Round 19 Supercoach Scouting Report

Howdy folks I’m Barron Von Crow and welcome to our Round 19 Supercoach Scouting Report! It’s Round 19, which means it’s the very first week of Supercoach Finals, a very important time of year.

Even if you’re out of the running for the overall prize you can still rub your mates faces in it when you potentially take out the league crown. Last week was a mixed bag for us in Supercoach, with some great scores being produced by the likes of Selwood, Goldstein and Heath Shaw, but also more injuries with both Dayne Beams and Ollie Wines looking like they will be done for the rest of the year with shoulder injuries as well as Fyfe still potentially being out and Lance Franklin looking 50/50 at best with his back complaints.

But whenever a Supercoach door closes, a Supercoach window is left ajar, with just enough room for me to fit through if I manage to really suck my gut in. So that means if you’re like me and you have a few of these injured blokes sitting in your team, you’re gonna trade your way through this mess and we’ll come out the other side better Supercoach players for it. And if you don’t have any of them and are sitting pretty with your Supercoach team, then all the better!

But that’s enough chit chat for now, let’s get going and see what Round 19 has in store for us!

Also, remember to look out for the red and green Supercoach scores, RED = bad, GREEN = good which may help you out when it comes to picking your captains for the week.

captainCaptain Pick(s): The Tigers and the Crows were polar opposites last week, with the Tigers being terrific in a win against the Hawks and Adelaide being completely awful in a loss to the Swans. Deledio was awesome for the Tigers last week, kicking 4 goals and the Tigers first 3 for the game on his way to 134 Supercoach Points. Patrick Dangerfield has his first really poor game for the year, only scoring 73 Supercoach Points, but one would hope that it was just a reflection on the Crows as an entire group, with no single Crow player recording more than 97 Supercoach Points for the game, rather than the start of some poor form from him. Either way, this could be the best game to pick a VC candidate from and if the Crows midfield struggles as big as they did last week, then guys like Cotchin, Miles and Ellis could be sneaky considerations also.

captainCaptain Pick(s): Scott Pendlebury has been far from his usual “Dependlebury” self, with another disappointing (for him at least) score of 108 last week to bring his 3 round average to 104.6 Supercoach Points. Still, we know the type of scores he can put up, and he did score 158 last time these teams played earlier in the year, so he could still be a nice VC option here, along with Dane Swan. Carlton haven’t really given us many great Supercoach captain options this year, Marc Murphy has been quietly putting up some good Supercoach scores over the past 7-8 weeks, but seems to top out at around that 110-115 range, which isn’t enough to consider for captain selection.

captainCaptain Pick(s): Ollie Wines looks likely to miss this game, which could give the edge to the Bulldogs midfielders such as Jack Macrae, but this could also mean the Power look to Robbie Gray to shoulder a bigger midfield load. In Rounds 5, 6 and 7 that Gray played and Wines missed, Gray averaged 137 Supercoach Points, and had 10 + clearances in 2 of those games (he had 12 last week against the Saints where Wines barely played). Gray has had 5 games where he’s had 10 or more clearances, and Wines has been out for 3 of them, so it appears that when Ollie is out, Gray does more grunt work in the middle, which equals more Supercoach Points. For that reason alone I’d consider Gray as a VC pick.

captainCaptain Pick(s): The big out for the Lions will be Dayne Beams, who has finally been booked in for season ending surgery, so I expect that the Lions will be looking for Rockliff to carry more in the midfield now. When he was relied upon heavily in the guts last year he certainly didn’t disappoint us Supercoach wise, showing he was capable of easily knocking out 150+ scores. This will be a battle of the cellar dwellers, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see Rocky among the top scorers for the round.

captainCaptain Pick(s): Joel Selwood obviously used his time off to take a good hard look at himself, because since his return he’s been on fire, knocking out two massive scores for us. His last pair of scores against the Swans haven’t been great, but he’s also got a 163 to show us what he could do if he gets going. At Simmons Stadium I’d expect him to be right at home, and speaking of Simmons Stadium, that looks like it may be a problem for some of the Swans mids, with Hannebery and Parker having poor matches at the few games they’ve played at this venue. Either way, if you have Selwood and/or Hannebery, I’d consider them here, with Selwood being my first choice if you happen to own both.

captainCaptain Pick(s): Big game here, with the Hawks coming off a loss to Richmond and the Eagles drawing with the Gold Coast Suns. Luke Hodge had a good score last week, showing that even when the Hawks are down he can still get the job done, so I’d be looking at him as Captain material in this one. Jarryd Roughead (He scored 184 last time these teams met) and Jack Gunston could be options too, depending on how the Eagles back lines up and if McGovern makes a return or not. For the Eagles, I’d consider both Priddis and Naitanui. Priddis was a bit of a disappointment for me last week, although he still managed to put up a useable score. With Todd Goldstein still to play on the Sunday, you could still feel safe using either one as a VC option.

