Round 8 Supercoach Scouting Report
Howdy folks, Barron Von Crow here with our Round 8 Supercoach Scouting Report. Well, Round 8 looked to be another shocker for many in Supercoach, with the late withdrawals of many players.
Players such as; Patrick Cripps, Shane Edwards, Tom Lynch, Jeremy McGovern, Tom Hawkins, Jesse Hogan, Isaac Smith, Jake Carlisle and Jarryn Geary. Not to mention injury effected scores from Jack Lonie, Christian Salem, Nick Riewoldt and Brodie Smith as well as losing Andrew Swallow, Matthew Jaensch and Mitch Duncan to injuries.
But we have to keep moving in Supercoach, lest we fall too far behind the pack, so lets get out of pads and penclils and get down to doing some Supercoach homework as we take a look at what’s in store for us in Round 8.
Also, remember to look out for the red and green Supercoach scores, RED = bad, GREEN = good which may help you out when it comes to picking your captains for the week

Last time they met: Round 21, 2014: Geelong DEFEATED Carlton 82-76
Key scores: Josh Caddy 140, Andrew Carrazzo 129, Allen Christensen 122, Mark Blicavs 120
Steven Johnson has scores of 130 and 110 in his past two games. He’ll become all the more important to the Cats now that a red-hot Mitch Duncan is out for 3 months.
Since his return from injury, Dale Thomas has had scores of 75 and 63 Supercoach Points.

Captain Pick(s): Normally you’d look at this game and whack a VC on Joel Selwood without any hesitation, but his 3 round average of 92 Supercoach Points will add a pause into that idea. You just know he’s too good to be held down this long though and there’s bound to be a huge score just waiting to be let out and playing against a struggling Carlton side could just be what Selwood needs. But as Mick the Mad Irishman pointed out on Twitter, we must not forget the negating tactics of Ed Curnrow and Andrew Carrazzo. Steven Johnson has also been scoring better with an increased midfield role, so there’s another potential VC pick too. From Carlton’s side, I’d most likely stay completely away from them.

Last time they met: Round 14, 2014: St Kilda LOST TO West Coast 70-103
Key scores: Jack Billings 132, Matthew Priddis 131, Matt Rosa 121, Mark LeCras 114
Matt Priddis was super duper hot last week, belting out 196 Supercoach Points. We thought he was beginning to play his way into some really good form and he proved it against the Gold Coast
A score of 75 last week to Nic Naitanui makes it his 2nd week in a row he’s scored below 80 Supercoach Points.

Captain Pick(s): An interesting matchup, with two great midfielders in Matt Priddis and David Armitage and two big forwards in Josh Kennedy (1st on the Coleman count with 27) and Josh Bruce (4th with 24 goals) facing each other. This game will have to go to one man however, and that’s Matt Priddis. If you own him, you just can’t pass him up based on his current form. Whack a VC or C on him and hope he continues his terrific scoring for another week.

Last time they met: Round 16, 2014: GWS LOST TO Adelaide 72-140
Key scores: Rory Sloane 143, Brad Crouch 122, Eddie Betts 114, Zachary Williams 113
Eddie Betts continued his great 2015 form, scoring 134 Supercoach Points last week. That puts his 3 round average at 121.3 Supercoach Points.
Another disappointing game for Ryan Griffen. He was subbed out early and only scored 53 Supercoach Points, which puts his season average at 86.7.

Captain Pick(s): Patrick Dangerfield has had some of his best career scores against the Giants, highlighted by a 2014 AFL-wide high of 192 Supercoach Points last year in Round 5. This years Giants are much better than last year’s however, so it remains to be seen if Danger can repeat the effort. And you all know the usual suspects by now for the Giants, with plenty of guys like Ward, Shiel, Treloar and Greene all capable of putting up C scores on their day. One Giant who looks to be heading into some really good form is Shane Mumford, he scored 138 last week, though he’ll have some much tougher competition this week against Sam Jacobs. And as we pointed out last week, don’t forget the big forwards against Adelaide. Josh Bruce had 120 last week, which means Jeremy Cameron would be looking at this game and maybe pencilling in more than a few sausage rolls.
Perfect 9 Pick: Jeremy Cameron

After a quiet 3 weeks where he averaged 82.6 Supercoach Points, Dane Swan bounced back with a score of 130 last week.
Last weeks score of 85 Supercoach Points for Scott Pendlebury was his worst return since Round 3 in 2012 when he scored 62 against Carlton.

