CoachKings Defenders 2016

Season 2016 is drawing near community!

Defence. The foundation of every successful team. And it’s no different with fantasy sport folks. A solid reliable defence will set your season up. Or it will break you. It’s that simple.

And this season the defence is shaping as the most challenging line. Get this right and I am here to tell you that you will be well on the way to a majestic season.

Some important notes;

  • Time to get set up with all your CoachKings communications channels folks. Here they are;
  • We are on the hunt for Business Development Executive in NSW to get CoachKings into the pubs and clubs up there. Would love to hear from you if you’re interested on the social medias.

Let’s get the conversation started.. how is your defence shaping up?

    Thompson, Wellingham will be stains all season

Titan · 01/02/2016 at 10:12

Grest work fellas

Poor higgo, but you need a push bud

My backline has me pondering a bit

I have

Kk docherty yeo smith Hartly brown and both collins’ on the pine atm

Not sure if i should go a rance or Mcdonald but that means taking out a mid price midfielder either crouch or omeara

    @wheels_1987 · 02/02/2016 at 12:54

    Crouch still isnt 100% to play AFl rd.1 may get a week or two in the ressies.

    I would go Rance over Crouch

      swaami · 03/02/2016 at 07:43

      Rance lol..I’m a tiger man but plzzzz

gator59 · 01/02/2016 at 10:55

    not bad mate

    B.Reid i would paint the fence with but otherwise ok at this stage

OldOcker · 01/02/2016 at 11:01

COACHKINGS is the in venue name. COACHMAN should be the ONLINE game in my opinion._When you say you are looking for a genius up north. WHERE is up north? Northern Victoria or Darwin?__Cheers.

    OldOcker · 01/02/2016 at 11:20

    COACHKINGS in venue and "COACHKINGS – ONLINE" to keep the COACHKINGS name entrenched in the brain.

      Joe · 01/02/2016 at 17:46

      Hey Ocker! Any chance you'd be enlightening us with another of your precious stat spreadsheets this year?

        OldOcker · 01/02/2016 at 18:07

        YES bigger and better. IT IS IN JOCKS EMAIL BOX NOW. Just waiting for approval.

        Cheers and thanks for asking

          JoeWoolcock · 01/02/2016 at 23:07

          You're a downright legend, my friend

      @Inside50mFooty · 16/02/2016 at 12:57

      I agree with Ocker, you are selling your Franchise.

Loz · 01/02/2016 at 11:07

Couchkings Jock…..lock it in

    Sarah · 01/02/2016 at 13:08

    Love it Loz!!! Perfect!

    …Knew I'd read a post which had already said it!

      jockreynolds · 01/02/2016 at 19:30

      CouchKings. I bloody love it Sarah and Loz! It's on my micro soft spreadsheet as an option

    Patch · 02/02/2016 at 18:43

    Make that three votes for CouchKings

Derek · 01/02/2016 at 11:10

last year i went with a strong Defence (KK at D5) and it worked really well, with all the injuries happening and trades being used up, it was comforting to have a strong reliable defence. There is usually little in the way of reliable rookies.

This year i'll be doing somthing similar, strong defence.

Shaw, McVeigh, KK, Bartel, BSmith (Hibberd, MBrown, Rice)

Smith may become Yarran.

    OldOcker · 01/02/2016 at 11:25

    Looks very solid Derek, Thinking of something very similar myself.
    I like it. defence is always a problem for me. You seem to be pretty much set and forget.

    @wheels_1987 · 02/02/2016 at 12:56

    avoid yarran

    im a tiger boy and i am not convinced

Phil · 01/02/2016 at 11:29

Anyone else scared off by Smiths early fixture? I reckon you can pick him up around the byes for the same price. Boyd, KK, Bartel, Yeo, Brown (Ess), Hartley, (Byrne, Collins)

    @wheels_1987 · 02/02/2016 at 12:56

    had boyd originally, bit long in the tooth for me now though, may get rested

Stirlsy · 01/02/2016 at 11:52

CoachKings online name—– The Daily Coach Challenge ——

    jockreynolds · 01/02/2016 at 19:31

    Not bad Stirlso.. I like the words Daily And Coach in there.

    TRIGGER HAPPY · 02/02/2016 at 14:51

    Daily couch challenge?

Adam · 01/02/2016 at 12:30

Mcveigh. Kk. Bartel. Smith.

