Significant Show Notes:

Jamie · 22/02/2015 at 22:43

ROOKIE ALERT | Isaac Heeney has been put on a managed training program after suffering knee tendinitis. The swans believe he won't see NAB Challenge and isn't likely to feature early in the home and away season. ‪#‎supercoach‬

    FC HAWKSTOWE · 22/02/2015 at 22:53

Don't believe what you read off some sites mate. In particular the one you copied and paste that info!

      Ryan · 22/02/2015 at 23:05

John Longmire has said so himself unfortunately

        FC HAWKSTOWE · 22/02/2015 at 23:27

I hope your wrong Ryan, but as I asked Paige, Can I have a source? Everything I've found suggests he's ok. Source 2 days ago, AFL.com: While Heeney has been able to build his workload in recent weeks and could play pre-season games. "He's been building up to the point now where he's playing games, and he's doing really well," Longmire said.

    @RagingBulls34 · 22/02/2015 at 23:20

Supercoach Paige can't be trusted Jamie, too dodgy too often. Heeney has been managing knee tendinitis for the majority of the pre season, though I probably won't be picking him anyway. With his preseason being interrupted, he has a high chance of being Sub.

      FC HAWKSTOWE · 22/02/2015 at 23:36

I'm glad someone has the same view. There are so many people that follow that page, and most of them have no clue that there led by some very average supercoaches! Not to mention the misinformation that regularly happens.

        Seaford Scouse · 24/02/2015 at 08:37

The interview on the AFL site, where this originates from, states Heeney will probably play some pre-season games despite being managed with his knee tendinitis over the last month. It also states that he’s been building his workload up over the last couple of weeks! Most first year rookies are managed to a 75% workload in their first pre-season so it’s not hard to assume that he won’t be too far behind any other rookie. Swans need to start developing their youth so expect to see him sooner rather than later. Do think he could be vest affected to start with though.

D.B.M · 22/02/2015 at 23:14

I need a few opinions on this early team, any ins/outs before NAB cup. Better rookie options?

    Patrick · 23/02/2015 at 14:26

    Looks like everyone else's team

      PDP · 23/02/2015 at 16:01

Patrick my friend. I have only eight players the same as DBM's team and, I believe my current team is superior to DMB's current team, which no doubt, DBM will alter several times before finalising his team. With the overload of Supercoach information that is now available, there will be similaries amongt teams, however with due respect to DBM, he/she wrote that this was his/her 'early team'. You and I could each select a strong midfield completely different to that of DBM? (Although Ablett has to be in any team I select).
Different structures and POD's make Supercoach fascinating, don't you agree?

        D.B.M · 23/02/2015 at 20:13

        Thanks PDP.

    slugsfriends · 23/02/2015 at 20:55

G'day mate after reviewing my 2014 season, one of my biggest let downs was picking players over the age of 30, particularly for my round 1 team. Firstly, it is rare that a player over the age of 30 increases his output, secondly, injuries are far too common. Players who let me down in this regard included hodge, enright and bartell. I know there are limited def premiums but I would say you need to move two of those on. Also, when you pick a player that costs more than 500k, you have to believe that they will be in the top 10 players of their line in 23 weeks, otherwise you will need to get rid of them and will not make much money off your investment. Looking at your mids, Ward, wines, swallow and steven are all good picks however you will be lucky to have 1 of them in the top 10 mids. Jock himself says as a general rule only have one of these players in your midfield

      Seaford Scouse · 24/02/2015 at 14:25

Very valid point about the over 30s slugsfriends, only adding to our defensive woe for 2015! However, Bartell worth a punt, Chris Scott has called him out for a midfield position this season.

      D.B.M · 24/02/2015 at 20:00

Thanks slugsfriend, I will take this great advice onboard and I appreciate your effort to reply. I also got pinged last year by the over 30s so I will look to move on atleast hodge or bartel and increase the the likelyhood of having my midfielders in the top 10. Thanks again.

@RagingBulls34 · 22/02/2015 at 23:16

Brilliant guys, Pearce over Ibbotson any day, ay Crouching? Sorry Higgo, but at the moment I am going strong in the forward line rather than defence. Got D3, M5, R2, F4 as season long keepers. Love your works guys.

    scano · 23/02/2015 at 20:39

Not sure how you will go with 3 rookies down back. So hard to find one that has good job security let alone 5.

      slugsfriends · 23/02/2015 at 20:57

on the other hand scano, try finding three premium defenders who will average 100. Biggest dilema of the year this

        scano · 23/02/2015 at 21:33

haha defence is absolute carnage this year! What type of structure are you going for slugs?

      @RagingBulls34 · 23/02/2015 at 22:58

I have Pearce at D4 Scano, just 3 defence keepers

OldOcker · 22/02/2015 at 23:21

You are a marketing genius Jock

Cheers Bloke.

throttlefinger · 22/02/2015 at 23:30

Love it, gents. Perfect soundtrack for Sunday breakfast.

Going to have a keen eye on Pierce, Luke McD and Thumper for my back line. Think one could make it in there. Going back and forth between 2/2/2 and 1/2/3 structure back there.

And CrouchingOne, thank you for finally solving a song riddle I've wondered about for many years. One of my favorite songs by an Aussie band was titled, "Thank Your Mom For the Rabbits." Just thought it was a quirky thing they threw together. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yf24GjECpJ0

Brilliant intra-insights and structure talk. Lot of meat on this podcast to chew on this week. Until Thursday!

