Round 23 Supercoach Scouting Report
Howdy folks and welcome to our very last Supercoach Scouting Report for 2014!
Round 22 was another frustrating week for many with the theme of the round being late outs. Forget all the injuries we saw in Round 21, this time it was the likes of Martin, Pavlich and Nic Nat all being pulled before their games on the weekend. But it’s now Supercoach Grand Final time, so if you find yourself in the big show in your league, congratulations! And if you’ve been eliminated from Finals you’ve still got your overall league ranking to lean back on for bragging rights. Enough talk from me though, we’ve got one final scouting report to deliver, so let’s get cracking and see what we come up with.
Also, remember to look out for the red and green Supercoach scores, RED = bad, GREEN = good which may help you out when it comes to picking your captains for the week
First up is our Top 10 scorers for Round 22
Robbie Gray has his 2nd great week in a row, this time leading the round in Supercoach with a terrific output of 174 Supercoach Points. Back to the winners circle is Tom Rockliff with an awesome score of 170 Supercoach Points, Bomber Michael Hurley also joining him with a season high of 170 Supercoach Points. Shane Mumford makes the list for the 1st time in 8 weeks with 165 Supercoach Points, narrowly edging out Brendon Goddard on 164 and Jack Ziebell was big in the 4th and notched up 145 Supercoach Points.
We must also consider C worthy scores from Hamish Hartlett (132 Supercoach Points), Bernie Vince (131 Supercoach Points), Bryce Gibbs (130 Supercoach Points), Nathan Jones (129 Supercoach Points) and Lance Franklin and Jack Riewoldt (128 Supercoach Points),
And that will leave our season rankings at
Rockliff has edged closer to Ablett, but will not be able to make up the difference required to gain the top spot, meaning the top 2 spots are now locked in place. 3rd place is still up for grabs, with all of Boak, Pendlebury, Liberatore and Mumford all being able to jump up to 3rd. Pendlebury has risen to 5th with his fantastic score in Round 22, with Shane Mumford jumping to equal 6th alongside with the non performing Tom Liberatore. The rest of the list has remained static.

Captain Pick(s):
Robbie Gray has been the man for the Power lately, however everyone is now expecting the Crowley tag to switch up from Travis Boak to Gray, so he may be in line for a tough week. On the flipside that should open things up for Boak and he should put up a much better score than he has in the past against Fremantle.

Captain Pick(s):
Surprisingly this will be the first game for a bunch of Tigers at ANZ Stadium. It’s still not known whether JPK will be lining up in this must win game for the Tigers, but if he does he can be considered a nice VC option as well. Dustin Martin has put up some good scores against the Swans in his last 2 games, and Luke Parker could be another sneaky good choice here as well.

Todd Goldstein up against Mark Jamar should be a matchup in the big Roo’s favour. He’s put up Captain worthy scores in 2 out of his last 3 against the Dees and I think he’ll be a very good chance to extend that streak to 3 out of 4.

We can consider Tom Rockliff our #1 pick for Captain for this week. He missed the Round 2 clash earlier this year due to suspension, but has continued his read hot form and has shown that no matter who or what is put in front of him and Brisbane that he’s capable of putting up a terrific score. For those without Rocky, then Selwood is also a fantastic option in this game as well.

Captain Pick(s):
Will be an unfortunate fairwell to a legend for each club with the Saints Lenny Hayes and Adelaide’s Ben Rutten both playing their final AFL games. Surprisingly Dangerfield has never scored 100+ against the Saints. He was used as a bit more of an outside midfielder last week and had a very productive first half, but quiet in the 2nd. Could be a repeat performance here. Sloane and Jacobs have shown to be the best C choices from the Crows this year and could be again here.