Brown. Bonner. Byrne. Wagner

Thaughts guys ? Also thinking of maybe Malceski insted of smith pending

    Derek · 01/02/2016 at 12:58

    i like Smith alot more than Malceski, if you are looking at saving a few bucks, i wouldn't bother with the $30k you save.

    have a close look at Seedsman. he is significantly cheaper than Smith and if named round 1 i'll be including in my team.

    SCaddict · 01/02/2016 at 19:08

    Macca is coming off fairly major knee surgery and although he's just started running now and should hopefully be ready for Rd1 I'd be hesitant to shell out nearly $550K for a player that's had a significantly interrupted preseason.

    Might be prudent risk management to bring him in as a midseason upgrade target instead??

      Adam · 01/02/2016 at 20:26

      What about yeo

        SCaddict · 01/02/2016 at 20:55

        Rate that selection highly and is in my present team.

        Although I don't really have any lock-in defenders right now so my defence with probably change the most between now and March 24.

          Adam · 01/02/2016 at 22:29

          Haha as will mine,
          Currently im lookn at
          Mcveigh bartel kolo smith
          Ablett gray rocky jom crouch
          Nic nat lobbe
          Zorko barlow bird wingatd wells
          thaughts ? ive left out rookies

    @wheels_1987 · 02/02/2016 at 12:58

    Malceski to Smith only if your going to do something productive with that extra cash. I am going to watch malceski like a hawk this NAb challenge

Sarah · 01/02/2016 at 12:58

Hi Jock,

I'm with Stirlsy, I like Couchkings!!

Are you going to develop an app?

    Sarah · 01/02/2016 at 13:00

    Must've misread Stirlsy's post actually (note to self, get more sleep tonight!)… but what about 'CouchKings'!!!

    jockreynolds · 01/02/2016 at 19:32

    Gday Sarah – we'll launch with what the tec lads call a 'responsive mobile web application' – so it just runs off your interweb browser. Next stage is an 'App' on the apples and the googles shop

    @wheels_1987 · 02/02/2016 at 12:58

    Couchkings FTW
    Great name

@BarronVonCrow · 01/02/2016 at 13:01

I'm still on board with Jimmy Aish fellas. I think he'll be a very nice complimentary piece for Treloar, I think he'll be a lot more at ease at the Pies now. And at that price in Coach Kings, he's a terrific piece to add to a side where you load up on more expensive players.

As for Brodie Smith, Pyke has said he wants to play him back in the half back role since he was an AA t here, so I imagine that'd mean Seedsman goes to the wing. I actually think Rory Laird will be the one who gets a bit more midfield time, rather than Smith, which could certainly up his potential as a DEF pick. Hampton is going to be a bit of a fill in I think, rotate down half back and through the midfield. Will have to watch that in the NAB

My current DEF line is the following

Kade Kolodashnij
Elliot Yeo
Brodie Smith
James Aish
Curtly Hampton
Matthew Dea
Michael Hartley
Kieran Collins

I'm pretty sold on picks 1-4, everything after that is up for grabs at the moment.

    Sarah · 01/02/2016 at 13:13

    Hey Barron, nice defence! Pretty similar to mine. I'm very keen to watch Hampton in the NAB. Was keen on him a couple of years ago, and now he's available at a very nice price! But I'm just not sure yet about how Seedsman and Hampton will fit into the crows side, and later in the year, the returning Jaensch will need to find a place too.
    I'm a bit back and forth with Smith at the moment. I know he suffered concussions last year, but he was still very unreliable with his scoring and he was still playing his AA half back role. How do you see him getting back to his 90+ scoring with Seedsman and Hampton in the side?

      @BarronVonCrow · 01/02/2016 at 13:23

      I've always been a big Hampton fan, so I was super rapt that we got him. It does make it interesting though with him, Seedsman and Smith potentially being in the side though,

      I still think Smith is going to be a huge part of the back half, he may not rotate forward as much if Seedsman is there, who posses a quality kick, but that won't stop Smith being a huge part of getting it out of the back half. Laird, as good as he is, doesn't have the penetration on his kick that Smith does. Talia, Brown and Hartigan are all probably locked into the backhalf still, and none of the 3 are that great offensively, so they'll still continue to work it around to get the ball into Smith's hands to launch the attack from the back half.