    OldOcker · 23/02/2015 at 00:02

    G'Day throttle,
Great comments mate what else can I do but agree.
It was a very pleasant surprise to see you as the first comment on the Ultimate Spreadsheet mate and thank you very much mate.
Have to chat on email again soon.

Still uncertain at this stage on back-line and rucks. This is the sort of info we need.

      throttlefinger · 23/02/2015 at 00:10

C'mon Ocker. I've been a big fan of your spreadsheets since last season. If I wasn't the first to give you an attaboy I would've been shamed!

Definitely moving back and forth on back line structures. Settled on the two as stated above. Rucks? Settled in on NicNat but going all over the place with the other. Mummy, Maric and Nicholls are my top choices. If TN looks good and will be GCS R1, he may be my man. Mummy is expensive but could go 120+ this year. Especially if health keeps him playing 20+ games.

Yes, let's talk soon, Double O!

        OldOcker · 23/02/2015 at 00:16

Good onya mate, Nic Nat is pretty much locked in for me but still undecided on R2. I am keen to see Maric this year and at the moment is very high on my watch list.

Must go to bed mate have a big day tomorrow or I should say later today.

          throttlefinger · 23/02/2015 at 00:23

Have a pleasant evening, my friend. Talk soon.

    lostlarrikin · 23/02/2015 at 00:44

Ahh, Cosmic Psychos, had em on my mind too when Crouching started his Slipperisms.
    Great live band!

Another well cast pod there gents.
Keen to get some more oil from the Saints Intra club from u Jock.

Beware of Garrick the Grimace. His monster year was on the back of some unfathomable TOG stats, somewhere in the order of 97%. Can't see that being repeated.

      throttlefinger · 23/02/2015 at 01:13

Awesome live band, Double L. Fortunate to have seen them a couple times when they hit the States. Think one tour was with the Melvins. So damn good.

Yeah, more interested in Pearce than Ibbo. Same concerns you have. TOG didn't know. Nice factoid, my friend.

@HJ_Mitch · 23/02/2015 at 01:05

Ah, the podcast! It's a bit like My Kitchen Rules – just gets better and better as it keeps coming!

My early tip, community, is keep your eye on LMcD for early selection. He is set for a breakout year.
I hear he's getting plenty of manscaping downstairs because he's so hairy! I reckon that waxing would make you angry.

AS for fisherman, Crouching, R.Hunt has been on the nose for a while but K.Hunt is about to be used for burly, I suspect.

And, Higgo, can you ask your Mother if you ever had sherry or brandy put into you baby's bottle? I suspect so. I would suggest that early embibers should be somewhat circumspect before having a go at Wayno.

These wonderful podcasts just keep on coming! By the way, why hasn't one of those wonderful companies like Lion Nathan or CUB or Fosters seen the benefit of following the JR Community? Anyone out there with a contact should go in and wake up one of those so-called MBA marketing gurus!!

    sober one · 23/02/2015 at 09:29

Let’s get a real up and comer into the team rather than merchant of poison :-p

@LekBlog · 23/02/2015 at 01:21

Team Structure is as follows:
Def 4/2
Mid 6/2 (Swallow at m6)
Ruck 2 (Mummy at R1)
Fwd 3/3 (Salem at f4)

Also community I've been flogging Pearce since last year and Salem since the great Jock tweeted about him!

    Gold Rush · 23/02/2015 at 17:03

How did you get 4 premos in defense? What's your definition of a Premo price wise?

      @LekBlog · 24/02/2015 at 13:57

450k In defense, has been changed to 3/1/2 now

yuiop · 23/02/2015 at 08:49

?see a lot of people with proven players up to D5 in defence but not sure why. Can someone explain?

    sober one · 23/02/2015 at 09:31

Short of playable def rookies bud.

Dan · 23/02/2015 at 09:44

Current def line:
Shaw, Newnes, Ibbotson, Henderson, Whitecross, Goddard

Tossing up whether to replace one of these with pearce. Clearly gone for a cheap backline.
Thoughts guys??

    slugsfriends · 23/02/2015 at 21:00

Hard to criticise Dan the man. Defence is so hard, I think everybody's defence will be dependent on round 1 teams ie, whitecross, goddard, edwards, rainbow, lever

@TG_Footy_Tragic · 23/02/2015 at 10:03

Loved the podcast gents!

I'll probably get chastised for this, but sorry Higgo – I disagree on structure.

To me; this year defense is just too hard to pick.

In defense, I'm going a proven keeper, a possible breakout and a (hopefully) Stepping stone player, & the rest: Rookies.

My midfield is batting Deep. 7 keepers and 4 rookies.

I aim to keep both Rucks. Not risking Leuenhamneggenburger.

Only batting 3 deep in the forward line, rest being Rookies.

I feel keeping to this structure, my midfield and rucks are strong, giving me quality output; but defense and forward are weaker.

I should still get 4 quality rookies from mids, and hopefully 6-7 of the 10 remaining rookies get game time.

Happy to hear feedback.

    I N Pieman · 23/02/2015 at 10:22

I agree with your backline theory Dex. It is too hard to pick. One big boy then Newnes then roll the dice & rookies. I plan to trade through the backline & try & find some value to ride up. I think we will get some good rookies Fwd so 3-5 is not a bad option.

      @TG_Footy_Tragic · 23/02/2015 at 10:40

Yep – all the trading up forward and down back.
I feel my 7 mids will all be in the top 10-15 scorers come season end.

