Round 9 Supercoach Scouting Report
Howdy folks, Barron Von Crow here and we’re now entering week 2 of the dreaded bye rounds.
Round 8 probably went as smoothly as we could have hoped for most with our remaining big ticket players such as Libba, Watson, JPK, Fyfe and Rockliff as scoring in the top 10 for the week, and now we get the fantastic news that with Round 8 out of the way we get our “Captain Saviour” Gary Ablett back out on the field, along with a host of high scoring Geelong and Collingwood players also. So let’s get moving onto our Round 9 Supercoach Scouting Report!
Also, remember to look out for the red and green Supercoach scores, RED = bad, GREEN = good which may help you out when it comes to picking your captains for the week

First up, the Top 10 scorers from Round 8 of Supercoach
1. Josh J. Kennedy – 183 Supercoach Points (10 points)
2. Tom Liberatore – 171 Supercoach Points (9 points)
3. Daniel Hannebery – 159 Supercoach Points (8 points)
4. Jobe Watson – 158 Supercoach Points (7 points)
5. Josh P. Kennedy / Bryce Gibbs – 153 Supercoach Points (6 points)
6. Patrick Ryder – 152 Supercoach Points (5 points)

8. Nathan Fyfe – 141 Supercoach Points (3 points)
9. Dom Tyson – 136 Supercoach Points (2 points)
10. Tom Rockliff / Chris Yarran – 133 Supercoach Points (1 point)
And our Overall Top 10 list now sits at
1. Gary Ablett – 41 points (6 appearances)
2. Tom Liberatore / Leigh Montagna – 21 points (3 appearances each)
3. Steve Johnson (4 appearances) / Travis Boak (2 appearances) – 19 points
4. Adam Treloar – 18 points (2 appearances)
5. Joel Selwood (3 appearances) / Jobe Watson (2 appearances) – 17 points
6. Shane Mumford – 15 points (2 appearances)
7. Marc Murphy – 14 points (2 appearances)
8. Mathhew Boyd – 13 points (2 appearances)
9. Steele Sidebottom – 12 points (3 appearances)
10. Daniel Hannebery – 11 points (2 appearances)
Gary Ablett still holds a nice lead, even with having Round 8 off. Tom Liberatore storms into equal second after a superb effort in Round 8, equalling with Leigh Montagna. Steve Johnson, Joel Selwood and Steele Sidebottom all had Round 8 off with the bye round, so didn’t get a chance to add to their tallies, but will do so this week. Daniel Hannebery now rounds out the top 10 with his 2nd appearance in the top 10 list boosting him above his Sydney teammate in Josh P. Kennedy who sits a tiny bit further down the list on 10 points.

Captain Pick(s):
Collingwood are probably Adelaide’s biggest “bogey” team out there ever since Jack Anthony kicked that winning goal in the 2009 finals “Right in front of me!” The Crows really had no answer for the Pendlebury/Swan duo last time and it’s hard not to see a situation where one of the Collingwood players gets off the chain and puts up a massive score. So if you’ve got a Pendles/Swan/Beams/Sidebum/Elliot in your side, then this would be the week to pick them as your VC. Dangerfield has been been completely terrible against the Pies, so I’d be skipping him this week, even though he’s always a chance to score big.

It looks hard to pick a winner in this one as there are more than a few red scores littered throughout the list here. JPK has a terrible average at Etihad, Hannebery was good last week, but hasn’t scored big against Essendon and Watson has been hit and miss against Sydney. I’d likely stay away from this game this week.

Another game that doesn’t set my heart aflutter with it’s scoring potential. Cotchin and Deledio are looking like the closest thing to a sure bet here, both have decent scores in recent times against Melbourne, although none that spring out as absolutely amazing. Would be VC only picks here, especially considering their scoring output so far this year.

Nicky Dal has hardly set a foot wrong in the white and blue, so if you have him then I’d be sticking a VC on him here, despite his previous struggles against Brisbane in the past. Rocky has 2 weeks of 130+ scores to his name, so we should probably consider riding that form line too.

Captain Pick(s):
Fremantle obviously do everything in their power to stop Selwood when they play Geelong, his 116 score in Rd 1 of 2012 is his highest ever score against Fremantle. Freo are only 1 of 2 teams that he averages less than 102 Supercoach Points against for his career (the other is St Kilda at 99.2), so the numbers are certainly against him this week. Still, he’s had 3 sub 100 scores up until this week + with the week off you’d think he’d be rearing to tear whoever he faces a new one.