      The reason I think Laird goes into the middle more than Smith is since we've lost Danger and Thommo is on his last legs they'll probably need another guy like Laird who can work in the middle and get contested ball. He can also hold his man defensively accountable there too, which will be an important thing since the team has often leaked like a sieve through there.

      And yes, will be very interesting to see the team once Jaensch comes back. I'm not sure if there will be any lingering punishments from his drink driving incident that will leave him sitting in the SANFL side however,

        Sarah · 01/02/2016 at 13:37

        I was stoked with how the crows traded. Made the best of losing Danger. But now the question is, how will fitting them all into the side change the spread of points?! I like your analysis above. Smith's kick is elite… when he hits the target!! Was very frustrating at times last year. If he cleans up his efficiency, then he's worth a fitting in to my defence. But at this stage I've gone with Hampton and Dea instead of Smith and a rookie.

          @BarronVonCrow · 02/02/2016 at 12:32

          Was quite pleased with how it all ended up too. Obviously would have prefered Danger to stay, but I think at the very least them made some drinkable lemonade out of the lemons they were given.

          I think the concussions had a big effect on Smith, especially that second against the Saints. Took him another couple of months after that before he started looking like his old self again. I thought he started to really pick up again towards the end of the year. Fingers crossed he's back to his 2014 best!

    Mike · 01/02/2016 at 16:55

    Obviously it’s still early days but that looks a recipe for disaster to me.
    With KK how is he going to go points wise when GAB, Omera and Swallow (?) are back?
    And Yeo, will having Jetta in the side impact his scoring and even place in the team? I can see Jetta being a pretty handy rebounding half back.
    Aish is hardly a walk up start in the team. I mean after the NAB we’ll know more but for now it’s a big ? on him.

    Mind you Malceski is in my team atm so who am I to criticize a speculative pick.

      @BarronVonCrow · 02/02/2016 at 12:02

      It potentially could be, Mike!

      I'm not too worried about the return of the holy trinity for Thumper. I reckon they'll play different roles and he'll still get his across half back.

      Yeo is iffy. Super talented, but the addition of Jetta and definitely Redden could impact him. I like that he has a nice spread of uncontested and contested possession though. He's about 50/50 and he's good at intercept marking too. He's one that will hinge on getting midfield minutes again.

      Aish is always a ?, but who isn't at that price!

    SCaddict · 01/02/2016 at 19:15

    It will be fascinating to see how Curtly both performs and is used at his new club. A player with heaps of potential and unrealised talent. One to closely watch during the NAB for sure, especially at his sub $300K asking price.

    Ditto for Aish.

      @BarronVonCrow · 02/02/2016 at 12:05

      I think an underrated thing for Hampton may just be his comfort factor away from footy in Adelaide. He's already said that having Eddie Betts in the team has been a big thing for him, because at GWS he was expected to be a leader to the other indigenous players because he was the oldest. even though it's something he wasn't super comfortable with. Now he doesn't have that pressure and has someone above him helping him out. And then with his parents and how he's seen them more times in 3 months at Adelaide than he did in his 5 years at Sydney, as well as having his brother playing footy down here too.

      Of course at the end of the day he needs to be performing out on the field, but hopefully all those things away from footy help him.

    Gaveday · 01/02/2016 at 21:55

    You should tell the faithful that Aish is a crow eater, are you showing a bit of state side pride?

    I’m a big fan of Aish, I should say, excellent kick. Hits targets. The roo loves him too.

    Nuff said. SuperCoach relevent? Not sure yet.

      @BarronVonCrow · 02/02/2016 at 12:09

      It may be, Gaveday, but you gotta go with what you know!

      I watched Aish as a skinny boy hand grown men their asses in a Premiership winning side. He has talent coming out the wazoo, it's just a matter of him putting it all together, which we'll have to wait and see on. He obviously has his detractors because he's an outside player, but Craig Bradley never won a hard ball in his life and he was a bloody superstar!

      At the price he's at, there's no sure bet. But he has the dreaded "P" word attached to him, which others in his price range don't. I liked that Bucks said he'd be rotating him through the middle, but he'll be watched in the NAB cup for sure.

    @wheels_1987 · 02/02/2016 at 12:59

    Hampton for me is a mid price black hole.
    AISH will be great for Coach Kings. Have a beer and bascially a gamble, but not for mine in the long form

@BarronVonCrow · 01/02/2016 at 13:11

Also, RE the Essendon rookies, once thing to consider with both Brown and Hartley is they are both big 195cm+ defenders. All of the "top ups" for the Bombers have been middle height type players, so I'd be fairly confident that both will get a gig for the entire year.

