Round 4 Supercoach Scouting Report
Howdy everyone, Barron Von Crow here, dishing you up another helping of our Supercoach Scouting Report.
Well, the less said about Round 3 the better I think, it was a trying week for many Supercoachers out there, with injuries to players such as Jimmy Bartel, Ollie Wines, Jack Ziebell and Mitch Wallis, not to mention dud scores from guys like JPK, Dangerfield, Gray and a few others.
Those who did well would have looked at this week as the perfect opportunity to shoot up the overall rankings. People like myself, who had a dog day of a weekend found themselves tumbling down. But a new week of football brings renewed hope for us all, so let’s go see if Round 4 will be kinder to us than Round 3 was.
Also, remember to look out for the red and green Supercoach scores, RED = bad, GREEN = good which may help you out when it comes to picking your captains for the week

Alex Rance has looked to be scoring well and in another defensive option, Tom McDonald may also be an interesting play. He had scores of 125 and 122 in Round 1 and 2, and looked very good in the wet against Adelaide. Could be a big risk, but that’s what the VC is for most times.

Judd has been good, but hasn’t knocked out a really big score yet and Gibbs and Murphy have been OK, but nothing near their best. Another game I’d likely skip from my list, although I’m sure there will be someone who puts up a really good score here.

He was great against the Saints last week and probably won the game for Collingwood this time last year when the Pies played Essendon. Stick a VC on him and hope he goes to town on the Bombers. If you don’t own Swan, then Jobe Watson (147 Supercoach Points last week) or Scott Pendlebury could be good options also.

Key scores: Gary Ablett 145, Heath Shaw 134, Jaeger O’Meara 129, Kade Kolodjashnij 117
Zac Smith is currently the 3rd ranked Ruckman in Supercoach with an average of 96.7 Supercoach Points. In 2014 he averaged 76.2 Supercoach Points.
Despite averaging almost identical stats as in 2014, Shane Mumford is averaging 25.2 fewer Supercoach Points in 2015. He looks to be one of the bigger victims of the new Ruck rules for Supercoach.

He’s been a bit slow off the mark this year, but this is the perfect game for him to put his season right. Gray doesn’t have the greatest record against the Hawks and he wasn’t all that great last week, so I’d likely skip him for this game. For the Hawks, Jordan Lewis had 41 possessions, but was let down by his disposal efficiency and lack of contested ball, but if he can keep racking up the possies, he’s bound to pay off eventually.

Fyfe was OK last week, and his previous form against the Swans may cause some people to hesitate giving a VC to Fyfe. I’ll be backing him in, with Geelong playing on Sunday you’ll be able to use the Captains Loophole should he fire here. Luke Parker will also be hopefully putting up a decent score as he’s been down in form ever since his collision with Lance Franklin a few weeks ago.

His previous record against North would indicate a score in the 140 range isn’t out of the realm of possibility. Goldstein proved it’s still possible for a ruckman to score big with a 154 against Brisbane in Round 2, so he could be another option to consider as well.

Last time they met: Round 6, 2014: Western Bulldogs LOST TO Adelaide 83-92
Key scores: Matthew Boyd 143, Tom Lynch/Luke Dahlhaus 128, Rory Sloane 123, Patrick Dangerfield 113
Rory Sloane is now the #1 ranked player in Supercoach, with 419 Supercoach Points for an average of 139.6 a game.
After being tagged by Bernie Vince, Patrick Dangerfield’s score of 74 Supercoach Points was his lowest return since he scored 72 Supercoach Points in Round 16 against GWS.