Captain Pick(s):
Gary Ablett? He’s had 2 bad games in the past 3, but did score a score of 143 in their Round 2 clash in 2012 to at least bring his average up to 50% against the Saints. Of course if the trend continues he’ll back up his poor score of 90 with another belter. The Saints are the side Ablett has the lowest career average against at 118 and the only side he averages less than 120 against. Anyway, I don’t think you’d ever not pick Gary Ablett as your Captain if he’s fit and firing, so I don’t think you should look past him here.
BYES
BARRON VON CROW’S CAPTAIN SELECTION(S):
It may be back to “business as usual” for many Supercoachers with their Gary Ablett and next best Captain selection policy. And really, who could blame you if that’s how you go about it this week, because it’s exactly what I’ll be doing. I haven’t fully locked in my trades for this week at this stage, as I’m currently flipping and flopping on bringing a Pendles or J. Selwood into my side, but I’ll still look to go in with one of my Collingwood players, either Swan or Pendles if he’s brought in as my Vice Captain and Ablett with the big C. I still think there’s some good value in last weeks Captains such as Watson and JPK and I wouldn’t be totally against trying out someone like Nat Fyfe with my VC either.
Anyway, which guys will you be looking to use as your Captains this week? Let the community know in the comments below, or hit us on the Twitter @BarronVonCrow

Hey fellas just wondering which option is better
A) Higgins and Merrett > Prestia (via dpp) and Harvey
B) Higgins and Merrett > Petrie and Swan
Hi Tom,
A) has a more reliable scoring output in my opinion.
Great work yet again Barron!
Petrie would be a worry for me .. he may pull out one or 2 big scores but I reckon he'll be lucky to score 80 most weeks.
Pendles into Ablett for me this week.
Goddard worth getting?
Yeah i reckon he is and im bringing him in this round.
Even though he has the bye next round, he has a breakeven of 41 and at the price of $465k he will be expected to rise about $20k-$40k this round so you could get him after his bye if you can take the price rise.
For someone whos averaging 116 (excluding the game he got 11 in when he was injured) and who hasn't got under 100 this season, he is a bargain at $465k and with only 2.5% teams having him, he is considered a POD as well!!!
That’s exactly what I’ve been thinking will only cost 40k to upgrade t.mitchell
Finally! The trade I've waited all year for Daisy to Ablett. At last I can say pendles into gaz for captains. Yes!
Frame it
Selection news .. Jaensch is named to play for Adelaide
Where did you hear that Kenny?
Funnily enough Rooboy, I heard it on the Roo and Ditts show MMM Adelaide
That would be great news for those of us that hung tough with him :-)…..not so good for the faint-hearts that ditched him.
Now all I need is the big Mummy to return next week!
thoughts of these trades guys
Webster > J. Tippet
Dunstan > Watson
Pyke > Goldstein
Leaves me with 300k in the war chest so next week polec becomes pendles
Cheers
Not sold on Goldy mate. As a Roos fan I hope he has a better after the rest but I’m not sold SC wise just yet.
Hey community would live your thoughts in my trades this week:
Robertson> Acres
Suckling> Jimmy Bartell
Polec> Steve Johnson
Would love everybody’s thoughts
Cheers
Nothing wrong with those moves Bray
Do it bang, bang, bang.
Thoughts on laidler to Brodie smith?
My backline is swallow, mcveigh, bartel, enright, laidler, Langford, Langdon and Gardnier.
Or should I wait for hibberd or kade Simpson or any other ideas???
I had a look at Smith myself but got scared off a bit by his yo-yo scores. He had nothing in the middle, he's either premium or staining the underpant! Reckon the proven elite scorers will have more consistent output. For me, I'm holding Suckling this week and will trade Simpson in next week .. or maybe Burnie Hurnie.
