Crave Designs - stunning water featuresBarron Von Crow - inner sanctum

Welcome back everybody! Yes, the Supercoach Scouting Report has returned, and it looks like just in time if the goings on of Round 17 is anything to go by. Howdy folks, I’m Barron Von Crow and I’m very pleased to be bringing you the Round 18 Supercoach Scouting Report this week.

Well, where to bloody begin, eh? Last week was my first week back from holidays, I’m spending the week studying and planning, getting Gaz back into my side, friggin’ awesome I say to myself and then what do the Supercoach Gods serve up? A turd sandwich the size of which we haven’t seen in some time. Gaz, BAM, does a knee in the first quarter and is done for the year. Then we get the late outs of Dayne Beams and Lance Franklin, only to be followed up with Tom Mitchell being handed the Green Vest as well. And this week? Well, we’ve already been hit with the terrible news that Nathan Fyfe will be missing, so there goes another Captain option as well as well as the continued doubts on Dayne Beams as well. Make no mistake, this could be a trying week for us, but we’re a community here at Jock Reynolds, so we’re gonna stick together and help each other get through this.

So let’s get started and go take a look at what Round 18 has in store for us!

Also, remember to look out for the red and green Supercoach scores, RED = bad, GREEN = good which may help you out when it comes to picking your captains for the week

captainCaptain Pick(s): It did seem to be little more than a training drill at times for the Hawks last Friday. Make no mistake, the Tigers will certainly be a lot harder work for the Hawks compared to Carlton, but there’s still some Supercoach potential on offer here. Jordan Lewis looked like the 2014 version of him in Supercoach, putting up 150 points. He’ll be a VC candidate for this one too, along with Hodge, who is putting up some terrific scores as well and has a terrific 3 round average. For the Tigers the main man we’d likely be looking at is Brett Deledio. Dustin Martin could be considered, but he has been in a bit quieter form over the last month, so I probably wouldn’t make that move myself. Friday night game means we won’t pick a C here, but there are a few VC options to consider.

captainCaptain Pick(s): Joel Selwood had a bounce back game last week, putting up 142 Supercoach Points. We’ll have to hope that he continues that sort of form this week, and Brisbane is the sort of side where he shouldn’t have any trouble dominating. He’s put up some massive scores in previous games against them, if Selwood wants to show he’s back to his best and regain some trust he’s lost over the year, this is the game where he needs to belt out another big score. If you kept him in your side, or are using him as your Ablett replacement, then consider him as a VC candidate. For the Lions, Beams is still a question mark as of writing this (though we’ll likely know for certain at the time of posting) and Rockliff wasn’t worth much last week. I’d just stay away from the Lions altogether for the rest of the year I think.

captainCaptain Pick(s): Scott Pendlebury would normally be one to consider, though he has been a bit more inconsistent this year. He’s only had 2 games above 120 Supercoach Points in the last 10 weeks, so he’s become a bit of a difficult one to pin down. Add in the fact we could see a Bernie Vince tag come on would make me think twice about him in this one.

captainCaptain Pick(s): Paddy D has been on fire the past month, and is certainly one of the most in-form Supercoach players around. He’s never gone huge against the Swans before, which may worry some, but that may mean you just knock him down to a VC candidate, rather than a Captain pick. Another underrated choice may be Sam Jacobs. He’s had scores of 162 and 132 over the past fortnight and could be in for another big game as he takes on the struggling Mike Pyke and the younger Nankervis. The Swans always have a few options too, with Franklin, Parker, Hannebery and Kennedy all capable of having their day. Of that lot I’d probably put my money on Hannebery being the best performing mid for the Swans. I expect a bounce back game from them this week and they could provide some good scores.

captainCaptain Pick(s): Charlie Dixon has received the Charlie Kelly nomination for being the biggest wildcard of the round. His previous games against the Eagles weren’t great, but he was terrific against the Crows last week. He missed a few gettable goals, but still managed to score 123 Supercoach Points. Could have a similar impact against the Eagles if they struggle to contain his size and marking ability? Anyway, that’s probably all irrelevant when Matty Priddis is playing in this game also. He scored a lazy 196 against the Suns earlier in the year, and he could easily top the 150 mark in this game. If you’ve got Priddis (and I suspect many will as an Ablett replacement) I wouldn’t hesitate to make him my Captain for the week.