But even with that, Rory Sloane is the one to look at here. He’s currently the #1 player in Supercoach and has put up a score below 134 this year. Bontempelli is an interesting choice too, he might be a tough matchup for someone like Jake Kelly or Matty Jaensch, and I could see him getting the better of them here if he’s 100% fit.
BARRON VON CROW’S CAPTAIN SELECTIONS:
It’ll probably be a popular combo this week, but I’ll be locking in Dane Swan as my VC pick and Rory Sloane as my Captain.
And that’s it from me this week. Hope your Round 4 see’s your Supercoach fortunes on the up!
nice
G'day Community,
Who is a better option, L Franklin, D Martin or D Smith?
Cheers
I've got Martin, probably trading in Franklin for Bartel this week and considering Smith as an upgrade.
buddy
Probably Buddy or Martin for me. Devon Smith looking just short of those two.
Martin Is currently the better scorer of the three, but you just get the feeling that Buddy is going to go berserk sometime in the next 3 to 4 weeks. I too am agonising over which of these two to bring in. Currently have Franklin in, but will probably change at least ten times between now and tomorrow.
Buddy & Dusty are top 6 forwards for mine. Get them in first
Nice work as always Barron,
I'm going VC on ward (due for a big one) into Sloan as C
Good stuff, Stevie.
Hey Community. I need your thoughts. Should I go Goodes > Nathan Van Berlo or Sinclair + 100k (or any other suggestions). He has to go this week and I could go Krakouer but I think it would b sensible to do that next week. Cheers Boyz
Possibly Goodes to Cripps. He hasnt risen in price and id back him to avererage 75+ up untill the byes.
I'm not huge on NVB's scoring potential, especially when compared to someone like Cripps like Jacob mentioned.
Thoughts on Moneychurch (WBD) …
You'd be reasonably happy if you started with him but probably not worth bringing in now that he's already made $35K.
Reckon Krakoeur and Tarrant present as much better cash generation candidates in the forward line at this point, although would wait for when these fellas are on the bubble next week if possible.
You have Freo and Sydney where Brisbane and West Coast should be for the heads up
Swan into Sloane for me
Same here Tulendeena.
Wouldnt be wasting the VC on Martin. Vince named on the ball along with Martin. Reckon we might see another score less than 60 from Dusty.
Perhaps but Vince could very easily go to Cotch too who was off the chain last weekend.
Possible, but Martin isn't as big of a clearance winner as Danger, so if they're looking to stop that area of the game they'd probably be more likely to have Vince line up on Miles or Edwards.
Dusty will belt him and he'll scurry off to Cotchin
Swan into Fyfe for me, although I think Parker is going to have a big one
Sounds like a plan, dognino. Hoping Parker can have a big one, he hasn't been the greatest pick so far!
Great article Barron, tossing up between Heppel and Watson to be replace Wines, Mid premos I have are Sloane,Fyfe,Beams,Parker,Wines,J Selwood.
I'd probably take Watson over Heppell at this stage.
Nothing wrong with Heppell, solid pick and could still overtake Jobe this year. Plus I don't see Jobe playing a full season, Heppell more durable
Nice work Barron.
Hope Swan can get enough of the pill to punch out another big score but Fyfe vc into Sloane C for mine.
Cant believe Rock Lobster is back already. Regretting hitting the trade button on him now.
I reckon it'll take a big effort to recreate what Swan did last year, but he's capable. Fyfe into Sloane is still a great selection.
Rocky will be a tough one. Reckon he might be a bit slow out of the gates from here, so he could still lose a ton of value, meaning getting rid of him saved you from bleeding a lot of cash.
pull the trigger on wallis to krakouer this week or wait til next?
I'd certainly wait especially as you can use Wallis for loophole purposes given that the Doggies play last in the round this weekend.
I'm waiting 1 more week, Sean.
Beautiful as always BVC. I'm hoping rocky's selection doesn't harm beams. Considering he had an average round 2 game without rocky i believe it is just taking beams some time to settle in the lions lineup. Swan into sloane for me too, hard to resist that combo for this week.
Yea, I reckon it's just a case of Beams taking a bit to settle too. He played at Collingwood with a heap of other mids who scored well, so I reckon he can keep up a good pace from here.
