Round 1 Supercoach Scouting Report
Footy’s back! I’ve been so bloody excited it’s Round 1 I often find myself running around the house, wooing like Ric Flair because I’m so happy that the football has returned to us.
Pre-season felt like it was never going to end, but we got through it all and here we are with the real stuff ready to be played. Howdy folks, Barron Von Crow here and I am extremely excited to be bringing you our first Supercoach Scouting Report for 2015!
For those of you who are new to Supercoach (or new to the Jock Reynolds Community…what took you so long?!), the idea here is simple: I look at the historical scores and averages when the teams play each other and see if we can use that information to determine who the best picks are for our Supercoach Captains.
But we’re always looking to get bigger and better here at Jock Reynolds, so we’ve included a few extra little pieces for 2015.
First up, you’ll now see the following symbols scattered about for each game, which can be broken down to the following.
Simple, yes? This will provide information on who’s hot and who’s not in Supercoach over the past few games and will hopefully allow us to better pick our squads and our Captains.
Also, with the introduction of the Perfect 9 game, I’ll also be giving you my weekly pick there. For those of you unfamiliar with the new Perfect 9 game, it’s simple. All you need to do is pick which player you think will score the most points for each game. Nail all 9 games and you win a big cash prize!
And as always, remember to look out for the red and green Supercoach scores, RED = bad, GREEN = good which may help you out when it comes to picking your captains for the week.
The good news for Round 1 and Tom Read owners if because the Hawks VS Geelong clash is on the Monday, that’ll leave us quite a few games to sit on the VC loophole option, so we should be able to pick a winner this week.
Alright, let’s get going!

RICHMOND v CARLTON
Last time they met: Round 2, 2014: Carlton LOST TO Richmond 86-98
Key scores: Marc Murphy 121, Matt Thomas/Robert Warnock 118, Chris Yarran/Dustin Martin 108, Shaun Hampson 107.
Dustin Martin is in fine form heading into Round 1, with a NAB Challenge average of 130 Supercoach Points. He’ll need it however; as Carlton is the side he averages the lowest amount of Supercoach Points against.
After setting Supercoach on fire in Round 1 last year, Matt Thomas failed to play a single NAB Challenge game for the Tigers and remains on the rookie list.
Key players:

Brett Deledio Price – $553,300 – Avg N/A – BE 103 Last 3 VS Carlton: Rd 2, 2014: 92, Rd 21, 2013: 143, Rd 1, 2013: 116 Total VS Carlton Averages: 16 games, 97.8 Supercoach Points, High Score of 143 @ MCG Averages: 101.6 Supercoach Points, High Score of 172Dustin Martin Price – $534,900 – Avg N/A – BE 100 Last 3 VS Carlton: Rd 2, 2014: 108, Rd 21, 2013: 25, Rd 1, 2013: 85 Total VS Carlton Averages: 9 games, 75.6 Supercoach Points, High Score of 108 @ MCG Averages: 89.2 Supercoach Points, High Score of 148

Captain Pick(s): First game of the year and it’s probably not the best one historically for picking your Supercoach Captain from. Judd has the career runs on the board against the Tigers, but hasn’t set them on fire in recent years. Martin has usually struggled against the Blues, so that probably leaves Murphy or Deledio as the picks here.
 Perfect 9 Pick: Chris Judd

 MELBOURNE v GOLD COAST
Last time they met: Round 5, 2014: Melbourne LOST TO Gold Coast 78-86
Key scores: Gary Ablett 161, Nathan Jones 140, Chris Dawes 110, Greg Broughton 108
It looks like Melbourne is agreeing with Heritier Lumumba, who averaged 120 Supercoach Points over the NAB Challenge.
Only 1 Gold Coast Suns player averaged over 100 Supercoach Points in the NAB Challenge, which was Harley Bennell with an average of 104 Supercoach Points.

Captain Pick(s): It all depends on Ablett and what condition he’s in, and despite 2 big games out of his last 3 against Melbourne; he has his 3rd lowest career average against the Dee’s. Rumours abound that Ablett will be subbed out during the game, a move which would make some sense, so if you find yourself with a dearth of other options you could put the VC on Ablett, though I’d likely skip him as Captain this week. You also couldn’t be blamed if you decided to slap a VC on Harley Bennell, who hasn’t had any troubles racking up quality scores against the Demons in recent games. Nathan Jones is always a quality option and put up a very good score last time these two played as well.
 Perfect 9 Pick: Nathan Jones

 SYDNEY v ESSENDON
Last time they met: Round 19, 2014: Sydney DEFEATED Essendon 79-57
Key scores: Mike Pyke 134, Ben McGlynn 130, Luke Parker 129, Michael Hurley 124
Luke Parker and Josh P Kennedy are looking like they’ll be neck and neck in Supercoach this year, both players averaging 114 Supercoach Points over the NAB Challenge.
The entire Essendon team struggled to score points in the NAB Challenge, with the highest averages being 89 from Brendon Goddard and James Gwilt. Shouldn’t be as much of a problem now that the real players are back.