Captain Pick(s):
Mumford was back to his best last week and could find himself against a Minson-less Bulldogs squad after Minson was dropped last week. Ward is still iffy at this stage, but hasn’t scored all that well against his former side in the past. Liberatore hasn’t been putting up C worthy scores in months, so i’d skip him again here.
BARRON VON CROW’S CAPTAIN SELECTION(S):
Rockliff is the main again who’ll be riding into battle with the Big C upon his guernsey for my team. Scott Pendlebury has been elevated to the Captains table once again, this time sitting with the VC on him.
So that’ll do us for our final Scouting Report for 2014. Who are you guys looking at making your last Captain/Vice Captain picks for this year? Let us know in the comments below, or hit us up on the Twitter @BarronVonCrow

Round 23 Supercoach Prices And Breakevens
C on rocky and VC on Jacob. Lock it in.
Should be VC on rocky, loophole C on Jacob
yea i think i might do the same. either jacobs or goddard and ro ky
Rocky VC into Sloan C. Hoping to loophole rocky
Won't be risking the VC on Pendles this week. I think we are going to get pulverised.
Agreed Itchy…
I reckon Lewis has to be considered as a VC option. VS Pies, who (stating the obvious) are severely injury hampered and also missing their number one tagger, Macaffer.
Past record against opposition shows consistent output-But I think he's a huge chance to exceed those sub-110 scores. Will go big IMO.
Barron – on behalf of the whole community I would like to thank you for a STUNNING debut season writing articles this season. Not only that, but for your sensational participation and the help that you give to your community on the social medias.. thank you very much.
You are a shining ornament to this place and we thank you from the bottom of our heart.
Thank you MR BVC!
Thanks Rem, I appreciate it.
Thanks Jock, it was my pleasure to help out the community where I could.
We'll said jock
Cheers Baron
No problems BB.
Here here, Jock!
Easily one of the most valuable and enjoyable reads of each week. The research and insights save many hours of research for who to put the C and VC on.
Plus, you never ignored and held back from giving your insights on Twitter. It was always appreciated as well as good for many laughs.
Your SC wisdom is only outshone by your generosity. And I'm very thankful you are one of the V12 engines that drives this community.
Thanks, Throttle, I appreciate it. I may have to get you to return the favour and pick your brain during NFL season!
No problem, although I'm only well versed in the Browns. NBA I know a bit more…especially this season when the Cavs will be the favorite to win the East (yes, dreams do come true!)
Johnny Football for President
There are quite a few VC and C options this week.
Friday night there are heaps of Hawthorn players that could go bang because now there's no tagger! I'm considering Sam Mitchell.
Franklin saturday arvo v RIchmond
Rocky saturday night v Geelong
Won't be going with Joel Selwood. I think he'll either be rested or put into the forward line
I'm considering either Jacobs or Sloane, but they don't have a very high ceiling and this could be risky. But they are playing for finals & against the saints.
I'm thinking VC on Rocky and then C on Sloane
OR
VC smokey on Sam Mitchell and then C on Rocky
Mitchell could be a good VC smoky Mozz. No Macaffer or any other really recognised tagger
Mitchell hasn't scored above 103 since returning from injury,
Franklin would be a better option, or Jacobs, who can pump out the odd massive score, paired with Rocky.
Six players have medical crosses on them in my midfield. Not sure why Pendles does. Going to have to pull out something special
Doesn't that cross thing just mean that they have done the first aid course?
OMFG!
Mouseover it and it tells you the player is out injured!
Wish I'd known that earlier in the season.
It actually means out this week & completing a first aid course with a naughty nurse!
Wondering please your opinion on Kade Simpson
Has gone totally off the boil recently – corrective trade to Hodgey at this time?
And was NDS's score a lucky break for me last week?
Hi Wes I reckon Simmo might have already had his last 80+ this season. If you have a trade use it.
You can probably get better than Hodgey though
A corrective trade for Simpson could be neccessary, but I see Hodge as making your situation worse. From a POD view the Hodge trade is valid, but I think it would be smarter to pick of Bartel or D.Swallow if funds are limited/
I'm the same as you BVC. I'm going Pendles into Rocky.
Thanks for your great column this year. It has been superb and I've enjoyed reading it every week.
Cheers
Cheers, Wattsie.
I think I might VC Rocky and if Guthrie keeps him to -120 hope that Libba can have a monster.
GWS Griffen should the attention. Libba could go large. Good call
Libba has played GWS 3 times and scored 82, 74 & 46. He doesn't seem to do well against them
I’d rather that than a donut this week
Thanks Mozz I might re-think that and bring Goldy into the equation.
Time to re-rethink that, Womby. Original plan sounded strong enough.
Goldstein rested for the SC granny! Ouch.
Currie back could help a few
Barlow & Murphy named. Very handy. Thank you SC gods maybe only 1 donut
I don’t expect Barlow to play. Likely just one of Lyon’s mind games. Interesting though that Heppell was named one week after breaking his finger. I don’t expect him to play either but you never know…
Important game for Freo. They could jab him senseless
Who will score the most points this round?
S. Pendlebury
J. Selwood
R. Sloane
N. Jones
L. Parker
P. Dangerfield
N. Dal Santo
M. Murphy
A. Swallow
D. Swallow
N. Malceski
J. McVeigh
D. Martin
D. Zorko or
J. Roughead
and who will score second biggest?
In order:
J. Roughead
L. Parker
S. Pendlebury
D. Zorko
R. Sloane
N. Jones
J. Selwood
A. Swallow
P. Dangerfield
M. Murphy
A. Swallow
N. Malceski
J. McVeigh
D. Martin
N. Dal Santo
'Your name' Lewis vs Pies. "Gee, could be in for a big game 'Den"
R. Sloane could go off too.
Maybe Danger's due as well.
A.Swallow's been excellent…
Tiger finals on the line-Dusty to step up
Murphy will bounce back from that nasty…
Roughy could outs…
Zorko scor.
Mcve…
Hi everyone, what are your thoughts on trading Stevie J for N Jones or Gibbs??? Or any other good POD for max $570k??? In 3 grand finals so this could be the winning trade… Thanks community..
Give some thought to Mundy & Goddard as well
What about Toby Greene?
Do you want a consistent 100+er, or a more risky, might just be the 1 to score 150+ this week type?
N Jones falls into the consistent for mine, and Gibbs the latter.
Goddard the latter as well.
Tis the final… I am going for consistent 100ers as my trades this week. I'd accept a loss this week when my guys who avg 100+ get their 100 or 110, and I am just beaten by someone who had better team.
And I'd kick myself if I took a risk on a possible 130, where player scores 75 and I lost by 10

