Barron Von Crow - inner sanctum“Lord, have mercy!” That’s what I imagine a host of Supercoachers were crying after the end of Round 1. What a disaster of a round it turned out to be, with injuries to the likes of Tom Rockliff, Steele Sidebottom and Luke Parker and Gary Ablett running around like the one-armed man from The Fugitive.

Not to mention the suspension of Brett Deledio and the poor scores from popular Supercoach players such as Joel Selwood, Dustin Martin, Ryan Griffen, Jack Newnes and Heriter Lumumba and the big ticket ruckmen all scoring like guys that cost 150K less than their original buying price.

But all is not lost people, and now is not the time to panic. You ever see those Jason Voorhees movies where there’s always some bozo that panics and makes a stupid, rash decision? And what happens to him? BAM, he gets himself into a world of trouble when some hockey mask wearing goon pops out with a machete. So take the horror movie advice and remember calm and rational thinking is required, not a panic induced, frenzied series of sideways/backways/frontways trades.

Captain’s picks were a bit his and miss last week, but there were still some quality scores put up, so hopefully if you didn’t pick a winner in Round 1, than Round 2 will be much more kinder to you. So let’s go take a look and see what the Round 2 matchups have in store for us.

Also, remember to look out for the red and green Supercoach scores, RED = bad, GREEN = good which may help you out when it comes to picking your captains for the week

captainCaptain Pick(s): Judd has the record while playing at Domain Stadium, averaging 126 over the 29 career games he’s played out west. The issue is it has been quite a while since he’s put up a useful score against his old side. Still, he looked to be moving pretty good last week, so there is a good chance he can continue that form into this game. Priddis is always a chance to go off, despite his poor score last week and Nic Nat might have gotten a bit more consideration going up against Cam Wood if last week hadn’t shown us rucks might be getting these big scores completely annihilated this year.

captainCaptain Pick(s): Some of the bigger ticket Richmond players struggled against Carlton last week, so you’d think guys like Cotchin and Martin would be able to bounce back against a younger Bulldogs side. Matthew Boyd has had some very good form against the Tigers in recent years and Marcus Bontempelli looked to be having the potential to be a very dangerous scorer for us in Supercoach. I’d still be likely to skip this game for picking any VC/C candidates, unless you want to take a big punt on Martin or Bonts.

captainCaptain Pick(s): Adam Treloar started off last year with a BANG and he looks like he’ll be doing the same again this year, although in 2014 he followed up his massive Round 1 score with a 74 in Round 2. Let’s hope he doesn’t repeat that effort here! Griffen copped a tag last week, so maybe Jack Viney will be looking to do the job here after his effort on Ablett last week. Mind you, both Treloar and Shiel (who scored 136 last week) could be targets too.

Key scores: Dayne Beams 159, Brodie Smith 144, Patrick Dangerfield 117, Scott Pendlebury 110

HotPatrick Dangerfield’s Round 1 score of 123 Supercoach Points is only the 3rd time he’s scored 100+ Supercoach Points in the 7 opening round games he’s played and was the highest score he’s ever had in his first AFL match of the year.

coldTravis Cloke’s streak of scoring below 100 Supercoach Points in the opening round of the season continued for its 10th year, with Cloke scoring 76 last week against Brisbane. He’ll also be coming up against the Adelaide Crows this week, who are the only side in the AFL Travis Cloke hasn’t scored 100+ Supercoach Points against in a game and the team he has his lowest Supercoach average against.

captainCaptain Pick(s): The Crows had 4 players in the Top 10 scorers for Round 1, with Walker (177 Supercoach Points), Eddie Betts (154 Supercoach Points), Rory Sloane (144 Supercoach Points) and Brodie Smith (144 Supercoach Points) all putting up massive scores against the Roos. It’ll take a big effort to match the pressure and intensity they showed against the Roos against the Pies though, and while I don’t think we’ll see 4 massive scores again, there is a chance for someone like Smith, Danger or Sloane to put up a good score. And for the Pies, we can never look past Scott Pendlebury, with Sidebottom out I suspect he and Swan may have to up their games just a tad to help out some of the younger midfielders the Pies will potentially be fielding. Some may go risk a VC on Walker, and while I don’t expect another massive score from him this week, he looked to be in very good touch, so anything is possible. If you feel your Captain selection is rock solid, it might pay off.

captainCaptain Pick(s): We’ve got a few guns from each side to take a look at from this game, with Robbie Gray and Ollie Wines from Port and JPK and Luke Parker from the Swans. Parker was looking like he’d put up a terrific score until he was KO’d by Lance Franklin in the 3rd quarter. He only played 84 minutes, but his PPM of 1.17 projected him to put up a score of about 140 had he played the entire game. That’s a quality return. JPK can’t be forgotten either as he had a very good score and I think more than a few owners of Tom Rockliff will be looking at moving him on for Kennedy. Robbie Gray is a total gun, and you’d feel pretty safe picking him here.

captainCaptain Pick(s): Selwood was poor last week, but the Cats were pretty much destroyed as an entire team, so it’s not a total surprise. He’s still quality and could put a good score here. Fyfe was a bit reckless last week, which curbed his scores somewhat, but he’s still a quality option to go for as well.

captainCaptain Pick(s): Tom Rockliff was sitting prime for a Captain slot for this game, but unfortunately he was injured in the game against Collingwood. Hard to recommend any North players after their game last week, although I would bet on them coming out like a house on fire this week. Dayne Beams is probably the best choice here, he’ll be looking to step up with Rockliff out of the picture.

perfect 9Perfect 9 Pick: Dayne Beams

BARRON VON CROWS CAPTAIN SELECTIONS:

I’ll stick fat with Nathan Fyfe as my Captain this week, while moving the VC over to Patrick Dangerfield. Gray and Parker are tempting me for a VC slot though.