And I will agree with Jock that Riley Boner is a bit under the radar. I'm not sure he'll be there for Round 1, but I think he'll get a gig at some point in the year.

    Phil · 01/02/2016 at 13:55

    Agree Baron I think You can lock 22 games in for Brown and Hartley barring injury. Out of the 12 players suspended 3 are key defenders (Hooker, Hurley, Pears) and that's on top of Carlisle traded and Flecther retiring.

      TRIGGER HAPPY · 02/02/2016 at 15:03

      Yeah reckon I could find a spot on the fwd and Def bench for both.

    TRIGGER HAPPY · 02/02/2016 at 15:02

    Kid has a lazer of a foot the port boys may just have to find room for him. Streaming out of the back line hits gray lace out onto wingard who splits the middle. Set tape to rewind, repeat. If repeat could see all 3 forming part of my team.

Bc · 01/02/2016 at 14:04

KK, S. Docherty, J bartel, B smith, M dea, R bonner, M brown, M hibberd.

Thoughts jock? I don’t think shaw will repeat last year and only see McVeigh and Boyd decline, this year is the year to look for them defender who will leap into premiums. Who are you’re thoughts for them defender to do so?

    jockreynolds · 01/02/2016 at 19:33

    Patch has a write up on Docherty set to drop on the website – make sure you have a read. He's an interesting selection. Wish we had have covered the lad in the podcast. Like your other selections mate

Bg G · 01/02/2016 at 14:12

Will Rory Laird continue his 2015 form?

    OldOcker · 01/02/2016 at 16:46

    Could possibly improve this year but not at his price for me, I think there are better options at this stage.

    TRIGGER HAPPY · 02/02/2016 at 15:04

Mike · 01/02/2016 at 14:34

Why is everyone jumping on McV this year? Guy only started running in January after a knee op. It hardly screams of a premo jumping out of the gates.

    BKW · 01/02/2016 at 18:29

    Yep bettertrade in target around the byes you would think

    jockreynolds · 01/02/2016 at 19:33

    Agree mate. I'll be steering clear

    Fast Hands · 01/02/2016 at 22:33

    Yep walking out of the gates. Will see how mcv goes before committing to that amount of cash. Tooth longy.

Mike · 01/02/2016 at 15:03

At Home game should be called ‘In Home Fantasy Call Out Featuring Jock Reynolds’.

Mac · 01/02/2016 at 16:31

Daniel Rich for anyone?

    West · 01/02/2016 at 16:56

    Said that he was training in the mids and was desperate to improve in a recent interview. If it looks like he'll play midfield I'm locking him in

      Bg G · 01/02/2016 at 17:05

      After last year and that game against Carlton – never again

    Joe · 01/02/2016 at 17:57

    I'll be considering him, but NAB form a must

      Phil · 01/02/2016 at 19:39

      He will smash it in the NAB, always does

    @wheels_1987 · 02/02/2016 at 13:00

    Like Malceski will watch in the NAB challenge

Timmy · 01/02/2016 at 16:36

Is Shaw, McVeigh, Bartel must haves to start with?

    OldOcker · 01/02/2016 at 16:43

    Not in my opinion, I am starting without at least 2 of them in my early team selection.

    SCaddict · 01/02/2016 at 19:31

    Like Ocker said I wouldn't consider any of those fellas absolute must haves in terms of starting selections. That said plenty of coaches will start with at least one of them.

    For me that's probably Bartel but that's far from any semblance of a lock right now.

      Liam · 01/02/2016 at 20:28

      So no Shaw of McViegh ?

        SCaddict · 01/02/2016 at 21:05

        Wouldn't say a definitive "no" at this early stage of proceedings although I doubt I will start with either.

        Macca has had a significant delay to his regular preseason preparations as he rehabilatates from knee surgery.

        Heater I just can't stomach the price tag for a defender and will probably take my chances picking him up a bit cheaper on one of my first upgrades.

        However if he goes off for back to back 150s in the NAB I may be forced to begrudgingly reconsider ha ha.

        TRIGGER HAPPY · 01/02/2016 at 22:47

        Rather spend the money on beams/jpk rather than shaw and find some value in def and mcv at his price with no pre season is a no go.