Captain Pick(s): Pendles had a bad week, but that happens so infrequently that I cannot see any way that happens for a 2nd week in a row. If you were burnt with him last week, forget about it and jump right back onto that horse. He’ll look to pump out a very good score here. Same with Dane Swan, he could go very large against a struggling Suns side.
Perfect 9 Pick: Scott Pendlebury

Captain Pick(s): It’s getting quite hard to pick which Sydney player to pick week to week nowadays. They had 9 players who scored 100+ Supercoach Points last week and we’ve seen players like Hannebery, Kennedy, Parker and Mitchell all put up Captain worthy scores on different weeks. For the Hawks, Sam Mitchell has been great while Hodge and Lewis were out, Lewis will be returning this week, so I’m sure he’ll be looking to make amends. We also can’t forget the potential goal scoring potential of Jarryd Roughead and Lance Franklin. I’m finding it quite hard to make a pick from this one, not on talent levels, but just because there’s so many guys who could belt out huge scores.

Captain Pick(s): Looking at the previous scores, Jobe Watson would be the man to lock in here, with increasing scores, all above 130, in his past 3 games against the Lions. He did seem to spend quite a bit of time in the forward half for the Bombers last week, so that might be something to take into consideration again here. Dyson Heppell has also done well against the Lions, he had a 150 agains the Pies in Rd 4 and a score of 121 last week, but hasn’t really looked like being a consistent Captain threat yet. For Brisbane. Dayne Beams would be the man to seriously look at here while Rockliff slowly regains form. He was fantastic last week with a score of 141 and I think he’s capable of duplicating that effort here.

Dom Tyson is probably one of the more disappointing players for 2015. After averaging 94 Supercoach Points in a breakout 2014 season, he’s only managed to average 70.5 Supercoach Points this year and has a high score of 86.

I’ve been steering clear of most Melbourne players lately, with Tom McDonald the only one who’s looking like a Supercoach threat, but he’s usually topping out at a 125 point player at best, so there’s some safety in that, but you should probably have better options available to you.

Trent Cotchin finished off a up and down month with a fantastic score of 162 Supercoach Points last week against Collingwood. That’s his 2nd score of 144+ this year, so hopefully he can continue to pump out those massive scores.
Although he scored 99 last week, Matthew Lobbe continues to struggle in Supercoach, averaging 69.5 Supercoach Points for the 2015 season.