Not to mention, most defenders are overpriced.

        scano · 23/02/2015 at 11:23

Not sure how you'll be with 3 rookies on field in defence. At the moment there arent many who are certain to play and have good job security. I do like your tactic though, 3 rookies up front and a loaded midfield looks like it will be the way to go.

        I N Pieman · 23/02/2015 at 12:04

It's an absolute certainty Dex the 10 most expensive defenders will drop in price & some substantially. I think it's a wait & see & pick off year in defence.

    OldOcker · 23/02/2015 at 13:12

I don't know why you would think that anyone would chastise you on this structure Dex because with all the structures I have played with I keep coming back to a nearly identical team structure that you have.

Not going quite as deep in the midfield at this stage because I am working on the theory that the extra mid bench spot is an opportunity to make money from the real cash generating rookies and there should not be a shortage of options there.

    Set and forget rucks (Hopefully)

    I think if I can get a back-line averaging 90 – 95 for the season I would be happy.

The back-line is overpriced and are renowned for coming down in price. There are value options in defense that I think are worth rolling the dice with.
I have gonads of cast iron and feel it might be worth taking a bit of a risk this year.

I am looking at 4 deep forward line with Swanny at his price.

This year in particular the trades are going to be more important than ever.

    Trab Pukcip · 24/02/2015 at 14:10

Hey dex, 7 midfielders if very hardcore mate! I can't disagree with anything you've mentioned as you finished bloody high last year (50th wasn't it?) – no chastising ever gonna happen there!! The only area I disagree with is only 3 forwards. My aim is to have no rookies on the field in my forward line. Currently have salem F6. With the debacle that is the defensive line I figure that I want my forward line to remain untouched for as long as possible. Unlike the carnage last year with kennedy harris and co stinking it up. Just my opinion!

    General Soreness · 23/02/2015 at 11:18

Awesome Captain………….this is the best team I have seen to date, I doubt that it can be topped. Like the use of Ryder and Cox for the swing set.

      scano · 23/02/2015 at 11:33

Wow. Magnificent! would it be alright if I copied this team? Too good not to steal.

      Captain Awesome · 24/02/2015 at 01:44

Gotta have em swinging general. Get into it scano

    Gold Rush · 23/02/2015 at 17:08

Christ!!! I've seen the light, absolutely Awesome – out of the box thinking, left field dynamite!!!!!!

    Trab Pukcip · 24/02/2015 at 14:14

Mate, you can upgrade from Captain to General! That's pure gold.

      Captain Awesome · 24/02/2015 at 20:18

Any thoughts on Neale and swallow

    Wayne Kerr · 24/02/2015 at 20:34

Captain, seems you’ve got more than SuperCoach on your mind. Get out of it you mangy dog:)

BillJamesTheory · 23/02/2015 at 10:53

The only sunshine on an otherwise bleak outlook of driving to work on a Monday morning A+ guys. Significant content.

$urferboi69 · 23/02/2015 at 11:18

How do we feel about Ricky Henderson this year gang?

    General Soreness · 23/02/2015 at 11:28

He should be on a watchlist, would normally be too awkwardly priced but given Def woes has to be watched. Personally I will try and avoid as many mid priced Defenders as possible. Mid price break out defenders are harder to pick than a broken nose after youve cut your nails.

    scano · 23/02/2015 at 11:30

Saw an article saying hes been penciled into the half back line. If he can get back to his 2013 average of 85 he will be a very handy pickup. (Currently in my team atm)

Sarah · 23/02/2015 at 11:20

Absolute gold boys!! Thanks for the heads-up on Clancee Pearce. Hadn't even looked at him before but a quick look through his history and if fit represents very good value. Cheers!!

I N Pieman · 23/02/2015 at 12:02

Great Podcast Gents. Some of the names you through up are high on my radar. Been talking to Dools about Langdon for a while. His first half of last season was awesome. But like many first year players he crashed into the wall. I don't think 80-85 av is beyond him at all. The arrival of Malcheski put Thumper back on the map for me. And Clancee Pearce if he's best 22 is serious value.

t_woof · 23/02/2015 at 12:37

As always, very good podcast.

Plenty of fat to chew there.

I'm beginning to back flip on the cheap defence….

    I N Pieman · 23/02/2015 at 14:11

    Why's that woof?

      t_woof · 23/02/2015 at 14:40

      G'day INP!!

The rookies down back are looking thin. Rookies in the mid field, and to a lesser extent up forward appear superior. Right now i wouldn't be confident in naming one <180K player down back that will be playing Round 1. Nathan Brown is a SPUD, so he's excluded.

      Finally warming to premium defenders.

No doubt plenty will change over the upcoming weeks…..my thoughts at present.

    Sarah · 23/02/2015 at 15:03

I'm with you Twoof. I hate trading in defence and if the best you'll get will average 90, then it's not worth it. I'm going for more of a set and 'hopefully' forget defence. I'll be loading up on the rookie forwards and mids, which at this stage looks like there'll be quite a few. If that changes then I do have contingency structures. But the main aim will be to look for the fallen premo mids and forwards and pick them off as they come around.

      I N Pieman · 23/02/2015 at 15:31

Interesting ladies & gents. I want at least 6 keeper mids. Maybe 7 like Dex. Having to only get 1-2 throughout the season wont be too tough. Picking of fallen Fwds or Def is a lot easier than gun mids. Means something has to give. And defenders generally suck.

        t_woof · 24/02/2015 at 00:01

Agree Sarah, trading defenders in is always fickle. Walker and Simpson perfect examples last year. I'm thinking along the same lines, 90 average could be par.

