PODCAST: AFL 2016 Ruck Options

The best CoachKings and Supercoach ruck selections

The big bastards.

The tall timber. The Goliaths of our beautiful game.

As I explained over the weekend in my midriced ruck poll – not a line you want to get wrong. So often it’s the case that it’s not so much who you DO select in your ruck.. it’s who you DON’T select. This season it’s no different.

So whether you’re thinking Supercoach, CoachKings or AFL Fantasy.. you just need to whack the ear buds in and grab a notebook. This is a significant podcast community.

Importantly – here’s the CoachKings competition we discuss in the show:

Gaggin to see how your rucks are shaping up?

David · 15/02/2016 at 12:52

l think this year more than last year we need a ruck fwd in our fwd line and a ruck fwd on the pine in the ruck.

    Westy · 15/02/2016 at 13:14

That’s the way I’ve gone, David. Agree with you.
But Jock – you’ve all Lobbe-d me out of my slumber to go 2 Prem 1 Rook instead of 1 Prem, 1 Mid, 1 Rook in the rucks.

jockreynolds · 15/02/2016 at 12:53

Absolutely. Great observation David.

    chandanrajdb · 15/02/2016 at 14:41

    Hi Jock,

What are your thoughts on starting with Nic Nat and Mummy and then few rounds later hope Goldy drops in price and then just do a side ways trade of Mummy to Goldy…..yes I do understand sideways trade isn't the way to go in SC since the trades are limited, but when was the last time Mummy played for the whole season…?? so why not trade him a bit early even though he is going really well….Goldy has a tough start to the season and assume he will drop in price by rd 6 or 7….

    Thoughts please…

      jockreynolds · 15/02/2016 at 15:38

Raj – I've watched your development closely since you appeared in our pages a few seasons back. To say I'm impressed mate is an understatement. What you're suggesting is not something I recommend for an inexperienced fantasy coach. But coming from you with your talent – I'd say back yourself in and go for it.

I believe you can win Supercoach Raj. You're a hell of a talent

      fatboyfat7 · 15/02/2016 at 17:31

      Hi Raj,

I attempted a similar strategy last season with Mumford. Thought he'd get off to a flier and I could upgrade to Goldy after half a dozen rounds and save the cash. It didn't happen like unfortunately and I never managed to get Goldy in my team which essentially ruined my year.

I will not make that mistake ever again.

      Goldstein LOCKED R1 for mine…!

      Kev · 15/02/2016 at 18:35

Huge believer in starting with the premiums you want in your side from round 1. While your plan looks good on paper, there is ALWAYS something else going on that will take priority over a sideways trade.

      LuskinStar · 16/02/2016 at 08:08

I agree with some of the guys who say you may not be able to make the trade for various reasons but you have a better chance of trading mummy for goldy than trading Lobbe for goldy and even if you dont mummy and nic nat are not the worst ruckmen to finish the season with particularly if you use the money saved wisely.

      @wheels_1987 · 16/02/2016 at 10:34

Your trading strategy would have to be mind numbingly genius to pull this off. With rookie appreciation and injuries, burning trades in the RUC is dangerous. But as long as you have a solid PLAN and have contingencies then it could set you apart from the pack. Could be similar to the bruyn maneuver .

Myself im going Martin and Dog Dog
-no DDP rubbish, no stuffing around, locked and loaded, throw away the key

My view is that should i be hit with injuries, by that time (fingers crossed) goldy will be cheaper.

CammyKami · 15/02/2016 at 13:14

I like Max King of Melbourne as a R3. If my research is correct then in all but 1 round (Round 1, a non-league game round) at least one of Ablett, Goldy, Fyfe or Pendles play before him. Costs 117k but is worth it.

    Goldylock · 15/02/2016 at 13:24

You could put Mitchell King instead 117k ruck/fwd at Melbourne as well however after he's on the senior list instead of Max who is rookie listed so Mitchell could get a game but that would be unlikely.

      CammyKami · 15/02/2016 at 14:01

      who are you using?

        Goldylock · 15/02/2016 at 14:26

Definitely using one of them Melbourne looks the best club to use for loopholing I'm probably going with Mitchell King with that slight chance he may get a game.

          Donavan · 15/02/2016 at 19:07

Wouldn't want my loophole player to get a game, defeats the purpose of the loophole…for that reason Max King is a safer loophole

            Goldylock · 15/02/2016 at 19:36

Wise words there Donavan, makes sense that a loophole ruck should not be getting games now that I think of it

    BKW · 15/02/2016 at 16:10

Yep spot on – I’m using one of the two Melb lads, currently have Max

    jackhiggo · 17/02/2016 at 14:57

Can someone please explain to me the loophole with the R3 spot and why you need fa wd/rck in both ruck and fwd bench spots?

Derek · 15/02/2016 at 13:22

there seems to be quite a few Defense Rookies on the radar this year. What does this mean for a ruck discussion?
I was going fairly deep in Defence this year (BSmith at D5), but with a few rookie Defenders who look like they could get the job done, means i can play two on-field rookies, free up some cash upgreade a rookie to Crouch in the guts and more importantly bring in Big Goldstein into my R1.

    I N Pieman · 15/02/2016 at 13:30

Not a bad idea Derek. Been casting my eye over the rookies as always & there is no shortage in defence. S*it loads of em. Scoring potential is the only question mark. A lot are key defenders. Have to keep a close eye out in the NAB. Been going back & forth with Goldy. Biggest call of the preseason for sure. Leaning more towards giving him the nod.

      SCaddict · 15/02/2016 at 13:44

That's the way things seem to be shaping up early, spend huge in the rucks and guts and load up with cheapies at the bookends.

Will be interesting to see if this changes much after we get through the NAB but a lot of coaches appear to be leaning towards that sort of structure right now.

Looking forward to getting a squiz at the inner sanctum's overall team strategies as we approach Rd1.

        TRIGGER HAPPY · 15/02/2016 at 14:26

True. Amazing the difference between the team I started with and now. Big $ in the rucks has had a massive impact.

        @wheels_1987 · 16/02/2016 at 10:37

i have Matt DEA as my D4 and Lance Franklin as my F4

very weak in the bookends. My big worry is that my rookie DEF options dont generate enough cash.. I DO NOT want to be busting the budget upgrading my MID cash cows for DEF options.

    TRIGGER HAPPY · 15/02/2016 at 13:34

That’s the way I have gone depending on nab and which rook defenders put up their hand. 2 on the field. Large $ in ruck and crouch at m7.

    chandanrajdb · 15/02/2016 at 14:54

    Hi Derek,

I am going heavy in DEF….my team as it stands…..Reson for this most of the def rookies are KPP's and have got very little confidence in them making cash early….

    KK, J Bartel, E Yeo, B Smith, N Malceski, M Brown (M Hartley, N Broad)

    G Ablett, P Dangerfield, S Pendlebury, T Rockliff, T Liberatore, B Crouch, J Hopper, J Gresham (D Cuningham, B Keays, R Matheison)

Nic Nat, Shane Mumford (M King)

    D Martin, M Barlow, L Franklin, D Wells, J Simpkin, S Kerridge (C Petracca, S Grimley)

    Remaining Salary: $1,600

My thoughts are, it is looking likely that i will not be starting with Goldy….and just hope that he drops in value early in the season…and then sideways trade Mummy to Goldy….Mummy doesn't play the whole season (based on his injury history) anyways…and he generally starts the season well and when the time is right bring in Goldy for Mummy…

Goldy is the one person who is making it really difficult this year…..which also means have to restructure the whole team structure to fit him in as a starter…

    Thoughts would be appreciated….

      Derek · 15/02/2016 at 16:12

      Hi Raj,

Your team looks good. Not sure about Wells.

Ive been in the "Goldy too expensive" camp from day 1. However Norf's draw, especially after round 4 is very appealing!

I've also been against having too many Mid-pricers, IE Crouch. However i have been looking at his record two years ago and if he is up and going during NAB, he may pick himself.

My defence is pretty heavy because i don't want to rely on too many defense rookies. however there does seem to be more options than i first thought.

