Jock Reynolds Coach Kings We need your help here community

Me, Higgo and Crouch are working on a problem in here at CoachKings HQ. She’s gettin a bit heated. I said to the boys – if I know our community as well as I reckon I do …  I KNOW there are shitloads of you who can help here. We want this game to be something EVERYONE in our community can be bloody proud of and your input is critical.

Here’s our challenge folks;

Below we have a draft of some artwork. When we’ve figured this out this will be plastered all over pubs, clubs & RSLs all over this wide brown land of ours.

Think of the scenario.. Nackers walks into his local pub.. gaggin for a beer. He sees this banner. He already knows about Supercoach and the other long form fantasy platforms. We want him to have a crack at CoachKings.. he’s never heard of it before.

  • We want Nackers to get the message that a single CoachKings contest lasts the duration of only ONE MATCH. It’s different to the popular long form formats. Does he look at this banner at get the idea? Do the words “Daily Fantasy Sports” do the trick.. or do we need to be more specific here? How could we get this message across to old Nackers better
  • We’re thinking.. Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) is an established thing in the States. But does it mean much here to the average bloke? Maybe we need to make it a bit more direct.. One Match Fantasy.. One Match, Pick 9.. dunno.. any ideas folks?
  • If you haven’t gotten your head around how CoachKings works yet, have a gander at the details below the banner. How else could we get Nackers across the line to play our game without making this banner too busy with crap all over it?

CoachKings Pub Fantasy

HOW THE GAME WORKS:

  • We will have a CoachKings contest in participating venues every night of the AFL & NRL season, and also on Sunday afternoons
  • A contest lasts the length of ONE MATCH
  • Absolutely FREE entry into all contests
  • You select a team of 9 players from the pool of 44 playing the game featured at your venue on the day
  • This all happens on your own mobile device. You’ll register. You’ll join your venue’s contest when you rock up to the venue. You’ll keep track of how your team is performing. You’ll check where you’re sitting on your venue’s live CoachKings ladder all on your phone while enjoying your preferred publicans finest ale
  • In front in your venue at half time? The venue will have a prize for you. Jug of beer perhaps. Win the contest? Another magnificent prize from the venue. And here’s where it gets very arousing..
  • Win any contest at your venue and you qualify for the Venue Final to be held on Semi Final weekend. Win multiple contests (up to 5) and you’ll be able to enter multiple teams into your Venue Final
  • And if you do well enough in your Venue Final – you’ll qualify to contest the COACHKINGS CUP. $50,000 in prizemoney will be up for grabs in both AFL and NRL, and the title of Australia’s very first COACHKING

Over to you community – how could we get Nackers across the line here?

Looks good so far boys but I think you've hit the nail on the head with being more direct in advertising that it's for one match only. I think that needs to be a big selling point and made very clear. A lot of people I talk to in regards to supercoach understand that it's a season long commitment and that's what puts them off the whole idea and most would see coachkings along the same lines and thus not give it a second look unless it was spelled out pretty clearly. Anyway that's my 2 cents, hope it helps

    jockreynolds · 11/02/2016 at 14:07

Always great to hear from you Shane-o. And we're starting to think more along these lines!

      NutSack · 11/02/2016 at 22:43

I would simply put somewhere- """A fantasy game where you know the final results in 2 hrs""""…… something along those lines 😉

If knackers cant understand that time frame then likely he wouldnt even have a smart phone he'd be that stupid 🙂

      Guru Rog · 11/02/2016 at 23:04

Agree. Be more direct. DFS has no traction. I suggest something along the lines of " Play a game of Fantasy Footy while you watch the game at this pub" lots of prizes to be won

Travis · 11/02/2016 at 13:34

Appeal to his ego. Needs to be something like

“Can you out-coach Lyon and Bucks? Can you even out-coach your mates?”

    jockreynolds · 11/02/2016 at 14:08

Outcoach your mates. There's something there Travis. I'm down the pub with my mates. I can crap all over them.. yes.

RICH · 11/02/2016 at 13:43

replace daily fantasy sports with AFL & NRL

    Krups · 11/02/2016 at 13:45

Agree. If it’s only to certain sports then label it that way. Fantasy sports could mean EPL or NBA?

Kev · 11/02/2016 at 13:47

Bloody arousing this is, Jock! I like the banner you have, piques the interest. Love the idea of an in venue mag, but will it always be available to those interested?