I'm tipping Rocky will be a late out. Can't believe he can get back this quickly.
If he does there's every chance he'll bust those ribs again.
Beams just struggling a bit with the tag, don't think was watched as close last week. Having Rocky will either help or do nothing, but don't think will hinder
The VC is going on Dane Swan this week.
He absolutely loves playing the bombers, he is fit, he is confident, and he loves the "big stage". Its all set up for him. Dont let me down Swannie!!
Let's hope he has a good day out there!
That's all everyone has been saying this week but unfortunately Pies teams this year is rubbish and the dons have hit the ground running! Can't see him dominating with the lack of talent around him.
Selwood into Sloane is tempting.
Reckon Selwood is a very good pick this week. I have him as my Captain in my "B" team.
The complication Baron is that Selwood will only be halfway through his game when Sloane begins his. So I’d have to watch closely and make a call. Might just take the easier option and go swanny into Selwood. Selwood has a great record v North. Thanks for your work mate. I look forward to your Thursday night stuff.
what to do with Newness? Keep him or trade? and trade to who?
I'm holding him for now.
I’m holding him mate. Hoping he’ll develop into a D6 but I hear you. He needs to improve
if i wanted to get rid of Anderson is it too late to jump on either Lang, Gregson or sinclair as i already have the main mid rookies
Probably the last round you'd look at doing it I'd say. Gregson and Sinclair are only a 30K odd jump from Anderson.
cheers Barren who out of those 2 do you think has the better JS
Get on Gregson, looked very classy last week. And the Cats are giving the kids more than two games in a row, it seems.
I'd just go down to Krakouer. Not ideal trading in someone after one game but should generate more cash than the others whilst giving you a DPP link
G'day all,
Looking at trading in a defender by swinging in to wines spot.
Out of Rance, Smith and Hodge who is the number 1?
Cheers.
Probably Rance or Smith. Hodge will likely sit in his normal 90-95 average for the year, so I wouldn't be jumping on him after 1 fantastic game.
Smith 100%.
I have got to get rid of BARTEL, WINES, YARRAN and 400K in the bank.
Thinking Bartel and Wines coz they are injured and out for longer.
BARTEL > SWAN is done
The other options are
WINES > Franklin, Bonts, Watson, Hodge
YARRAN > Hodge, Shaw, McDonald
With only Goodes to cover on bench I am thinking of getting Hodge/Shaw before price rises and that way I have Cripps/Miller to cover Wines. Also Hanging onto Wines 1 more week allows another week for Pendles/JPK/Beams/Danger to drop in price.
SWAN for Bartell is a lock. Am leaning towards YARRAN for a def prem.
Whats the go???????????
Hi sprinkler.
Loving Bartel to Swan.
If your midfield is weakish, go Wines to Watson. If your forward line is weakish go Wines to Franklin. Whichever is more urgent.
Use Yarran for the captain loophole. He will get a 3 week holiday and will be back refreshed with a huge motivation to win back respect.
Just my take mate.
Hope it helps.
Cheers
His midfield looks solid with Cripps as backup, Carlton have a good draw coming up so back the kid in. Fix up your backline and obviously get Swan.
Yarran to Shaw mate
Who is the better pick out of bontempeli and Taylor Adams? slightly concerned about the bigger teams shutting down the bont. Thanks
Bont on current form, but he'll come back down to earth a bit most likely. Very likely they could end up within a 5-8 point range of each other by the end of the year.
I’ve got godly and mummy and TBC in fwds
Thinking trading out mummy, go Grundy or Blicavs ? Or Swing TBC in and get BONT ??
I like Grundy, but he could be in for a down period if Bucks decides to bring in Witts as 2nd ruck.
I am somehow ranked 73rd overall, and I've had Ricky Henderson in my team each week… I know. And the only trade I've done is bring in the non-playing Bont last week… I know.
Thinking of the sideways trade Hendo -> Hunt. I figure Hunt has more potential in his new role at Richmond. Hendo was a very speculative POD which has turned out a bit poo. Pull the trigger?
I hate telling you what to do, since you're like, waaaaaaaaaaaayyy ahead of me. If you get rid of Henderson then go straight to a premium if possible. Smith or Shaw if you haven't got one, season long keepers
Unsure what to do??
Option 1:
Bartel to Gray
Goodes to Hooker or Birchell
