Stuff the tennis and stuff the cricket – podcasts going on! You little beauty
A man with his priorities in fine order! Good man Jai
Jaysus….you blokes have perfect timing!
You might remember I am living out here in Timor-Leste (East Timor), it's dengue season, there's people with amoebic dysentery left right and center, me old mate Hem-o-roid is playing up and this afternoon my Mrs had to leave me to go back to Darwin…..so as you can imagine I am a bit down in the mouth tonight, jumped into bed early, just ordered myself the JR Magazine and them when the page refreshed I find a new bloody podcast to keep me company!!! Brings a tear to me eye it does having you blokes in my life. Now why is that vaseline jar next to the tissues?
You're an inspiration Hazey! Hope you enjoy the show mate. Also – old home remedy for the Haemo-roids. Bit of an ice block up the pip mate. By the time she melts – grapes be gone.
Hey Jock….as I will be heading to Sydney next week for a wedding then off on my honeymoon any chance on changing the delivery address on the magazine I just ordered using PayPal to the hotel in Sydney instead of my dear old Ma's place down in Tassie? Is this possible given the time constraints? Is there anyway I can PM you (that's private message not Prime Minister, although I reckon you'd be a lot more popular than the current bloke)!?
Nice one Jock… Watching the tennis n Murray not a happy chappy might need to pop round with some of that as he's got a bit of that happening up the old coight too! Ordering the magazine as we speak!
Blown away from the response to my question and the wisdoms that spilled forth.
Love the crooning Higgo. Considering ol' Higgins as well. Considering although may be better D3 gold at a cheaper price. The prem F1-F5 seems like a stretch, given your M6 is Griffen. What happened to Tyson, Higgo?
Crouching One, I am no stranger to your birthplace of Pyanmah. In fact I met your cousins Squatting Deuce and Cheng Li Felch who have told me many of your own exploits in the self-satisfying arena. Hope to make it back there one year for the annual Pyanmah Rum Rub Out festival.
Well done, gents.
Not you too, Throtts? I was all for picking Higgins last year, but just can't bare the thought of giving him a crack this year. Just do not like him at all. I'll give him a chance to prove me wrong, but I don't have him in my initial side.
My midfield seems to be going along the same lines as Higgo, except I have Brad Crouch as my M6, though who I have above him changed about 16 times over the past two hours when I was having a tinker with my side. Can't find the cash to go really deep in my forward line to cover 5 players, but I still have some cash reserves I could pull out of my defence.
And as for Jock worrying about Danger being played out of position for the Crows to prepare for life without him. I don't think that'll happen at all. As Crouching One said, you play to win, and the only chance the Crows have of keeping Danger around is by winning as many games as possible and making a big push into the top 8. They'll do that by playing him in the midfield, not plonking up forward where the Crows already have plenty of goal kickers. I'm sure he'll rotate through there, but I don't think he'll spend the majority of him time in the F50. My Crow coloured glasses tell me that in a healthy Dangerfield in a midfield that work as a unit, he will have a big chance to put up a 2012 type average. Still may be inconsistent which prevents you from making him a starting pick, but I think he'll be in a lot of teams by the end of the season.
Ha. Well, Higgins served me well last season. Made a good chunk of change off him. New team and delicious DPP to boot. EVERYONE should be considering him. He made good last year so he's less likely to burn. Definitely, though, one to watch during NAB.
Like you going back and forth on my M6. Like Crouch, yet has a knack for getting hurt and not playing a full season. Dom Tyson seems a less risky pick at that price. Leaning, though, on going Griff for M6 and Danger as M5. Not 100%
What do you think about Higgo going all prem to F5? Seems like you have to give up some prems in either your mid or back line to make that happen. Unless it's fallen prem madness. If I were going to do that, Mayne would be a tasty F5. But the cost…
Agree with Danger. First year coach and Walsh doesn't seem like he would sacrifice a loss to make a petty point. Danger is cheap and he seems a man who probably wants more than anything make amends for last season's effort.
Yea, Crouch has had his injury issues in the past, that's why i'm going for him now. His first full pre-season, if he can stay healthy he's definitely a better player than his current price sits at. I've actually had a few teams with both Crouch and Tyson in it, but took Tyson out since I had a few iterations of my side with Ben Newton, Jesse Hogan and Billy Stretch, so I was cutting down on my Melbourne players.
Couldn't find the cash to go both M6 and F5 as full keepers unless I totally decimated my DEF line, but that depends on what Higgo considers as a "premo" keeper in the forward line. Dane Swan I can see as having that potential, but Tom Mitchell? He could be, but there's also a chance he sits on a 85-90 average too.