      My current team is:

Mcveigh, Bartel, Yeo, Rich, Smith, Brown (Hibberd, Broad)
Fyfe, Pendlebury, Ablett, JPK, Rocky, Libba, Cuningham, Mathieson (Keays, Menegola, Beech)
      NicNat, lobbe (Wyatt)
Martin, Barlow, Rioli, Simpkin, Kerridge, Petracca, (Phillips, McDonald-T)

However, if i go less in defense and bring in Crouch and Goldy, it looks like this:

Mcveigh, Bartel, Rich, Smith, Brown, Bonner (Hibberd, Broad)
Fyfe, Pendlebury, Ablett, JPK, Rocky, Libba, Crouch, Cuningham, (Keays, Mathieson, Beech )
      Goldy, lobbe (Wyatt)
Martin, Barlow, Rioli, Simpkin, Kerridge, Petracca, (Phillips, McDonald-T)

I'm starting to like the look of the "Goldy" team.

        chandanrajdb · 15/02/2016 at 16:29

        Hi Derek,

In regards to DEF rookies i have too many questions…..that is why NAB challenge is crucial to have a good look at these DEF rookies especially….

R Bonner: he is in my watchlist…..the question is, is he in the Port's best 22? not sure….they would likely be pushing to play finals and i am not sure if gets too many games to start with???

        Hibberd: Same as Bonner…

With Goldy my team looks like this,
        KK, J Bartel, B Smith, N Malceski, J Aish, M Brown (M Hartley, N Broad)
Gazza, Dangerfield, Pendles, Rocky, Libba, B Crouch, J Hopper, J Gresham ( D Cuningham, B Keays, R Mathesion)
T Goldy, S Martin (or Nic Nat) (M King)
        D Martin, M Barlow, L Franklin, D Wells, J Simpkin, S Kerridge ( C Petracca, S Grimley)

      David · 15/02/2016 at 16:13

Not sure about Barlow really think he’s on the decline. Don’t think he’ll average more than say degoey. You might be able to put the cash somewhere else.

        Leeds17 · 15/02/2016 at 16:37

Barlow is a lock for me this years D Swan,

        wombatsfc · 15/02/2016 at 21:49

Interesting opinion David but I had a look at Freo and I don't see anybody to replace him in the mids rotation and, with the new interchange and sub rules physics sort of demands that he'll average more than last year. Sadly NAB wont provide any insight on this one.

          Stiffy · 16/02/2016 at 07:15

Wombats whats your team look like?

      Derek · 15/02/2016 at 16:16

No Fyfe or Dangerfield, what is your thoughts there?

        chandanrajdb · 15/02/2016 at 16:34

Fyfe, I will wait to see how he goes and where he plays…..Ross Lyon himself has declared that Fyfe will be playing (50%) in the FWD this season……I am pretty sure he said (50 / 50) when someone asked him about where will FYFE play in the Twitter questions the other day…..I am pretty sure you can get this statement in afl.com.au website….. and also he has that injury cloud…..so not 100% on him as off now….

Dangerfield is in my team above and He is LOCKED in my team…..

          Derek · 15/02/2016 at 16:44

don't know why i didn't see danger. You only have 4 ultra premos in middle, makes Crouch at M6

            chandanrajdb · 15/02/2016 at 16:50

Since you have good Mid price options available in the Midfield why not go with that…..when I say mid-priced player Libba is priced as mid-price player, but he will be my M7 or M8 come season end IF he gets is 2013 / 14 form back……if not upgrade him…..

B Crouch – Very good mid-priced option IMO and happy to start with him and will upgrade him to a ULTRA premo at the right time….

And every year you get the high scoring Rookies in the midfield and I am hoping Hopper will be Cripps of 2016…..have heard only positives about him during the pre-season and that is why he is locked in my SC team since my 1st draft of the team…..but still have to watch him closely in the NAB challenge just to get some assurance in what people are talking about him…..

              wombatsfc · 15/02/2016 at 21:57

We live in the 'Lucky Country' Raj and our science blokes and shiela's recently helped prove the existence of gravitational waves thus, further proving Eisenstein's theory of relativity.
So, how much luck are you counting on with your team as selected? Remember that 50% of that will be bad, physics demands it.

              Matt · 16/02/2016 at 19:16

I agree with you Raj, B Crouch is undeniably going to be a good option at his price, but I also like Polec. I think his ability to score goals will also influence his scores greater than Crouch.

My midfield is Dangerfield, Ablett, Rocky, Parker, Gibbs, Libba, Polec, Hopper (Gresham, Cuningham, Polkinghorne)

Have Kerridge, Petracca and Grimley in the forward line with Martin, Barlow, Devon Smith, Wells and Simpkin. What are your thoughts on that? Should Craig Bird be included due to his scoring potential?

                chandanrajdb · 16/02/2016 at 19:48

                Hi Matt,

Both your midfield and FWD line looks very solid mate…..BIRD is priced awkwardly so IMO it is better to ignore him at this stage…..but he is on my watch list and will be watching his NAB challenge performances closely….

            Redgumwon · 15/02/2016 at 17:02

Hi Derek I've been following yours and a few others posts here for a while now. You and other make some very good comments. You know you're stuff and I was wondering if you play Supercoach Draft? We've got a league going of 8 and are looking for two more players if you're not in a league and are interested?

              Kev · 15/02/2016 at 19:12

Let’s not expect too much out of Lobbe/Crouch/JOM midprice options (you could put Polec in that group as well). All are coming back from LTI’s. They look good on paper but if there’s any sign of soreness they’ll be rested

              Derek · 15/02/2016 at 21:52

Thanks Red. I haven't played draft before, send me details and I'll have a crack

                Redgumwon · 16/02/2016 at 07:41

Excellent Derek. I'm waiting for the last of the regular guys to enter the league today or tomorrow. You can email me at [email protected] for the code or I'll post it here once he's in?

                Redgumwon · 16/02/2016 at 11:19

Hi Derek the last one of the regulars has entered the league. Our Supercoach Draft league code is 659240

We have one place left if anyone else is interested or you know of anyone else who may want to play.

Graham from Bluecruz from the league last year. If you're reading this I've emailed you the league details. We'd love to have you back again this year.

      wombatsfc · 15/02/2016 at 21:43

Hi Raj how are ya mate.
I know that you were a top 5 finisher in years gone by but, "I don't like your draft team".
Your on-field backline is $2.3 million of speculation except Jim so actually $1.84 million. I agree that all of your selections have merit but 5 out of the 6 were selected based on an if. What if things go the other way? What if in the first 3-weeks Brodie cops a headknock, Eski does another knee, Yeo gets another injury, KK proves to have peaked and, brown gets a shutdown role? Suddenly you've used 3 trades on defense and still only have one 90+ defender and need to trade more on that line.

In a nutshell I think that you've overspent on gambles at either end at the expense of your midfield.
I could easily be proven wrong but I don't see Hopper or Gresham averaging over 70.

        chandanrajdb · 16/02/2016 at 10:51

        Hi Wombats,

Very much appreciate your feedback mate….good to see you back….

I am pretty HAPPY with the PREMO players I have currently got in my team in DEF…..if they do not get hurt during the NAB challenge games and are all fit and ready to go for RD1, I WILL BE GOING ahead with these players (premo's)….

Couple of Premium Players in DEF who are my upgrade targets are H Shaw and J McVeigh……Shaw is too expensive IMO and I am not prepared to pay that much, I can guarantee you that he will drop in PRICE at some stage of the season…. hopefully it will be fairly early in the season…..

J McVeigh – He has got that injury cloud, and he just started running last month and hasn't had a decent / solid pre-season, YES I know he is a veteran, but IMO he will take some time to get his fitness back and in this process he will loose some value surely and will pick him then…

FYI, ROOKIES are subject to change based on the NAB challenge games / performances…..no one is locked as off now in my team…..

I would love to see your team……and would love to know in your opinion who will be the top 6 defenders at the end of season in supercoach…..

And also in regards to your comment to my speculative picks in DEF, i have got my own reasoning behind selecting each player in DEF…..

KK – he had a solid year last season, and will only improve this year IMO and should get good support with all their GUNS returning from injury……

J Bartel – he is GUN, no more to explain….under priced IMO…..