captainCaptain Pick(s): A lot like the above Port VS Saints game, this may be one where there isn’t a ton on offer. Dahlhaus and Bontempelli are the sorts who could have a big game if they get off the chain and while Goddard has been playing better lately, it still isn’t at high enough of a level you’d risk a C on him. By the time we get to late Sunday games we have to start considering only C options really.

captainCaptain Pick(s): The last game of the round would normally be the perfect opportunity to put a C on Fyfe, but that option is now up in smoke. So we’re left with considering the likes of Callan Ward and Heath Shaw from GWS and David Mundy from Fremantle. Ward has scored quite well against Fremantle previously, so I’d definitely consider him. David Mundy will be another one a lot of people look to bring in to replace Ablett and he’ll have a slightly bigger workload now that Fyfe is out, so a big score could be possible.

perfect 9Perfect 9 Pick: Callan Ward

BARRON VON CROWS CAPTAIN SELECTION(S):

My likely Ablett replacement is Matt Priddis, so I will be going with a Patrick Dangerfield VC and Matt Priddis C combo, while giving some consideration to replacing Dangerfield with Goldstein as my VC choice.

So, who are you guys looking at as your VC/C combo’s this week? Let us know in the comments below and good luck for Round 18 in Supercoach!

great to have you back barron von crow
ablett to danger? or to someone cheaper like sidey or wines so i can upgrade smith

    BarronVonCrow · 30/07/2015 at 21:29

I'd say trade for Danger for sure. Smith started to show some form in the 2nd half of last weeks game. He was on the radio today saying he was still having some trouble getting back into it after his multiple concussions that he suffered earlier in the year, but feels he's getting back to what he was doing last year. Let's hope it's true.

      Luke · 30/07/2015 at 21:52

thanks heaps for the perspective and insight

      Jambo · 31/07/2015 at 18:46

Although, I've observed when Sloane plays, Danger's peak is 110-115. I may be mistaken though. I reckon Priddis is a more secure option, if I'm not mistaken.

Eatemalive · 30/07/2015 at 21:13

I'm suggesting VC – Pendles C – Goldy as my safe same option, but might change depending on my league opponent

    BarronVonCrow · 30/07/2015 at 21:29

Reckon Goldy is a very safe option this week. Turning into a very dependable option.

    Derek · 30/07/2015 at 22:22

    Same

BKW · 30/07/2015 at 21:53

Good to see the scouting report back Barron!!

BTW – if you choose Goldy as VC you can’t use Priddis as their games both start at 7:20pm Sat

Good luck community.

    SideBySidebottom · 31/07/2015 at 18:56

I like the way you've set your team out like a team sheet. I find that a lot easier to read and digest than the SuperCoach standard. May injuries be something that does not effect you going forward.

James · 31/07/2015 at 02:05

Hoping for some guidance, 4 trades and 371,500 in the bank

Shaw Higgins Hodge Newnes Simpson Smith (Pearce McKenzie)
Fyfe Pendlebury Dangerfield JPK Griffen Selwood Lewis Rockliff (Steele Knight Laverde)
Goldstein, Naitanui (Read)
Martin Gray Swan Goddard Bontempelli Mitchell (McKernan Goddard)

Wanted to bring in some cover this week for Fyfe, replacing McKernan. The obvious choice seems Priddis but thinking a DPP would be more valuable for cover especially considering questions over Titch. Or is it better to just hold for finals and cop Knight/Steele's score?

    Mark · 31/07/2015 at 07:32

    Dont trade fyfe…

      Jambo · 31/07/2015 at 18:49

I agree. Trade premiums when they suffer long-term injury (i.e. 4 weeks or more). HOLD YOUR TRADES! You have a great team. Be wary of 'chasing the car', as Crouching One once said.