INP, 6-7 deep in the mid field dam that's strong. I'm starting to lean towards 4-0-7, which would be the lightest mid field i've gone in with….since i can remember. But that all hinges on the performances of these rooks. Could easily change tenfold.

          Sarah · 24/02/2015 at 08:07

I went in with only 4 premo mids last year and finished just outside the top 1000. It's not a bad move as that's where the best rookies are also.

      I N Pieman · 23/02/2015 at 15:32

Sarah how are those rookies defenders we've been talking about shaping up. Any intra club action?

        Sarah · 23/02/2015 at 16:04

Not much action as yet Pieman. Will know more following the NAB games. Can't wait for them to get started!!!

          I N Pieman · 23/02/2015 at 16:49

Agree Sarah. 3 more sleeps! Bring it on

BCHawks · 23/02/2015 at 15:29

Great podcast fellas. I think I am leaning more towards Peter in this great debate. I am currently running 3 premo and 5 rookies in my forward line. I feel there are some great rookies in the forward line where as there are very few in the backline and with Waters gone now it means we really need to look for value.

I am not sold on leunburger either and will be running 2 premo rucks.

Nathan · 23/02/2015 at 15:29

Great work once again guys

My on field rookies go as
2 defence
3 mids
1 forward
I'm thinking of dropping a forward to strengthen the backline a little more and have 5 400k players
What the community's thoughts?
i just see more scoring power in the forward line but less money to be made in the backline

    scano · 23/02/2015 at 15:54

exactly my thinking Nath! Who is your f5 at the moment?

      Nathan · 23/02/2015 at 16:04

But the other four are Goddard swan Martin and Mitchell
I'd lose Martin out of those four I think
Coz I want to hold onto tbc for rucks due to using injury prone Nic Nat and higher injury prone Berger
And that works with the byes too

    Sarah · 23/02/2015 at 16:06

More scoring power in the forward line is a given… but will there be sufficient defensive rookies for that structure… unfortunately I doubt it.

      Nathan · 23/02/2015 at 17:03

I had a look at what I can do with my team
And by offloading Martin frees up a bit of cash to bring in any backman or take Higgins( or similar value) and clancee which leaves me with no rookie defenders on field
Still not decided but it's seeming to be a good option
What some thought on McMillan from nth?

        Dean Billman · 24/02/2015 at 03:04

McMillan worth a look this year I think.

    Donavan · 24/02/2015 at 00:00

I have the following rookie numbers on field-

    Def – 1 (plus Whitecross)
    Mid – 2
    Fwd – 2

scano · 23/02/2015 at 16:09

Thoughts on Bellchambers at F4? I see a lot of people thinking about going 3 rookies on field in the forward line but I think If we spend a little more getting Bellchambers (who is now the number 1 ruck at the dons) it could pay dividends.

    I N Pieman · 23/02/2015 at 16:44

Too many good rookie options in the fwd line to waste a spot for TBC for mine. Salem Lambert & Krak looks nice on my screen as F4-6. Could see all those boys putting up some reasonable numbers.

      Nathan · 23/02/2015 at 16:53

      Hey pieman

Do you have cover for your rucks or see you going promos who should last the journey

        I N Pieman · 23/02/2015 at 18:43

Hi Nath. If a decent rookie ruck doesn’t appear it becomes my loophole position. If one of your rucks falls over just trade them IMO. TBC is value I think but there’s every possibility we will see as many & if not more fwd rookies than mids. It’s a waste clogging up a fwd spot for coverage when you have 30 trades.

          Nathan · 23/02/2015 at 19:56

I’m going nic nat and Berger so not having cover is a risk due to there durability
          Thanks for the Incite

      Trab Pukcip · 24/02/2015 at 14:20

Couldn't agree more Pieman, TBC has never been supercoach relevant IMO, he could be DPP, DPPP, DDPP, DVDA for all I bloody care and I still wont put him in my team! (added to which the bloke has a ticker the size of my left kruit!!!)

    Phil · 23/02/2015 at 18:02

Agree with Pieman, too many good options FWD, which is why I currently have Bellchambers R2…..Risky, yes…But as Kev says back your rucks (maybe he means the durable ones!)

Douglas · 23/02/2015 at 17:20

Dangerfield yes or no

    The Governor · 23/02/2015 at 17:45

    Honestly cannot answer that!

Jet, scores well but good enough to be top 8 mids at the end of the year… gee there are some quality picks in there. Even his best ever average wouldn't have cracked top 5 last year.

I need help on a Crows player also…. BRAD CROUCH… thoughts???

      Dean Billman · 24/02/2015 at 03:09

I'm tossing up between Crouch and Wines atm. They are both definitely maybes at this stage.

        Trab Pukcip · 24/02/2015 at 14:24

I have them both in my team at M5,M6.

    Dools · 23/02/2015 at 17:47

Yes mate He is priced perfect for a Keeper who can score 170 odd and appreciate in value (secondary consideration) He is a season Keeper.