B Smith – yes I agree this is a risky pick which I am willing to take……

N Malceski – was injured a lot last year and never got to settle with his new team mates, by all reports he is having very good pre-season and with most of the GUN GCS players available for selection this year, I am SPECULATING he will be a TOP 6 if not TOP 10 defender come season end, that is why IMO he is good value and based on 2013 / 2014 he should be averaging around 90 to 100…..

Again thanks for your comment above mate much appreciated…..

          Cam · 16/02/2016 at 12:27

I'm currently toying with a similar train of though to you, Raj. At the moment I've stacked DEF as while there's plenty of rookies who will play, they probably won't appreciate much in comparison to their midfield counterparts. I guess there's also the double edged sword that ultra premium midfielders tend to maintain their value better than those up forward and down back. Keep in mind this may all change tomorrow, and they day after that, and the…

Murphy, Kolodjashnij, Bartel, Smith, Malceski, M Brown (M Brown, Hartley)
Dangerfield, Pendlebury, Ablett, Rockliff, Liberatore, Crouch, Hopper, Gresham (Jansen, Cuningham, Keays)
          Goldstein, Naitanui (Loersch)
Martin, Wingard, Barlow, Kerridge, Kommer, Petracca (Phillips, McDonald-Tipungwuti)

If the DEF rookies look good for scoring in NAB then I potentially could end up with 3 on field in favour of adding JPK to the midfield and/or a Dahlhaus or Greene up forward. Or swapping NicNat back out for Martin or Jacobs… So many permutations, so little time…

          Benjamima Puddleduck · 16/02/2016 at 19:04

I can see Bartel being the Sam Mitchel of 2016.
          Minus the corking

          Dean · 20/02/2016 at 23:12

Take it from me mate, defence is a very volatile position, history proves this year in and year out. The chances of your defenders averaging 90 to 100 is absurd. I can only pick 1 defender that I am confident that he will average 100 and thats Shaw who is very costly.

Your aiming way to high, if your defenders as they currently stand average around 80 that would be quite remarkable, IF it happens.

Matthew · 15/02/2016 at 13:30

Whats Wayno on ??? Goldy has AVG 111 pts in the last 5 years in SC ! Pretty consistant if you ask me Wayno ! NicNat still a good pick though !

    Dan · 17/02/2016 at 21:50

Stefan Martin 110 last 2 years also.

TRIGGER HAPPY · 15/02/2016 at 13:41

I hear you jock. No mucking around in rucks.

Goldy and Martin/Gawn at R2 with grimely swing at R3/F8.

    jockreynolds · 15/02/2016 at 14:27

Good man Trig. So bloody important to get these initial R1 and R2 selections spot on

      TRIGGER HAPPY · 15/02/2016 at 14:35

Really warming to gawn. If I take him instead of Martin allows me to go dahl over barlow. Liking the look of that.

brandonrom · 15/02/2016 at 14:13

Whats everyones thoughts on Will Minson. Seriously underpriced at 407k.
Averaged 115 in 2013,,,,,,,,,

    vinnymac · 15/02/2016 at 14:55

Hey brandonrom, I wouldn’t go with Minson since it’s just as likely that Tom Campbell or Roughead will be rucking. My guess is that they will all rotate with a handful of games each this season.

    Kevin Skywalker · 15/02/2016 at 15:15

Underpriced because of a relatively poor 2014 (dropped 22 points to 93 from 115 in his All Australian year 2013) and was out of favour at odds with Bevo who was happy to play him in the 2s. In 2015 averaging only 77. Unlikely to score more on average with the Dogs looking to use Campbell & Roughhead as their primary rucks and Tom Boyd and Redpath as back ups.

Phil · 15/02/2016 at 14:14

Rucks are causing me the most pain this year. My MIDS and FWDS have not changed for a while now and my DEF keep changing due to funds left over from RUCKS which keep changing. Lobbe or double premo is the question. Goldie is very close to a lock I think. R2 is the question and I'm torn. Thought it was out of Martin, NicNat & Lobbe but Jock has me thinking Gawn now…Also, Jacobs has to be considered for consistency and durability, particularly in this position. Decisions. SuperCoach will be won & lost in this position I think

    Phil · 15/02/2016 at 14:20

The worst part about it is we're gonna be none the wiser after the NAB because teams will play 2-3 ruckmen, so even Sir Goldstein will struggle to put together a decent score.

      I N Pieman · 15/02/2016 at 18:27

Don’t worry about super premos in the nab. They dangle there toes & strole around

Tom · 15/02/2016 at 14:24

Pick one out of

Parker, Shiel, Wines

    TRIGGER HAPPY · 15/02/2016 at 14:32

Could all b huge this year.

Sheil – does he get tagged more with treloar gone?

Parker – fighting with points with JPK, hanners, titch etc but is good enough to still score high

Wines – could this b his year? Is he too bullish?

Who knows? Can’t really go wrong with any of them if they stay on the park. Throw Adams into that lot as well.

    Kevin Skywalker · 15/02/2016 at 15:16

    Wines for me

    vchap · 15/02/2016 at 19:23

Close call but if i had to pick one it would be parker his already proven he can do it with a 108.5 ave in 2014. Last yr played with injuries so comming in well unders. His playing with a well established midfield in sydney so will be roaming free with oppostion teams targeting kennedy and hannerberry.

    Benjamima Puddleduck · 15/02/2016 at 20:21

    Wines all day

    wombatsfc · 15/02/2016 at 22:27

Ollie is a level above those other blokes

Keenbutclueless · 15/02/2016 at 14:44

Bullish on Stef. His two lowest scores last year were 67 and 76. In those games, Leuey scored 96 and 71. He scored 98 in round 16, Leuey scored 72. He scored 97 in round 17 and Leuey scored 98. My conclusion is that without Leuey, there is a good chance Stef can go even better in 2016.

    Shhhhh… 😉

matteus · 15/02/2016 at 15:38

277051 join up if you're serious about getting the top league

Mac · 15/02/2016 at 15:48

Word has it that Dougal Howard is impressive ruckman down at Port and is looking for a start in port's 22. Could impact lobbe.

    Stirlsy · 15/02/2016 at 16:55

Yeah Mac, someone has to give Lobbe a rest he isn't the type to ruck all day, BUT playing Howard with the other talls makes Ports FWD line top heavy I don't think they will go down that path, Lobbe will be their starting ruck IMO.

    @BarronVonCrow · 16/02/2016 at 18:15

Can't see him playing much myself as long as everyone is healthy. Seemed like just a regular season puff piece personally. Port can run with Lobbe as the main ruck and have Dixon, Westhoff or Trengove to spell him.

Johnno · 15/02/2016 at 16:02

Hey jock, heard no word on anyone selecting Eli Templeton. Surely at 190k he shows value. Wonderi if he has had an interrupted pre season and was a beast in his first season

    vchap · 15/02/2016 at 19:25

    Better options around that price.

    wombatsfc · 15/02/2016 at 21:59

Insight from a saints fan would be good

    Davo · 27/02/2016 at 12:49

No one called "Elli" getting in my team thats for sure.

neil. · 15/02/2016 at 16:14

raj you have 8 keepers in your team therefore you will need 28 trades given they cant go sidewards. is that wise understand about defence not scoring but for me too many mps my opinion only counts for zilch as I am crappy good luck my friend

    chandanrajdb · 15/02/2016 at 16:21

    Hi Neil,

You found only 8 Keepers in my team below??? the way i am looking at my current team i have at least 13 keepers…listed below,

KK, J Bartel, Yeo, Smith, Malceski(is the one who i have not considered in my count above, so it is 13 if you count him it will be 14)

    G Ablett, S Pendlebury, P Dangerfield, T Rockliff, T Libba

    Nic Nat…..

    D Martin, M Barlow, L Franklin

The players who i have got in my team are priced low based on their performance last season….they all are proven premos IMO..

    That's my thinking anyways…..

      Mac · 15/02/2016 at 16:40

Not too sure what team your looking at Neil, I would say Libba may not be a keeper, but may be handy bench cover if you keep him that long.

        chandanrajdb · 15/02/2016 at 16:44

        Libba, IF he gets his 2013 / 14 form back…..he is a Lock IMO(a solid M7 or M8 which I will be more than happy with)…..he averaged 106 in 2013 and 110 in 2014….