Captain Pick(s): There appears to be an absolute ton of Supercoach potential here if last week was anything to go by. Trent Cotchin, Brett Deledio, Shaun Grigg, Ivan Maric and Robbie Gray all put up terrific scores in Round 7 and we’ll have to hope they continue it into Round 8. Another interesting matchup, Port annihilated Richmond in the Elimination Final at AO last year, but Port are coming off a very disappointing loss and looking to re-energize their struggling side, while Richmond are coming off a great win last week and will be looking to continue their winning ways. Trent Cotchin is probably the one I’ll have my eyes on the most, he’s continued to show flashes of getting back to the superstar he was in 2012, but doesn’t look to have been able to keep it up on a continual basis. For the Power, Robbie Gray carried an enormous load in the middle for them last week, he’ll still be needing to put in a big effort here, and he’s proven he’s one of the best Supercoach players again in 2015.
BARRON VON CROW’S CAPTAIN SELECTION:
For me, it’ll be Vice Captain Patrick Dangerfield, along with Nathan Fyfe as my Captain.
VC on fyfe and captain on Robbie Gray. Loop hole is on the cards if Fyfe puuls out a 130 +
Nice! I don't think Fyfe will have any issues with that this week.
Same Nicky. Great minds think alike. (Fools rarely differ) lol
Yep VC on Fyfe and C on Robbie Gray.
Good combo, Timmy.
Good report VON! I have Fyfe Pendels Priddis Gray Lewis Treloar and JPK & Tmitch in my Mid who do you think I should C and VC?
Good report mate. I have Fyde, Pendles, Priddis, Gray, Boak and Parker are my main mids.thoughts on C and VC?
Lots to pick from there, Jacky!
Selwood vc and Fyfe C for me
Agree 100%
Yep
What are your thoughts on these trades community?
Andrew Swallow to Selwood
Vandenberg to Rockliff.
Thoughts??
Selwood a great pick! I'm one who wants to wait on Rocky even though everyone says bring him in? Read article on AFL.com about Rocky!
I agree. Not even in full training yet. Reckon he might be around the same price after his bye. Will take the chance to fix other things this week and wait until then
I agree Keen!!!
Go swallow to Selwood
and
Van to Priddis
if you can afford it???
Wow. Yeah changes my opinion.
The 25-year-old said he was still enduring significant pain from the injury and would have to manage it until the bye.
"I feel it after the game, the next two days are the worst," Rockliff said.
"I don't do a lot of training, so that's probably hard at the moment. I'm sure in the coming weeks that'll get better and I'll be able to train with the main group and get the main sessions completed.
Hey community,
Trading out Salem and can't decide if I should get Buddy or Ziebell
What do you reckon?
How do they fit in with your bye rounds, Owen?
Thanks barron, Buddy fits in a lot better with the rd 12 bye.
Great article by the way mate
I notice Sinclair has been picked for St Kilda. Been reading all week how is time is up as an elevated rookie. ?????
Hmmm…..Go Betts!!!!!
I can get behind that!
Betts or Goddard a better upgrade for M.Clarke
Betts!!! He's cheaper!!! I want Goddard as well with his DPP but dang Bettts is just huge right now and like 50K cheaper than Goddard gotta go Betts!!!
Should I trade out Lumumba, Oxley or Ibbo for Tmac??
hmmmm ……seriously??? LUMBA!!!!! DUMP HIM NOW!!!!
Any idea when Goddard from the Saints will be getting a run (if at all?)
I wanted to know this too. His stats in the VFL haven’t been great and he didn’t play last weekend
Cripps named up forward. Is this going to play bad on his scoring?
Cripps to rocky? or griffen out instead?
naming a player on field somewhere literally means nothing…he will play mid
Oxley or Ibbotson to McDonald or not? will leave me with 159K in the chest
I'd probably for Oxley to McDonald. Ox BE at about 90 odd, if he isn't scoring well he'll start to lose $.
Do players lose cash if it there first week injured?
Players that dont play dont loss cash.
Van Den Berg or Griffen to Rocky? Only $101k in the bank?
VDB….can ride Griff a week or 2???
Nice write-up Barron. Love the use of analytics!
Thinking VC Selwood, Fyfe captain (not taking any risks this week!)
LOL did you do what I did??? Fyfe hands down!!!! He is the Ablett this yr!
yes to your answer VC Selwod C Fyfe!!!!!
Yep. He should be a captain lock every week.
Cheers, Rem. Stick with Fyfe and he won't let you down!
Cant decide who to bring in out of Goddard or Betts opinions plz
goddard
Betts!!!! He's cheaper and scores more!!!!!! Love Goddard and DPP but price wise go Betts!!!!!!
Depends on how many rd 12 bye players you have, at this point we have to start thinking about the weeks ahead… If both work for you then I'd go Goddard as he is a proven gun.
Hi community,
Hi have decided to give Griffen the flick this week.
Lumumba will be spared and carried for another 2-3 weeks until Brodie Smith's price bottoms.
Trading out Griffin gives me 620K. Who do I trade in? My preferred pick at #1, etc.
1- Luke Parker.
2- Matt Priddis.
3- Scott Selwood.
4- Tom Rockliff (Was my favourite pick during the week but thinking picking him now may be a little early)
5- Adam Treloar
6- Or someone else
Thoughts greatly appreciated.
Priddis Mate !!!! Priddis!!!!