    Mac · 31/07/2015 at 07:35

Mckernan is done, trade him. Sub Steele fwd, sub Mckenzie to the middle and then get a premo defender. I like Gibson or Murphy. Then have Smith as bench cover.

    Danners · 31/07/2015 at 10:23

#Fyfeislife, upgrade Smith and you should be alright

Mac · 31/07/2015 at 07:30

Thoughts? 4 trades with $134,000

Shaw, Hodge, Gibson, Murphy, Simpson, Newnes, Pearce, Goddard
Ablett, Fyfe, Beams, JPK, Parker, Priddis, Treloar, Rockliff, O'Brien, Steele, Adamson
Goldstein, Maric, Read
Gray, Martin, Swan, Franklin, Dahlhaus, Goddard, Lambert, Daniel

Was thinking of going Ablett to Dangerfield then Beams to Pendles, Hanners, Armitage, Wines? That would leave me with 2 trades and still 100k in the bank. Then I plan to hold trades for a couple of weeks and once O'Brien and Steele have maxed their money making, downgrade one and upgrade the other to a premium for bench cover unless someone gets injured.

Thoughts?

    tom · 31/07/2015 at 07:41

    Hold Beams, he is playing

    Danners · 31/07/2015 at 10:24

Ablett trade sounds good, Beams you could wait a week and see wait happens, Hannebery should be cheap by then

    derek · 31/07/2015 at 11:50

Hold Beams and see how he goes.

Gaz to pendlebury for me, and then upgrade Steel in a week or two

    Jambo · 31/07/2015 at 18:51

Trade Ablett for Pendlebury or Gaff. Make no other trades. You've done very well to pull together a great team!

Pieman74 · 31/07/2015 at 08:33

Great work Barron and welcome back.

GAJ – Priddis and Mc Govern – B Goddard

or

GAJ – Selwood and Mc Govern – Lids

Which option ? Thoughts?

    Danners · 31/07/2015 at 10:24

    1st

Tulendeena · 31/07/2015 at 08:37

Hodge into Goldy for me

John · 31/07/2015 at 08:46

Thoughts on a dangerous move. 4 trades left. I am either gaj to priddis or gaj and krak to Sloane and rockliff giving me a 9th midfielder in Wallis to loophole after fyfe returns next week. Swing sets on every line accept ruck and hold last two trades for emergencies.

    derek · 31/07/2015 at 11:47

nice plan, but only having 2 trades left is dangerous.

I think just the priddis option.

Locked and Loaded · 31/07/2015 at 09:37

Don't see a problem with Gaz to Sloane or Selwood if it frees up cash to upgrade elsewhere. Which one though??

    derek · 31/07/2015 at 11:46

Selwood by along way. he is a gun. Sloane is a good player but is the level below Selwood

      Locked and Loaded · 31/07/2015 at 13:10

I feel he can finish very strong and with Duncan and Caddy playing well AND Bartel back it has freed him up quite a bit

Sana · 31/07/2015 at 10:00

Selwood, Rockliff, Sloane or Goddard (bearing in mind his DPP) ?

psyrick · 31/07/2015 at 10:58

With Devon Smith out with apparently "A minor knee injury" should I trade him for Bartel and have 3 trades for the finals. Or should I try to hold him and play Steele on ground for one week. I am looking good for league this week, but if the Supercoach gods have said anything this year its "Hold Your Trades". On the flip side, D.Smith is a bit of a spud this year.

Liam · 31/07/2015 at 11:11

Lambert or steele on field

    derek · 31/07/2015 at 11:45

    loophole lambert tonight.

      liam · 31/07/2015 at 18:31

      how?

Sarah · 31/07/2015 at 11:17

Thinking of turning Ablett and McKernan into Sloane and Bennell… what do you guys think? Surely lightening can't strike 3 times to Sloaney??!!!

    Sarah · 31/07/2015 at 11:18

This will also give me cover for Fyfe and then premo bench cover for the fwd/mids… however, I will have lost my ruck cover… but if he isn't playing anyway then he's useless!!

