Round 5 Supercoach Scouting Report
Howdy folks, Barron Von Crow here bringing your another edition of the Supercoach Scouting Report! It was another tough one in Supercoach last week for many of you, but for those of you who did well, you may have found yourself shooting up the rankings!
Another week will bring another week of fortunes for you all though, so let’s go see if we can make Round 5 a good one for everybody.
Also, remember to look out for the red and green Supercoach scores, RED = bad, GREEN = good which may help you out when it comes to picking your captains for the week.

Last time they met: Round 15, 2014: Carlton LOST TO Collingwood 76-91
Key scores: Steele Sidebottom 178, Jarrod Witts 135, Scott Pendlebury 131, Chris Yarran 122
Patrick Cripps was the #1 ranked player in Supercoach for Round 4 with a score of 172. This eclipsed his previous best of 89 Supercoach which he scored in Round 3. Not a bad way to knock out your first 100+ score in Supercoach!
Since opening the 2015 season with a score of 147, Sam Docherty has been averaging 77 Supercoach Points, which is 0.19 points higher than his 2014 average.

No one else from Carlton has really looked like putting up really good scores so far this year, but Collingwood have two old favourites in Scott Pendlebury and Dane Swan. Many went for Swan as a VC last week and it didn’t pay off, and there’s been reports he’s spent the week in a moonboot, which I’m sure will make many Supercoachers understandably skip him this week. Pendlebury the VC pick here it looks like.
Perfect 9 Pick: Scott Pendlebury

Joel Selwood has been hit and miss so far this year, he had a score of 154 in Round 3, but then responded with a score of 84 last week. I’d still back him in here. Trent Cotchin has been the same for the Tigers, with a score of 144 in Round 3, then a score of 95 last week against Melbourne, but he still could put up a good score. Alex Rance will have his hands full dealing with Geelong’s twin-tower forward line, but that could work in his favour if he can get on top of them. I’d still go for Selwood as the best bet here.

Bontempelli was down on form a bit after missing Round 3, but still showed some good stuff and Luke Dahlhaus has been a good scorer for the Bullies too. Not the type I’d take a punt on here though. Parker scored a 141 last time these teams played, but he’s been down on form somewhat this year, with Daniel Hannebery looking much more likely for the Swans in 2015. Lance Franklin could also cause some troubles for the Bullies too, he’s been consistent so far in 2015, but hasn’t had a huge game yet. I may be going for the VC on him here.
Perfect 9 Pick: Daniel Hannebery

Key scores: Pearce Hanley 191, Tom Rockliff 175, Dayne Zorko 159, Stefan Martin 130
Stefan Martin is now the #2 ranked Ruckman in Supercoach and the only other ruck besides Todd Goldstein to average 100+ Supercoach Points.
Both Nick Malceski and David Swallow were added to Gold Coast’s injury list this week, with Malceski’s Supercoach average down 44.4 points on 2014, while Swallow is short 16.4 points on last years averages.

Gold Coast has a raft of new injuries to deal with this week, losing Swallow, Malceski and Day, to go along with Ablett and O’Meara being out. Rockliff hid a lot of the time in the forward line last week, so I’d hesitate to make him VC/C here, but Beams could be a good pick with the Brisbane looking to take advantage of a depleted Suns side.

Key scores: Jack Gunston 144, Levi Greenwood 140, Lachie Hansen 134, Drew Petrie 120
Todd Goldstein continued his dominance in the ruck with a Round 4 score of 154 Supercoach Points. His average of 129.5 puts him 29.5 points clear of the next best ruckman, which is Stefan Martin who averages 100 Supercoach Points. Overall, his point average places him as the #4 player in Supercoach and behind only Nathan Fyfe for total points scored in 2015.
After scoring 173 last week, Jarryd Roughead could only manage 46 Supercoach Points last week against the Power.