captainCaptain Pick(s): Heath Shaw has been one of the best defenders in Supercoach most years, but he’s upped that even further this year, becoming one of the best Supercoach players in the entire competition. He’s had some very good scores against the Bombers in the past and in his current form, you’d expect him to put up a score of at least 130 here. Callan Ward has had a poor couple of games against Geelong and Fremantle, but I’d expect a bounce back game here. For the Bombers, Dyson Heppell got plenty of it last week, but his 30 odd possessions only gained a few hundred metres, and his scores recently have been capped in the low 100 range. If this game had of been earlier in the round I probably would have taken a punt on Heath Shaw as a VC, but if you have no other options left at this point, you could also risk the C on him too.

captainCaptain Pick(s): Nat Fyfe is no certainty to play this one, and judging from Ross Lyon’s decision making in the past, especially against St Kilda, I’d probably guess that Fyfe will not be travelling to Melbourne this weekend. But you never know in the crazy world of footy, so you might want to leave a slight sliver of hope that he’ll play. Apart from Fyfe, I probably wouldn’t want to pick anyone else out of here apart from maybe David Mundy. Jack Newnes averages 69 Supercoach Points against the Dockers and Wayno tells me that’s his favourite number so he’s looking to back in Newnes here. I’m not quite sure what that’s all about…

BARRON VON CROW’S CAPTAIN SELECTION(S):

Even though he didn’t perform for me last week, I’ll still be backing in Patrick Dangerfield with my VC, but I will be taking the captainship off of Matt Priddis and giving Todd Goldstein the big C this weekend.

Going Rocky VC into Goldy.

What are thoughts on holding Buddy, I have 7fwds but was using Bont to cover Fyfe. Now Bont can cover Buddy and can cover Fyfe with Lever\Maynard thru DPP or have Steele as another cover option.

I have double chance but really want to beat my opponent (an old longtime foe) this week. I could always trade Buddy if I look like losing. 3 trades left after using 1 already this week. Worth holding trades or go all out this week?

    Wattsieesq · 07/08/2015 at 13:48

I've traded out Buddy this week. H'es been out for two of the last three and was really hampered by the back. His attack on the footy was poor. If he's back next week, I think the back will still limit his performance. I've got Fyfe and will be keeping him.

    Supercoach Expert · 07/08/2015 at 14:47

Nah buddy definitely needs to go this week and i would suggest going all out and even trading in tom lamb this week, he is a good rookie and is gonna make some big dollar$ b4 da end of da seeson

Wattsieesq · 07/08/2015 at 13:39

Great work Barron. I agree with your VC & C options and will be doing the same.

Yeah it is probably one of my favorite website probably second to pornhub.com, i would really be looking at Jobe Watson as an option because the injections they are sharing around are really helping all the boys at the club

alright m8 who should i bring in then smarty pants ?

          Smart boi · 07/08/2015 at 14:30

At this point in the competition you should be looking to go to some rookies to make some money, i would look at heene, touk miller and bailey dale in the forward line

            daddy fresh · 07/08/2015 at 14:32

thanks so much man i think i'll bring in heeny for fyfe to make some cash & go buddy to tom lamb instead of dale

              Smart boi · 07/08/2015 at 14:34

Tom lamb could be a good option but i reckon you should look to get some rookies in the ruck.
I would look to be downgrading Goldstein to a cheap 102k rookie. because goldstein is not in good form at the moment

                daddy fresh · 07/08/2015 at 14:35

yeah i agree, after his 221 i think he has gone a bit downhill, i think ill trade him to mckernan cos hes really good

                  Smart boi · 07/08/2015 at 14:36

yeah goldy is really going downhill and at this point of the season we need to be looking at making some money as i said

yeah mate good call, what about jono brown?

      lookin good · 07/08/2015 at 14:38

i might downgrade goldy to mick malloy and upgrade fyfe to molly meldrum!
also, i am thinking about getting in adam gilcrist?

Bye Week · 07/08/2015 at 14:35

Rockliff or hanneberry for vc?

Todd is perma C these days.

    Supercoach Expert · 07/08/2015 at 14:38

I'd chuck the C on Brodie Smith this week and maybe put the VC on Judd as a loophole option

the bont · 07/08/2015 at 14:36

hey community,
thinking about trading Goldstein this week as he is a bit down in form at the moment. thoughts?