Rocky can wait he wont make that much!!!! I feel your pain but wait on Rocky till 12 its not that far off!!!! He wont raise that much and will be a good price!!!!
OK Selwood is a good option too seeing he's playing Carlton….so it's up to you Priddis or Selwood its up to you!!!!
I already have Treloar try to pick him up next week??? I like him!!!!!!!
Cheers mate!
Cheers!!!
Calm down yank
I'm calm! What did I do???
But Joel Selwood would be a better option than Scott Selwood…..lol
Olie Wines
I can afford any player under 605k in the midfield. I already have Fyfe, Selwood, Beams, Parker, JPK. Don't want Rocky, going Cripps to him next week. Thinking Lewis, Treloar or Priddis. Any other players I should look at?
priddis
If that's your budget, then pick the guy who scores the best. As Liam said, that's likely Priddis.
Trading Griffen – Rocky this week.
Still have Clark, Oxley and K Mac.
Should I trade one or hold all?
Thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Hold all!!!! I would wait on Rocky too….but that's just me!!! I think Rocky is a week 12 trade!!!
Great stuff Barron love your work.
Just want to hear your thoughts on these trades.
Salem to rocky via krak dpp.
McIntosh to dumont via dpp
Dude are you HIGH?????? Null and Void all!!!! Wasting trades!!!!
Ok my bad!!! Ditch Salem…..but dont trade for Rocky yet and keep Krak!!!! McIntosh still makes money and Dumont only playing 2nd game!!!! Don't be premature ejaculation!!!!
who do I trade Salem to then, I have no money in the bank.
Downgrade to Bailey Dale (WB), he is named this week after scoring 50 (sub effected) points on debut.
Cripps into Fyfe
RIP loophole options
Really? Cripps has been named??? Why trade him???? He's done well!!!! Still can make money I think??? Trade someone not worthy for Fyfe!!!!!
Is it just me or is anyone else s8ck of AMERICANMAGPIE1 spamming it up
What are the thoughts on priddis Sloane rocky and beams?!?!
I think he forgot to smoke his "crackpipe" this morning. LOL
Is T.mitchell the real deal this year and can we seriously expect him to be a top 6 forward this year?
in other words should i trade him in for griffen this week?
His not foward eligible, pure mid this year.
who is griffen? im usuing krak dpp to swap forward and trade mitch in if people think its a good idea
incorrect.
sideways trade but not the worst. Mitchell has DPP though so look to get him in as a forward
yeah swung him down forward afraid of being burnt though
stand corrected, was thinking Parker….for god knows what reason
why are people saying that t mitchells job security isn't great..
i mean.. who's going to take it..
surely lloyd, bird, goods, towers, rohan are all players that will miss before him..
am i not seeing something
Hey Americanmagpie,
A few community members are wondering what your current ranking is in Supercoach?
You have a lot of conviction in your advice for us all, it will be great to see where you sit in the comp.
Cheers mate
Community I am faced with a dilemma this week. I believe this is the time of the year that we should be looking to upgrade our sides, however i still have Swallow and Sloane kicking around in the midfield. I can trade from Goodes down to Lever adn Vandenberg up to Rockliff with virtually no left over cash, or I could sideways one of either Swallow or Sloane. Is it worth holding these two for the long term or sould I be focusing on short term cash generation?
You must always stay in the game despite injury, suspension ect, Do the the Goodes – Lever & Vander – Rocky trades and your side will look a lot better —-whilst Swallow n Sloane aren't playing theres no damage unless ypu dont have bench coverage – look towards next week where you can maybe go 2 up or 1 up and 1 down, Good Luck x
go swallow to Tmitch or Ziebell
Van to Priddis
if you have the cash?
Rocky can wait…..Swallow is not worth the long term but I will say Sloane is! He might be back net week???
Fyfe VC & Gray C seem like the best captain options this week but I have a bit of a problem…..
If Fyfe scores well i can put in Lambert for The Bont but i have Mitch Clark in my forward line as an emergency for the emergency loophole i was gonna use with Tarrant (For example if Clarke scores well presumably he will against the Blues…. substitute Lambert in for Tarrant) My other not playing players games are all on Saturday so pretty useless…..
Is it possible to use both loopholes or will i have to choose between the one?
The only way you could use it is-
Clark is your fwd emerg, and scores well.
Bring on Lambert for Tarrant.
See what Fyfe scores, if your happy witrh it as a captains score, then put the captaincy on Lambert, if not leave the captaincy on Gray.
You wont have the captains loophole if Clark fails to score well, and you go with Tarrant on-field, but then you could move the captaincy straight onto Fyfe, after Friday nights match.
I only wish to make one trade this week and that has to be is vandenberg. Who is th best downgrade option? Can be any line. Need help please community
Thoughts on Corey Ellis as a downgrade on bubble????
I was thinking either him or Stretch. Both options aren't all that exciting though :/
Job security a worry too
Don't see him getting big scores, probably 50-60 each week. Not sure about Job Security either, as a Richmond fan someone will have to make way for Conca soon. At 160k I think he's a bit much, wait a week and bring in Dumont/Dale.