Captain Pick(s): Franklin averages a massive 127 Supercoach Points against the Bombers and could be an excellent VC pick to use this week, although he’s never even scored a ton in the 4 career games he’s played at ANZ Stadium, which could be a bit worrisome. I might hold off on hitting any Essendon players with a VC/C as the majority sat out the NAB pre-season games, so they might take some time to heat peak form. JPK is another rock solid option to look at as well.

Key scores: Dayne Zorko 162, Pearce Hanley 149, Jed Adcock 139, Tom Rockliff 137
Dayne Beams just edged out Tom Rockliff for the highest NAB Challenge average at the Lions, averaging 104 Supercoach Points.
Obviously taking it easy, but Dane Swan only averaged 75 Supercoach Points during the NAB Challenge.

Captain Pick(s): Very interesting game to pick from, there is a lot of quality on offer here, with a number of Lions players putting up massive scores last time these two teams met. Dayne Beams very first AFL game for the Lions will be against his old side in Collingwood, though in his 3 games at the Gabba, Beams has a high score of 103 and an average of 72. I think most will look at Pendlebury here for the VC, which you certainly can’t argue against, and there’s even a chance someone like Swan, Rockliff, Beams or Zorko get off the chain too.

Key scores: Mark LeCras 144, Matthew Rosa 128, Bob Murphy 118, Dean Cox 115
Both Jack Macrae and Mitch Wallis look to have stepped up in the absence of Tom Liberatore, averaging 120 and 106 Supercoach Points over the NAB Challenge.
Still returning from back issues, Nic Naitanui only played the 1 NAB Challenge game, for a score of 66 Supercoach Points.

Captain Pick(s): Reckon this might be the game we look to skip this week, although Priddis is a Brownlow winner for a reason. Nit Nat’s previous scores against the Bullies would be worrisome, especially with him dealing with potential back issues.

Captain Pick(s): Last time these two teams played Mumford tuned up the young Saints ruckmen to the tune of 46 hitouts and 158 Supercoach Points. Reckon he has a massive chance to put up that kind of score again, so if you have him in your side, I wouldn’t be hesitating to take advantage of him this week. I could also imagine a mid like Griffen or Ward getting one up on the young Saints midfield as well, so they could be VC candidates for you too.

Last time they met: Round 22, 2014: Adelaide LOST TO North Melbourne 94-101
Key scores: Jack Ziebell145, Ryan Bastinac 127, Drew Petrie 112, Rory Sloane 111
Patrick Dangerfield averaged 122 over his 2 NAB Challenge Games. Hopefully this means he can avoid the slow starts he usually has over the first month of AFL football.
Brodie Smith only averaged 62 Supercoach Points over his 2 NAB Challenge games, well down on the 94 he averaged for 2014.

Captain Pick(s): Waite and/or Petrie look to potentially be the smokie picks here. With the retirement of Ben Rutten the Crows have struggled in the pre-season with the 2nd tall forward. In the pre-season games Talia stood on the likes of Petrie, Hawkins and Schulz and had 4 goals kicked on him by those 3 players while the Kyle Hartigan/Kyle Cheney combo took on Waite, Clark and Butcher and had 14 goals kicked on them, so there’s a potential for someone to kick a bag here and score some big points. Probably only worth a shot if you want to take a big chance however, otherwise you could slot in the likes of Sloane, Dangerfield, Dal Santo or Swallow. Jacobs and Goldstein tend to battle to a draw in this sort of games, they’re both good enough that neither one can gain a real advantage over the other.
 Perfect 9 Pick: Rory Sloane

Key scores:Â Nathan Fyfe 156, Ollie Wines 123, Chad Wingard 122, Stephen Hill/Robbie Gray 121
Nathan Fyfe averaged 134 Supercoach Points off of only an average of 76% TOG during his 2 NAB Challenge games. He looks to be in prime form heading into Round 1.
Not much NAB Challenge action from Michael Barlow, who only played in Freo’s first game, scoring 48 Supercoach Points off of 84% TOG.

