Barron Von Crow - inner sanctum

Howdy folks, Barron Von Crow here bringing you the Round 7 Supercoach Scouting Report. Well folks, it looks like we can’t catch a bloody break in Supercoach this year, with even more injuries being piled on to our massive injury list.

Unfortunately we now find ourselves without super popular players such as Rory Sloane (owned in 17.4% of teams) and Adam Saad (in 70.3% of teams!), but in some good news, it looks like Tom Mitchell will finally be getting a run of games and we will soon be welcoming back the likes of Ollie Wines and Steele Sidebottom back to our potential teams.

But all is not lost, even if you fell several thousand places in the rankings like I did after a terrible round 6. Now’s the time to buckle down and keep working at it and that’s what the Jock Reynolds Community is here to help you do. So let’s get moving and check out what Round 7 has in store for us!

Also, remember to look out for the red and green Supercoach scores, RED = bad, GREEN = good which may help you out when it comes to picking your captains for the week

captainCaptain Pick(s): Jobe Watson and Dyson Heppell have both put up Captain worthy scores this year, though Heppel has 2 sub 100 point games in a row leading up to this one and Watson’s 3 round average is 99.6. Brendon Goddard appears to be firing on all cylinders at the moment, with scores of 134 and 135 over the past two weeks, so he could be the man for the Bombers here. For North, Todd Goldstein is probably the only one you’d look at. He’s the only Roo to average 100+ Supercoach Points for the season and has a couple of 150+ games to his name this year. Going up against Bellchambers, you’d think he’d be a chance to do it again.

captainCaptain Pick(s): Will be a very interesting game, with the Saints coming off one of the best come from behind wins ever against the Bulldogs and the Crows, who have now lost Rory Sloane from their midfield brigade to go along with Richard Douglas and Cam Ellis-Yolmen. David Armitage is probably THE in-form midfielder in the AFL at the moment, his 5 round average is sitting at 129.4 Supercoach Points and he’s every chance to have another 130+ point game here. The Crows will most likely be looking for a big game from Patrick Dangerfield who has been getting tagged quite a bit lately, so he might not be putting up big points, he certainly hasn’t done it previously against the Saints. Also, don’t discount someone like Josh Bruce taking advantage of a smaller Crows backline now that Riewoldt is back. If Talia goes to Roo, then Bruce could be matched up on smaller players such as Cheney, Lever and Laird and kick a bag of goals like he did against GWS and Essendon.

captainCaptain Pick(s): Hawthorn will still be missing Luke Hodge and Jordan Lewis from suspension for this game, so Shaun Burgoyne could be the one stepping up again for the Hawks this week. He had 31 disposals and 127 Supercoach Points last week and they’ll likely need a repeat effort like that again. Tom McDonald has also been the best Supercoach player for the Demons this year, but his season high is only 125 Supercoach Points. He’s been consistent, but hasn’t pumped out a huge score that’d make us take a risk on him as a VC/C pick. The Hawks are one of the best teams offensively and Melbourne are still only a middle of the road team defensively, allowing 12.7 goals a game, so Jarryd Roughead and Jack Gunston are chances to kick a bag also. I’d consider a VC on Roughy if I had him.

captainCaptain Pick(s): Carlton have generally been awful this year, and they’ll be coming up against an impressive GWS side, so I can’t see them having much luck here. GWS on the other hand, they’ll be looking to have a few players potentially score very well. Callan Ward, Dylan Shiel, Adam Treloar, Ryan Griffen will all be capable of putting up good scores. And the big wildcard for this game will be Jeremy Cameron. He had 7 goals last week against the Hawks and Carlton have already had guys like Josh J. Kennedy kick double digit goals on them in a game. He could be in for another BIG game. Mumford blasted the Blues last time they played, but his season high is only 108 Supercoach Points this year.