I cannot get M6 or F5 either Barron, 4/5/2/4 for me, could sacrifice another Def but I am reluctant to do so.
Only way I found to get M6 and F5 to work is if Swallow/Crouch is the M6 and a sub $400K fallen like Mayne is the F5. That's not bad yet the real rub is that you have have to keep all your mid rooks under $130K so no mature agers (which is probably a deal breaker for me).
Good point about Titch. I'm wondering how many are considering him a keeper? As a F4, I view Titch as someone who will start red hot yet get me to a Robbie Gray rather than keep him around. No full season yet so that would be my reasoning to offload him.
Throttleclaw – lol
Reckon we'll be queuing up to the speakpipe to see who can get the best dis from Crouching.
Just can't bring myself to trust Missy after one good season.
Thoughts on Astbury in the D3/4 realm?
Meh on Ashbury. Vlaustin would be a more intriguing pick yet still doused in risk.
Who's Astbury?
Higgins sits aloft in his own realm of Burnmen, those that had him last year avoided the 3rd degree burns that this man will inflict when he goes down in sporadic bursts of injury. I had to go and get and extension to my 10ft pole just to talk about Higgins.
He's more bogeyman than burnman at this point. Still leaning towards Docherty, Hampton or even Seedsman. But Higgins shows some solid form during NAB will be hard to not consider him as a D3.
That's a big BUT! Hampton….someone has been doing lots of research! Let's hope he gets his body right.
Hahaha. It is a big BUT. And more and more I go over CH's numbers, I'm liking him more and more as a D3. Plus, as a GWS fan I really like the way the kid plays ball. Not sure but his on the short list, General.
Nice work on the podcast Throttle.
Your question definitely created some healthy discussion in the studio.
Throttle is bloody brilliant isn't he! Thanks for your kind words also t woof
Just a product of the Inner Sanctum and the community.
Thanks T-woof. I'm actually gonna have a second listen to it today. My footy brain isn't as steep in strategy as most of you vet SCers are.
Yyesterday tried to do an F5 with a fallen prem…bonkers Higgo, bonkers.
Have you been studying some stats my friend?
Yes, and enjoying that spreadsheet very much, my man. Thanks again.
I had Hampton on my radar last year, but didn't go with him. Averaged like 89 over the first part of the year, but then got injured and was garbage after that. Still thinking about him though.
Yeah, he's on my short list for D3/4.
Plus he's put the work in. pic.twitter.com/WzQ1DrCEig
Jock, re Jock Member Club, why do we have to pay in $U.S, can you set it up so it's just purely an $ AUD transaction.
Gday Gold – good question mate – I'll have to look into that over the preseason
My midfield sits gary abblet rockclif steve j scott selwood b boddard n van berlow petrica and hensley from the swans forwards are ryder frnklin tex walker dane swann hogan and mitch clarke dont want say anymore and give away my team any thoughts
Nick, I don't believe Steve Johnson is going to help your team out. The man will frustrate the living daylights out of you. Some weeks he can go big, but other weeks he really struggles. Also, he is accustomed to some brain fades, which lead to him getting suspended. He also has some injury niggles. Beware.
Agreed T-Mac. Plenty jumped on him last year after a purple patch at over 600k. You'll find those people in The Alfred Burns Unit. T-Mac you invited into the Piefloaters League for regular commenters on the site. 185967 mate. Same goes for Twoof Tman Sarah Phil Seaford Dools
Cheers Pieman!! I'm truly honoured!
Cheers Pieman!
Awesome!! Thanks INP.
Will join now mate.
Thanks INP. I Think????? Lol
S. Selwood on limited pre season training and will miss round 1 according the Adam Simpson. 4 KPF's is madness!
Thats Goddard
Great stuff old fellas. I just ordered the magazine and am very keen to have a good read.
Higgo did I get this right?
4 premo defenders
6 premo midfielders
1 premo ruckman
5 premo forwards
The fact that you can fit that many “premiums” into a team is worrying. Are they actually premium scorers?
Higgins 2014 ave: 76
D. Thomas 2014 ave: 75
Ziebell 2014 ave: 83
These are not premium numbers. Jock is right, these players will end up being a turd in your jock. They are not premium they are turds rolled in glitter.
You have too many risky picks:
Higgins, Thomas, Ziebell, Swan, Mitchell, Naitanui, I’m assuming one of Leu, Kreuz, Giles or TBC. Swan, Mitchell and maybe Natanui sound good but throw in the rest and it’s a disaster waiting to happen. The others are list cloggers.