Perhaps coasters with further info? Or a table brochure type thing?

    jockreynolds · 11/02/2016 at 14:06

Gday there Kev – yes mate – every venue will recieve a supply of the game mag. 4 seperate issues throughout the year. Higgo is working away furiously as I type. Free as a bird to patrons who register and play CoachKings

      Mike · 11/02/2016 at 16:12

An actual mag? Everyone’s got a phone. Some coasters with the link on how to play should do the trick.

Vinnie · 11/02/2016 at 13:49

Jock, I just think it needs a slogan added to really drive it home that it’s a day to day thing such as.. ‘new game, new team.. every day…’

Something simple like that.

    Kev · 11/02/2016 at 13:59

    Really like that, Vinnie!

      Vinnie · 11/02/2016 at 14:02

Thanks mate, I love all the ideas here.

Anything to help Jock and crew get this off the ground

    jockreynolds · 11/02/2016 at 14:05

Brilliant Vinnie! Brilliant. New Game. New Team. Every Day.

      Vinnie · 11/02/2016 at 15:47

My pleasure Jock. I’m a strong supporter of yours and everything you do, livens up the SC landscape, my friend.

      fatboyfat7 · 11/02/2016 at 15:53

Excellent slogan but I'd swing it the other way…

'New Day. New Game. New Team.'

Extremely minor change but think it reads better….

As I said before, I like 'GameDay Fantasy' too… good luck with it! Oh and maybe give Schneider some background mates!

        Mike · 11/02/2016 at 16:13

        Spot on.

        Vinnie · 11/02/2016 at 17:49

        On point, mate. Makes sense

ThatDamnRascal · 11/02/2016 at 13:52

A few thoughts hope they help:
Start off focusing on just one night. Say every Friday game. Everyone watches Friday night footy no matter who's playing so you may need to roll out a poster with a blank spot to insert which game the venue chooses to promote. Every venue can be different some may opt for other matches.
It's about reeling them in once people start playing they will want to make it a regular "Friday" night get together.
Focus on marque games Anzac day, Queens Birthday, Easter Monday, Grand Final Replay, Derbies etc. Additional prizes or points on those days eg picking the Anzac day medalist in your CoachKings side awards triple points to that player
Treat this first season about getting the CoachKings brand out there. Then fine tune the wonderful beast CoachKings will become.

    jockreynolds · 11/02/2016 at 14:04

"The wonderful beast CoachKings will become". The front of my trouser has been under extreme pressure lately mate.. and that comment just flipped her over into the red zone. Wonderful feedback Rascal. One thing about the prize structure in venue is that the venues themselves will be putting up their prizes (ie half time prize, winning contest prize, win the venue final prize). We'll be encouraging them to ramp up those prizes for the big games

Keenbutclueless · 11/02/2016 at 13:55

Make Daily Fantasy Sports in smaller type. As people get used to the name, it can become more prominent in future versions. The bigger type should be “One Game, One Venue, One Winner”.

    jockreynolds · 11/02/2016 at 14:01

You're a good egg Keen. Like that idea of moving towards DFS later on while people get used to the idea. Great feedback.

@Seekersupacoach · 11/02/2016 at 13:59

You might just need to place another rosette (ie like the WIN venue prizes) or a banner in the right hand corner of the poster stating something like: 'Every footy match is a NEW competition'

    jockreynolds · 11/02/2016 at 14:01

I like it Supa. I bloody like that. Every footy match is a NEW competition.

LEKD0G · 11/02/2016 at 14:03

Something like
"you coach ONE TEAM"
"you play ONE MATCH"
"you beat ONE PUB"
WIN MAJOR PRIZES

So the words the catch the eye are ONE TEAM, ONE MATCH, ONE PUB and MAJOR PRIZES.
The other lines can be more discreet.

I don't think DFS is self explanatory enough. You need to breakdown what DFS is and I think the words I've left in capitals do that or at least are on the right track.

    jockreynolds · 11/02/2016 at 14:09

I've long believed you were destined for greatness my friend. And each day that passes makes me more certain of this. Brilliant Lek.

Pete · 11/02/2016 at 14:10

This marketing stuff gets me everytime even with my own business Jock!
I think the slogan at the top of the poster and by taking away the days to fit it in. Lads know when the footy is on just need the message to be clear like

Watch Live Footy, Play a Live 4 Quarter Fantasy Game

What you think Jock?

    jockreynolds · 11/02/2016 at 14:36

That's true Pete. The lads will know when the footy's on.. Watch Live Footy – Every game is a new contest..