Option 2:
Bartel to Bontempelli
Goodes to either gibson,hodge,b.smith
thoughts community?
Option One with Birchall seems decent to me. Nothing wrong with Option Two and B.Smith either. Go with your gut
If you have Krakour in mids (or any other fwd swing) you could do trade Bartel to hodge then swing hodge to defence via Saad
now youve got me thinking… but yeah if i gte gray i simply dont have the money to get hodge or b.smith
Probably not the time to get Gray as he's likely to go down a bit more if he has another dud game, so my preference would be for option 2.
very true he most likley will go down a bit but if not now im thinking once he gets on a roll again and its time to trade rookies and upgrade he'll be even more expensive! and is bont a risk with a possibly calf problem lingering?
Tasty breakdown as always, Barron.
Going Pendles into Sloane Ranger. Endless has to be due for a 130+ score, right?
Cheers, Throtts.
You reckon he would be, perfect time for him to have a big one too.
Freakin' autocorrect. Meant "Pendles" that I'm glad you saw.
Unless autocorrect is trying to tell me something. Maybe Pendles string of sub 130 games will be, gulp, "endless." To that I say https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8MSbgMkMRM
Anyone thinking of bringing in A.Saad – St Kilda – Fwd @ $182,200 – BE minus 32 for Lamb ,Lambert or McGrath, – has VG JS ?
Do you have all 3 of those rookies? You must have built your house on an indian burial ground
I usually avoid Saad, he hasn't shown to be the greatest scorer going by his previous form.
That's Saad.
Guys, i have sauce jacobs – do i trade him?
I have nic nat as my second
You could sideways to Goldstein, but I'd look to hold him another week. He scored 141 against Collingwood @ Etihad and he's potentially playing a Minson-less Bulldogs on the same deck this week.
He only had 6 disposals last week, but it was bucketing down at AO, so that's not the best conditions for him and with the new ruck rules it looks like that's the key to putting up good scores for ruckmen since he had 55 last week, which didn't seem to have a big impact on his score. I'd look for him to hopefully get back up to that 16 possession, 6-7 mark and 30 hitout range this week and hope he scores another decent score.
With Swan as VC, who would be the better choice for captain out of Fyfe or Lewis?
Toss a coin with that one probably. I'd go for Fyfe myself.
Fyfe,
Wines to Mundy or Selwood?
Selwood for me.
Selwood. Mundy has a couple big games each year but always ends up around 100-105. Selwood will be 115+ again
I'd duck out of that one.
Mummy to Goldy?
Mummy cant perform with these stinking new ruck system 🙁
Sounds good to me. I brought Goldy in last week and it was the best decision I made. Seems to be the only ruckman capable of consistently scoring 100 or close to it.
Good Evening Community
Tossing around potential trade options. Malcevski causing me no end of headaches. Would love to keep him but with a break even of 192 don't know I can justify keeping him and losing another $50k. Which of the following trades would you recommend?
1) Malcevski – Smith/Birch (already have Burgoyne) or Rance.
2) Deledio – Swan , Hodge, Neale or anyone else
3) Goodes – Hunt or Talia
Smith and Swan without hesitation.
Thanks Sarah. That’s the way I was thinking too. Only concern is McGrath is out injured and whether I trade him or Lamb out for Young or Krak from Port and leave the Deledio trade for another week or use Lonie as a playing emergency instead.
If you can get away without a playing emergency this week, trade McGrath for Krakouer next week. Those two boys won't change price this week whereas Swan and Smith should both go up. I wouldn't hesitate to do those trades this week. If everyone on field is playing then you don't need an emergency anyway.
Will the Bont end up as top 6 FWD?
With over 300K of coin and Bartel to replace thinking of options.
Bartel to Bont and Lamb to Dusty
or
Bartel to Sloane (and losing DPP link)
It's extremely unlikely that a second year player will be in the top six of anything and yet not impossible.
Likely to finish in the group just behind the top echelon of forwards (Gray, Bartel, Swan, Franklin, Goddard, Martin), in amongst a large group of others (Smith, Roughead, Harvey, Dalhaus, Rioli, Deledio, Bennell, etc) in my opinion.
He is about $70K cheaper than those other though, so if he can end up with a 95+ average he’ll be value.