          Kev · 15/02/2016 at 19:18

Yeo or Smith will likely become the defender that goes bananas this year.

Really want Libba to succeed this year, but he may run out of puff and become a late season trade.

You’ll definitely rage trade Buddy at some point!

      Derek · 15/02/2016 at 16:52

i was thinking the same as Neil. With Crouch at M6, you just seemed one or maybe two Keepers short. Keeper being someone who will be in your team Round 23. Don't think Libba is a keeper, he might start to get tired mid-season, not in my top 10 midfielders.
Buddy might be a keeper on a dry day.
      As for Defenders, who knows?

neil. · 15/02/2016 at 16:28

matter of opinion my good friend I personally rate 500 to 580 premium and 580 plus super premiums they give you 130 goldy danger etc you should have at least 4 of these. once again my thoughts I would be pleased to haveyou in my league 603504 it was very successful lthxast year great to have good competition

    Derek · 15/02/2016 at 16:55

i've already jumped into your leage Neil

Roberto · 15/02/2016 at 16:39

Any thoughts on Jamar?

    chandanrajdb · 15/02/2016 at 16:40

IMO…..absolutely NO….too old in my opinion…he isn't a SC relevant anymore and has past his prime….

    SCaddict · 15/02/2016 at 18:53

Very likely would only see any game time if Leuey went down. More there for list depth and mentoring of the youth.

Stiffy · 15/02/2016 at 16:41

Thoughts on Shaw? Thinking he may get locked down by a defensive forward this year and will limit his scoring? Thats why i'm not starting with him.

    TRIGGER HAPPY · 15/02/2016 at 16:45

Spent $ else where so a no for me

      Derek · 15/02/2016 at 17:05

GWS should be a pretty competitive side this year, plenty of youngsters starting become mature footballers. Don't think Shaw will have as much of the ball as he did last year

        TRIGGER HAPPY · 15/02/2016 at 17:13

        R u cooling on shaw? 🙂

          Derek · 15/02/2016 at 21:58

I think he will be top 8 defenders, will get him cheaper.

            TRIGGER HAPPY · 17/02/2016 at 09:29

Yeah I think he had the perfect season last year so I believe he will drop in price but still b one of the top defenders.

    SCaddict · 15/02/2016 at 18:57

Probably would be paying a significant mark up on a player who had the perfect season last year where nothing went wrong whatsoever.

Heater usually has a few mishaps each season so I'd be quite surprised if he can replicate his 2015 numbers.

    vchap · 15/02/2016 at 19:13

I expect him to aveage a 95 worst case scenario, even tho thats well below ave last yr i see him as the safest bet to finish the season as a top 6 defender and that assurance makes his starting price worth it in a year where as much as 25 different players can realistically finish the year as a top 6 defender.

      wombatsfc · 15/02/2016 at 22:13

      I agree.
At the business end of the season we'd all gladly part with 100k for an extra trade and, we all know that shaw will be a must have defender. So, if you think that he's overpriced, factor in the value of the trade that you'll eventually use to get him

    @wheels_1987 · 16/02/2016 at 10:39

    SHAW is a LOCK

    2006 21 100.7
    2007 22 106.3
    2008 18 91.5
    2009 18 94.7
    2010 19 90.2
    2011 14 100.9
    2012 18 101.2
    2013 19 96.9
    2014 18 92.6
    2015 22 112.6

The Ranger · 15/02/2016 at 16:45

Jeez these bloody rucks are doing my head in Jock!
I agree that it's a big call to leave out Goldy but that's a lot of money to spend that can be used so nicely elsewhere!

My current team is…

Simpson, Bartel, Yeo, Aish + 4 x rookies
Danger, Ablett, Pendles, Rockliff, Priddis, Duncan, Libba + 4 x rookies
Nic Nat, Lobbe + a loophole
Chopsticks, Dahlhaus, Higgins, Wells + 4 x rookies

It makes such a difference to all the other lines if I put Goldy in!

    The Ranger · 15/02/2016 at 17:20

    Sod it.
Just swapped out Nic Nat for Goldy and Duncan for Crouch.
I was really strong on Duncan but I just can't leave Goldy out.
If he goes down in Rd 1 I'm quitiing SC for good!!

      SCaddict · 15/02/2016 at 19:09

Reckon that's a good move mate. Can see a lot of folk kicking themselves early in the season after seeing Goldy's output and realising there's no easy way to bring him in until after you've missed much of the action.

Crouch is also poised for a huge season if he can stay healthy, even if every cookie cutter team out there has him. There are just some things you don't want to miss out on and there's a decent chance that Crouch will be one of them just like Beams and Sandi in 2014 and Swanny in 2015.

        The Ranger · 15/02/2016 at 22:08

        I hope you're right mate!
It does also free up $50k and I'm seriously considering keeping hold of that.
Last year I started the season with no spare cash and then after a couple of rounds, when it was clear what rookies I needed to bring in, I could only bring in rookies that were the same price as the ones I was getting rid of. I'm keen to start the season with some spare cash this season so that I have some cash to play with if need be.
Anyone else planning on doing similar?

          hedski · 16/02/2016 at 09:32

Yeah Ranger I have a $74k kitty for that reason.

            The Ranger · 16/02/2016 at 10:18

Thanks Hedski. I've seen lots of people mention they only have a few grand left and that doesn't make sense to me.
getting the right rookies is so important, I want to make sure I have some wriggle rioom this year!

neil · 15/02/2016 at 17:30

Hi Raj to me keepers are the top 6 in each line for instance def shaw McDonald laird simpson houli and rance.that was similar to most top 10 teams last year. I started with the team I wanted to finish withand worked backwards.I have 14 over 500 keepers that were in these teams players such as bartel eski k.k smith will not make the top 10.Its tricky and def is a real low scoring area for rookies and probably needstop ups . my opinion only Raj please feel free to join my league a top league last year 603504 cheers Neil

Cozza · 15/02/2016 at 17:33

I might have missed it, but there didn't seem to be any discussion on Martin in the podcast – I've had him locked in at R1 since team picker dropped – now considering Goldy at R1 and Martin at R2 – serious coin in the rucks, but they seem to be the two standouts to me and an easy set/forget.

Am I missing something with Martin, or does he speak for himself?

    SCaddict · 15/02/2016 at 19:18

Nah don't worry Cozza he'll be a popular selection. Good chance he'll make my final team assuming nothing significant happens to change my mind during the NAB such as an injury setback etc.

    hedski · 16/02/2016 at 08:46

Im goin same cozza set forget

Brycey · 15/02/2016 at 17:58

One boy that hasn’t been spoken about at all is that gorgeous lad down at the pies. Grundy a lock for mine as r2. Huge upside with the kid.

    Derek · 16/02/2016 at 08:06

I do like pies early draw

Super Rabbit · 15/02/2016 at 18:04

What about Martin and Blicavs? Absolutely no mention in the Podcast, and they’re both in my team. Both bloody locks for 110+ avg this year imo.

    SCaddict · 15/02/2016 at 19:30

My only reservation with Blicavs is how his role may evolve with Smith, Vardy, Stanley and Danger all in the mix now. He is such a versatile player that Scotty could use him in a number of different ways – but will this be a Supercoach optimised role??

I say this as an exceedingly satisfied Blitz owner for much of last season (once I was able to give TBC the flick) so hopefully he'll be another awesome selection again.

No issues with Martin though and a strong chance I will start with him myself. Such a great ruck and around the ground player who still probably has some improvement left in him.

Should only shine further now that Leuey has packed his bags and the Lions have a healthier list.

    Supercoach Central · 16/02/2016 at 17:57

    doubt Blicavs will avg 110

Stirlsy · 15/02/2016 at 18:10

Take out last year and then take a look at that avg 106.6 still consistant … So was it a stellar year for Goldy or the new Ruck scoring system that pushed him to a new height in SC or both? Can or will he go 128 avg again this season that's the big question mark or come back to the pack with a 110 to 115 avg. Put it this way if you were running a book on Goldy to repeat the 128.8avg or Fyfe to repeat his 124.3 who would you have as favorite ??? Fyfe would be odds on and Goldy at 5to2 on my book. He is still the top ruckman in the league but I see him coming back to the pack this season. I'm going in without him.

