Dear Supercoach God, I write this open letter to beg for your forgiveness. You have taken many a good man, be thy named Lewis or Hodge, they did not turn the other cheek, and they were taken. This week you have sacrificed Sloane, Cripps and young lambs Salem, Lonie, B Smith and B Brown. I am not sure what sins I have committed, but please do not take thy Fyfe away via his reporting for a random trip. We all slip sometimes our dear SC lord. As Lekdog has said, Fyfe Is Life. Through my open mocking of your disciples (players) with an abundance of hair and those that have been christened with ginger pubage, it seems I have personally angered thy Champion Data Lord Up High. Would all be forgiven if I spent some alone time in the confessional and said the great prayer? Would all be forgiven if I said ten Hail Garys? Please dear Supercoach lord, I beg of your mercy. Your humble servant, Chicko.
Apologies community, I had to start with that letter to the SC gods as it appears I have poked the bear. You may recall my shaming of players with too much hair, (okay, mainly Cotchin) and players with ranga heritage, and it has come back to bite me like a snake on the nurries. Just this weekend we have seen men with Solomon styled bouffants rack up monster scores – check this out: Curling Wand Priddis 196, Manicured Bangs Cotchin 162, Wolfman Fyfe 146, Magnificent Mullet Maric 139 and then you have the red tinged variety with Orange Roughy 145 and Sauce Jacobs 130! That is a two fingered salute of the highest order my dear friends.
It’s been another weekend of absolute carnage and those who have dodged bullets will undoubtedly shoot up the rankings. It looks like scores of barely 2,000 will be quite common, but those with scores of 2,200 or 2,300 and above will rocket up the rankings. One of the inner sanctum and JR pre-season contributor, in the great man General Soreness, smashed out a 2,389 and is now at the very sharp end of the rankings at 38. Well done General – go you good thing!! For me this weekend, I had $1m of prime midfield meat sitting on the pine (Sloane and Lewis), so knew I would be in for some short term pain, in the hope for some long term gain but then came the news that Cripps was a late withdrawal thus this weekend witnessed my first sampling of an on-field Krispy Kreme donut….hence the title. Let me just say, it wasn’t at all pleasing to the ol taste buds.
So what is this week’s dilemma?
After lambasting myself last week for trading out Salem, his hamstring went ping and he scored a lowly 16 for those coaches who kept him. Then we saw the clash of heads from Saint Nick and Brodie Smith who scored 22 and 16 respectively. I have Smith firmly on my radar to pick up in a few weeks if he can get a good run at it. Young lamb Lonie also out with his score on 3 and sadly it looks like Jaensch and Mitch Duncan will be in for long lay-offs.
Last week I went Heeney to Dmac and, as per the central topic of last week’s Check-In, I went with Barry Mitchell’s-son. I traded Hogan to Titch and at this early stage it looks like I may have pulled the right rein as Hulk was a late out whilst Titch pumped out a rather pant swelling 128. I had a tweet during the week asking if Sloane to Priddis, Heeney to Dmac, or Hogan to Titch would be good trades. As I just mentioned, I went with the latter two trades for the Chumps……apologies Jedd! Didn’t Priddis absolutely light it up with his 196. I’ve decided to hold Sloane but am re-visiting that decision after this week’s rectal examination.
We have plenty of plump cows ready for the axe, the question is will you downgrade or upgrade or both? For me, it looks like the time has come to say farewell to Vandenberg (a breakeven of 98) whilst the clock is ticking for the likes of Oxley (breakeven of 95), Mitch Clark (breakeven 39) and K-Mac (who may survive another week whilst Saad remains injured). For those that kept Salem, it may now be time to say goodbye. Lonie may also have run his race.
I suspect there are a lot of coaches with decent warchests and there will be some upgrading going on this week. This is the nub of my dilemma this week – which players should we be looking at to bring into our squads and boost our scoring power?
So what am I thinking about this week?
This week, I am simply focused on upgrades. For the past two weeks I have mentioned both BJ Goddard and JPK and will be bringing one of them in, if not both of them. Just need to think about the balance of the squad as my back line is giving my sphincter some vice like tightening – Tom McDonald might be the answer to all your problems down back! Read the Dex Files on Tmac right here.
Other notable big scores this week included: Luke Parker back to his best with a 148, Beams a salivating 141, Lids The Barometer for the Tigers at 133, T-mac another 120+ score, JPK had another ton with 122, Buddy 119 and BJ went at 114. There are a couple of very tasty fallen premiums on the horizon with Selwood at $532k and a breakeven of 125 and Rocky at $447 with a breakeven of 79. HOWEVER, depending on how Rockliff scores, he may be available at under $400k come Round 10 – that is unbelievable buying right there! It’s all about balance fellow supercoaches. Lever is the only downgrade target of any note on the bubble this week, just not sure he is worth it. Lots of dilemmas, but I am focused on upgrades this week. I have a warchest and I am willing to spend it!
