Jock’s Locks for 2012 – #5 – Matthew Leuenberger

Published by Jock on

Supercoach legend Jock ReynoldsI can understand why this towering future champ of our magnificent game took a while to establish himself. I put it down to an identity crisis which has resulted in some insecurity.  You see his old man left homeland Switzerland in 1986 to open a French restaurant in Perth. Poor young Matty wouldn’t have known if he was Arthur or Martha in his younger years and no doubt he approached his first years in the AFL doe eyed and unsure of his place in the order of things.

Fast forward to round 23 2011. Matthew faces the twin towers of NicNat and Big Cox against the West Coast Eagles. Not only does he more than hold his own but he picks up a lazy 126 Supercoach points in the process. The rise of Matthew Leuenberger is nigh folks and I don’t want you – my mates – my followers and my Fantasy Footy Community to miss the boat. Resident mathematical guru Peter Higginbotham has fed me the stats which I’m sure you’ll find bloody interesting;

  • Hasn’t missed a game in the past 2 seasons
  • Is 24 years old. A spring Chook for a ruckman which tells me the upward curve is set to rise some more.
  • Averaged 58 in 2009, 68 in 2010, and 102 in 2011
  • Averaged 130 in the last 5 games of 2011. The Lions only won 1 of these, and opposition included Collingwood, Sydney and West Coast.
  • High score of 172 late in 2011. Sure, against the Suns but shows he will make a hell of a lot of hay when the opportunity arises
  • Reasonably priced at $554,2oo in Supercoach. Will be the 5th most expensive but in my opinion will rise to the top 2 in 2012.

I’ll be slotting the big Swiss/French/West Australian into my Supercoach and Dreamteam teams quick smart in 2012. Matt joins Brendon GoddardMatt Priddis, Scott Pendlebury and Bretty Deledio as the first 5 of my 10 must have players for the upcoming season.

Hope you’re all enjoying the site – be sure to tune into the podcast if you haven’t yet listened in folks 😉 and make sure you check out the Supercoach 2012 Premium Player Cheat Sheet

I don't disagree, but he won't be on my side. Im settled with mummy and cox

    Jock · 30/12/2011 at 05:24

Yeah thinkin bout Mummy as well mate – just hhis pricetag ($610K) and his tribunal record has me scratching the chin. Just reckon Cox is a chance to start his decline now as well

      Keaton · 30/12/2011 at 05:45

You've got some great points there. You might yet persuade my ruck selections

      Beno · 21/02/2012 at 03:34

Its the battle of the two burgers, Matty Leunenberger or benny 'big mac' mcevoy for me, tough to split them i rekon, love to have em both!

James · 30/12/2011 at 05:48

I am actually thinking about Ben McEvoy from StKilda and Mumford… but must say that Leuenberger is tempting me

    Jock · 30/12/2011 at 08:03

BigMac does look appetising.. bOOM BOOM

      Dale Woonton · 30/12/2011 at 12:45

Ha ha, very funny indeed jockster.

What about leunBURGER. Surely you can work that into a funny line somehow….

jayhess2000 · 31/12/2011 at 00:36

Yep I'll be all over him and Cox after the mids are sorted. Funny how no one has mentioned Aaron??

Mick · 13/01/2012 at 21:37

I am going Mummy and Maca too…reason beieng that they will be rucking solo…more game time = more points..Jacobs will be another who will be going solo…Sandi, Cox and Hamberger will be sharing

    Troy Anderson · 13/01/2012 at 21:43

Fair point, but Cox has shared with NicNat for a while while still racking it up

      Ron Burgundy · 04/03/2012 at 22:15

      Mummy's not solo. Seaby?

Ron Burgundy · 04/03/2012 at 22:17

Really like your thoughts on this one. Just a little worried about the impact that Longer will have on his scores. Thoughts?
