Hello Community! This is a message to the Supercoach Gods – on behalf of the community, you can go and get stuffed! First, you take away GAJ and Rocky at the start of our seasons, then you bring Rocky back only to again take him away, then you take Sloane away not once but twice, and now you again take GAJ?! What the hell is wrong with you? Seriously, are you bored with your lot in life and want to inflict pain and misery on the good and humble folk of our great game? I ask, no I demand, that you stop it immediately. You hear me?
Can this year just stop trying to roger us every which way possible?!! Just when we think it is back on track, and the bald magical beast is back pumping out supreme tonnage, Matt Shaw’s bonce of unwashed blonde shag accidentally takes out the knee of the chosen one. Shaw should be delisted for this crime against Supercoaches. GAJ was going to be the difference for many of us, he was our ticket back up the charts and prove the winning move for our finals series as his price would preclude many of our competitors to afford the great man. No longer. The plan is broken. Stick a fork in me community, because I am well and truly cooked!
It’s been a tough round for a bunch of coaches. For the 33% of coaches who scrimped and saved for our saviour, we are now buggered, having to use another trade and losing significant points this week to rectify GAJ. If that wasn’t enough, then Beams and Buddy’s late withdrawals inflicted some more hurt. And if that wasn’t enough, we had some royal smelly turds produced by Armitage, Rocky, Maric and T-Mac who were all unable break 65. And then, if that wasn’t enough, we have Tom Mitchell starting as sub – really, Longmire, have a look at yourself and take the game seriously! For coaches, like me, who have a decent number of those players, it has been another tough week.
On the positive side, there were some premiums doing what they should like Danger, Priddis and Hodge all going seriously large pumping out scores of 140 plus and then we had some long lost premiums back to their best in Lewis and Selwood also breaking the magical 140 and thankfully the Wolfman Fyfe was back to his best. There were also some impressive performances from Jack Macrae (who has continued a remarkable run of recent form) , and some old men of the game like NRoo and Petrie! Special mention to Boomer also who turned it on in his 400th by pumping out a 107 (you may recall me mentioning him as a good inclusion in last week’s Check-In). BJ Goddard (also mentioned last week) was back to his best with a 117 – both tasty options for those with the luxury of building deep bench cover.
So what is this week’s dilemma?
For a lot of coaches, myself included, it will be dealing with GAJ and maybe Beams. The only dilemma is who I go to, it will be difficult to go past a Dangerfield or Priddis, now is not the time to get cute, we need ultra-premiums capable of bursting through the 140 barrier with ultra-high ceilings. Both Danger and Priddis qualify in my opinion. The other thought in my mind is to build some added flexibility into the team and turn GAJ into Hodge.
For those coaches without GAJ, depending on your number trades, I suspect focus will turn to the backline where (other than Shaw and Hodge) it has been quite difficult finding consistent premiums. I know a few coaches in the top 1,000 are still running the likes of Ibbotson or Brodie Smith, perhaps now is the time to look a little higher up the quality spectrum. One player to consider in this dilemma is Dylan Roberton of the Saints who produced a whopping 144 against the Dees. Before you jump to the automatic conclusion and think I have lost my mind, this guy has been in seriously hot form – averaging 115 over his past 6 games and is also a serious POD in less than 3.5% of teams. I like those figures!
So what am I thinking about this week?
Last week I ended up ditching Thurlow for Hurley (a serious POD in decent form). I was looking for a defender for less than $470k and was considering T-Mac, Houli or a cheaper option like Kelly but went with Hurley who is in less than 3% of teams. Kelly looks an absolute steal and a great option for those coaches who can afford to build bench cover down back. My plan was to save some cash and look to grab Hodge in place of Brodie Smith this week. However, with GAJ looking like his season is over, I will be trading him out – just not sure who comes in as yet.