Captain Pick(s): I’m sure Boak will be happy to see Crowley not out on the field, with the tagger restricting him massively over their last few games, though he could have a De Boer or Pearce headed his way. It’ll be double good news for owners of Robbie Gray too, who has put up some good scores against Freo. The man to pick however is Nathan Fyfe who scored a massive 156 Supercoach Points in the Dockers Semi Final loss to the Power in the Finals last year the last time these teams faced each other. If you don’t have Fyfe, then Gray is a nice backup option to consider.
 Perfect 9 Pick: Nathan Fyfe

HAWTHORN v GEELONG
Last time they met: Qualifying Final, 2014: Hawthorn DEFEATED Geelong 104-68
Key scores: Joel Selwood 151, Sam Mitchell 137, Isaac Smith 112, Josh Gibson 111
Jordan Lewis looked to continue his terrific form of the 2nd half of 2014, averaging 125 Supercoach Points over the NAB Challenge.
Much was hoped for from Sam Blease when Geelong recruited him, but he only managed to play the 2nd NAB Challenge game and scored 48 Supercoach Points.

Captain Pick(s): The Cats have done a decent effort in recent games in keeping some of the Hawks players from getting off the chain. Selwood looks to be the biggest pick here, a score of 151 in their Finals game last year. He’ll hopefully bust out of the gates with another terrific score like that, rather than the anaemic scores of 90 and 83 he put up last year.
 Perfect 9 Pick: Joel Selwood
BARRON VON CROW’S CAPTAIN PICK:
Although I do have Ablett, I’ll be skipping him for Round 1 and going with Pendlebury as my VC and Nathan Fyfe as my Captain.
And that’s it for Round 1! Hopefully we’ve helped you pick a great Captain pick for this week and your Supercoach Season starts off with a bang!
will we still have 30 trades after the lockout?
Yes
Don't we still have unlimited?
yes
Great read thanks mate,
And just wondering do you know when the subs in each game are announced
Usually a couple of hours before each game.
Thanks just not sure whether to whack macintosh on field or not
Smith sub for blues Gordon for tigers
Best mid under 585k?
Parker or Dangerfield IMO
parker
Get another $3k and grab Lewis.
Absolute Boss Baron good ish mate,
Also from a fellow crow, how can we expect hendo to travel this year?
Im starting to get nervous….
I reckon he should be OK. Looked solid against Port, hopefully he can continue to build on that if he's named for Round 1.
Thoughts on thumper (Kolodjashnij)
In my team. Hoping he can average a solid 85 for the year.
Looked good pre-season. Not massive ceiling but should be steady points I reckon. Got the tank to run the wing all day. He's in the mix for me…. i'm being swayed by potential fools gold in Higgins & Lumumba
Clem Smith cops the vest tonight so that rules him out from any consideration for me particularly with Heeney, Vandenberg and Miller now likely to play.
No last minute call up for Lambert either as some were hoping or expecting so I'll be looking elsewhere for my forward bench too.
Great stuff Baron appreciate the effort that must have went into this pulling up some of those stats….
I'm signed up for Perfect 9 this year so this article should come in handy
Yea, it's an fun little addition to do each week, isn't it.
Thumper heart or henderson
Sorry was meant to be geary not heart
All really excellent speculative midpricers but I likely Geary and Ibbo the best in the $300-400K defender category myself.
Hey BVC
Nice break down my man.. Thank you for all your efforts for the community this year. See you in Jock Leagues mate
See you there, Dools!
What do people think about Wallis as a M5?
A little risky even for a midpricer. Prefer the proven premium ceiling of a Wells at that price range for mine.
thoughts on smith or should i change for someone else?
Lamb or Lonie
im going lamb
Lamb
bontempelli vs bellchambers ????
the bont may be a keeper
but Bellchambers is ruck cover and cash generation, so TBC for me
Bellchambers. As long as he plays in your forward line. With his ruc/forward dual position option, he can cover your rucs should one get injured/suspended or dropped. Remember, you only have one ruc bench this season. Peace of mind having Bellchambers as back up is super important IMO. He is in my team.
Bontempelli is a gun player, but there is a lot of speculation he will get tagged this season, thus potentially impacting his scoring ability.