Agreed too much risk. There was a reference to value, but I personally think their 2014 averages are about right for the output they are likely to provide, the only one I would consider taking a risk on is Daisy Thomas.
They are good value for the price but I don’t think those 3 will all be graduating to premium status. I believe they’ll stay in no mans land. Then you’re stuffed because it’s not worth burning a trade to upgrade. Unless you think they will be keepers, why spend more than $400 on a player?
$400 000 haha. At $400 I’m still not sold on either of those 3.
Personally not an enormous fan of Ziebell. Like Jelwood, is prone to injury the way he throws himself about, plus high suspension risk. Best return has been 21 games (2011), missed 4-6 games each year since. HUUUGE variability in his scoring too – can go big (145 best last year, 161 year before) but puts in too many stinkers (looks like 13x sub-70 games over last 3 years including 6 last year (excluding his green vested game)). Based on this, i'd expect him to bounce around in the $400k-$500k price range for most of the year – in which case you've got plenty of time to get him in
I think Higgo is on the juice.
Agreed. And you'll have to give up some mature age rookies in your midfield. Not worth it.
Well I have a great back line as well brodie smith marchbank jack newnes m jhonstone b waters and z jhones good team or not ruck nic nat kruzer I think my team is a great team anyone agree
Bloody fantastic gents.
As a Premo M5 or M6 what do you guys think of A Miles from the Tigers tore up the midfield in the 2nd half of last year I think he is only going to get better
Solid POD selection, history shows that many guys fall away after breakout year. So NAB form is a must watch, but I tend to agree with you, he may just keep getting better.
Must confess ive been thinking about Miles. Agree with General I'm a little nervous after such a stunning season last year. His arrival & Maric coming back was critical to the winning streak.
Thanks guys re assures what I’ve been thinking going to be watching very closely over the nab cup
Nab form is important as Toby Greene had a massive first season and turned to mud in his second. Great POD if he improves on last year
Yes, need to be careful but he is a 23 mature age so been in system for a while.
He is definitely in my team this year, I'm with you muddiemoose
Been thinking about him myself Muddiemoose. Very interesting prospect.
Cheers Mudds! I hear what you blokes are saying about Miles – and he could well be a solid selection – but not on my radar at this stage
Brilliant listen as always gents, Maso = gold, I hope your feeling better soon.
Going along nicely should be able to eat and talk more in couple weeks , good thing i can fit a straw in so beer can still flow 😛 was excited about doing a speak-pipe message forgot i couldn't speak clearly lol
Kudo's to vcloophole, very generous mate, not my side of town but if I am ever passing through I will make sure I pop in and make a few purchases in support.
Cheers General. Look forward to saying g'day
I currently have 5 premo mids with 6 rookies. Ablett, Pendles, Fyfe, Selwood, Sloane, Cripps, Boekhorst, Heeney, Freeman, Steele, Lambert. Listening to the podcast, the boys don't seem convinced on Selwood's scores seeing as though clutch points doing count as much. What are peoples thoughts on Selwood? If your answer is a no, who would you suggest to fill his spot.
Jelwood will be in the top five or at least top 10 mids come the end of the year. Whether you pick him or not will come down to team structure and strategies, for me Jelwood is an upgrade target around the byes.
Selwood is in my team at the moment Dusty. He's a gun. You getting some more Mid time this year I hear Dusty?
Yes Pieman, coach is going to give me a crack in the middle and Lids a go up forward, just hope I have the tank
My only concern with with Selwood is his propensity to suffer from concussion due to his manner of play. Great footballer, usually have him as a keeper but wary about the head knocks.
A red vest could well mean we get to snaffle him up for sub-$550k.. Last year Joel started like a TRAIN.. but in 2012 and 2013 he started slowly and was a prime upgrade around the byes. Fingers crossed for a repeat!
Bang on Kraken, this is where my thinking is at re Jelwood.
Agree. Especially with Cats starting first two games vs Hawks and Freo that price will probably be heading down.
Throtts, Jelwood normally goes very well against the Hawks. Against the Dockers, I expect him to avoid the hard tag, which ALWAYS goes to Stevie J courtesy of the SC wrecker of dreams, Crowley.
Dusty can you guarantee me 30 touches 80% DE & 2 goals a game. If you can I'm going to lock you away.
Dusty I reckon he is the biggest lock going around. I can think of a reason why you wouldn't pick any midfielder (even Gaz) but Selwood I cant…..I honesty reckon he can average 130 this year. Easy to forget he is just 26. Limited pre-season last year, 2 massive scores (that won't affect his price) from losing finals. Lock him up and throw away the key.