Captain Pick(s): Jordan Lewis has been racking up some impressive disposal numbers this year, but it hasn’t equalled any HUGE Supercoach scores as he is mostly getting uncontested ball and also racking up a fair few clangers. Still, it’s bound to happen sooner or later, so if he gets another 35+ possession game, he is every chance to go large. Goldstein has been one of the best players in Supercoach and has 2 scores of 150+ in his first 4 games. He’s another valid option to consider this week.
Perfect 9 Pick: Todd Goldstein

Dylan Shiel is currently the #6 ranked player in Supercoach with an average of 120.7 points.
Matt Priddis again failed to break the 100 point barrier last week. His current average of 92.7 is well down on his average of 112.7, but for a glass half full outlook, this time last year Priddis was only averaging 96 Supercoach Points

Captain Pick(s): Josh Kennedy killed GWS last time these teams played and he has been in beating up some of the lower teams this year, only inaccurate kicking of 3.5 last week prevented him from having another bag of goals. Shiel has been the big surprise packet for GWS, scoring 136+ in 3 of his 4 games this year. If you have him then you could take a punt on him having another big day here, though Ward or Treloar could just as easily get off the chain.

Captain Pick(s): A lot of the Demons players have typically struggled when playing the Dockers, but on the flipside, there are a number of Freo players who find their form on the whole to be down a bit when making the trip from Perth to Melbourne. For Nat Fyfe, Etihad Stadium (11 career games) and the MCG (6 career games) are the only 2 stadiums where he averages less than 100 Supercoach Points at when he plays there. I’ll still be looking at him as my Captain pick this week though, he’s too good of a player.

Captain Pick(s): Dyson Heppell was fantastic last week and could be looked at as a captain option here, as well as Jobe Watson also. The Saints haven’t provided a ton of Supercoach points for us this year, so I doubt many will be looking to them for a captain.
Sunday, May 3, 4:10pm @ Adelaide Oval
Last time they met: Round 15, 2014: Adelaide DEFEATED Port Adelaide 99-76
Key scores: Sam Jacobs 163, Scott Thompson 137, Jasper Pittard 122, Rory Sloane 120
After a slow start, Travis Boak fired his first big shot of 2015, scoring 147 against Hawthorn last week, which is a new career high VS the Hawks.
Rory Sloane finds himself removed from the #1 place on the Supercoach mantle after only scoring 60 Supercoach Points last week.