anyone have a league that has a free spot?
Posted number below mate
should we keep kane lambert in?
yeah i think so
I had him until he was not named for the Tigers against Carlton. I need my benchplayers on the park and generating cash. You cannot have idle players on your bench IMO. Replaced Lambert with Tom Lamb. If Lambert is named in the next few weeks, I can watch him for another 2 weeks (before his price rise) and then use one trade to get him in if he performs.
What the code for the jock reynolds group
Posted num below mate
Team feedback please:
Def: shaw gibson newnes geary goodes mcintosh. hamling saad
Mid: gaj fyfe selwood Lewis griffen Cripps heeney ell yolman. Anderson lambert miller
Ruck: goldy nicnat. O’Reilly
Fwd: gray Bartel Martin Salem Clark hogan. Lonie lamb
Good side.
Bit concerned about Ablett. That shoulder injury he copped last season was very serious. No NAB Challenge appearances but was named to play against the Dees. (He might play forward pocket to ease him back in) Despite being an absolute champion and he is ALWAYS in my team, I left him out in favour for Tom Rockliff for the start of this season. Rockliff is 100% fit and will be my captain this week. If you pick Ablett I assume you would likely make him captain. If he is underdone and his score is down you will cop a "double whammy" by your captain score being hammered as well. Just playing the percentages. If he does kick arse, he will be back in my side in no time, hopefully slightly cheaper!
Lastly, guys to look at are Tom Bellchambers (Forward as a ruc back up), and Vandenberg (Rookie midfielder)
thoughts on watson
Lumumba, Yes or No
im saying no
Big yes dpp helps
Need help on deciding 2 players; Boak, Wines, Sloane or Parker?
boak, parker
Sloane. Super consistent and scored 100+ SC points in most games played in 2014
GEARY OR IBBO URGENT
Ibbotson. He will have excellent job security at Freo. (Doubts over the fitness over some of the other freo defenders)
Is it too risky to put TBC in R2 with no cover?
If I abuse a swingset with this it essentially allows me to turn Anderson in to Dangerfield by turning Minson in to TBC and dropping 70k from the warchest. It feels so right, but so wrong.
I think it's right. Just looking at the ruck scores tonight, I think the scoring gap between premos and 2nd tier rucks will narrow. I swapped Maric to TBC last night and was able to bring Judd in as M6.
Who do I start on field
Saad or McIntosh
Miller, Vandenberg, Heeney?
McIntosh and Heeney, they are who I’ve gone with
Flip a coin with Saad and McIntosh, McIntosh looked slightly better in NAB
McIntosh.
Too late?
Anybody else having browser security issues when trying to login the SC?
YES
Henderson or goodes?
goodes
goodes sub risk? named 4th on bench..
not always an indication, but would prefer he was named on the park
he'll get a game.
Henderson. I reckon he will average 75-85.
He will play
Feel free to join league num: 994439 or 903387. Plz only join 1 of them thx
I’ve joined the 903387 league mate, hope that’s ok
Thks mate I have joined 994439
Tks mate, joined 994439
Oxley or Hamling at D8?
Ox
oxley, he's listed to play, hamling is not. that's what i'm doing anyway.
Oxley, named on field and will get a lot of action down back for pies
Brown or hamling? Ive already got oxley
Final thoughts on Juddy? Currently have Scooter Selwood instead of him. 20 minutes to go already doubting the selection >_<
judd, cross your fingers but both have injury history
Mate I have everything crossed at the moment.
Scott Selwood could be reasonable m8 and definitely value if over injury. Looked like he is from nab 3. POD as well. Like it.
Thomas Downie named on extended bench…
one question people…. lids or martin, 14 mins left
More people have Martin than Lids. Martin might be a safer option, but Lids is a slight POD.
stick with lambert (richmond) or drop him for Lamb (eagles) ?
Im sticking with Lambert, Im convinced hes gonna make good cashola. Go with your gut!
thanks mate, just needed a little reassurance to stick with him!
Starting to question Goodes job security.
I reckon you are right. So may teams posted on here had him at D4 or D5. Their worst fears may come true – the best alternative might turn out to be Gary Rohan!!
Or Zac Dawson
Biggs, Hrovat, Hamling, Darley, Clay Smith, Caleb Daniel are all players they will want to get games into soon enough.
Goodes has been named, at this stage I wouldn't be stressing im sure he will play…