HotAfter averaging 71.5 Supercoach Points over the first month of the 2015 season, Mitch Duncan has had scores of 140 and 153 Supercoach Points over the past fortnight, which has boosted his season average to 96.5 Supercoach Points.

coldJoel Selwood’s coldish streak has continued. He hurt his hand last week, but still managed to score 104 Supercoach Points, but his season average 100.6 points is probably a good 20 points short of what we’d expect from such a quality player.

captainCaptain Pick(s): With Joel Selwood’s continuing to score below what we expect, I couldn’t really recommend picking him here, even though he’s every chance to get back to his best. Steve Johnson finally had a good game again last week, so he’d be looking to continue that form line and Mitch Duncan has been on fire the past 2 weeks as well. For the Swans, Kennedy, Hannebery, Mitchell (who will likely be the most traded in player this week) and Parker could all put up good scores and while Lance Franklin has yet to fire a big shot this year, it’s bound to happen soon. Although his previous form against the Cats may sway a few people off of banking on it this round. I’d likely stick with Hannebery and JPK for this one.

captainCaptain Pick(s): West Coast had a great win last week and will be looking to take care of a still undermanned Gold Coast side here. Matt Priddis looks like he’s finally finished his warmups and is ready to start playing some Supercoach football, knocking out a very good score last week. He’ll look to continue that sort of scoring line here against the Suns who lack some serious firepower in the middle at the moment. Josh J. Kennedy will also be looking to take advantage of that, with some quick ball movement hopefully giving him plenty of opportunities to kick goals. Dion Prestia has continued to chug along for the Suns, but he was knocked loopy last week and had to come off the ground. I don’t think it will affect him too much, but there’s still a chance he could be a bit slow off the mark. I’d be looking to take Priddis here if I had him, I expect him to continue to build off last week and he could have a massive game.

captainCaptain Pick(s): Fyfe, Neale and Mundy have all been outstanding this year, and i’d probably take them in that order as my Captain pick this week. Fyfe will certainly continue to be locked in as my Supercoach Captain again this week. For the Bullies, they fell away against the Saints in the 2nd half last week, but they’re still a super team with players like Marcus Bontempelli, Luke Dahlhaus and Liam Picken who will also score well. Still, Freo are quite adapt and shutting teams down, so it’s hard to consider any other option than the undefeated Freo midfielders for this one.

HotScott Pendlebury is currently the #5 ranked player in Supercoach and only one of 6 players to average 120+ Supercoach Points.

coldDane Swan’s 3 round average is currently 82.6 Supercoach Points and he hasn’t scored 100+ in a game in that period.

captainCaptain Pick(s): Richmond, despite being 2-4, have a few decent Captain options to look at, with Dustin Martin, Anthony Miles and Shane Edwards all scoring above 124 Supercoach Points last week. Dane Swan has been quiet lately and Scott Pendlebury is probably the only Collingwood player I’d be seriously looking at. We’ve mostly been using Pendles as a VC lately with the Pies having Friday games, here on a Sunday I’d be inclined to take Nathan Fyfe before this or Robbie Gray after over Pendlebury as my Captain choice this week.

Key scores: Travis Boak 157, Matthew White 138, Brad Ebert 129, Ollie Wines 126

HotRobbie Gray, as many predicted, has really taken off after Port’s first 5 games against tough sides. He has scores of 134 and 143 Supercoach Points over the past 2 weeks.

coldTom Rockliff’s score of 97 Supercoach Points was a season high. He hasn’t been able to get a consistent run of games yet this year, but look for him to take off when he does.

captainCaptain Pick(s): Robbie Gray and Travis Boak are the main targets here. Gray has big scores over his past 2 games and Boak is running with a 3 round average of 128.0 Supercoach Points. The Lions also have a few players who can score, with Beams and Rockliff being the obvious choices, despite them being down on form somewhat. But the biggest one for the Lions will be Stefan Martin, who has a 3 round average of 136.6 Supercoach Points. Matthew Lobbe hasn’t been in the greatest form yet this year, so this could be another big game from Martin. Despite all that, it’s hard to pass up Robbie Gray, he’s looked near unstoppable at times over the past fortnight.

perfect 9Perfect 9 Pick: Robbie Gray

Barron Von Crow’s Captain Selection(s):

It’s a tough week scheduling wise, I had originally wanted to use Nathan Fyfe as my VC and Robbie Gray as my C, but I don’t have a way to loophole the scores since I use Tom Read from Geelong, who all play before Fremantle and Port this week. So with that in mind, i’ll be looking at Todd Goldstein as my Vice-Captain this week and in a very difficult pick, i’ll be taking Robbie Gray as my Captain choice over my usual selection of Nathan Fyfe.

