Vinnymac · 22/02/2016 at 23:49

Thoughts on Maric as my R1?

    Luviboy1 · 23/02/2016 at 09:26

Fork out an extra 40k and get Maxy Gawn in your side.

    Danners · 23/02/2016 at 13:16

An interesting POD, should be able to maintain a similar average

    SCaddict · 23/02/2016 at 16:00

Probably slightly underpriced but doubtful he can crack top 5 in the ruck dept by season end.

So perhaps better as an R2 option with a blue chipper like Goldy/Martin/NicNat/Jacobs at R1.

BarronVonCrow · 23/02/2016 at 02:43

I think it's a bit simplistic to say Yeo is an out because of the Eagles/Crows game. Standing up by yourself when you've got Giles as your ruckman, against Jacobs, then going against a strong side in the middle with Thompson, Crouch, Douglas etc, it sometimes doesn't matter how good you are as an individual, you'll just not be able to get anything done. The Crows had almost twice the amount of possessions as the Eagles (340 to 180), to expect Yeo to be able to pull anything out of that might be a bit unfair.

I'll wait to see how he goes in a full strength side, I think that's the only way you can get a real look at how he'll go.

    PJ8 · 23/02/2016 at 08:35

    Agree Barron.

It was Men vs Boys. Yeo will be better when the elite players are around him. Don't think even Priddis would of scored well in that Eagles team.

    SCaddict · 23/02/2016 at 11:21

If there's one upside to the Yeo No Show is that plenty of coaches are now reassessing and even jumping off making him bit more of a POD than otherwise would be the case.

So I'm personally ok if his remaining NAB games are merely respectable rather than impressive.

For the last thing we need is for him to crank out a 130 in either NAB2 or 3 and then every [email protected] to jump back on ha ha.

    onbeebe · 23/02/2016 at 14:51

Makes me wonder about picking any bombers other than the cheapo rookies

    Derek · 23/02/2016 at 15:09

When i heard that Masten was injured, Yeo was alot more appealing as his chances of getting more mid-field time increased.

The fact that he was in the midfield on the weekend was a good sigh

    Phil · 23/02/2016 at 16:05

Wise words Baz, I'm prepared to ignore Smith and Yeo scores from that game for the reasons you stated above. Also, it was 38 degrees, both players are locks in their respective 22's, they probably couldn't be stuffed trying.

TheMont · 23/02/2016 at 08:07

Whats everyone's thoughts on dahlhaus?

    PJ8 · 23/02/2016 at 08:37

    Like Dahl Mont.

I have had him in and out. Just want to see what effect Libba coming back has on him. May take some of the midfield minutes off Dahl that he had in 2015.

      Luviboy1 · 23/02/2016 at 09:22

Love Dahl. Been one of the main stayers in my team since the start of this season. Cant fault him as a pick.

        TRIGGER HAPPY · 23/02/2016 at 09:50

Yeah like the Dahl tossing up between him and stringer. Stringer gives me a bit more coin to spend in other lines. Think stringer will avg 95-100, Dahl 105 plus. So thinking stringer for 5-10 points to give me $

          Keenbutclueless · 23/02/2016 at 10:29

Based on those numbers, there is a strong argument to have both

            TRIGGER HAPPY · 23/02/2016 at 12:07

Dahl will probably b one of my first upgrades if I don't start with him. Can't quite afford him based on current structure got the Chad and Barlow instead. 🙂

    Derek · 23/02/2016 at 15:07

too expensive to start with. He will score well if Dogs have another good year. I'll wait to see how the dogs are going

Anyone who missed out on this league can join 776037. Finished top 300 last year!

Christian R/ Jack W · 23/02/2016 at 10:45

Jock your intro gave me tingles, love the footy

Nifty · 23/02/2016 at 11:13

How many leagues can be entered this year pls?

    hedeski · 23/02/2016 at 11:19

    Pretty sure its 10 nifty

      Nifty · 23/02/2016 at 11:21

      Thanks Hedeski..

    SCaddict · 23/02/2016 at 11:34

Yes if you check out the rules for 2016 it states 10 leagues.

I also notice we are back to playing the GF in Rd23 so will have to make sure I cut back on my intake of Freo players lol.

      Cozza · 23/02/2016 at 11:44

They have the bye round before finals start this year SC, so shouldn't be a need for anyone to rest players that last round. That said, no knowing what Ross "I hate fantasy players" Lyons would do.