Captain Pick(s): Travis Boak continued his fantastic form against the Hawks last week and should be looking primed to put up another big score here against the Crows. Robbie Gray has typically been quiet in recent games against Adelaide, and coming off a calf injury he might be again, but he is the type of player who can easily tear a game open. One of Schulz, Ryder and Westhoff have the potential to fire here also as Port will look to stretch the Crows inexperienced backline. The question on the Crows side is will a Kane Corners tag be headed to Sloane or Dangerfield? Rory Sloane will have a lot to make up for after last weeks performance which let a lot of Supercoachers (including me) down. Brodie Smith will also look to be putting up a good score after a disappointing fortnight of footy.
BARRON VON CROW’S CAPTAINS PICK:
It’ll be Scott Pendlebury with a VC and Nat Fyfe as my Captain this week.
And that’ll wrap it up for us this week. So who are you guys looking at making your VC and C this week? Let us know in the comments below!
Great write up BVC!
I have the same options as you for VC and C
I was considering J.SELWOOD for the VC ( im a tiger fan and he could tear us a new one ) but PENDLES is a gun
keep up the good work.
cheers
Wheels
Team Name: Pnorkle900
Ranked: 9581
Cheers, Wheels. Jelwood as VC is a great option to consider too
Great article ! Can’t go wrong with Pendles as vc
Certainly can't R2D2!
An article of this knowledge and quality could only be from someone from Adelaide – love your work Barron.
Haha, thanks DramaLlama
Selwood will bounce back, Tigers haven't put a hard tag on this year at all, but considering the Goldy or Buddy option as well… and Fyfe will get the big C.
Yep, reckon Selwood could have a very good game against the Tigers, grove_street.
Dito capitan picks Barron I would love to meet pendles parents Im sure there both silk worm. I think Goldstein might also go large
Goldy is an interesting one for sure. He'll be becoming close to a VC lock if he keeps up the current form.
G'day community,
What trades should i do this week? i want krak or tarrant but not sure who to trade out.
My team is:
DEF: Shaw, Simpson, Higgins, Newnes, Saad, Mcintosh (goodes, hamling)
MID: Fyfe, Sloane, Pendles, Griff, Swallow, Rich, NVB, CEY (heeney, vandenberg, miller)
RUCK: Maric, NIc nat (M.cox)
FWD: Dusty, Swanny, Wingard, TBC, Hogan Salem (Clark, Lambert)
I currently have 77k in the kitty and 25 trades left.
Would love to know your thoughts on what trades to do
salem to tarrant, NVB to krak
Lambert
NVB or Heeney > Krak
Lamber > Tarrant
I’m looking at Selwood to burn the Tigers with Fyfe as captain. But I’ve got a feeling about Buddy too
It’s really really wet in Sydney so buddy is out as a captain loophole option.
Get the feeling that Selwood could put up a round high against the Tigers this week, Charlesy.
Champion of a write up BVC. I am tossing up between Pendles and Selwood for the VC with C firmly placed on the back of the Wolf. Thanks again mate.
Cheers, Chicko. Toss a coin between Pendles and Selwood I reckon, hard to pick 'em apart!
Based on Dylan Shiels history of bad scores against West Coast I hope he stinks it up then I’ll try and pick him up
Shouldn't have any issues beating his high score against 'em this week you'd think.
Another good write up mate, Sloan and Grey's prices are wrong however
Forecast is rain, rain, rain in Sydney this weekend, so I'd go Goldy over Buddy for VC this week. But I agree that Buddy looks like he's going to absolutely tear some oppo team a new one very soon. Swans have Dees and Cats the next 2 rounds after this
Spot on Scotto. The weather counts buddy out as captain.
If Robbie Gray is out again this week i can put the VC on either Goldstein or Lewis and if they perform well (125+) i can put the C on Gray substituting out Jesse Hogan who can be my emergency. If they don't, the C goes to Fyfe.
If Robbie Gray does play i will have to put the VC on Pendles and if he performs well i can put the C on Lambert substituting out Krakouer who can be my emergency. If he doesn't, the C goes to either Fyfe, Goldstein, Lewis? Who?
VC for Lewis. C for Fyfe
its hard to pass Fyfe, im putting the VC on FYFE and the C on SLOANE IF Fyfe scores under 110
Those who chose VC that score 120+ and then get greedy like last week quite a few had Fyfe as VC and then went to Sloane and got burnt. I personally think it's great they got burnt because anyone who doesn't take 120+ is greedy and silly IMO
People passed up a 145?!?!? How stupid, glad they got burnt
Gray has been named but expect a late withdrawal
in exact same boat, have the VC on pendles (only good choice that i can loophole), then looking at the C on goldy, fyfe or lewis.
Torn between who though…
Lambert -> Tarrant
Lamb -> Tarrant
Lambert -> Krak
Lamb -> Krak