Are we still able to change our players around each round prior to each game starting?
In round 1 can we trade in/out players who haven't played yet without wasting trades?
yes, it will not count towards your 30
Looking for a mid & defensive rookie (totalling under $242,500 and likely to play.
I already have-
Def – McIntosh, Saad & Oxley
Fwd – Salem, Clark, Saad, Lamb
Appreciate your help, thanks.
Based on who has been named for round 1, I don't think it is possible. the only other cheap def named is Brown at 146,900. Which means, even if you select him, you will need to find some cash elsewhere.
On that note is it a better move trading Goodes out for Brown now and putting 100k in the bank based on the fact Goodes is benched?
Jed Bews. Also beauty is he’s last game, so good fallback.
hamling
I put mcintosh as bloody emergency! the blokes absolutely ripping it up
No Robinson Crusoe there Jack!
If you put a non scoring player on the field you will get his 120 score (:
need urgent help
dom sheed + gray or
beams + forward emergency
sheed and gray will start on ground while beams will start on ground with salem, clark and hogan
Very happy that my superior analysis skills and game knowledge stopped me from getting DeLidio or Daisy. LOL at those who thought that they were being clever by selecting them.
deledio playing ok and daisy will be highest scorer in points per minute category. did well to analyse a report and an injury though…
3 weeks on the sidelines is nice though aint it?
Would appreciate if you could pass on this weeks tattslotto numbers Wombat.
Do your own lotto research CJay I'm too busy polishing trophys. Simple observation showed that DeLidio wouldn't play 20 games but I didn't expect to be proven right so quickly.
nice call Wombles, I too made that superior sc decision
Well done Skinny I reckon all of the superstars like you, me, Dools, TWoof would have avoided both Dusty & Lids. Pretty sure Dools also had Vlastuin, Kamdyn and Docherty onfield down back.
Oooops, got Dusty Wom's!!! im telling myself he'll come good???
lids cost me bad, put the vc on him as well FML
Womby you back mate and the post was not removed ……..
Hiya Dools yeah it appears intellect was banned for a while.
Lids Subbed off This is like Fridge to Fridge stuff excellent
LOLOLOL only one game so far . But its true, some people think they are better then others. I dont think Im better then anyone . Actually Im probably worse at this then others. But every year I come back to play again. else. Carry on polishing ur virtual trophys
Keep Freeman or not?
Trade him. If there was any chance of him being picked, this round was it. I reckon he will be a potential downgrade later on. I think that the Pies might be looking to get some VFL games into him before picking him.
Dusty Martin 46% – 52% DE – Played well where? He was In defence for one play The rest of the time I was looking at me D5 MCINTOSH …. NAB rising star This Round!!! Broke 100 with 3 mins left.
The Blues are poor 3 players can play at this level – Gibbs , Simpson and Judd.
Had Macca at D6, given me inspiration to downgrade Goodes who was at 5 , and run two rookies on field. I reckon Macca has cemented his spot in that team with his game tonight.
Will you run Oxley or Brown on the field, or Saad if he avoids the snot vest? They are the only 3 choices aren't they?
I was thinking saad on field. Depends whether he avoids the vest. Otherwise brown, just because of his nab scores. First couple of weeks will be tough getting the right rookie on field I guess
Gibbs? really? thought he was rather ordinary..
Mcintosh with 3 brownlow votes and MOTM on debut. Not too shabby. Glad he was on field for moi
Very impressed with 2 tigers – Vlastuin and Ex Geelong player T. Hunt …. Now I'm upset for no sticking with Valstuin so much for a tagging role eh?
All this weekend we will be cursing players we took out of out teams. I’m sure I had every player go through my team during the preseason
Daisy might have been that at one stage
Had docherty in my backline for a while, 140+ woulda been nice
Forward-line decision – Hogan or Saad (StK)
Hype is all about Hogan – but his a KPP
Saad is named on ground – and we know he can play.
saad only averaged 47 and 58 in his previous two years
hogan for me, better JS and I think he can average over 60
So slight problem already, I had macca on the bench as E, how do i get his score now?