        SCaddict · 23/02/2016 at 11:49

Yes and they do have a home game in Rd23 which helps too but with Rossy you can never take anything for granted. 🙂

Stiffy · 23/02/2016 at 11:50

594974 league code.

Looking for some good competition. Top 1% is preferable but the more the merrier.

Top 800 two seasons ago. 2015 wasn't pretty though (outside top 10000). Let me know if that is acceptable Stiffy.

Holty get in my league mate!

Stevo · 23/02/2016 at 12:41

Hey community, bit of a pressing issue I've got.
Quadzilla/Parker at M5 and Lobbe
B. Crouch at M6 and Stef Martin.

My other R1 is Goldy and current MID is as follows
Pendles, Ablett, Priddis, Rockliff, Wines, Libba, Mills, Gresham, (Rooks).

Basically, do I go set and forget Rucks with Stef and Goldy and have two mid pricers in MID or increase premo concentration in the MID and have Lobbe who will inevitably be upgraded to Stef/Sauce type.

    PJ8 · 23/02/2016 at 13:38

I have always been for Premo Set Forget ruck and currently have Goldy and Martin. So that's what i would say to do.

Not buying into the Lobbe hype. Scored poorly when he played last year. Cant pass up the potential 220 + each week from Goldy and Martin

      Stevo · 23/02/2016 at 18:30

But will his scoring increase witv Paddy Ryder out?

    Derek · 23/02/2016 at 15:01

i haven't seen many teams with Priddis. could be a good move.

I'm going Pendlebury over Priddis, have a look at the Pie's draw compared to WCE.

      Stevo · 23/02/2016 at 18:32

Porque no los dos? You make a good point. Will probably look at Priddis as an upgrade target down the track.

neil · 23/02/2016 at 13:08

whats the rest of your team like Stevo. I am tipping you wouldn't go deep in the forwards. With the abundance of good mid rookies and zilch rookies forward I would swap Priddis who starts slow anyway and strengthen the forwards ,it doesn't matter where they are on the field martin for priddis you loose nothing but Mathieson coming in at m8 is better than any forward coming in at f6 think adams willis skinner all may not play but Ibet all your mid bench will good luck Stevo and only mythoughts LIBBA IS MY M5 andZorko f4

    Stevo · 23/02/2016 at 18:39

My team is as follows Neil:

BACK: Shaw, Houli, Birchall, Aish, Rook, Rook (Rooks)
MID: Pendles, Ablett, ?Priddis?, Rockliff, Wines, Libba, Mills, Gresham, (Matheison, Keays, Gore)
    RUCK: Goldy, Lobbe, (DPP Rook)
FWD: Chopsticks, Dahlhaus, Barlow/Gunston, Wells, Milera, Kerridge, (Petracca, Kommer)

    Got 27k in the kitty.

I flirted with the idea of going deeper in my FWD/DEF, and I think I might now. There are a plethora of good looking Mid rooks this year, and I think they are too good to pass up.

Danners · 23/02/2016 at 13:21

Great podcast Jock and crew! I am also on edge with B.Smith and tempted by Birchall depending on where he plays the next couple of games. A player that has caught my eye is Tom Bell, scored 100 and he has returned home which could lift his average. Thoughts community?

    Holty · 23/02/2016 at 13:33

As a Carlton supporter, loved Bell. Played in a very poor team but always put in 100%. Now he moves to another poor team but returns home. Cant see him improving on his average from last season. Plus Brisbanes midfield is stronger imo so I dont think he will be playing there as much.

Danners · 23/02/2016 at 13:48

Also community…
The Community Crew leagues are back for 2016! These leagues were both ranked in the top 100 and one of them was ranked in the top 50. Look forward to the challenge…

The Beard · 23/02/2016 at 13:54

Hey lads, love some input on my squad. Second draft :

Docherty, Bartel, Rich, McDonald, Dea, Brown – Hartley, Bonner

Danger, Pendels, GAJ, Rocky, Wines, Liba, Crouch, Mills – Keays, Mathieson, MacPherson

Goldy, Nic Nat – Grimley

Martin, Barlow, Greene, Simpkin, Kerridge, Petracca – Kommer, Undecided (got 105k)

    The Beard · 23/02/2016 at 19:59

    No comments lads?

qwe · 23/02/2016 at 14:13

Dangerfield a lock? flawless preseason and players tend to lift at new clubs normally. Worth the tag for mine

    PJ8 · 23/02/2016 at 14:36

Very tempted. But with Fyfe, Pendles I can't fit him in so he makes way due to the slight bit of doubt over how he suits at the new club. I think he will still dominate but the other 2 are proven and haven't had any change from last season.