      Douglas · 23/02/2015 at 17:58

Thanks Dools, you help a lot of people out. You have some good knowledge, would it be possible to see your team by any chance

        Dools · 23/02/2015 at 18:26

        Sure mate,
I will give you my Def line and mid as Ruc and fwds change weekly
Newnes, Mayes s. , Vlastuin, Watson M., Clancee of the Overflow, Fuller (Maybecome whiteX) Goddard and McKenzie (may become WCE youngster)
GAJ, Dependels, Jelwood, JPK, Danger, A.Swallow, Newton, Freeman, Brokenhorses, Steel and Krakouer
I still Have 250K in the Kick to gin around and go super cheap in a line but my intent is to trade 11 times in Defence before the bye rounds

          Douglas · 23/02/2015 at 18:33

Nice team Dools! Cheap backline though, may come back to haunt you?

            Dools · 23/02/2015 at 18:41

11 trades in my mind Dougy 11 That's the Key ..It either works or Computer , Next G device and bloody Silent Slipper will beat up the Fridge!! and no one messes with my fridge…
            How's your team coming along??

    DL123 · 23/02/2015 at 18:32

Contract strife always proves to get to a player like that. Dools makes a great point about being a perfect price, and if he becomes a season keeper then yes he is value.
But the question is will he appreciate with all the media attention and a fine tooth comb running over him every week.

IMO I think Sloane and the new coach walsh will love each other, sloane will sign and become their next captain. that aside, i also think sloane is the next pendlebury in terms of consistency, so im taking him this year to start!

    Good luck 🙂

      Dools · 23/02/2015 at 18:49

      Hey DL,
I love Slone but 616K??? safer with Danger but I hear what your putting down. However I do not think that Dangermouse will be concerned about contracts he has performed for 3 years and had the blowtorch of team expectation laid on him for 2 …Nawh I'm not worried for my man. Hopefully he leaves and gets back to Geelong, then I will have a dilemma Joel or Patrick on the same line….but not this season………….. LOCK

Tom · 23/02/2015 at 17:50

Got 750k and need two defenders defence is currently:

Hibberd, Newnes, ???, ???, Goddard, Viojo-Rainbow, Maynard.

    Tom · 23/02/2015 at 17:51

    And Jake Lever

      scano · 23/02/2015 at 17:53

ibbotson, vlastuin, henderson and mcdonald are a few options

        Seaford Scouse · 24/02/2015 at 18:48

Throw into the mix above also James Kelly, Hampton and if your feeling exceptionally brave….Lumumba (shudders)

Dan the Man · 23/02/2015 at 17:53

I have $176,000 left in the bank and I need peoples thoughts on my team. Be Brutal.
DEF: Smith, Shaw, Newnes, Vlastuin, Goddard, Viojo-Rainbow, McKenzie, Newman
MID: Ablett, Pendles, Sloane, Selwood, Wines, Swallow, Boekhorst, Freeman, Vandenberg, Steele, Lambert
RUC: Goldy, Leuey, Cox
FWD: Goddard, Martin, Swan, Salem, Hogan, Laverde, Krakouer, Daniel.

I'm not sold on Swallow. Should I downgrade him to someone like Biggs, then upgrade a FWD rookie? Or I can upgrade Swallow with the left over coin. Thoughts?

    T-MAC · 23/02/2015 at 18:32

you could downgrade Swallow to Biggs, Trade Steele, sub Laverde into the guts and bring in Tom Mitchell. I believe you should have enough

Phil · 23/02/2015 at 17:58

Interresting some of the 2nd year high draft picks in the FWD line….J.Martin, Bontempelli, Billings, Salem, Kelly. Which one is going to explode this year ala Jack Macrae and average 100?

    Seaford Scouse · 24/02/2015 at 19:05

Hit on an interesting one there Phil! Martin for me has several things going for him that would put him top of my list. Will be in a finals challenging team, has an incredible midfield to supply him, has a reasonably easy start to the season and started to show some class, consistency and most important of all sc relevance at the back end last year. Locked in as my F4 at the moment (over Mitchell). NAB output could sway me to move back though.

Think Salem will also reward us as well. The Bont is an interesting one and one to definitely keep an eye on in NAB, dogs structure is intriguing with Griffin gone, Dalhaus to move in there? Bont has bulked up as well so should benefit from that.

Tyler · 23/02/2015 at 18:19

Brodie smith!??!?!?! Why not ? Im tossing up between him or enright or if someone's got anyone 95+ average for 2015 defender other than newnes or shaw cheers.

skindog · 23/02/2015 at 19:35

wouldn't get on Fisher, will go down early

Cyril is Delicious · 23/02/2015 at 20:05

Thoughts on my team, would love the communities thoughts:
DEF: B.Smith, L.Hodge, J.Newnes, R.Henderson, S.Edwards, H.Goddard (D.Vijo-Rainbow, N.Newman)
MIDS: G.Ablett, T.Rockliff, S.Pendlebury, N.Fyfe, R.Sloane, D.Rich, B.Boekhorst, N.Freeman(A.Vandenberg, R.Atkins, K.Lambert)
RUCS: Nic Nat, Leuy(T.Read)
FWD: B.Goddard, L.Dahlhaus, D.Swan, T.Mitchell, C.Salem, J.Hogan(J.Laverde, C.Daniel)
Have $8,800 in the bank.
Would love any thoughts and opinions on my line up, cheers!

    JoeWoolcock · 23/02/2015 at 20:51

Hey Cyril, I'd stock up in the fwd line rather than defense given the multitude of options up front. At least one more premo there will help your cause. That said, your midfield looks delicious indeed! Choices to make for me too mate.