Or trade both out . Sitting on 28 trades?
krak the only priority, im not touching tarrant because he has a very bad history of injury and thats why he is a such a low price. Have you been using either lamb or lambert for loopholing? Me personally would keep lambert for a loop hole and trade lamb to krak. I just dont trust tarrant although he is very very appealing which those two 100s in his 3 round average going to make some coin. In some ways its smart bringing him in if you have a good strategy and want to use up two trades to make some coin. Obviously tarrant isnt going to score 100s every week but he'll make you some cash if thats what you plan on using this bloke for.
Trade both out. Tarrant & Krak both looking real good
Where are you ranked BVC?
What’s your team name?
I like to track the stars of this site
Cheers
Team name is ¡Peligro Abejas!. Currently ranked 4087. Disaster of a Round 2 and 3 knocked me out of the top 900 and down to 8,000 odd. Managed to improve into the top 5000 last week.
Cheers BVC!
May your rise continue. Good luck
Fyfe, Golstein or Lewis as Captain?
Are Gray and Swanny likely to play this week?
Who would you bench out of Saad, Oxley or McIntosh?
Who would you bench out of Clark, Tarrant, Salem?
Cheers
Fyfe for Captain for me this week, but Lewis has been getting a lot of it lately.
I'd bench McIntosh back and Clark forward since he's not playing!
Im loopholing my backs this week, Oxley (Emerg), but any score over 60, and I will throw Hamling on for McIntosh.
Clark out make the forward decision easy.
Goldstein (vc), Fyfe (c)
Top Notch Barron! Shiel or Goldmember for the VC for me and Fyfe as a last shot
Sounds good, Nate!
I am confused Re: Bye Rounds, PLEASE help. In my current side I have the following.
Round 11 I have: – 3 Adelaide, 3 Richmond, 2 Bulldogs & 1 Carlton Total (9)
Round 12 I have: – 2 GCS, 1 St Kilda, 2 Sydney, 3 Collingwood, 1 Essendon, 1 Fremantle Total (10)
Round 13 I have: – 2 North Melbourne, 1 GWS, 2 Port Adelaide, 1 WCE, 2 Geelong, 3 Melbourne Total (11)
What should I be doing, should I be looking at bringing players like LEWIS & BEAMS after round 1
What other options should I be considering?
Your advice would be greatly Appreciated.
I'm sure others will be able to explain better. But the basic strategy is to have enough players in your team leading into Round 11 to not have a donut. Then after round 11, you look at trading in players who have just had their bye, ie crows, Richmond, dogs etc, after round 12 you look at trading players who have had their byes in round 11 or 12 etc. the players you trade out are the ones you were always going to get rid of, but you use the byes as a good time to do this, particularly as we get 3 trades per bye round.
Goldy into Fyfe for me
Nice, Lach.
Should keep or get rid of Taylor Walker?
Any suggestions on who to get for him would be appreciated!
Out for Jack Martin
Depends if you want to upgrade or downgrade, or if you even have the cash to upgrade him.
The double downgrade to Taz and Krak this week is probably being made by 99.99% of teams. I've had my concerns about Tarrant but I also think if we don't get him in this week when will another opportunity to bring in a forward rookie arise. Especially if Salem stinks it up which is more than probable against the top side this week. What I'm trying to say is that if you need to make cash take the punt on Taz and a double downgrade. If anyone knows of players who may be on the bubble in the next couple of weeks who will have anywhere near as much upside as Tarrant please let me know
The next forward rookie to be on the bubble will probably be lambert or another injured fwd rook.
Fraser McInnes (West Coast) should be on the bubble next week but doubful if he has the same appeal as Tarrant does this week
Looks very popular, LL. I'm not huge on Tarrant either because of the injuries, but I've got Lamb sitting there doing nothing, so i'll make the switch and hope to make some $ off of it.
Barron thanks for your input I would love to follow you in getting Tarrant in. Heeney is the one I'd have to cull now.
What do we do with heeney not being named? Thoughts
Already have Krack and am trading in tarrent
Perfect week to trade in Tarrent with Mitch Clark out
Yeah, now that Clark is out with a supposed foot injury, it might be an option to reverse the trade and keep Salem and flick Clark to get Tarrant. I will have to think about it a bit tonight though. Clark could still be a handy emergency loophole play this round. Does anyone know how long Clark is expected to be out for? If its 2 weeks +, I might bite the bullet on Clark.
Cheers
Clark won’t be handy as loophole plays to early
Anyone else having problems logging into Supercoach ?
yeah , but all good now
Yeah slow as mate
Yeah, slow slow slow…..
Delicious as always, Barron.