    Derek · 23/02/2016 at 14:55

yeah, lift at another club exactly the same way that Griffin did last year.

      qwe · 23/02/2016 at 15:20

How did higgins go last year at his new club?

        Holty · 23/02/2016 at 17:01

This is true Qwe but I think what Derek is referring to is for that amount of money for Danger, it is a massive risk. Higgins was at a price you could risk selecting. And Griffin, I was one of the fortunate ones who didn't fall into that trap last year. Although the injuries I got hit with early, made up for it. Do you have the other 3 in God, Fyfe and Pendles?

      Kev · 23/02/2016 at 15:55

Griff isn't worthy of tieing Danger's bootlaces

    SCaddict · 23/02/2016 at 15:45

Just so long as he doesn't GET the tag. 🙂

    Phil · 23/02/2016 at 21:17

Depends, he isn't a lock to start off with, but he is a lock to have in your team at some stage…..Personally I think he is a better upgrade target.

PJ8 · 23/02/2016 at 14:33

Nice spread Jess.

DEF – Love the Laird pick, massive POD at this stage. KK, Doch & Smith could go either way, hope for your sake they all pay off and average 90+ but there is a risk in having all 3. 2 on field rookies seems to be the way to go,

MID – Similar to most MIDS but i like the Danger pick over Pendles. Danger will go big more often but may not be as consistent. Hopefully Macpherson comes off the rookie list.

RUCK – BANG! BANG! Same as me.

FWD – Again similar to teams I am seeing but Dahl is some what a POD so that breaks it up. I won't be going anywhere near Wells though.

Overall good selections, Laird, Doch, Danger and Dahl are all great that I am not seeing as much of. Good luck

    neil · 23/02/2016 at 14:47

is petraca injured maybe his knee again

PJ8 · 23/02/2016 at 14:52

Thoughts anyone…

Shaw, Laird, Smith, Aish, Brown, Bonner (Tucker, Broad)

Fyfe, Pendlebury, Ablett, Rockliff, Liberatore, B. Crouch, Duggen, C. Ellis (Gresham, Gore, Mathieson)

Goldstein, Martin (Read)

Deledio, Martin, Barlow, Milera, Kerridge, Petracca (Pickett, Grimely)

    Stiffy · 23/02/2016 at 15:24

Many teams are running with 5 premo mids, but really like the Laird selection.

      PJ8 · 23/02/2016 at 15:39

Yes i see that, i have had Wines in my M5 spot but for the DEF, RUCKS and FWDS i want in my team, it doesn't allow me to have the 5 mids.

Can i ask where you would sacrifice in my team to get Wines in for Duggen? FYI I will not sacrifice the RUCKS haha.

      Thanks Stiff

        Ewing · 23/02/2016 at 16:04

Hi PJ8, You could go Shaw to someone 100k cheaper as shaw is bound to drop in price. Then you can downgrade deledio to someone 100k cheaper. Then crouch to a rookie and duggen to wines. Thats what I would do if I was in your place pj8 🙂

          PJ8 · 23/02/2016 at 16:18

          Thanks Ewing,

I'm not so sure though, I might just stay with 4 Premo mids.

Shaw and Deledio will be top 5 in there position anyway and will most likely end up in my team. They both will probably drop in price but not many will start with them due to starting price will be potential early season PODs.

Also my opinion is that Deledio will average the same as Wines. There is a difference in starting price but many teams have Wines, not many with Deledio.

        Stiffy · 23/02/2016 at 16:13

I would go Deledio down, Shaw down Duggen down and Crouch up just as Ewing said. Or get rid of Martin as he and goldy share the same bye rounds.

Derek · 23/02/2016 at 14:54

i think you are over spending in your rucks. Especially as we are uncertain how the rucks will be affected by the sub rule and the less interchanges. Maybe they won't be affected, but it is a lot of cash at risk that it won't. i would look at starting with Lobbe.