          Dave · 01/02/2016 at 23:16

    @wheels_1987 · 02/02/2016 at 13:01

    i have SHAW and BARTEL at this stage. Im looking for ANY reason to remove Bartel (as i feel his teeth are a bit long) but nothing is standing out

      TRIGGER HAPPY · 02/02/2016 at 15:08

      Yeah tooing and froing on bartel. Has potential but at the moment has not made the cut.

Rob · 01/02/2016 at 17:03

Defence is

Shaw, Docherty, KK, Suckling, Dea, Bryne ( Bonner, Rice)

Should i Have another Premium in their?

    Dave · 01/02/2016 at 23:14

    no, spend the $ in the mids on premos and mid pricers. I reckon Pendles, Ablett, Rocky, Parker, libba, JOM, crouch, polec with 3 rooks. Fyfe an upgrade target. Skimping in d and f to do this cos there is value there.

      TRIGGER HAPPY · 02/02/2016 at 15:09

      4 middies interesting

@t_woof · 01/02/2016 at 17:21

'Fit Bit on Fat Man' ~ absolute gold from Crouching.

THE ROOK · 01/02/2016 at 17:30

Hey JR community first time giving SC a crack and very excited!!

DEF: Shaw, McVeigh, B. Smith, Malceski, M. Brown, Byrne (Brown, Collins)
MID: GAJ, Pendlebury, Priddis, Goddard, Libba, Hopper, Freeman (Mathieson, Menegola, Hibberd)
RUCK: Martin, Lobbe
FWD: Martin, Dalhaus, Barlow, Leuenberger, Kerridge, Petracca (Keough, long)

Remaining salary: $36,200

Rookies are obviously subject to change and I will be keeping a close eye on Malceski's form during the NAB challenge.
Any help is greatly appreciated, cheers!

    SCaddict · 01/02/2016 at 19:44

    All legit selections ROOK. I really like the Martin Lobbe ruck tandem with Leuey in the forward line as cover and may actually start with that exact trio myself.

    Both O'Meara and Crouch should prove to be very popular selections so you should keep those guys on your preseason radar and if you like what you see maybe cut back on your defence spend to incorporate one or both at M7/M8.

      Derek · 02/02/2016 at 09:22

      I’ve had a complete rethink of my team and think non keeper mid-priced so are too much of a risk. Not guaranteed to score any better than the good rookies, price increase low and in some cases fall.

      Libba and Lobbe are the only two I’m considering as I think both are potential premiums.

      Mike · 02/02/2016 at 17:54

      That was my ruck set up until I just saw they picked up Jamar. Complete redo is in order if he plays?
      I guess Leuy still goes up in value, just more slowly. I was hoping they’d pick up another ruck with a lot more chance of not making the match day team.

justinv · 01/02/2016 at 19:23

Kade Simpson anyone??

    jockreynolds · 01/02/2016 at 19:34

    Bit of tooth length.. but would be an interesting POS justin

    SCaddict · 01/02/2016 at 20:34

    I agree with Jock that Kade would be a piece of sh1te selection. 🙂

    Dave · 01/02/2016 at 23:01

    Older and regressing as opposed to KK, young and progressing. Kade and his coin is a 2009 pick, not 2016.

Steve · 01/02/2016 at 20:09

Why is no one even considering Eric MacKenzie?

Guaranteed to play 23 games and will average 70-80. @ ~$230k will be a serious cash cow

Am I missing something?

    Liam · 01/02/2016 at 20:30

    what about Dean Terlich at 200k ??

      SCaddict · 01/02/2016 at 21:30

      He had an awesome 2014 but seems to be on the outs with Roosy these days. Shoulder surgery last preseason didn't help his cause but even when he got over that he remained firmly entrenched in the twos.

      If he does somehow play Rd1 he'd be in heaps of teams at his price but that looks rather doubtful right at this minute.

    Titan · 01/02/2016 at 20:37

    Ive been all over him till a day or two ago
    Just needed the money to upgrade elsewhere for the moment

    SCaddict · 01/02/2016 at 20:49

    No I reckon he's a valid option especially if other alternatives like Aish don't pan out.

    As a tall lock down defender he is unlikely to set the Supercoach world on fire however JS is assured and he should appreciate at least $100K if he doesn't snap up his ACL again.