Backline is simpson, shaw, newnes, higgins, hunt, goodes ( macca, saad)
I am contemplating a goodes out or moving saad to the middle grabbing hamling (or none playing rookie early rookie) or am i chasing points that i cant get back?
The only way to get his score would be to trade one of your defenders that hasnt played to a non-playing player, then put that player on the field, as your entire back-line look like getting a game this week.
2nd thoughts, what I would do is this-
Bring Hugh Goddard (St.k) into your forward-line, then swing Goddard & Higgins. So you get Goddards zero points in defence, keep Higgin's score in the forward-line, and create the Fwd/Def swing.
By the way, good pick with Hunt in defence.
Tough call to bring in Goddard, just not sure on his output…possible though!
Yes happy with hunts call, i figured he came from a good stock at geelong and will play a different role at tigers, so happy with it!
G'day Cash
Goodes is named on the extended bench but I think he will play, so choose Dools, well my head says Higgo mate Get that flogg out.
Which Hunt Mate Taylor??? Looked the goods tonight mate. Get SAAD on the playing field he is Rockets little pocket mate will play extended time I think.
Put a player (your choice) on the bench. Do not select him as an emergency. Default Sub score will go to your emergency (In this case Macca) you get 115 SC points …
Yeh happy with Thunt tonight, think he should at least avg 75-80 all yr so was going to be a keeper even at D6! I have been weary with higgo for a while and he burnt me last yr, but again new team, new role…similar thoughts to Hunt
Nice you had Hunt on field.
Only way is to have a donut on the field. Is it worth it?
You could look at putting Godard in Fwd, and swing him to defence and play Higgins fwd.
Goddard won’t be far away from a game
Hmm could be a go, just not sure on goddards output
No point picking a donut to chase scores, cash generation is more important
Think this could be the answer!
Don't stuff your team by chasing that 115. However, given you run to D6 trading down either Goodes or Higgins to another rookie who is likely to play early isn't a bad idea. Hamling is the only option I can see, but will he play in the next few weeks?
This was always going to be my plan with D, i stuffed around last yr with possible donuts and jed bews..and that melb fella georgio,
I wanted a reasonable output from all D1-6, with as little headaches as possible..Hamling could play..but..maybe I am answering my own question and should leave it and deal with it
CashCows gr8 choice with Hunt, did you have Cripps in your side?
Yes definitely had to run cripps! It was close between him sheed and newton, wasn't convinced with newton, but sheed could be a cracker!
Are you for real??????????
Who wastes a trade later on for a round one score????????????
For all you know Saad could outscore Kmac and then youve wasted a trade……
LOL people chasing LAST weeks points is bad enough but chasing YESTERDAYS points??????????
Thats a new one a a mega waste of a trade which is worth either a 50 point weekly avge upgrade from a rookie or 200K!!!!!
Goodluck selecting a donut for just 1 score and then having a non playing bench player- ridiculous!!!!!
hot dog with the works…nice!
Thanks for the advice man, i knew this was the answer but just wondered if there was someway i could make it work for me, and I wouldn't be wasting a trade (no trades are counted this weekend) so long as the incoming player was actually playing and generating money..
Is it just me or was mMaric's game tonight effected by the new ruck scoring system? Had 33 HO 13 touches. The answer may be due to his ineffective hitouts but if thats a sign of things to come I may save some cash with the big blokes this year. Thoughts?
Apart from hit outs his stats were 8 kicks 5 hand passes 4 marks and 4 tackles, or about 60pts (could be a few more or less). Meaning the other 22 came from hitouts which is about 11 down on last year (based on the number of hit outs). His possession count could be better, and will need to be if he is going to average over 95.
I agonised over 2 selections:
Maric vs Nic nat and
Martin vs Bartel
I know it’s early doors but I can’t say I’m overly happy with my decisions at the moment!!
LOL that is pure Gold mate….