    Blueprime · 24/02/2015 at 02:48

Ditch Rockliff & Dahlhaus for Selwood & Delidio. Rocky will be cheaper by the byes.

Phil · 23/02/2015 at 21:14

Just out of curiosity I'm wondering why Tom Mitchell is so popular? Nobody wants to touch Karnezis cos we all got burnt by him a couple of years ago so why not Mitchell. Anyone who started him over Parker last year got screwed big time. I'm not aware of any Sydney midfielders retiring or leaving. Malceski leaving may mean the McVeigh (or 6 others) takes his spot and Titch takes McVeighs isn't gonna cut for me. Round 12 is gonna be hard enough as it is without taking risky picks. Rant over.

    Nuggety · 23/02/2015 at 21:59

Yeah I get where you’re coming from Phil, no guarantees that’s for sure. I think it’s just that when he does play he’s a ball magnet and scores really well. I had him over Parker last year and keep remembering that saying ‘fool me once….’ I’m thinking about taking a punt on another mid price forward just higher in price and using the correctional trade if my hunch is wrong. 30 trades is heaps right?..right?

    Trab Pukcip · 24/02/2015 at 14:31

Hi Phil, I was one of those that got burnt by 'swangate' last year. Bottom line he is too good a player to be left out the 22 this year. If commonsense prevails McVeigh drops back and titch steps straight in.

scano · 23/02/2015 at 21:30

thoughts on rory sloane?

    Danners16 · 24/02/2015 at 15:27

Good pick if you don't have any of the other Crows mids

    General Soreness · 24/02/2015 at 16:05

He will play a lot of footy very well.

Tyler · 23/02/2015 at 21:36

I'm feeling like I take in too much information and believe it all straight away. I remember there was an article about Giles, and the article itself was making it sound like he was a good option, so I put him in my team straight away. Then a few days ago I went back to that article, read the comments and realised I didn't think he was a good option.
So my question is how much should I rely on gut instinct, or should I rely on what other people say more?

    scano · 23/02/2015 at 21:40

always listen to the experts mate but dont let that stop you from going with someone who you really believe will be good for your team.

    pauly walnuts · 23/02/2015 at 21:54

Tyler, you will see a lot of players at a simlilar price , but it wil come to your gut, also can I suggest you read a lot from each Club and their comments on each player, especially with rookies; with no guarantees. Good Luck !

Deeman · 24/02/2015 at 08:26

Wondering which players from the Hawks should be picked as starters? Hawks will get allocated a lot of points each game so thinking I few should be added.

Each time I pick my side I don’t end up with any hawks players. Who r their keepers?

    I N Pieman · 24/02/2015 at 10:47

If Whitecross plays Deeman he will bee in my team & probably everyone's. Other than that I don't have any. No real standouts for mine.

@SeanySamp · 24/02/2015 at 09:57

Fantastic podcast again!
I'm feeling we should load up on forward rookies this year. Clark/Hogan/Krakouer/Lambert/Membrey are all huge chances to become regulars IMO, with Steele/Daniel/Karnezis/Laverede/Markworth//Markworth/Lennon a possibility to become regulars.

Compare this to the backline "huge chances" in Whitecross and Goddard, and "possibilities" in McKenzie/Vjojo/Jones/Moore/Edwards/Dick/Maynard/Lever.

I've currently got a 4/4 keeper/rookie structure in defence, with Seedsman (bit worried that he didn't play intra) at D4 and C.Pearce at D5. Got a 3/5 structure in the forwards, with Mitchell the closest thing to a midpricer.

This is with a 5/6 midfield structure with no Rich, and Jacobs/Naitanui in the rucks.

What's the thoughts with this strategy?

    I N Pieman · 24/02/2015 at 10:25

Plenty of rookies in the fwd line Seany. 3-5 is a good move I think. Trading through the backline & fwdline looks like a good strategy to me.

      @SeanySamp · 24/02/2015 at 11:04

Yeah absolutely Pieman, chuck in Salem as well and there's a plethora of cheap options up forward.

        I N Pieman · 24/02/2015 at 11:20

Ive got Salem at F4 ATM. Think we will be spoilt for choice. Lots of them are mature age as well. Think Lambert Krak Clarke even Salem is not a first season rookie. Could be better options in the Fwd line than midfield.

    Sarah · 24/02/2015 at 11:07

I completely agree. If the forward rookies come through, I may only start with Swan and another premo forward and strengthen up my other lines. Will be risky but could be the way to go.

      I N Pieman · 24/02/2015 at 11:25

Can't disagree with that strategy Sarah. Looks like the best line for rookies.

        scano · 24/02/2015 at 19:51

So will you be going with 3 rookies in defence aswell pieman?

Like the choice of McGovern, I would probably drop Lumumba (was tagging at the intra) and swing McGovern back there, select another onfield fwd rookie and use that cash to upgrade Bird.

Just my two cent mate otherwise solid team 🙂

      I N Pieman · 24/02/2015 at 14:21

Agree with you Lek on Lamumba. Also Nathan Brown is about as bad as it gets for a sc player. Whilst he’s very cheap expect a 40-50 av. I wouldnt waste a mid spot on Hodgey. Put him in your backline. Also lee have a read of some of the comments about regarding the rookies. Plenty of good ones for the fwd line

        General Soreness · 24/02/2015 at 16:27

I wont pick the Prince just purely on principle. He would breach my teams no d heads policy.