Oxley has a break even of 95
Do we trade or hold community.
Cheers
I say hold!!! That's just my opinion!
Hold him for at least 1 more week. No need to trade unless he's your only week link in your team.
It's (weak) not (week)……..(link in your team!)
Sunday through Saturday means week!
My knee is weak means having trouble standing!
I'm trading him, but I have Burgoyne in my MIDs, so I'm swinging him back as a replacement and bringing in Rockliff.
Who's the best downgrade option this week?
And who to trade in for VDB out of Rockliff and Selwood?
There is no really good down grade this week with really no players on the bubble now!
Downgrade targets – Lever or Dale
I would go Rocky over Selwood, I am targetting both over the next few weeks, but Selwood will get cheaper, whereas I dont think Rocky will.
Is it still worth getting in titch
Yeah but get him now if you do!
Probably the last week to get in on him cheap. Another big game and he'll blow past 500K.
Brilliant Report!!! I do believe there is no point having anyone as captain besides fyfe. I mean he is just that much better then everyone.
I agree!
Indeed Oskar, he's the new ABlett for Supercoach.
Is Reilly Obrien from Adelaide been upgraded and one rookie listed by the club. Does this mean he can now play
That's right Murray, but the Crows are currently running with Josh Jenkins as the backup ruck. They see O'Brien as pure ruck, despite him playing a large part of 2014 playing CHB. So if Jacobs is playing, O'Brien likely won't be as they have said they don't want to go in with two pure rucks.
Part of upgrading him was also because it meant they could list him as an emergency, and the Crows were running pretty deep with injuries for a few weeks, so they did it to have a fresh body they could use if the worst happened.
thanks Von for the great update
Lance Franklin? When should we get him??
Get Franklin next week!!!!
I want make just one trade this week in vandenberg. Who is the best downgrade option?
There is no good downgrade ….if you trade Van……its a upgrade!!!!
Not everyone has the cash in the bank to upgrade Vanders and he definitely needs to go this week. I'd look at Lever (Adel) via DPP down back as probably the best option with C. Ellis (Rich) or B. Stretch (Melb) as the only other real bubble options. I'm not sold on either of them but sometimes desperate times call for desperate trades…
The other option is the risky Vanders to B. Dale (WBD) or K. Amon (Port) – pending him being named of course – trade via DPP in the forward line but with only one game under both of their belts waiting a week seems optimal. I really wish Vanders would be a late out this week so I could hold off trading him until I see another game from Dale or Amon.
i agree john
I feel your pain John. Same position I'm in. Was 7k short Vanders to Rocky. Thinking of going to Dale or maybe Dawson who is named for his first game but currently on the extended bench.
Who would you play on-field, out of-
Ellis-Yolmen & Touk Miller?
No loop-hole available.
Thanks.
Hmmm…thats tough…..flip a coin
Vandenberg > Rocky
Oxley > Lever
Hold Sloane until next week (to get more info on injury)
or
Sloane > Rockliff
Vandenberg > Lever through DPP
or any other options?
I've been planning the first one, Jimmy. Worst comes to the worst, you can still upgrade Sloane later and not lose any $ on him.
Sparkling as always, Barron.
Would like to put the VC on JPK or Buddy but Fyfe plays at the same time. So going to roll the dice with Pendles again.
Good luck to your Crows. I sent the GWS boys the first two Die Hards to motivate them against your squad. Get ready to hear a lot of this…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpq77MTyFkw
Haha, it's actually the first time I've been worried about the Crows playing GWS. Normally it's 80 point thrashings, Tom Lynch kicking 10 goals and Danger putting up awesome Supercoach scores. It's a weird feeling, let me tell you.
Think if the game was at the Oval you'd clearly win. But playing at Spotless and Crows missing key players will give GWS a much better chance to pull it off. Think Betts could go off, though.
I've reversed trades about 47 times ha ha.
I have 209k in the bank. 22 Trades Remaining.
Possible trade out players in priority: Vandenberg, Lumumbra, Lonie, Oxley, McIntosh, Cripps, Whitecross
Players I'm keen on getting in: Tom McDonald, Rockliff.
What to do; my trade was just the standard vandenberg to Rockcliff.
My midfield is fairly stocked though: Fyfe, Pendlebury, Kennedy, Parket, Griffen, Lewis, Cripps, Ellis Yolmen. (Bench vandenberg, sheed, mcKenzie). I feel like I'd benefit more (get a higher score boost) from getting McDonald into my defence. Oxley, Lumumbra, McIntosh, these guys are likely to get a bad score. Cripps and Ellis Yolmen are much more likely to get 80-100+ Imo.
I'd love to hear your advice on what move I should make. One, two, or hold.
Vandenberg -> Rockcliff
OR
Oxley -> McDonald
Should I put Selwood or Rocky into my mid this week community?
Selwood
if you could have 2, who would you choose?
Priddis, L.Parker. T.Mitchell, Rocky?
Mitchell and Priddis
Priddis and Mitchell
Loser skippies!!!
lol