    Jess · 23/02/2016 at 15:32

Thanks for the reply Derek. We all get to take our risks and among mine are set and forget rucks.

I dont see much value in Lobbe or any other rucks. There is, however, alot of value elsewhere (fwds/mids). Also, Lobbes recent good year as sole ruckman was before they brought in the ruck/taps to advantage rule (Lobbe definitely lacks effective taps). Even if Goldy and Martin drop significantly in price, I'll be happy knowing that a) I've got what i believe to be the two best ruckmen and b) that I didnt waste any trades getting them. Best of luck Derek ☺

      SCaddict · 23/02/2016 at 15:49

Ruck spend is really a personal preference. At this stage I'm looking at going with the GoldMart dynamic duo too so don't be too dissuaded, especially if you are happy with how the rest of your team shakes out.

      Holty · 23/02/2016 at 17:50

yeah everyone has their own opinion with spend in the ruck. i went with goldy and martin last year in rdt and went with mumford and bellchambers in supercoach. These were the main differences of both team structures at beginning of last season. Chased my tail all season in supercoach to correct it and finished 9th overall in rdt. Im going the set and forget this season in supercoach and hope im not out of a chance at winning the overall in the first 8 rounds like last year.

Gord29 · 23/02/2016 at 14:58

solid team my only concern is spending to much on martin in the ruck there is some value around in the rucks and gives you a bit of coin to spend, in saying that i am being picky because there isn't a lot that i don't like about your team.

Gord29 · 23/02/2016 at 15:23

Would be great to hear some thoughts on this team thanks in advance

BACKS – Houli Yeo Smith Malceski Reid Brown (ess) Bench- Francis Tipungwuti
MID – Ablett Shiel Rockliff Wines Liberatore Crouch Parish Kerridge
Bench – Freeman Polkinghorne Cunningham
RUCKS – Mumford Lobbe
Bench – Grimley
FWDS – Martin Bennell Tippet Greene Wells Simpkin
Bench – Kommer Petracca

    PJ8 · 23/02/2016 at 15:32

Opposite to your feedback on my team Gord haha… Don't like the Lobbe pick. Can't see him being great. I have always been Premo set and forget in the rucks. No risks.

Couple of other risky players in your team that i will be avoiding Mal and Wells.

Other than that i like the whole structure of your team. I like your PODs – Houli, Shiel, Tippett.

      Gord29 · 23/02/2016 at 15:40

haha thanks for the feedback very much appreciated. Im not sold on lobbe yet either but he's there number one ruck hoping he might score same as 2014. Same with Mal and Wells but not really any option standing out to me around his price i have 50k spare if you have any suggestions?

        'Don't Blush Babbie' · 23/02/2016 at 15:45

Lonergan for Malcheski & Conca for Wells IMO – $ are approx the same

          Gord29 · 23/02/2016 at 15:48

I'm still not sold on them at this stage but definetly going to watch that combo over the rest of the NAB cup games

        PJ8 · 23/02/2016 at 15:53

Lobbe's 2014 season was under the old Ruck point system.

Ryder was there last year but still his scoring was poor with the new point system.

I like C. Eliis for Wells and maybe Aish for Mal

          Gord29 · 23/02/2016 at 16:16

very good point. yea i am a fan of Aish just want to see where he is going to play for them

            PJ8 · 23/02/2016 at 16:22

Played wing in the intra club, would be handy if they play him there. A $275k defender that plays on the wing is a huge bonus. I will be watching his position closely as well.

              Gord29 · 23/02/2016 at 16:25

yea i had him at the start swapped him to reid though that can be easily changed back though. Just went wells down to ellis and gone mal up to brich with 20k left over makes the backline look better could even go KK instead

    Kev · 23/02/2016 at 15:52

Nice effort Gord, I feel you're being safe though and using mid pricers rather than identifying rooks. This is effecting how many guns you have in your team.

Play around with your structure a bit, select some 117k rookies, even if they don't play round you can easily swap them when they emerge. Then use the cash saved to get some star power into your team.

      Gord29 · 23/02/2016 at 15:54

cheers kev i have a few rooks in mind just waiting for the rest of the games bit hard to tell at this stage who is going to get games early. Im picking up what you are putting down though

Stiffy · 23/02/2016 at 15:52

Shaw, Laird, Smith and Aish or
KK, Yeo Bartel and Smith

    PJ8 · 23/02/2016 at 15:54

As you can see just above i have option 1. I'll be sticking with that.