Selwood. I've always been reluctant to start with him and I don't see that changing this year. He's been in my final round team since forever. Personally I'd turn him into Swallow and use the extra $ to upgrade NVB to a non-tagger.
If you are looking at some value picks, what do you think of players like Wells @ $361K and Jack Steven @ $455K in midfield instead of forwards like Higgins and Thomas?
Wells and Steven are closer to "keepers" for mine. Even if Wells gets injured as per the norm I could see him appreciating $150K at some point.
Valid choices as stepping stones, I do not think Wells will ever provide enough value to be a keeper but as a stepping stone has merit. Steven could very well be a keeper.
I’d consider wells a decent midpricer but only if he has a rocking preseason. Can’t fit him into my structure anyway.
I’ve put stevens in my side for now, as I think he has what it takes to carry his team and IMO avg in the top 10.
I don't hate picking Wells, he should bounce back to a decent price and if you time it right, you should be able to upgrade him to a fallen premium for under 100K. That's one rookie downgrade, and you can upgrade Wells. We've seen in previous seasons that guys like Joel Selwood and Matt Priddis have been at very reasonable prices half way through the year. There will likely be someone like that again in 2015.
Steven is debatable at the moment. The talent is there, but playing in a young and inexperienced midfield, it's likely he'll be a major target for the taggers, which could see him not reach his full potential. But as we saw in 2013, if he hit a 110 average, or close to, buying him at 455K is a great deal.
Got a mate at North, Wells has a sore foot. Avoid.
I’m going guns and rookies in the midfield. Feel I learnt my lesson from Thomas last season. Wasted trade
Great poscast as always Gents. VCloophole you are a champion.
Cheers Pie – and agee on VC – great gesture
Very happy to help the community Pieman. Just got my copy and am devouring it. Ripping read!
Thank you VCLoop this was an outstanding Effort by yourself on behalf of the JR Community . I hope your SCTeam makes it to the top 50 . If There is anything I can do to help in future endeavors like wine/beer tasting let me know as I have a significant pallet to Ellivate you of stock!!! My fridge is up for the challange mate… Cheers you made it to my People I need to know list.
I hate auto correct
Hey community!
Jeez, doesn't it feels good to be back!
I'd like to get the communitys thoughts on Mr.Thomas Mitchell up at the Swans.
Is he gonna get some game time this year?
If he does and avoids the green vest, LOCK! He is currently in my team.
Yep… also ready to get burnt a second time (shame on me)
With Malceski gone, hopefully McVeigh goes back to HBF again and there is room in the engine room for Titch. Have read in the usual places that Heeney is likely to get a shot early doors – so surely HE's more likely to be a vest candidate (along with usual suspects B.Jack, J.Lloyd etc). Surely as a 3rd year player Titch sees less of the vest?
Word from Horses mouth today was that Gary Rohan is being primed for the Eski replacement role, yes you heard correctly! But I'm thinking no truth has ever come from a coaches mouth to any media ever therefore by stating this openly it wont happen. McVeigh is the obvious choice with his experience to act as the onfield coach across that line.
Sounds like a ruse to suck me into starting with Rohan for a third time!
That could suck a few in. If I had Gary Rohan in my team I wouln't be able to look at my PC.
Could not agree more GS but TMit ch better be up and about he is locked in at F 4.
Thanks all. Titch is penciled in with a watch n wait tag next to his name.
Outstanding podcast lads!!
Loved it when Jock got worked up after Higgo mentioned Shaun Higgins and Dale Thomas….so good.
Agree with Jock, wouldn't select either of them.
Great podcast guys!!
Higgo, I'm very worried about your team…
Yes, great concern for Higgo's team. Ziebell, Higgins and Dale Thomas. If that is not risk taking behaviour I don't know what is. I wonder if his dear old mum knows. The community may have to be ready to catch him, if he falls. I see this ending in tears. Hope we don't see him as a fallen guru on the b string cabaret circuit.
American style Intervention required?
It may be required. His team reeks of a smart man outhinking himself…..Or he could be completely right and he's just a under-appreciated Supercoach genius!
We are probably all guilty at one stage or another of overthinking supercoach selections and strategy.
Indeed General, something I was guilty of last year. It's part of the reason I've been tinkering less this year and going with my initial gut calls. Of course it's entirely possible that my gut calls backfire as much as my overthought ones!
I cant worry for Higgo! That’s Jocks bag….I m worried for myself with a back line that is not full string . A 3 starting Ruc capability and I have 2 premo mids. How Peter got to F 6 with Griff well that’s his mathematical Mills and Boon……Not for everybody. And definitely not in my comprehension!!!