More selection news from Adelaide is that the new boy Charlie Cameron will NOT be the sub this week
Another bit of selection news, Alex fasalo went to Adelaide and is named in Collingwoods side. Good news for people like me who kept him,
He is named emergency buddy
Whens the podcast this week?
Tonight.
Alex Fasolo named emergency. Is it time to trade him out?
I'm thinking the same thing. If he's named an emergency he might be sub affected, therefore his price won't go up or could even go down! Now might be the time…
if youve held him this long you may as well keep him until he returns
Who are the MIDS that people are looking to have on their bench for the rest of the season? I'm tossing up who I want to have between Acres, Hallahan, Crouch & Taylor
How many trades have people used?
I got 17 left at the start of this round, near a full premo team though
19 at the moment, but will use at least one tomorrow.
17. Will use one to turn Vince into Pendles, and another to downgrade Dunstan to Acres. Will likely burn 3 next week, and 2 in round 11. Will still be 4 players short of premo though. My run of injurues this year has been evil.
I have used that I'm allowed to use and will be full Premo except 1 ruck for round 13, with 6 trades left and 11 rounds to play. Backline injuries are killing me this year I've wasted 3 trades to replace Hodge, Mitchell & Jaensch
Can the trusted community please advise me on which of these 3 mids you'd pick in a perfect world?
J.Kennedy, Montagna, Watson, Goddard, Stevie J, Murphy, Swan, Cotchin, Sloane, Rockliff, Selwood, Ward
Swan, Rocky & JPK
Swan, Stevie J & Watson
Selwood,Kennedy,Montagna
Stevie J, J Kennedy, J Selwood
I agree with this one.
JPK, Stevie J and Selwood will average the most points from here on out
JPK, Rocky, Steve Johnson (I've heard that's his real name)
Swan Selwood JPK
stevie j slewood watson/montagna
Appreciate the communities opinion on my trades this week-
OUT – Aish, Robertson & Webster
IN – Acres, Docherty & Goddard
other players considered were Ziebell or D.Swallow instead of Goddard.
I like the trades though not super keen on the sideways Webster to Docherty. I would either downgrade to Tippett or upgrade Webster to a premo. Only one opinion though.
No to dochery
no to docherty, make 100k at best
Thanks all for being a sounding board.
Ended up going with-
Out – Aish, Robertson & Honeychurch
Moved – Langdon (Def to Mid)
In – Acres, Goddard & J.Tippett
Yes looks good Donavan. Obviously make sure Tippett is named this week and that Honeychurch isn't before proceeding.
If you have round 10 bye issues then get Goddard as his price is plain stupid but given his bye next week, Swallow might be the better option if you are already choc full of round 10 players.
***If you DONT have round 10 bye issues***
Not enough coffee 🙂
Round 10 is covered, I plan on getting Swallow next week. Goddard will go up around $20k this week, Swallow's price won't change much.
Great job Barron thanks! Can’t wait for these byes to be over can’t believe we even have them with an even number of teams in the comp but hey…
Thank god Jesus is back this week for the C lock I reckon Beams might be a sneaky pick for vc.Will need to bang out a 160 though otherwise gaz it is! Be interested to know what everyone’s trade situation is like, 3 this week will take me to 17. Is that going too hard, will have fwd and def full premium if things pan out.?
thoughts on trades this week:
Webster > Simpson
Aish > Watson
Crouch > Bartel (via langdon DPP)
After this would have 17 trades with a team that only needs four more premos to be full premo team.
If I did this i wouldn't have enough to get selwood next week for polec?