    Gord29 · 23/02/2016 at 15:55

i like option one with shaw just keep an eye on where aish is going to play over the next few games

    Holty · 23/02/2016 at 17:16

Option 1 only because Shaw at present is the only one I have confidence in finishing Top6.

pup · 23/02/2016 at 16:01

anyone have good leagues i can join i've finnished in the top 1% last two years

Ren · 23/02/2016 at 16:12

KK, Bartel, Birchall, Mitch Brown (ess), Broad, Hartley (adams, mcd tipungwitu)

Fyfe, Pendles, GAJ, Shiel, Rocky, Wines, Libba, Gore (mathieson, partington, macpherson)

Goldy, Martin (grimley)

Dusty, Barlow, Franklin, Ben Kennedy, Kerride, Petracca (kommer, galucci)

Going pretty expensive in the midifeld.

Rookies are going to change after NAB.

about 5k left

    Derek · 23/02/2016 at 17:13

disaster waiting to happen with your defence.

last year we got lucky with Oxley & Mcintosh scoring well early. That doesn't happen every year with defence rookies. Two on=field rookies in defence might be the max.

      Ren · 23/02/2016 at 17:26

Well everyone was saying the same thing last year and how we should load up to d5.

Obviously if there are no good rookies come round 1 in defence I will change it.

Ewing · 23/02/2016 at 16:58

Rioli and Fyfe OR Wingard and Dangerfield

    Cozza · 23/02/2016 at 17:01

Wingard and Dangerfield. Fyfe and Dangerfield are pretty even IMO – Fyfe maybe slightly ahead. Wingard over Rioli tips it for me.

      Derek · 23/02/2016 at 17:10

Rioli has been in and out of my team, but i think i'll settle on Wingard for now and look at picking up Rioli if he drops in price.

        Shake n bake · 23/02/2016 at 17:21

        2nd option.

Tom · 23/02/2016 at 17:01

DEF: KK, Bartel, Yeo, Smith, Francis, Dea (Bonner, Collins)

MID: Ablett, Rockliff, Parker, Wines, Cripps, Liberatore, Hopper, Cuningham (Gresham, Polkinghorne, Mathieson)

RUC: Golstein, Naitanui (Cox)

FOR: Martin, Dahlhaus, Barlow, Simpkin, Kerridge, Petracca (Kommer, Brown)

Thoughts appreciated!

    Kev · 23/02/2016 at 17:31

Looks a bit weak in the guts, Tom. At minimum I reckon you need two out of Fyfe/Pendles/Danger/Gaz

    Ethan017 · 23/02/2016 at 18:27

Hopper and Cunningham need to upgraded
My thoughts downgrade Goldstein to Mumford or downgrade Nic Nat to Lobbe to produce cash for Hopper and Cunningham
For me Smith out for Aish to produce more cash to upgrade midfield

Other then that it looks all good! Good luck this year mate

JJB · 23/02/2016 at 17:07

All – with the bench players – what should ave score / $ value should these players get too (hopefully) ??
I was hoping for approx $150k + increase in value on average for each rookie – Is this realistic ??
which equals – what $ value ??

Pls advise – Thanks.

    Derek · 23/02/2016 at 18:07

You need to increase your team value to at least $14mil, by at least round 11. That is if you want to have a team with an average premium player with a price of $590k+

Your mid-price and rookies need to make all of the $4mil increase in value. Therefore, $4mil divided by say 15 non-premium players is roughly $266,667 each! There will be some that do this, but not all of them (Crouch won't get to $572k), therefore we need downgrade rookies who arrive on the bubble in rounds 5-10 that we can also get a price increase out of.

The faster you can increase the value of your team the better. A team with many mid-price players will score ok to start the year, but won't get the price increase to compete when the whips are cracking.

If you don't get the price increase early, you can't compete against the good managers at the end of the year.

      Derek · 23/02/2016 at 18:17

a $117k rookie who can average 70SC will increase in value to about $310k in 6 weeks. ($193SC increase)

A $180k rookie will need to average 77SC to increase to $315k in 6 weeks. ($135SC increase)

      A $300k mid-price who averages 77SC will increase to $352k in 6 weeks ($52k increase)

      Get the cheapies!