    I'm guessing there will probably be more appealing and potentially lucrative cash cow defenders that present in the NAB… at least I hope so.

      Steve · 01/02/2016 at 22:29

      Only 100k?

      If he averages 70-80 (Which he has done in the past, and the reduced rotations will only favor him) he will surely make a bit more than that, wont he?

        SCaddict · 02/02/2016 at 01:26

        I think you can confidently bank at least $100K. You may be able to squeak out $150K in a best case scenario but I wouldn't set your expectations any higher than that as you may end up disappointed.

        Tall negating defenders aren't favoured by the Supercoach scoring system and Mackenzie has missed a year of footy so he may take a while to find some match fitness too. That's why we often look for the smaller rebounding defenders to fill our defence or those who get a slice of midfield action.

        Supercoach prices also decline across the board as the season unfolds as the ultra cheap rookies suck up some of the total salary payments fixed pie which also impacts on profits we can reap from midpricers.

    TRIGGER HAPPY · 01/02/2016 at 22:39

    On the watch list over nab cup

Brycey · 01/02/2016 at 20:54

Surprised not much talk about Michael Johnson. As reliable points wise as they get, only issue is possibly his senior citizen body. Sexy price though

    SCaddict · 02/02/2016 at 01:43

    Yes he is worthy of consideration and very likely underpriced.

    I guess the main issue (other than potential declining performance with age) is what are the realistic chances of him finishing a top 10 defender in 2016?

    You really don't want to have to burn a trade to upgrade him to someone better as you are unlikely to make much of a profit in the transaction.

      Derek · 02/02/2016 at 09:11

      Sounds like he is carrying an injury, light training. There is always Zac Dawson 😉

        SCaddict · 02/02/2016 at 18:55

        From what I gathered it seemed a fairly minor setback and is now back training with the main Freo group.

        But for similar coinage I'd still pick Yeo myself as I reckon the upside is higher in terms of RFIs.

          Brycey · 02/02/2016 at 20:45

          yeo is an absolute lock in my opinion. always been of the opinion not to spend big in the backline so looking for some decent mid to high pricers that will knock out consistant scores and i believe johnson could be that guy

      Brycey · 02/02/2016 at 20:41

      Doesn’t need to be a top 10 defender as long as he gets you 85 90 average you take that as a defender. He is underpriced and unique. If u pick him from round one I believe you should pick him intending him to be in your team at the end of the year. In the process of writing this I have talked myself out of picking him haha

    TRIGGER HAPPY · 01/02/2016 at 22:42

    Everyone has their own structure/ideas of what makes up the best team that is why we play the game but Aish for me at d3 is a bit light on. Relying on 3 rooks and aish to score in def is too big of gamble imo.

wombatsfc · 01/02/2016 at 22:26

Mate I'm at the 6 minute mark of the poddy and I hear you say that you were buying snail pellets! wtf mate Blue tongues eat those snail fellas like they were chocolate and when you poison the snails you poison the blueys.
3 cheap ways to keep the snails off your tomatoes.
1. Make your vege patch Blue Tongue safe and friendly
2. Snails love beer more than you. Put a small amount of beer in a pot plant saucer, cut some snail sized holes in the top edges of a pot turn it upside down and place it on the saucer. The snails get smashed and crawl into the pot to sleep it off so the next morning you collect the hung over snails and put them in your local politicians garden.
3. Plant some of that crinkly lettuce around your tomatoes. Downside is people might think that your the sort of bloke that eats crinkly lettuce.

    Dools · 02/02/2016 at 08:51

    Fridge is agast at beer sacrifice! Trying to explain to him the value of blue tongue lizards was hard, until i mentioned the beer brand , Now he is all for it. Blue tongues belong in the bush …. Never in the fridge

ThatDamnRascal · 01/02/2016 at 23:33

Really think there is some value in picking up Brown, Hartly, Francis and Dea in defense.
1. Frees up plenty of cash.
2. Obviously depending on NAB games will all get game time and make some decent coin.
3. Was only a few years ago when 3/4/5 Port players were being selected in starting teams.

    SCaddict · 02/02/2016 at 01:51

    All eyes will be on the Don's fresh meat during the NAB that's for certain.

    No doubt hidden gems will be unearthed. The only problem will be be sifting out the fool's gold from the real thing.