TRIGGER HAPPY · 11/02/2016 at 14:19

Think need to have the words Pub AFL fantasy. One game, two teams, one winner.

Are YOU your local Coachking?

Pick your team now – YOU DECIDE!

Think that may get Nackers attention.

Then you can out in stuff about prizes etc.

    jockreynolds · 11/02/2016 at 14:37

Yes. "Your local CoachKings" I like the thought of adding to the majestic prestige around that.

ThatDamnRascal · 11/02/2016 at 14:27

Plenty of people are in a venue tipping comp. Maybe a simple banner on the in venue leader board?
""Consider yourself a Tipping Master? Then you'll want to be a Coach King" as in venue for details"
Really hope this takes off for you blokes

    jockreynolds · 11/02/2016 at 14:35

    Great thinking Rasc!

    fatboyfat7 · 11/02/2016 at 15:56

Thats a great idea… If CoachKings did the tipping tmplates for the venues you could advertise all over it…

      Derek · 11/02/2016 at 17:34

that would confuse simple folk like me

      HOLLA · 11/02/2016 at 23:04

      Epic idea

Jason Marmo · 11/02/2016 at 14:38

You don’t want the poster being mixed up with games on the TAB machine, the keno, or the pokies, so……
Emphasis on FREE to play.
“In Pub” competiton
Register NOW before the game begins!!

Bar coasters “COACHKINGS – Take on your mates and also those guys over there (arrow pointing)”

    HOLLA · 11/02/2016 at 23:03

    Like

Gaveday · 11/02/2016 at 15:34

Shove in something like “game by game fantasy Comp” as many as 6 match ups in on single Saturday. 10 matches a weekend. (Hang on how many is it these days??) (Catch my drift?)

    jockreynolds · 12/02/2016 at 10:56

Gday there Gave! We'll have one contest every night of the season, then on Sunday arvos. In Melbourne the first clash will be the Richmond v Carlton game on the Thrsday night.. then the Coll v Sydney game on the Saturday night and so on.

Shane · 11/02/2016 at 15:44

Most of the important stuff has been said. I assume the 'in venue' magazine will be sitting at the bar so people can peruse through it while having a frothy? So that helps. Perhaps you can squeeze one more line in there that does mention it being a day-to-day thing rather than a yearly scenario. Also make it clear that it's AFL/NRL and I think you're good to go.

wombatsfc · 11/02/2016 at 16:12

Your chance to be King for a Day and it's FREE
The contest lasts only ONE Game but, the glory lingers forever.

Kick that around for a while fellas

    Westy · 11/02/2016 at 21:56

    Free King Awesome!

Derek · 11/02/2016 at 17:23

what about

"Be King For a Day"

Kahly · 11/02/2016 at 17:37

The KISS method usually works, especially if 'Nackers has just knocked off work, popped into the local for a few frothies, he doesn't want to be overloaded with too much info; he's thinking Pot/Schooner, Schnitty/Parmi maybe a punt and now another reason he can hang shit on his mates after he whips their arse, so i think something like "Coachkings" "One Match Fantasy" "Play Now/Today".

For those who may be a little ahead of 'Nackers' in the IQ department, obviously the message is still the same so all bases are covered!

Goodluck lads!

Derek · 11/02/2016 at 17:49

I think Adam needs to have an Attractive young female on either arm, dressed in AFL and NRL gear.

maybe a crown on his head.

    wombatsfc · 11/02/2016 at 18:03

or Maybe Jeanie Pratt with a young footy player on either arm

      HOLLA · 11/02/2016 at 23:46

      Yes!

wombatsfc · 11/02/2016 at 18:09

5 minutes to pick your team
100 minutes to win the game
A lifetime of reminding your mates that you are the King

    jockreynolds · 12/02/2016 at 10:54

    You're on absolute fire Wom

      wombatsfc · 12/02/2016 at 22:14

Thanks mate I better wee on that before the couch goes up

Westy · 11/02/2016 at 18:53

Take one game for the team.

Dale · 11/02/2016 at 19:19

Win…Here…in this pub….on any game!

Dools · 11/02/2016 at 19:29

FULFILL YOUR FANTASY …… With laughs, larikens and lager
Show em you mean business in this venue…
Open to interpretation but the entendre is intended…lol

Zane · 11/02/2016 at 22:14

Everyone is spot on play down the brand name it’s taking up to much valuable real estate the kiss simple way to go for sure really liked the way lek was thinking.