So who are you guys looking at making your VC and C this week? Let us know in the comments below and I hope you have a great Round 7 in Supercoach!

I've got Lambert on the pine so I am able to put the VC on Fyfe and the C on Pendles/Gray

    BarronVonCrow · 15/05/2015 at 14:17

Nice! That should be a great combo.

    brook · 15/05/2015 at 15:53

that is a pretty tight turnaround … prob need to make a call by 3QT on fyfe. but could pay off well. i am thinking griffin v the blues at etihad

      SideBySidebottom · 15/05/2015 at 21:19

Yeah, don't get distracted on Sunday afternoon.

    Adsy · 16/05/2015 at 10:50

I'm doing the same except with Danger instead of Gray/Pendles. I reckon he's due to bust out a Hulk-like performance today.

slats7 · 15/05/2015 at 13:35

Another great article BVC,

    BarronVonCrow · 15/05/2015 at 14:18

    Cheers, slats.

Gordo D Magnificent · 15/05/2015 at 13:49

What is everyones thoughts on trading in ziebell instead of mitchell, i see ziebell having a higher job security and a higher ceiling, but also a higher injury and suspension risk given his past.

    I N Pieman · 15/05/2015 at 14:02

Ziebell is like a clumsy Joel Selwood. Can't question his commitment. For his price he's not a bad option. Agree he has better JS.

    scrofl · 15/05/2015 at 14:05

I like the Ziebell pick, gotta risk it to get the biscuit!

      BarronVonCrow · 15/05/2015 at 16:48

Yea, it's not the worst guy to risk on. I'm not huge on him, but he could do decently and should be a POD.

    Le schweppes · 15/05/2015 at 15:30

What about Tom Bell from Carlton ? He has DPP and is capable of some high scores, could be a POD forward for you that plays as a midfielder ?

      I N Pieman · 15/05/2015 at 16:21

I was watching him closely last week Schweppes. Significant beast that can't be tackled. Only problem is he plays for Carlton.

      BarronVonCrow · 15/05/2015 at 16:49

Was thinking about him too, LS, but get the feeling he may be a bit inconsistent at times. Very intriguing prospect though, Carlton mate is sky high on him though.

    SideBySidebottom · 15/05/2015 at 21:23

Ziebell before Mitchell and fifteen other before them.

I N Pieman · 15/05/2015 at 14:13

Nice one Baron. Goldy vs TBC looks like a solid option for VC. With Pendles Fyfe & Gray playing Sunday it makes Loophole tough on Sunday.

    BarronVonCrow · 15/05/2015 at 14:19

Indeed it does make it difficult, Pieman. Hoping Goldy can get back to those big scores again.

      I N Pieman · 15/05/2015 at 14:29

Another 150 would be very handy

Pitchko FC · 15/05/2015 at 14:16

    Unfortunately not, Pitchko.

barrenvoncrow.

what are your thoughts on lachie neale this season?
im thinking of bring in either him or goddard
thoughts

    BarronVonCrow · 15/05/2015 at 16:47

Looking pretty good so far. My only issue/worry is if Freo start to mess about with him in the 2nd half of the year to give important players like him a rest for finals.

      SideBySidebottom · 15/05/2015 at 21:28

He's only a kid. Surely he'd be exempt from Crazy Ross' curse.

Andy · 15/05/2015 at 14:32

Is lachie neale a good replacement for sloane ? Any suggestions welcome

    @AusSports84 · 15/05/2015 at 14:45

Depends on your other mids. I would bring in the best UBER premo that you don't have i.e Pendles JPK Ward

    BarronVonCrow · 15/05/2015 at 16:47

As good as any Andy, depending on how much cash you have to spend.

Go look at the "Dan Aykroyds" in Patch's piece and that may give you some ideas for replacements if you want to wait a week or two.

@AusSports84 · 15/05/2015 at 14:44

Great write up mate.
2 questions from me please;

1) Mckenzie or Goddard ?
2) Which 2 go out of the following 3, CEY Vanders and Hogan?

Cheers in advance.

    Andy · 15/05/2015 at 14:54

I would say CEY and Hogan

    TRIGGER HAPPY · 15/05/2015 at 16:39

Vanders and hogan. CEY still got to cash to make straight back in next week with Sloanedog out.