      Phil · 02/02/2016 at 11:46

      Hidden gems= Bird, Simpkin, Brown, Hartley
      Fools gold= Dea, Kelly, Stokes

Any thoughts on Frawley since roughy gone done? Could be thrown forward

    TJM · 02/02/2016 at 07:11

    Not a chance, he has never been a real good scorer, and he won't go forward, look at the Hawks defence. They just lost Lake now Frawley has to take the number 1 forward.

    Derek · 02/02/2016 at 09:06

    Shoenmaker is the obvious replacement for Roughie

    @BarronVonCrow · 02/02/2016 at 12:29

    I'd imagine it just means Schoenmakers stays forward with Gunston and someone like Ceglar gets a regular gig as the rotating ruck/fwd

    OldOcker · 02/02/2016 at 07:55

    Yes in my opinion but he is not in my team at the moment but a very likely candidate.

      Derek · 02/02/2016 at 09:04

      What about Rioli?

        Swans2012 · 03/02/2016 at 00:49

        Rubber bands can only be tied up so many times Derek, for me he just screams 16 games for season which = pain

Beno · 02/02/2016 at 08:38

Thoughts of my Backline: Rance, McDonald, Laird , Yeo, M.Brown (ESS), Hibberd (S.Collins, Wagner)

    Derek · 02/02/2016 at 09:03

    You are paying high price for Rance & McDonald’s great 2015. The hardest thing is to identify the breakout players this year. Docherty, Thumper?

Derek · 02/02/2016 at 08:59

Docherty & KK or McVeigh & BSmith?

    Swans2012 · 02/02/2016 at 11:57

    McVeigh and smith, pending McVeigh looking ok in nab

      @wheels_1987 · 02/02/2016 at 13:08

      Past Supercoach Average Scores

      Year Games Average
      2013 13 52.8
      2014 16 76.8
      2015 19 87.7

        Sarah · 02/02/2016 at 14:01

        Upward trend there Wheels! Looks good to me!

          @wheels_1987 · 02/02/2016 at 14:10

          I agree there is an upward trend, but i like to bring players in who have 2 seasons of solid output. It gets risky relying on players who are not proven and if your picking up Doc then you are locking him in as a keeper. Its just a big risk vs reward for me

            Derek · 02/02/2016 at 16:13

            thanks guys. team looks ok with KK and BSmith, probably keep that.

    Pete · 02/02/2016 at 13:37

    Doch & KK. Smith was up and down last year, well mostly shithouse and with the new added players and laird to be put more in the midfield. McVeigh will be the worst pick for everybody this year. every man and his dog have him and he wont perform. Too old and his pre season has barely been there. Only started his pre season mid Jan.

      Ethan · 03/02/2016 at 18:35

      Smith's year was ruined by his concussions

Phat Man · 02/02/2016 at 10:35

Thoughts on my team

Def: H.Shaw, E.Yeo, B.Smith, J.Aish, M.Dea, M.Brown (Ess) (B.Rice, K.Collins)
Mid: P.Dangerfield, S.Pendlebury, Gablett, Rocky, B.Gibbs, Libba, D.Parish, J.Trengrove (J.Jansen, C.Petracca, N.Freeman)
Ruck: Goldy, M.Lobbe (D.Wyatt)
Fwd: D.Martin, L.Dahlhaus, D.Zorko, J.Simpkin, C.Curnow, E.Hipwood (S.Kerridge, N.Kommer)

Obviously the team will change before round one, but just looking at everyones thoughts on premos and structure, Ive got 60k left in the kitty. Cheers

    @BarronVonCrow · 02/02/2016 at 12:24

    Like the POD pick in Gibbs. Would fully expect him to have a better season.

      Phat Man · 02/02/2016 at 15:32

      Cheers, Yeah I wouldn't expect to have a worst year than last season, the option option I have is B.Crouch as well

    Bg G · 02/02/2016 at 12:59

    Trengrove is not expected back to mid-year

THE SALTSHAKER · 02/02/2016 at 12:10

Although Shaw will no doubt be top 6 defender this year, and personally one of the best rebound def the game has seen. I rate him higher than Scarlett (overated) as part of a very strong Geelong def group or at least Shaw (underated in these baroom discussion) Anyway i really think his starting price is overs. Ive had Shaw every year but was a rollercoaster at times. I think he will be a great first upgrade target, around 95-100 ppg saving you some coin. Last year was a spike, he hasnt avg over 100 previously.