    Derek · 16/02/2016 at 08:14

I agree he is still number 1. I also believe his price will not increase and may even fall. There will be time to get him later.

BigHaydos · 15/02/2016 at 18:48

guys why has no one mentioned Daniel Currie? he is clearly going to play for the gold coast suns this year? 163k….. will make cash

    I N Pieman · 15/02/2016 at 19:10

He’s on my radar mate. Big time. But not on the ground

      BigHaydos · 15/02/2016 at 19:34

yeah mate not on the ground, my R3. Should play all 22 games if not injured and definitely good for bye round cover and a great cash cow to cull. Lets say he averages 75. By round 13 he will have made a great chunk of cash to cull. Then lets say we inject that profit into a Crouch, Wells, Aish, etc etc…… Thats definitely a premo for sure. Seems extremely safe to me mate. He didnt get a run at north melbourne due to Goldy being in the way. But the bloke can play and GC wouldnt have traded for him just to sit on the pine!

        wombatsfc · 15/02/2016 at 22:29

Hey Bigfella why do you think Currie will play every game?
        Did Tommy's legs fall off?

          BigHaydos · 16/02/2016 at 20:06

          Hey mate,

I think he will play every game because Gold Coast traded him in for a reason and he was starved of opportunity at the Roos. He is extremely athletic and would pair up with Nicholls for a great ruck combo

He can take a grab too!

          Good luck this year wombat

    SCaddict · 15/02/2016 at 19:53

Shame he doesn't have DPP eligibility as that would make him much more attractive at that higher rookie price tag. A bargain in the AFL Fantasy code though.

Definitely one to keep an eye on during the NAB without doubt.

      BigHaydos · 15/02/2016 at 20:04

Yeah his price is almost awkward in creating line ups. He has been in and out of my team for the last week, definitely lots of upside but that 60 odd grand extra invested into him is a big commitment

I will be watching him in person this sunday at Burpengary against my mighty Lions

    Swans2012 · 16/02/2016 at 12:22

I like him, there is a chance he could really stand up this year, just been begging for a chance. He’ll slot straight into my team if named round one after looking the goods in nab

vchap · 15/02/2016 at 19:28

Whats everyones thoughts on simpkin vs anderson vs b.kennedy?

    Hudson · 15/02/2016 at 19:29

    anderson then kennedy then simpkin

      FootyFanatic · 15/02/2016 at 19:38

I think Simpkin would be ahead of Kennedy

        Vchap · 15/02/2016 at 19:40

        true dat

        Redgumwon · 15/02/2016 at 19:43

Simpkin can turn it over a bit and is priced more than Kennedy. At this stage Anderson, Kennedy then Simpkin for me

          FootyFanatic · 15/02/2016 at 20:30

Yea he can occasionally, but in my opinion I still think Simpkin is ahead of Kennedy. Simpkin has much less competition for his spot whereas Ben Kennedy will be fighting for a spot as a small fwd. Simpkin averages 79 in full games since the start of 2013 to 2015, whereas Kennedy has only score 80+ once in his career.

            Redgumwon · 15/02/2016 at 21:29

Kennedy was wearing the vest in plenty of his games. So we have to take into account his sub effected scores

    SCaddict · 15/02/2016 at 20:31

Definitely one of those 'get back to me after the NAB' type of questions. Would only be guessing at best right now.

Hudson · 15/02/2016 at 19:28

Who does everyone reckon will be in the top 8 mids this year i asked this question on the other ruck poll but i was still curious on some other peoples thoughts, my 8 are (in no particular order) Fyfe,Danger, Ablett, Rockliff, Pendelbury, Priddis, Beams and Mundy with JPK not far behind, selwood would be up their too but i think he'll have a slow start to the year

    Vchap · 15/02/2016 at 19:36

fyfe, ablett, rockliff, beams ,hannebery, gray, shiel, lewis

      Stiffy · 15/02/2016 at 20:01

No way Lewis tops Pendles, Priddis

      FootyFanatic · 15/02/2016 at 20:12

I'd bet my left nut that Lewis won't finish in the top ten, the bloke has only averaged 100+ twice in his 10 year career

    SCaddict · 15/02/2016 at 20:11

I'll go with Fyfe, Danger, Pendles, Gaz, Beams, Hanners, JPK, Rocky

There are always surprises every season though so I expect as much as half this list to end up being wrong for one reason or another.

    Eric_the_Red · 15/02/2016 at 20:40

I'd be confident picking Fyfe, Danger, Ablett, Pendlebury, Beams, Hannebery, Rockliff, Gray

      Derek · 15/02/2016 at 22:05

    holty · 15/02/2016 at 22:21

Are we talking averages or total points? if it is total points, you would be insane picking Beams as he has never in his career played an entire season. If talking total points, id say
Titch. (just have a sneaky feeling)

    TRIGGER HAPPY · 16/02/2016 at 11:15

Someone will always comes from the clouds so hard to predict like libba in 2014 and hannas in 2015. If u can pick the mover then u r ahead of the pack.

But think u could safely lock in barring injuries fyfe, danger, priddus, rocky and ablett. The others it is a raffle as depends on role and others in the team taking points off them but have a feeling gray will b right up there this year.

    BKW · 16/02/2016 at 11:54

Yep very hard to predict a top 8 – any of these guys could slot in there, and as pointed out depends if we are talking ave scores or total points.

Garry, Danger, Fyfe, Pendles, Rocky, Gray, Priddis, Beams, JPK, Hanners, Bontempelli, Sloane, Duckwood

Peter DickInABottom · 15/02/2016 at 20:10

That's about the nicest thing anyones said about me. Thanks rectumluv

Tom · 15/02/2016 at 20:43

What do we think Luke Parker can average this year?

Bit down last year but averages 109 in last 13 games (excluding last injury affected game)

    holty · 15/02/2016 at 22:32

gun. he and hannebery i feel will get the attention though from opposition. only reason I’m going with jpk and titch

    @wheels_1987 · 16/02/2016 at 10:41

    Heres the stats on him
make your own mind up. i wont get him but he is prime for a break out

    2011 11 52.1
    2012 16 70.9
    2013 22 86.9
    2014 22 108.5
    2015 19 99.7

      BKW · 16/02/2016 at 11:56

Yeah I like him but he is coming off a broken ankle… I won’t be starting with him but on the watch list as an upgrade for sure

DuckingTigers · 15/02/2016 at 21:04

I had Bellchambers as insurance at D4 last year. Once again I didn't read the policy closely enough and while the premium seemed cheap the promised benefits weren't as expected. A few times I couldn't reach the claims department although I did receive a very nice doughnut in the post. When claims were actually received I didn't get what I thought I'd paid for. As such I'm reluctant to buy a SuperCoach insurance policy for 2016 unless anyone can convince me that it could be worth it this year.

    wombatsfc · 15/02/2016 at 22:26

Dude that was a ridiculously expensive insurance policy. That was like paying 5k for insurance with a 5k excess on a 7k car

      DuckingTigers · 15/02/2016 at 22:29

Yes and when I cancelled it, no refund was forthcoming.

    Phil · 15/02/2016 at 22:44

Hahha yeah I might just go with the 3rd-party insurance in the rucks this year…..R1 + R2 and if one gets injured, trade in a 3rd party.

    @wheels_1987 · 16/02/2016 at 10:42

im considering Sandilands as a POD this year. very good ruckman with some very good midfielders around him…thoughts community?

    holty · 15/02/2016 at 22:25

injury risk bud. did well last year but he is like big mummy. likely hood of them making it to the end of season is slim.

      TRIGGER HAPPY · 16/02/2016 at 11:19

Not sure that one rings true anymore? Last two years sandi has played 21 games. So pretty durable recently.

        Benjamima Puddleduck · 16/02/2016 at 19:10

Yep, i thought the above comment was out by a good bit too. Sandi seems super underrated this year.

