AFL Draft 2012 Preview – will be a corker
Folks there is an old saying in Fantasy Footy that I’d like you to remember.
If you’re the smartest Supercoach or Dreamteamer in the room – you’re in the wrong bloody room.
Find that bloke who seems to always win the league, rank higher than you. Learn about his methods. How does he approach his Supercoach? What players does he seem to pick? Where does he get his info?
Along these lines I would like to provide the community with a tip that could really grease the wheel of your preseason campaign in terms of the rookies to look our for in 2013. The blokes from over at Contested Footy have slapped together a sensational guide of the young prospects on the table on draft day this Thursday. These are the smart blokes in the room on draft day folks make no bones about it:
Now while the contested footy lads will be all over AFL draft day like a rash you will understand that this is an extremely busy time for myself. I will be advising several clubs in a consultative capacity on the day. So I thought I’d provide a run down on a few of the top picks and then a few who will be cheap enough to consider in your Supercoach starting teams next season
#1 – Lachie Whitfield
Almost a dead set lock in as the first pick this year so will be heading off the GWS with old mate Sheeds. Lachie is a footballers footballer without a doubt – but is also a ripping athlete. I am fair dinkum shuddering at what GWS will be doing to this competition in 5 years time. This bloke is a freak.
Just to give you an idea of how he’s rated, well respected talent manager Kevin Sheehan (an eye for talent at least matching mine) reckons “He’s probably one of the best young players we’ve seen emerge in the last decade”.
Supercoach or Dreamteam wise he’ll of course come in with that big 1st draft pick premium so there will be better value elsewhere.
#10 – Joe Daniher
Smokin Joe will go to Essendon as a father son pick and could be an interesting one Supercoach and Dreamteam wise. At number 10 will not attract the hefty premium that he would otherwise have attracted being selected higher in the draft.
He is an athletic forward who might also ruck (at 201cm!) and I reckon he would have gone at between pick 2-4 if he wasn’t his fathers son.
“He could be one of the best players to ever go through the TAC Cup in the 21 years I’ve seen of it” reckons Ian Kyte from his old mob the Calder Cannons.
Will be included in a few forward and rucklines next year
Pick 27-32: Tim Broomhead
Must be seriously considered on marketability alone with this name.
May just sweep us all off our feet and get selected early. I don’t think we can brush him aside when we all sit down to pick our Supercoach and Dreamteam sides in 2013. There are some queries around his ability to effectively remove spiderwebs from eaves without leaving the webs pressed against the surface of the eaves. May be controversial if he refuses to remove his dustpan before commencement of play.
Champagne comedy from your old mate… Jock Reynolds.
Enjoy draft day folks… stick like glue to contested footy whose coverage of all things draft is second to none.