I wouldn't put Ziebell, Higgins and Thomas in my team if you paid me!!!
agree with Sarah 100%, all have a history of getting injured and until Daisy goes and gets the pill, he won't be any chance in my team.
Hi Sarah, value your comment, have you had a look at T Bugg?
Hi Kevwal, I just had a look at his scores from last year and he's no chance for my team.
Thanks Sarah. Heard Seedsman had surgery, any truth in it?
You heard correct!
Your no fence sitter Sarah. Just blatantly decisive.
Thanks Sarah! Had a ball bringing it to you mate. Yes.. I think we need to knock some stains out of Higgs current lineup.
Jock I reckon Higgo is playing us all on a break – his good natured genius has morphed into throwing cunningly brilliant red bloody herrings like Ziebell and Daisy into the mix! He's a wily old bloody fox that one. Looks like he's playing for keeps this year; keep an eye on him old mate!
Hi everyone, my current midfield premos are: Ablett, pendles, jelwood, jpk, danger and stevens. I believe these guys will be in the top 10 by the end of the year. However this has left me with only 2 set and forget premos in def and ruck, and 3 premos up fwd.
Should I replace a mid ultra-premo to a value premo in order to add another value premo to one of def or fwd?
If it helps, I'm probably only going to start with 4 (maaaaaybe 5) premos in the midfield as I did last year. Then look for value as the season progresses.
Hmmm yeah three extra mid slots does give extra leeway to swap around starting rookies. That's it, I've changed to D3, M5, R2 and F4!
Is anyone considering a couple of the Freo boys? Walters and Mayne in particular? My gut is telling me Walters could have a huge year.
Mayne could be a great pick, T-Mac. Did really well in 2013, but didn't hit the scoreboard nearly as much last year. 382K isn't a bad price to consider taking a risk on a guy who could average 90 again, especially up forward.
I will declare my purple passion before making this statement. Take Walters over Mayne. Look at Walters in 2013, his form and consistency. Last year he suffered what should have been a season injury and fought his way back to fitness and performed exceedingly well after such a long lay off. He was a sensational junior midfielder and although he doesn't have the big body he has the smarts to rotate through the midfield. I am an unabashed fan of Son Son! Bargain.
I'm a g-town man so i actually feel a little sick as I write this but I think walters is a super classy player… (BLuuugh *vom) Was also thinking he might have a big year, but its so hard to take the gamble on him whilst wearing these hoop lensed glasses…
Just had to say ….I went to the above mentioned bottle shop. To purchase my copy of The Bible. I was as happy as 10 happy things. I was surrounded by grog sold at very reasonable prices Plus I got the mag. Unfortunately The book opened up to the ‘Centerfold’ on the passenger seat as I drove over the Westgate and the glare from the glossy reflected up on the windscreen. I had to veer several lanes to shake off the liberal man driving a volvo. He took off to Willy town when I bumbed him off the road. Now for a good read with beer in hand repeating the mantra. “Don’t look at the cetre spread’ Lol
Very sneaky to insert such a sensuous and frankly arousing centrefold in the mag. How many Community members have had their copy "borrowed" by the missus? How many marriage proposals and offers of illicit nudey congress has Jock already received? Hope the Bungalow doors have been built to withstand the impending mob of insatiable females drunk on, and amorously charged by, the majesty of Jock Reynolds in his absolute prime
I'm worried about this centrefold. I was wondering why my GF kept asking "Did you get the magazine yet?" last week. She doesn't normally care about football at all!
Jock, the grape vine is telling me that Vogue and Playboy are fast approaching for a scoop, Slay em Jock!
Ahh shit Dools…I missed ya mate. My offsider must've sorted you out with a mag. Pop in and say g'day if you're ever in the area bud!
Done Sir. I got the 1st copy from the box! Best thing I have have done in ages
Picture this, page opens to the centrefold and the lovely catches a glimpse.
Her: What are you looking at?
Me: the new Supercoach magazine, research darls
Her: Who is that in the middle mostly naked?
Me: Its Jock Reynolds, the Father of Fantasy.
Her: He certainly is……
P!ssing right now Dools!
GOLD!!!
LOL. Like you can read.
Ripper of a podcash JR team. Time for my 259th revision of my team. lol
Current team,
D: Hibberd, Birchall, Newnes, Waters, Whitecross, Rainman, D McKenzie, Hoggard
M: Abblett, Rockliffe, Pendles, Selwood, Fyfe, Heeney, Boekhorst, Leverde, Freeman, Vandenberg, Krakouer
R: Nicnat, Kruz, M Cox
F:Goddard, Dildo, Swan, Ziebell, Hogan, J Steele, Karpany, C Daniel
Just over 100k left
Give it to me straight … I can take a flog.