The question for me is who we put on the field between Heeney, Vandenberg and CEY?
To clarify I need to leave one on the bench this week.
Do u have a non playing mid ie wines, Wallis?
Heeney and CEY,they have both scored consistently well, Vandy has scored well at times but seems to be a touch more inconsistent.
I agree although the Freo midfield could really do a job on young Heeney.
Anybody have any advice on what I should do with lids? I was thinking trading out him and luenburger and getting in goldy and maybe krakouer in the foward line
Captains loopholes are for the brave (well VC at least anyway). Griffen to Selwood for me
Griffen into Selwood I should say
Im with you Phil, supercoach isn't won by playing safe, im slapping the VC on griffen too, with no taggers in the GC side and predicted mudbath GWS midfield could go large!
Am I crazy trading Simpson for Oxley..
Yes Matt yes you are. Kade is bound ta hurt you if you let him go stick with ya premos at least for a bit longer. I to am frustrated with kade but ya gotta give him another chabce i reckon
If you mean Kade Simpson, then yes.
Trying to free up cash.. Got shaw Simpson newnes murphy saad Macintosh down back…
Want to upgrade Bellchambers to goldy…
Other option is downgrading Parker .. But I fricken love him..
Midfield is Fyfe pendles Lewis Parker jpk and rookies..
Forwards are dusty Gray swan Clark Salem hogan…
Ideas ??????
Find another way to free up cash. You obviously started with Kade aiming to be a keeper for the whole year. Same as the last four years (Higgo’s stat sheet), he’ll give you a 95 avg over 21-22 games. If you can’t free up cash a different way then let the Oxley train roll by
Only in a DIRE emergency would I trade Newnes to Oxley……but I still see it all as wasted trades
Yeh it's not so much the Oxley factor. Want to upgrade tbc.. Have 200k in bank
Short answer YES, long answer NO with a but!!
Cheers barron, ya goin in the moneyball again this weekend? Unlucky with the bonters selection last week i see it hurt jock n yourself substantialy. I finished 5th 30pts out of the money but will def have another crack this weekend. Back 2 SC unfortunately i have Jaden Mcgrath and Kane Lambert on my bench and am wondering if its word bringing in Ahmed Saad as cover hes already gone up 40k but has around 70k left to make feel i need at leasr 1 playing player on my forward bench and bring in Krak on the bubble next week. Any input would be much appreciated.
Im also currently ranked 857 overall and 24th in queensland burnt 3 trades and had no injuries out of last week. Just spud scores from JPK n Robbie Gray
Fyfe into Sloane couldnt ask for anything more
Think Selwood has a great record against North.
What to do with mummy? Hold and forget about the $$ he’s losing, straight swap to Goldie, downgrade to someone like Grundy and take the $$?
Has anyone considered all the rain this week could cause havoc … I have Bartel and was going to bring in Buddy but he will slipping and sliding everywhere. I dont think I will make swan vice anymore either because he went huge when anzac day was dry and goldstien will be slipping around simmonds. Thinking of bringing in goddard, and a cheeky VC on someone different like Luke Parker. Any thoughts who is best in the wet??
The Swans are playing Freo in Perth this round.
No sign of rain here, and none forecast for Saturday night.
is it time to off load Newnes?
and is it worth getting hodge
Listen to the community pod – Jock answered these questions specifically.
Would community members recommend that I jump off the Judd bag wagon before he potentially leaks cash?
Nice one Barron! Fantastic advice for captain choice each week.
Need help Community so many holes in my team!! I have two trades to make!!
With bloody Gray ruining lives and now pulling out last minute against the Hawks and not having any bench rookies playing in my forward line I need to create a swing.. So I am trading Wines for Swan in the mid then swinging K.Lambert into the mid for Swan fwd and putting Cripps into the starting line up in the mid and putting Lambert on the bench with Cockatoo as Emergency.
Who should I trade for Bartel in my Forward line??? I am thinking Dusty but I think he may get played on ball with Vince and score low… And then there is Franklin but he is playing the dockers so might have a quite game… Motlop/Bontempelli?? HELP!!!
i have no bench cover should i get a guy that will play instead of having a guy that dosent if so who?