    Swans2012 · 02/02/2016 at 12:53

    Agree 100%, thinking goldy might be the same but to a lesser extent…(I see him averaging 110ish but I’m normally wrong about these things!)

      Derek · 02/02/2016 at 16:15

      good point Salt. Ive taken Shaw out of my team, he can be an upgrade target once his price drops.

    Bg G · 02/02/2016 at 12:57

    Agree totally that his price is slightly overs, but he is the best set and forget defender option and considering the amount of injuries that occurred early last year that is gold.

    SCaddict · 02/02/2016 at 21:01

    I'm of the same mindset SALTS.

    Heater had virtually the perfect season last year and I think many coaches are naturally assuming he will replicate the same exact elite output or even exceed it.

    However Shaw owners of seasons past know too well that he usually has some sort of misfortune befall him either accidental or self inflicted whether it be on or off the field.

    So it wouldn't surprise me if there are some bumps along the road this year and I'll be one coach hoping to pick him up closer to the $500K mark as one of my first upgrades.

@wheels_1987 · 02/02/2016 at 13:06

My DEF line

Shaw, KK, Bartel, M.Brown, M.Hartley, R.Bonner, M.Hibberd, K.Collins

Will be watching Rich and Malceski like a hawk. Looking to replace Bartel to free up cash

Will also monitor M.Dea, however if i can start someone at $117k i will go with that

    Swans2012 · 03/02/2016 at 00:46

    I think rich is interesting, has definite 90+ average potential which would be picking this year

Pete · 02/02/2016 at 13:30

Smoothermovers Defence so far!

R.Laird, S.Docherty, K.Kolodjashni, M.Dea, M.Brown (ess), R.Bonner, S.Collins, M.Adams

Going wide in my mids this year! What we think community?

    Swans2012 · 02/02/2016 at 23:59

    I think not enough people are considering laird, I like, I’ll be replacing McVeigh with him IF he can’t make the nab/doesn’t look right….

    Geez Pete have you ever heard of gamblers anonymous?
    Apart from KK the rest would be 10-1 plus for finishing as top 20 defenders. It doesn't mean that you're not thinking if your starting team is similar to everybody elses, when and who you trade is the genius component.

      Swans2012 · 03/02/2016 at 00:45

      Laird, written up in the hs as getting more midfield time (I think!cant remember when!). Would only help after breakout 2015 wouldn’t it?

TJM · 02/02/2016 at 15:56

Does Essendon signing Jamar have any impact on Luey?

    FootyFanatic · 02/02/2016 at 16:21

    Yes, less ruck time for luey

    SCaddict · 02/02/2016 at 19:59

    Depends how he is used. Could simply be an understudy or insurance policy in case Leuey breaks down. Jamar is obviously well past his prime getting delisted last October by the lowly Dees at age 32.

    Would expect the Dons to start Leuey in the ruck with McKernan up foward pinch hitting to give Leuey the occasional chop out but could be wrong.

      Phil · 02/02/2016 at 20:30

      Spot on Scaddict they won't play Leuy, Jamar, McKernan & Daniher in the same team. Jamar is purely there as insurance, like most of the top ups

      Swans2012 · 03/02/2016 at 00:01

      Agree to allow above, only plays if luey injured

    Patch · 02/02/2016 at 21:39

    He's insurance for when Luey breaks down. I can't see him breaking into the 22 unless injury or ill form strikes. Even if one goes down, Daniher can play second fiddle no worries.

    wombatsfc · 03/02/2016 at 00:19

    I think so. Pea heart V Lion heart who would you play in the ruck?
    Off subject but, Bloody hell the bombers have done well out of that drug cheat fiasco, their list is better now than it was before they were penalised!

3 premos in for

    The spare cash lets me upgrade mid-pricers to premiums on other lines.

Derek · 03/02/2016 at 09:45

I think this Coach King game might be pretty good.

I sounds like T20 cricket. I love my test cricket but have come around to the T20 version and think it is good exciting fun.

And like the Australian team is finding out, there is a whole different way of playing the game from the traditional format.

Supercoaches will need to throw away the traditional thinking to play Coach Kings. Like T20 cricket, by the next game you have forgotten about the last one and ready to do it again.

As for a name for the online version, a few options;

“Internet based website Coach Kings”

“Coach Kings Online 9”

“Coach Kings Express”

“Coach Kings Live”