    Phil · 15/02/2016 at 22:49

One advantage is he doesn't have to play against himself! He is getting old but like the saying goes "the fast players become slower but the tall players don't become shorter! Go for it I'd say.

    wombatsfc · 15/02/2016 at 22:52

Mate if he's fit he's a bloody good choice.

    SCaddict · 15/02/2016 at 23:58

Tooth length can't be ignored at 33 years old. Will that huge frame stand up to the rigours of yet another season with decreasing rotations? Also always have to worry about those Rossy rests and when they may land.

Would be a fairly ballsy POD but I think I'll stick to the more popular selections when it comes to those crucial ruck spots.

    LuskinStar · 16/02/2016 at 13:00

Rested rd 23 but prior to that averaged 139 in his last 5 games. Reads like a good choice to me.

Cozza · 15/02/2016 at 23:59

Was planning on a Martin/Lobbe ruck combo, but you've changed my mind Jock. Now managed a team I'm fairly happy with with a Goldy/Martin ruck combo.

Team is:
McVeigh, Bartel, Yeo, Malceski, Aish, MBrown (Hibberd, Broad)
Pendlebury, Ablett, Rockliff, Wines, Liberatore, O'Meara, Crouch, Mathieson (Polkinghorne, Keays, Menegola)
Goldy, Martin (Grimley)
Martin, Barlow, Sinclair, Wells, Simpkin, Petracca (Kerridge, Beech).

$19.3k left. Rooks obviously subject to selection/NAB challenge. Going fairly light on in the back and forward lines, but think there is good upside to each Malceski, Aish, Wells and Simpkin. Not sold on Sinclair – may upgrade him and downgrade one of the mid pricers, but we'll see after NAB.

Other option is Martin/Lobbe ruck which leaves $324.8k to upgrade a couple of mid pricers or bring a Fyfe/Danger in.

I'll be watching Lobbe closely in NAB Cup, but word is that he wasn't that great in the intraclub. Welcome any thoughts you have on the Goldy/Martin team – thanks!

    mcveigh is injured atm

i would avoid for now and go cheaper like RICH

      TRIGGER HAPPY · 16/02/2016 at 11:21

Ditto JOM unlikely starter Rd 1.

    Avzmo · 16/02/2016 at 11:26

Although O'Meara and Crouch were good lookers earlier on, they might not be right to go with their injury concerns. Then you would need to think twice about bringing in One using a trade, when they probably won't be top 15 midfielders this year, so you would need to use another trade later on. Maybe look at options without O'Meara and Crouch?

      Derek · 16/02/2016 at 11:54

      I think I’ll give Crouch a miss.

I had a look at Crows draw. No easy games in first 8.

North, port, Tigers, swans, Hawks, Fremantle, dogs, cats.

      Cozza · 16/02/2016 at 12:02

Thanks guys – I'll definitely be keeping a close eye on those guys leading up to R1. I agree that they may not be keepers for the full season, so it may be better in the long run to go with an extra premo and an extra rookie.

As enticing as JOM and Crouch are – they are probably extra trades to burn during the year, so maybe they are fools gold.

Rick Grimes · 16/02/2016 at 07:15

Who are most critical to have from the get go, assuming you can't pick them all:

    Derek · 16/02/2016 at 08:40

Ablett is locked. Suns have Essendon first up! Plus Carlton and Bris in weeks 3 & 4.

Pendlebury is locked. He will be starting the year fit for the first time in 3 years. He is Collingwood best player and I can see a typical Mammoth Curve happening as he starts his 10th year. Pies have Swans & Richmond to start, but then are gifted a dream run of games: Saints, Melb, Essendon, WCE, Carlton, Brisbane!

Fyfe has been injured and might start a bit slower than his price tag. Ross says he will be forward more this year, which means he will be 100% midfield ;). Fremantles draw is ok, interestingly Fremantle have 4 of their last 5 games at home.

Dangerfield is the risky pick of these 4. At the Crows he was god-like and did what he liked. I can’t see Selwood, Bartel, Enright & co letting the new kid get all the footy. I think the cats are a serious title contender this year and Dangerfield will be given a “role” to play. Ie the hawthorn way. Danger needs to fit into a new team first.

      Derek · 16/02/2016 at 08:48

Not letting him get all the footy

        Derek · 16/02/2016 at 10:03

start with all 4 if you can

      TRIGGER HAPPY · 16/02/2016 at 11:41

Got burnt more than once last year by not having danger so made the call no matter what unless injured he is in.

Gonna b hard to vc loop abs Rd 1 if u have king as he plays after dees so unless u pick a blue/tige then I think u need to say bugger it and put the C on abs and trust him to deliver the choccies.

    Marc · 16/02/2016 at 09:24

Pendles and danger. Ablett is injured again and fyfe is to risky coming off his injuries

      Bg G · 16/02/2016 at 09:45

I am starting to worry about GAJ as well. I see Fyfe as an Ablett 5 years ago – a serious freak that unless he breaks his leg I am willing to pay any price for him.

      Derek · 16/02/2016 at 10:04

I don’t think Alberts injury is much to worry about

        Kev · 16/02/2016 at 12:55

Ahhh, the Gaz debate. Brings back memories. Importantly it’s not his shoulder, and he’s been doing contact work. He’s still in my team. We know what he’s capable of and is an absolute bargain at that price

    The Ranger · 16/02/2016 at 10:15

I can only fit three in my starting line up and have gone for Ablett, Pendles and Danger on the back of Fyfes injury and the fact he may possibly spend more time forward but really you can flip a coin, they'll all be top six and quite possibly the top four.

    @wheels_1987 · 16/02/2016 at 10:43

i have all of these except Danger

    thats just my opinion though

    Grahame Lebroy · 16/02/2016 at 11:43

For me in order, Danger, Fyfe, Gaz then Pendles.
I think Pendles will slip a little this year. Can’t see Danger being affected swapping clubs, he will be Cats best player, and I don’t care if Fyfe rests in Fwd line at times, he is a SC scoring freak. Gazza is Gazza, but with getting older more injuries could come so I am wary with him

    Cozza · 16/02/2016 at 12:07

For me it is GAJ>Pendles>Danger>Fyfe, although not much between any of them.

Pendles has been solid for years – if he has a role change as has been mooted it is likely to only improve his scoring, as it did last year when he played the Cats in that same role.
Danger – only hesitant because of new club – for me it is a wait and see if this impacts his scoring, but can;t see any major change
Fyfe – the talk of a role change has me a bit more unsure on Fyfe. The fact that he played in the intraclub is encouraging, but I am wanting to see how the extra time in the forward line affects him – could be positive if he hits the scoreboard, but could also mean he's not getting as much pill around the ground.

Either way, I'd be happy with all 4 in my team!

    LuskinStar · 16/02/2016 at 12:51

For me Ablett is first and then danger. Hearing things about change in role for the other 2 that puts me off a bit.

Derek · 16/02/2016 at 11:04

How many teams will be running two ruckmen, ie Hawthorn? And which teams are going lone wolf?

    Derek · 16/02/2016 at 11:09

Before the sub rule, a lot of teams were playing two ruckmen.

Obviously the interchange rule will make it different, but I wouldn’t mind betting that as the year goes on, more teams will be thinking about 2 rucks. It worked before, I can see teams developing a strategy to make the Lone Wolf ruckman have to work very hard against a tandem ruck combination.

      Redgumwon · 16/02/2016 at 11:27

I think most teams will run one ruckman and have a pinch hitter to give the main ruck a rest up forward. Port will run Lobbe most of the day and have Dixon or Westhoff spend limited time in filling in the ruck

Derek the draft league code is 659240

If anyone else want to play or you know of anyone give them the details as we have one place open still after you join

        Derek · 16/02/2016 at 11:49

        Thanks Red

      Phil · 16/02/2016 at 12:46

Derek I've been thinking about this one too and I don't think much is going to change in regards to ruckman this year. In fact I don't think this new rotation rule is going to change that much at all. I can't see why teams would play an extra ruckman, at the expense of an extra midfielder, just because the rotations are capped. Teams are gonna need that extra guy who can push into the midfield to relieve his teammates more than ever.