Shannon Hurn to burn the back half of the year
Can you do the captain loop using a player with the bye?
Cheers
yeah, the bye players get locked in after the last game starts
Sweet
Hey fellas, I was able to get some internet access so my question time will be tomorrow night at about 5:30pm CST just before the game
what are the chances of fasolo getting a game tomorrow, want to trade him out but he may play, any chance of him getting a run ??
He is named as an emergency so if he doesn't get a run this week I think he would have to get a run next week. If he doesn't make it into the team next week I'm going to trade him.
If you have 18 players this week then I'd HOLD.
hope this helps
cheers wolfey, and thoughts on who i should trade pyke out to? maybe charlie dixon?
Sorry for the late reply Pat. Looking at ruck options Charlie Dickson is a gamble which could pay off however he could "Burn" you. I like to stay away from the potential "Burn men". If you can spare the extra 17K I'd probably go for Mark Jamar, he is currently averaging 112 and is a steal for his price. The other person I'd look at trading in is maybe Billy Longer. He has a good job security with Hicky out for 6-8 weeks however he is only averaging 71 and at this stage of the season you shouldn't really bring in any mid pricers unless they're averaging 100+.
NOTE: Saints and Melbourne have the bye next round
Final assessment:
If you need a decent Ruckman that's cheap for his avereage Jamar's your man
If your desperate for cash then take Longer and use the cash on another Premo somewhere else.
The other thing is Pyke is only out for 1 more week and then he has the BYE to make sure he is fully fit to play round 11 however looking at his form in supercoach it doesn't look like a player to keep.
Goldy.
He has already had his bye and seems to be coming good
Zac smith likely to play this week. Forget about Dixon.
It might take smith a few weeks to get going and therefore drop in price, I am thinking of going HMac to smith in a few weeks
I'm using three trades this week
IN- Bartel, J.Selwood, Acres
OUT- S.Mitchell, J.Kelly, L.McDonald
Still have a bit of cash for future upgrades. Next week I'm thinking Dunstan to Watson. Dom Tyson to Sloane.
Thoughts?
Looking good with them mate. I reckon it’s tough to really nail who will be a top 10 mid this year this early hey
my trades this week look to be:
J Impey > Pendleburry (via dpp)
J Webster > Bartel
J Aish > B Acres
would like to hear some feed back
Cheers and thank you
Good trades
Like these moves, gaining 2 premo's and a cash generator.
Rolling the dice with McD to Bartel, Ellis to Acres & Wish to Goddard this week…. My itchy finger just can’t ignore the value in Goddard.
Aish that is not wish… I wouldn’t waste a wish during the bye rounds!
Solid tick on all those trades. If your team is relatively Rd10 bye friendly then Goddard is a very attractive trade in target this week assuming he plays.
Barron, love your work. I think you'll find JPK scored 153 last week, not 183 – and therefore Liber took out the 10 points.
sorry, JJK/JPK issue. apologies. Not used to seeing JJK up in this air!
I really need help community, I have been trading and reverse trading all week and have not been able to get the right combination of trades. What I want to do is get in Pendlebury, Selwood and K.Simpson over the next two weeks. I have $336,400 in the bank and 17 trades.
DEF: Swallow, McVeigh, Bartel. Enright, Suckling, Langdon (Cutler, Gregoriou)
MID: Ablett, Libba, Watson, Beams, Rockliff, N.Jones, Polec, Crouch (Taylor, Hallahan)
RUC: Sandi, Jacobs (King, Thurlow)
FWD: Danger, Parker, Zorko, Martin, Fasolo, JKH (Lloyd, Ambrose)
Can someone please help me in how to achieve these trades over the next two weeks? I was thinking Polec –> Pendles, Crouch –> Acres, Taylor –> Selwood, JKH –> Downgrade, Suckling –> Simpson. But that's 5 trades and I really don't want to be at 12 trades after 10 rounds
Thanks community
fasolo out taylor fwd acres in +205k
georgiou to tippett +61k
bank=702k approx
pendels & selwood have high BE's next rd approx
pendels 630k
selwood 530k
simpson 531k
next week
langdon to simpson -180k
polec to selwood -80k
crouch to pendels -320k
should be able to do it with spare $$$$!!!!
Instead of Langdon out I would get rid of suckling as Langdon still has a bit of cash to make but but also I wouldn’t do the georgiou to Tippett trade either it dosn’t generate enough cash to generate a trade and both have very shaky JS
This week
Fasolo out Taylor fwd acres in leaves you with 541k left
Suckling to Simpson -140k (yes I know both have bye but it helps doing the trade this week)
Then
Polec to selwood -85k
Crouch to pendles -330k
Taylor or JKH to C.Cameron+125k (of Adelaide a new player on debut tomorrow night)
Leaves you with 110k
Is Suckling to Birchall a good trade?
Go consistent premo's like Bartel, McVeigh or Hibberd
If down on cash then go Hanley
Top 2 mids out of
S.Johnson, Rockliff, Sloane, JPK, Libba?
JPK & Johnson my thoughts
Any thoughts on my trades this week??
Laidler > J Tippet
Aish > Watson
Polec > Pendles
Tippett is at best 50/50 to be named this week, so make sure you have a plan B ready to roll.
I have 19 named for this week, but only have around 14 next week unless O'rourke and Sheed get named. I also only have 17 trades left and was trying to work out which players i should get rid of. Do people think that sheed will get another game anytime soon, or should i bring in a midfielder on the bubble either this or next week? Players i want to get rid of in the next few weeks are Laidler, Webster, Dunstan, Hickey, JKH and sheed if he doesn't get named. I only have $7,400 in the bank, who should i be looking to get rid of?