PS: Pieman where is my invite!!?? :0(
That looks pretty solid to me Tman, good job. Great core of MIDS with Ablett, Rocky, Pendles, Selwood and Fyfe and FWD line looks OK too. Newnes and Ziebell could be mid priced busts, but could work out too, so I won't tell you they're absolutely terrible picks. Listen to your gut and if it says go with them, then do that. I'd likely just continue to monitor the side over pre-season and the NAB Cup games and see how it looks closer to the season.
Thanks BV for the feedback. The Ruck might bite me in the a$$. Also im a little heavy on round 12 bye. Makeshift Def line too.
Gettign mixed signal from the poor old gut. Plan is to establish a fwd ruck link early. Will definitely be monitoring and tweaking as the NAB cup gets underway..
I'm going the same Gun Mid setup.
Like the look of your team Tman,
Love the midfield, wouldnt change a thing.
NicNat is a certainty, not sure about Kruz (i would go Berger)
Concerns with Newnes (in such a poor team)
Like the forward like.
All in all im sure that your 300th team will be a slight improvement.
Thanks Gold and Donavan. Not sold on Newnes and he drifts in and out of my team. Keepign a close eye on kruz for nab cup ruck/fwd time spent and form. Agree he's may chew up an early trade.
What are people's thoughts on Jed Adcock? With defensive options being limited this year I think he could be a keeper. Priced at 418,000, he could be a valuable asset. Reasons behind this idea is that Adcock has been a proven scorer of the past, but since Brisbane became an average team, his scores have dropped, evident as he scored more in wins than losses last year. With Hanley out of the radar for the first 5 rounds and with no pressure of the captaincy, I reckon that adcock could become a consistent rebounding defender, especially with Brisbane likely to win more games. Thoughts?
You make a great case for him, Matt. Can't disagree with any of that. If he can post his 2013 numbers he will be great value as you rightly pointed out with the lack of options. Now on my watchlist
Cheers Kev, will definitely be one to watch in NAB
Great podcast fellas. I hope my mag got posted today can't wait to read it!
Mine didn’t come BC. I can’t stand the suspense anymore. I get home from work and with no mag it’s like waking up as a kid and realising Santa hasn’t come yet. Hopefully tomorrow
Yer same I hope mine comes toommorow
Got mine yesterday. Over delivers on all *ahem!..centrefold* fronts!
Awesome high-level strategic articles abound.
would it be a good idea to wait for ablett seeing that his price cant go any higher, meaning he will drop
Dunno jma, ask yourself the question….Do you wanna end up with the most expensive team you possibly can or the most points you could possibly make? If it's the latter, pick him.
Agree with Phil on this one mate. Set and forget, perma-captain, and you'll be missing out on his bonkers scores while you wait for him to drop maybe 50-60k. Remember when selecting a POD (in this case not selecting ablett is a POD) you want that player to be able to outscore the more popular choice. No one can match the great man. Then there's the issue of getting him in if he does drop in price.
SC throws up enough problems during the course of the season. If you value your sanity pick the bloke!
Great Podcast Jock!
here is my current team
Back Burgoyne, Shaw, Hibberd, Houli, Waters, H.Goddard ( Rainbow and McKenzie)
Mid: Pendelz, Selwood Treloar, Dal Santo, Bennell, Rich, Van Berlo, Cripps( Heeney, Lavarde, Krakouer)
Ruck: Kreuzer, Bellchambers ( Read)
Forward: Ryder, Roughy, Dahlhaus, Walker, Clark, Hogan ( Karpany, J Steele)
I have around 30k in the bank. Do you think i need any improvements.
Very nice team Rob, some unique picks, though it is always best to go with your gut. One thing that should be adjusted is moving Bennell to your forward line at the expense of one of your forward premiums (unless you rate them above Bennell). This is due to the fact that better midfield options can be bought at that price compared to Bennell. I see you want to establish DPP across all lines, but you already have Laverde in your mid, so there is really no need, since you can trade DPP in during the season. Apart from that your team is shaping up very nicely.
Cheers Matt I will take your idea into concideration
Thanks Rob.
Great advice, Matt, There is plenty of time to open up your swingsets Rob. Don't stress about it early on. Love the dahlhous selection. Could very well go bananas this year.
I can see a few basic personnel problems (no ablett and too many KPF's) so I suggest to keep visiting back regularly to the site and have a read of the 100-odd player reviews that some of the guys in community have put together.
HI Rob. Are you sure you've only got 30k left? I don't see $9,997,000 worth of points in that team.
This is my team as it stands, any thoughts or predicted score?