GoHawks · 16/02/2016 at 11:33

NotAGhostShip · 16/02/2016 at 12:15

I'm torn between Goldy + Lobbe, or Goldy + Martin

    Jackson · 16/02/2016 at 12:41

It's a tough one mate, best way to work it out is try to guess the points both players will average. If you think Martin is 15-20 points per week better, I'd go with him. Also matters what you're doing with the extra 200k. If you are a picking another mid-pricer instead of a rookie, then I'd probably back in Martin & the rookie….Reason being the rookie should give you as much cash generation as the 2 mid-pricers combined and you get a premium.

GoHawks · 16/02/2016 at 12:53

Appreciate you thoughts on my first cut of team. Sure to change plenty before the season starts-

Shaw, Simpson, Smith, Malceski, Seedsman, Aish (M.Brown -Ess, Hibberd)

Pendlebury, Ablett, Rockliff, Libba, O'Meara, D.Thomas, B.Crouch, Conca (Parish, Trengrove-Melb, Keys)

Goldstein, Lobbe (Max King)

D.Martin, Hogan, D.Menzel, Wells, Anderson, Kerridge (Kommer, Petracca)

My question marks hoover over Daisy Thomas & Reece Conca in the mids, and Jessie Hogan in the forward line.

Thanks for you wisdom in advance.

    Derek · 16/02/2016 at 13:02

GoHawks doesn't have any Hawthorn players! very wise.

Your team has alot of depth but i worry about your ability to generate enough cash to reach full premium. You will need to make alot of upgrades as well, so i see you getting short on trades.

      GoHawks · 16/02/2016 at 13:22

Thanks Derek, will look at options.

Also love the Hawks, but they share the ball around. Same reason I love them, is the reason I have none in my team.

        Derek · 16/02/2016 at 14:04

i'm also a big Hawks Fan, and usually have a No hawks Rule. Although i couldn't resist SMitchell from Round 1 last year and obviously Hodge came into my team during last year as well.

I keep looking at Rioli this year. Whats are your thoughts on him?

          GoHawks · 16/02/2016 at 14:35

Rioli was amazing last year, and is thus priced at $500k. Just think we have too many options in the small forward brigade to pick any of them for SC.

For the extra $21k i would prefer Gunstan with Roughy out.

But looking forward to seeing what Clarko makes of the forward-line challenge without Roughy, we saw how they struggled without Buddy….lol

            Derek · 16/02/2016 at 15:12

without Roughie, someone has to kick all the goals, i was thinking Rioli might get a few of them. plus he has worked on his fitness alot and he could get more mid-field time.

i would just love to have in my team

            TRIGGER HAPPY · 16/02/2016 at 16:18

Word is they r going to see how Fitzpatrick goes in the nab up fwd as a possible fill in for roughie

              Derek · 16/02/2016 at 17:15

nah. They will play Shoenmakers up forward with Gunston and have the Rucks resting up there.

    Rick Grimes · 16/02/2016 at 13:15

I would describe this team as 'mid-priced madness'. Maybe I'm too much of a guns and rookies man, but I'd personally drop a few of the mid price punts and pump up the premium levels. I see only 9(ish) keepers in that lot. Wouldn't go near Daisy.

      GoHawks · 16/02/2016 at 13:20

Thanks for the feedback, may look to do something like-

Downgrade – Thomas, Conca & Anderson
      Upgrade- JOM, Hogan & ??

        GoHawks · 16/02/2016 at 13:41

Taking into consideration feedback, I have made some changes, resulting in-

Shaw, Simpson, Smith, Malceski, Seedsman, Aish (M.Brown -Ess, Hibberd)

Pendlebury, Ablett, JPK, Rockliff, Libba, O'Meara, B.Crouch, Parish (Jansen, Gresham, Keys)

        Goldstein, Jacobs (Max King)

D.Martin, D.Menzel, Wells, Simpkin, Curnow, Kerridge (Kommer, Petracca)

So added the extra keepers of JPK & Jacobs, still a make shift forward line, but I see Menzel & Wells being possible keepers, with cash generation from Simpkin, Curnow & Kerridge & Bench.

          Derek · 16/02/2016 at 14:01

I don't think O'Meara will be ready for round 1. I'm thinking at least until round 3 or 4.

            Rick Grimes · 16/02/2016 at 14:16

Agree on this. Really like Jaegerbomb but he's too much of a risk for mine. Really like the Sauce selection, ultra consistent. With that ruck combo I think you can afford to take your punts in the forwards.

              Derek · 16/02/2016 at 15:13

Have a look at the Crows first 8 games. Then have a think about Jacobs!

          Cozza · 16/02/2016 at 14:29

Think that looks a lot better GoHawks.

I agree that the forwards looks a bit light on – might be worthwhile considering downgrading one of Malceski, Seedsman or Aish to a rookie and upgrading one of the midprice forwards to a premo.

          Krups · 16/02/2016 at 14:55

FWD line to weak bloke. Need at least 3 high scoring players in the F1 to F3 spots. In my book I see these as keepers all year. Need to make sure out of your starting lineup you have 12 keepers. Reckon your about 2 short.

For mine big stef is more consistent Aaron cheers

    holty · 16/02/2016 at 15:20

Stef better around the ground so if he comes up against a big ruck where he wont be getting to many hitouts, he still gets his hands on the ball elsewhere.

    FootyFanatic · 16/02/2016 at 21:50

Big stef would be the better scorer but if your tight for cash then go Nic Nat

holty · 16/02/2016 at 16:19

on another note, a mystery benefactor has just paid off Hirds $750000 legal bill. i hope that is the last we hear about Hird and we can finally get into the real stuff. Come on the footy

    Fancy seeing you guys here

Titan · 16/02/2016 at 17:20

Listening and reading to this had me thinking about nic naylt and lobbe which i had

And ine of the main things that got me going was that ill need at least 1 trade to get to goldy

But thats if i have money in the bank

So more likely need 2 trades to get him

And i dont wat to use trades if not needed

So i changed my team around a bit to find 300k to get him in

And this is what ive come up with

Kk, docherty, smith, aish and rookies x4

Pendles, ablett, shiel, rocky, wines, libba, parish, rookies x4

Goldy, nic nat, rookie

Martin, franklin, billings, greene, sinpkin, rookies x3

No coin left

But if i was to downgrade anyone it would be greene and upgrade my wines or shiel or maybe even both

Thoughts wiuld be great

    CoachDamo · 16/02/2016 at 21:20

You might look at someone more reliable in defence – maybe Bartel or Shaw (depending on how much cash you can find). Having Aish and 2 rookies on the field could be a danger.

    Swans2012 · 17/02/2016 at 09:33

I have no problem with this team, im not taking goldy but if I was my team would be similar to this. Not sold on billings and Franklin but this time of year it’s just personal opinion….

Basil · 16/02/2016 at 17:21

appreciate your guys thoughts on my first team
Defenders- Bartel, Yeo, Smith, Brown, Brown, Hartley (Bryne, Hibbered)
Midfield- Fyfe, Pendelbury, GAJ, Rockliff, Parker, Liberatore, Crouch, Petracca ( Kerridge, Cunningham, jansen)
Ruck- Martin, Lobbe (loersch)
Forward- Martin, Dahlhaus, Barlow, Stringer, Simpkin, Cockatoo (Kommer, Cox)

Cant decide between Stef Martin or Nic Nat, I was thinking of having both but would mean I would probably keep both for the season meaning I cannot bring in Goldy latter on.

    Kev · 16/02/2016 at 17:27

Not bad first up, mate. Personally I’d go to M6 with premiums rather than F4, especially with such a skinny backline

    CoachDamo · 16/02/2016 at 21:18

I'm the opposite to Kev…I don't mind having more rookies in the midfield because they'll generate cash for you (think of Vandenberg, Cripps, Miller, Ellis-Yolmen, etc. last year).