I N Pieman · 24/02/2015 at 14:32

The herald sun just published the 50 most popular players so far for SC. Most people as I expected looked at Christian Salems av from last season & dismissed him. This highlights the importance of preseason research. Those that have been doing it know he’s an absolute lock!

    General Soreness · 24/02/2015 at 16:16

Hopefully word gets out, I have a bottle riding on him hitting 18% with Mitch. The fact that Kruezer is still at 19.62 and Petracca at 16.24% respectively gives me comfort.

      I N Pieman · 24/02/2015 at 16:42

18% not sure about that General. If he tears it up in nab that could happen. The fact that 20% have kruz & Petrecca is a good laugh.

        General Soreness · 24/02/2015 at 16:47

Yeah might cost me a bottle!

Nate · 24/02/2015 at 14:45

Hey Guys,

very tough, the structures are pretty much the same as other 15 iterations, but stacked the backline.

Def – Malceski, Shaw, Hibberd, hurn, Newnes, Adcock
(fuller, goddard)
Mid – GAJ, Priddis, Wines, Crouch, Swallow, Wells, VB, Heeney
(Boekhorst, Freeman, Stretch)
Ruck – Nic Nat, Bellchambers
Fwd – Bennel, Swan, T.Lynch, Salem, Hogan, Daniel
(laverde, Krokouer)

    DL123 · 24/02/2015 at 16:12

Hibberd, Hurnm Adcock, Crouch, Swallow, Wells, Bellchambers, Lynch are all risky picks and in my opinion, thats way too many

    General Soreness · 24/02/2015 at 16:12

Massive backline spend, Higgo likes it large in the backline I hear. Not sure Eski is the best bang for your buck unlikely to go bigger priced at average, will drop, also unknown of how he will fare in new team, upgrade target for me. I would drop Eski for anyone else relevant and use coin to get in Pendles, Fyfe etc as I have no idea who you could loop GAJ with on a regular basis. There are some players I personally would not have but we all have our opinions, so I wont go into those as I am sure you have reasoned your selections.

    Seaford Scouse · 25/02/2015 at 18:39

Hey Nate, tough gig this year in Def so understand why people will stack it, this year. Personally I think it’s the better line to trade through but this has been discussed at length so assume your across the pros and cons.

    In regards to player selections in your current structure I would look at the following more closely before setting on them;
Eski – see the Generals comments below
Fuller – does he have a role atm?
Wines & Crouch, both offer similar, I’d go with one and look to upgrade the other, too much risk in your mids as is.
Wells & VB – both injury risks, I’d look to carry one of them at most
Stretch – better rookie options available in the line
Rucks, you have 2 injury risks on the field and a rookie to swing into the forward line but to who? This structure looks unworkable at the moment and will cost you at least 1 trade when the inevitable happens.
    Bennell – very inconsistent still

    Cheers and good luck!

Give It A Go · 24/02/2015 at 15:09

Hi community,

Just been toying with this team so far, roll on the NAB for better rookies starting

Def, Shaw Hodge, Newnes, C-Pearce, Edwards, Goodard (Manteit M and Newman)

Mids Ablett, Pends, Selwood, Danger, Wines, Griffen, Biggs, Boekhorst, (Akins, Freeman and Lambert)

Ruck- Mummy, McEvoy/dog dog and who ever

Fwd Goddard, Martin, Swan, Salem, Hogan, Steel (Daniel and Krokouer)

What do you think, still toying but give us some feed back.

    General Soreness · 24/02/2015 at 16:08

Solid team mate, not sure nipples or atkins will get much of a run but as you said, roll on NAB.

    Donavan · 24/02/2015 at 17:24

Solid team, personally I wont field Hodge or Griffin (just too injury prone for different reasons).

    Like the rest.

scano · 24/02/2015 at 15:49

Newnes at D2 or D3?

    General Soreness · 24/02/2015 at 16:04

Depends on your structure mate, either could be fine.

    Phil · 24/02/2015 at 16:52

I'm considering d4 mate but there's no right or wrong. Some wanna take a risk there due to lack of solid premiums, some wanna play it safe there due to lack of solid rookies….

scano · 24/02/2015 at 16:05

griffen or crouch?

Douglas · 24/02/2015 at 16:13

Who do I have as a F4, Mitchell, Walters or a rookie

    scano · 24/02/2015 at 16:15

depends on your structure. If youre going deep down back then go with a rookie but if youre not I'd take Mitchell over Walters.

      Douglas · 24/02/2015 at 16:22

If i have a deep midfield, rookie?

        scano · 24/02/2015 at 16:50

hows your backline going? and how deep in the midfield?

          Douglas · 24/02/2015 at 16:59

Mid: Ablett, Fyfe, Pendles, Danger, Selwood, Wines
          Back: Shaw, Newnes, Smith, Henderson

            scano · 24/02/2015 at 18:39

Looks like a nice team mate. Mitchell would be a great option to top off your fwd line but with the amount of good fwd rookies we have, you could easily upgrade your D5 position with the money you make from taking a rookie. Your choice.

            Dools · 24/02/2015 at 19:03

Shaw is overs mate check out seasons completed since 2012

              scano · 24/02/2015 at 19:15

Who should be our D1 then dools? Dont know about simpson and think Malceski is over priced

    Donavan · 24/02/2015 at 17:03

I like Walters over Mitchell, and given your back & mid lines, I would go Walters over a rookie also.

George · 24/02/2015 at 16:16

Jack Martin or Tom Bell chambers? Also do people think that Matt Dick, Matt Watson and Ciaran Sheehan would be good defensive picks?