Why?? I am not having a go but you have had a Poor start…This is not the end Keg , this is just the 1st step in a marathon…Stumble yes, but this is a defining moment for you mate. Stick to your guns and Gut calls or throw a Tanty???
I had Cripps 211K for 51 SC points ….Hold Fast buddy hold Fast
Stick with it mate we are only one game in I had Rance up until last 30 seconds before lockout comes out with 100+ gurantee you that won't happen every week. Guys bit of help here Hibbo & Ibbo LOL OR Taylor and Higgins??
Hibbo and Ibbo is more secure than the latter. Im not confiedent in the Burn man…..
Cheers mate hopefully Ibbo can play a full season hopeful keeper
Thanks mate,
I know it’s a marathon, and I still have faith. After a start like this, faith may be all I have!! 🙂
Now watch Bartel and Nic nat go out and kill it this weekend! Lol
have mcintosh as emergency, what should i do?
Call it a day. Head to bed. And be glad you picked him in the first place 😉
Zac take your time and think this through mate…You have 30 plus hours before the next game have a read of the comments above
could put a non playing rook on field.. but yeah call it a night lol
bring a non playing backman such as Hugh Goddard or S Edwards from Essendon . You will get Mcintoshes 120 points and your non playing backman may play in the next week or two
Everyones thoughts on Neale as an upgrade target to Gaj?
I expect Neale to make some cash and good points, and personally can't see Ablett not dropping in price.
It's what I'm doing. Keeping decent chunk in the warchest though to hopefully be able to make the move without being forced into culling a cash-cow early.
Ablett is likely to be subbed out in the first few games so, he probably will drop quite a bit.
Granted its just one game but after seeing McIntosh tonight, in defence I decided to go back to a fairly light defence in:
Shaw, Jaensch, Newnes, Goods, McIntosh, Saad (Oxley, Hamling)
Doing this allowed me to fill my midfield with 6 GUNS such as: Pendles, Fyfe, Beams, JPK, Lewis, Griffen
It could end up biting me on the Ar$e big time but, I have more faith in my midfield scoring tons every week, rather then a lottery in defence.
I’m running a very similar set up with so many questions down back (I have one different defender), I’ve decided to go top heavy in the mids.
Time will tell if it’s a good move but you need to back it in!
I’m not messing around in defence.
Simpson, shaw, newnes, KK, ibbotson, Macintosh, (Saad, Oxley).
Goodes will burn everyone!
2 on field rookies will be a big mistake.
Solid defence won’t win SuperCoach, but a weak one will lose it.
I understand what you and Jambo are saying as that was my initial thoughts also.
In the past the defence premo's always end up scoring inconsistently, especially this year as we have very few gun midfielders in defence as opposed to previous years when we could select Bartel, Heppel, Hanley, Goddard and all of these had DPP's but this year we don't have that luxury.
THE GREAT MAN JOCK's STRATEGY and I quote:
"I refuse to load my defense to D5. I’m dead set certain that too many are trying to go too deep back there with blokes they’ve conned themselves into thinking can get the job done. I don’t want to be stuck with a basket of overpriced under performing crap defensive bloody lemons.
I want to be in a position where I can pick off the quality defensive options as they emerge in the lead up to the byes. I need Ibbotson or Goodes to provide me reasonable early output – and critically – I’ll be looking at using at least one of those blokes along with a rookie as a stepping stone to the defensive options that put their hand up as the season progresses."
END QUOTE
What Jock said is so true. That's why this season im thinking by having a more solid midfield by selecting Elite premiums such as: Pendles, Fyfe, Beams, JPK, Lewis, Griffen or who ever you like, these players have significantly less risk of scoring inconsistently compared to our defence selections.
This way I can upgrade my defence after seeing there output, and should save me upgrading a extra midfielder come mid season.
Good luck to all which ever way you chose to go.
I disagree, the midfield is the hardest to lock down throughout the season. It will be to your advantage. Good luck this season.
And we are off !!!
Great to have footy back lads…just seeking some advice , not sure with the new scoring structure for rucks , whether to lighten up the stocks and take another defender … any advice !