Sheed if he does get another game is a vest probability most the time
I like the Goldy suggestion above. Bye bye hickey. Keep JKH and Dunstan til next week
You need cash, so unfotunately you have to start jumping on the few rookies which are around.
Dunstan has peaked, so him to Acres frees up some cash, even though it doesnt fit your byes structure (I have a similar problem). That will give you enough to trade Laidler or Webster into Hurn next week.
Your only other option this week is to turn Laidler into Tippett, but I am not sure that he will get named this week. The roos seem to use him as a specialist 3rd tall defender where required.
Next week, you can consider Sheed>Hartung, and depending on how he scores this week, Charlie Cameron in for JPK looks a possible downgrade, as does Fletcher-Roberts for the Dogs.
Take the opportunity to make some cash would be my suggestion. Sheed down to Acres is the obvious one. Do you have a swinger to help get another mid rookie for one of either Laidler or Webster? Hang on to Kennedy-Harris for a couple weeks and you can bring in the Adelaide rookie Cameron when he hits his bubble. Who are your other rucks? Hold Dunstan til his bye next week then see if Hartung is selected then .. WHOOSHKA .. lamb cutlets and cash in the sky rocket!
I don't have any swing players, Deickx, Sandilands and Currie are my other ruckmen. Only problem with acres is that he won't be playing next week which doesn't help with the lack of players i have available next week.
G''day community.
I have 22 available this week but worried by Merrett (Ess) and McDonald (NM) who have high b/e scores and are both due to drop money this week. Was going to swap Merrett for Fasolo but he is only named as an emergency and wanted to upgrade McDonald to Goddard or Bartel but don't have enough cash. Currently have $169,000 in the cap. I'm really confused. Any advice/suggestions greatly appreciated.
Do you have Ambrose?
Only your best 18 score this week and next so it doesn't matter 4 of your players stink it up or dont play. Dump merrett and Mcdonald for acres & Hartung (I assume you have the required dpp) then get another premo fwd midfielder or defender using polec or dunstan etc.
Should leave you heaps of cash for next week.
what do we think of these trades this week:
Webster > Tipett
Fasolo > Goddard (Taylor swing)
Pyke > Goldy
Hi Folks,
Pending Kolodjashnij, who may very well be an omission this week, I have 22 on field before trades. With a heavy round 10 lineup, I'm looking to offload a couple a guys including Robertson and Laidler, and bringing in the likes of Bartel and J. Selwood. This will leave me with about $16K. Is it worth trading Polec down to Acres and sitting him on the bench this week with an extra $320K in the bank?
Next weeks trades would include the likes of Tyson, and two of JKH, Z. Merrett, Ambrose, with the intention of bringing in Walker/Charlie Cameron, and maybe an Ablett or Johnson depending on the bank balance.
Thanks community, best of luck this week!
Well if you are fine for players this week you could bring in billy hartung who has the bye
I'd trade Polec to Acres this week and bank the cash. Will then allow you more trading flexibility next week by having the cash already available.
G'Day community,
I've got two trade scenarios in mind for this week:
A: Fasolo > Acres (via Zorko DDP), McDonald > Bartel & Webster > J. Tippett. Leaves me $356,600 for next week, but risks losing out on Fasolo's price jumping more.
B: Impey > Acres(via Zorko DDP), McDonald > Bartel & Webster > J. Tippett. Leaves me $173,100 for next week.
Bartel would bring me to 16 premos, with Langdon, Polec, Cutler, Flipper, JKH and Taylor to upgrade.
Thoughts?
Feel like I'm chasing my tail with this weeks trades.
Would appreciate the communities thoughts on this;
OUT – Suckling, Georgiou,Dunstan,
IN – Johnson, Docherty, Acres
Leaves me with $197,000 for next week
Hi Josh, I like the call on Docherty he reminds me a lot of Heath Scotland and I reckon he will become the equal of Scotland at his best before round 24. but I reckon you can hold off getting him until next week and get Bartell, Swallow or Corey this week instead, maybe downgrade george to rook tippett (on the bubble) or even a non-playing rookie dpp like hunt to generate the cash. The dpp option would enable you to cash in any mid/for/def lions next week to get Docherty.
Based on his history against Freo I reckon Stevie J will put a sub 100 this round and drop by 15k If you don't have pendle, Beams, danger and gaz, one of them could be a better call this week maybe even a flutter on sidebum he seems to go on a 120+ rampage over 6 or 7 rounds every year.
Acres is obviously a winner.
Lot of Nostradamus stuff in that
Hey community,
Who should I get out of swan and pendlebury this week
Pendles…. Easy! Come on mate….
Swan should avg close to pendles and pendles has a break even of 160. Also swan is 80 k cheaper
Hello just wanted to give you a quick heads up. The words in your post seem to
be running off the screen in Firefox. I’m not sure if this
is a formatting issue or something to do with web browser compatibility but I figured
I’d post to let you know. The layout look great though!
Hope you get the issue solved soon. Thanks