        JJB · 24/02/2016 at 09:04

Thanks – I have reduced my mid priced players.

Shake n bake · 23/02/2016 at 17:19

l 1st went with Goldy & Martin but because of the bye l don't think I want both missing. So l have Goldy & l want to know what the community thinks Gawn or Nic Nat?

    Gord29 · 23/02/2016 at 17:21

out of those two i would go nic nat what about Mumford though?

      Kev · 23/02/2016 at 17:27

Massive question mark over Mummy getting through a whole season. Never crossed the 20 game barrier

        SCaddict · 23/02/2016 at 17:48

Yeah I warned folks all last preseason on Mummy and there were still plenty of takers, many who unfortunately suffered 3rd degree burns.

Interest in him has been fairly subdued so far this season but that could all change if he bangs out a couple of impressive scores in the NAB.

But it's never been about his scoring capability, we all know he has a humongous ceiling. It's just how many games will you get out of the big lug before he goes kaput.

He also seems to incur injuries that drag on and on, sucking his owners into holding on to him longer than they should in the hope he'll be back soon.

    Holty · 23/02/2016 at 17:32

im not worrying about the bye with goldy and martin. they are locked for me. with the byes starting later in the season, you should be able to work out something to still field at least 18 players.

    magpie4ver · 23/02/2016 at 17:50

    I'm going Goldy/Gawn and Grimely with cox @ m8

    Rawkus11 · 23/02/2016 at 20:05

Flip a coin on Nic Nat and Gawn i reckon

Shake n bake · 23/02/2016 at 17:33

He burnt me last year Kev so that's why l won't go for Mummy. I just think after Goldy, Martin would be next best but because of the bye want to go next best after Martin but think that will come from Gawn or Nic Nat.

Pinidu · 23/02/2016 at 18:16

Community, your thoughts on Ollie Wines please? I'm thinking of slotting him into Mid5 spot. However, I'm wondering whether he is a keeper?

    Derek · 23/02/2016 at 18:20

i see him in the group of players just below the Ultra premiums. Not quite a "keeper" yet, but i see him as very good value, especially as Port have a very nice draw.

    Ethan017 · 23/02/2016 at 18:27

    SCaddict · 23/02/2016 at 18:35

Like Parker and Shiel he has the POTENTIAL this season to join the elite ranks as 110 plus mids imho.

So yes it's certainly reasonable to expect him to be a keeper holding down a M7/M8 slot come finals time. And even if he doesn't quite perform as hoped it should be a fairly minor investment to bump him up to an elite if you have a spare trade around the finals.

Is anyone considering StevieJ. $457k seems good value?

    Rawkus11 · 23/02/2016 at 20:03

He's an interesting prospect Stevie, could kill it up there or get a bit lazy and sit in the fwd half trying to do the spectacular shit. Possible upgrade target for me if he starts ripping out decent scores

Ethan017 · 23/02/2016 at 18:28

Thoughts on Josh Kennedy from the Swans at 594k?? Former 643k player

    Holty · 23/02/2016 at 18:49

gr8 choice if what they are saying abkut him spending more time up forward is rubbish(which i wkuld think is yes). his last half of last year was incredible. is he plays like that, it would be money very well spent.

    SCaddict · 23/02/2016 at 18:52

Safe as houses and close to a lock in my team. Happy to have him as a relative POD whilst others are spending more coin on Fyfe and Danger.

One of the best pill extractors in the biz and at age 27 is well in his prime. Don't get sucked in by misleading reports that he may play more up forward like Fyfe or Gaz. He may get rested up forward but that'll be about it. His quick reactions and disposal skills are needed onball.

      Liam · 23/02/2016 at 20:23

Liking Parker for the cheaper price, although JPK is a great option as well.

Deccas · 23/02/2016 at 18:49

Ripper again Jock, always impress. For me Josh Kennedy is a gun but has so many other stars around him to compete for points! Not on my radar.

What is better, Nic Nat at R2, Parish at M8 and Hibberd at D8
Lobbe at R2 and Laird at D2 and MacPherson at M11?

Mac · 23/02/2016 at 19:39

My defence is still up in the air. Can people give me their views on defensive locks – not rookies please.

    SCaddict · 23/02/2016 at 19:48

I'm not sure anyone qualifies as a lock when it comes to defence. Some will say Shaw but he is too exy for many coaches including me.