P.S. I may be a bit biased towards the 3 blues, as I am a Carlton man 🙂

    General Soreness · 24/02/2015 at 16:30

I prefer Martin, however some of it might depend on your structure and your R2 risk. To answer your other queries, potentially, No, No.

      George · 24/02/2015 at 16:34

My rucks are Goldstein, Naitanui and Nankervis, though I could go for another bench rookie to allow for a fwd/ruck swing

        Donavan · 24/02/2015 at 17:01

I wouldnt worry about TBC with Goldy & NicNat in the ruck, but I wouldnt pick Jack Martin either, there must be better options at that price point, such as Walters

        General Soreness · 24/02/2015 at 17:43

with those rucks avoid Ding Dong.

          Dools · 24/02/2015 at 21:32

          You said "Ding Dong" LOL

    Phil · 24/02/2015 at 16:49

Unless if Martin averages 90+ in the NAB I can't see him being SC relevant yet. TBC should give you an average in the 80's plus backup so I'd pick him. If Dick plays lock him in at D6 or D7. I'm not convinced on Watson, I don't even know his price but it would have to be under 300k for me to even consider. Don't know nothing about Sheehan.

King Menace · 24/02/2015 at 16:18

Which team is better?

Team 1
DEF: Smith, Shaw, Newnes, Henderson, Goddard, Viojo-Rainbow, McKenzie, Newman
MID: Ablett, Pendles Selwood, Sloane, Wines, Biggs, Boekhorst, Freeman, Vandenberg, Laverde, Lambert
RUC: Goldy, Leuey, Cox
FWD: Goddard, Martin, Swan, Mitchell, Salem, Hogan, Daniel, Krakouer.

Team 2:
DEF: Smith, Shaw, Newnes, Henderson, Edwards, Goddard, Viojo-Rainbow, Newman
MID: Ablett, Pendles, Selwood, Sloane, Fyfe, Wines, Boekhorst, Freeman, Vandenberg, Steele, Lambert
RUC: Goldy, Leuey, Cox
FWD: Goddard, Martin, Swan, Salem, Hogan, Laverde, Daniel, Krakouer.

    General Soreness · 24/02/2015 at 16:28

The one you feel most comfortable with.

    George · 24/02/2015 at 16:36

It’s pretty much Fyfe and Steele versus Mitchell and Biggs. I much prefer team 2, but just be cautious of Fyfes injury worry

    Donavan · 24/02/2015 at 16:58

Team 2 for mine, love Teenwolf, and in season he will play through most injuries (like his shoulders late last year).

    T-MAC · 24/02/2015 at 17:01

Team 2 has a MONSTER midfield. I like team 2 because in the midfield, your guns will score your points and in your forward line, all your rookies will make the cash.

Cyril is Delicious · 24/02/2015 at 16:24

Dusty Martin, or Delidio at F2?

Have Goddard at F1. Cheers!

    General Soreness · 24/02/2015 at 16:27

    Dusty for mine.

    Donavan · 24/02/2015 at 16:56

Delidio if fit, should out-score Martin. Fitness is the issue with Delidio.

King Menace · 24/02/2015 at 16:38

Cheers fellas, but soreness, I was looking from an answer like George gave, not letting me decide aha, I've been pondering for a while so I asked the communities advice. Thanks

    General Soreness · 24/02/2015 at 17:41

Understand that as a community we are all here to help each other and that is what I try to do. Most times I find that even though we can make a case for each team and structure you will end up with one you are more happy with than another. I also try to keep my personal opinions about a certain player out of it. i.e. I dont like Luey as an option at all, but others do not share my view. It does not make him a bad selection, that is just my opinion and not fair to impose that on another. So by suggesting that you find the one your comfortable with I was trying to help and not being dismissive. For the record Fyfe comes with injury concerns but is a SC beast but shares a bye with Pendles and GAJ which must be considered. As an upside Fyfe also has best VC loop option for the draw. Mitchell and Biggs are both ? marks but Mitchell is more the known quantity, if ASADA kicks in a team with Edwards has appeal, Skittles wont play rnd1. For mine Team 2 appeals more.

      King Menace · 24/02/2015 at 17:46

      Cheers Soreness

I would justlike to point out however , $458k should just be turned over as a D 2/3? If you pick him and I rate the Pick He has to be this season from the start your D1…. I will qualify this…In my SCmind more then 450K for a defender is money lost.
Fridge is calling me got to go for cheap beers…Whoohoo Upgrading to Carlton Draught>>>>

    JoeWoolcock · 24/02/2015 at 21:03

I reckon he's improved a lot down back over the past few years but is just too inconsistent to be a viable option at his price. Will score well again but better options will present themselves in NAB. That said, if you trust his ability in a Dees backline that's sure to get its fair share of the ball, would be a definite POD.

Higgo, you said the Fisherman was priced to average 92.

This is incorrect. He is prices at only 83. Bargain.

hey guys need some opinions
luenberger vs bellchambers
whos the better R2 for 2015

    PJ8 · 25/02/2015 at 08:29

Berger for R2, Get TBC in the forward line as coverage for the injury prone Berger

Deeman · 25/02/2015 at 06:39

Would have to go with Bellchambers, think he will be a great stepping stone to Jacobs or Goldy. No 1 ruck pos is his at bombers, Luey will share ruck duties at lions with Martin. TBC has scored well in the past when Ryder hasnt played.