Shuey at Metricon.
Rocky into sauce…
Afraid Murphy might still be feel the affects of his concussion, so with my last trade of the season should I trade him to Brad Crouch or Dion Prestia?
I’m a little worried Murphy might not come up. That would be painful. I go Crouch of those 2. Just based in opposition
Out of those 2 Prestia, but I would be looking at Liberatore or if you want a POD take Harley Bennell.
Went prestia, had Libba from day 1
Need help with my final spot on my team with kennedy being injured
106,900 in the bank
In 4 grand finals, so a huge week for me!
mcveigh swallow bartel simpson jaensch mitchell
pendles selwood priddis rockliff libba gray murphy kennedy
sandilands goldstein / currie
parker dangefield zorko d.martin s.martin franklin / rohan
cheers
Generic advice from me – your team looks pretty good overall, so don't reckon you need someone who swings from 150s 1 week to 50s the next. Pick a solid, consistent 100-110 scorer…
Barlow or Heppell may look tempting.
If possible I'd steer clear of anyone that looks 'kinda rushed back in'. Barlow might breakdown halfway through for instance.
Based on that – J Lewis seems a safe option. You have most of the top averaging players available, that don't fall into the above category.
Thoughts on Eddie Betts?
Home deck against the saints. Could be a premiership winning move. But I wouldn’t do it, if he doesn’t kick a bag it won’t be great score
If you need a late captain smoky to get you over the line. And if you have Nic Nat he’s the man. GC doesn’t have a ruckman & WC will probably be playing for finals. If you’ve got him think about that
Hi community, a terrific year of SC and all thanks to you. Peter H, your advice was year-changing, I traded Gazza out at the top of his price and added three premo's, beating my nemisis that round by a few points, and eventually rising from 10th to 3rd in my league by season's end.
I'm in the GF, only one trade left, and JPK, so any advice much appreciated. I can afford Goddard, Deledio or B Crouch. I am thinking the latter due to consistency (but lower ceiling), but also because M Crouch in the side for the first time, and its against the Saints, so hoping the two link up for a 100 touches between em!
Goddard easily. He has been smashing it lately. But do it quickly!!!
Thanks for the advice, looked at his SC scoring and its been so up and down even recently, every high score followed by a shocker, so brought in Deledio who belted out a 134, That plus my opponent having the C on Rocky and the VC on Pendles, I may be a chance!
that plus the deception plan that I had no trades to replace JPK, reckon he fell for the bluff and took his eyes off the prize
Who is going to score higher out of Jimmy Bartel or Nick Dal Santo? Need one of them on the bench as cover but I don't know which one to go!
I'd go Bartel, he will score 100+
If you need a big big score Nick Dal Santo would be the best option, he will either score 60 or 130
Depends on your match-up, if your the favorite select Bartel (as he won't lose it for you), but if your the outsider (Nick Dal Santo could win it for you).
I am n 3 super coach GF's and should win all 3, as none of my opponents have a full team, and I do (plus emergencies to cover late outs).
I am also coming 3rd in a big paying footy tipping competition (just 2 points behind the equal leaders). I need to know the best 2 likely upsets this weekend.
I am thinking Port Adelaide, but not sure about the 2nd punt. Thinking either Carlton to beat Essendon, or Gold Coast to beat West Coast.