Have thrown the VC on Pendles the last 2 with disappointing results. Going Goldy and Fyfe this week.
So if you have Pendles put the VC on him. You can thank me later.
I'll remember to do that, Throtts!
What do I do with the Skin Flute
Sounds like his golden ticket has been revoked, so you might need to look at trading him.
anyone know the extent of mitch clarkes foot injury?
still going up in cash, is it worth trading in robbie tarrant for either salem or clarke?
essentially using a trade to gain an extra 100K. thoughts on keeping both salem and clarke or trading one of, if so now with clarkes injury it makes it interesting.. could really make a significant difference if clarkes injury is a niggle that sees him out of games consistently.
Any chance that Krak won't get a game this week ? Named last on an extended bench, Gray & Amon also in ,thoughts anyone ? because being the last game of the round this might pose a few issues depending who you propose to trade out .
Gray might still not play, but I think Krak is a good chance to play
You'd think he's been playing well enough to keep his spot in the 22, but you never know.
I have Griffen VC and Goldstein. I wanted to loophole Fyfe as my captain but all my non-playing players are playing Sat (I have Lambert – Rich play Sat day, Heeney & Anderson). Am thinking Sloane might go big this week. He only went under 100 once last year ,so at a minimum, he will score 100.
Bugger that, I have just changed it, Buddy VC and Goldstein captain and have Anderson as captain's loophole
Hi Shezza, just be aware of the rain in Sydney. It’s still raining so that may make it hard for Buddy to kick a bag. Not impossible of course knowing him.
Hi community, good news that Daniel Mc Kenzie has been named by stk and named in the team. This is a possible defence down grade that may help us move on from Nathan brown and/or Brett Goodes. Woo hoo!
Yeah, bloody great news!!!! I need to find a replacement for Brown. He is lining up in the forward line this week. That would make him very versatile as he is a Def,Mid player in SC!! Lets hope Mc Kenzie show good early form.
Here is one out of left field. How about the VC on Mc Govern this weekend? That bloke scores a ton every week without raising a sweat….even during the last 2 weeks when he got subbed off early and was nearly a late withdrawal last weekend. Scores of 100 and 93. Against GWS in Perth with good weather and with his knee now hopefully settled, he could rattle off another 145 like round one.
The VC loophole for me is doing something different than the "masses" and keeping the C on the conservative option as insurance. This is the smart way to get valuable points on the other SC players without real risk. Fyfe C this week…obviously.
Cheers,
I like it mate. Love the left field ideas. Now it’s just if we have the plums!
That is serious trouser stretching news.
just wondering anyone can I do loophole with Heeney if my other emergencies are playing or so I have to take emergency of others , cheers
What do we do with MINSON is it worth trading him out for NIC NAT? I have Goldy and I have TBC & Read but what's going on with Minson?
Heeney or van berlo for Krak?
nVB
Clark is out
Clarke's injury is minor. Should be back next week. I wouldnt consider trading him out. His BE is -14 so there's still plenty of cash to be made.
Heeney out. Still hold or trade to Krak?
I'm holding Heeney – I reckon he can still make some more coin.
who should I trade out for Krakour, Heeny or Cockatoo?
same for torrent, Tom lamb or Mitch Clark?
Lamb out for 6 weeks mate and Clark still has a negative break even. Kill the lamb.
What to do with Anderson?
Absolute gun and in good form but can he get back into Hawthorn's best 22 for a regular gig without the vest?
I am going to hold. Few other cash cows going to come good shortly. May as well wait for a few weeks and see what happens.
I see McKenzie from the Saints is getting a game. Could be a good downgrade option for Goodes if anyone still has him. He is named as an emergency this week so he won't lose any cash…
yep watch macca this week, does well there are openings in the saints line up, wont lose any money so worth the wait.
Thoughts on:
Lamb and Heeney out for Krak and Cripps?
no point on getting cripps in now, you're just chasing points.. he is too expensive already.. yes he will gain maybe 200k in value.. but his output won't be that of a premium so he won't be in your final side.. you'd be better off trading in a rookie who will go up that price value, aka. tarrant. then upgrading to a premo, saving yourself cash money $$
I'm going to be patient with Heeny – he has BE of around 36 andonce he is fit again should make some more coin. Agreew ith chris – if you go Cripps you're chasing last week's points.
Only 50k price difference between Heeney and Cripps.