      Sarah · 31/07/2015 at 11:21

Or maybe Bartel instead of Bennell???

        Sarah · 31/07/2015 at 11:25

Too many options: Bartel, Sloane, Bennell, Selwood, Scott Thompson, Lewis??? Pick 2!!

          JMG · 31/07/2015 at 12:15

Im thinking if doing a similar thing Sarah in turning Gaz to Priddis, Spud McKernan to Bartel. I’ve got some cash banked already though. Leaves me a swing cover or loophole in Bont or Titch.
Personally I’m wary of Bennell playing for a lower placed team. Sloane has burnt me and I think Lewis might get a rest but who knows.
None of them are bad options but know the feeling, I come up with countless trade options each week then seem to pick the wrong one instead of going with my first gut instinct, that usually ends up being the right one 🙂

            Sarah · 31/07/2015 at 12:37

Thanks JMG. I'm feeling Bartel and Scott Thompson is the way to go. I've got nothing to lose in any case!!

Locked and Loaded · 31/07/2015 at 11:32

Sloane or Selwood Sarah or do you already have Selwood? Bennell is very enticing

    Sarah · 31/07/2015 at 11:55

I need one forward and one mid… currently leaning towards Bartel and Scott Thompson. I'm not in the running for overall, just need a POD for leagues.

    Sarah · 31/07/2015 at 11:55

    Don't have Selwood.

Jack · 31/07/2015 at 11:54

What to do with Kreuzer? Should I keep him or upgrade to McEvoy?

onetwo · 31/07/2015 at 12:08

g'day community, thoughts on my team? got 7 trades with $180k.
i was initially thinking of trading out beams for danger, but since beams is listed i could hold him and instead trade dale for someone like dahlhaus and then downgrade steele/o'brien. thoughts?

DEF: Shaw, Rance, Murphy, Hodge, Newnes, Simpson (Pearce, Hamling)
MID: Fyfe, Pendles, Beams, JPK, Parker, Ellis, Selwood, Lewis (O'Brien, Maynard, Knight)
RUCK: Goldstein, Maric (Read)
FWD: Martin, Gray, Swan, Goddard, Deledio, Steele (Lambert, Dale)

Carter · 31/07/2015 at 12:27

Hey community

Tossing up bringing in either Harley Bennell or Scott Thompson to complete my midfield.

The dpp for Bennell does not really factor into it for my team. Any convincing either way?

    Locked and Loaded · 31/07/2015 at 13:38

Bennell has something special and can set you apart with Sloane back Thompson is at risk of dropping points.

      Carter · 31/07/2015 at 14:33

Good point about Sloane, cheers mate

Locked and Loaded · 31/07/2015 at 13:41

Question for everyone and anyone… Is Sloane out of the woods with any pre existing injuries. I really want him back in over Selwood although with all of the injuries that have occurred this year I'm very frightened. Talk me into it or out of it!!

Wattsieesq · 31/07/2015 at 13:42

Great work Barron. I really look forward to your Scouting Report and have missed it for the past few weeks. Welcome back.

Want to trade McKernan for bench cover. Unsure who to choose though. Options are Brent Harvey or Steven Motlop or anyone else that is under $450k

    Motlop

QueefBurgler69 · 31/07/2015 at 14:13

Im going for league win and will definitely win this week!!
so in saying that should i..

> Hold gaz and trade to hannerz next week as he should drop $30k with 200 BE saving about 35k for finals
or
> Gaz to Priddis this week

    SideBySidebottom · 31/07/2015 at 19:42

    Priddis now.

oliver · 31/07/2015 at 14:31

Going to take a bit of a risk this week, going Ablett to Bennell and will hold Smith for another week. Currently 30k short of turning Smith in to Picken so will wait, hope and pray that Picken drops a lot of cash and Smith manages to make a little bit of cash. At this point of the season, it's time to take some risks, still have 6 trades left after this week so could always downgrade a rookie next week.