Stiffy · 16/02/2016 at 17:58

Thoughts? 57k in the bank

KK, Yeo, Smith, Aish, Brown, Broad, Collins, Collins
Fyfe, Pendles, Ablett, Priddis, Rocky, Libba, Hopper, Gresham Cuningham, Keays, Mathieson
Goldstein, Nic Nat, Wyatt
Dusty, Dahlhaus, Barlow, Simpkin, Kerridge, Petracca, Grimley, Skinner

    Phil · 16/02/2016 at 20:53

I'm all for a cheap defence this year too I just think you need Bartel to give it a bit of stability. Other lines really good.

    CoachDamo · 16/02/2016 at 21:13

Looks good! I agree with Phil, it's hard to know what KK, Yeo and Smith will do this year so having someone a little more reliable might be a safer option.

My main concern in the midfield is Ablett. Remember he only played 6 games last year and now his preseason has been interrupted by that foot injury. Personally I'd like to see him our on the park for a few weeks before I invest.

    Good luck!

@BarronVonCrow · 16/02/2016 at 18:20

Decided i'm not fluffing around with any midprice stuff in the ruck. Just sticking with Goldstein/Martin as the main rucks and not spending much time worrying about it from there. Currently have some rando ruc/fwd guy from Gold Coast as my R3 and Grimley as my F8 (providing he's playing) and that'll open up a swing set should I need to use it.

    hedski · 16/02/2016 at 20:15

gday barron vc. Probably wouldn’t want a suns ruckman as loophole hard to use gaz?

      @BarronVonCrow · 17/02/2016 at 14:01

Good point, but who says I have Gaz?

I do, but I just wanted to scare you for a second!

    chandanrajdb · 16/02/2016 at 20:30

M King from Melbourne FC is perfect IMO, since they play more sunday games…..if you tight in budget Chol from richmond isn't a bad option i think…..

      BKW · 17/02/2016 at 08:57

Richmond play a lot of Friday night games – I’d avoid personally

      @BarronVonCrow · 17/02/2016 at 14:01

Good looking out, mate. I'm going to crunch all the numbers closer to the year, but he's def another option too.

      DuckingTigers · 17/02/2016 at 20:44

But which M, King? I can't decide betwwen the two.

neil · 16/02/2016 at 18:52

Hi Mr Barron I agree goldy martin but why waste your time with a rando ruc /fwd from gc just have grimely r3 and some cheap snotty nosed kid at f8 .he may get a game and increase in value not like the rando playing for Labrador.only my thoughts

    Stiffy · 16/02/2016 at 19:00

Because r3 is typically used for the loophole.

    Redgumwon · 17/02/2016 at 21:41

Put Cox of Collingwood at R3 he should play this year at some stage. Then put Grimley at F8 who will play and slow increase in price. This will give you two cheap option swing gate for the rucks

Stiffy · 16/02/2016 at 19:06

Stefan Martin or Nic Nat?

    Danners · 17/02/2016 at 15:29

Martin if you have the cash

Basil · 16/02/2016 at 20:02

dahlhaus, zorko, rioli or wingard F2?

    BigHaydos · 16/02/2016 at 20:12

wingard mate. Zorko will be solid and the lions will win more games this year but wingard is the pick of the bunch. Rioli is way too inconsistant and the dogs wont reproduce their fairytale2015

      FootyFanatic · 16/02/2016 at 21:48

Why won't the dogs replicate 2015? I'm not a dogs supporter but they have a lot of young talent and are only going to improve. Now add libba into the team as well as another preseason into all the youngsters and it's not all looking that bad for them. Back to the question though, I would choose libba or Zorko.

        FootyFanatic · 16/02/2016 at 21:53

Sorry I meant Dahlhaus or Zorko

        Redgumwon · 17/02/2016 at 21:39

Harder draw this year for the doggies will make it a little tougher for them.

      Kev · 17/02/2016 at 08:19

Funny you should say that bighaydos, I thought the same thing. He was mentioned in the fwds poll and I looked into him. Only 4 scores under 80 last year. High possibility he could go twang, hasn’t played a full season since ’08. He’s a nice POD though

Grahame Lebroy · 16/02/2016 at 20:04

Close but probably Nic Nat.

Grundy488k, T.Nicholls439k or Lobbe389k as a ruck 2?

    West · 16/02/2016 at 20:08

I really like Tom Nicholls. Will be number 1 ruck and is hitting breakout territory. Only downside would be how he cant string together a full season.

Lobbe would probably be the safest pick though

    DuckingTigers · 16/02/2016 at 21:18

Grundy hasn't quite established himself as Collingwood's main ruckman for the entire season. This year Grundy will be 21 and Witts will be 23 so they're both still finding their way.

    Redgumwon · 17/02/2016 at 21:37

I like Nicholls as well but he's very injury prone. I've had him in the draft league while he was fit and he did the job very well

I like it james lots of pods. Bit of tooth length in the def but proven reliable also. Cheers

    Derek · 17/02/2016 at 11:27

I think it is a good looking team. Good balance. A lot of “experience” in defence, but all valid choices.

    Dusty is a must imo.

Which option is better
1. Goldstein and jed Anderson or
2. Martin and omeara

    OldOcker · 16/02/2016 at 23:05

Option 1 looks the best of the two only for the fact that O'Meara is very unlikely to play early games.

    I N Pieman · 17/02/2016 at 14:34

O'Meara can' even move sideways ATM. Certain to come back through NEAFL. Then you get 2 games to look at him

    GoHawks · 17/02/2016 at 15:49

    Option 1

With JOM out for a few rounds, i think you may even be able to have Anderson appreciate in value (with Nths easy run early & opportunity to play), then upgrade him to JOM once JOM has played 2 games, before price jump.

Plus Goldy is a must, Nths run in the first 10 rounds is very good.

Have had Goldstein Martin & Grimley from the start. After the podcast have gone with Naitanui instead of Goldstein.
Rest of team is as follows:-

Bartel Yeo Smith Aish Dea Brown Byrne Hartley

Dangerfield Ablett Sloane Rockliff Parker Cripps Liberatore B Crouch Petracca Mathieson Menegola

Barlow Sinclair Bird Anderson Simpkin Kerridge Kommer Phillips & 12600

Comments appreciated.

Stiffy · 17/02/2016 at 07:20

Not a lot of talk around Kade Simpson? I like him better than Bartel purely because he is more influential and seems to play that rebounding defender role at Carlton? I currently have KK, Yeo, Smith in the backline but someone commented above that I need a more reliable option in defence incase they all fail. Thoughts?

Hi Guys. Only 3 spots left SC 823211

Tom · 17/02/2016 at 09:24

Thoughts on Tom Langdon? Averages 90's in the back end of last season

hedski · 17/02/2016 at 09:34

Crouch and Dahl or

Wines and Sinclair?

Leaning towards the second

Leaning to the latter.

Just read this quote from Paul Roos on Max Gawn, "That is the best training by a ruckman I have seen in 30 years of football”

Sana · 17/02/2016 at 12:00

Anyone know if Mummy will make round 1?

Tom · 17/02/2016 at 14:35

Strongly considering Zac WIlliams

averages 88 in his last 9 games of last year

Danners · 17/02/2016 at 15:25

Great podcast Jock and crew! Couldn't agree more on Lobbe, only would have averaged around 90 if the new ruck rules were around in 2014. Currently my ruck is
Mumford, Naitanui (Cox)
Didn't hear anything about Mumford in the podcast, is he worth a spot or is he too injury prone?

Danners · 17/02/2016 at 15:35

Also community a league code if interested
Community Crew #1: 867517
Was ranked in the top 50 last season and is almost full

Trigger · 17/02/2016 at 17:09

What about Mumford – not a lot said about him?

    Jack · 18/02/2016 at 11:15

Problem with Mummy is the most games he's ever played in a season is 19, and he's only hit that twice as it is!

Derek · 17/02/2016 at 17:21

I looked back on a few ideas i wrote down at the end of last season. One of my "rules" was to – Pay the price!

Meaning to get the best player in each position, no matter their price.

Goldy – in, Shaw – in, Fyfe – in, Dusty – was already in.

Team looks awesome now!

Greg · 17/02/2016 at 19:54

Def: Docherty, bartel, smith, brown, brown, Hartley, (broad, hibbered)

Thoughts are much appricated
tossing up between R2 martin, nic nat, gawn and M5 wines, cripps (although I may be a biased carlton supporter)