Thinking Cripps will play more of an inside mid role rather than the HFF in round 1.
it is a bit sideways but while it can seem to be chasing points but hopefully more like changing role.
Still 50-50 with this trade but thinking of playing aggressive.
lambert (via dpp), heeney (via dpp) or clark out for Tarrant?
lambert gives me an extra player scoring but loses me 35k heeny makes me 80 k and clark 70k
leaning towards lambert but the heeney trade leaves me with the option to upgrade salam to the best forward next week
is minson for stefan martin a good trade? or should i go for blicavs longer or grundy?
Also getting tarrant in for salem
Stefan Martin fully priced.
Blicavs for me with plenty of cash upside. That bloke is a gun. A super athlete and will get plenty of time in the midfield.
Just my take.
Cheers
Sauce and Mummy are only one week away from bottoming out in price.
Hi there – frustrated with Newness, but who to go with?
I have in my DEF: Lumumba, Saad, Gibson, McIntosh, Oxley, Nathan J Brown and Goodes (+ Newness).
Still have 29 trades (and want to hang on to them as much as possible). I'm thinking: McGovern?, Bob Murphy?, Shaw? or Enright?
Thoughts? Thanks!
MC GOVERN
Great article Barron
Just wondering what to do with Clark and heeney as they are not playing
cheers.
Lots of people moving Heeney out this week, has got a bit of a higher BE due to that score of 7 last week.
so trade or not yet?
Mitch Clark to tarrant and lambert to krak
Or
Taz to tarrant and lambert to krak
Any thoughts
Will try and loophole pendles into Fyfe , but going away camping for the weekend , so might not have reception to make any changes. Which also means to play it safe I need to put Gray into my mids in case both him and swan are late outs , and making me have to play Salem on field in place of CEY .
It could be season defining trade this week.
I have Heeney and Anderson in mids and lamb in Fwds sitting on bench doing nothing. I could trade any of them for Krak and Tarrant as conventional wisdom would suggest. However I need 16 trades to downgrade/upgrade to get to full premo side. Will have 23 trades left after trading in Krak and Tarrant, leaving 7 trades for LTI/ poor form after the byes and trying to have 4 left for finals. So with all that in mind the best trades this week are Salem and Clarke for Krak and Tarrant banking the cash, rather than what I consider sideways trading of Anderson, herney and lamb who have not appreciated in money as yet. 200k extra in the kitty and 2 downgrades already made.
Would love everyone’s thoughts on this
Cheers
Tony
Anderson is a fairway from Hawks best 22. I think Hartung, Whitecross and even O’rourke might be ahead of him now. Had his chance and didn’t impress.
Luckily this season seems to be fairly injury free so trading out fit players and keeping injured or not-good-enough-to-get-a-full-game players this early in the season shouldn't carry too many dangers. Safe as a baby in an open tent on the shores of the crocodile enclosure at the dingo park.
You started with Heeney & Anderson to make dollars now they aren't sack them and get a rookie who does what you need him to do.
How unlucky has Buddy been this season?
Think I have watched most games so far this season, and Sydney have coped all of the rain effected games. In his form he would have been averaging 120+ in the dry conditions that most games in Melbourne have enjoyed.
It’s going to be really wet again in Sydney town this weekend
You've gotta be kidding have you seen his fiance`
Is Clark a long injury, or a 1 week thing?
It all g no need to trade him
I'd trade him. His other foot 'ended his career' at Melbourne now his good foot is damaged the bad foot will be under a lot more stress and could flare again. Too much potential downside when other cherry's are waiting to be picked
Hi Community,
If I have 2 playing emergencies on the same line do i get the higher or lower score??
lower. Unless 2 players don't play then you get both obviously
Neither unless you have two non playing players on field.
Joshua Glenn named for Gold Coast. (Interchange). High risk of the green vest. Still, one worth watching.
Any one have any news on will minson???
Been playing the skinflute a bit too much I think.
LOL
Just want to throw this out to the community, Goldy is averaging 129ish,and he has had 2 ,150+ scores. All the other rucks are struggling with the rule changes. What would Goldy be averaging if the rules hadn't changed? 150???
Good stuff again Barron. Scotty T in career best form enjoying the freedom of playing beside Danger and Sloane will undoubtedly smash out another venue career high this week. He's also on the bubble averaging 135 with a b.e of 33 and only a sniff over 500k. Am I the only one excited by this?
Beams or Fyfe as captain beams is versing Gold Coast shouldn’t get tagged Fyfe is gonna get tagged by vince