What are people's thoughts. Either way, I am going for the outright win, not 2nd or 3rd.
definitely go with Port Adelaide over Fremantle.
Then i would go Richmond over Sydney. They have SO much to play for whereas Sydney have nothing. The intent will get them over the line.
Port and Carlton are the most likely upsets this round.
Can anyone explain how 10 disposals, 3 inside 50's and a goal in a qtr of football is worth only 24 points. Thought my vision to keep Billy Hartung was going to pay off!
He also had 6 marks and went at 100% efficiency.
Murphy out for Carlton
so good! My opponent has him and already exhausted his bench cover
Lewis, Gunston and Roughead thats why mate
Reply to Glorin
Have one last trade and plenty of $$$$ to spend
Robbie Gray
Or
Rory Sloane
Or someone else
& why
Robbie Gray could be tagged by Crowley, so i would go with Sloane
I apologise unreservedly to the community.
Last week I maxed out my arousal curve and showered you all in my excitement.
That was premature exaltation and the Wombats are now shriveled as spent leaving my Grand Final cohabitant to finish on their own.
I am in the GF and I have 3 x donuts, no Emergency cover, but only 1 trade available
I think I am a slight chance as opponent has no trades, a few on his team could be low scores (Currie, O'Brien) and I will need to rely on my Capt Rockliff to outscore his Jelwood.
Opponent has different Midfield of Sloane, Watson, Ebert. I need to try a point of difference – but who? I am thinking Priddis. Any thoughts ?
Bugga Buddy having a rest as well. Bye bye top 100 finish
Chin up Wombats. You’ve had an amazing season & a barnstorming finish! Knowing you you’ve traded him for a player that scores 170! Worlds sneakiest wombat
Nah, getting Buddy last week used my last trade.
Next year I reckon I'll start a 2-7-2-1 squad and add an actual strategy to it as well.
Rockliff or selwood to be captain???
rockliff is a late out!!!!!!!!!!! carnage!!!!!!!!!!
Serious!!!! FAAAAARRRKKKKK!!!!
If anyone wants to join my SC Finals league here is the code 276414.
Murphy, Rocky & Zorko with a donut already. Just nasty!
I got crispy creamed by the same three.
Add JPK & that’s 4. Opponent has 3 as well so it’s still a fair fight.
Can’t use the VC loophole. Slight intoxication saw a last minute VC to Selwood backfire. Can’t pull off tricks passed out. Who to for captain from Sauce Danger or Griffen. Fresh wombat tracks lead me to believe old wombats might have gotten into the misses again!
Before work yest, had VC on Lewis and C on Rocky. Decided to take lewis's 153, so put rocky on bench with E, C on acres, and took E off ZObrien so i could take Rockys score…
Get home from work late last night to the carnage of Rocky out, Zorko our, Murphy out, NDS and Hansen spudded and ZObrien tonned up, WTF……
Ive got 1608 with Swallow, Priddis, Danger, and Jacobs to play, One trade left which I cant use on Acres as I've got no coin left .gggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrr..
I those last 4 lads make their projected scores I could scrape 2200 which would be a bloody miracle…
Currently on 1710 with with 7 to go and I have already had 2 Dogsnuts in Murphy and JPK. On track for 2400+ and a GF win!
That will be a ripper score BC. Glad I’m not playing you. My opponent has selwood as captain. If
I’d matched that I’d win. Now it’s going down to the wire. C’mon sauce go large!
Last ditch effort take R Griffen as c. Holy get faarkd. I gave up so much to get him & he paid the table! And then some