DEF: H.Shaw, M.Hibberd, S.Docherty, B.Waters, T.Clurey, H.Goddard
MID: G.Ablett, S.Pendlebury, N.Fyfe, P.Dangerfield, R.Griffen, A,Swallow, I.Heeney, J.Laverde
RUC: S.Jacobs, M.Leunberger (and a fwd swing for bellchambers)
FWD: B.Deledio, D.Swan, T.Mitchell, T. Bellchambers, C.Salem, M.Clark
130k left
I'll have a crack Tom.
DEF: 95+90+85+85+55+55=465
MID: 270+125+120+115+110+105+70+65=980
RUC: 110+90=200
FWD: 105+105+90+85+75+75=535
TOTAL: 465+980+200+535=2180
Thanks a lot PHIL!!
Yeah you're a few light in the midfield.
What would you recommend Redgumwon?
Tom I'm waiting to see how Beams goes in the NAB Cup and the other Brisbane players before committing to any of them. I like what you have but the bye rounds worry me with when 3 of your guns will be missing. I toyed with the same idea but changed. I'm thinking of going with Gazza, Fyfe, Selwood (Beams can replace either Fyfe or Selwood if I want) Dangerfield, WInes, (Love Ollie and I can only see him getting better) A. Swallow. I'm also going to keep a very close watch on Pendles, Beams, Treloar, Shuey (with the soft draw this year a WC mid has to stand out) And last of all a real roughie Caddy
I'd love to have 6 real good mids but the more I'm thinking about it I may sacrifice M6 and pump the money into getting two gun rucks to set and forget with no back up
Don't mind his M3-M6, Red. All 3 are proven scorers who are capable of hitting the 600k mark
You're missing a fwd,mid and def and I don't think that your 130k is enough to get them.
Great podcast boys, picked up my mag today worth the spend. My structure is set and I'm going nicely.
Let me have your feedback, be it negative or positive, I don't care.
Backs: Smith, Shaw, Hibberd, Newnes, Waters, Goddard, Viojo-Rainbow, Newman
Mids: Ablett, Pendles, Fyfe, Selwood, Sloane, Cripps, Boekhorst, Heeney, Freeman, Lambert, Steele
Rucks: Goldstein, Leuenberger, Cox
Forwards: Delidio, Goddard, Swan, Clark, Salem, Laverde, Daniel, Krakouer
It's nice to see someone else going for the 4 premo defenders!! Nice team!
Like the team I have gone nearly the same backline although I have gone yeo instead of smith and go 6 deep in the mids. I’m a tad lighter up forward but think more forward rookies will play and appreciate more then the defensive rookies
This is a cracker T-MAC. Reckon you downgrade one of your D1-D4 and take advantage of another DPP forward instead of Clark. Plenty of high scoring options up front
cheers boys
I'm thinking of going with Nic Nat and Blicavs (MID) as my 2nd ruckman. I think he has improved each year so far and if he plays wing / ruck he could increase his out put. He is never misses games and could be a very handy stepping stone to a premium ruck down the line. What do you guys think about Blicavs? I
Not on my radar, Red. Glancing through his numbers he has never been a high scorer. Low numbers in possessions, marks and hitouts don't help. Don't see him making enough cash to turn him into a top ruckman
Blicavs plays everywhere, mid, ruck, def, fwd which makes him handy for Geelong. He does none of them well which makes him irrelevant for SC.
Thanks guys Blicavs is now off the radar. I might be better trying to work out a combo of any of these making sure I have a premium and a cheapie. Goldy, Nic Nat, Hickey, Leuy,
got these four premiums in my team, ablett, rockliff, pendelbury and fyfe is this too top heavy?
Wouldn’t recommend rocky mate
I'm doing the same Johnston, think they'll be right amongst the top scores this year
No way Johno that's a great start. All proven guns and all will be in the winners team at seasons end so you may as well start with em.
I need help, luke dalhaus or tom Mitchell? or is there someone else I should select around there price? Allen Christensen?
Well done Tommy recognizing that you need help is the first step to recovery.
Which of them do you think will be in your team at the end of the season?
I'm leaning towards Mitchell but not sure what his role will be at the swans. In saying that i'm not sure if dalhaus had his breakout season last year
I agree with that and if I was you I'd be trusting my instincts, they seem to be pretty good.
Dahlhaus is a spud!
Traded him in late last season as a POD, and he was absolutely putrid! Dogs won't be any better this year either.