You coach one team
For one game
In one pub
Win major prizes

Get em in get em hooked the mags were you elaborate. Differently like the beer coaster idea mayby even a beer mat on the bar.

An idea is mayby some merch give aways coach kings hats stubby holders or thsirts set it up with the pub were when someone buys a beer they get a card and when they buy there 6th beer get merch.

Gets people talking and asking what’s this coach kings and bar tender can explain. People love free stuff and beer

KNACKERBAGS · 11/02/2016 at 22:36

LIGHTNING FOOTY?

    jockreynolds · 12/02/2016 at 10:54

Knackers! We're trying to get you across the line here mate! Are you in?

      KNACKERBAGS · 12/02/2016 at 19:21

      HELLS YEAH!!!!

Do Not Give Up. · 11/02/2016 at 22:51

Definitely need to put 'DOWNLOAD THE APP' on the poster with the App Logo that the punter will find in the App Store.

    HOLLA · 11/02/2016 at 23:02

    Good idea that.

HOLLA · 11/02/2016 at 23:00

Coachkings Match Day

Sounds a little soccerish but if down the track you expand to that code it could appeal to the soccer fans.

Just wondering how many people go to the pub with their mates to watch footy.

Im not able to get to the pub on….well ever. Ive a missus kids and im a chef so work most weekends. Can i sign up at a pub and play but not be present for the game?

Having said that im sure like this community you can start small and build towards something “significant”.

    jockreynolds · 12/02/2016 at 10:53

Great to hear from you Holl. Hope to sample some of your culingulary foodstuffs this season mate. Yep – you have to be present for the game in the pub, or the geo-location service thingo won't let you play. Where do you chef? Get them to lock it in!

      HOLLA · 12/02/2016 at 12:20

Would love to help on that front but the restaurant isnt an appropriate venue.

HOLLA · 11/02/2016 at 23:15

Another idea to assist participation would be to get Crouching out to the venues to threaten the zombies working the bar to push the concept to the patrons. “Welcome..you play me dis or i kick your asssss”

Welcome

    jockreynolds · 12/02/2016 at 10:53

Yes. Yes. Crouching could be the bloody muscle to keep them all fair dinkum!

HOLLA · 12/02/2016 at 00:08

Jock reynolds website subscribers receive bonus match day team salary.

Haiku Bob · 12/02/2016 at 03:37

Get the old cliche: 'One Game at a Time' in there somewhere.

Or do it in haiku:

coach for a day ~
the best coaches get it done
one game at a time

You're welcome.

    Zane · 12/02/2016 at 05:41

I like it, lol one game at a time

    jockreynolds · 12/02/2016 at 10:51

    Haa. Gold

Zane · 12/02/2016 at 06:34

There can be only one

TAKE IT

One game at a time

    jockreynolds · 12/02/2016 at 10:50

Love your work Zane. "There can only be one COACHKING"

Mike C · 12/02/2016 at 08:33

Hi Jock, love your work here….

Look mate, I’m a bit biased as I work in marketing all day, so we are usually trying to figure out how to get the average punter to hand over moolah

My 2-cents-worth is the old marketing rule of “sell them the end benefit, not the features”….

So Knackers walks in, he’s hit with a message of “win free beer and on the road to $50k, while watching today’s footy game”…I reckon that will get him reading on “how” he can go about getting said free beer and on the road to 50k; sometimes I think us marketers are The Devil, but if we can help out our fave S’coach guru, then perhaps not so bad after all

M

    jockreynolds · 12/02/2016 at 10:49

Mike! You're a bloody ripper mate. At times I like to talk about paradimes. Sometimes when a paradime changes.. the whole game can change. Discussing what you're slapping down here right now with the lads at HQ

mitch · 12/02/2016 at 09:34

I'm with Mike ^^

All us supercoach enthusiasts will already be all over it. To get the average bloke down at the royal hotel to play this, he's gotta know he can win some beer in the short term and possibly some cash in the long term.

The Shadow · 12/02/2016 at 23:03

"CoachKings…The Game within a game"

Steveo · 13/02/2016 at 16:09

One game.
One opportunity to beat your mates.
Won winner takes all.

Dee · 21/02/2016 at 08:49

I think that what everyone is saying is correct and I think you know it too. Just keep it simple and use your own words. Instead of plastering 'daily sports fantasy' throw your brand up there with a big 'COACHKINGS' and a small sub heading 'a single CoachKings contest lasts the duration of only ONE MATCH'.