I believe there's value in Bartel and perhaps Yeo but I don't regard either as automatic selections aka locks.

So like you my defence is far from settled and could change markedly over the next month. Definitely the hardest line to get a read on this season.

      Mac · 23/02/2016 at 19:51

Thanks SCaddict im really struggling this year with my backline, i feel it will be the line that makes or breaks teams this year.

        SCaddict · 23/02/2016 at 20:05

        No worries Mac.

My overall strategy is to keep initial expenditure in defence to a minimum and upgrade to the best performers as they emerge during the course of the season.

I'm much more confident who the best players will be in the other lines (especially midfield and ruck) so will spend the bulk of my salary cap there and expect this will be a fairly popular plan.

          Nifty · 23/02/2016 at 20:15

Thought please SCaddict.. JPK & Buddy or Wines/Parker & Wingard..

            SCaddict · 23/02/2016 at 20:27

First Nifty I have to declare I'm a Swans man upfront and actually have JPK, Parker, Mills and Buddy all in my present team so make of that what you will. 🙂

JPK is my only lock right now as one of my few PODs although Parker is very likely to make my midfield too.

Having said that both Wines and Wingard would be really excellent choices and have nothing against those selections at all.

Buddy does look nicely priced and reportedly had his best preseason as a Swan. However any hint of health issues over the next month and I will probably swap him for someone else.

But right now my slight preference would be JPK/Buddy but there's really nothing in it so just pick the combo you like best mate.

              Nifty · 23/02/2016 at 20:29

              Thanks mate..

      BCHawks · 23/02/2016 at 19:52

Couldn't agree more. Defence is still up in the air and I don't this there are any players that could be classed as locks. There are also a lot of players that could be good POD's to.

BCHawks · 23/02/2016 at 19:46

Looking for people to join my SuperCoach Draft League JR Community Draft for tonight at 9:00pm Melbourne time. Must be committed to go for the full year. Thanks. Code is 498709

      BCHawks · 23/02/2016 at 20:15

    SCaddict · 23/02/2016 at 20:40

    I'm in too mate.

      BCHawks · 23/02/2016 at 20:48

      Can't wait!

Stiffy · 23/02/2016 at 19:58

Thoughts on N.Riewoldt? Said to play more time up the ground this season? Also thoughts on Laird?

Rawkus11 · 23/02/2016 at 19:59

I've changed the structure a tad in the last week or so community, thoughts?
Def: Bartel, Birchall, Yeo, Aish, Francis, Brown (ess) (Hartley, Bonner)
mid: Fyfe, Pendles, Gaz, Rocky, Parker, Libba, Parish, Gresham (Polkinghorne, Matheison, Phillips)
Ruc: Goldy Nic Nat (King)
Fwd: Chopsticks, Barlow, Buddy, Conca, Kerridge, Patracca (Sumner, Kommer)

Can't believe i have Conca in my side, but Wayno sold me!

    tophawk · 23/02/2016 at 20:28

Me too. Wayno might be on to a winner here. Conca has been put into my midfield at M8. A very handing swing option. Many guys in my forward line have mid eligibility so this will give me added flexibility . Dont let me down Wayno!!!

Pacca · 23/02/2016 at 20:01

Have never posted a team to ask for feedback on, so first time trying, hopefully get some feedback. Not bothering to show bench as this will change depending on rookies

DEF: Shaw, Bartel, Yeo, McDonald, Brown, Broad
MID: Fyfe, Ablett, Rocky, Wines, Libba, Crouch, Wells, Petracca
Ruck: Martin, Nic Nat
FWD: Dusty, Barlow, Billings,Greene, Simpkin, Kerridge

Leaves $143k in the kitty for upgrades

Welcome the communities thoughts

    SCaddict · 23/02/2016 at 20:47

We have nearly identical forward lines right now so of course I'm going to like it!

I plan on going in with one more elite mid rather than Shaw in defence but that's just a preference thing.

But your side looks fantastic to me Pacca.

      Pacca · 24/02/2016 at 10:59

Thanks SC, really appreciate you taking the time to respond and making me feel a bit better about my team. Totally get your comment on Shaw, but so limited in options for defensive guns? I guess there could be the Simpson option which gets me $100k?