Tom Mitchell,
Any other 400K > player
Daylight
Rookies
More Daylight
Mitch Clark
Patty Karnevis
Even More Daylight
GasChambers
Dahlhaus
For now I'd go with Dahlhaus until we are a bit more certain of Mitchell's role at the Swans (or indeed if he has one). Bundy is an unknown at the lions as to where he fits in
Community this is my current line up, would love to have your thoughts on my line up so far. Cheers
DEF: K.Simpson, B.Smith, J.Newnes, D.Rampe, B.Waters, H.Goddard (N.Brown, D.Rainbow)
MIDS: G.Ablett, T.Rockliff, N.Fyfe, R.Griffen, A.Swallow, N.Van Berlo, I.Heeney, N.Freeman (B.Boekhorst, A.Vandenberg, J.Laverde)
RUC: N.Naitanui, M.Leuneberger (T.Read)
FWD: B.Goddard, L.Dahlhaus, D.Swan, T.Mitchell, M.Clark, J.Hogan ( J.Steele, C.Daniel)
I have $99,800 left.
There are few players who I am very unsure about in my line up such as Rampe, would love the communitys advice. Cheers
Gday Dutchy IMO you have 1-2 too few proven gun mids, 1-2 too many +500k Defs. I think Vandenberg is still a rookie so can't play unless upgraded to senior list. Mitch Clark has already broken down with that troublesome calf so I'd be looking elsewhere for an F5
What do you recommend I do?
Cheers for the advice for the advice
It's pretty obvious mate, take from where you have too many and give to where you have too few.
Boom! Lol
At the moment rocking these mids…Gaz Pendles Jelwood Danger Griff
Would love to throw JPK in there too, but reckon it might be overkill.. Thoughts?
If your structure works then go for it, Rainman. No rules saying you can't have 6 mids over 500k
Love JPK! Set and forget. Just don't EVER rely on him as your captain old foe. VC maybe, but he has a nasty habit of only playing to the level of his poorer opposition; only accumulating 110 when he should be smashing out 150+.
Hope you haven't forgot about the country folks Jock sir? still yet to grip the holy scripture in my twitching hands!! I want my precious
, bring me my magazine!!!! im going to belt the next mail man I see and demand an answer!!!
Keep changing me rucks.
Originally had Nic nat, maric, cox (Ryder in fwd)
Now for goldy maric cox
maric or nic nat is the question??
Go the more athletic type of ruckman. I'm thinking now that hit outs are just as important as what the ruckmen do around the ground. Nic Nat hits his targets or get his own taps a lot
I am VERY bullish on Nic Nat. Number one ruck, has completed his first ever injury free pre-season, will dominate hitouts to advantage. Will surely pick up more general possessions with his healthy body…reckon he'll be $600k by mid-year.
Maric, huge ceiling but has had grumbly groins the last few years. You can just about guarantee he'll only play 18-20 games, and of those, he'll be carrying those little injury niggles in 2 or 3 of them.
Jock i'm back after a horror last year where i quit by round 16 due to every player getting injured for long stints.
Word on the street is that Daisy is flying (and injury free). Heard a few rumors on Big Footy that Mick might be using him off Halfback and Midfield. I'm sure we can all agree that last season was absolutely bloody shocking for him. But with Simo as there backline sweeper getting on and Walker a while off I reckon they could benefit from his class. I think i'll pick him.
Like a beast to the culling house. Follow your gut and I don’t think you will make it to the byes mate. But then again inspired move . I do hope your in my league. Nuff said?
Ouch!
But cezza93 did crack the sulks after round 16 and run away like a weak cactus feature so its deserved.
Harsh but fair. Used all my trades though haha.
Cezza Daisy is flying but he wont be in a different role to last year. Docherty and Buckley are the half back delivery men for the next few years at blues and will be eased into the role fully this year.
Can see your point, However that's 4+ running defenders (Simo,Bucks,Doch and Walker). You reckon Simo would increase his time in the mid marginally?
Walker will struggle to get on the park before the bye and Simmo is being weaned out of the lineup.
Good to have you back Cezz! Can't share that enthusiasm re: Daisy though old mate – not yet anyway
Already got ablett/pendles. who for M3 out of:
Boak
Sloane
Rocky
Fyfe
JPK
-Oringially had Boak for a bit of a POD
IMO JPK or Sloane. JPK u know what u r gonna get and I had sloane last yr and he definitely got the job done. Also consider Selwood he is priced high but that is because he is an absolute superstar and gets the job done week in week out. Good luck mate!
Teenwolf will finally reach his potential this year. How scary is that for non-freo people?
Selwood / Beams / Sloane
teenwolf good pick.
i would think to much money ablett pendelbury and jpk ? will not go up much in price. dont forget fyfe ablett pendelbury same bye
hi guys,