    BarronVonCrow · 15/05/2015 at 16:46

    1. McKenzie
    2. Vanders and Hogan.

BigDropKick · 15/05/2015 at 15:09

Help ! cannot decide …. Which two would you have on field out of Clark , Krak , Salem , Hogan
and who for Emergency ?

    BarronVonCrow · 15/05/2015 at 16:45

Lots of rumours Hogan is a late out. But i'd probably go for Clark and Krak.

      BigDropKick · 15/05/2015 at 17:03

      Thanks Barron

      Baggy Pants · 15/05/2015 at 19:17

How confident Hogan may be a late out

      BigDropKick · 18/05/2015 at 13:50

Glad I listened to you Barron re Hogan ! , but stupidly put Krak on my bench for Salem …. amazed I still managed 2114 with mcGovern Salem and Cripps / still in top 1% ! : ) atm

    TRIGGER HAPPY · 15/05/2015 at 17:45

Krak and Salem other two doubtful if they will get on the park

Charlesy · 15/05/2015 at 15:12

Thanks Barron, I’m going to try Ryan Griffin as vc versus a weak Carlton and if that fails I’m looking at Gray on Sunday.

    BarronVonCrow · 15/05/2015 at 16:45

    Nice stuff, Charlesy

Glenn · 15/05/2015 at 15:31

Who to bring in this week, Priddis or Beams

Or any other similar priced??

    TRIGGER HAPPY · 15/05/2015 at 15:53

Depends on who u have and the bye structure with your team. Both solid picks for the price.

      Glenn · 15/05/2015 at 15:57

Planning to bring in Rocky next week so leaning towards Priddis, although Beams would be better for bye structure…

        TRIGGER HAPPY · 15/05/2015 at 16:01

How about Danger with Sloane out?

          Glenn · 15/05/2015 at 16:04

Yeah he has crossed my mine today, guess then its High Ceiling vs Reliability

        SideBySidebottom · 15/05/2015 at 21:34

If Beams works then get him.

TRIGGER HAPPY · 15/05/2015 at 15:34

Ballsy or crazy? Bennell as vc? Went big before getting on the syrup, 40 plus possies in the magoos and a point to prove? Always got gray or Fyfe as c on Sunday.

    zeesus · 15/05/2015 at 15:39

I mean… he's capable. He gets about 2 huge scores a season. My question is.. what are the chances you will have the VC on him when he hits that big score?? 2/20…. that gives you a 10% chance.

      SideBySidebottom · 15/05/2015 at 21:37

What will make you more upset, picking him and he fails or not picking him and he explodes? Take the road to the least frustration.

Charlesy · 15/05/2015 at 16:16

Hi guys I should know this but can some nice person confirm what happens in this situation please? I have no one ‘playing’ on my midfield bench but have two playing emergencies on the bench in the forward line. What is the best thing to do here? Best advice wins a prize

    Charlesy · 15/05/2015 at 16:18

I still owe Sarah a yacht but generally I’m good for providing promised gifts and prizes. Sometimes

    TRIGGER HAPPY · 15/05/2015 at 16:30

Nothing as long as u have 22 players on field. Ride the lightning and hope the general doesn’t strike or u have a late out.

      Charlesy · 15/05/2015 at 17:05

Thanks Trigger. Good luck this weekend mate

        TRIGGER HAPPY · 15/05/2015 at 17:09

Thanks let’s hope it’s carnage free!

Rambos_Radish · 15/05/2015 at 17:26

Yeah forced to go potentially Patrick Cripps as my VC option with no other serious choices popping up on an early saturday or friday night game! Hopefully he whipps out 180 odd again and if not then fyfe is a trusty fella

    SideBySidebottom · 15/05/2015 at 22:00

Fortune favours the bold, sometimes. Good luck with it, I flirted with it but went for Goldy.

Liam · 15/05/2015 at 17:57

Another great article Barron, what are your thoughts on my trades this week?

Rich down to mckenzie

Sloane to Gray.

Then next week i can go hogan to jpk or selwood via gray dpp

Would love to know your thoughts community
Cheers

Rosco · 15/05/2015 at 18:45

I'm going Danger as VC this week. Will carve it up! No Sloane, average St.Kilda side. Surely this is his week to stamp his beast scoring ability.