    Holty · 23/02/2016 at 20:52

i like this team. my only concern would be your rucks. you have picked 2 premo keepers but dont have goldy. goldy will be the number 1 come seasons end so i would swap either ruck for him and try to find that extra cash to achieve it. if your plan is however to play out the season without goldy, thats fine but if you plan to get him in, i dont see picking a premo only to trade him out later is a sensible move.

      Pacca · 24/02/2016 at 11:00

Cheers Holty, feel like Martin and Nic Nat could go close to Goldy this year while saving me a lot of coin that I can spend elsewhere. I do have the cash available to upgrade one of them to Goldy and may yet do it before season starts, not sure?
      Really appreciate the feedback mate

    tophawk · 23/02/2016 at 20:58

    Great side Pacca.

Just watch the form of Billings in the remaining 2 NAB cup games. He was very ordinary in the first game. If you can save a bit of money in your ruck/forward line, you may be able to upgrade one of your current midfielders (Maybe M7?) to an Ollie Wines or Luke Parker.

      Pacca · 24/02/2016 at 11:02

Yeah, must admit, bit nervous on Billings, but got to try something left field to avoid the cookie cutter team, so hoping it pays off.
Already have Wines, and yes, would be nice to get Parker in the guts, but would need to find about $200k somewhere

Nick Hanlon · 23/02/2016 at 20:21

G'day community, would love some feedback on my team.

Def: Simpson, KK, Bartel, Smith, M.Brown (ESS), Broad, (Bonner, Mcdonald-Tipungwuti)
Mid: Fyfe, Pendlebury, Ablett, Rockliff, Liberatore, Crouch, Hopper, Mathieson, (Gresham, Gore, MacPherson)
Ruck: Goldstein, Naitanui (King)
Fwd: Martin, Zorko, Barlow, Simpkin, Milera, Kerridge (Petracca, Grimley)

Thanks guys.

    tophawk · 23/02/2016 at 20:50

    Hi Nick,

This is one of the better sides that I have seen. Love your forward line. Its identical to mine! Your ruck is very strong, but a very big spend though. If you can save some coin there, you might be able to squeeze in a player like Luke Parker or Ollie Wines as a replacement for either Hopper or Gresham. Your midfield would look even better. Thats where the big points are. Your backline looks great. I have Docherty instead of Simpson. All in all a bloody good side!

      Nick Hanlon · 23/02/2016 at 23:06

Thanks a lot mate, appreciate the feedback. I've never gone locked and loaded in the rucks before and am very keen to pursue that this year. As much as i'd like to fit in Dylan Shiel (my ideal upgrade target if i were to do as you advised) i can't see it happening at this stage. Cheers mate.

      Nick Hanlon · 23/02/2016 at 23:08

Further, I reckon Jacob Hopper is an absolute gun and am happy to start with him. Played with him in U16's and he is a serious beast, will slot right in to GWS midfield. Hopefully he doesn't destroy the NAB so that everyone slots him in this weekend!

David · 23/02/2016 at 21:11

Would like some feedback on my team please community:

KK, Rich Smith Mackenzie Dea Brown (Bonner, Broad)

Pendlebury Fyfe Rockliff Ablett Wines Libertore Crouch Simpkin ( Mills, Petracca Freeman)

Goldstein Martin (Cox)

Martin Barlow Franklin Wells Kerridge Anderson (Grimley Adams)

Feedback much appreciated

    Nick Hanlon · 23/02/2016 at 23:09

    G'day David,
I think you might need to sure up your defence a little, perhaps one to many speculative picks there. I think you at least need 1 premo (500k plus) that you know will be consistent every week for you, like a Simpson or a Laird. Hope that helps mate, everything else looks good!

    Nick Hanlon · 23/02/2016 at 23:10

I would downgrade one of anderson/wells and upgrade rich to a premo

kat · 24/02/2016 at 17:27

Fyfe Ablett Pendles Sloane Rockliff Libba B.Crouch Polec – Gore freeman Keys

Bertie · 25/02/2016 at 19:07

I grabbed a pen & paper ready to jot down all of the supercoach wisdom about to come my way.
I jotted and jotted and jotted and jotted all the while grinning and laughing at the hilarious antics supplied by Jock & the team.
At the end of the podcast i tilted my head down towards the abundance of Knowledge that lay before me only to read…..

And since i can't remember my own name, i am called Bertie.

Jamie · 29/02/2016 at 02:44