And that’s it for the Supercoach Scouting Report this week. I hope your Round 2 is a lot better than your Round 1!

Great stuff Barron. Will stick the VC on Pendles and the C on Fyfe.

KOTD · 09/04/2015 at 21:08

Thinking Pendles into Selwood. But I feel dirty cheating on GAJ like this.

    BarronVonCrow · 09/04/2015 at 21:47

Don't feel too bad, KOTD. Gaz will forgive you, he is a Christian after all.

Jacko · 09/04/2015 at 21:12

Ellis yolman, vandenberg, heeney

What two start on field

    Frank · 09/04/2015 at 21:24

that order seems ok. Port a tough opponent for Heeney game 2.

leon · 09/04/2015 at 21:17

Thinking gray into fyfe… like others feel dirty doing this to gaz

Paul · 09/04/2015 at 21:26

Anyone know if tbc will be a late withdrawal?

    Linford Shulman · 09/04/2015 at 21:31

    It looks very possible

      Paul · 09/04/2015 at 21:37

Why is that? And should I trade him out?

        BarronVonCrow · 09/04/2015 at 21:46

Shaun McKernan has been upgraded from the rookie list and Bellchambers was supposed to have had fluid drained from his knee after the game on the weekend.

          Paul · 09/04/2015 at 21:48

I have no ruck cover, if he pulls out should I trade to Berger?

          Girdle · 10/04/2015 at 01:47

You got a source for that, Barron? I haven’t been able to find anything to confirm

@TylerCArmstrong · 09/04/2015 at 21:26

Beautiful stuff yet again Barron. Which 2 would you start out of Cripps, Heeney, Vandenberg, Ellis-Yolmen and Miller? Really not sure.

    BarronVonCrow · 09/04/2015 at 21:46

I'll likely be starting Ellis-Yolmen and Vandenberg this week.

      @TylerCArmstrong · 09/04/2015 at 22:46

Why not Heeney? was great last week.

      jacob · 09/04/2015 at 23:19

I’m worried that vanderberg will get the vest. Melbournes two big vest candidates, toumpas and JKH are both out of the side this week.

        demon · 10/04/2015 at 00:44

        brayshaw, vandenberg, newton most likely
I'm thinking it could be brayshaw

    Soothsayer · 09/04/2015 at 22:48

Im starting Heeney, Ellis-Yolmen and Vandenberg

      Keg · 10/04/2015 at 13:39

      Same

Derek · 09/04/2015 at 21:39

I’m saving my trades to pick up fallen premiums later

luke · 09/04/2015 at 22:01

when do the players price start to change
end of round 2 or end of 3

    Tulendeena · 09/04/2015 at 22:08

On the conclusion of round 3

dognino · 09/04/2015 at 23:02

Don't have the luxury of loop holing the C this week, so it's a toss up between pendles, GAJ , gray and Parker . Think I'm gonna roll the dice on Parker seeing as he tonned up by 3/4 time last week .

    jacob · 09/04/2015 at 23:19

    Do you have cox?

      dognino · 09/04/2015 at 23:32

Yep, needed the cash at the time, but then by the time my final team was settled I didn't need it,lol

        Rawkus11 · 10/04/2015 at 10:52

So you have all 30 playing this week?

          dognino · 10/04/2015 at 18:35

No, 28 playing. But my donuts are lamb, plays tonight and cox, plays early Saturday before all of my guns.

Actually seeing as I can't use it on any one else I might put the VC on Nic Nat . Not that I expect him to pump out a huge one, but I can't use it on anyone else.

Nick · 10/04/2015 at 09:26

Salem or Lambert guys as my starting forward??

Conor · 10/04/2015 at 10:23

Luke Parker got injured???? Can someone tell me what he injured, I had no idea this happened?

David · 10/04/2015 at 10:30

Im planning for late withdrawls of Bartel & Parker this week. If TBC pulls out late im stuffed and will need to do a snap trade on him but he plays bloody Sunday. Hopefully the footy clubs involved have a level of respect to name TBC, Parker and Bartel either playing or not playing before game day!!

Colin · 10/04/2015 at 11:44

Im putting the VC on Griffin because his vs Melbourne and the C on Fyfe

Hazza_08 · 10/04/2015 at 12:31

Thoughts on Maric > Nic nat and wait a week to go cockatoo > Van berlo/braysh/newton. Thanks community

    Keg · 10/04/2015 at 14:02

Too much of a sideways move. If you’re determined to offload maric (which I don’t think you should do yet) you’re better off to go all out and grab leuenberger. That way you can use that $200k odd to upgrade cockatoo to rich, or if you can afford them- Swan or bontompelli.
In effect, you’re lookibg at swapping one keeper for another potential keeper and not overly improving the other position.

Keg · 10/04/2015 at 13:47

I’m going to put the vc on martin. Feel like I’m putting them out there, but with 28 players starting, he’s the only premium I have that I can loophole. Could pay off, I hope he doesn’t repeat last week’s effort.

    Motsy · 12/04/2015 at 01:37

    Congrats 😉

brad · 12/04/2015 at 12:10