Rich downgrade and upgrade goodes potentially?
Put Bellchambers in your Rucks.
Great Article BVC, I wonder if anyone picked Docherty for Perfect 9 apart from Sam Docherty?
Gaj VC this week.
Pendles, Fyfe or Selwood Captain "IF" GAJ does not perform.
I don't think GAJ will get subbed off and managed we MUST be positive just like GAJ.
He will be saying I am playing. How easy is this first 5 games for 15 Brownlow points.
Cheers, just my Opinion.
Like it, OO. Taking a punt on Gazza as well, not a bad guy to take a punt on!
Can someone tell me why supercoach app hasn’t given the points for the last nights game so far?
Points appear on the match day option. Super coach doesn't allocate points on your team sheet until after the round is complete.
1 more spot: 712713
I have McIntosh but locked him in as emergency before the game last night. Should I continue on or cop a 0 with another rookie so I can collect his score?
No don’t chase his score
55,000 sitting in the bank. What shall I do?
-Upgrade Thumper to Higgins/Lumumba.
-Downgrade Thumper to Ibbo/Geary.
-Keep the cash.
What is wrong with thumper
really need peoples thoughts, will wallis tag or do you think his role will change this year? want to pick him but a bit scared.
Go with ya gut, I went with T.Hunt and was worried he started beautifully
Anyone looking at Mackie as a defence POD? Good price, decent average, named on the wing… Thoughts?
Thoughts on H.Taylor?
wont play
Ok, after all my arguments this whole pre season , I can't believe I'm saying this………..but with giles not named in the bombers side , and a lot positive talk from the JR community , I'm actually considering TBC at F4 .
Only way to afford it is to downgrade swan at F3 to a t Adams priced player, then I can upgrade Lonie from my bench to TBC. Am I going crazy. Everyone says to follow your gut, but what happens if your gut does a complete 360?
It would leave my forward line looking like …….gray, bartel, Adams ? , TBC , Clark, Salem, ( hogan, lamb)
Personally, I reckon Swan & rookie is better on field than Adams & TBC.
I'm not convinced by Taylor Adams, he generally has poor efficiency.
With low-ruck scoring last night (Maric had similar "around the ground" points but seemed to lose out on the hit-out points)…. I'm actually willing to play TBC in the ruck.
Assuming theres no extra cash to be had so that you could do a Bontempelli / Tex instead of Adams?
Put him in your ruck
Anyone know when hamling and Hugh Goddard are expected to play?
Silly question
Had mcintosh as the emergency!!
Have got adam Saad as well
Can place hugh goddard on the field and take his score.
or do i trade hugh goddard for either
Adam Oxley
Joel hamling
Nathan Brown
This gig is all about cash. Wouldn't play a donut just to chase a score. If you've options named, take them…. McIntosh, Saad, Oxley. Done!
Not having a player isn't worth 120 points, get as many rooks playing as possible
Any concern that Ryan Griffin has been named in the forward pocket?
So was Muprohy and Yarran but they played their actual positions, just GWS messing with us
Hey Lek …Blues were woeful, You have a whole season of this!!!!
If I didn't have supercoach I don't know what I'd do
I can think of a few things…
Nope. The named team is not any indication that they'll play in that position. I expect Griffin to play right in the guts from bounce-down. The above rule will apply to Gary Ablett. Named to play ruck rover. I traverse this and say he'll likely start on the bench or forward line. If I were his coach, I'd give him the green vest and sub him in 3rd term but that's just me.
trying to decide on an emergency ruck – Read, Cox, O'Brien. All cheap, all not playing, all DPP. Any thoughts on which one is more likely to get early game time?
Read has better games for loopholing (Most Sunday games), though O'Brien has a better shot at a game
Cox is third in line at the Pies, with only Grundy and Witts ahead of him.
An injury to one of them and he'd be in the frame by default.
Corey Gault's been upgraded and would be ahead of Cox,
Hey lads
Need to pick 2 outta these 3, Salem, m, Clarke and hogan
Cheers in advance
Salem and Clark
Cockatoo or Jed Anderson?
Wait for the teams for that one, they both play on Monday
Both very likely candidates for the snot vest unfortunately.
I think Hartung is ahead of anderson at the moment. Hartung is a perfect sub player.
Decisions decisions who do you think will be the best appreciater in value, for M8?
Vandenburg
Anderson or
Ellis Yolmen…
Anderson and CEY seem to have the most potential but might find themselves best 23. Vandenberg playing this week but could be vested and play 1 qtr…?
Appreciate any advice, cheers!
Yolmen on with emg on vandenBerg
Thanks Lek makes sense
Anderson very lucky to play.
I currently have Ellis-Yolemen and Heeney starting on my feild, but if Vandenburg didn’t get the green vest he come on, for Heeney. So I’m waiting for the game tomorrow before I make any decisions.
Currently have rich at M6 as stepping stone to GAJ in about R7-8. Thinking of dropping him down to Newton to get TBC in my fwd line. He looks the no.1 solo ruck at essendon and too good to pass up. To make it happen, I also need to drop goldy back to nicnat, alongside Minson in my rucks. Concerned about 500+ ruckmen after Maric score last nite. Anyone with similar dilemma, thoughts? Cheers
Goldstein will be the number 1 ruckman for supercoach this year
There is that to consider … Would u say thumper to Ibbotson is a better compromise?
Would actually need to go down to Geary
Better yes but still risky. You could get rid of Rich and swing say a Swan into the mid and then have Bellch at f3/4 with some cash to upgrade somewhere else
Hadn't even thought of that … But does throw my structures out a bit … Swan is likely keeper in fwd but stepping stone in mids. Will run some further analysis down at the lab before I commit. Love the vids btw, cheers.
Can always swing him back fwd later on, just a thought. Thanks mate
Put Bellchambers in the Ruck
Thought I had an excellent POD in Morris, with his shift from the back line to the forward line thought he would give me something. I got something alright, a dead set punch in the ring. What a spud, lucky I had McIntosh. Got a few corrective trades to make come Tuesday.
deadset worst "footballer" in the league.
Plays the man not the ball and is crap at it too
You kidding right? Morris is one of the most courageous players in the leage. Just cause he puts his body on the line more than other players doesn't mean he's a bad footballer, just makes him a braver one.
You don't watch football do you? Idiot
